Abstract:
Squeezed into the narrow confines of a parasitic Mumbai dwelling; gathered around a ceramic tea-set in an elevated tea-house; trapped in the transparent void of a tree; and nestled in a vertical tower of fur, books and timber the 1:1 – Architects Build Small Spaces exhibition offered a tactile and intimate encounter with the intense experiences and emotions evoked by a series of small architectural spaces. Installed throughout the Victoria and Albert Museum, the exhibition ran from 15 June – 30 August 2010.

Abstract:
Due to the increase in the world population day by day, the amount of food needed is also increasing day by day. Diseases that occur in plants reduce the amount and quality of the product obtained. In this study, a computer-aided model was developed to detect diseases in tea leaves. Because plant diseases can be difficult and misleading to detect with the naked eye by farmers or experts. It is very important to detect diseases in tea leaves using artificial intelligence methods. Three Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) architectures accepted in the literature were used as the basis for the classification of diseases in tea leaves. With these three CNN architectures, feature maps of the images in the data set were obtained. After combining the feature maps obtained in each architecture, they were classified in the Linear Discriminant classifier. In addition, the performance of the proposed model was compared with seven CNN architectures accepted in the literature. The performance of the models used in the study was evaluated using different performance measurement metrics. The obtained results showed that the proposed model can be used to classify diseases in tea leaves.

Abstract:
Abstract Objectives The TOP-HOLE (Towards OPtimal glycoHemOgLobin tEsting) project aimed to validate the HbA1c enzymatic method on the Abbott Alinity c platform and to implement the HbA1c testing process on the total laboratory automation (TLA) system of our institution. Methods Three different measuring systems were employed: Architect c4000 stand-alone (s-a), Alinity c s-a, and Alinity c TLA. Eight frozen whole blood samples, IFCC value-assigned, were used for checking trueness. A comparison study testing transferability of HbA1c results from Architect to Alinity was also performed. The alignment of Alinity TLA vs. s-a was verified and the measurement uncertainty (MU) estimated according to ISO 20914:2019. Turnaround time (TAT) and full time equivalent (FTE) were used as efficiency indicators. Results For HbA1c concentrations covering cut-offs adopted in clinical setting, the bias for both Architect and Alinity s-a was negligible. When compared with Architect, Alinity showed a mean positive bias of 0.54 mmol/mol, corresponding to a mean difference of 0.87%. A perfect alignment of Alinity TLA to the Alinity s-a was shown, and a MU of 1.58% was obtained, widely fulfilling the desirable 3.0% goal. After the full automation of HbA1c testing, 90% of results were released with a maximum TAT of 1 h, 0.30 FTE resource was also saved. Conclusions The traceability of Alinity HbA1c enzymatic assay to the IFCC reference system was correctly implemented. We successfully completed the integration of the HbA1c testing on our TLA system, without worsening the optimal analytical performance. The shift of HbA1c testing from s-a mode to TLA significantly decreased TAT.

Abstract:
The paper aims a comparison with respect to the dynamic mechanical properties of few hybrid polymer based composite architectures based on experimental data against micro-mechanical models based numerical predictions. The hybrid polymer based composites considered were particle-fiber combinations reinforced within an unsaturated polyester resin to provide different architectures. Variations in storage modulus (E’), loss modulus (E’’) and damping factor (tan δ) with temperature increase and different particle volume fraction were investigated. Data comparison reveals the herein composite architectures’ performances over the benchmark and enables further insight into the material development and characterization issues.

Abstract:
Aim of study: To predict genomic accuracy of binary traits considering different rates of disease incidence.Area of study: SimulationMaterial and methods: Two machine learning algorithms including Boosting and Random Forest (RF) as well as threshold BayesA (TBA) and genomic BLUP (GBLUP) were employed. The predictive ability methods were evaluated for different genomic architectures using imputed (i.e. 2.5K, 12.5K and 25K panels) and their original 50K genotypes. We evaluated the three strategies with different rates of disease incidence (including 16%, 50% and 84% threshold points) and their effects on genomic prediction accuracy.Main results: Genotype imputation performed poorly to estimate the predictive ability of GBLUP, RF, Boosting and TBA methods when using the low-density single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) chip in low linkage disequilibrium (LD) scenarios. The highest predictive ability, when the rate of disease incidence into the training set was 16%, belonged to GBLUP, RF, Boosting and TBA methods. Across different genomic architectures, the Boosting method performed better than TBA, GBLUP and RF methods for all scenarios and proportions of the marker sets imputed. Regarding the changes, the RF resulted in a further reduction compared to Boosting, TBA and GBLUP, especially when the applied data set contained 2.5K panels of the imputed genotypes.Research highlights: Generally, considering high sensitivity of methods to imputation errors, the application of imputed genotypes using RF method should be carefully evaluated.

Abstract:
This paper reviews the Digital Tea House, a workshop held at the University of Tokyo with the aim to build three pavilions for hosting tea ceremony. As first attempts on cultivating formal innovations resulting from digital design process applied to construction of tea houses, the works convey that parametric design can be a mechanism through which architects are able to produce new images of a tea house and renew its conceptual meanings, and that it can be a tool to retain architecture convergent with cultural values. The authors analyze issues addressed in the workshop that range from applications of computational design, interpretations of tradition, structural stability, to solutions for quick physical materialization within limited time and budget. This paper clarifies the following: First, that parametric processes are not contradictory to traditional cultural principles; and second, how traditional elements of the tea house were decoded and formally reinterpreted through parametric designs.

Abstract:
Abstract Large clinical laboratories often rely on multiple chemistry analyzers. However, when a new analyzer is introduced, the laboratory must establish whether the old and new methods are comparable and can be used interchangeably. In this study, we compared the newly introduced Atellica CH930 chemistry analyzer with the already established Architect ci4100 and Cobas 6000 c501 from our laboratory. Patient samples were randomly selected from daily routine testing and a total of 22 analytes were investigated. Total error (TEobs) between test (Atellica) and comparative (Architect and Cobas) methods was calculated at relevant medical decision levels (MDL). For demonstrative purposes, the assessment of method comparability was based on three different criteria: allowable total error (TEa) derived from biological variation (BV), CLIA proficiency testing criteria for acceptable analytical performance, and CLIA-calculated Sigma metrics. These sets of analytical performance specifications were also compared, and their strengths and limitations are discussed in this paper. Performance of Atellica CH930 against Architect ci4100 was acceptable or nearly acceptable at 82%, 95%, and 64% of the 22 investigated MDLs across 9 analytes, according to BV-TEa, CLIA-TEa, and CLIA-calculated Sigma metrics, respectively. Similarly, performance of Atellica CH930 against Cobas 6000 c501 was acceptable or nearly acceptable at 61%, 93%, and 63% of the 54 investigated MDLs across 22 analytes, according to BV-TEa, CLIATEa, and CLIA-calculated Sigma metrics, respectively. However, method comparability should not be evaluated by a “one size fits all” approach as some analytes require different criteria of acceptability, ideally based on medically allowable error and clinical outcome.

Abstract:
The current applications of the virtual elements of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and deep learning (DL) in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) are diverse. ML can predict the length of stay (LOS) and costs before primary TKA, the risk of transfusion after primary TKA, postoperative dissatisfaction after TKA, the size of TKA components, and poorest outcomes. The prediction of distinct results with ML models applying specific data is already possible; nevertheless, the prediction of more complex results is still imprecise. Remote patient monitoring systems offer the ability to more completely assess the individuals experiencing TKA in terms of mobility and rehabilitation compliance. DL can accurately identify the presence of TKA, distinguish between specific arthroplasty designs, and identify and classify knee osteoarthritis as accurately as an orthopedic surgeon. DL allows for the detection of prosthetic loosening from radiographs. Regarding the architectures associated with DL, artificial neural networks (ANNs) and convolutional neural networks (CNNs), ANNs can predict LOS, inpatient charges, and discharge disposition prior to primary TKA and CNNs allow for differentiation between different implant types with near-perfect accuracy.

Abstract:
In contemporary society marginalization, alienation of social groups is increasing. Among other things, it is related to changes in the phenomenon of social solidarity, which are influenced by the processes of individualization, diversification, globalization, segmentation. Architectural works of modern architects, that together with customers represent the attitudes of nowadays, often reflect the desire to dominate. While educating young architects it is important to provide them not only with technical and artistic skills, but also to make them understand how architecture can take part in the the actualization of harmonic social behaviour stereotypes, the psychological attitude to encourage the pursuit of social solidarity. It is therefore important to learn how architectural composition can ensure a harmonious social interaction. The related adequate experience is worth studying. It is particularly important to evaluate the works of different periods of our country’s famous architects. V. Landsbergis-Žemkalnis could be distinguished as one of such architects to whom responsibility to society was particularly significant. Analysis revealed that V. Landsbergis-Žemkalnis‘ works are characterized by predominance of an organic compositional type what means that the programming of social solidarity attitudes by architectural compositional measures is ensured. In particular, these properties are characteristic of V. Landsbergis-Žemkalnis‘ buildings realized in the heart of Kaunas city. These buildings are better harmonizing with adjacent buildings and the whole street space. Moving away from the center, in the buildings erected by V. Landsbergis-Žemkalnis design, the number of vertical elements increases, separate parts of a building have a more distinct height, the silhouette becomes more active, more dynamic. Typologically such a building could be assigned to the hierachical compositional type. In contrast to ’’buildings of the street”, ”of the city”, these buildings represent ’suburban” buildings, what claims to be a local compositional center. Altogether V. Landsbergis-Žemkalnis‘ works illiustrate his ability to ”read” the situation in an urban context and use properly selected compositional building parameters, especially properly chosen measures operating in a dense group of existing buildings where the solidarity phenomenon is of great importance.

Abstract:
One factor affecting the quality of tea is the selection of plant material that would be planted on the field. Clonal selection is a common way to produce tea with better quality. However, as a natural cross pollination species, tea often consists of various clones or progenies of cross-pollinated process. This commonly occurs on plantations owned by smallholder farmers. To produce a consistent quality tea, the clones or progenies need to be identified. Usually, human experts distinguish the plants from leaves by visual inspection on the physical attributes of the leaves, such as the textures, the bone structures, and the colors. It is very difficult for non-experts or common farmers to do such identifications. In this, we propose a deep learning-based identification of tea clones. We apply deep convolutional neural network (CNN) to identify 3 types of tea clones of Gambung series, a series of tea clones developed at Research Institute of Tea and Cinchona. Our study indicates that the performance of the CNN systems are affected by the depth of the convolutional layers. VGGNet, a popular CNN architectures with 16 layers, achieves better accuracy compared to AlexNet, a CNN with 6 layers.

Abstract:
At the end of 19th century, the financial powers of a famous Lithuanian family, the counts Tyszkiewicz, encouraged a major re-construction and development of their manors, and allowed creating (with the assistance of well-known European architects) unique landscape views in the towns of Lentvaris, Palanga, Traku Voke, and Uzutrakis. All of these architecture ensembles have the common heritage of great landscaped parks by a famous French landscape architect Edouard André (1840–1911) and his son René André (1867–1942). This article discusses all four parks, which are considered to be significant resources of recreation and culture tourism and important cultural and natural heritage. These residences of family Tysz- kiewicz were to be in places of natural beauty and landscape exceptional. Publications regarding parks in Lithuania created by E. and R. André are numerous. However, the authors of this overview examined these ensembles with the view of cultural and artistic development, and will discuss here the aspects and trends of the complex uses of these manors and parks. It is particularly interesting to consult the book of E. André General Treaty of the Composition of Parks and Gardens, published by Masson in 1879, in which E. André covered all aspects of the business, still receives attention from landscapers today as much as it outlines the new directions of the profession. Major works by landscaper intended to create natural and picturesque (pittoresque) effects, to used ripraps, flows of water, waterfalls, balustrades and areas of greenery as viewing points, to contrast the methods used. It is particularly interesting to consult the letters and logbooks of René André, and article about the Palanga Park at Revue horticole on 1906, which contain many allusions and remarks to different Lithuanian park’s construction works in 1898–1899. In 1898 young Belgian landscape architect Jules Buyssens (1872–1958) was called upon to direct the construction works in Palanga and other places. The reliable Boisard, responsible for the ripraps, rockworks in the different parks, accompanied him. Not all of the concepts of the creators have been successfully realized in these manors; some visions blurred in the events of the 20th century. But currently, the existing elements of these ensembles, the actualized projects, and research, collectively permit reconstruction of these ensembles, adapting them for today’s leisure and recreational purposes.

Abstract:
This essay examines the role of architecture fiction and ecstatic realism as strategies for architects working within a protracted period of economic collapse. It reviews the history of the concept of architecture fiction and explores Werner Herzog’s idea of ecstatic realism as a means of understanding what the possibilities are for the interaction of art and architecture. Through a series of examples, I explore the development of innovative ways of interpreting the world.
