L’ultimo capitolo, infine, è dedicato all’ipotesi di Giacomo Torelli come allestitore.

Full textLn this work, we study the Hodge structure of even-dimensional quadric bundles X over the projective plane. We associate to X a surface S: the double cover of P² ramified over the discriminant curve C parametrising the singular fibers of X. We prove that the primitive cohomology of S is an extension of F₂ by the primitive cohomology of X; the morphisms involving in this extension are morphims of Hodge structures. We also calculate the extension class. This extension class gives a theta-characteristic of C. Ln another way, more geometrically, we associate another theta-characteristic of C, which determine X in many cases. Here appear two problems: is the discriminant curve generic? are the two theta-characteristic equal ? The answer is yes in two completely analogous cases: the cases of the quadric bundles obtained from intersection of three quadrics of even dimension and from the cubic hypersurface in P2m+3 containing a 2m-linear space. This allows us to applicate the generic Torelli theorem for the double-plane of Donagi and we conclude that the Torelli theorem is true for these two classes of varieties

Full textThis thesis deals with totally geodesic subvarieties of the moduli space A_g of principally polarized abelian varieties and their relation with the Torelli locus. This is the closure in A_g of the image of the moduli space M_g of smooth, complex algebraic curves of genus g via the Torelli map j: M_g-->A_g. The moduli space A_g is a quotient of the Siegel space, which is a Riemannian symmetric space. An algebraic subvariety of A_g is totally geodesic if it is the image, under the natural projection map, of some totally geodesic submanifold of the Siegel space. Geometric considerations lead to the expectation that j(M_g) should contain very few totally geodesic subvarieties of A_g. This expectation also agrees with the Coleman-Oort conjecture. The differential geometry of symmetric spaces is described through Lie theory. In particular, totally geodesic submanifolds can be characterized via Lie algebras. This motivates the discussion carried out in this thesis, in which we use some Lie-theoretic tools to investigate geometric aspects of the inclusion of j(M_g) in A_g. The main results presented are the following. In Chapter 2, we consider the pull-back of the Lie bracket operation on the tangent space of A_g via the Torelli map, and we characterize it in terms of the geometry of the curve. We use the Bergman kernel form associated with the curve. Also, we link the Bergman kernel form to the second fundamental form of the Torelli map. In Chapter 3, we determine which symmetric space uniformizes each of the known counterexamples to the Coleman-Oort conjecture via the computation of the associated Lie algebra decomposition. These known examples were obtained studying families of Galois coverings of curves. Chapter 4 focuses on these families for their own sake, and we describe a new topological construction of families of G-coverings of the line.

Full textLet K be an imaginary quadratic field in which the rational prime p splits in two factors, say p and p̄. To the pair (K,p), Katz and Yager were able to associate a p-adic L function with two variables. Coates and Greenberg formulated the so-called main conjecture asserting the equality of this p-adic L fuction with the characteristic power series of the unramified outside p Iwasawa module. In this thesis, we prove (for "half" of the diedral charcters) that this conjecture, specialised to the antyciclotomic variable is true. Our proof is rather heavy because of its extensive use of the theory of congruence module of Δ-adic ordinary forms built by H. Hida. However, it may be well suited for the generalisations to CM-fields

Full textWe prove here a Torelli theorem for some affine varieties U: the polarized mixed Hodge structure on H*(U) determines u. For example it is true for an affine cubic surface or an intersection of two quadrics. The study of the period map of the MHS gives some results on the deformations of the cone over U/U. Then we can obtain a geometric interpretation of the polarization of the MHS by the mean of the theory of roots systems and theta divisor

Full textThis essay is a monograph about the work of the humorist Aparício Torelly, nicknamed Barão de Itararé. The main idea was to report a set of analytical elements: historical, documental, methodological and theoretical, essentials to formulate future hypothesis. The essay was conceived in three different parts. The first one is dedicated to the antecedents: aspects of Brazilian History important to the theme; biographic and work briefing; searches, inventory and comments on the research sources and future unfolding. The second part is dedicated to the methodological questions and point to discussions about: Philosophy of Science and Epistemology; the contribution of the new history related to the structural aspects of the visual arts speech and, at last, the discussion on humour. The third part is dedicated to the question of creative and productive process in Graphic Arts, presentation of unpublished new data collected from the field research; and description and analytical comments about the structural speech elements of the studied work.

Full textThis thesis searches the character Baron of Itararé’s construction by journalist Apparício Torelly (1895-1971), or simply Apporelly, amid the parody to the great press that characterized his humorous weekly publication A Manha (1926-1959). The period selected for this thesis to developing understand the character's genesis, among the appearance of A Manha in May of 1926 in Rio de Janeiro and the journalist's prison by Getúlio Vargas government's repression in December of 1935, when he closes up a cycle of the publication. The Baron of Itararé became popular as a type of projection of Apporelly in the pages of the newspaper and, through this character, the journalist developed a fierce satire to the Brazilian elites. The study object, then, agglutinates these three perspectives, the man, his newspaper and the character that represents him, impossible to dissociate, around which grows the analysis. It is treated of a historical-documental research with exploratory and descriptive character, which tries to place this object in its time and space, not just considering the period of the proposed cutting, but also the intrinsic antecedents to the partner-cultural relationships of the society of this epoch. In the same sense, it tries to identify the paper of the press in this period, as well as the journalism practiced and the lines of the parodic humor intrinsic to Apparício Torelly's work. It is understood, in these aspects, the theoretical base to identify the relationship between the object and the great press of the time. These gathered presuppositions are confronted to the analysis of the corpus close to, formed by 20 matters selected along the character's path in the stipulated interval, being stepped on in the character's theory and in the narratology while polarizer tools in theoretical and methodological extents proposed. The research showed that, along these ten years, A Manha was really founded in a categorical parody to the great press of the time, appropriating most varied aspects of this to conform the bases of its satire. Equally, the character inserted in this extent is built as a representation of the hegemonic social sections of this period, whose participation in the main historical moments and approach with the press of the time, revealed the intrinsic relationships of power to these social agents' participation in the events that guided the ways of the country. In this sense, this character begins his career as owner of a great newspaper, our dear director, becoming the military that commands the Revolution of 1930, the marshal-admiral, for, then, to turn hero of a battle that didn't happen, the Baron of Itararé, extending his satirical parody to the most several representations of the national oligarchies. The Baron's satire, for its time, will still be more amplified with the subsequent decorations, which would elevate him to Duke, Grain-duke and Emperor. It is a lineal course, in which the characteristics progressively are going being added each other, in a hyperbolic construction of the same character. As a complement, it was inferred that this character metaphorically represented a fantasy that the man Apporelly dressed in the pages of A Manha, through which he was transfigured in a type of biggest buffoon of the Brazilian political scene.

The idea of approaching this subject was due to the concern with the treatment that the rural soil receives within the framework of the planning and the territorial development.
The need to insert our study in a concrete space has determined its process of elaboration to be related to planning works already done: the territory of the metropolitan area of Barcelona, other towns in the catalan territory (Torelló, Manlleu, Sabadell, etc.), and a region in the High Guadalquivir (Andalusia).
Among the objectives we aimed at with our research, two of them must be emphasized in this memory:
a) to propose a codified reading, in order to establish the rural processes, their structures and forms, from a viewpoint of the territory as a constructed object.
b) to verify and contrast the method applied in a sinchronical and diachronical way, expounding the agrarian models and structures.
To give an account of the leading hypothesis of the work, we based our analysis on the territorial constructions as they appear and are produced in the places abovementioned. Our methodology is, thus, eclectic and empirical at the same time, where the analytical technique we consider most appropiate is applied to each agrarian structure.

Full textThe aim of this work is to classify the actions of the Klein group G on a K3 surface X, where G≃(ℤ/2ℤ)² contains a non-symplectic involution which acts trivially on Neron-Severi lattice, as well as computing the number of points composing the fixed locus. This result is achieved through purely algebraic methods, due to Smith’s theory, which relates the cohomology of the fixed locus H*(Xᴳ, F₂) to the group cohomology H*(X, F₂).Firstly, we identify all possibilities for the cohomology of the G-module H²(X, F₂) (and therefore the cohomology of fixed locus Xᴳ), providing some partial results for the general case G≃(ℤ/pℤ)ⁿ.Thereafter, we study the extension of the cohomology lattice H²(X, ℤ) induced by the action of G and we prove a formula giving the number of fixed points composing Xᴳ from some numerical invariants of the extension.Namely the dimensions of discriminant groups of invariant lattices, but also a new numerical invariant, essential for the computation of the fixed locus, which we prove to be unrelated to other ones. Finally, via Torelli theorem, we find all possibilities for G acting on X and we provide some geometric examples -confirming our results- using elliptic fibrations

Full textWe study automorphisms of irreducible holomorphic symplectic manifolds of type K3^[n], i.e. manifolds which are deformation equivalent to the Hilbert scheme of n points on a K3 surface, for some n > 1. In the first part of the thesis we describe the automorphism group of the Hilbert scheme of n points on a generic projective K3 surface, i.e. a K3 surface whose Picard lattice is generated by a single ample line bundle. We show that, if it is not trivial, the automorphism group is generated by a non-symplectic involution, whose existence depends on some arithmetic conditions involving the number of points n and the polarization of the surface. We also determine necessary and sufficient conditions on the Picard lattice of the Hilbert scheme for the existence of the involution. In the second part of the thesis we study non-symplectic automorphisms of prime order on manifolds of type K3^[n]. We investigate the properties of the invariant lattice and its orthogonal complement inside the second cohomology lattice of the manifold, providing a classification of their isometry classes. We then approach the problem of constructing examples (or at least proving the existence) of manifolds of type K3^[n] with a non-symplectic automorphism inducing on cohomology each specific action in our classification. In the case of involutions, and of automorphisms of odd prime order for n=3,4, we are able to realize all possible cases. In order to do so, we present a new non-symplectic automorphism of order three on a ten-dimensional family of Lehn-Lehn-Sorger-van Straten eightfolds of type K3^[4]. Finally, for n < 6 we describe deformation families of large dimension of manifolds of type K3^[n] equipped with a non-symplectic involution

Full textThe purpose of this thesis is to study the automorphisms of right-angled Artin groups. Given a finite simplicial graph G, the right-angled Artin group GG associated to G is the group defined by the presentation whose generators are the vertices of G, and whose relators are commuta-tors of pairs of adjacent vertices. The first chapter is intended as a general introduction to the theory of right-angled Artin groups and their automor-phisms. In a second chapter, we prove that every subnormal subgroup ofp-power index in a right-angled Artin group is conjugacy p-separable. As an application, we prove that every right-angled Artin group is conjugacy separable in the class of torsion-free nilpotent groups. As another applica-tion, we prove that the outer automorphism group of a right-angled Artin group is virtually residually p-finite. We also prove that the Torelli group ofa right-angled Artin group is residually torsion-free nilpotent, hence residu-ally p-finite and bi-orderable. In a third chapter, we give a presentation of the subgroup Conj(GG) of Aut(GG) consisting of the automorphisms thats end each generator to a conjugate of itself

Full textThe first part of this thesis is the geometry of non-Abelian Hodge theory, especially the study of geometric properties of moduli spaces. The first main result of this part is the construction of a dynamical system on the moduli space of Higgs bundles, we show that fixed points of this dynamical system are exactly those fixed by the C*-action on the moduli space of Higgs bundles, that is, all C-VHS in the moduli space. At the same time, we study its first variation and asymptotic behaviour. The second main result of this part is the proof of a conjecture (weak form) by Simpson on the stratification of the moduli space of flat bundles, we prove that the oper stratum is the unique closed stratum of minimal dimension by studying the moduli space of holomorphic chains of given type. The third main result of this part is a generalization of Deligne’s construction of Hitchin twistor space in Riemann surface case, we construct holomorphic sections for this new twistor space, namely the de Rham sections. We calculate the normal bundles of these sections, and we found that de Rham sections in the Deligne–Hitchin twistor space also have wight 1 property, so they are ample rational curves. We also show the Torelli-type theorem for this new twistor space

Full textLn this work, we classify non-symplectic automorphisms of varieties deformation equivalent to 4-dimensional generalized Kummer varieties, having a prime order action on the Beauville-Bogomolov lattice. Firstly, we give the fixed loci of natural automorphisms of this kind. Thereafter, we develop tools on lattices, in order to apply them to our varieties. A lattice-theoritic study of 2-dimensional complex tori allows a better understanding of natural automorphisms of Kummer-type varieties. Finaly, we classify all the automorphisms described above on thos varieties. As an application of our results on lattices, we complete also the classification of prime order automorphisms on varieties deformation-equivalent to Hilbert schemes of 2 points on K3 surfaces, solving the case of order 5 which was still open

Full textThis thesis is an overview of the Brazilian graphic history from 1837 to 1931, seeing by comic graph representations, graphic design and historical mentalities. The main idea was start from a general plan to reach in the 1920s the four hands works of the humorist Aparício Torelly (Barão de Itararé) and the Paraguayan graphic artist Andrés Guevara. Passing by the more relevant artists of this period, the root inspiration is the chronology itself, were the subjects related to humor, design and mentality tremble and unfolding pertinent and interesting connections for the own theme. The work was conceived in three parts: The first one runs upon the knowledge subject, application subject, methodologies and the wellspring of informations; as well as talk briefly about the main authors Barão de Itararé & Guevara , reason of the strategy subject approach. The second part clear up the historical foregoings under the proposed look through an stamp of original wellsprings (images and authors) put against extracts of the more important Brazilian bibliography, sewed with comments that proposes new interpretations and new looks over the same themes and subjects, without judgements, but just showing that was the way the things took place. The third part is focused on 1920 decade, and is where I meet the target authors and apply for more details, making evident the moment of strong creation and experimentation in the Brazilian graphic design face to the complete change of paradigms in order of the introduction of modernist esthetics and the assimilation and great dissemination of burgess values in the social field.

Full textMy thesis work focuses on double EPW sextics, a family of hyperkähler manifolds which, in the general case, are equivalent by deformation to Hilbert's scheme of two points on a K3 surface. In particular I used the link that these manifolds have with Gushel-Mukai varieties, which are Fano varieties in a Grassmannian if their dimension is greater than two, K3 surfaces if their dimension is two.The first chapter contains some reminders of the theory of Pell's equations and lattices, which are fundamental for the study of hyperkähler manifolds. Then I recall the construction which associates a double covering to a sheaf on a normal variety. In the second chapter I discuss hyperkähler manifolds and describe their first properties; I also introduce the first case of hyperkähler manifold that has been studied, the K3 surfaces. This family of surfaces corresponds to the hyperkähler manifolds in dimension two.Furthermore, I briefly present some of the latest results in this field, in particular I define different module spaces of hyperkähler manifolds, and I describe the action of automorphism on the second cohomology group of a hyperkähler manifold. The tools introduced in the previous chapter do not provide a geometrical description of the action of automorphism on the manifold for the case of the Hilbert scheme of points on a general K3 surface. In the third chapter, I therefore introduce a geometrical description up to a certain deformation. This deformation takes into account the structure of Hilbert scheme. To do so, I introduce an isomorphism between a connected component of the module space of manifolds of type K3[n] with a polarization, and the module space of manifolds of the same type with an involution of which the rank of the invariant is one. This is a generalization of a result obtained by Boissière, An. Cattaneo, Markushevich and Sarti in dimension two. The first two parts of this chapter are a joint work with Alberto Cattaneo. In the fourth chapter, I define EPW sextics, using O'Grady's argument, which shows that a double covering of a EPW sextic in the general case is deformation equivalent to the Hilbert square of a K3 surface. Next, I present the Gushel-Mukai varieties, with emphasis on their connection with EPW sextics; this approach was introduced by O'Grady, continued by Iliev and Manivel and systematized by Kuznetsov and Debarre. In the fifth chapter, I use the tools introduced in the fourth chapter in the case where a K3 surface can be associated to a EPW sextic X. In this case I give explicit conditions on the Picard group of the surface for X to be a hyperkähler manifold. This allows to use Torelli's theorem for a K3 surface to demonstrate the existence of some automorphisms on X. I give some bounds on the structure of a subgroup of automorphisms of a sextic EPW under conditions of existence of a fixed point for the action of the group.Still in the case of the existence of a K3 surface associated with a EPW sextic X, I improve the bound obtained previously on the automorphisms of X, by giving an explicit link with the number of conics on the K3 surface. I show that the symplecticity of an automorphism on X depends on the symplecticity of a corresponding automorphism on the surface K3.The sixth chapter is a work in collaboration with Alberto Cattaneo. I study the group of birational automorphisms on Hilbert's scheme of points on a projective surface K3, in the generic case. This generalizes the result obtained in dimension two by Debarre and Macrì. Then I study the cases where there is a birational model where these automorphisms are regular. I describe in a geometrical way some involutions, whose existence has been proved before
