Abstract:
Timurid era is the era of Persian culture and literature efflorescence. Amirs Timuri’s attention to culture has provided base literature for breeding scholar. In Timurid period, a large number of poetry and literature people were commuting in the court of Timur. Eyewitness of two important literary biographies is as a biography of the poet Samarkandi and more importantly Amir Alishir Navai’s Tazkara Majale-Al Nafis. The importance of the second work is that the author had both Divan and Persian literature expertise. Checking presented poets from Navai in Majales Al Nafis is the most important objectives of the present study. The main question is that, which group had higher share in the categories of poets in Majales Al Nafis, and what was the reason? The results show that, poets whom Navai had referred to in his work, have not been outside the three groups, poets agreed with the government, or the opposition and exile, and the third group were also in average. The reason for this division is that, firstly, the desire of Timurid was to ordinary and popular poets, and secondly, selection and anthology of poets in Majales-Al Nafis book has a meaning from the author. This study is intended to explain the poets of the era in Navai’s work with statistical and comparative method.

Abstract:
Following the Mongol era and the instability of the llkhanis, Amo river areas and Transoxiana saw a favorable situation to turn into a great empire. Amir Timur Gorkani who had established himself as a person with great military intelligence in Transoxiana, gathered his loyal forces and with his resolution and valor founded a government that made many people from east to the west fear even by hearing his name. Timurid banners were designed with pictures of a lion and the sun that were associated with tyranny and light. This government unique characteristics had enabled it to stabilize its dominance over a great area after a short period of time. In order to recognize Timurian strong foundation, its governance must be studied. In the scope of research purposes, library methods and analyzing authentic sources of timurd authors have been used. Military arrangements based on Genghis Khan’s yasai and use of public fear for conquering different areas, an economical – governmental system compatible with the situation of the time, appointing competent and reliable people for governmental posts and integrating a Mongol and Islamic government in itself answered all governmental necessities. Of course, Timur was a Muslim himself but one of those Muslims who allotted most of his time for life and governance. Forced immigration of artesian to the government’s favored areas made Samarkand and Bukhara to be considered among the best cities of the world. In this work it has been tried to study Amir Timur’s governance for political, economic and military stability using authentic academic resources.

Abstract:
Persia in the post-Mongol era is an ambiguous concept. The area is riddled with different ethnicities, religions, and seemingly endless claims to power. The Timurid Empire is no exception to this trend. Temür rises to power in 1370 using Central Asian nomadic styles of ruling and quickly dominates this geographic region inhabited by a plethora of ethnicities and religions. He understands the volatility of maintaining a large, diverse empire and takes key steps in securing his “united” rule. The key political move that this paper examines is Temür's commissioning of art. The art endorsed by the Timurid government surrounds the illumination of manuscripts and the illustration of literature. The Timurids conveyed two main messages to those living under their empire. The first message targets the main ethnic groups: Iranians, Mongols and Turks, justifying Temür as their rightful leader. The second message is delivered to the ethnic minorities, instilling fear to prevent rebellions and ensure subjugation. This paper will demonstrate that the Timurids decided to present political messages through cultural media because they understood the how literature and art were imperative in shaping identity.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the study of the most valuable source at the culture and architecture of Persia and Central Asia during the reign of Timur (late 14th — early 15th centuries) — the diary of the Spanish ambassador to the court of Timur. At this stage in the development of researching on the Persian and Central Asian architecture of the Timurid period, along with the problem of “analysis” of monuments and artistic style, the problem of “synthesis” of image of these architecture is urgent. The authors of this article propose a methodology for restoring the general impression of this architecture, which can serve as a basis for the process of “synthesis”, based on the study of the contemporary written source of the early 15th century — the diary of the Spanish grandee Ruy Gonzalez de Clavijo, who was part of the Spanish embassy, sent by the Castilian king Enrice III to the court of Timur at 1403–1406. Being an educated man and receptive to the new, Clavijo was able to isolate the characteristic features of the worldview of a man of the East, primarily an oriental despot, and the associated features of the art of the East. He and his colleagues in the embassy drew attention to the cunning, treachery, ingenuity, secrecy of the eastern rulers. The Spaniards were struck by the luxury, power and wealth of Timur’s state, which at that time was at the zenith of glory. The Spaniards, accustomed to the stability of architectural images in their native Spain, were amazed at the variability of the artistic images of the East. They drew attention to the love of the representatives of the peoples of the East for free draperies, giving themselves to the will of the wind, in the temporary architecture and in festive women’s clothes, that by their nature were well consistent with the decoration of architectural buildings. The Spanish envoys revealed that subservient to the first and most faithful fresh impression, tenaciously grasping the main difference between the architecture of Timur’s state and contemporary European architecture. This difference consisted in the desire to create an image that is changing, diverse, fluid, mobile, not instantly solved and full of mystery, but at the same time striking the imagination with its luxury and wealth and according to the understanding of their masters, customers and spectators. The conclusion about the specifics of Timurid architecture, made on the basis of a study of the diary of the Spanish ambassador, is supported by the authors of the article turning to the analysis of written and pictorial sources created by representatives of the studied culture itself.

Abooali, Sareh. "Space, Gaze and Femineity: Representation of Women in Architectural Spaces in Persian Miniature Painting (Timurid to Safavid eras)." Thesis, 2021. https://hdl.handle.net/2440/134181.

Full text
Abstract:
Architecture can be compared with the veil (or hijab) in terms of its visual and spatial functions. While the veil may overtly conceal, it may also define the woman it clothes in the same way that architecture may simultaneously support and represent its function. Both can deny or direct vision, and mediate space. However, whilst the veil has often been invoked in critiques of the cultural construction of women, the agential role of architecture has largely been overlooked. Using architecture as a lens, this art-historical thesis examines the representation of female figures in Persian miniature paintings as a tactic to reveal and interpret the changing place and power of women in pre-modern Persian society and culture. Architectures of many descriptions, from mobile tents to monumental mosques and palaces, are among the most consistent and recognisable elements with which Persian miniature paintings are composed, and within which the female figures depicted are literally framed. Through a historical comparison of the architectural framing of the female figure in Persian miniature paintings, produced during the transformation of cultural traditions from the Turko-Mongol practices of the Timurid dynasty to the Irano-Islamic cultural norms and pratcices associated with the Safavid dynasty, the research examines how women were placed and defined in these spaces – sedentary and mobile, and public as well as private – to better understand the changes in social status and mobility that they were experiencing over this same period. Although previous scholars have recognised Persian miniature paintings as a potentially rich alternative source of primary historical evidence where written sources are lacking or silent, the conceptual distance and visual ambiguity of that medium relative to present day artistic practice and perceptual conventions have presented persistent obstacles to interpretation and understanding. Independently, both the representation of Women, and the representation of Architecture in Persian miniature paintings have been the focus of valuable but unconnected and differently oriented studies by previous scholars. What has not been studied so closely and methodically before is the spatial structure and arrangement of women in relation to the architecture in (and of) these images, and how a rigorous analysis of that relationship might enhance current understanding of women in the socio-historical contexts depicted in Persian miniature paintings. Methodological experimentation undertaken in this study has sought to enhance how the multifocal perspective characteristic of architectural elements and spaces depicted in Persian miniature paintings could be better understood. This has resulted in a significant extension and refinement of an analytical method suggested by previous scholars, but evidently never developed and applied so thoroughly before. The particular folding and pop-up technique developed here produces three-dimensional paper projections of Persian miniature paintings through which the spatial arrangement and structure of the architectural elements depicted can be decoded. Using this spatially expanded architecture as a lens and apparatus to view and to site the figures of women in these paintings more accurately, the study then examines the vision and visibility of these women and how this mediated their power within physical and social space. Historically and culturally specific theories of vision and the gaze are engaged in the analysis in two ways: first, with respect to specific ways of seeing reflected in the conventions of Persian miniature painting and its visual representation of the outer world; and, second, in terms of the more universal concepts and acts of seeing in Islamic society, culture and religion, and the way these define codes of behaviour concerning veiling and the spatial polarisation of the sexes. Through this combination of visual and spatial tactics, this research advances the study of the past by enhancing the analytical depth at which we can interpret and better understand historically and culturally distant visual materials, enabling sharper and even novel observations that challenge certain assumptions about the place(s) of women in Islamic societies, cultures, and art. The study indicates further avenues for the extension of such spatially focused visual inquiry in the Art Historical field of Islamic visual arts and miniature painting studies in particular, and in gender and women’s studies more generally.

Abstract:
Some of the world’s most exquisite medieval paintings, from late fifteenth-century Herat and the early Safavid workshops, illustrate well-known episodes of popular romances––like Leyla & Majnun––that give prominence to depictions of unrelated figures such as a milkmaid or a spinner at the scene of the hero Majnun’s death. This interdisciplinary study aims to uncover the significance of this enigmatic, century-long trend from its genesis at the Timurid court to its continued development into the Safavid era. The analysis of iconography in several luxury manuscript paintings within the context of contemporary cultural trends, especially the ubiquitous mystical and messianic movements in the post-Mongol Turco-Persian world, reveals the meaning of many of these obscure figures and scenes and links this extraordinary innovation in the iconography of Persian painting to one of the most significant events in the history of Islam: the takeover of Iran by the Safavids in 1501. The apparently inscrutable figures, which initially appeared in illustrations of didactic Sufi narrative poetry, allude to metaphors and verbal expressions of Sufi discourse going back to the twelfth century. These “emblematic” figure-types served to emphasize the moral lessons of the narrative subject of the illustrated text by deploying familiar tropes from an intertextual Sufi literary discourse conveyed through verses by poets like Rumi, Attar and Jami, and ended up complementing and expressing Safavid political power at its greatest extent: the conversion of Iran to Shiism.

Abstract:
The great steppe belt, stretching from Lake Baikal in Southern Siberia to the Himalayan mountains, from Manchuria to Eastern Europe and the Balkans, connects Europe and Asia transversely. The Turkic and Mongolian peoples, the inhabitants of this continuous wide belt defined as central Eurasia, established the largest empires in the ancient and medieval world history with their great military movements and migrations. Among these empires, the founding of the Genghis Empire is a unique event of its kind in world history. The countries of the vast Eurasian region, from the Far East to Central Asia and Eastern Europe, were united for the first time in their history under the rule of the same dynasty. After the XIII. century, the axis of world history was based on the relations and struggles of the four great branches that formed the empire for more than three centuries – the Yuan / Kublai, Ilkhanli, Golden Horde and Chagatai khanates - among themselves and with other states. Emir Timur, who entered the struggle for the revival of the empire in the field of the Chagatai Khanate, opened the door of a new era connecting this process to modern history. There is a need to consider how the perception of Genghis and his successors is reflected on the historiography and historical consciousness in identity construction in Turkey and the Turkic world.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Background: The availability of resources is important in running a program. The implementation of the Non-Specialist Referral Policy has experienced many obstacles due to the lack of resource availability. This study aims to determine the availability of resources for the implementation of the Non-Specialist Outpatient Referral Policy in the National Health Insurance Era at the Public health center in Ngawi Regency, East Java. Subjects and Method: This study was a descriptive qualitative study conducted at Public Health Center in 2017, A total of 31 sources was selected by mapping and purposive sampling. The data were collected by means of triangulation of sources and in-depth interviews, observation, secondary document study. The data were analyzed by reduction, presentation and verification. Result: Obstacles stems from the absence of a recruitment decree from the regent and no funding from Public health center to recruit under the BLUD scheme. Health equipment available is only 43% to 60% of the need. The main obstacle is the regent approves the high price of equipment and not all budget estimates. Good medicine, if certain conditions are less spent than capitation funds. Finance is sufficient because the sources of funds vary, from capitation, DAK, DAU, BK, BOK, etc. Conclusion: The availability of medicine and finance is sufficient, but human resources and equipment are still lacking. It requires commitment and policies from Ngawi District Government, public health center policies and public health center commitments to realize the BLUD scheme to overcome resource shortages.
