Abstract:
When Thomas Tallis died in 1585 he left his wife Joan his heir. Joan Tallis's will (12 June 1587) bequeathed ‘to Anthony Roper esquier one guilte bowl with the cover thereunto belonging in respect of his good favours showed to my late husband and me'—her first bequest, and the only one of hers or Thomas's to a person of rank. Who was Anthony Roper, what was the connection, and can it throw any light on the composer? The point does not seem to have been picked up hitherto in Tallis literature.

Abstract:
Interpreting the letters characterized as written by Alice Alington and Margaret Roper in 1534 has proved perplexing since their first publication (1557), when the editor wrote, “It is not certainly known” whether Thomas More or Roper wrote the letter to Alington. Did Roper, More, or both write it? This study looks at both letters from a variety of perspectives, pointing out many reasons that complicate reading them before focusing on the personal and political circumstances, the structural knot of wise/foolish, and the writing styles of father and daughter, including an analysis of Roper's known writing, characteristically empathic (rather than concerned with organization or structure). It agrees that More was the chief writer, but that Roper might well have written some, though not all, of her speeches, and that she was involved in their discussions and as More's personal representative. Finally, it suggests both letters constitute a mini-dialogue.

Abstract:
This paper investigates how Aphra Behn's The Rover and Thomas Middleton's A Chaste Maid in Cheapside complicate understandings of femininity and masculine dominance over female sexuality. The paper looks specifically at the "rake," and how he instigates questions about female identity and sexual assault. The paper also looks at the rake in regards to adulterous relationships. Finally, the paper analyzes the use of the female perspective in The Rover to highlight the importance of framing discussions about femininity and female sexuality outside of male discourse.

Robin, Fabre Anne-Sophie. "Contra Thomam : un aperçu de l’antithomisme à la fin du XIIIe siècle et au début du XIVe." Thesis, Paris 4, 2013. http://www.theses.fr/2013PA040101.

Abstract:
The purpose of this PhD is to examine the accuracy of the concept of « antithomism » when applied to late XIIIth and early XIV th intellectual history. I firstly adress the historical context, from 1274 to 1324, and the arguments involving the theaching of Aquinas in various intellectual domains. In doing so I underline the various debates that occur about how to understand Aquinas(work looking specifically at censorship, the controversies between Franciscans and Dominicans and first rules about the various readings of Aquinas’works. The second part goes into further depth about the work of two scholars of the late XIIIthe century, who have been frequently labelled « antithomists » in today’s historiography : Roger Marston, OFM, and Dietrich of Freiberg, OP. I intend to examine how they refuse Thomas’noetic, from both a doctrinal and textual point of view

In ASME 2016 International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition. American Society of Mechanical Engineers, 2016. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/imece2016-65807.

Abstract:
The acquirement of lunar soil samples is the foundation to analyze and know about the composition of lunar soil and the lunar geologic structure. Because of the restrictions of the sampling method, the size of driller, the drilling pressure and the driller’s output power, the traditional digging method and vertical drilling method can only acquire the samples from lunar surface to 3 meters deep. In order to acquire the deeper samples based on the existing technique methods, a new exploration concept in which a driller fixed on the rover takes a horizontal drilling and sampling at the cross section of a crater after cleaning the surface chaotic soil was proposed in this paper. When drilling horizontally, the maximum drilling pressure is limited by the low adhesive ability between wheels and soil. For the purpose of making sure enough drilling pressure, study was carried out in this paper to improve the wheel’s adhesive ability by modifying the wheel’s surface. A wheel with a new kind of micro convex structures was proved to be more adhesive and stable during horizontal drilling by comparing with the existing wheel structures, such as wheel with thorns or discontinuous rims. The structural parameters of the convex structures may have significant influences on the adhesive ability. In order to study the effects of the convex structure’s parameters on wheel’s adhesive ability, the motion process of wheels on sandy road was simulated by using a DEM software EDEM. According to the simulation results, when the structural parameters of the convex structures are: flat-end shape, length/diameter = 5 and distribution density = 81/mm2, the wheel’s adhesive ability is much better than the wheel with other parameters based on a criterion which is the ratio of the tangential force to the normal force in the tangential motion process. Besides, the friction coefficient of wheels with convex structures is about 5 times as much as the friction coefficient of normal wheels, which proves that it is a useful method to improve wheel’s adhesive ability by modifying wheel’s surface with the convex structures.
