Abstract:
At the present time, the tourist destination offers a stimulating laboratory for the experimentation of theoretical models and good practices on the subjects of governance, knowledge management and sustainable competition. Growing interest in the study of this territorial context gains impetus from the new approaches and tools that local administrations are starting to introduce in the phases of implementation and control of local strategies. In this respect, the Tourist Destination Observatory (OTD) represents an important innovation, offering a nerve centre for the aggregation and networking of heterogeneous data scattered over the territory as well as a model for the implementation of permanent approaches to social dialogue as prerequisites for the creation of knowledge and for an aware, shared, competitive and responsible development of the destination. The OTD can act as an efficient agent of local change, facilitating the processes of governance, and as a tool of knowledge management for the valorisation of intellectual capital. It is consequently a crucial support for the strategic repositioning of mountain resorts, which can represent valid responses to the emerging new modes of interpreting the holiday.

Full text
Abstract:
This book is an indispensable guide to the methods used by nearly all major weather forecast centers in the United States, England, Japan, India, France, and Australia. Designed for senior-level undergraduates and first-year graduate students, the book provides an introduction to global spectral modeling. It begins with an introduction to elementary finite-difference methods and moves on towards the gradual description of sophisticated dynamical and physical models in spherical coordinates. Topics include computational aspects of the spectral transform method, the planetary boundary layer physics, the physics of precipitation processes in large-scale models, the radiative transfer including effects of diagnostic clouds and diurnal cycle, the surface energy balance over land and ocean, and the treatment of mountains. The discussion of model initialization includes the treatment of normal modes and physical processes, and the concluding chapter covers the spectral energetics as a diagnostic tool for model evaluation.

Pruss, Alexander R., and Joshua L. Rasmussen. From Modal Uniformity. Oxford University Press, 2018. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oso/9780198746898.003.0006.

Full text
Abstract:
This chapter gives a ‘modal uniformity’ tool for assessing claims about what is possible. This tool is based upon the general principle that differences in mere finite degree do not normally make a difference with respect to possibility or necessity. The tool is sharpened by the provision of some conditions for exceptions to the general principle. The way to use this sharpened tool to provide additional support for previous arguments for a necessary being is then shown. A critical assessment follows of whether one could use the tool to construct a ‘subtraction’ argument against the existence of a necessary being; and then there is an explanation of why the argument against a necessary being faces asymmetric challenges.

Abstract:
Chapter 8 summarizes the main findings in the following areas: the two fundamental types of business model innovation, the levers of business model innovation, business model transformation, and the role of management. The chapter also presents a series of dos and don’ts for business model innovation, compiled from extensive discussions with a panel of senior managers who took part in our research and who have considerable experience in business model innovation.

Orantin, Nicolas. Unitary integrals and related matrix models. Edited by Gernot Akemann, Jinho Baik, and Philippe Di Francesco. Oxford University Press, 2018. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oxfordhb/9780198744191.013.17.

Abstract:
This article examines the basic properties of unitary matrix integrals using three matrix models: the ordinary unitary model, the Brézin-Gross-Witten (BGW) model and the Harish-Chandra-Itzykson-Zuber (HCIZ) model. The tricky sides of the story are given special attention, such as the de Wit-’t Hooft anomaly in unitary integrals and the problem of correlators with Itzykson-Zuber measure. The method of character expansions is also emphasized as a technical tool. The article first provides an overview of the theory of the BGW model, taking into account the de Wit-’t Hooft anomaly and the M-theory of matrix models, before discussing the theory of the HCIZ integral. In particular, it describes the basics of character calculus, character expansion of the HCIZ integral, character expansion for the BGW model and Leutwyler-Smilga integral, and pair correlator in HCIZ theory.
