Anufriev, Valeriy, Yuliya Gudim, and Aytkali Kaminov. Sustainable development. Energy efficiency. Green economy. ru: INFRA-M Academic Publishing LLC., 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.12737/1226403.

Full text
Abstract:
The monograph examines the problems of sustainable development and energy efficiency using the scientific and methodological approach proposed by the authors for the development of regional fuel and energy programs based on the KhMAO, the Sverdlovsk region, and the oil and gas production enterprise JSC Yuganskneftegaz, and presents the results of the environmental and economic assessment. This approach allows us to evaluate and select the most effective investment project for the utilization of associated petroleum gas from the point of view of energy, environmental and climate security on comparable indicators (tons, rubles). The authors proposed to distinguish from more than 200 UN indicators four basic indicators: the change in the green area (country, region, city, household) for the year; the level of energy efficiency; the amount of pollutants released per year; the annual amount of greenhouse gas emissions. It is proposed to consider the possibility of using the" energy " ruble of S. A. Podolinsky (kW / h) as a possible world reserve currency. Taking into account the unique experience of the region's participation in various projects of sustainable development, energy-efficient and low-carbon economy, it is proposed to create a market for waste and greenhouse gas emissions on the basis of the trade exchange of the Sverdlovsk region as a pilot platform for the implementation of the green economy. The history of the term "green economy", the essence of this concept is considered; the results of the application of green economy in different countries are shown. The international experience of green solutions and technologies is analyzed, the psychological aspects of the transition to a green economy are studied. For all those interested in the environmental development of the economy.

Abstract:
Varieties of English with substrate tone languages are tone languages. Detailed descriptions of sentence-wide tone structures in Nigerian, Ghanaian, and Cantonese English show that British English words with initial stress have H-tone melodies, while other words have MH or LH melodies. These languages vary in the use of final intonational boundary tones and the extent to which phonological downstep on H-tones is triggered by non-overt (floating) low tones (Nigerian and Ghanaian English) or by overt tones only (Cantonese English). The analyses of Nigerian English and Cantonese English are supported by the results of production and perception experiments run on location with native speakers. While the structural differences deprive these languages of the many intonation contrasts that characterize British English, two structural contrasts that British English lacks are identified in the tonal varieties.

Fink, Robert, Melinda Latour, and Zachary Wallmark, eds. The Relentless Pursuit of Tone. Oxford University Press, 2018. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oso/9780199985227.001.0001.

Full text
Abstract:
The Relentless Pursuit of Tone: Timbre in Popular Music assembles a wide spectrum of contemporary perspectives on how sound functions in an equally wide array of popular music. With subjects ranging from the twang of country banjos and the sheen of hip-hop strings to the crunch of amplified guitars and the thump of subwoofers on the dance floor, this volume attempts to bridge the gap between timbre, the purely acoustic characteristics of sound waves, and tone, an emergent musical construct that straddles the borderline between the perceptual and the political. The book’s chapters engage with the entire history of popular music as recorded sound, from the 1930s to the present day, under four large categories. The chapters in Part I, “Genre,” ask how sonic signatures define musical identities and publics; Part II, “Voice,” considers the most naturalized musical instrument, the human voice, as racial and gendered signifier, as property or likeness, and as raw material for algorithmic perfection through software; Part III, “Instrument,” tells stories of the way some iconic pop music machines—guitars, strings, synthesizers—got (or lost) their distinctive sounds; and Part IV, “Production,” puts it all together, asking structural questions about what happens in a recording studio, what is produced (sonic cartoons, rockist authenticity, empty space?), and what it all might mean. The book includes a general theoretical introduction by the editors and an afterword by noted popular music scholar Simon Frith.

Full text
Abstract:
The introduction discusses the conceptual underpinnings of the book, focusing on the ideological values ascribed to tone in popular music. It begins with a discussion of the ways electric guitar tone is represented in hobbyist and professional magazines, and how it is understood by the amateur and professional musicians who seek to find “their” tone through various modes of production and amplification. Tone in popular music is best understood as a “quasi-object” in the sense defined by philosopher Bruno Latour, as a complex ongoing negotiation in a distributed network of things, ideas, and bodies. This sociological view gives way to the scientific discussion of timbre and the dialectical relationship between the two concepts, both of which will be discussed in the ensuing chapters. The introduction concludes with a discussion of the organization of the book and a summary of the chapters.

Tone-Pah-Hote, Jenny. Crafting an Indigenous Nation. University of North Carolina Press, 2019. http://dx.doi.org/10.5149/northcarolina/9781469643663.001.0001.

Full text
Abstract:
In this in-depth interdisciplinary study, Jenny Tone-Pah-Hote reveals how Kiowa people drew on the tribe's rich history of expressive culture to assert its identity at a time of profound challenge. Examining traditional forms such as beadwork, metalwork, painting, and dance, Tone-Pah-Hote argues that their creation and exchange were as significant to the expression of Indigenous identity and sovereignty as formal political engagement and policymaking. These cultural forms, she argues, were sites of contestation as well as affirmation, as Kiowa people used them to confront external pressures, express national identity, and wrestle with changing gender roles and representations. Combatting a tendency to view Indigenous cultural production primarily in terms of resistance to settler-colonialism, Tone-Pah-Hote expands existing work on Kiowa culture by focusing on acts of creation and material objects that mattered as much for the nation's internal and familial relationships as for relations with those outside the tribe. In the end, she finds that during a time of political struggle and cultural dislocation at the turn of the twentieth century, the community's performative and expressive acts had much to do with the persistence, survival, and adaptation of the Kiowa nation.

Abstract:
Humans have evolved an intricate system that maintains blood in a fluid state. This relies on an intact vascular endothelium modulating vascular tone and forming a barrier between blood components and reactive subendothelial components. It also involves the production of inhibitors of both blood coagulation and platelet aggregation. In addition, haemostatic systems are primed to convert blood from its fluid state to a solid state, to allow the formation of a haemostatic plug, following vessel injury, to stem the flow of blood from or within a blood vessel. This chapter reviews the physiology of haemostasis.

Abstract:
One of the primary endeavors of choral conductors is the facilitation of good choral tone, which is largely dependent upon the vocal technique of the individual singers. This chapter examines principles of historical vocal pedagogy, discussing their correlation with modern scientific research, and present suggestions for practical implementation of specific techniques in choral rehearsals. The chapter discusses four primary areas of vocal pedagogy in choral rehearsals: first, the significance of laryngeal position in choral singing; second, principles of resonance in singing and their impact on the choral sound; third, a discussion of breath support in choral singing; and fourth, principles of phonation and vocal production for singers in a choral setting. Each of these four discussions contain practical suggestions for the application of specific practices and exercises that will strengthen the vocal technique of choral singers.

Abstract:
Chapter 8 uses the multifaceted term “tones” to explain the expressive role of texts that were produced as part of a growing publication industry to record and circulate various sermons in prose and verse that reflected a master’s awakened state of mind beyond logical thinking. This section also explains the importance of nuanced ink tones for the creation of sparse, monochromatic calligraphy and painting that reveals the interior depths of enlightened engagement with all forms of human and natural existence. Advances in literary and visual arts greatly contributed to the success of maritime transitions and transfers. Salons located within and outside of temple compounds propagated the production of writings and drawings, and contributed to the formation of the tradition that at once affirmed and negated the importance of artistic pursuit in relation to the religious goal of attaining spiritual awakening.

Simmons, J. Aaron. Continental Philosophy of Religion in a Kenotic Tone. Oxford University Press, 2017. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oso/9780198738909.003.0010.

Full text
Abstract:
In this chapter, an account is offered of what renewal in continental philosophy of religion might involve. It is argued that a “kenotic tone” is needed. In particular, in order for continental philosophy to live, it must die to itself in the areas of confession, insularity, and arrogance. Such a kenotic tone should signal that continental philosophy of religion is not concerned about reinforcing its own significance, but instead is significant because it offers important resources for thinking philosophically—but also personally, hospitably, and humbly—about religion. This account of renewal in continental philosophy of religion, in turn, is likely to foster productive engagement both with analytic philosophers of religion and also with scholars in other fields working in the academic study of religion.

Abstract:
North Korea is often said to be unknown: a reclusive and secretive state. It behaves as if the whole country is a theater that projects itself through performance. Song, together with other music and dance production, forms the soundtrack to the theater of daily life, embedding messages that tell the official history, the exploits of leaders, and the socialist utopia yet-to-come. Songs form the foundation stones of revolutionary operas, of instrumental and orchestral tone poems, and are rearranged in countless versions for use by children in kindergartens, for 50,000 young people who dance annually in celebration of the Eternal President’s birthday, and for the up to 100,000 participants of mass performance spectacles such as the Arirang Festival. North Koreans are reminded daily on state-controlled television news how their songs are beamed around the world by satellite, and songs are today routinely uploaded to YouTube and Youku. This is the first book-length account of North Korean music and dance in any language other than Korean. It is based on fieldwork, interviews, and resources researched in private and public archives and libraries in North Korea, but also in South Korea, China, North America, and Europe. It explores revolutionary songs written in the 1940s and pop songs from the 2010s, exploring in a critical but informed way not just songs, but also developments of Korean musical instruments, the creation of revolutionary operas that embed the state’s ideology of juche (self-reliance), mass performance spectacles, dance and dance notation, and composers and compositions.
