Abstract:
This paper investigates the problems facing masters’ students with their thesis writing phases and completion. This research seeks to provide a smart solution that is beneficial, both to the advisor and student(s). Survey and interviews were conducted among masters’ students to determine the challenges facing masters students in the course of their thesis writing phases and completion process. Based on the results of the survey and interviews, a concept model for thesis supervision system (TSS) was developed Providing an automated supervision system might encourage students and ‎advisors to communicate in an efficient way resulting in more quality of thesis outcomes and ‎reducing the delay in thesis process. Moreover, the user interface mimics the TSS process in an interactive way that illustrates how the application would be depicted when designed.

Abstract:
This study which was a descriptive survey, was basically to find out the factors that affected the completion of the masters thesis at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Ghana. The primary purpose of the research was to identify factors that might be hindering masters degree students from completing their theses, thereby either delaying or forgoing the successful completion of the degree. The participants in this study were "Successful Thesis Graduates" (STGs), "All-But Thesis" students (ABTs) who were enrolled between the years 1989 and 1993 and lecturers who served as thesis supervisors within the same period. The five most significant factors identified as obstacles to completion of the thesis in order ofimportance were : (1) lack ofbooks and other relevant materials; (2) lack of financial resources; (3) students' lukewarm attitude or lack of seriousness; (4) supervisors' delay in vetting work submitted by students; (5) students' work demands or combining thesis work with other jobs.

Abstract:
Many universities and colleges in low-income and middle-income countries require a masters dissertation or thesis for as part of postgraduate training, and some colleges offer a 1-year to 2-year diploma of child health as a clinical qualification to enable skills in child health for generalists, or as part of the early phase of paediatric training. This paper describes the stages of doing a research project for such a masters or diploma, and describes in detail how to write a minor thesis. The paper is designed to provide a practical approach for junior researchers, and their supervisors. Colleges differ in their formal requirements of a minor thesis (word count, line spacing, referencing style), but this paper outlines the principles and practical issues rarely covered elsewhere.

Abstract:
It has been established that there are inter-chapter variations regarding metadiscourse use in masters’ thesis. This paper, therefore, investigates the differences and similarities in metadiscourse use between the Introduction and Literature Review (LR) chapters in Sociology masters’ thesis from an English-medium university. The Introduction and LR Chapters of ten theses constituted the corpus for this study. The metadiscursive devices were manually coded, drawing on the modified version of the Hyland’s (2005a) interpersonal model of metadiscourse. It was realized that there are both differences and similarities between the two chapters in terms of metadiscourse use. In the ranking, the interactive and interactional devices, transitions, and hedges respectively recorded the highest frequencies in the two chapters. Besides, there were significant variations across the two chapters in terms of both interactive and interactional subcategories. The findings have implications for the teaching of English for Research Purposes, and the theory of metadiscourse.

In her important work, Hasidism as Mysticism: Quietistic Elements in Eighteenth Century Hasidic Thought, the late Rivkah Schatz-Uffenheimer depicted early eighteenth-century Hasidism as a movement with pronounced ‘quietist tendencies’. In this paper I raise several difficulties with this thesis. These follow from social-activist features of early Hasidism as well as from a selection from the writings of leading early Hasidic masters. I conclude that a major stream of thought in early Hasidim was not quietist in tendency. Finally, I compare the intentions of the masters I cite to some non-quietist themes in Eastern mystical thought.

Abstract:
This paper investigates the influence of the examination stage of student theses on the completion time of graduate studies at Makerere University, Uganda. The assessment is based on the administrative data of 504 Masters degree students in the 2000 to 2008 enrollment cohorts at the School of Education, Makerere University. The total elapsed time from submission of a thesis for evaluation to a viva voce was adopted as a measure of the examination period. Additionally, the period from viva voce to submission of the final thesis was investigated. The analysis included frequency distribution, summary statistics, and a Pearson Chi-square test. A median examination period of 11 months (range, 155), in the results, is a lengthy one when compared to the two-year stipulated duration of Masters studies at the University. Subsequently, the fact that about six in every ten students (59.9%) submits a final thesis beyond a months period after a viva points to further delays in the review process of students reports. No significant variations in the submission period were observed by student characteristics. In sum, the findings underscore the need to strengthen administrative support systems, particularly aspects related to the review process of students reports, to ensure students timely completion of graduate programs.

Abstract:
A thesis is the most important write up in a researcher's life. Writing the research document in the form of a thesis is considered as the most challenging among the students. Keeping this view in mind, the present study was conducted to investigate the major challenges facing by the students of Masters of Education (M. Ed.) in English under Tribhuvan University (T.U.) while writing thesis. Fifteen students who have submitted the final draft of thesis in the Department of English Education of their respective campuses in partial fulfillment of M.Ed. in English and waiting for viva-voce were selected employing non-random purposive sampling procedure. The researcher used interview as a tool to collect the data which included open ended questions only. Interviews were audio recorded and they were transcribed, thematized and presented in narrative form. The findings were presented employing descriptive technique of qualitative data analysis. The findings of the study revealed that unsupportive behavior of the supervisors and difficulties of selecting the appropriate field or area of the study are major challenges while writing the thesis in English Education.

AbstractThe paper seeks to re-examine the thesis advanced by some eminent scholars that there was a well established tradition among the early Cheshtis to nominate one of their disciples as chief successor and pass on major part of their spiritual authority to him through the means of transferring the tabarrokāt to him that they had received from their masters. But the evidence available on the subject does not support the thesis. Similarly, there is no evidence that a central organisation with pan-Indian character or a well integrated system presided over by the chief successor, ever existed during the early history of the order (selsela).

Abstract:
IntroductionResearch forms the backbone of rapidly evolving world of medical sciences. In the existing medical curriculum, every student pursuing MD/MS Degree has to conduct a research study and submit a write up in the form of thesis as an essential requirement to earn the degree of Masters of Medicine/Surgery. There is thus a need to identify perceptions, attitudes, motivational factors and barriers among these postgraduate studentsin carrying out their thesis work in medical colleges.Materials and MethodsThis was cross sectional study, conducted in a Medical College of Delhi, in February 2017 among 247 MD/MS post-graduate students. Self-administered questionnaire was used to assess perceptions, attitudes, motivating factors and barriers towards doing thesis work.ResultsAlmost 70% postgraduate were motivated towards doing their thesis work but still, 62.8% perceived that thesis should be made optional. Major motivating factors included support from the supervisors, satisfaction towards career aspiration and advancement in the current field. Major barriers included unavailability of samples, difficulty in following up patients, lack of internet access in the department and lack of time.ConclusionEven with knowledge regarding the importance of research in the field of medicine, barriers outnumbered the motivations towards conducting thesis work. Overcoming these barriers in various forms will help enable a greater number of students to pursue research.

Abstract:
AbstractIn an article published in 2003, Klaus Jacobi—using texts partially edited in De Rijk's Logica Modernorum—demonstrated that twelfth-century logic contains a tradition of reflecting about some of the transcendental names (nomina transcendentia). In addition to reinforcing Jacobi's thesis with other texts, this contribution aims to demonstrate two points: 1) That twelfth-century logical reflection about transcendental terms has its origin in the logica vetus, and especially in a passage from Porphyry Isagoge and in Boethius's commentary on it. In spite of the loss of the major part of the Aristotelian corpus, the twelfth-century masters in logic still received some Aristotelian theses concerning the notions of one and being via Porphyry and Boethius; on the basis of such theses, they were able to elaborate a sort of proto-theory of the transcendentals as trans-categorical terms. 2) That this theory is centred on the idea that there exists a particular group of names which have the property that they can be said of everything; this group includes "being", "one", "thing" and "something" (ens, unum, res, aliquid). Twelfth-century masters in logic try to question the (originally Aristotelian) thesis that these terms are equivocal, although they do not deny it completely.

Abstract:
This research is a research and development that aims to develop technical thesis learning by using thesis camp as one of the learning techniques in preparing a thesis proposal for Unimus nursing masters students. The technical development of this learning is based on the length of time it takes to complete a thesis proposal experienced by most of the Unimus master's nursing students who are preparing a thesis proposal. The results of the survey on students showed that 85% had difficulty in compiling a thesis proposal for various reasons, including difficulty finding the research title, difficulty finding problems, and difficulty managing time because most of the students were already working. This has an impact on the length of the student's study period which affects the discrepancy with the educational calendar. This study was designed to: 1) examine students' understanding in the preparation of a thesis proposal, 2) create a technical prototype for thesis camp learning, 3) test the effectiveness of the thesis camp, and 4) compile a thesis camp guidebook. This research generally uses a research and development approach. The research stages used descriptive qualitative methods in exploratory studies, and development through workshop activities in the context of preparing a camp thesis guide book. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it was not possible for students to consult directly with the thesis supervisor, so this thesis camp was carried out with blended learning (70% online learning and 30% learning offline) and while offline still using the Covid-19 prevention protocol, consist of here are wearing masks, washing hands, and keeping a distance. Thesis camp is proven to be effective in increasing the timeliness of completing thesis writing for nursing master students of Unimus.

Abstract:
This article explores Steven Pinker’s thesis with regard to fifth-century BCE Athens. Pinker’s view that the political state became the arbiter of violence is important, but for ancient Greeks that meant that wars became more devastating. States coordinated military action more effectively than earlier tribal chiefs. With regard to violence within communities, the absence of civic values, human rights, or robust legal systems meant that violence mediated many relationships between men and women, masters and slaves, and even aristocrats and lower-status citizens. Violence was a prominent aspect of all ancient people’s lives. In short, Pinker’s thesis provides an excellent heuristic device to analyze Greek antiquity if only to discuss how it may or may not apply in real terms.

Abstract:
The article discusses peculiarities of teaching a professional foreign language to masters of engineering profile and draws the need to use authentic texts in the process of preparing students for scientific research. Building skills of analytical work with authentic texts is considered to be one of the principal means of masters’ professional training, and the problem of text selection and competent organization of working with it is becoming a key target when teaching to read. The main selection criterion is a professionally relevant authentic text containing new and important information for master students as such texts stimulate learners’ language activity. The information provided may become the material to analyze in the theoretical part of master thesis, to write a scientific article, to prepare conference presentation, etc. Working with authentic texts requires hard work but contributes to the development of skills to find and critically process information, consider the foreign engineering experience, independently set and solve scientific problems, develop scientific methods (comparative, analytical, phenomenological, etc.). Competent organization of classroom and individual work of master students with authentic texts is the basis for effective learning.

Abstract:
Theses (dissertations and masters' theses) can be particularly important resources because they represent sources of detailed information that may not be included in a communication of an article in a highly popular journal, owing to space limitations. In addition, a thesis is a document presumably prepared under supervision of an experienced faculty member with the aid of a committee of faculty peers. The supervisory committee constitutes an in-house group of experts who can prevent mistakes from being disseminated, as editors and reviewers do for articles sent to journals. Unfortunately, the value of a thesis may be limited when committee members do not perform their traditional functions, when students cheat, or when students commit plagiarism. Examples of these problems are presented as case studies and as cautionary examples. In addition, suggestions are made to limit damage that can be caused by those guilty of less than exemplary behavior.

Abstract:
1n this interesting and well-researched book, Bruce Masters analyses the historyof Chris tian and Jewish communities in the Ottoman Empire's Arabprovinces and how they fared within a Muslim majority and hierarchy. Byand large, this important study is a story of modernization, identity, and ecclesiasticalpolitics that focuses primarily on Christian communities in Aleppo,Syria. The book's main themes are somewhat familiar: How Christian andJewish communities were in an advantageous position to benefit fromincreasing European influence in the Middle East, and how a secular politicalidentity (Arab nationalism) emerged in the Levant. The book's value liesnot in its overarching thesis, but rather in the details of the story and theimpressive research upon which this well-crafted narrative is based.Masters chronicles how the identities of Christians and Jews evolveddue to their increasing contact with western influences, or, as Masters labelsit, "intrusion." The status quo was forever transformed because manyChristians began to distance themselves, economically and socially, fromtheir Muslim neighbors. Masters, a historian who teaches at Connecticut'sWesleyan University, contends that the western intrusion altered Muslimattitudes toward native Christians. In the nineteenth century, local Christianswould serve for some Muslims as "convenient surrogates for the anger thatcould only rarely be expressed directly against the Europeans."Although the Arab provinces experienced serious sectarian strife in thenineteenth century, these antagonisms were, by and large, absent in the ...

Abstract:
The text compares two themes: Edmund Husserl’s phenomenological reduction, and the category of „empty mind” in Zen Buddhism. The similarities and the difference between the two epistemological strategies are shown and the common ground for metaphysical and partly ethical solutions are outlined. The basic thesis is that different cognitive strategies can lead to very similar effects. In other words, meditation does not exclude discursive knowledge which does not necessarily oppose meditation. Husserl and the great Zen masters see the principle of all principles in consciousness (mind). An empty mind is like the mind of a philosopher who has made a phenomenological reduction.

Abstract:
The article compares the Russian and Western strategies of higher education and scientific training and their implementation in the state policy. The author considers the three-level structure of scientific training which includes in the West Bachelors, Masters and PhD programs, while in Russia in the previous period - specialty, PhD program - to defend the thesis and get the degree of Candidate of Science - and Postdoc program - to get the degree of Doctor of Science. After Russia signed the Bologna Declaration at the Berlin Conference of ministers of education in September 2003, these differences were eliminated and already in 2010 Russia implemented all basic principles of the Bologna process by having transformed its system of education and scientific training on the basis of the British-American model. The author considers both advantages and losses of this reform. Thus, Russia introduced the same education standards with the West and accepted the single certification system (Bachelor, Master, PhD), which is certainly a positive side of the reform. On the other hand, by removing the specialty level, Russia lost the basis for mass scientific training without the Masters level: today we have a negative situation in the system of higher education, when thousands of young people with Bachelors degree cannot find job or continue studying and scientific career without Masters degree, but they do not have money to pay for Masters program due to financial difficulties. As a result, the production and science systems do not get enough qualified specialists and young scientists for whose training the state has already spent a lot of money. The author concludes that it is necessary to use effective foreign experience but without ignoring the Russian education and science achievements and with taking into account national traditions and specifics of the national development.

Mao Zedong’s Philosophy of WarThe aim of this article was to do some critical analysis of Mao Zedong military writing. Our method was to intepretate his manuscripts and compare his thesis to thesis of top marxists thinkers like Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels, Vladimir Lenin and Rosa Luxemburg about the war and warfare. In next step we also compare Mao strategic thought with thought of classical masters of art of war like Carl von Clausewitz and Sun Zi. Finally we did some comments on political aspects in Maoist theory of war. In result we draw some conclusions. Firstly we can say that Mao did nothing new in marxist philosophy of war and his dialectics of war were vague and vulgar. Secondly we can say that his military writings was mostly influenced by Clausewitz through soviet military thought rather than Sun Zi. In the other hand his theory of guerilla warfare was to some extent original and finally we can describe Mao’s strategic thought as some kind of progress in twenty century art of war.

Abstract:
This study aimed at exploring the prevalence and nature of examiners' comments on the appropriateness of draft M. Ed dissertations at Islamic University in Uganda. A total of 530 reports were stratified according to specialisations and examiners from which a sample of 300 reports were randomly selected. Content and thematic analyses were conducted on the reports whose findings were interpreted using Bourke and Holbrook's (2013) indicators for assessment of Masters' thesis quality. Findings reveal that under Contribution, 'originality' attracted few comments which tended to be neutral, while 'substantive' and 'advancement of knowledge' tended to be inappropriately done. The Literature Review 'accuracy' and 'application' categories were among the most highly commented on, with most of them tending to be inappropriately done, while relatively few comments were made on \literature coverage'. Under Approach/Methodology, 'research design' tended to be appropriately done while 'sampling', 'validity', and 'reliability' tended to be inappropriately done. In Analysis/Findings, 'quantitative data presentation' tended to be appropriately done, while 'qualitative data analysis' and 'interpretation' tended to be inappropriately done. Throughout the dissertation components, concerns on Presentation: 'communicative competence' and 'expression' were common. It is recommended that the university should engage Masters' students more in seminars and workshops on research methods and scholarly writing.

Abstract:
Abstract. Founded by Romans, Vimercate had an important geographical position in Lombardy. Layers of history are visible throughout the town, yet there is the inconsistency of historical data and neglect of the historical centre in the past decades. Only recently researchers and professors from Politecnico di Milano pointed out the importance of studying layers of history in the built environment. In the past years, Vimercate was used as an example for students from masters and bachelor courses in preservation studios. This is where the idea for the master’s thesis was developed which focuses on the collection, digitalisation and investigation of primary historical cartography and then other historical documents. Historical cartography can offer extensive knowledge about the past of this town and it is one of the main sources of information. For the creation of the project was selected free and open-source software QGIS where the selected historical maps were vectorised, compared and investigated. A new understanding of the development of the city was studied and some discoveries appeared. Effective application of the thesis project started in the courses of Architectural preservation studio at Politecnico di Milano. This was followed by the interest of citizens in the project who were actively participated in the creation of the same. Other stakeholders showed interest in involving in future developments. The thesis found its application in didactic activities of students and pupils.

Allegorical representations of values in the works of masters of various artistic schools, engravings and sculptural images are analyzed. Proverbs and sayings being judgments (arguments of different levels) with special status are considered as presuppositions. Principles and convictions, aphorisms and maxims considered as presupposition are analyzed in systematic model of argumentation. Judgments of deontic logic, which can be both arguments and a thesis and presupposition, are dealt with separately. Deontic systems and logics of E. Mally, G.-J. Lokhorst, G.H. von Wright, E.F.
This research provides an opportunity to reflect, evaluate and to implement better procedures for practice, specifically, the research supervision of post graduate students at the taught Masters Level. In this context, empirical data were gathered from recently graduated ‘taught masters’ students in the business arena in an Irish Third Level Institution. The main objective was to understand their specific research and learning needs better. This current research is novel, as an examination of the academic literature in relation to this area is scant. It is envisaged that this research will provide a ‘voice’ for the students in this field. A quantitative approach was applied and data were gathered from 62 adult graduates.

The main finding of this study concerns the alignment of the programme as a whole, where it has become apparent and recommended that a taught module on the programme, ‘research methods’(a mandatory module) will need to be delivered just prior to the commencement of the research thesis module that this research paper appraises. Currently, it is delivered over a year before commencement of the research thesis proper to the students. Overall, the findings are positive and are discussed in detail in this research.

The main aim of this evaluation of current practices is to establish where improvements can be made as a direct result of the recommendations from the recent graduates in this study. These recommendations will be considered, and relevant resultant changes will be made to improve future practice. It is envisaged that the findings of this research will better inform the author, the Department, and the Faculty of Business & Humanities for future programmatic reviews. The objective is that more effective methods will be established for future students to achieve their own learning and research objectives more effectively.

Abstract:
The subject of the proposed research is a historical analysis of the works of the masters of the Palekh craft of the 1930s - 1970s in the field of design of theatrical productions – a little-studied phenomenon of Russian folk culture of the twentieth century. The author of the article draws the most illustrative examples, referring to the sketches created by Palekh artists for productions of the Soviet theater. Special attention in the study is paid to the largest figures of the craft who worked in the field of theatrical design: I. I. Golikov, P. D. Bazhenov, N. M. Parilov, A. A. Kotukhina. The purpose of the article is to show the importance of the creative contribution of the Palekh masters to the development of theatrical and decorative art of the Soviet era on the extensive material of numerous productions of major theaters in Moscow, Leningrad and other cities. Using the method of comparative analysis, as well as historical-systemic and iconographic research methods, the author emphasizes the importance of knowledge about the works of Palekh artists in the field of theatrical productions for a correct understanding of the general history of Palekh craft in the twentieth century. The scientific novelty of the research consists in an attempt to analyze the topic under consideration as a single complex phenomenon. The main conclusion of the article is the thesis about the inseparable connection of Paleshan's "theatrical" works with lacquer miniature: the theatrical design works of Palekh masters appear at the same time with their experiments with lacquer miniature; the largest Palekh miniaturists worked with theaters; during the entire Soviet period, Paleshan's experience in theatrical and decorative art was in demand as much as and their lacquer miniature.

We aim to inspire bachelor, masters and PhD students to engage with patients and the public during their undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate thesis work and to inspire educators to collaborate with patient and public involvement/engagement to develop and deliver teaching and offer their students opportunities to engage with patients and the public. We argue that when patients and the public are included in educational projects, such engagement will be an easier task once students graduate. We argue that including patients and the public in educational project work and encouraging reflections with a person with lived experience benefits students in terms of understanding the importance of reflection and validation, setting positive precedence for their future careers.

Family jurisprudence came in second place, with 63 theses (22% of all theses), followed in third place by Usuli studies and juristic maxims, which were the main themes for 44 theses (15%). The fourth major theme was found to be crime and ÍudËd, with 23 theses written. The four aforementioned themes accounted for 75% of all Arabic Masters theses written between 1998 and 2016. Due to time and other constraints, the researchers were unable to carry out a comprehensive review of all theses written; instead, the researchers focused on a total of 81 Masters theses written on the Jurisprudence of Transactions (40 theses), and Islamic finance (41 theses) written between 1998 and 2010. The aforementioned theses represented 49% of all theses written in the 12 year period. Emphasizing the importance of University theses during the process of writing literature reviews is an established norm that is attributed to the fact that such theses represent the latest developments in research. This study is expected to help future researchers locate relevant literature in the form of Masters theses, and consequently carryout effective literature reviews. This inductive study does not represent a comprehensive review of all theses written between 1998 and 2010. However, the researchers managed to document all theses written in the two aforementioned themes during the 12 year period. Key words: Masters thesis, research trends, jurisprudence of transactions, Islamic finance, family jurisprudence.

Abstract:
The results presented are part of a doctoral thesis which is being finalized. The research is centred on the online distance learning student experience in higher education, considering the variable time management, its relationship with technologies, and the virtualization of teaching and learning. Exploratory in nature, the research takes the form of a case study using a mixed methodology. One of the main objectives of the study is to contribute to the construction of a theoretical framework on the distance learning student time variable. We present a profile of academic time use by e-students (monochronic or polychronic) and suggest an intermediate profile. The conclusions point out that the profile of academic time use varies according to the degree of the course attended. It was found that undergraduate students show a more polychronic profile than masters and doctoral students.

Abstract:
Across many years of teaching Research Methods and assessing many applications for admission into higher degree studies which require an understanding of theories, principles, strategies and skills needed to complete a higher degree such as a Masters or a PhD, one of the things I have found problematic for many students is the inability to articulate differences between theory, theoretical framework and a conceptual framework for a proposed research project. This paper uses experiential methodology to draw upon my experience in practice, and systematic literature review methodology to draw upon supporting scholarly literature by leaders in the field, to contribute to existing knowledge on the meaning of each of these concepts, and more importantly to distinguish between them in a study of Research Methods, and in particular as they relate to designing a research proposal and a thesis for a higher degree. The primary aim is to help the reader develop a firm grasp of the meaning of these concepts and how they should be used in academic research discourses. The review answers five questions. 1. What does each of these terms mean? 2. When and how should each be used? 3. What purposes does a theoretical framework serve? 4. How do you develop a theoretical framework for your research proposal or thesis? 5. What does a good theoretical framework look like?
