Full textAlthough the notion of Queer Theater only began to develop in the early 1990s its stretch back to the beginning of the 20th century. Indeed, the portrayal of homosexuality on the stage has been shaped by moral and legal censorship revealing the tensions articulating theater as a whole. Queer theory, based on theoretical intertextuality, enables us to examine the way in which sex, gender, race and class are formed and how they are interrelated. Within this framework, queer criticism interrogates the politics of representation and attempts to grasp the forces that determine the boundaries separating the visible from the invisible. A general survey of drama reveals the variations that define both a history of Queer Theater and its construction as a category. "Homosexual theater," firstly characterized by the trope of the closet, was subsequently developed by a gay and lesbian theater informed by the trope of the coming out. Although this distinction is in itself an epistemological effect, it provides basic markers and explains the emergence of Queer Theater. Rejecting moot issues spawned by identity politics, Queer Theater sets out to utilize strategies against normative impulses perpetuated by a monolithic conception of the subject. Thus, Queer Theater offers a crosspollination that runs counter to the predominance of binary oppositions on stage. It then delves into the reception and production modes and attempts to open up the closure of interpretations and meanings of the text in order to go beyond heteronormativity. The AIDS crisis accelerated this process by questioning the status of the body furthered as well by the practice of camp, pornography and S/M. These aspects of queer performance, made more complex due to their performative effects, illustrate the queer momentum. Queer Theater therefore is a determining force on the stage, both pointing to its limitations and signaling new paths to keep it alive and on the cutting edge

Full textThe first concern of this thesis is a look on an emerging area of activities who built up from the last quarter of the twentieth century, at the boundaries of the social and sanitary themes in the peripheral urban spaces marked by the cazualisation process. This blur ensemble, legitimated by the institutional frame of the city's policy, reveal a reappering of the health topic in the urban context in the same time of a come back of the community in the work of the social "par la fenêtre" of health theme. The research takled to the genealogical reenactment making this theme a story of the sociologic thought on urban social and public health as well as a device's genesis. The personnal histories has been recorded as a privileged element to study the resemantic and reproblematic process along with the reconfigurations of the localised intervention. Three kinds of narrations are collected and put into perspective : tellings of experience, inseperably biographical and collective ; publicized tellings, among which the intellectual productions of the interrogated actors ; "stopped" tellings coming from ethnographic sightings of a few community health scenes. The research chore has to unconstruct a empiric objet a priori given as professionnal and surrounded in a new address of the public action to rewrite it in a sociologic grasp of the ways to talk and to make social work ; the ways to "make community" through health in a society of persons whose citizenship is unaccomplished. By the way, it shows that biographical commitments are part of a significant and indispensable constituent

Full textSince the end of apartheid, South Africa has entered into a vast process of national reconstruction, mobilising diverse constituent parts of its society. Theatre artists, many of whom were involved in the fight against the regime, have had to redefine their role within their country. This thesis focuses on the period of time between 2004 and 2014, and studies in particular the ideology and practices of professional theatre companies that chose to devote their art to the service of development. Following a prescriptive approach, these companies put a priority on tackling issues that represent an immediate threat to the vital balance of South African society, advocating an attitudinal and behavioural change in the target audiences. Observing the difficulties South Africa faces in managing its diversity and overcoming the numerous divisions that are by-products of its history, the artists also take on the question of identity. In this way, the actors present diverse perspectives on the subject and leave it to their audience to find the balance between recognising particular identities and adopting common values to build a truly united nation. Finally, such a theatre aims at transforming reality, therefore challenging the audience and the artists alike. Through modifying the status of the spectator, who becomes a participant, the actors explore the performative dimension of theatrical art. In addition, the artists themselves are confronted with a requirement for coherence, whether this involves respecting their purpose as a company committed to development, or incarnating, in both a professional and private sense, the values which they advocate on stage

Full textIf there are terms whose employment became so frequent and varied that one tests difficulty of finding the true definition, we can say that among these terms, poverty makes party of the most quoted. To understand female poverty in Kaolack, we needed to use not only the general indicators of poverty, but also representations made by people at different social level. Our reflexion related to the problems of the living conditions of the women, ther daily life on socio-spatial and economic plans. We analyzed women's poverty, the causes, and the consequences in particular : prostitution, children in difficult situation, juvenile delinquence. With the impotence of State to fight against this growing poverty, the assiociative movement became an alternative to the economic crisis. We analyzed the role of women associations, of NGO in the fight against poverty promoting sustainable development. It thus led our analysis to the conclusion that the poverty of women involves structural poverty of their children, and development passes by the improvement of the living conditions of the women and the children in the field of the access to education, health, and a balanced food

Full textThe aim of the thesis is to contribute to the design of a new development strategy in West Africa, on the basis of the experience of the economic community of West Africa’s member-states. The study is comprised of three components. In the first component relating to the global evolution, are examined the historical and geopolitical dynamics of the sub-region and the analysis of the crisis of structure and operation vicious circles. As concerns the second component, it deals with the present policies being implemented, namely, adjustment policies and initiatives to overcome the socio-economic impasse. Seven hypotheses on the implications of structural adjustment are tested through case-studies. The last component, corresponding to the alternative, contains the proposal of an integral human development strategy in the sub-region, based on the valorization of human, material and financial resources, the development of integrated channels of development, the agro-industrial and artisanal integration, the setting up of new methods and criteria of management, as well as new forms of co-operation. A new method for evaluating achievements bound to a set of indicators is also proposed

Full textParticipation of civil society in development activities is widely recognised as a central element for poverty reduction and a pillar of governance. A major challenge today is to find ways of guaranteeing efficient, inclusive and sustainable participatory mechanisms. The institutionalisation of participation can address these requirements. This study aims to identify and discuss the measures that ought to be taken in this endeavour and focuses on the role of Law in the process of institutionalising participation. The study highlights the central role of the legal framework in fostering an enabling environment for participation, namely by guaranteeing rights, setting up spaces and defining rules for civic engagement. However, the legal dimension can only constitute one aspect of the institutionalisation process. Other elements such as the strengthening of capacities of both civil society actors and public authorities are equally important. Senegal constitutes the main case study of this analysis. Several initiatives have been taken in this country towards institutionalising participation in various spheres, including the PRSP process and the European cooperation policy, as well as national sectorial education and rural development policies

It analyzes the logic and the real motivations of this transfer but also the local governance constraints against state actors resistance to give up their authoritarianism. This so-called salutary empowerment was hastily given and has for consequences: adjournment or transposition of the economic and social disparities generated and maintained by the system of state frame, transformation of the hydraulic Unions in potential zone of tensions and conflicting places between factions in search of poxer and emergency of a bureaucratic peasant elite. Nevertheless, it created a social bubbling situation which triggered a reflexive brainwork on the rice-growing, the agricultural professionalization and the auto-development

Full textSiam – Thailand as it has been known for several decades – is the result of a mix of people, cultures and literatures, which is still dynamic nowadays. Western influence appeared there at the beginning of the 16th century and increased very quickly during the 19th century when its kings had to prepare the kingdom to face the British and Frenchcolonial greed. King Vajiravudh (1910-1925), who studied about ten years in Great Britain, tried to make Occidental-style drama become well-known with his compatriots through translations, adaptations and, later, original works. Contrary to what has generally been affirmed, his action did not mark a break in the history of Thai literature : it was placed in an uninterrupted literary continuity and never rejected the traditional topics : his plays especially brought western dramatic and scenographic techniques, which have been developed through the last century. More than being the actor of a revolution in Thaidrama, King Vajiravudh marked out an evolution which has been continuous for centuries

Full textThe growth in new ICT leads us to ask wheter the newer and hither to little-researched question of labour transfers not involving the physical displacement of persons should not be seen as part of the conventional one concerning the free movement of persons. A legal framework for these transfers would seem to be necessary if we do not wish to see the development of uncontrollable transfers of labour. The question is wether Community Labour Law regulations take into consideration these new transfers. It is the hypothesis of this research that Community regulations concerning the transfer of cross-border labour have been built around the physical displacement of workers. Today these regulations must take into account the growth in the transfer of labour not involving the physical displacement of persons. The transfers lead to two questions : concerning their inclusion in current regulations, and the inclusion of their consequences in current regulations

Full textABSTRACT This research has the ambition to revisit the theories of social action, social capital and those of the territory-actor to capture the dynamic interactions of actors and territories under the territorial development. The need for articulation between theory and practice is also taken into account through the analysis of lessons learned from the Support Programm for Small Local Irrigation (PAPIL) in the light of the above theoretical approaches. The implementation of PAPIL which aims to support people in building a project of sustainable and inclusive territory in a collective perspective and relying on local resources, is in the need to anticipate to accompany the changes taking place at "local societies plagued by de-structuring and restructuring." In its approach, the project is part PAPIL new generations in local development. It aims to encourage and facilitate locally common and shared willingness to emerge a draft territorial development and wealth creation. The geographical scope of the study consists of Fatick, Kolda, Tambacounda, Kédougou considered among the poorest in Senegal about 80 000 km2 and a population estimated at about 2,209,511 million in 2013. The PAPIL intervenes in those territories that have values, beliefs, an experience that must necessarily be taken into account. The social and societal dimensions are decisive in the formulation and implementation of a local development project. In this context, these territories were analyzed from four identity components on which exercises the lever of governance namely the societal, social, international and government / NGO / project. This research has identified for each territory, the actuating levers to implement optimally a local development program. Keywords: local Development - Territories- local Actors - local governance- decentralization- local development projects

Full textEconomic and social development can not be just reduced to economic growth. Beyond this, it implies a change which has to include the actors involved, into a dimension reinforcing the cultural identity by, and for, each one of them; as well as adding to the structuration of their specific collective organization. The study leading to those conclusions is mainly founded upon the evolution of two development projects in rural communities, in zaire and in rwanda as well as on a confrontation of their analysis through the theories of the psychologist jean piaget on adjustment ant organization. The relation between the theories of piaget on intellectual development of the human mind and being, and the process of social involvment and economic development is futher on justified through the studies of the socio-economist roland colin on direct partaking of populations in their own development process in direct relation with the progression of an organization which should thus result. In this manner, the research has had the opportunity to lead towards a conclusion involving the necessity of interrelation and training in every development process

Full textThe purpose of this thesis is to examine the conviction of international organisations that consider community radios as an effective tool for economic and human development. Community radios are in fact regarded as a new source of growth to stand up to failing states due to their local presence and ability to broadcast information in local language. They are also representative of a participatory development considered as more effective than the traditional development "top-down" axis. This issue, which is quite recent in theoretical level, is very crucial since successive development policies promoted by states and international organisations have generated disappointments in many developing countries, particularly on the African continent.Due to a lack of theoretical literature in regards to the relationship between community radios development and economic and human development, the field survey was the mainstay of our analysis. We chose to perform the field survey in Senegal for reasons of practicalities and representativeness. Supported by statistics, particularly logistic regressions, and by a summary of a rich theoretical literature on development issues, our analysis convincingly argue that if community radios are a good development tool, their impact is nevertheless currently constrained by a number of limits, including their low budget. Once these limitations are identified, we will put forward proposals to allow community radios to become a truly effective tool for economic and human development while considering cooperatives or promoting the development of radio listening clubs

This research starts of a historical reality, the systemic social vulnerability of indigenous communities in the state of Yucatan. The Action Research methodology allowed the study of the community of Telchac Pueblo, describing and explaining this social reality. Three main organizing principles have been considered : historical, structural and functional. Through an articulated conceptual model based on different theories of development and inter-cooperation, the successful models of Mondragon and AMAP, and a specific knowledge transfer system based on learning and innovation, we managed building an adequate predictive system for triggering an experience of communitarian develpoment based on cooperative principles

Full textOverall, development theories are not only explanatory models of social change but are primarily theoretical models strongly imbued with ideology justifying the action axes of program development policies. Initially, the theories proposed for the 'southern' countries to “take off” or to wipe the historical order of international dominance as a solution to the riddle of development. In a second step, in the late 1970s, they were the means of ensuring strong economic growth for “North” and “South” countries by the application of SAPs. From the 1990s, a new set of theories of development proposes a form of political action distinct from structural adjustment: local development. It comes in three main action axes:- the return of politics as an institution of economic and social regulation through the ideas of governance and participatory democracy ;- optimization of economic growth and social services by political regulation ;- local development as a production and a regulation level of the politic, the social and the economic. Thus, whether at the level of scientific theories or political agendas, these three axes are the prerequisites of social change. But must these prerequisites be followed to lead the Local Development? This is the question that we tried to address through the perspective of local development practices in a city of a “South” country, Bamako, Mali, and in a city of a “North” country, Marseille, France

Full textThe background for this project is the promotion of health. It aims at the development, implementation and evaluation of an intervention promoting the daily consumption of at least five servings of vegetables and fruits, by college students. The first step consisted in the identification of the determinants of the intention to consume at least five daily servings of vegetables and fruits, during three months, for 385 students from two Québec CEGEP establishments. The framework for this study was Ajzen’s theory of planned behavior (1991), three constructs from other theoretical models being included. Within a correlation device, a hierarchical regression analysis revealed that 75 % of the variance pertaining to intention was explained by the following factors: perception of control, perceived importance of facilitators and barriers, and attitude. Another 4 % of the variance for intention was accounted for by added variables. Logistic regression analyses allowed the identification of the beliefs that could be used to structure the educational intervention. The second step was the development and implementation of an intervention based on the identified determinants, with an experimental group during one school semester. Bartholomew, Parcel, Kok & Gottlieb’s (2006) intervention mapping protocol, comprising six steps, was the procedure followed. Finally, a quasi experimental pretest postest device was used in evaluating the effects of this intervention (n = 344). The results obtained through a logistic regression analysis showed a significant 15 % increase in the number of participants exposed to the intervention reaching the prescribed goal of a daily consumption of vegetables and fruits, compared those in the control group (p=0.0219). A covariance analysis reveals a significant effect (p< 0.05) of the intervention on all of the psychosocial variables. Mediation analyses reveal that the effects observed can be attributed to the selected constructs. To conclude, the implementation of an intervention structured according to this model has resulted in the increase of the number of participants reaching the daily consumption goal of fruits and vegetables. A significant change in the determinants associated with the consumption behaviour was also observed. Future interventions with Québec college students on this behavior could successfully follow this procedure.

Full textContext of the urbanity evolution in the Dakar metropolitan area is combined with the emergence and/or the assertion of identity logics. The religion became, by the way of these networks, an important factor of territorial construction. That goes from the conquest of portions of spaces to the creation of new territories legitimatedd by the monk. The catholic networks socio-monk of Dakar are not only registered in the space of the agglomeration, but not also produced by this one; they are dynamic. By their space-time dynamism, they contribute to structure, develop and modify the territory of the agglomeration. The "territory-network" could thus combine the whole of the relations which are woven inside the various urban structures. Parallel to the administrative geography, the catholic and christian geography evolves/moves with its own structuring and meets its own standards of organization controls around two models : specific and surface; it functions between the room and the total one. It is through the behaviors and the strategies developed by the community to integrate the monk in the urban one that the territoriality takes shape. For the majority adhesion with associations is not systematic, the membership of the geographical entity or the structure lodging association (the company, establishment. . . ) is necessary. One of the principal rules of the operation of these networks is that they emphasize two levels of occurences for which it is necessary to be interested: the individual level of faithful belonging or not to the organization and the collective level of the reseautic organization itself

Full textThe Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CE MAC) in the Central African subregion has a very significant potential of oil resources. Those resources are central to the global geopolitics as well as the regional economic development issues. Although the economy of the six oil-producing states of the CEMAC is based on oil exploitation, the recurring shortages of petroleum products in those countries cause problems in accessing modern energies (gas, butane and fuel). But beyond those shortages, short-term fluctuations, the socio-spatial disparities in access to petroleum products are the focus of this PhD thesis. This situation which seems paradoxical at first sight for countries endowed with an energy potential though, is a real obstacle to development in particular in the transport and industry sector. The difficulties to access modern energies constrain households in particular those in rural areas, to use the biomass in a traditional way (firewood and animal waste) at the expense of the environment preservation or even at the expense of their health. This thesis aims therefore to diagnose the factors which hinder the universal access (on social and spatial level) to petroleum products and its consequences on the environment. Furthermore, the strategies developed by the actors are also highlighted. We propose some ideas to improve the supply and distribution system of petroleum products in the CEMAC countries

Full textThe Indonesian context is changing. It is necessary that Indonesia adapts as soon as possible to the globalization and its competing environment. The work which was undertaken in this thesis locates the Economic Intelligence in the middle of the Indonesian change by setting up the methods and the tools which can support its development. But, Economic Intelligence, if it is for the major part of the cases intended for the development of the companies must in the Indonesian context be adapted to the development of the region. It is in this sense that the bond between Economic Intelligence and territorial intelligence is carried out. The regional stakes within the framework of Indonesia is described, as well as the applications which can be carried out within the framework of the economic intelligence. To show the effectiveness of my method, an example was developed in detail: that of the management of waste and their mode of treatment. This management in fine, will fall under the regional attractivity by developing at the same time the environmental aspects, energy and by supporting the changes of mentality

Full textRecognized by UNESCO since 1993 as a world heritage, the province of Thừa Thiên Huế (Vietnam) is also known for handicraft villages. The cultural and identity values of the region are involved through artisanal products. The awareness of reviving handicrafts is a great challenge for the province in general and artisans in particular, because of the disappearance of these trades. Thus, the setting in tourism by creating jobs with the autochthones and by perpetuating these cultural heritages in these villages, unveils realities of the tourist mutations of several actors concerned. So this research focuses on highlighting the three key points. First, cultural and economic impacts directly and / or indirectly affect the indigenous community. Second, new jobs help improve the lives of local people. Lately, it concerns the difficulties encountered with regard to the sustainable development of community tourism in artisan craft villages

Full textThis research tries to understand the causes and the consequences of modernization in a small town of North Africa. In this case, Zentan, in Lybia. First, an historical approach looks at the evolution and the appearance of geographical, political and social structures. Then, a second part is looking more precisely to the specific indicators of modernisation, which are social (demography, instruction, health) or depending more particularly upon economic sectors (agriculture, industry, transport and communication, electricity, labour). The third part draws up the theorical framework of the study, while the fourth and last presents the adopted methodology, its practical application on the field, and its results. The first aim of this research is to draw up an accurate panorama of Zentan and, thus, have better understanding of the influence of modernization upon the population of small cities and, by extension, have a better perception of the global social change in Lybia. The further aim is to contribute to a general theory in relation to the phenomenon of modernization in the Arab countries
