Abstract:
The annual number of completed theses which can be reasonably described as having urban themes has remained quite steady in recent years. In the lists of the Institute of Historical Research, for example, it is possible to identify 58 theses as having urban themes in the return for 1985, 41 theses in the 1986 return and 50 theses in that for 1987. It is true that in many cases such theses are not written as contributions to urban history specifically, but nevertheless they can provide much useful information and new insights on urban processes and town life even when the urban aspect of the study is incidental to the main theme. This is especially true of the selection made for this year's review which focuses more than usually on theses concerned directly or indirectly with aspects of urban society and politics in the past, and with a particular emphasis on the history of the urban working class. The review covers mostly theses completed in 1986–7 with some late additions from earlier years. It is based necessarily on the abstracts except for about a third of the theses noticed where it has been possible to examine the text. However, the aim of the review is to indicate the interest which a thesis might have for urban historians rather than to give a comprehensive assessment – which is probablynappropriate for unpublished work.

Abstract This study documents a large number of Masters theses written by students of the International Islamic Universtiy Malaysia over 19 years, from 1998 to 2016. A total of 282 Masters theses were written in the Arabic language during the aforementioned period. The main themes covered in the theses were identified by the researchers. The jurisprudence of transactions and Islamic finance were the two most prominent themes, with 87 theses written (30% of all theses written in the 19 year period). Family jurisprudence came in second place, with 63 theses (22% of all theses), followed in third place by Usuli studies and juristic maxims, which were the main themes for 44 theses (15%). The fourth major theme was found to be crime and ÍudËd, with 23 theses written. The four aforementioned themes accounted for 75% of all Arabic Masters theses written between 1998 and 2016. Due to time and other constraints, the researchers were unable to carry out a comprehensive review of all theses written; instead, the researchers focused on a total of 81 Masters theses written on the Jurisprudence of Transactions (40 theses), and Islamic finance (41 theses) written between 1998 and 2010. The aforementioned theses represented 49% of all theses written in the 12 year period. Emphasizing the importance of University theses during the process of writing literature reviews is an established norm that is attributed to the fact that such theses represent the latest developments in research. This study is expected to help future researchers locate relevant literature in the form of Masters theses, and consequently carryout effective literature reviews. This inductive study does not represent a comprehensive review of all theses written between 1998 and 2010. However, the researchers managed to document all theses written in the two aforementioned themes during the 12 year period. Key words: Masters thesis, research trends, jurisprudence of transactions, Islamic finance, family jurisprudence.

Abstract:
The Bachelor's program in Early Childhood Islamic Education (PIAUD) at UIN Saizu Purwokerto was established in 2014. Student theses for the PIAUD program began appearing in the UIN Saizu repository in 2018. The research objective is to describe the research trends in the theses of PIAUD students at UIN Saizu Purwokerto from 2018 to 2022. This study is done using a quantitative approach through bibliometric analysis. The application used for data mining is Zotero, and data visualization is carried out using VOSviewer version 1.6.18. The thesis data source is from repository.uinsaizu.ac.id, with a total of 272 theses processed. The research results indicate that the trends in the themes of the theses by PIAUD students at UIN Saizu Purwokerto from 2018 to 2022 align with the program's focus, revolving around early childhood themes, optimization, and creativity development. Four (4) clusters were formed. No words or phrases indicating a concentration on Islamic Education were observed in the titles of the theses by PIAUD students at UIN Saizu Purwokerto. However, one word in the cluster indicates an Islamic theme, which is the word "RA" (Raudhatul Athfal), representing Islamic educational institutions at the early childhood level.

Abstract:
Different critical positions have emerged around the restructuring of space in postmodernity. I consider two sets of literature: the sceptical thesis (theses) of the ‘ageographia’ in Sorkin's edited collection Variations on a Theme Park and Foucault's affirmative thesis (theses) of the ‘heterotopia‘. These authors' works relate to a number of themes relevant to this paper: democratic public space, public space (comparing Canada and the USA) and its demise, spatial utopias, and the public library as public space and as ‘other’ space. Vancouver's newest civic landmark, the Vancouver Public Library, provides an illustrative case study with both ageographic and heterotopic qualities.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to review the postgraduate theses on science/physics education in Turkey to guide the teaching of the sound concept. Although the theses examined within the scope of this study belong to a certain region, the previous literature shows us that the learning difficulties/misconceptions are generally independent of culture. Thirty-three theses in the database of The Council of Higher Education Thesis Center were analyzed inductively in the semi-systematic review process. For this, the stages of content analyses were used: Elimination and coding, placing them in themes, ensuring reliability and validity were followed respectively. Unit of analyses was conclusions of the theses and suggestions of the theses. In conclusion, both conventional and contemporary approaches have a positive effect on achievement or conceptual change on the sound concept. On the other hand, students and teachers/ candidates, in general, cannot relate their knowledge of sound to daily life, their level of knowledge is inadequate, and they have misconceptions/errors and confusions. It is beneficial to consider this situation in education. The most important output of this study is the lists of possible misconceptions or confusion about the concept of sound. Teachers and researchers can use these lists in their lessons or research. Keywords: education, physics, science, sound, thesis

Abstract:
Ten years ago, conceptual history was still relatively unknown in Chinese academic circles. But within just a single decade, it has already emerged as a very popular field among scholars. When broaching conceptual history, the first thing to make clear is that, whether we’re speaking of a research field or a methodology, this is a scholarly tradition rooted in Germany. Hence, if we are to apply conceptual historical methods to China and carry out transcultural conceptual historical research here, we must understand the basic connotations of conceptual history. Reinhart Koselleck’s introduction to 8 volumes of Basic Concepts of History: An Historical Lexicon of Political and Social Terms in Germany (Geschichtliche Grundbegriffe: historisches Lexikon zur politisch-sozialen Sprache in Deutschland) is an essential text in conceptual history (1972, Bd.1). In this work, Koselleck proposes three These (theses) for conceptual history: concepts are historical, criteria for the “four changes” of basic historical concepts, and the “saddle period.”

Abstract:
Objective: Production of a thesis during residency requires a great deal of dedication and effort. It is an honor to share the results of this effort with everyone when the thesis is published. In this study, we aimed to investigate the factors affecting the publication of a thesis in the field of urology. Methods: Theses completed between 2014 and 2018 were searched in the Institution of Higher Education Thesis Center. Keywords, title, and authors on the thesis were searched in the PubMed and Google Scholar databases. Journal tags were categorized according to whether they are indexed in Medline or not. Publication status was analyzed with the subject of the thesis, the year of thesis was completed, hospital where urology residents graduated, and the current workplace of the urologists. Results: Three hundred and fifty-three theses were analyzed in this study. The number of theses that were published in index journals and non-index journals was 65 (18.4) and 15 (4.2%), respectively. The median citation for published theses was 2 (0-21). The subject of the thesis, time passed after the thesis, and the current workplace of urologist was found to be statistically significant in the publication status of the theses (p<0.001, p= 0.02, p<0.001, respectively). Conclusion: Most of the theses produced by urologists were not published. Published theses received few citations. Theses produced from animal studies and a long period passed over the thesis increase the rate of publication. Urologists whose theses have been published mostly work in tertiary care hospitals.

The purpose of this study was to find out how to manage the gray literature collection, both theses, theses and dissertations at the UIN Raden Fatah Palembang Library. The method used in this article is a qualitative method with a case study approach, with the technique of collecting observations and literature sources. The results of this article show the management of the gray literature collection (thesis, thesis and dissertation) at the UIN Raden Fatah Palembang Library. Where in the thesis library, theses and accompanied by alumni students or students who have just distributed theses, theses and dissertations must be managed first so that information retrieval for students who need references can be easily found. And the management of the gray literature collection has been carried out with the available resources, and the management system is structured from tasting, recording, class, inputting, labeling and giving colors according to the presentation and placement of theses, theses and dissertations according to the shelves of each study program. However, the management still needs improvement in several aspects, such as facilities such as lacking library shelves, networks and chips to detect if the thesis is taken or stolen.

Abstract:
Thesis is a prerequisite for graduation in all academic institutions. Higher Education institutions, such as Imam Bonjol Islamic State Institute requires its students to write a thesis in order to graduate. Students write their theses and they were examined before the board of examiners. However, students found it difficult to write ‘good’ theses that show academic honesty and high level of originality. This is a big issue in our institution, this article, therefore examines factors that reduce originality of students’ theses. Having analysed over 10 theses using content analysis method, the authors found that almost all theses contain issues that reduces the originality of the theses. Students frequently commit structural plagiarism, in which they tend to follow the structure of their colleagues’ theses, and only made minor changes. Other finding showed that in stating their research problem, students make a claim without appropriate justification. Issues of referencing and paraphrasing are two important issues that reduce qualities of students’ theses.

Abstract:
The research seeks to examine the theses on peer relations completed between 2000 and 2021 in the field of preschool education in Turkey. The sample of the research consists of 63 master’s and doctoral theses on peer relations, completed between 2000 and 2021 in the field of preschool education and registered in the The Council of Higher Education (YÖK) National Thesis Center. A qualitative method was employed in the study. The results demonstrated that the first master’s thesis was completed in 2009, and the first doctoral thesis was completed in 2008. Additionally, at the master's and doctoral levels, quantitative research was found to be the most preferred research method, while mixed research methods were found to be the least preferred. Further, the relational method was found to be the most preferred among quantitative research design methods in master's theses, and survey and experimental methods were preferred in doctoral theses. The results also revealed that qualitative case study methodology was the most preferred method in master’s and doctoral theses. In terms of data collection time, the cross-sectional method was most frequently preferred in master’s and doctoral theses. As to the sample group, it was seen that the theses on preschool children were the most preferred in master’s and doctoral theses. While peer relationships of children with special needs were the most frequently discussed topic in master's theses, doctoral theses revolved around curriculum development.

Abstract:
Generalized analysis of 427 Russian dissertation researches in the specialty 14.03.10 (14.00.46) «Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics» over the period of 2000-2013 is presented. Currently complete author’s abstracts can be remotely accessed at official sites of institutions with Thesis Boards (since 2007) and at the site of State Commission for Academic Degrees and Titles, Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation (for Doctoral theses – since 2007, for Candidate’s theses – since April 2012). Thesis materials for the year 2013 don’t full in libraries, so the collection of 407 theses for the period of 2000–2012 was used for comparison. In thesis e-library of the Russian State Library 238 theses are digitized, or 55.2% of works total collection in the field of clinical laboratory diagnostics, in e-library of the Russian National Library – 331 author’s abstracts or 81.5 %. The digitized theses materials can be accessed free of charge in libraries reading halls, remote access can be provided for a fee. To optimize information support to scientific research there is a necessity to create in Russia a common theses database at Research Electronic Library, to organize a national subscription to digitized theses materials, and to coordinate the fields of documents scanning. Digitized theses database allows remote access, as well for foreign users. For integration into the world research community one should provide English abstract of the thesis (max. 250–300 characters) on the last page of the author’s abstract.

Abstract:
This research aimed to investigate the relevance between the literature reviews and the research questions of the theses written by the students who graduated in 2019 from seven study programs in STKIP PGRI Sumatera Barat. The research design was qualitative research which focused on describing, explaining, and exploring the students’ thesis writings, whether the literature reviews described were relevant to their research questions. Purposive sampling was the technique used to select the data that consisted of 13 students’ theses. This research focused on those 13 theses because they were written in a qualitative method, which showed the relevance between research questions and the literature review. Here, content analysis was used to analyze the data to show whether the literature review of each thesis discusses the relevant theories to answer the research questions. The result showed that among 13 students’ theses, 6 theses were relevant, and 7 were irrelevant. It means that more students had written with irrelevant theories. It can be suggested to the thesis advisors to give more attention to the quality of students’ theses because the irrelevance can interfere with the qualities of their theses.

Abstract:
The aim of the study is to investigate and compare the factors affecting publication rates of otorhinolaryngology (ORL) theses and plastic and reconstructive surgery (PRS) theses. In order to examine ORL and PRS specialization theses published between 2013 and 2017, the author scanned the Council of Higher Education Thesis Center’s browsing system that contains a list of all published theses for the terms “ear, nose, and throat” and “plastic and reconstructive surgery”. All accessible theses (in total, 689), including 454 ORL and 235 PRS theses were included in the study. Most ORL and PRS theses authors were male (72.5% and 84.3%, respectively). Most of the ORL theses were conducted in state universities (76.9%), whereas most of the PRS theses were conducted in public universities (87.2%). More than half (50.9%) of the ORL advisors were professor doctors, compared to 46.3% of the PRS advisors. Most of the ORL studies were clinical studies (81.7%), while 74.9% of the PRS studies were experimental animal studies. In total, 24.5% of the ORL theses were published, and 29.7% of them were accepted in SCI- indexed journals. In comparison, a total of 19.6% of the PRS theses were published. The publication rates of experimental PRS and ORL studies were significantly higher than clinical studies. In order to increase the quality of medical theses and to publish them in scientific journals, the frequency of thesis production should be increased and that the factors affecting publication rates should be carefully examined, monitored, and improved.

Abstract:
Da'wah and gender research has been carried out before, but focusing on gender research and da'wah higher education is still very limited. This study aims to analyze the theme of gender in the thesis work of students of the Faculty of Da'wah and Communication Sciences, Sheikh Ali Hasan Addary State Islamic University, Padangsidimpuan. The method used is a documentation study with a systematic literature review to analyze gender themes contained in student thesis documents. Documents used as data sources are limited to the period of publication years, starting from 2018 to 2022. The results found that gender issues are still very limited to student theses in the last five years. Analysis of 592 FDIK theses found that none of the theses used the word gender, only 18 theses used the word gender in the text, one thesis used gender as the main theory, and one other thesis contained gender as a sub-section of discussion. Varied gender terms are only found in theses that use gender theory. The dominant keywords as representations of gender themes are roles, wives, women, women, and adolescents. This study recommends to the Faculty of Da'wah and Communication Sciences to provide knowledge and skills that can build gender awareness for students, and direct student thesis research for gender issues.

Abstract:
In the 21st century, The importance of the issue of global citizenship has increased and has become necessary due to cyclical reasons. For this reason, it was considered important to conduct research on the subject. The aim of this study is to determine the research trends in postgraduate theses on global citizenship in Turkey and to contribute to the researchers to produce original studies by giving ideas about new research. It was carried out in the meta-synthesis model within the scope of the qualitative research method. The research universe consists of a total of 21 theses, 16 master's and 5 doctorate, on the subject of global citizenship in the database of the YÖK National Thesis Center. Since all theses were accessed, sampling was not carried out. In the theses within the scope of the research, no distinction was made between years and branches. The database was scanned with the keywords "Global citizenship, world citizenship". All theses related to the subject; The year of publication of the thesis and the type of thesis, department, original language, theme, method, model, study group, data collection tool and data analysis variables were examined. The thesis classification form developed by the researcher was used as a data collection tool. The obtained data were analyzed by content analysis. The reliability / agreement percentage of the study was found to be .85. As a result of the research, it was determined that the most postgraduate theses were completed in 2015 and 2019, the social studies and classroom teaching departments were prominent in the theses, the theses were mostly master's thesis, and the thesis themes focus on determining a relationship with a variable, determining opinions, perceptions and attitudes. In addition, when we look at the methodological features of the theses; It was seen the most that the quantitative research method, the scanning model of the design, the teachers and pre-service teachers of the study group, the scale of the data collection tool and the statistical analysis of the data analysis. In the light of these findings, It can be recommended to increase doctorate studies and increase qualitative studies on global citizenship.

Kos, Denis, and Mihaela Banek Zorica. "What Can Student Theses Tell Us About the Educational Role of School Libraries in Croatia? A Thematic Content Analysis." IASL Annual Conference Proceedings, December 3, 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.29173/iasl8770.

Full text
Abstract:
This study examines Croatian LIS student theses, particularly those in school librarianship. These theses often discuss various educational interventions in school libraries. Using quantitative and qualitative methods, the research identifies prevalent themes, educational interventions, and the influence of non-LIS faculty departments on school librarianship. The findings show that most theses focus on school libraries during graduate studies, reflecting students' growing interest in the field. Since 2016, there has been a steady rise in the number of school library-related theses. Mentorship patterns indicate that mentors primarily come from theChair of Librarianship within the same department, and interdisciplinary collaborations are infrequent. Theses commonly emphasize presenting the work of school library institutions, but few detail specific educational interventions. Common methodologies include practice reviews and surveys, with prevalent themes focusing on information literacy, reading habits, and services for minorities. However, the study reveals limitations, with theses often lacking depth in reporting students' authentic experiences as teacher librarians. This underscores the need to improve reporting on educational interventions and encourage practical engagement. Enhancing the quality of reporting through narrative and reflective writing, qualitative research methods, and data analysis is recommended. In conclusion, the study provides valuable insights into Croatian student theses related to school librarianship. The findings can inform future thesis topics and mentorship decisions in the school librarianship field.

Abstract:
This study was conducted to analyze postgraduate theses in the field of environmental education in preschool education in Turkey between 2011 and 2020 in terms of their distribution, levels (doctorate, master’s), sample groups, and data collection tools. To establish the theses written in the field, the Higher Education Council National Thesis Centre database was reviewed on April 16th, 2020. Care was taken to determine postgraduate theses according to the criteria of having been conducted on environmental education with preschool children, preschool teachers/prospective preschool teachers and families, having been conducted on the subject area of education and training, having been registered to YÖK National Thesis Centre with permission for access. In line with these criteria, a total of 12 postgraduate theses were included in the study. The data were accessed using the document analysis technique. Detailed information about the postgraduate theses was collected using a “Postgraduate Thesis Examination Form.” Postgraduate theses included in the study were examined under the headings of thesis year, thesis type, objective, study group, methods, and designs, and data collection tools and frequency (f) were used in the analysis of data. When the distribution of postgraduate theses studies was conducted in terms of thesis type, it was found that the number of masters’ theses (n=8) was much higher than the number of doctoral theses (n=4), there was a large increase in the number of theses in 2015, the theses were mostly doctoral (n=3), and children mostly featured in the postgraduate thesis studies conducted within the specified dates..
