Abstract:
Buffaloes are integral to the Asiatic market as they are crucial for agricultural work and transportation and provide a significant source of dairy and meat, contributing to various industries, local economies, and cultural practices across the region. Indonesia is a mega biodiversity country abundant in livestock genetic resources, including indigenous, local, and introduced breeds that play a crucial role in agriculture and the livestock industry. These genetic resources offer the potential for selective breeding and improving the quality of livestock populations through well-designed breeding programs, ensuring sustainable livestock production for the future. The current study was performed using the “Publish or Perish” software, and the data obtained was analyzed using the CADIMA web tool. The Toraya buffalo population is the largest in the Tana Toraja and North Toraja regencies and is widely distributed within South Sulawesi Province, Indonesia. The population of Toraya buffalo in this region reached 43674 heads. Toraya buffaloes exhibit diverse body color characteristics, such as black, gray, white, and mixed. Moreover, Toraya buffaloes possess distinct quantitative traits that set them apart from other swamp buffalo breeds. Although there are limited studies on Toraya buffaloes, the potential for broader and more comprehensive studies offers opportunities to uncover new information on the characteristics, genetics, reproduction, health, and management of Toraya buffaloes. The development of Toraya buffalo farms also holds significant economic promise, as it can lead to increased agricultural productivity and improved livelihoods for local communities by enhancing the quality by implementing well-planned breeding programs and leveraging reproductive technology, and genetics-based selection, growth, and productivity can be produced. To increase the population and productivity of Toraya buffaloes, a well-structured breeding program integrating reproductive technology and selection based on quantitative and molecular genetics is essential. The development potential of Toraya buffalo is vast, not only due to its high cultural value but also its superior quantitative traits compared to common swamp buffalo, positioning it as a potential national meat provider. The present review article aimed to discuss the characteristics and development potential of Toraya buffaloes, along with the implementation of reproductive biotechnology and molecular genetics to enhance the population, productivity, and quality of Toraya buffaloes in Indonesia.

Abstract:
Abstract   This report describes an approach to measure positions and map proposed bicycle trails for Torsby Sports Center, and to produce a document with the address information of affected property owners.   Inventory and measurement of positions was carried out with an ordinary handheld GPS receiver. The map was produced using GIS (ArcMap) with property maps from the National Land Survey as background, from which the selected layers were exported. For some layers classes were defined into one class, in order to obtain an appropriate map design. All layers were given their own type of symbols. Property ownership data was singled out for concerned properties in the property map. Property designation was made in the program TekisWebb TefatTorsby and then imported into a property owner table. The symbol for bicycle trails in the map was obtained from the ArcMap symbol library.   It was found that the accuracy of the GPS receiver is high enough in relation to the map scale. The selection of properties gave desired results and was reported complete. The selection of the property owners was, however, not complete.  The bicycle trail symbols was considered to meet the requirements of being extra clearly visible on the map’s background information.   Measurement of positions can be improved if the setting is set to the highest positioning accuracy. The compiling of properties and property owners involved extensive manual handling work, and it would be possible to automate that process further. Improvement of bicycle trails visualization can be done by adding a larger scale map of the local area surrounding Torsby Sports Center and include in the map, or by increasing the map scale and format.

Abstract:
A major design challenge for re-entry capsules lies in the modelling of convective and radiative heat transfer to the surface of the vehicle. At certain points on superorbital re-entry trajectories, up to 40% of the total radiative heat flux is contributed by the vacuum ultra-violet (VUV) spectral range and it is in this spectral range that the largest uncertainties lie. The high level of uncertainty in the VUV is a result of a lack of published experimental data due to difficulties encountered in measuring radiation in the VUV, such as strong absorption by most optical materials and air. Additional complexities of the VUV spectral range include its strongly self-absorbing nature and spectral line broadening. The primary goal of this study was to obtain calibrated spectral measurements in the VUV that enable the investigation of physical processes occurring in the shock layer that influence the incident radiative heat flux. In particular, the issues to be investigated were the variation in spectral radiance observed across a shock layer compared to the spectral radiance measured through the surface, the effects of self-absorption on spectral line intensity and the broadening of spectral lines in the VUV as a function of depth of radiating flow field. The measurements made across and through the surface of a model provide the first set of calibrated experimental results for the validation of computational codes used to predict incident radiative heat flux. Measurements made with a varying depth of radiating flow field provide a unique set of experimental data for the validation of radiation transport models and broadening coefficients. This study also used computational simulations to investigate the accuracy of a flow field solver coupled with two reaction rate schemes and compared the spectra produced using Specair with experimentally measured values. To achieve these goals, an optical system was designed to measure the VUV radiative emission produced around a blunt two-dimensional model in a spatially resolved manner across the shock layer. Spatial resolution allowed for spectral measurements to be made in both the equilibrium and non-equilibrium parts of the shock layer. A second optical system was designed to obtain measurements of VUV radiation incident on the surface of the model. This system incorporated a window in the surface with a mirror housed within the model to deflect the radiation out of the test section and into the detection system. To effectively vary the depth of the radiating flow field, the length of a two-dimensional model was varied, changing the depth of the shock layer being observed. The X2 expansion tube was used to create the high enthalpy flows required to produce radiating shock layers. Two flow conditions were created for this study that represented flight equivalent velocities of 10.0 km/s and 12.2 km/s. The spectroscopy system utilized for this study consisted of an evacuated McPherson NOVA 225 spectrometer coupled to an Andor iStar VUV enhanced intensified charge coupled device. An evacuated light tube sealed with a magnesium fluoride window was required to extend the evacuated light path to the model and avoid any absorption by molecular oxygen. An in-situ calibration of the VUV spectroscopy system was conducted using a deuterium lamp located in the position of the radiating shock layer. The integrated incident spectral radiance measured through the surface of the model between 115 nm and 180 nm was 0.744 W/cm2 sr for the 10.0 km/s condition and 12.3 W/cm2sr for the faster 12.2km/s condition. Abstract:
This thesis is made on behalf of Kungälv Energi AB. The purpose of the thesis is to establish a network plan for the area M4 Torsby that can be used as a foundation for reconstruction and investments in the area. The network plan contains a geographical description that provides an overview of the area including ground conditions and nature reserves. It also procures condition monitoring of the power network to detect its strengths and weaknesses in normal and reserve operation. To detect if the network can handle future loads a simulated scenario has been made. M4 Torsby consists of five lines which supply 1949 customers. Calculations show that a specific part of line L403 and some transformers around the area are overloaded during normal operation. The area can be alternately supplied. Calculations on the simulated future show that the network can handle future loads in both normal and reserve operation if the overloaded part of L403 is upgraded.

Abstract:
DYT1 dystonia (DYT1) is a disabling inherited neurological disorder with juvenile onset. The genetic mutation in DYT1 leads to the deletion of a glutamic acid (E) residue in the protein torsinA. The function of torsinA and how the mutation leads to DYT1 is poorly understood. We hypothesize that how efficiently the disease-linked mutant protein is cleared may be critical for DYT1 pathogenesis. Therefore we explored mechanisms of torsinA catabolism, employing biochemical, cellular, and animal-based approaches. We asked if torsinA(wt) and torsinA(DE) are degraded preferentially through different catabolic mechanisms, specifically the ubiquitin proteasome pathway (UPP) and autophagy. We determined that torsinA(wt) is cleared by autophagy while torsinA(DE) is efficiently degraded by the UPP suggesting degradation processes can modulate torsinA(DE) levels. Proteins implicated in recognizing motifs on torsinA(DE) for targeting to the UPP represent candidate proteins that may modify DYT1 pathogenesis. We examined how removal of the hydrophobic domain and mutation of glycosylated asparagine residues on torsinA altered stability and catabolic mechanism. We found the glycosylation sites on torsinA are important for stability modulate its degradation through the UPP. F-box G-domain protein 1 (FBG1) has been implicated in degradation of glycosylated ER proteins. We hypothesized that FBG1 would promote torsinA degradation and demonstrated that FBG1 modulates levels of torsinA in a non-canonical manner through the UPP and autophagy. We examined if lack of FBG1 in a torsinA(DE) mouse model altered motor phenotypes. We saw no effect which suggests FBG1 does not alter DYT1 pathogenesis despite its promotion of torsinA(DE) degradation. In addition, we explored a potential mechanism for the previously described role of torsinA in modulating cytoplasmic protein aggregation. We hypothesized this endoplasmic reticulum (ER) resident protein would indirectly alter cytoplasmic protein aggregation through modulation of ER stress. We employed a poly-glutamine expanded repeat protein and pharmacological ER stressors to determine that torsinA does not alter poly-glutamine protein aggregation nor ER stress in a mammalian system. In summary, this thesis suggests proteins involved in the catabolism of torsinA(DE) may modify DYT1 pathogenesis and that torsinA and its DYT1-linked mutant are model proteins for investigating ER protein degradation by the UPP and autophagy.

Abstract:
Many key technologies, to overcome some crucial steps, are needed for space missions. One of them concerns the re-entry: when the vehicle enters the atmosphere layer, its high velocity relative to the ground will generate significant friction and an increase in pressure. The kinetic energy of the object will be converted into heat energy and heat the gas forming a shock wave. Temperatures depend on the initial velocity, the atmosphere composition and its pressure. The gas is ionized and become plasma, it will therefore transfer its heat to the body of the probe not only by convection but also by radiation. To protect itself, the vehicle has a heat shield that can withstand extreme phenomena encountered during the descent. Additional constraints will impose a particular geometry and a heavy shield. So the goal is to have the lightest possible and effective protections to allow the probe to maximize its payload. For this, one of the key parameters is to know the behavior of the plasma and radiation produced during re-entry into the atmosphere. This thesis is positioned in this area of study: experiments to create a re-entry plasma are intended to be observed by a spectrometer

Abstract:
The Torch Collector is a Magical Realist novel set in Sydney. It is a story of non conformity, history, hope. The story moves between three recognisable but not clearly identifiable spheres. A past, a present and the non identified other, which could be called the unreal, magical, other-worldly or third-dimensional The genderless protagonist collects torches which enable him/her to transgress the boundaries between the spheres of existence. S/he moves freely across filling the gaps in her/his identity created by her/his cross-cultural background. The novel examines life on the fringe of contemporary Australian society. The Torch Collector's position appears to be voluntary, defined by his/her relationship to the torches. This vital relationship prevents the protagonist from fully engaging in conventional life. It is also a story of Sydney. A city which hides its cross-cultural spirituality underneath a highly urban and technological facade.

Abstract:
Abstract In the last chapter, we examined the Bavli’s most detailed discussion of the relationship of the Written and Oral Torahs, understanding the sugya as asserting the fundamental equality of these two forms. But for those familiar with the Bavli’s method of exposition, this conclusion may not rest easily, for they will surely know that the Bavli, like other rabbinic documents before it (excluding the Mishnah and the Tosefta), constantly refers to Written Torah for support of rabbinic opinions. Why else, if not the recognized superior authority of Written Torah, would this exercise be so ubiquitous? Modern critics might respond that the practice of justifying rabbinic opinions by reference to the Written Torah is merely a rhetorical apologetic that supports the authority of rabbinic law on the basis of the recognized authority of Written law.

Abstract:
This chapter reviews the main points of the fourteen books of the Mishneh torah. It details why Maimonides ends the first book of the Mishneh torah, the Book of Knowledge, with Laws of Repentance, which emphasizes that the love of God depends upon the knowledge of God. It also looks at the two chapters that Maimonides used for metaphysical matters and another two chapters on physical matters, which made it possible for readers to approach the love of God. The chapter describes the Mishneh torah's messianic universalism is an outgrowth of Maimonides' understanding of the nature of humanity. It includes the knowledge/love of God, the tension between Abrahamic and Mosaic Torahs, and the connections to messianism as an emphasis on peace as an overarching goal for a universal utopia.

Abstract:
This chapter reviews the Rabbanite–Karaite debate, the fundamental question at the heart of which is: Did God reveal one Torah or two Torahs at Mount Sinai? Rabbanites argue that the written Torah is insufficient in itself to direct correct observance: it must have been supplemented by authoritative interpretations that were handed down by devoted Jews from generation to generation. The Karaites reply that God cannot be the source of a flawed revelation. Another central issue in the debate is one of historiography. It is a general rule of religious ideology that the older one's beliefs, the more authentic they are. Karaism must be understood as the original Judaism revealed at Mount Sinai. The correct question for Karaites, then, is not how Karaism arose, but how Rabbanism broke off from the one true Judaism. Thus, the historiographical battle between the two forms of Judaism is part and parcel of the intersectarian dispute.

Abstract:
Recent research on behind-armor blunt trauma (BABT) has focused on the personal protection offered by lightweight armor. A finite element analysis was performed to improve the biofidelity of the US Army Research Laboratory (ARL) human torso model to prepare for simulating blunt chest impacts and BABT. The overly stiff linear elastic material models for the torso were replaced with material characterizations drawn from current literature. FE torso biofidelity was determined by comparing peak force, force-compression, peak compression, and energy absorption data with cadaver responses to a 23.5 kg pendulum impacting at the sternum at 6.7 m/s. Nonlinear foam, viscous foam, soft rubbers, fibrous hyperelastic rubbers, and low moduli elastic material were considered as material models for the flesh, organs, and bones. Simulations modifying one tissue type revealed that the flesh characterization was most crucial for predicting compression and force, followed closely by the organs characterizations. Combining multiple tissue modifications allowed the FE torso to mimic the cadaveric torsos by reducing peak force and increasing chest compression and energy absorption. Limitations imposed by the Lagrangian finite element approach are discussed with potential workarounds described. Proposed future work is split between considering additional impact scenarios accounting for position and biomaterial variability.

Abstract:
Abstract With the goal to improve the plasma spraying technique a considerable number of plasma gun types using different physical principles have been developed in the past. In this paper for conventional DC discharge plasma torches widely used in industry, some aspects of operation as arc fluctuations and non-symmetric plasma jets are discussed. Different construction principles with single or multiple electrodes as well as with one-piece or cascaded nozzles are compared. Finally a new torch concept is presented.

Abstract:
The essential variable methodology that was developed for single torch welding can also be extended to dual torch GMAW welding. Dual torch welding has great commercial significance because of the potential it offers for higher productivity and lower construction costs as reported by Hammond [1]. But dual torch welding offers an extra layer of complexity because the thermal effect of the trailing torch has significant influence on the cooling behavior of the leading torch. In addition, the cooling behavior of the bead deposited by the trailing torch is expected to be slower than beads deposited with a single torch. This is the last in the series of topical reports that detail the research leading to the development of the optimized welding solutions for X100 line pipe steel.

Abstract:

Valencia Trujillo, Francis Liliana, and Juliana Isabel Carvajal Tapia. Universidad Nacional Abierta y a Distancia, September 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.22490/ecapma.6168.

Full text
