Abstract:
The cultural logic of postmodernity is encrusted with artistic layers and forms of oral art in their new horizons of usage and in their neo-oralities of performance within the pressures of cultural change and continuity arising from contemporary existence. The discursive and performative limits of oral art forms are dismantled due to the surging interface with the new media, such that transitional models and cross-cultural versions of the same artistic product are created. The pressures of urbanization, the mixed bag of hybridization and globalization, postmodern social pressures and values, and the strides made by science and technology have created neo-oralities, new horizons, and fresh or hybrid versions with which to interrogate Tiv oral artistic products in this digital age, opening up endless vistas and possibilities for oral products. This essay examines the new horizons, versions, and neo-oralities as they create synergy and meanings in the various media of technology. Also highlighted are the dismantled boundaries of the discipline and the discursive limits of oral artistic forms within the developmental trajectory of disciplines, artists, societies, and countries. Finally, a theoretical construct is called for to match the new trends, along with an appeal for greater research attention to be paid to this increasingly important interface with the pressures of change as they help shape culture and art forms.

Abstract:
Abstract Perinatally HIV-infected children (PHIV), despite effective antiretroviral treatment (ART), present chronic immune activation and suboptimal memory B-cell response to vaccinations compared to healthy controls (HC). Here we aimed at identifying frequency and transcriptional profiles of H1N1-specific B-cells (H1N1-Sp) in PHIV differentially responding to Trivalent Influenza Vaccination (TIV) and HC. H1N1-Sp were FACS-sorted from PBMCs collected 21 days after TIV, and analysed by multiplexed RT-PCR (Fluidigm). Differentially induced genes after H1N1 in vitro stimulation were further assessed on sorted memory B cells. H1N1 response was measured by hemagglutination inhibition assay (HIA) and B-cell ELISpot. 10 out of 19 PHIV were non-responders (NR) while all HC (n=8) correctly responded to TIV (≥4 fold change HIA and >80 ELISpot/106PBMCs). Our results showed no differences in H1N1-Sp frequencies and absolute counts between the groups. H1N1-Sp of PHIV showed higher expression of genes related to apoptosis susceptibility (PPP1R13B (logFC=12.77, p=0.01) and immune activation (CD28 (logFC=10.64, p=0.02) compared to HC. Among PHIV, lower PIK3C2B (logFC=−6.67, p=0.02) expression was found in vaccine responders (R) vs NR. In addition, only R showed a reduction in PIK3C2B expression after in vitro H1N1 stimulation in resting memory B cells (CD19+IgD-CD27+CD21+) (FC=−2.6, p<0.05). In conclusion, a gene expression perturbation, underlying immune activation, persists in H1N1-Sp from PHIV despite ART. Also, a higher expression of PIK3C2B may lead to a lower H1N1 immunogenicity after TIV. These preliminary data may inform future vaccination-adjuvants aiming at modulating PIK3C2B in order to improve vaccination outcomes in PHIV.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Various studies have been conducted on object detection, tracking, and action recognition based on thermal images. However, errors occur during object detection, tracking, and action recognition when a moving object leaves the field of view (FOV) of a camera and part of the object becomes invisible. However, no studies have examined this issue so far. Therefore, this article proposes a method for widening the FOV of the current image by predicting images outside the FOV of the camera using the current image and previous sequential images. In the proposed method, the original one-channel thermal image is converted into a three-channel thermal image to perform image prediction using an image prediction generative adversarial network. When image prediction and object detection experiments were conducted using the marathon sub-dataset of the Boston University-thermal infrared video (BU-TIV) benchmark open dataset, we confirmed that the proposed method showed the higher accuracies of image prediction (structural similarity index measure (SSIM) of 0.9839) and object detection (F1 score (F1) of 0.882, accuracy (ACC) of 0.983, and intersection over union (IoU) of 0.791) than the state-of-the-art methods.

Abstract:
Oral artistic expressions, in their various categories like myths, legends, riddles, proverbs, folktales etc however, seem to be disappearing in the wake of urban, cross-cultural hybridism, industrial modes of production, and the encroachments of scientific and technological scales of reference. The closely-knit oral society of the group is gradually fading away, as learning has become less restricted to the authority of memory to transmit from elders to the young ones. There temporary seems to be a ‘dead end’ to oral arts and cultures. The vibrancy of the oral artistic expressions, however, has emerged and morphed into new patterns in the new media thereby creating verdant fields and platforms for interrogating the African oral art and making meaning in the contemporary computer-mediated society. The oral thing has gained a digital double (specify what this means) in its multi-mediated orality in the electronic studios as they help shape arts and culture in Africa. This paper examines the synergy of oral artistic productions and the new media in Tiv society by exploring the implications in the ‘co-habitation’, and the vistas and potentialities of this digital double. The paper posits that the digital double, as facilitated by Ashi Waves F.M Radio, Benue State, Nigeria, points to the future of the oral artistic product and its cultural reconstruction, as postcolonial societies continue to embrace technological innovations creating their own stories.

Abstract:
Abstract. Thermal image velocimetry (TIV) is a near-target remote sensing technique for estimating two-dimensional (2D) near-surface wind velocity based on spatio-temporal displacement of fluctuations in surface brightness temperature captured by an infrared camera. The addition of an automated parameterization and the combination of ensemble TIV results into one output made the method more suitable to changing meteorological conditions and less sensitive to noise stemming from the airborne sensor platform. Three field campaigns were carried out to evaluate the algorithm over turf, dry grass, and wheat stubble. The derived velocities were validated with independently acquired observations from fine-wire thermocouples and sonic anemometers. It was found that the TIV technique correctly derives atmospheric flow patterns close to the ground. Moreover, the modified method resolves wind speed statistics close to the surface at a higher resolution than the traditional measurement methods. Adaptive thermal image velocimetry (A-TIV) is capable of providing contactless spatial information about near-surface atmospheric motion and can help to be a useful tool in researching turbulent transport processes close to the ground.

Abstract:
Abstract Objectives To determine factors associated with interindividual variability in tenofovir diphosphate (TFV-DP) concentrations in dried blood spots (DBSs) among persons living with HIV (PLWH). Methods PLWH who were at least 18 years old and taking tenofovir disoproxil fumarate-containing ART were prospectively recruited and enrolled from a clinical cohort and followed longitudinally (up to three visits over 48 weeks). With log-transformed TFV-DP concentrations in DBSs as the outcome, mixed-model regression analyses were used to assess associations between self-reported 3 month ART adherence, race and other clinical covariates (gender, age, BMI, CD4+ T cell count, estimated glomerular filtration rate, haematocrit, duration on current ART and anchor drug class) on TFV-DP in DBSs. Results Five hundred and twenty-seven participants (1150 person-visits) were analysed. Adjusting for race and other clinical covariates, every 10% increase in self-reported 3 month ART adherence was associated with an average TFV-DP concentration increase in DBSs of 28% (95% CI: 24%–32%; P < 0.0001). In the same model, female participants had 20% (95% CI: 3%–40%; P = 0.02) higher TFV-DP concentrations in DBSs, compared with male participants, and every 1 kg/m2 increase in BMI was associated with a decrease in TFV-DP concentration in DBSs by 2% (95% CI: −3% to −1%; P < 0.0001). Conclusions Individual patient characteristics were predictive of TFV-DP concentration in DBSs in PLWH receiving tenofovir disoproxil fumarate-based ART. Future research to incorporate these predictors into the interpretation of this ART adherence biomarker, and to establish whether these associations extend to PLWH taking tenofovir alafenamide-containing ART, is needed.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT In vitro studies have shown that enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) strains are capable of invading cultured epithelial cells derived from the human ileum and colon. Two separate invasion loci (tia and tib) have previously been isolated from the classical ETEC strain H10407 . The tialocus has been shown to direct the synthesis of Tia, a 25-kDa outer membrane protein. Tia is sufficient to confer the adherence and invasion phenotypes on laboratory stains of E. coli, suggesting that this protein is an adhesin and invasin. Here we report the purification of Tia and characterize its biological activity. Tia was purified by electroelution of outer membrane proteins that had been separated by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Purified Tia was labeled with biotin and then shown to bind to HCT8 human ileocecal epithelial cells in a specific and saturable manner. Polyclonal anti-Tia antiserum blocked this binding. These results show that Tia acts as an adhesin. Polyclonal anti-Tia antiserum also inhibited invasion of recombinant E. coli bearingtia clones, indirectly suggesting that Tia may also act as an invasin. We predict Tia to contain eight transmembrane amphipathic β-sheets with four loops that are exposed on the surface of the bacterial cell. A peptide corresponding to 19 residues in one of the four predicted surface-exposed loops inhibits Tia-mediated epithelial cell invasion. Seeding HCT8 cells on wells coated with purified Tia reduced Tia-mediated epithelial cell invasion. Together, these results indicate that Tia is an invasin and adhesin that binds a specific receptor on HCT8 cells.

Abstract:
This paper presents the material characteristics and application of a hyperelastic pad used in an integrated cross-tie trackwork configuration, which is part of an advanced rapid transit (ART) system. The ART vehicle is powered by a linear induction motor (LIM); correspondingly, the steel cross-tie trackwork includes a LIM reaction rail as well as running rails to support the steel-wheeled vehicle. An elastomeric pad is placed under each end of the cross-tie to absorb the dynamic effects from the ART. The pad has been isolated from the integrated cross-tie system and tested to determine its material constants which are necessary for modeling of the cross-tie system. The pad is found to be nearly incompressible and demonstrates hyperelastic behaviour. The Mooney–Rivlin (three-term) model shows the best prediction of the pad behaviour among the five selected hyper-elasticity models and a simplified elastic foundation model also exhibits a reasonable engineering approximation. The contribution of variable pad stiffness values to the size of the required air gap between the LIM and the reaction rail, and to the fatigue life of welded connections in the cross-tie is studied.

Abstract:
Opening ParagraphIn the first part of this article I set myself two objectives, each of which took its cue from a generalization made about the political and social organization of the Tiv by their principal ethnographers, Laura and Paul Bohannan. I proposed to challenge the related views (1) that the political organization of the Tiv could adequately be described as a segmentary lineage organization and (2) that their organization was atypical of the area of middle-belt West Africa in which the Tiv live. Confining my attention to Tiv ethnogaphy, I argued in Part I that a persuasive case could be made for a more complex account of Tiv political processes which recognized the salience not only of descent but also of marriage, kinship and local competition for the achievement of personal prestige through manipulation of marriage strategies, mastery of the major akombo or cults and claims to the possession of legitimate tsav or supernatural power. Tiv society still retains remarkable features on this view of its political processes, but they are not those of complete atypicality. Instead, it becomes apparent that, while sharing many of its core institutions with neighbouring societies, Tiv culture combines them in a unique manner. The uniqueness of the combination becomes visible through the effects of Tiv social organization, the more important of which I would itemise as:1. The persistence of Tiv culture and identity in a region of generally fragmented populations.2. The capacity for expansion of Tiv society.3. The capacity of Tiv society to absorb so many circumstances conducive to the development of hierarchy yet to remain, by and large, acephelous.

Abstract:
Objectives The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of fusion art therapy on the reduction of tic symptoms and the improvement of self-expression and self-esteem in children with Tourette's disorder through a single case study. Methods In this study, Yale tic symptoms were measured for 5th grade girls in elementary school attending D Metropolitan City, and the child's tic symptom reduction and self-expression and self-esteem tests were conducted before and after comparison. In addition, cases of convergence art therapy programs for each session of children were analyzed and recorded. Results First, when examining the effect of convergence art therapy on the reduction of tic disorder in children with Tourette's disorder, a total of 26 points decreased from 54 points beforehand to 28 points afterward. Examining this by two subdomains, it was found that the motor tic decreased from 34 points to 20 points in advance, and the vocal tic decreased from 18 points to 10 points. Second, it was found that whether convergence art therapy has an effect on the improvement of self-expression of children with Tourette's disorder improved from 15 points beforehand to 27 points afterward. In addition, in the subdomain, it was found that the vocal expression improved from 14 points beforehand to 23 points afterward, and for non-verbal expression, it was found that more natural gestures were used, from 5 points beforehand to 13 points afterward. Third, the pre-average score of 74 points and the post-test average score of 112 points increased by a total of 38 points for the effect of convergence art therapy on the improvement of self-esteem in children with Tourette's disorder. In addition, it was found that overall self-esteem by sub-domain improved by 8 points, social self-esteem by 12 points, home self-esteem by 10 points, and school self-esteem by 9 points. Conclusions Through the results of the study, it was found that convergence art therapy has an effect on reducing tic symptoms and improving self-expression and self-esteem in children with Tourette's disorder. In order to reduce tics in children with Tourette's disorder, continuous attention is required at home and school, and attention and support are needed to continuously maintain convergence art therapy. Therefore, future research needs to expand the research subject, rather than a single case of a child with Tourette's disorder, and study the effect of convergence art therapy on the family by reducing the client's Tourette's disorder to study the self-expression and self-esteem of the family together. By doing so, we want to help family relationships as well.

Abstract:
Schizophrenia is a psychosocial disorder that affects behavior, feelings, strange delusions, and chaotic thinking patterns. Schizophrenia patients experience a decrease in life satisfaction and well-being related to physical, social, and psychological conditions in carrying out daily activities. Art therapy has the potential to be a way to minimize existing negative symptoms and overcome life stress. This study aims to determine the effect of tie-dye art therapy on the life satisfaction of schizophrenia patients at RSJD Dr. RM. Soedjarwadi Klaten. Research method: Quantitative research using a one-group pre-test-post- test pre-experimental design. The sampling technique uses purposive sampling. The research sample was 21 schizophrenia patients. Life satisfaction was measured using the Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS) instrument. Hypothesis testing uses the paired sample t-test. Research results: The sample was dominated by those aged 17-25 years (33.3%), men (61.9%), junior high school education (71.4%), and unmarried (42.9%). After the sample received 6 sessions of tie-dye art therapy treatment/intervention, the sample experienced an increase in the mean SWLS score. The life satisfaction hypothesis test showed a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05). This means that there is an influence of tie-dye art therapy on the life satisfaction of schizophrenia patients at RSJD Dr. RM. Soedjarwadi Klaten. In batik therapy, patients can express expressions that cannot be expressed directly, increasing happiness and increasing life satisfaction for schizophrenic patients in RSJ who are undergoing rehabilitation. Conclusion: Tie-dye art therapy influences the life satisfaction of schizophrenia patients at RSJD Dr. RM. Soedjarwadi Klaten.

Abstract:
Traditional printing and tie-dyeing are an important part of Chinese handicrafts. It consists of three main techniques: batik, tie-dye, and multi-layer dyeing. Among the traditional printing and dyeing techniques, tie-dyeing creates an ever-changing visual artistic effect due to the diversity of its production methods. In modern society with the unprecedented development of technology and information, people’s life rhythm has accelerated, and the opposite “slow fashion” has become popular. More and more people are focusing more on the traditional craft of tie-dyeing. In contemporary fiber art, raw materials have become the soul and foundation of fiber art. This is also the difference between modern fiber art and traditional textile art. Entering the new era, the demand for textiles by people of all countries is also increasing, new functional requirements are put forward for textiles, and functional textiles emerge as the times require. The creative display of nanofibers is a comprehensive grasp of the properties of the fibrous material. It is the creativity and expression generated under the premise of understanding the type, shape, craft, and expression of fiber. It fully reflects the characteristics of the material itself, and it is also the designer’s ideological expression of the texture and shape of the material. It is then materialized into a certain connotation by appropriate technical means. In this paper, manual tie-dyeing is applied to nanofiber materials, making full use of the advantages of modern nanomaterials to promote the development of fabric tie-dyeing technology. In the performance test of the transmittance of nanomaterials to ultraviolet rays, it can be found that the transmittance of nanomaterials through the tie-dyeing process is lower for optical fibers with shorter wavelengths. When the wavelength of ultraviolet light is 313 nm, the transmittance of ZnO to ultraviolet light is 0. When the ultraviolet wavelength is 435 nm, the transmittance of ZnO to ultraviolet light is 45%.

Abstract:
Background: Tenofovir diphosphate (TFV-DP) in dried blood spots (DBS) is a strong predictor of viral suppression in persons living with HIV (PLWH). Its association with antiretroviral therapy (ART) resistance remains unknown. Methods: Blood was collected in PLWH receiving TDF-containing ART enrolled in a 48-week study. Tenofovir diphosphate/emtricitabine triphosphate (FTC-TP) were quantified from the same sample as HIV viral load (VL) in PLWH who developed resistance within ≤12 months. Results: The study enrolled 807 participants, of whom 10 had new resistance-conferring mutations. Among these, median (interquartile range) TFV-DP and HIV VL were 956 (407-1510) fmol/punch and 9840 (513-68,200) copies/mL, respectively. Five had quantifiable FTC-TP in DBS. Based on previously published data, a TFV-DP concentration of 956 fmol/punch would have an adjusted odds of virologic suppression of 32.8 versus TFV-DP <350 fmol/punch, making viremia of ∼10,000 copies/mL an unexpected outcome. Conclusion: Moderately high TFV-DP in DBS (700-1249 fmol/punch) in PLWH with high viremia suggest that antiretroviral drug resistance might be present.

Abstract:
The article “Handing on – Bodily Experiences Across Time” investigates how body and time are significant elements in the sculptural practices of the Danish artist Kirsten Justesen (b. 1943). The article presents a methodical approach to Justesen through the embroidered body-map made by the Danish artist Gudrun Hasle (b. 1979). The body-map is a “handover” of Justesen’s body; scars, marks of life and the body as a tool in works of body-art. It sets a different focus than that of a linear and chronological structured storytelling: it becomes sensual and bodily in an aesthetic processing of political and feminist experiences. The article finds its theoretical grounds in a concept of feminism’s timing and queer temporalities, and articulates how knowledge production and the raising of a feminist consciousness can be handed over through a bodily approach. Questioning the thinking of “feminism” in waves and generations, the article discusses how both artists relate and articulate a storytelling about women’s and art history, situated from the common grounds of being “woman”, “artist” and “pregnant”, with all the privileges and challenges that Justesen and Hasle each have had. The main focus of the article lies in an analysis of Justesen’s work CIRCUMSTANCES (1969-) and how it can be mapped out; how time and body in space can be connected over and across time as a quality within CIRCUMSTANCES, as well as an issue which continually challenges the concept of the “work of art” as an closed entity. Justesen’s use of the body as a tool and sculptural material linked to the political circumstances of the 1970’s paved the way for a different viewpoint and representation of the female body. As Hasle builds on these bodily and gendered experiences in her own practice as an artist and in her exhibition THOSE BEFORE ME, she sets new grounds for the art historical narratives to be told from.

Abstract:
The field of translation is a battleground on which, according to Bourdieu, cultural reproducers compete over cultural capital synonymous with higher social status and greater power to control texts and attribute meaning to them. On the surface, the struggles are about defending ideas and satisfying tastes, but they are also about how to control cultural capital and how to eventually convert it into economic capital. Against this background, this article explores the issue of retranslation of classic texts, using Bourdieu’s sociological concepts to analyze why The Art of War is frequently chosen for retranslation, how a challenging translator qualifies himself as someone more capable than his predecessors of doing full justice to the classic text, and, more importantly, what strategies are used to compete against the most respected translators in so doing. The article concludes that retranslating classic texts is a social practice whereby individual translators are inclined to use as their common strategy all kinds of cultural capital (embodied, objectified, and institutionalized) to outmatch the competition not merely within textual practice but also well beyond it.

Abstract:
Abstract Audio description is increasingly used by museums to improve access to their collections by visually impaired visitors. However, research in this field is still very limited. This paper aims to report on a descriptive study of artwork audio description as a modality of intersemiotic translation from images into words. A corpus comprising audio descriptive guides from art museums in the United Kingdom and the United States was compiled and analyzed following a corpus-based methodology. Existing audio descriptions of art museum exhibits were shown to comply with existing guidelines regarding the type of visual information conveyed, the level of detail offered, and the point of view used. These results are discussed in relation to the communication context to contribute to the discussion of current practices and their implications for visually impaired people’s access to visual art.

Abstract:
Tyrosine kinase receptor TIE-1 plays a critical role in angiogenesis and blood-vessel stability. In recent years, increased TIE-1 expression has been observed in many types of cancers; however, the biological significance and underlying mechanisms remain unknown. Thus, in the present study, we investigated the tumor biological functions of TIE-1 in ovarian cancer. The treatment of SKOV3 ovarian-cancer cells with siRNA against TIE-1 decreased the expression of key molecules in the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway, such as p110α and phospho-Akt, suggesting that TIE-1 is related to the PI3K/Akt pathway. Furthermore, the knockdown of TIE-1 significantly decreased cell proliferation in high-PI3K-expressing cell lines (SKOV3, CAOV3) but not low-PI3K-expressing cell lines (TOV112D, A2780). These results suggested that inhibition of TIE-1 decreases cell growth in high-PI3K-expressing cells. Moreover, in low-PI3K-expressing TOV112D ovarian-cancer cells, TIE-1 overexpression induced PI3K upregulation and promoted a PI3K-mediated cell proliferative phenotype. Mechanistically, TIE-1 participates in cell growth and proliferation by regulating the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway. Taken together, our findings strongly implicate TIE-1 as a novel therapeutic target in high-PI3K-expressing ovarian-cancer cells.
