Abstract:
Understanding the scientific and social structure of a discipline is a fundamental aspect for scientific evaluation processes, identifying trends and niches, and balancing the trade-off between exploitation and exploration in research. In the present contribution, the production of doctoral theses is used as a proxy to analyze the scientific structure of the knowledge area of business organization in Spain. To that end, a complex networks approach is selected, and two different networks are built: (i) the social network of co-participation in thesis examining committees and thesis supervision, and (ii) a bipartite network of theses and thesis descriptors. The former has a modular structure that is partially explained by thematic specialization in different subdisciplines. The latter serves to assess the interdisciplinary structure of the discipline, as it enables the characterization of affinity levels between fields, research poles and thematic clusters. Our results have implications for the scientific evaluation and formal definition of related fields.

Abstract: The amount of data managed in many academic institutions has increased in recent years, particularly in all the research work done by undergraduate students, who simply use empirical techniques for keyword selection, forgetting existing technical methods to assist their students in this process. Information and communication technologies, such as the platform for integrated research and academic work with responsibility (PILAR), which records information about research projects, such as titles, summaries, and keywords in their various modalities, have gained relevance and importance in the management of these. We proved algorithms with these records of research projects that have been analysed in this study, and predictions were made for each of the nine (09) models of unsupervised machine learning algorithms that were implemented for each of the 7430 records from the dataset. The most efficient way of extracting keywords for this dataset was the TF-IDF method, obtaining 72% accuracy and [0.4786, SD 0.0501] in average extraction time for each thesis file processed by this model. Abstract: Mobile networks' energy consumption is rising in tandem with the volume of traffic and the number of people utilising mobile technology. To maintain the long-term survival of the next generation of mobile networks, there must be an emphasis on energy efficiency. By minimising the network's power consumption and proposing an energy-efficient network architecture, this thesis addresses the issue of increasing 5G and beyond network efficiency. The first component of this thesis focuses on base stations (BSs), the most energy-intensive part of mobile networks. Mobile network providers offer us with a data set that contains information on the amount of traffic on their system. The poor temporal granularity of mobile network traffic data makes it difficult to train ML systems for sleep mode management choices. Bursty arrivals are taken into consideration while generating mobile network traffic statistics.
