Full textThis research investigates new curatorial strategies for exhibiting digital artworks in physical exhibition spaces, with the term “digital art” referring to artistic projects that make creative and critical use of technologies such as algorithmic programming, virtual or augmented reality, robotics, the use of data, and new forms of image creation and distribution. In a world where digital tools are a structuring condition of life in society and of all cultural production (Stalder 2016), digital art represents a powerful means of understanding our present time and our future (Ertan 2016). It can offer alternative approaches and narratives to the dominant uses of technology, highly influenced by globalized capitalism. The art institution can also be a unique place to reflect on the predominant influence of technological devices on our lives and thought processes. Despite the fact that these digital works now occupy an important place in the contemporary art world and can claim a certain historicity (Paul 2016), there is little research into the new exhibition modalities experimented with these works and the way in which digital art prompts us to rethink the exhibitions (Dekker 2021). The upheavals wrought by digital technology are transforming the way works are produced and exhibited. New curatorial strategies have been experimented with, and existing modalities adapted to these different forms of artistic practice. By illustrating how these exhibitions both diverge from and simultaneously build upon existing exhibition theory and practice, this thesis aims to intricately examine how artworks utilizing digital technologies are transforming the ways in which we think about and build exhibitions. What new curatorial strategies have emerged based on the interactivity, variability, and technical materiality of the works? How are the links between artist, exhibition space, work, and viewer articulated in these new exhibition paradigms? How do artworks evolve over time, and how do they adapt to different exhibition spaces?Annet Dekker, Curating Digital Art: From Presenting and Collecting Digital Art to Networked Co-curation, Amsterdam, Valiz, 2021. Piscoci, Gheorghe. "Théorie et pratique communistes." Paris 4, 1986. http://www.theses.fr/1986PA040126.
Full textThe history of communism is the history of a process of dogmatic crystallization. This means mainly that, beyond its acceptance or denial by any community whatsoever, dogma has a certain epistemological structure. Generally speaking this dogmatic crystallization belongs to history as a whole; only the peoples who defend their dogma are able to affirm themselves. Man has a profoundly dogmatic constitution that may be designated by the notion of "style" or "stylistic matrix". It is convenient to put parallel this notion with the table of Kantian categories, in this way Kant’s famous antinomies could be passed; as man does not find his purpose in nature, one cannot conclude that he finds it in himself. We analyze some aspects of man's attempt to find a purpose in himself through the "utopian spirit and the communist spirit". When facing this attempt, reality seems to be in a state of rebellion, perspective that brings new light to the classical concepts of communism: proletariat, proletarian messianism, revolution, etc. Since it conceives of concrete as rebellions, communism cannot help leading to a new religions attempt. One cannot nevertheless say that it is a religion, although it evolved from an initial "egolatry" to the idolatry of the "personality cult". The possibility of a "communist religion" cannot be excluded in the future. Dogmatic reinforcement and certain displacements of the sacred prove that communism is well engaged in this way. On one hand it has all the chances to subject mankind and, on the other hand, if man cannot become a new man he can, in exchange, rejoin animality. Man's advent (Marx) becomes his annihilation; revolution proves to be an ontological impossibility. Whatever it does, animal remains the same. Man is the only being who can miss himself. We intend to continue this study with the analysis of the communist state, economy, democracy and culture

Full textThe intervention of a judge to give the casting vote in labor proceedings (labor "departage") is born at the beginning of the twentieth century from a bargaining between the government and the Employers Unions. This method is structured by a bunch of law rules, coming from the Statutes and Judiciary Precedents. It allows, in all circumstances, to guarantee the respect of the principle of equality between employers and employees and, in the meantime, to maintain the continuity of the proceedings. The powers of the judge casting the vote are not he same according to the composition of the sitting members of the Court. From three hypotheses and by studying 2 482 cases held the Paris employment tribunal (1998-2002), we analyze the machinery of the labor departage by inserting the quantitative analysis in a theory. The risk of an equal repartition of the votes is on all the proceedings, but sometimes dysfunctions appear. The aim of this thesis is to try to elaborate a theory from the cases and the customs, proposing by the same way practical issues

Although he started more than twenty opera before abandoning projects Dukas has composed one opera Ariane et Barbe-Bleue.The apparent paradox between the number of chronicles which denotes a constant concern of the composer for the opera, and unique Ariane et Barbe-Bleue opera raises questions about the place of opera in Dukas. Thus it is vital to understand the intellectual process that led the composer to this work. What do the critics of his own theories of opera? What interactions are there between his writings and compositions? What reveal the lyrical projects on his aesthetic positions? Ariane et Barbe-Bleue is the synthetic reflection of his writings and ideas? This work is primarily concerned with aesthetic positions Dukas on lyrical music from the sources of Wagnerian art to critical contemporary works. The views emerged are compared with the analysis of abandoned opera and the study of its unique lyrical work : Ariane et Barbe-Bleue

Full textIn this doctor thesis, entitled “Securitisation Under Lithuanian Law: Theory and Practice”, the phenomenon of securitisation is analysed in respect of Lithuanian law. In order to identify the place of the phenomenon of securitisation within the legalsystem of Lithuania, firstly the state of development of the financial law and its autonomy with respect to other branches of law, such as civil law and public finance law, were analysed. The research revealed that despite the presence of importantelements, proving the autonomy of the financial law, its complete autonomy is note yet achieved. This is basically due to the absence of clarity as to the limits between the financial law and the civil law. As securitisation is not specifically regulated bythe Lithuanian law, it was qualified as a group of related contracts – phenomenon of the civil law. After qualifying of securitisation as a group of related contracts, the structure, limits and contents of such group of related contracts were identified. Further studies revealed the effects that such qualification could make on the contracts of the securitisation transaction. In particular, the effects of such qualification among related contracts and the “distinct contractors” were analysed. The second part of the study was dedicated to the practical issues of the realisation of the operations of securitisation of the SMEs' assets in Lithuania. It was demonstrated that it would be possible to put in place operations of securitisation of the SMEs' assets in the frame of existing legal regulations in Lithuania. However, such operations would be heavily restricted by the regulatory framework, which is not adapted to such type of legal-financial transactions. Relevant propositions regarding the amendments of the Lithuanian legal framework were made

Full textThis thesis presents an investigation on the history of temporary art exhibitions at the Galeries nationales du Grand Palais (GNGP) between 1966 and 2005. The analysis of the historical, political and socialistic background and the international artistic policy of France show that the government has played a central role in the development of art exhibitions at the GNGP : the government has encouraged and institutionalized art exhibitions as one of its cultural policy. These exhibitions were mostly planned by three public institutions; Réunion des Musées Nationaux (RMN), Association française d’Action artistique, and the institution for contemporary arts. Each exhibition named as a major representation has been taken place for the commemoration and the presentation of friendly diplomatic relations with foreign countries. Some exhibitions announced academic achievements in art history and outcomes of museum and cultural heritage policies. The enhancement policy of the cultural exchange with foreign museums has led to the internationalization of artexhibitions, and the development of the RMN specialized for the planning of international art exhibitions. This policyalso contributes to the art history research development through the academic collaboration with foreign museums. These grand exhibitions that took place at the GNGP have contributed to make the GNGP as a major cultural institution in the centre of capital city, comparable to other main museums of Paris. This works also discusses the introduction of management for running exhibitions at the GNGP. First, this management included the systematic care and presentationof collections, then the funding of exhibitions and even more the reception of visitors. Moreover, during these years, there has arisen a professionalization of jobs related to art exhibition planning and operation. This thesis presents the development of grand art exhibitions organised in the frame of the public administrations, public audiences for fine arts exhibition, and also allows the understanding of the development of the temporary museum exhibitions held in thesecond half of the twentieth century

The bo is part of the African culture in general and part of bonese culture in particular. Is the bo an object of science or of beliefe? To make it an object of science we will try to elaborate its definition, gensis and typology. This typology will help us to understand how the bonese determines his s social relationship full of hatred, jealousy and hope for self control. Then the bo has a social dimension shown in the names borne by persons, names called in fon "bonyko". " The antropology is daughter of anthroponimy and patronimy. Although it has god as source of its officiency, the bo is not a religion; it is rather a power of adaptation to the nature, a meens of domination. Full textIn the field of multi-agent systems, most of researches on the indivisible ressources allocation focus on the centralized problem (combinatorial auctions). To tackle this problem, we propose to use a distributed decision making coupled with negotiations between agents. The objective is to analyze the allocations reached at the end of these negotiations and more particularly with their social welfare. This study is conduced in a restricted, but very realistic, bilateral exchanges framework, where agents are selfish and rational. In the first part of the work , we present : (i) the compact representations of the preferences and the different types of utility functions, and (ii) the study of the omplexity of reaching the social welfare. Since the allocation should be both effective and equitable, in the second part of the work we focus on the egalitarianism problem in the selfish agents society. Specifically, we are concerned with different egalitarian social welfare, in respect to two points : (i) egalitarian social welfare, and (ii) envy-free. Knowing that the rational individual exchanges framework are well adopted to get the utilitarian social well fare, then two important questions should be addressed. First, up to what point these exchanges or transactions make it possible to reach or approach an egalitarian optimum? Second, what happen regarding envy? These two points will be discussed in this thesis
Xiao, Qi. "Kojève : la théorie et la pratique de l'action." Thesis, Paris 1, 2013. http://www.theses.fr/2013PA010648.
Full text"Action" is a key word in Kojève's thought. According to him, being is action, being is negativity. And the whole human history is a history of struggle between masters and slaves. Kojève's interpretation of Hegel has embodied also the existential anxieties in the French intelligentsia in the 1930s between the two world wars and catered for the curiosities of the French elites about the Marxism after the Russian revolution, thus produced profound influences. Following Hegel, Kojève refuses the simple dichotomy of the action and the thinking. He believes that the concept equals the time, the verity develops in the history and cannot be achieved without action. For Kojève, the most superior good is the absolute knowledge, or wisdom, or the sum of all the verities, and can appear automatically in the end of the history. This adds such a meaning of essentialism for Kojève's philosophy of action. The political aspect of Kojève's theory of action is a natural extension of his philosophy of action, and it seems more Marxist in a sense. Since the verity cannot be attained at one stroke, Kojève has corrected his theories in his philosophical and political practices. For example, he has swinged several times between the west and the east in anticipating the orientation of the historical development, and has discovered in Japan a development road differing from the Americanization. Another example, his judgment to the political decolonization in France has changed greatly. Here reflects the practical wisdom which is more directly related to the action. Kojève's assertion of the negativity doesn't le ad him to Bataille's "eternal negativity". His "absolute knowledge" clashes essentially with Aron's "finiteness of the objectivity of history». But these conflicts will also help us to better understand the debates concerning the practice in the French intelligentsia after the war
Longhitano, Valerio. "John Law : théorie et pratique de la monnaie." Paris 8, 2013. http://octaviana.fr/document/18110492X#?c=0&m=0&s=0&cv=0.
Full textThe monetary theory of John Law is one thats responds to the requirement of full employment. This paper considers, first of all, how he is viewed in the literature. The followers of De La Mothe have been disregarded in favour of the debates that lasted three centuries about John Law as an economist and a reformer. The picture emerges of Law being held in scant regard in liberal circles (after Smith and Daire) and appreciated among the French democrats and socialists of the 19th century. His veneration by James Steuart led to his insertion in a heterodox current of political economy leading to John Maynard Keynes. Law envisages a completely new kind of money that is not a commodity, more suitable as tool to measure value (because of its invariability) and more able (for the ease of its emission) to respond to the needs of production and employment. Money as an inherent part of economic activity, which pays no costs to mine-owning countries, is able to compete with metallic money, and also to be a substitute for it. Paper money has the same guarantees as metallic money. When, in England and Scotland, land banks were being discussed about, such guarantees were located in land, and later extended to every flow of wealth which it made possible. Money which, by its abundance, would have the task of keeping down the interest rate, lightening the load of usury on the state and on producers. A project which Law will try to perfect in France: in a society of "rente seekers", disposed to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the new system, but completely unwilling to accept an order whose aim was to produce their euthanasia

Full textThis thesis presents a theory and experimentation about a pedagogy of musical creation: "expression through sounds". Theoretical part (volume 1): the didactics of "expression through sounds" is defined as creative dynamics. Theories stress antagonism between these dynamics as a "natural drive" and musical structuration. The interrogation offers the identification of the factors brought into play to resolve this antagonism in a situation of "expression through sounds". Using a conception in psycho-analytic terms of sublimation, the research hypothesis defines these factors through a process of repetition with its narcissistic connections. Methodological part (volume 2 with appendix in volume 3): the observation of two classes practicing "expression through sounds" confirms the hypothesis by numbering repetitions in the musical structures produced. Moreover, the basic processes of rhetoric appear in the repetitions studied at that time

With the purpose of tackling the proximity and the distance between the construction of curatorial theory on one hand, and on the other, curatorial practice as determined by a set of rules and processes decided by a disciplinary and professional community. The notion of the curatorial field is approached through various sociological and philosophical concepts that lead us to deepen our inquiry about writing to a concrete field of exhibitions. Selected historical cases allow us to address the issue of written traces left by an exhibition; equally important, we examine certain problems related to the construction of the history of art events in contemporary art. The last part of this research is devoted to the question of discursive strategies of positioning by curators, starting with publications that first appear in the 1990s. These discursive forms, among others, constitute the foundation of teaching in recent curatorial training

Full textThe semiotics' dimensions of translation and its problems have become the centre of interest of the researchers and experts since the fifty last years. This thesis tries to benefit from progress report of the schools and tendencies which govern the act of translation. The relationship between the theory and the practice makes it possible to understand the operation of the theory in practice, from which is the following postulate can be obtained: it is impossible to make the practice apart from the theory. It is necessary for that to strip a long essay and to hold some examples which will allow us to have an interesting idea about the transmission of the original meaning of Naguib Mahfouz's novel entitled "Comes the night". Our work is composed of four parts. In the first part which is entitled "Theories of the translation", we will approach three theories which deal with the problems of translation. The second part, "the new fields of the translated communication", approaches the usage of the oral and written translation the same time. In the third part, an analytical study will be dedicated in the passing of the theory to the practice. We will discuss the fourth and last part to the restrictions and limits of the translation

There are two aims : protecting european borders aginst imports and helping the sale of european products in foreign countries. To achieve the first aim, the e. E. C. Resorts to custom duties, and, above all, to import levies ; to achieve the second aim, il resorts to export refunds. This sluite-gate system at the borders is completed by an administrative measure of control (import or export certificate) and a safety device (saving clauses) to be used if necessary. However, the system has always been threatened. The first threat comes from western countries. The u. S. A. Criticizes e. E. C. 's policy, submitting the matter to g. A. T. T. 's rule, and great-britain claims for an adaptation because of the cost of this policy, and because london wants to preserve its preferential relationship with commonwealth countries. The second threat comes from south countries. The e. E. C. Has allowed many tariff reductions (generalized preferences, lome convention, mediterranean policy). It often uses its export refunds to supplement of food aid as weel. These adjustments are not sufficient to make common policy ready to answer the international trade requirements. A whole reform seems to be necessary. Above all, the e. E. C. Must alter its relationship with third world countries and prepare an altogether new and really community-minded export policy

Full textWe elaborate a practical theory of the sense against the authority of the philosophy actualized in the “ Pre-dicat”. This neologism is intended for describe the invariable structure of the philosophical sense in which the contrary terms arrive at a conclusion. Nevertheless, we have no intention to destroy the Pre-dicat. Because the Pre-dicat, considered as our object, has a triple status: as occasional cause, as material, and as symbolic support. Without this status, our theory can't be a practical theory. On the contrary, it is a question of transform the Pre-dicat, of make it work otherwise. In the first chapters, we proceed with studies, which are still philosophical, devoted to Edmund Husserl (German philosopher, 1859-1938), Martin Heidegger (German philosopher, 1889-1976), Emmanuel Lévinas (French philosopher, 1906-1995), à Jacques Derrida (French philosopher, 1930-2004) et à Gilles Deleuze (French philosophe, 1925-1995). But we strive for bring out the fundamental act, which work the Pre-dicat: the philosophical Dire whose character is to resonate between two sides, between the contrary terms. And this character allows us to bring out the different syntaxes of the philosophical Dire. However, we could not transform the Pre-dicat, make it work otherwise, but for the help of a dire whose resonance is no more bilateral. The non- philosophy inaugurated by François Laruelle (French philosopher, 1937- ) propounds a uni-lateral syntax of dire. We restart the Pre-dicat and make it work otherwise by way of this new manner of dire

Full textDuring the nineteenth century there was a major reorganization of poetic genres. Lyric poetry sometimes considered minor compared to the major genres, eventually absorb all the other poetic genres. It is in this current was born the word lyricism. Yet this concept must still be clarified. Théodore de Banville was a poet regarded by his contemporaries as lyrical, as the poet himself acknowledged. In addition, Banville is a poet who had a very strong critical awareness of lyric poetry and its correlate, lyricism. Lyric poet, Banville is also a theorist of lyricism. Therefore it is important to confront the theory and practice of lyricism, in order to understand better not only the nature of the lyricism of Banville, but also the development of lyricism in general during the second half of the century. Firstly, the theory of the lyricism in Banville is treated. The privileged object is Petit Traité de poésie française, not to mention various other texts, such as critics, and prefaces. The second part describes the practice of lyricism in the work of Banville, while the third part establishes the synthesis. There is a wonderful diversity of strophic forms based on the principle of lyrical expression both in his poetry and in his plays
Bineau, Anne. "Kenneth White : théorie et pratique de la poésie intégrale." Paris 10, 2001. http://www.theses.fr/2001PA100108.
Full textFor about forty years, Kenneth White has been working out and working at - via prose, poetry and essays - not only a poetical but a theoretical « opus » which is opening on a wide-ranging cultural movement : the International Institute of Geopoetics. As what is counting in a poet is what lie gets back to, and what lie goes out to, we will explore, the complex field generated between those two poles. In our first part entitled the primal space, we will put forward the initial premises on the Scottish ground, that experience of the earth which leads to the concept of white world. Then we will explore, on our second part called ways of research and method of working, the new mental and cultural space Kenneth White, as a cosmographer, is maping out, bringing old mental landscape to life again (celtic field, hamanism, Easter thought and practice) and sheding new light on them. New concepts such as supernihilism and intellectual nomadism will be fully explained as being partsof the integral poetics way. In the third part, entitled the great coherence, we will study the whole organic work, seen as an opus cosmopoeticum, and the concept and cultural movement of geopoetics which is concerned by the fundamental question : the earth, how to live on it, how to life along with it ? The idea is to augment both sensation of life and sense of world, which a way to answer Thoreau's question : « how to get the most life ?». These thesis provides the real opportunity to see, from inside, the whole White picture : his thought-path, his teaching, his poetics, his way of being in the world. It looks as if not only a new poetic field, a new literary space, but the beginning of a new culture, at least, a new cultural context is emerging on the horizon
Pavlopoulos, Marc. "L'intentionnalité pratique entre causes et raisons." Paris, EHESS, 2008. http://www.theses.fr/2008EHES0017.
Full textWhat is an intentional action? How do intentionality, rationality and having a reason to act relate? The debate between reasons and causes is badly put: the real question is not whether the relationship between intention and action is causal or not, but whether what makes an action intentional is a natural fact, or a form of description (Anscombe). Acting intentionally does require possession of the description under which the action is intentional, so intentional action is best approached by reasons. Having an intention is not willing: the intention is not the start of action, but a first-personal action-thought or -'practical knowledge. " The antinomy between reasons and causes really stems from the asymmetry of psychological verbs (Wittgenstein). For action verbs too are psychological verbs, even though they relate to happenings that take place outside our bodies. Causal explanations of action are typically third-personal, whereas reasons are always first-personal. Confusions between theses two standpoints lead to tremendous errors on the nature of practical rationality. The distinction between reasons and causes really becomes insightful when applied to moral psychology: it sheds light on the question of reason and motivation. Practical reasoning leads to action, and therefore motivates; but it is also defeasible (or non-monotonic). If reasons for action never are complete, why act on them? Various forms of skepticism are envisioned. I conclude that practical reasoning is a genuine form of inference, but a material, not a formaI one, in which will and intelligence melt (Aristotle). I finally advocate an expressivist account of practical reasoning

The foundations of a new economic order, as an alternative to the main model, were defined. The islamic financial system enables the coexistence of the religious life together with the material life and prevents the degradation of the social life towards a purely materialistic one. A theoretical model of the Islamic financial system was deduced from a comparison with the traditional system. It was suggested that the islamization of a financial system does not necessary deny the whole classical theory. Suppression of the interest aroused new techniques : the Moudaraba, the Moucharaka and the Mourabaha, identified to a profits and losses sharing. The islamic view point the prohibition of interest is because of monetary disorder. Islam considers that the interest makes financing operations and currency emission to be based on the lending rule instead of productivity considerations. This work tries equally to present clearly the organization and the functioning of the Islamic bank, by classic bank functions, namely the financial intermediation, the monetary creation and provision of services. The singularity of the Islamic bank is the replacement of the rate of interest by the rate of the participation in losses and profits. This thesis also studies the status of the currency in an Islamic financial system. This system does not see the currency as a good as others and sees interest as an element that diverts the currency from its finality as an intermediary of exchange

Full textHaiku is born, at the end of the xixth century, from the first verse ("hokku") of a collective poetical creation series (named "renga", then "haikai"; nowadays "renku"). It incorporates, as an exchange of salutations, a reference to a determined season. Concise and reduced to essentials, far from being a descriptive poetry, it ascribes or imputes feelings to things. It appeals to the visual sense and to resonances with poetry from the past. Pre-eminently a popular art, haiku is a neo-classical medium for cultural creation. The practice of reciprocal voting ("gosen") on each other's poems, where the author position yields to a reader's status, underlines the transitional specificity of the poetical exchange medium that is haiku, whose character is both aristocratic and popular

Full textExamining the practice of the sale of ongoing businesses can sometimes allow one to note an interpretation of texts that is contrary to the spirit of the legislator. It may be that the sales of craft businesses are therefore qualified as sales of ongoing businesses. The search for the preferential liens that are likely to affect the sold business requires that several statements of the registrations of existing preferential liens be requested. The notion of turnovers and profits mandatorily mentioned in the sale and purchase agreement requires a particular review of the accounting documents. The allocation of parts of the price is not insignificant in the search for the preferential liens that are likely to guarantee the bank loan or deferred payment. The principles of strict interpretation of the texts and speciality of the preferential liens, at the time of their registration, must be observed. A contrario, certain texts relating to the sale of ongoing businesses become unsuitable for the development of the life of the business, for the composition of the business. The sales of craft businesses should be aligned with those of ongoing businesses; the basis of the pledges should include the goods; the seller's preferential lien should be indivisible; the deadlines given to creditors to object to the price and given to register the preferential liens should be extended

Full textThe object of this study is literary plagiarism in Spanish Literatures, from a historical, theoretical and practical approach. From a historical point of view, plagiarism perception and representation have encountered important evolutions. However, they have preserved common elements. A plagiarist is an ‘untruthful author’, but to this basic notion other materials have been attached from a number of epistemological and disciplinary perspectives. Considered first as a mere moral or legal infringement and subsequently assimilated to a certain concept of intertextuality, recent studies make use of pragmatic approaches to intend an explanation of the ambiguous and polemic nature of the subject. This thesis studies the phenomenon from a multidisciplinary approach, gaining with the contributions collected from Law, Comparative Literature, History or the different national literatures, though maintaining its focus on Spanish Literatures. The study is divided in three parts. The first one deals with the emergence, instauration and evolution of the concept until approximately the end of the XVIIth century. Secondly, different theories are reviewed in relation with the particular disciplinary approaches adopted. Finally, practical applications of plagiarism are considered: normative, strategic, ideological or artistic uses. This study offers a general view of the subject and both a theoretical and a literary corpus, until presently scattered in monographic works, in order to propose some possible research guidelines on plagiarism in the realm of the Spanish Literatures

Full textOur study compared the representation of pervasive developmental disorders between France and Syria. Two approaches were realized in order to understand the handicap context in the Syrian society : A focus group study of Syrian people ; an analysis of Syrian proverbs. A study of the parent's announcement on the website « autism France » showed the requirements for rehabilitation. A comparative analysis of the semi directive interview content collected in France and Syria carried out on a population composed of 104 people, issued from both cultures and inhabits different social situations, allowing to evaluate the effects of culture and social distance on the representation of autism and its rehabilitation. The representation of autism, viewed as a social interaction difficulty, is a common element for both countries. The cultural difference concerns mostly the modality of rehabilitation

Full textDuring cinema's history, fictional films have not only been commercially successfuI forms of entertainment, but have also created political, intellectual and social events. Their presentation in the public realm, in both media and public institutions has generated significant debates and controversies. These film events have distinguished themselves apart from other film categories and exist as a phenomenon in society thereby underlining their importance as an object of study for the social sciences Our thesis proposes to study the construction of film events in United States, on the 'basis of a precisely justified corpus of American films The initial area of our study is to analyze these works as social objects implicating a critical understanding of their reception in a historical, political and social context. However, the question posed by this ' analysis also leads to a second level: what role does aesthetics - the intentions of the filmmaker and filmic language, for example - play in making a film an event? The third ' area of our research consists of questioning aesthetics in society, to imagine the concept of a soclo-psychologlcal aesthetic -in order to establish a encounter between aestheticvpolitics and society. In conclusion, this identification of an American film event offers the possibility to study other national cinemas, such as those from the Middle East or French cinema

Full textViollet-le-Duc accounts “style” as «the expression of an ideal, founded on a principle» in which principle embodies the principle of order of the structure. The latter must aswer directly to the Law of “units” that must always be respected in the design of the architecture. Starting from this central crux of the mindset of Viollet-le-Duc, this research has the goal of exploring the links between theory and practice in the work of Viollet-le-Duc, in which the “style” marks a constant thread, arising as a possible intepretation of this starring figure in the history of architecture and restoration of the nineteenth century. The research project focuses on a new reading of both published and unpublished documents, in addition to a careful bibliographical and documentary survey and a direct study of architectures. The examination of the archive is dedicated to the systematic analysis of the original drawings of projects and to the technical connections among the works of Viollet-le-Duc. Starting from this first investigation, two case-studies emerged as especially significant under the elected subject matter: the restoration project of the Madeleine a Vezelay church (1840-1859) and the work of the Maison Milon in rue Douai a Paris (1857-1860). Through the simultaneous work of analysis of the case-studies and the writing of Viollet-le-Duc, they tried to verify the possible correlations between theory and operational practise, comparing the projects to both the theoretical works and the tangible evidence of the buildings

Full textGeostatistics is the branch of statistics attached to model spatial phenomena through probabilistic models. In particular, the spatial phenomenon is described by a (generally Gaussian) random field, and the observed data are considered as resulting from a particular realization of this random field. To facilitate the modeling and the subsequent geostatistical operations applied to the data, the random field is usually assumed to be stationary, thus meaning that the spatial structure of the data replicates across the domain of study. However, when dealing with complex spatial datasets, this assumption becomes ill-adapted. Indeed, how can the notion of stationarity be defined (and applied) when the data lie on non-Euclidean domains (such as spheres or other smooth surfaces)? Also, what about the case where the data clearly display a spatial structure that varies across the domain? Besides, using more complex models (when it is possible) generally comes at the price of a drastic increase in operational costs (computational and storage-wise), rendering them impossible to apply to large datasets. In this work, we propose a solution to both problems, which relies on the definition of generalized random fields on Riemannian manifolds. On one hand, working with generalized random fields allows to naturally extend ongoing work that is done to leverage a characterization of random fields used in Geostatistics as solutions of stochastic partial differential equations. On the other hand, working on Riemannian manifolds allows to define such fields on both (only) locally Euclidean domains and on locally deformed spaces (thus yielding a framework to account for non-stationary cases). The discretization of these generalized random fields is undertaken using a finite element approach, and we provide an explicit formula for a large class of fields comprising those generally used in applications. Finally, to solve the scalability problem,we propose algorithms inspired from graph signal processing to tackle the simulation, the estimation and the inference of these fields using matrix-free approaches

Full textThis research work is based on a dual approach of art and science. It features a bioluminescent bacterium. My reflection presents bioluminescence as an intellectual and phenomenological construction where the ontological dimension of light takes on its full meaning from the idea of living light container. The thesis also traces my artistic career punctuated by light and human encounters as well as books such as the Little Prince by Saint-Exupéry. It also highlights my meeting from beyond the grave with the scientist and philosopher Raphael Dubois 1849-1929 who opened for me a track of research following his steps as a biologist and a field of reflection on his philosophy of Protéon and on memory in general. My reflection underlies a double ethics, that of scientific honesty in relation to Dubois' memory, and that related to the right of reserve linked to the practice of living and to the responsibility that falls to everyone. I also cast a critical look at this living light as a fashion phenomenon, one may probably be attracted by its aesthetic quality, its intrinsic nature of cold light, and its supposed ecological end, but in fact its « practice » raises many problems

Full textAutomatic proof checking is about using a computer to check the validity of proofs of mathematical statements. Since this verification is purely computational, it offers a high degree of confidence. Therefore, it is particularly useful for checking that a critical software, i.e., a software that when malfunctioning may result in death or serious injury to people, loss or severe damage to equipment or environmental harm, corresponds to its specification. DEDUKTI is such a proof checker. It implements a type system, the lambda-Pi-Calculus Modulo, that is an extension of the dependently-typed lambda-calculus with first-order rewrite rules. Through the Curry-Howard correspondence, DEDUKTI implements both a powerful programming language and an expressive logical system. Furthermore, this language is particularly well suited for encoding other proof systems. For instance, we can import in DEDUKTI theorems proved using other tools such as COQ, HOL or ZENON, a first step towards creating interoperability between these systems. The lambda-Pi-Calculus Modulo is a very expressive language. On the other hand, some fundamental properties such as subject reduction (i.e., the stability of typing by reduction) and uniqueness of types are not guaranteed in general and depend on the rewrite rules considered. Yet, these properties are necessary for guaranteeing the coherence of the proof system, but also for provingthe soundness and completeness of the type-checking algorithms implemented in DEDUKTI. Unfortunately, these properties are undecidable. In this thesis, we design new criteria for subject reduction and uniqueness of types that are decidable in order to be implemented in DEDUKTI.For this purpose, we give a new definition of the lambda-Pi-Calculus Modulo that takes into account the iterative aspect of the addition of rewrite rules in the typing context. A detailed study of this new system shows that the problems of subject reduction and uniqueness of types can be reduced to two simpler properties that we call product compatibility and well-typedness of rewrite rules.Hence, we study these two properties separately and give effective sufficient conditions for them to hold. These ideas have been implemented in DEDUKTI, increasing its generality and reliability

Full textThe object of this thesis is to enlight the works of two french architects Renée Gailhoustet (born in 1929) and Jean Renaudie (1925 - 1981), both of them with their own office. Their works concern urban programs grouping community facilities and public housing, with a particular interest for their adjacent realisations in Ivry-sur-Seine's downtown renovation, near Paris. Gailhoustet considers herself as a "follower" and gives to Renaudie a tutelary role, especially after his premature death while aknowledgement for his work is at his highest. The analysis of this conscious and accepted architectural filiation points out the quality and the originality of Gailhoustet's work, too often left in the master's shadow. By focusing specifically upon process of transmission and traduction between those two architects, the present work wishes to contribute to the debate around the notion of architectural model and to enlight the relation between architectural theory and practice

Full textFrench - meant as a cultural and linguistic whole with a unique philosophical-literary coding structured in ensemble of forms, genres and texts – has a crucial role in the thought and in the works of Giacomo Leopardi, from the beginning of his philosophical and literary education to his very late writings. It is, indeed, the only modern language - i.e. the only available resource for the interlinguistic exchange in the translation-transaction - which acted significantly in the author’s elaboration and production, emerging as the other language par excellence. Its ambivalent role both in writing, where French is used in a fruitful and refined way, and in theory, where it is faced to a polemical and critical approach, is evident throughout the Zibaldone, in author’s theoretical considerations about languages and translation, in many notes about lexicology and contrastive linguistic as well as in literary forms varying from the assay to the poem or the letter. In this context, the first section of this thesis explores, from a translatological point of view, Leopardi’s use of French in those various forms of writings where the linguistic invention and the genesis of literary texts themselves set up in the field of the entre-deux between similar languages. The second section, instead, focuses on the relation among short forms, poetic writing and the practice of the re-writing from a language to another, in the translation-remake of A.V. Arnault’s La Feuille, the tale in form of a poem, that Leopardi put at the end of the Canti, in its very last structure published in 1835
