RESUMEN Planification y desarrollo lingüísticos en el Caribe: El Suriname multi-étnico Después de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, Suriname, como muchos otros territorios del Caribe, experimenté un movimiento nacionalista y cultural creciente cuyos partidarios abogaban por un mayor papel para el sranan, la lengua franca criolla surinamense, en la vida nacional. Sin embargo, los prejuicios históricos desfavorables y la estigmatización del sranan dificul-taron los esfuerzos de promover y eleva r el idioma. Al contrario del mayor parte del Caribe, Suriname es una nación étnicamente muy diversa. La asociación del sranan como la propiedad de los criollos, una minoría dentro del país, limitaron los éxitos del nacionalismo cultural en la promoción del idioma. También en contraste con el resto del Caribe, el sranan goza de un reconocimiento bastante difundido como una lengua autonoma del neer-landés, el idioma oficial. Este hecho ha facilitado la planificacion lingüística en favor del sranan. El nacionalismo cultural tuvo cierto éxito en elevar la position social del sranan dentro de la población general, pero fracasó en movilizar suficiente apoyo oficial sostenido por el idioma en la administration nacional y en las escuelas. Una política oficial de monolingüismo neerlandés siguió rumbo ininterrumpida y inalterada, produciendo una generation multi-étnica de jovenes cuya lengua materna es el neerlandés. El debate sobre la planificación lingüistica se enfoca actualmente en la estan-dardización lingüistica y en la adopción del neerlandés-surinamense, la variante neerlandesa local fuertemente influída por el sranan, como el idioma oficial de Suriname. RESUMO Lingvoplanado kaj evoluigo en Karibo: Multietna Surinamo Post la Dua Mondmilito, en Surinamo, same kiel en aliaj teritorioj en la kariba regiono, ekkreskis kulturnaciista movado, kies apogantoj pledis por pli granda rolo por Sranano, la surinama kreola interlingvo, en la nacia vivo. Tamen, la delonge ekzistantaj antaŭjuĝoj kaj anatemigo de Sranano malhel-pas klopodojn antaŭenigi la lingvon kaj plialtigi gian prestigon. Malkiel la plejparto de aliaj karibaj teritorioj, Surinamo rolas kiel hejmo al diversaj etnoj. La identigo de Sranano kiel kultura posedajo de la kreoloj limigis la sukceson de la kreola kultura naciismo en la antaŭenigo de la lingvo. Ankaŭ malkiel la plejparto de la kariba regiono, Sranano estas vaste konata en Surinamo kiel sendependa de la officiala lingvo, la nederlanda. Tiu fakto, tamen, faciligis lingvoplanadon favoran al Sranano. Abstract:
Granulometric, carbonate and glauconite analyses were performed on samples of the Kiel and Antwerpen members (Berchem Formation) in temporary exposures and boreholes in the area of the City of Antwerp. Since the upper part of the Antwerpen Member is only locally preserved from post-depositional erosion, this study focuses on the much more frequently sampled lower part of the Antwerpen Member. The granulometric results show that the Kiel Member and lower part of the Antwerpen Member are both dominated by the fine sand fraction, with an overall finer grain size for the lower Antwerpen Member compared to the Kiel Member. The Kiel Member is relatively enriched in the fine and medium sand fractions, whereas the lower Antwerpen Member is relatively enriched in the very fine sand to silt fraction. Both members show a similar, low clay content. Measurements of clay content are higher in boreholes (on average 3.9–5.2%) than in temporary exposures (less than 1%), which might be explained by the crushing of the glauconite into the clay fraction during drilling. In borehole samples, especially those analysed by sieving, the Antwerpen Member often shows a higher amount of coarse grains than the Kiel Member, which represent shell fragments present in the Antwerpen Member and nearly absent in the Kiel Member. Like the amounts of shells, also the measured carbonate content—measured outside the shell beds—is lower for the Kiel Member than for the lower Antwerpen Member (3% vs 4.2%). The average glauconite content—based on the >63 µm fraction—displays similar, strong fluctuations between 35% and 60% for both members. On top of these fluctuations, a general downward decrease in glauconite content is noticed in the Kiel Member.

Abstract. The contribution uses the example of the 1969 Congress of German Geographers in Kiel to illustrate how traditions are born and passed on in German-speaking geography. By means of hermeneutic source criticism, it investigates how the events of „Kiel 1969“ gave rise to a myth. It concludes that the congress's participants experienced „Kiel 1969“ as the site of an enormously dense social interaction within their science. Most importantly, participants' suggestive oral reports in the aftermath of the congress turned it into the „myth of Kiel“, which became an essential driving force of German-speaking geography's modernization.

Abstract:
AbstractWe first present a recently developed three-dimensional chemodynamic code for galaxy evolution from the Kiev–Kiel collaboration. It follows the evolution of all components of a galaxy, such as dark matter, stars, molecular clouds and diffuse interstellar matter. Dark matter and stars are treated as collisionless N-body systems. The interstellar matter is numerically described by a smoothed particle hydrodynamics approach for the diffuse (hot) gas and a sticky particle scheme for the (cool) molecular clouds. Physical processes, such as star formation, stellar death, or condensation and evaporation processes of clouds interacting with the ISM are described locally. An example application of the model to a star forming dwarf galaxy will be shown for comparison with other codes. Secondly, we will discuss new kinds of exotic chemodynamic processes, as they occur in dense gas–star systems in galactic nuclei, such as non-standard ‘drag’-force interactions, destructive and gas-producing stellar collisions. Their implementation in one-dimensional dynamic models of galactic nuclei is presented. Future prospects to generalise these to three dimensions are in progress and will be discussed.

Abstract:
The total survival of 203 patients with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) was analyzed according to the working formulation (WF) and "expanded" Kiel classifications. The original Kiel classification consisting of low grade (LG) and high grade (HG) forms corresponded well to the LG and HG forms of the WF. When an expanded Kiel containing an intermediate grade (IG) composed of the original LG diffuse group was devised, this gave a much better separation of survival of the three grades as compared with the WF where the survival of IG and HG forms were nonsignificantly different. The main reason for this difference was the inclusion of the so-called centroblastic diffuse form in the HG Kiel, but in the IG according to the WF. In a "modified" WF analysis where this histologic entity was placed in the HG subgroup, the three survival curves then gave excellent separation like the expanded Kiel classification. Since the centroblastic diffuse form (and its analogous forms according to other classifications) has a poor prognosis, it is important that it be so recognized and treated accordingly with aggressive therapy. We propose either our expanded Kiel or modified WF classification of the three grade forms as an excellent predictor of survival.

Abstract:

I december 2003 gick filmen Kill Bill upp på biograferna med ett våldsamt och blodigt innehåll. Reaktionerna blev starka, vilket kan bero på att Kill Bill är en actionfilm där kvinnorna har en annan roll än den lättklädda medhjälparen. Då kvinnorna står i fokus var filmen som gjord för en analysav hur just kvinnan gestaltas i filmens värld. Syftet med uppsatsen är att undersöka om de patriarkala strukturerna förändras när typiskt manliga roller intas av kvinnor. Analysen inriktar sig främst på filmen Kill Bill, men diskuterar också det sammanhang i vilket filmen skapats och lanserats det vill säga filmindustrin i Hollywood som knappast gjort sig känd för några jämställdhetssträvanden. In December 2003 the movie Kill Bill premiered.


The reactions to its violent and bloody plot were strong, perhaps because Kill Bill is a film where women play different roles than the usual "sexy assistant", thus also making it suitable for an analysis of how women are represented on screen. The purpose of this thesis is to examine whether the patriarchal structures do change when the typical male part is given to by women characters. The analysis is mainly concentrated on the film Kill Bill, but will also discuss the context in which it was made - the Film Industry in Hollywood which has hardly been known for any ambition to achieve gender equality.

Denna studie syftar till att synliggöra olika bedrägliga beteenden som riktar sig mot innovatörer. I studien diskuteras möjligheterna till att etablera en funktion som skyddar innovatörer mot en typ av övergrepp som blir allt vanligare. Hur skall subtil manschettbrottslighet begränsas när den är både riskfri och lönsam? En vägledande fråga i diskussionen har varit: Skall innovatörer ha samma skydd för sin upphovsrätt som andra fria yrkesutövare, eller ska de fortsätta få vara villebråd utan skydd av rättsväsendet? Resultatet bygger på dokumentanalyser och en kvalitativ studie om upphovsmän till patent, samt intervjuer med personer inom branschen innovationer och entreprenörskap. Resultat baseras bl a på den kvalitativa studien och beskrivs genom fakta om innovatörerna Dr. Håkan Lans och M.D. Johan Ullman, vilka båda fått sina fall uppmärksammade i massmedia. Resultatet av analysen visar att* Uppfinnare är en minoritet som saknar rättsskydd i Sverige* Likhet inför lagen gäller inte för innovatörer och upphovsmän* Det är nästintill undantagslöst den ekonomiskt starkaste som vinner patentstrider Ett par av slutsatserna är att risken för upptäckt styr omfattningen av subtil ekobrottslighet. När det är riskfritt att bedriva sådan verksamhet ökar antalet brott. Det finns metoder att begränsa organiserad ekonomisk brottslighet, bedrägerier och kränkningar. Slutdiskussionen ger förslag till hur man kan skydda den svagare parten och skapa förutsättningar för uppfinnare att verka, för en större industriell tillväxt och därmed fler nya arbetstillfällen i Europa.

Abstract:
The discussion regarding the second amendment and gun control in the United States has been a controversial and highly debated topic for many years. However, with the several school shootings taking place, the discussion about gun controls has been taken to a new level. The purpose of this essay is to give an overview of the debate and answer to the main question ”how is the relationship between freedom and rights expressed in the debate about strengthened gun control, in relation to positive and negative liberty, and over time?  In order to achieve the purpose, three different kinds of analyzes have been made. First, two pro-contra analyzes were made on two different occasions. Next, the arguments found was examined through two concepts of liberty: positive and negative liberty. Lastly, a comparison was made between the arguments from the two different occasions. The results show that there are three different core issues in the debate, and that positive liberty is dominating the pro-gun control side, while negative liberty and individual rights are dominating the contra-gun control side. The debate has not been going through a radical change. However, some arguments have grown stronger over the years.

Abstract:
Two studies were conducted to support the dual process model of moral decision making, which states that there are two pathways to moral decisions: one emotional and the other cognitive. Decisions made in personal dilemmas are driven by emotions and intuition, while decisions made in impersonal dilemmas are driven by cognitive factors. Intuitive, emotional reactions tend to lead to non-utilitarian decisions while deliberative reasoning tends to lead to utilitarian decisions. For the current studies, undergraduate students from the University of North Florida completed working memory tests, an empathy scale, and also responded to moral dilemma scenarios. In the second study, participants were asked to respond to the moral dilemma scenarios in the following conditions: baseline, working memory condition (counting task), cold water (cold pressor task), and warm water. In Study 1, participants in the high working memory group had slower reaction times while responding to self dilemmas. In Study 2, the empathy item “I feel other people’s joy” was the best predictor of participants’ utilitarian decisions. These results are framed in terms of the dual process model and possible directions for future research.

Abstract:
The main aim of this diploma thesis is to suggest improvements of the marketing and business strategy of Kiehl's, a luxury skincare brand within the L'Oréal portfolio, in order to strengthen the brand's position on the Czech market. The theoretical part defines what luxury is and what the specific features of luxury brands are. Following is the overview of the luxury and cosmetics markets, describing the current situation and the trends. The next part depicts the business model of Kiehl's, the marketing strategy and the marketing tools that were used for the launch of the brand. Based on the findings in this thesis, a series of recommendations is suggested to build the brand's awareness, recruit new customers to the brand and increase sales.

Abstract:
British Columbia is home to 34 different Indigenous languages, most of which are in danger of losing fluency due to the combined effects of introduced diseases and assimilationist Indian Residential Schools. The Haida language, or Xaad Kil (pronounced “haad kill”), is considered critically endangered with only 9 elderly fluent speakers left. Many Haida believe that revitalizing Xaad Kil is important for keeping their culture alive: they see Xaad Kil as a cultural keystone that keeps worldview, artistic expression, food gathering, dances, stories, and songs integrated together as a unified whole. Xaad Kil also helps assert Aboriginal land rights: identification of traditional place names demonstrates use and occupation of lands since time immemorial. Xaad Kil names of medicinal plants and foods also contain important environmental information. Indigenous communities are adopting a range of strategies to revitalize their languages, including: master-apprentice programs, early childhood immersion programs, and technological approaches such as audio databases, language apps, and social media projects like Haidawood. Learning Xaad Kil can be a challenge: there are limited resources and often language learners are overwhelmed with obstacles. Haidawood helps make Haida language learning fun by bringing Haida stories to life using the power of stop motion animation and embracing an “aesthetic of accessibility” that creates beautiful art out of readily available materials, including carved puppet faces and sets made from cardboard. Haidawood seeks to help revitalize the Haida language, facilitate inter-cultural understanding, and inspire other communities to preserve and share their own stories.

ALKOR cruise AL600 served as a marine geophysical field course for ‘Physics of the Earth System’ bachelor students at Kiel University. Beside taking an active role in planning and realization of the individual geophysical measurements, the students also performed some first processing and interpretation of the obtained data. This work had to be documented in form of a scientific presentation as well as writing of the respective chapter in this cruise report. For the following chapters, we (Sebastian Krastel, Jens Schneider von Deimling) decided to only slightly modify the text and figures provided by the students. This should emphasize the student’s achievements, and underline the overarching aim of the cruise to train the students in acquisition, processing, and documentation of marine geophysical data.

Research cruise AL579 is part of the bachelor course "Physics of the Earth System - Geophysics, Meteorology and Oceanography" at the University of Kiel. It is the field exercise for marine geophysics and hydroacoustics. The aim of the annually recurring cruise is to give students a practical insight into the acquisition, processing, documentation, and interpretation of marine geophysical data. AL579 took place from August 20th -28th 2022 with the main study areas in Eckernförde Bay and the Bay of Mecklenburg. Parts of the scientific crew changed during a stopover in Kiel on Wednesday, 24.8.2022. In Eckernförde Bay we mainly collected Multibeam Echosounder (MBES) and INNOMAR Subbottom Echosounder (SES) data calibrated by CTD measurements close to the pockmark field off Mittelgrund. On Wednesday, 24.8.2022 we tested a new Ocean Bottom Seismometer (OBS) prototype. In the Bay of Mecklenburg, the focus was on Blinkerhügel and the seafloor structures further west where an enigmatic stone structure was discovered in 2021. This area was surveyed with Sidescan Sonar, MBES, SES, and CTD measurements and several video transects with an underwater drone. We also collected two sets of multi-channel seismic data to investigate the deeper structures of the Western Baltic Sea and the Bay of Mecklenburg.

Abstract:
The ALKOR cruise AL547 represents a concluding milestone of the Helmholtz innovation project ARCHES (Autonomous Robotic Networks to Help Modern Societies). The aim was to implement a heterogeneous robotic sensing network to simultaneously monitor changes in the water column and at the seafloor. The network has been developed by a consortium of partners from AWI, DLR, GEOMAR and the University of Kiel. The participating sensing platforms allow for real-time data transfer and the entire network shall be able to autonomously respond to environmental changes in the ocean. The network comprised seven different mobile and stationary platforms. Tests were conducted at the Mittelgrund working area in the entrance of the Eckernförde Bay (western Baltic Sea). During 47 stations the various sensing platforms were deployed and recovered for maintenance. A total of 87853 messages were sent using hydro-acoustics, of which 71734 messages contained O 2 data, 15177 were status messages, 926 messages were commands to trigger a change of the measurement behavior of a platform and 16 messages represented broadcasts about the environmental status. We synoptically recorded short-term O 2 time series on the different platforms, which were placed along a depth gradient in the working area. As the Eckernförde Bay is known for sporadic fish kills by anoxia we hope to contribute to a better understanding of the O 2 dynamics in coastal areas. - (ALKOR-Berichte ; AL547)

During this teaching cruise, bachelor students of the Institute of Marine Ecosystem and Fishery Science (IMF) were supposed to get the opportunity to learn about the most commonly used scientific methods, gears and working procedures on board of a research vessel for fisheries science as well as biological oceanography. In order to achieve a great number of students participating a teaching cruise, this one has been split in half. Thus a change of 7 students has been realizable in Rønne, on the Danish island Bornholm. The scientific objective of the cruise was the investigation of distribution patterns of certain spawning fish species, such as cod, whiting, sprat, plaice, flounder and dab in the Kiel, Arkona and with special focus within the Bornholm Basin. In addition to fisheries, a comprehensive grid of plankton net stations was sampled in order to gain insights into the spatial distribution of fish eggs, planktivorous prey (larval to adult life stages) cod larvae and plankton distribution (most important for sprat) within the Bornholm Basin. Of special interest were picoplankton communities´ short term responses (on board) to temperature along the respective gradient in the Baltic Sea with an additional sampling scheme to later isolate Ostreococcus sp. and its associated viruses for future laboratory studies at the Institute for Marine Ecosystem and Fishery Science. Abstract:
The AL561 cruise was conducted in the framework of the project APOC (“Anthropogenic impacts on Particulate Organic Carbon cycling in the North Sea”). This collaborative project between GEOMAR, AWI, HEREON, UHH, and BUND is to understand how particulate organic carbon (POC) cycling contributes to carbon sequestration in the North Sea and how this ecosystem service is compromised and interlinked with global change and a range of human pressures include fisheries (pelagic fisheries, bottom trawling), resource extraction (sand mining), sediment management (dredging and disposal of dredged sediments) and eutrophication. The main aim of the sampling activity during AL561 cruise was to recover undisturbed sediment from high accumulation sites in the Skagerrak/Kattegat and to subsample sediment/porewater at high resolution in order to investigate sedimentation transport processes, origin of sediment/POC and mineralization processes over the last 100- 200 years. Moreover, the actual processes of sedimentation and POC degradation in the water column and benthic layer will be addressed by sampling with CTD and Lander devices. In total 9 hydroacoustic surveys (59 profiles), 4 Gravity Corer, 7 Multicorer, 3 Lander and 4 CTD stations were successfully conducted during the AL561 cruise. - (Alkor-Berichte ; AL561)

Abstract:
R/V Alkor Cruise AL543 was planned as a six-day cruise with a program of water column and sediment sampling in Kiel Bight and the western Baltic Sea. Due to restrictions related to the Covid-19 pandemic, the original plan had to be changed and the cruise was realized as six oneday cruises with sampling in Kiel Bight exclusively. The first day was dedicated to water column and sediment sampling for radionuclide analyses at Boknis Eck and Mittelgrund in Eckernförde Bay. On the remaining five days, water column, bottom water, sediment and pore water samples were collected at eleven stations covering different types of seafloor environment (grain size, redox conditions) in western Kiel Bight. The data and samples obtained on cruise AL543 will be used to investigate (i) the sedimentary cycling of bio-essential metals (e.g., nickel, zinc, and their isotopes) as a function of variable redox conditions, (ii) the impact of submarine groundwater discharge and diffusive benthic fluxes on the distribution of radium and radon as well as greenhouse gases (methane and nitrous oxide) in the water column, and (iii) to characterize and quantify the impact of coastal erosion on sedimentary iron, phosphorus and rare earth element cycling in Kiel Bight.

The objective of this cruise was to conduct the final and complete field test of the LIGHTHOUSE situational awareness system for remotely operated vehicles, developed in the HVF 0068 Project LIGHTHOUSE. This included three divesof the ROV PHOCAin the Norwegian Sognefjord, during which the optical and acoustic sensors were validated. Moreover, as part of the EU H2020 project iAtlantic (grant agreement 818123), we investigated the response of pelagic deep-sea fauna to warmingand suspended sediment (which will be introduced to pelagic ecosystems by deep-sea mining activities). To this end, we captured the jellyfish Periphylla periphyllaand conducted shipboard experiments.
