Abstract:
The 21th century has seen huge changes of corporations. While companies’ business grew rapidly, attention and recognition on corporate social responsibility has gradually been attracted and put on a vital strategy position. It has been proofed to be a crucial way that enterprises share their social responsibility actively in order to enhance their competitive advantage. With more and more enterprises knowing how important social responsibility is for their development, they released a new method which is called sustainability report to show them determine and confidence to take social responsibility. This thesis can be divided into six parts. The first part is about introduction and background. The second part is literature review. The third part is the development of hypotheses. The fourth part is research method and the fifth part is a conclusion. The last part is the reference.

Abstract:
Neoliberal theories share the idea of “the market” i.e. a “higher” instance or an autonomous process which commands people. But this concept includes a deep meaning, namely the picture of a world divided into two parts: a market and its contrary, like “the” state. This picture is similar to the way demagogues think – who hold true a form of thought in which the social world is stereotypically divided into two strictly separate parts: a homogenous in-group, “Us”, which is the target group of political propaganda, and a homogenous out-group. “The market” contra “the state”-view uses a binary code similarly, has a dynamic-actionistic momentum and is empirically unprovable. This can be shown in the writings of Mises and Hayek as in the neoclassical general equilibrium theory. My thesis is that this is the common element of the different theorists gathered in the Mont Pélerin society. The binary code of “the market” has an advantage in debates: it cannot be critized in principle, even in deep crises. Due to its quasi-demagogic deep structure, every mistake must be attributed to the “the” state, and the remedy for every crisis has to be a call for more “market”, as Tea Party representatives argue or the European austerity packages imply.

Corbalán, María Inés. "From Generative Linguistics to Categorial Grammars: Overt Subjects in Control Infinitives." Bulletin of Symbolic Logic 27, no. 2 (June 2021): 215. http://dx.doi.org/10.1017/bsl.2021.32.

Abstract:
AbstractThe present thesis lies at the interface of logic and linguistics; its object of study are control sentences with overt pronouns in Romance languages (European and Brazilian Portuguese, Italian and Spanish). This is a topic that has received considerably more attention on the part of linguists, especially in recent years, than from logicians. Perhaps for this reason, much remains to be understood about these linguistic structures and their underlying logical properties. This thesis seeks to fill the lacunas in the literature or at least take steps in this direction by way of addressing a number of issues that have so far been under-explored. To this end, we put forward two key questions, one linguistic and the other logical. These are, respectively, (1) What is the syntactic status of the surface pronoun? and (2) What are the available mechanisms to reuse semantic resources in a contraction-free logical grammar? Accordingly, the thesis is divided into two parts: generative linguistics and categorial grammar. Part I starts by reviewing the recent discussion within the generative literature on infinitive clauses with overt subjects, paying detailed attention to the main accounts in the field. Part II does the same on the logical grammar front, addressing in particular the issues of control and of anaphoric pronouns. Ultimately, the leading accounts from both camps will be found wanting. The closing chapter of each of Part I and Part II will thus put forward alternative candidates, that we contend are more successful than their predecessors. More specifically, in Part I, we offer a linguistic account along the lines of Landau’s T/Agr theory of control. In Part II, we present two alternative categorial accounts: one based on Combinatory Categorial Grammar, the other on Type-Logical Grammar. Each of these accounts offers an improved, more fine-grained perspective on control infinitives featuring overt pronominal subjects. Finally, we include an Appendix in which our type-logical proposal is implemented in a categorial parser/theorem-prover.Abstract prepared by María Inés Corbalán.E-mail: inescorbalan@yahoo.com.arURL: http://repositorio.unicamp.br/jspui/handle/REPOSIP/331697

Abstract:
The major thesis of this paper is that some of the most dramatic gains in special education have been in the education of emotionally disturbed children. Unfortunately, the converse is equally true — some of the most pressing needs in special education are evident in this area. A minor, though significant, theme is that, while the field of emotional disturbance has perhaps the most shallow pedogogical roots of any category of exceptionality in special education, it has the deepest philosophical and psychological roots. This could be an asset in the present context of decline in support for professional schools of education. Other categorical areas of special education have had more primary affiliation with pedagogy, whereas the education of emotionally disturbed children has had more basic affiliation with psychology. I will first discuss the strengths of the area and selected accomplishments and changes during the past 20 years — the approximate total history — as a significant area of education. I will then focus on some of the challenges and opportunities for growth. My discussion of our strengths is divided into three parts: (a) maturing and change in our perspective, (b) areas in which we have been in the vanguard of special education, and (c) specific gains we have made.

Abstract:
In recent years, with further development of the Internet and artificial intelligence, the research on using news sentiments, and then predicting investor behavior has become more feasible. Based on the news information obtained from the Internet, this article analyzes the investor ‘s emotions about the news, further predicts the behavior of investors, and then the rise and fall of investment asset prices. We use news sentiment tendency and stock price of listed companies to analyze whether the news sentiment really affects the stock price and the degree of its influence. The research results of the thesis are divided into two parts: (1) A CNN neural network capable of analyzing news that may have an impact on stock prices in the near future is designed and trained to obtain a timely response and form a simulated investment decision for investors to adjust the investment strategy timely; (2) Combined with the economic indicators, this article uses the LSTM neural network to comprehensively investigate whether the emotional tendency of the news has a significant impact on the stock price. This article draws four kinds of images, which can test the accuracy of the model from different angles and guide consumers’ investment.

Schliesser, Eric. "Four Species of Reflexivity and History of Economics in Economic Policy Science." Journal of the Philosophy of History 5, no. 3 (2011): 425–45. http://dx.doi.org/10.1163/187226311x599899.

Abstract:
Abstract This paper argues that history of economics has a fruitful, underappreciated role to play in the development of economics, especially when understood as a policy science. This goes against the grain of the last half century during which economics, which has undergone a formal revolution, has distanced itself from its ‘literary’ past and practices precisely with the aim to be a more successful policy science. The paper motivates the thesis by identifying and distinguishing four kinds of reflexivity in economics. The main thesis of this paper is that because these forms of reflexivity are not eliminable, the history of economics must play a constitutive role in economics (and graduate education within economics). An assumption that I clarify in this paper is that the history of economics ought to be part of the subject matter studied by economics when they are interested in policy science. Even if one does not accept the conclusion, the fourfold classification of reflexivity might hold independent interest. The paper is divided in two parts. First, by reflecting on the writings of George Stigler, Paul Samuelson, George and Milton Friedman, I offer a stylized historical introduction to and conceptualization of the themes of this paper. In particular, I identify various historically influential arguments and strategies that reduced the role of history of economics within the economics discipline. In it I also canvass six arguments that try to capture the cost to economics (understood as a science) for sidelining the history of economics from within the discipline. A sub-text of the introduction is that for contingent reasons, post World War II economics evolved into a policy science. Second, by drawing on the work of Kenneth Boulding, in particular, George Soros, Thomas Merton, Gordon Tullock, I distinguish between four species of reflexivity. These are used to then strengthen the argument for the constitutive role of the history of economics within the economics profession. In particular, I argue that so-called Kuhn-losses are especially pernicious when faced with policy choices under so-called Knightian uncertainty.

It explores the problematic and the conception that reading, if attached to writing, can be an output, fruit of initiation, an adventure with symbolic generality related to pleasure. In a theoretical essay mode, it’s divided into four parts: a) first gesture, the writing; b) 2nd gesture, the reading; c) 3rd gesture, the pleasure involved; d) 4th gesture, other readings. It develops the thesis according to the precepts of Roland Barthes (1915/1980), based on the degree of zero writing. It sustains the importance of the school to give time to fruition, to the future and creative idleness, in contrast to the exhaustive work on the development of reading/writing that seems to ignore the apparent link between reading, writing and life through a relationship in which the writer/reader doesn’t only have the authorship of the text giving up of being the author/user and starting to be used by the language (instead of just using it) bravely, considering the other that is necessarily interwoven in the speeches that form us daily. Keywords: Reading. Abstract:
David S. Powers’ book, originally a doctoral dissertation submitted toPrinceton University, is a welcome addition to the already growing corpusof studies revising Joseph Schacht’s thesis that Islamic law did not exist duringthe lifetime of the Prophet. This is, however, not the central theme ofthe book. Powers contends that the Islamic law of inheritance is not identicalto the system of inheritance revealed to Prophet Muhammad and that theMuslim community is not in possession of the original reading and understandingof several Qur’anic verses and Prophetic hadith. The thesis presented in this book can be summarized as follows:Islamic law began to develop with Qur‘anic legislation which was moreclear and systematic on the subject of inheritance. In pre-Islamic Arabia theintergenemtional transmission of property was by seniority rather than by directdescent. The Qur’an introduced a new system of inheritance which reflecteda transition from tribalism to individualism, with more emphasis on the rightsof women to property. The author sees two systems of the law of inheritancein Islam:1) The proto-Islamic law of inheritance which existed only during2) Islamic law of inheritance, which exists as ‘ilm al-farii‘id.the lifetime of the Prophet; and,Powers contends that the proto-Islamic system was mainly testatory andthe property was distributed according to fixed shares only in the absenceof a will. Husband and wife, not being blood relatives, inherited as testatoryheirs. The author divides his dissertation into two parts. In the first part he dealswith the proto-Islamic, in the second with the Islamic system of inheritance. The first part proceeds by looking at the practice of bequest and testation inMakkah and Madinah in early Islam, giving special attention to the inheritancebetween husbands and wives, and the Qur’anic law of testation and intestacy. The second part proceeds by looking at socio-economic developmentsin the early period and contends that people in power manipulated the Qur‘anic ...

Abstract:
This paper pays tribute to life and work of professor Dr. Slavko Stojković, a diplomat and state agent of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. It is divided into five parts - introduction, short biography and three fields of his work - representation in international arbitral and judicial proceedings, where he made his principal achievements, diplomacy, and finally, legal writing, in which he also left a mark. The part on representation briefly mentions the cases Losinger (1935) and Pajzs, Csaky, Esterhazy (1935) before the Permanent Court of International Justice in which he acted as the state agent of Yugoslavia, the pathological arbitration S.E.E.E. v. Yugoslavia in which he was involved in various ways, and his role as the state agent of Yugoslavia before the German-Yugoslav and Hungaro-Yugoslav Mixed Arbitral Tribunals. Reference is made to sources that cover these cases in more detail. His diplomatic activity includes participation in the sessions of the League of Nations, and in particular his role in advocating the adoption of the Convention for the Prevention and Punishment of Terrorism (1937), as well as his participation in negotiating with the Halyard Mission (1944) and with the French Government (1950). Among his legal writings, the most remarkable are his doctoral thesis De l'autorité de la sentence arbitrale en droit international public obtained at the Sorbonne in 1924 under the presidency of Antoine Pillet, and often cited even in modern times, his article on Mixed Arbitral Tribunals (1931) published in French, and his article on the "Possibility of Existence of International Arbitration Independent of National Laws" (1966) anticipating the appearance of investment arbitration. The authors conclude that Dr. Slavko Stojković was one of the most eminent lawyers of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia and the forefather of arbitration law in Yugoslavia and Serbia.

Abstract The aims of this thesis are to figure out the techniques and process of translation of English idiom into Indonesian Language. The data were taken from a Novel by Sidney Sheldon entitled “Bloodline” and its translation Garis Darah. The collected data was analyzed by using qualitative and quantitative methods. The data of this study were collected by identifying and classifying the data based on the idioms and translation procedures by using Hocket (1958). Another theory is from Vinay & Dalbernet’s (1995) and also supported by a theory proposed by Catford (1978). Through classification based on the theory there are three types of idioms, they are English phrasal compound that is divided into three parts such as the close form, the hyphenated form and the open form; figure of speech that is divided into four parts such as simile, hyperbole, metaphor, and personification; and slang. All types of idioms are applied in this thesis and it is found there are 289 data. The close form is 3, the hyphenated form is 16, the open form is 11, simile with 42 data, metaphor and personification are 26, hyperbole is 33, and slang is 132 data. On the other hand, there are seven techniques of translation according to the theory, they are borrowing, calque, literal, transposition, modulation, adaptation, and equivalence. All techniques are applied in this thesis. The most dominant translation technique that is applied in this thesis is adaptation with the percentage of 33,5% (97 data), the second is literal with 33,2% (96 data), modulation and equivalence has same percentage as 10,3% (30 data), transposition is 9,3% (27 data), borrowing with 2,76% (8 data), and the last is calque with 0,34% (1 data). Abstract:
Abstract: The overall objective of this paper is to present an assessment of the literature on Mercosur since its inception in 1991 until 2015. It is intended to verify the main themes addressed by researchers on regional integration in the Southern Cone during the block’s development. The article’s research question is how the studies on Mercosur integration have evolved over time, with emphasis on the role of ideas in the process. It is argued that there is a growth of scientific production on topics related to social issues in the block, which have followed the ideological change of governments from the protagonists States, Brazil and Argentina, since 2003. The methodology used was the qualitative analysis of dissertations, theses, books and articles written about the Mercosur. The theoretical framework adopted was the Constructivist Theory, which determines the formation of identities of actors from material and ideational factors. The work is divided into three parts, and the introduction and concluding remarks. The result of the study is that even if there is a primacy of economic issues, from 2003 the identities of the actors change and social issues become more addressed by academic research.Key Words: MERCOSUL; Regional Integration; Constructivism.

Abstract:
Entities of many kinds, not just material things, have been credited with parts. Armstrong (1978: 36), for example, has taken propositions and properties to be parts of their conjunctions, sets to be parts of sets that include them, and geographical regions and events to be parts of regions and events that contain them. The justification for bringing all these diverse relations under a single ‘part–whole’ concept is that they share all or most of the formal features articulated in mereology (Simons 1987). But the concept has also prompted an ontological thesis that has been expressed in various ways: that wholes are ‘no ontological addition’ to their parts (meaning their proper parts, i.e. not counting a whole as a part of itself); that to list both a whole and its parts is ‘double counting’; and that there is ‘no more’ to a whole than its parts: for example, that there is no more to a conjunction (i.e. to its truth conditions) than the conjuncts that are its parts, and whose truth or falsity determines whether it is true or false. For brevity, I shall express the thesis in the last of these ways, as the claim that entities with parts are ‘nothing but’ those parts.

The present article is part of the diploma thesis entitled Frequent causes of violinists’ injuries and selected preventive exercises, which was defended in July 2020. The thesis was written under the supervision of Maciej Łabecki, dr hab., prof. at the AM, (Faculty of Instrumental Performance, Academy of Music in Łódź). The text is divided into two parts – the first part analyses posture mistakes which are made by the majority of violinists while playing their instruments and examines their causes. The second one – based on foreign language publications – describes relaxation techniques and provides an exemplary set of warm-up and stretching exercises, which should be done by every musician before, during and after their practice sessions. Different types of physical activity and their health benefits are also explained in this part. The author made her decision to share the practical part of her diploma thesis hoping that it would prove helpful for other musicians, especially string instrument players. She would appreciate if this publication encouraged readers to familiarise themselves with her entire research.

My close and direct association with Srinivas (MNS) as his last student began in 1976 that lasted till I joined the University of Hyderabad in June 1991 as a faculty in the Department of Anthropology. After joining the University of Hyderabad, I physically got distanced. I also learnt that he was a bit annoyed with me as I was moving out of Bangalore and he never wanted me to leave Bangalore. I was also not very happy to get distanced from him physically. Professor Srinivas and Mrs Srinivas always treated me as a family member and almost like a son. However, my condition was such that I had to get out of the Institute of Social and Economic Change (ISEC) to get into a secure academic job, as I was on a tenurial project position at ISEC. Also, I was not growing any younger. V. S. Parthasarathy (hereafter VSP), a close associate of MNS, told him about my plight but still, the hurt feeling remained. I feel that I have always been unlucky in this regard. These things apart, I have immensely gained academically under his tutelage. If I count my meetings and interactions for my PhD thesis, they are only a few and far between. However, during my frequent interactions with him (every Saturday morning, I used to visit him from 1987 till I left Bangalore in 1991 June, and I tried to make a catalogue of the books in his library), I have learnt about many scholars of all hues, the discipline of anthropology and sociology, academic politics, and much more. Each meeting with him was a rich experience of learning. That is why, it is difficult for me as to where and how to begin to write about my journey under MNS’ tutelage. There were also some misgivings created by circumstances (maybe also by some persons) which also had impacted the relationship with MNS sometime in the middle. Because of perseverance, they all got dissolved and the relationship was always in a buoyance state. In other words, there were times of trials and tribulations in this journey, but patience and perseverance always paid in managing my relationship with MNS. He used to enquire about my problems and always tried to comfort me. This I have always tried to do with my students as it helps them to overcome any psychological trauma that they face. Anyway, I will not discuss in this write-up non-academic or personal matters. Let me make this write-up a little structured. I would like to divide this into five parts of timeline events that happened during my association with him and how each one taught me many things, including also as to how to face problems in career and life.

<p>The thesis of this article is that judicial discretion can be justified by economic reasons. Therefore, the work is divided into three parts. First, there are presented two basic approaches towards judicial discretion which are present in Polish legal literature. Second, there are introduced two self-prepared cases from two different areas of law which are penal and tort law. With the usage of economic tools, there is shown that giving judges decisional freedom can lead to economically efficient sentences. According to the second example, judge’s discretional power to calculate the amount of compensation can be very important to maintain efficient tort.</p>

The design of automobile parts milk-run vehicle routing is the problem of designing the non-full set of goods vehicle routing with time window. This thesis established a vehicle routing model with time window, studied milk-run vehicle routing of automobile parts, used the particle swarm optimization to solve the problem of the example, and obtained a satisfied results in acceptable time. It also verified the validity of the model and algorithm.

Abstract:
In 1999, split vegetation tops in onions, cv. Stutgartska, grown in the surroundings of Prague, Bohemia, were observed. Such plants developed two or more bulbs from one originally planted. In addition, irregular and asymmetrical drying of the apical parts of outer skirts and in some cases scaling of the outer parts of divided bulbs occurred. Such divided bul bs suffered su bstantially higher damage during storage in winter; premature budding and grow the of individual parts was frequent. Further splitting of the vegetation tops into two to five parts and followed by premature budding was observed in individual parts of divided bulbs. Ultrathin sections were prepared from roots and leaves of divided bulbs. Phytoplasma bodies were found in tissues of both roots and leaves. Such bodies were not found in roots and leaves of healthy looking and undivided bulbs.

Abstract:
In Nascimento (2015) I criticized the thesis defended in Irwin (1983) according to which two of the most famous characters in Euripides’ plays. In that article, I’ve pointed out several weakness in these thesis in order to justify my disagreement. I also suggested that, although there was no reason why we should stop looking for examples and explanations of akratic behavior in Euripides’ plays, that should not be the only kind of irrational behavior we ought to be interested in finding there. In this paper, I argue that Medea actually instantiates a form of irrational behavior that is different from akratic behavior. The argument that follows is divided in four parts. After a brief introduction (section I), I clarify what sort of irrationality I believe to be instantiated by Medea’s behavior using Michael Bratman’s theory of plan stability (section II). Then, I analyze Euripides’ text in order to show why I think we should say that Medea does display that kind of irrationality (section III). The paper concludes with a brief summary of the argument (section IV). --- Original in English.

This paper focuses on discussing how to structure society according to Dahrendorf, how he built his theory; from where the building theory came from, and what new thesis Daherendorf produced. Dahrendorf sees social reality as having two faces (conflict and consensus). Therefore, the theory of sociology is divided into two parts; conflict theory and consensus theory. Here it is seen that Daherndorf in theory tried to perfect Marx and Weber's opinions on social reality. The final aspect of Dahrendorf's conflict theory is the link between conflict and social change. Conflict, according to him, leads to change and development. In conflict situations, the groups involved take actions that make changes in the social structure.

The main thesis of this paper was to briefly describe the measurement technique using a non-contact laser profilometer. This paper is divided into several parts, where in the introduction, in the theoretical analysis, we described the necessity of using control mechanisms in automation. Then, in the second chapter, we have developed the technology of measurement with a profilometer and its application in scientific work and in practice. In the experimental part, we have defined the application of a profilometer in laboratory conditions on an automated line in the measurement of a part printed with a 3D printer. Finally, we evaluated the advantages and disadvantages of this device compared to mechanical measuring devices.

Abstract:
Class differences in racial attitudes among blacks were examined using the 1979–1980 National Survey of Black Americans (NSBA). We examined two perspectives—class realignment and ethnic competition—as possible explanations for attitudinal differences between middle- and lower-class blacks. The majority of our findings supported the ethnic competition perspective which predicts a more critical attitude among middle- than lower-class blacks toward the stratification system. However, we found no significant class differences in blacks' attitudinal orientation towards whites. In addition, a clear difference between classes with respect to political action was found. In general, the results provide qualified support for Wilson's class polarization thesis.

Abstract:
The purpose of the article is to identify the specific characteristics of religious audit performed in Muslim financial institutions. The thesis put forward in the study is that cultural (religious) identity, determining the space in which the functions assigned to audit processes are realized, determines their content and scope. The layout of the article and the applied research methods, including the subject literature studies and also the descriptive and comparative analysis were focused on obtaining the defined research purpose and verifying the specified thesis. The article, apart from the introduction and conclusion, is divided into three parts devoted to the following problems: a/the nature of religious audit performed by Muslim financial institutions, b/the profile of the auditor carrying out the audit and c/the challenges faced by religious audit due to current determinants and dynamics of Muslim finance development. As a result of the conducted research the above presented thesis was positively verified by observing that Islam, regard- ed as a factor influencing the institutional, cultural and socio-economic space in which Muslim financial institutions are functioning, determines the nature, functions and scope of the audit they perform. The value of the publication is its focus on the question rarely discussed in the national literature of the subject, i.e. religious audit performed in Islamic space.

Abstract:
It is a commonplace that in many societies people adhere to profoundly different conceptions of the good. Given this we need to know what political principles are appropriate. How can we treat people who are committed to different accounts of the good with fairness? One recent answer to this pressing question is given by Brian Barry in his important work Justice as Impartiality. This book, of course, contains much more than this. It includes a powerful and incisive discussion of several accounts of distributive justice (‘justice as mutual advantage’ and ‘justice as reciprocity’), a critique of other attempts to defend liberal neutrality and a rebuttal of those who are critical of the ideal of impartiality. In this paper I wish, however, to focus on Barry's defence of liberal neutrality. The paper falls into three parts. Section I outlines the thesis that Barry wants to defend and gives a brief sketch of the argument he employs to defend it. Barry's argument makes two claims – what I have termed the Sceptical Thesis and the Agreement Thesis. Section II therefore critically assesses Barry's defence of the sceptical thesis and Section III examines the agreement thesis.

Full text
Abstract:
Enormous amount of scrap is generated on the shopfloor during manufacturing. Energy needed to melt increasing quantities of scrap will be ever increasing, and so will be the loss of metal during melting. Hence, conversion of scrap directly into marketable products by solid state processing methods is economical due to a lower energy requirement and a greater yield compared to the melting route. This makes the process more environmentally friendly. However, not all materials can be recycled in a solid state, with equal ease. One therefore needs to quantitatively assess the recyclability of a given kind of scrap. In the present work, a procedure to assess the recyclability of finely divided ferrous metallic scrap generated on the shopfloor is demonstrated. Recyclability includes material and the process used for recycling. For instance, a given material might be more recyclable using one process compared to the other. In the present study, the potential of powder technology (powder metallurgy (PM) and metal injection molding (MIM) based processes are compared for solid-state conversion of scrap directly into usable products. Grinding sludge collected in the shopfloor was pulverized and used as raw material. Properties of sintered parts were found to be significantly better due to in-situ reduction and densification during sintering. A quantitative measure of recyclability, namely, the Recyclability Index (RI) was defined to compare the manufacturability of different products. Recycled ferrous parts manufactured by PM route are found to have a greater RI (superior recyclability) than those manufactured by the MIM route. Complex reduction and sintering mechanisms in MIM parts, particularly, the kinetics of diffusion and volumetric shrinkage, limit suitability of MIM for recycling. In contrast, few industrial parts were developed and manufactured by conventional PM based approach to demonstrate the suitability of this novel recycling process especially for manufacture of porous parts.

With the construction of Zhoushan Free Trade Zone and settlement of Boeing project, internationalization has brought new opportunities to Zhoushan's foreign trade industries, vigorously promoted Zhoushan's marine economy into rapid development, and put forward higher request to the cultivation of Business English talents. But based on the current social reality, there exist few international Business English talents who both have the ability of language and operation. Zhoushan's marine industries' development is entering a new era of internationalization. If we can cultivate Business English talents who both have the ability of language and operation, we will be sure to break through the bottleneck of Zhoushan's marine industries towards the world. Based on current situation of Business English talents training, this thesis takes Zhejiang Ocean University as an example to make positive contribution to exploring innovative talents training modes of Business English major in maritime universities and promoting the development of Zhoushan's marine economy. This thesis can be divided into 3 parts. Part 1 introduces the background, significance and current situation on cultivating Business English talents of maritime universities. Part 2 is an experimental research on current situation of cultivating Business English talents in Zhejiang Ocean University. In this essay, we reply to the five commentaries offered of our 2016 book, Socrates Tenured: The Institutions of 21st Century Philosophy. We argue that, in a recursive fashion, those commentaries exemplify the thesis of our book – that contemporary philosophy has a blind spot concerning the philosophical priors of its status as an institution. That is, 20th and now 21st century philosophy has limited metaphilosophy to being an exclusively theoretical exercise, neglecting to also pursue a ‘philosophy of philosophy’ in its material, bureaucratic, and Marxist dimensions. After making these points in the introduction, the article is divided into three parts that deal, in turn, with comments that are facile, earnest, and provocative. We then conclude by noting the unintentional irony of our contemporary situation, where the vast majority of philosophy departments are inhabited by sophists rather than philosophers.

This article intends to present a review on the history and literature of racism and black activism in Brazil. It is divided into two parts: the first is focused on the way concepts such as racism and anti-racism were explored in Brazilian academia, the emergence of the racial democracy thesis and its critics, and academic militance. The second follows the development of black activism in Brazil since the proclamation of the Republic (1889) until today, including two periods of authoritarian government. Where literature in the field suggests there were three phases of black activism in Brazil, we propose a fourth phase for the current period (2000’s onwards). The guiding idea of this division is that academic and street activism were developed side by side – findings in academia were reflected in the flags defended by activists, and the latter became public policy.

Injection molded discontinuous fiber reinforced components are widely used in many demanding engineering applications and are exposed to a complex combination of thermo-mechanical loads. Mean field homogenization approach was successfully applied for predicting the global stiffness behavior over wide part geometry complexity, fiber orientation distribution (FOD) and loading situations including loading rate and temperature dependence. The prediction of the component strength, however, is significantly more complicated and requires additional and theoretical considerations as well as the application of various numerical tools and sophisticated experiments. To overcome above difficulties the MFH technique was extended with the first pseudo grain failure or damage (FPGF or FPGD) approach proposed by the research group of Doghri [1] elaborated in detail using short glass fiber reinforced PP-GF in the PhD Thesis of Reiter [2] and shortly described in this study.

AbstractThe study of classes of finite groups is divided into two parts. The projective theory studies formations and Schunck classes. The dual injective theory studies Fitting classes. In each type of class a generalisation of Sylow's theorem holds. In this paper we seek further generalisations of Sylow's theorem which hold for classes which are neither injective nor projective, but obey other related properties. Firstly a common framework for the injective and projective theories is constructed. Within the context of this common framework further types of Sylow theorem can then be sought. An example is given of a property which is a simple hybrid of injectivity and projectivity which we will call ‘interjectivity’. A generalised Sylow theorem is then proved in the interjective case.

The purpose of this explanatory mixed method study is to describe students’ perceptions of the thesis supervision approaches used, their satisfaction with these approaches, and whether their satisfaction differed based on students’ gender, degree sought, and concentration. The study comprised two parts. First, a questionnaire was distributed to all graduate students who had written a thesis/dissertation during 2015-2017 (N=213) at one of the universities in the United Arab Emirates. Second, a group of students from among those mentioned above (N=16) were interviewed. The study revealed that the most commonly used approach by the supervisors was the collaborative interpersonal approach and the least used one was the directive informational approach. There was no significant difference according to the degree sought and concentration. However, when it came to gender, female students believed that the supervisors had used the collaborative approach more than the male students. Overall, graduate students were satisfied with their supervisors’ approaches, while some were highly satisfied. The findings indicated a pattern where the more collaborative the supervisor was, the more satisfied the student became and the more the supervisor used the non-directive interpersonal approach, the less satisfied the students became. The study recommends that faculty supervisors attend to the various needs and preferences of their students and be ready to shift away from their preferred approach to suit the diverse needs and abilities of their students.

Abstract:
The main purpose of the article is to define the framework in which one can situate Leopold Blaustein’s philosophy. The author focuses on the question of the method which is used by Blaustein and he situates it in the historical-philosophical context. The article defends the thesis that Blaustein uses a method which can be labelled as a phenomenologically oriented descriptive psychology that is close to, though not identical with, Edmund Husserl’s project as formulated in the first edition of his Logical Investigations and that is connected to Husserl’s 1925 lectures on the phenomenological psychology. The article is divided into four parts. In the first part, the author disputes the one-sided classifications of Blaustein’s philosophy either as a continuator of the analytical tradition of the Lvov-Warsaw School, or as a mere repetition of Husserl’s achievements. In the next part, the author sketches an intellectual biography of Blaustein and on this basis he defines the context in which one has to situate this thought. In this regard, two further parts of the article are devoted to two sources of inspiration for Blaustein. In the third part, a selection of methods and concepts of descriptive psychology are examined, and in the last part of the article, references to Husserl’s phenomenology are explored.

It shall be examined how anti-physicalist arguments give rise to the tension between those aspects of our everyday life (with focus on phenomenality) and the thesis of physicalism. The debate over the subjective character of consciousness, or as it is sometimes called: “the hard problem of consciousness” (CHALMERS, 1996), is considered to be the greatest challenge to physicalism. Many philosophers posit this as a matter that cannot be solved, regardless of scientific progress, for it is beyond the scope of what science can find out about the world. If they are correct, the consequence is that the idea of physicalism itself fails. The paper is divided in two parts. For the first part we will deal with Chalmers’ version of the conceivability argument as well as the semantic apparatus of the two-dimensional framework required to make the appropriate link between conceivability and possibility. At the end of this we shall take a look at Kripke’s version of the conceivability argument against physicalism.

Abstract Many late medieval Aristotelians assumed that a natural substance has several substantial forms in addition to matter as really distinct parts. This assumption gave rise to a unity problem: why is a substance more than a conglomeration of all these parts? This paper discusses Francisco Suárez’s answer. It first shows that he rejected the idea that there is a plurality of forms, emphasizing instead that each substance has a single form and hence a single structuring principle. It then examines his account of the relationship between matter and form. While accepting the thesis that these two parts are really distinct entities, he claimed that there is a special “mode of union” that binds them together. With this account, he defended the essential unity of a natural substance, but he transformed the program of Aristotelian metaphysics: not substances, but entities and modes inside them, are now the basic building blocks of reality.

Abstract:
Dr. Haq’s book belongs to the same group of issue-oriented studies in Islamiceconomics that Umar Chapra’s’ books do. However, unlike Chapra, who firstprovides a critical evaluation of the failed modem economic systems and thenestablishes the supremacy of Islam’s economic development strategy, IrfanUl Haq starts out with a comprehensive expository analysis of Islamic mnomicdoctrines. He then relies on extensive personal interpretation to derive andthen justify various policy prescriptions for the promotion of economic growthin an Islamic economy. The book contains four parts, which are divided into fourteen chapters. Thefirst five chapters in the first two parts discuss Islamic methodology and Islam’ssocial and political order. The book‘s major theme is included in the third andfourth parts where the author discusses most of the economic issues and policies.Since the controversial policy-oriented economic subjects are covered inthese parts, I will concentrate on the evaluation of these major economic subjects. These subjects include the proper role of the public sector, fard al-kifayahand its implications, interest-free financing, land ownership and tenure, taxation, poverty, employment, and the policies to provide economic essentials.Fard al-Kifayah and Its Implications for Economic PolicyIn discussing the principle of fard al-kifayah and the role of the Islamic statein providing public goods, Dr. Haq advocates a policy of nationalization ofresources as an appropriate policy for an Islamic state to follow. The same policyis extended elsewhere to include price fixing and direct control of the graintrade, and by implication, of all other commercial activity. Rather than providinga justification for such a policy on economic and Islamic grounds, he carriesout his entire discussion on the assumption that big government has the capacityand the means to solve all economic problems. This thesis, in my view, contradictsthe basic economic philosophy of Islam, which incorporates private initiativeand free enterprise with a primary focus on the individual as a decisionmaker and khurifah of God on earth. The author continues to overlook the factthat equity and efficiency are not complementruy, but often competitive. Anover-emphasis on the distributional justice of Islam creates an erroneous impressionthat in the Islamic worldview, economic growth and development are relegatedto a secondary role. This is not only incorrect, but it also contradicts thevery thesis of his book. Elsewhere I have elaborated on the Qur’anic view ofman and its implications for his economic role.land Ownership and TenureIn the beginning of chapter 10, the author correctly notes that Islam allowsland accumulation without any restrictions and recommends a balanced ...

Abstract:
The study investigates whether information-seeking behavior models and theories obtained in previous research are applicable to more complex tasks. It also aims to gather students’ opinions on the importance and helpfulness of various traditional and online information sources in their thesis-writing process. This study would help to develop a better understanding of the roles and impacts of these information sources in the current networked academic infrastructure. Inspired by the Information Search Process model, we divided the process into six stages and conducted three separate surveys that covered students’ feelings, thoughts and actions, as well as other important factors that might affect their behaviors in each of the stages. Our study shows that both the feelings and thoughts of students changed during the different stages of the process, and that they were generally consistent with the descriptions in the Information Search Process model. The study indicates that it is beneficial to use the Information Search Process model as the starting point for studying the student thesis-writing processes. As the outcome of the study, we ultimately proposed a multi-stage model for Chinese undergraduate students’ thesis-writing process.

Abstract:
<p><strong>Abstract.</strong> Maps are a means of communication with their own language. This contribution makes a methodological proposal for a tool for to analyse the cartographic language of thematic maps and atlases. Based on the work of Jacques Bertin and on approaches of the Visual Studies, this methodology works on decoding maps in terms of their basic elements, the signs and graphic objects that compose them. As a tool it should allow comparative research on cartographic productions, both, synchronically and diachronically. It suggests two analytical schemes, one for maps and the other for complex map-editions, e.g. atlases.</p><p> On the example of spatial entities (state territories, natural areas etc.), the first part of this contribution introduces the semiotic analysis-scheme for thematic maps. It shows how to deal systematically with signs, signatures and graphic objects on maps. Such analyses should produce the fundament for comparative approaches, which allow to detect typical patterns in cartography and to identify elements of cartographic languages.</p><p> We are interested in the cartographic languages of maps used in atlases. To do this we have chosen a quantitative analysis of the visual content, maps, diagrams and images. The quantitative method makes it possible to analyse a large corpus of maps and atlases, thus making it possible to make comparisons between contents both diachronically and synchronically, i.e. comparisons in time and space. This is an approach relatively rarely used in cartography. There are few studies that produce a quantitative analysis of cartographic content. Among the existing ones, that of Alexandre Kent and especially that of Muelhenhaus on the Goode atlas series. We are following in the footsteps of these studies. To do this, we decided to adopt a semiological approach to the study of maps. Of course, we cannot talk about maps and semiology without mentioning Jacques Bertin and his book: graphic semiology: diagrams, networks, maps (1963) in which he tried to define a “grammar” by establishing rules of good cartographic practice, even if the book is not exclusively reduced to the map.</p><p> The book itself does not contain any reference, but it can be said that graphic semiology is itself derived from linguistic semiology, developed in particular by Ferdinand Saussure. However, although Bertin's work has influenced many cartographers in the design of maps, the method has been little used in the cartographic analysis itself. Semiology is an approach that has been used mainly in the analysis of images and diagrams rather than in cartography. Although it is true that iconographic analysis studies in semiology claim more Barthes and Saussure than Bertin.</p><p> The map can also be considered as an image. Several iconographic analysis studies have thus integrated the map as an object of study. This is the case, for example, of engelhardt who, in his <i>thesis</i> “<i>the language of graphics: a framework for the analysis of syntax and meaning in maps, charts and diagram</i>” (2002), focuses on several types of iconography, even if the map remains a central element of his analysis. Another example is the work of André Lavarde, who in his article “<i>la flèche : le signe qui anime les schémas</i>” (1996) focuses on the history of the use of the arrow in diagrams, while evoking its use in geographical maps. There are therefore bridges between iconographic and cartographic analysis.</p><p> This research is therefore a continuation of the work of Bertin, Mulhenhaus and to a certain extent Engelhardt. The coding system we have developed for our cartographic analysis is divided into three parts and divided tehemselves into several categories. Each category corresponds to a column in the table. From there, there are two ways to fill in the columns. In the first case by filling in the field with the requested information such as the title of a map. Or in a second case to enter 0; 1; or 2 depending on whether the information that corresponds to the absence, presence or uncertainty of the requested information. So if the map coded uses the Mercator projection then it will be entered 1 in the column “map projection: cylindrical projection” and 0 in the column “map projection: compromise”.</p><p> The table is composed of three parts. The first part concerns the general information of the coded map (image 1). This is for example the name of the atlas, the page, the chapter in which the map is located. Then more general information about the map itself is coded like for example its title, theme, scale, type of projection used, etc. This makes it possible to collect a set of basic data. It should be noted that, as mentioned above, we do not only code maps but also other forms of visual representations of space that can be found in atlases. For example, there are images, satellite photos or diagrams that can represent different geographical areas. If the coded object is not a map, this is specified. There is a category provided for this purpose. When coding, cartography-specific elements, such as map projection, are therefore not taken into account. Not all the columns in our table are intended to be filled by each map or coded image. The codification process is therefore flexible. Although the code does not focus only on maps, they represent the vast majority of the content of the atlases studied. This is why we refer more to the “map” rather than to the “visual representation of space”. However, even if they are in the minority, it is important in the analysis to take into account representations of space other than cartography.</p><p> The second part of the table focuses on the signs used by the maps. First of all, we have chosen to divide them into three categories: symbols that are related to the point of the line and the surface. These are the three elementary figures of geometry that Bertin calls implantations. It is from these three types of locations that the different symbols are created. We have distinguished them between the thematic symbols, which are there to illustrate the theme of the map, to convey its message and the Background symbol present to help the reader to orientate himself in space. This is the case, for example, of the equator's path, which is rarely thematic, but rather serves as a geographical point of reference. Of course, the thematic symbols vary according to the theme of the map. Thus, territorial borders can be considered thematic if it is a political map, but will be considered Background information if it is present on a map representing global forest cover. The purpose of this part is to have as much content as possible on the elements that make a map.</p><p> The third and last part of the table refers to visual variables. To be interested in visual variables is to be interested in the interactions between symbols. It is on this part that we rely most on Bertin's work. We have thus taken 5 of the 7 variables he defined. The orientation and the two dimensions of the plan were excluded from our study because they are constant in the cartographic production. It would therefore be irrelevant to record them each time. This is not the case for the remaining components: size, value, texture, shape, and colour. These are elements that may be present in cartography but are not individually necessary. These visual variables form the basic grammar of the “cartographic language”. Studying the visual variables is a way for us to observe how the different signs interact with each other and to see how an information is convey. These visual rules have been established in the 1960s, therefore it the relevance of using this framework to study historical map can be questioned. But Bertin did not design his rules from scratch, he relied on previous mapping practices. It is therefore interesting to observe how often they have been used.</p><p> The second part deals with map themes and regional structures of atlases. Using principles of Visual Studies, it suggests to observe atlases as a whole as cultural products, each subject to a visual programme that determines the frameworks of its expressions and its claim for representativeness. By comparing elements like projection, scale, maps-themes, regional sequences etc. systematically, one may unveil the specific interpretations of world views which are contained in the atlas’ concepts. As some atlases are published in a long series of editions, they become interesting research objects in an evolutionary perspective.</p><p> In a diachronic perspective the coding scheme suggested here, focussing themes and regional subdivisions of atlases, builds the fundament for longitudinal studies. Both methodological parts should make cartographic and atlas-studies more compatible to cultural and historical research approaches.</p><p> Taking the example of a few maps from French atlases from nineteen centuries to the early 2000s the second part of this contribution wants to give an idea, how this methodology can be used to study the evolution of cartographic language over time under the influence of the global condition and how French cartographers faced the challenge of representing a growing interconnected world and which graphical tools they developed.</p>

Abstract:
A transformation is underway in family and marital processes in many parts of sub-Saharan Africa. With the exception of recent research with an emphasis on childbearing issues, few researchers have analyzed these on-going developments. Using Ghana as a case study, this article examines the context of mate selection among men and women. We also compare the effect of structural as opposed to cultural factors on contemporary mate selection patterns. Findings from our analysis indicate an increasing propensity for Africans to self-select their partners. At the same time, women are more likely than men to consider the family’s input in selecting their partners. Individual reports and concordance in couples’ replies reflect this observation. Our overall results support the thesis that worldwide family processes in Africa may be converging to patterns in other parts of the world.

Abstract:
The liturgical texts of the Church Slavonic sacramentaries (Kiev Leaflets, Vienna Leaflets, Sinai missal Sin. Slav. 5N and others) from the early stages of the Slavic liturgy (9th to 14th century) with its textological and euchological content mostly belong to the Roman rite. These texts are euchological texts with proper liturgical function: texts are written and arranged for the celebration of the Mass and they are preserved in the liturgical book called sacramentary. The medieval Latin liturgical textological tradition is divided into two branches: Gelasian and Gregorian, which formed a unique textological tradition in parts of Northern Italy and Transalpine countries (from Aquileia to Salzburg) establishing a new textological tradition known as the »Gelasianized-Gregorian Sacramentary«, which was used in the mentioned parts of Central Europe. Based on the research of the history of Old Church Slavonic liturgy and historical and comparative analysis of Latin and Church Slavonic texts, mostly conducted for the doctoral thesis entitled Historical and liturgical peculiarities of the early stages of the Slavonic liturgy, this study presents influences of Latin liturgical textological tradition from Central Europe on the oldest Church Slavonic translations of sacramentaries from 9th to 14th century and other liturgical texts, mainly euchological, which continued to exist in the Croatian Glagolitic tradition even after the liturgical reform at the end of the 13th century.

Abstract:
The thesis of this paper is that despite the so-called breakthrough in the study of International Relations following the behavioral revolution of the 1960s, this field is still Anglo-saxon, particularly American-centered. The paper's emphasis then is on the widening of International Relations as a field of analysis and the bringing in of differing approaches so that this field becomes truly universal as its name indicates. To review the evolution of this field, the paper is divided into two main parts of unequal length. The short part one review s Kuhn's scheme concerning the different stages in the evolution of science. The long part two applies this scheme to the study of International Relations and characterizes it as in a state of crisis, because of its lack of a consensual paradigm to guide analysis and research. It emphasises that the division between schools is not only methodological, but especially epistemological and ideological. Consequently, the paper analyses in detail the different arguments of four schools : Realism, Behavioralism, Marxism, and Neo-Marxism and Dependencia.
