Abstract:
The main purpose of the carried out research was identification of the influence of internal environment factors on the formation of financial results of industrial enterprises, quantitative assessment of the strength of their influence, and determination of the most significant factors at the present stage of development of the national economy. The relevance of this applied research is that knowledge about the mechanisms of action of internal factors certainly plays a leading role precisely in terms of the influence of management on the value of financial results of individual enterprises and in achieving the required level of profitability. In the article, a margin analysis is carried out on the example of a logical and statistically substantiated sample of 15 enterprises of the processing industry in the city of Kharkiv for the period 2016-2019, the results of the analysis prove that in modern changing conditions there is no clear correlation between production volumes, profits, and the composition of operating costs. The carried out correlation analysis allowed to trace the closeness of relationship between the functional and the factor variables. The functional group of variables is a system of consistently formed in the financial statements of interrelated indicators of financial results (from gross to net profit) classified as net income. The internal factors are represented by three groups of indicators. The first group includes a system of 10 indicators that characterize the level of costs and other types of income in the net income of enterprises. The second group of indicators characterizes the physical and financial structure of capital, the degree of participation of bank loans in the financing of enterprises. The third group of indicators is related to determining the efficiency of resource use. The results of the carried out research indicate a weak participation of the main operating activity, namely, production activity, in the formation of financial results and net profit, and the main negative role is played by costs from other operational, financial and other types of activity. At this, the efficiency of economic activity practically does not affect the financial results and profitability of various types of activities of enterprises. The need to improve the internal mechanisms for the formation of financial results and increase the level of profitability of industrial enterprises is substantiated.

The aim of this article is to investigate the activity of foreign direct investors in Latvia and find out what is the main source of financing for foreign investors – new investments or reinvested earnings. In order to achieve the set goal and test the hypothesis, the methodology of Sixth Edition of the International Monetary Fund’s Balance of Payments and International Investment Position Manual was used to define the types of foreign direct investment. This methodology was adapted to Latvian data. At the request of the author, Ltd Lursoft IT selected business data on all registered companies with foreign capital in Latvia since 2005 and aggregate data were used in the analysis.Foreign direct investment in Latvia flows mainly in the form of reinvested earnings, due to the profit earned from operating activities in Latvia. While new investments or greenfield investments in equity is lower compared to the amount of reinvested earnings. The results of the study reflect the business results of foreign direct investors in Latvia, as well as their actions in relation to the earned profit from operating activities. These results could be used by the Ministry of Economics of the Republic of Latvia and the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia to improve Latvia’s investment environment and im¬plement a more effective investment attraction strategy.

Abstract:
Introduction. Modern enterprises operate in conditions of political and economic instability. This requires enterpris-es to build an integrated system for ensuring economic security. In Ukraine, the issue of economic security is relevant. But not fully understood. Need to clarify issues related to improving cost management. This is a factor in improving the econom-ic security of the enterprise. The purpose of the study is the theoretical and practical justification of cost management. Results. One of the the main goal of the enterprise is maximum profit. A factor in the success of enterprises is to re-duce production costs. Business security is a prerequisite for stable sustainable development and effective operation of the enterprise. Economic security depends on many factors: the actions of competitors, unsuccessful state policies, changing market conditions, and crisis phenomena. Object of enterprise security: personnel (managers, structural divisions, share-holders and employees), financial, economic, material and intellectual capital of the enterprise; specifics of activity. The head of the enterprise makes a decision. The decisions concern the price of the product, the amount of expenses. Costs - a decrease in the volume of material assets, cash. Cost management involves functions: forecasting, planning, rationing, organization, calculation, motivation and stimulation, accounting, analysis, regulation and control of expenses. Conclusions. We consider the “Cost-Volume-Profit” (CVP- analysis) analysis to be successful. It allows you to iden-tify changes in costs. The dependence of changes in production volumes and incomes on sales is studied; expenses and net profit. It’s substantiated that cost and profit planning using CVP analysis has limitations. Marginal income (profit) – the difference between sales revenue and variable costs. The higher the marginal income level, the faster fixed costs are reim-bursed. The average marginal income is an “indicator” of the contribution of a unit of production to covering fixed costs. The purpose of break-even analysis (CVP-analysis) is to predict financial results. Break-even analysis of economic activity is an indicator of the brink of effective and inefficient management. The same is the condition for maximizing profits. The main thing is an effective defense mechanism of the enterprise. Provides economic security of the enterprise from the threat of bankruptcy. Keywords: economic security, cost management, profit, costs, cost-volume-profit analysis.

Abstract:
The assessment of current production activities is carried out on the example of specialized construction and installation management with the help of turnover indicators as well as the level of efficiency of use of own and borrowed funds by the enterprise was determined. Indicators of this group characterize the results and efficiency of the current main activity of the enterprise, such analysis can be carried out both at the qualitative level and with the help of quantitative criteria. The main ones are production indicators, return on assets and turnover indicators. These indicators are of great importance for assessing the financial condition of the enterprise, because the speed of turnover, i.e. the speed of their conversion into cash, directly affects the solvency. The results of the calculation of the rate of return indicate that this fact (decrease in the turnover of fixed assets) may be associated with aging and wear of production equipment, i.e. we can say that the technical level of fixed assets of the object is low. The coefficient of sustainability of economic growth shows the average rate at which the company can develop further, without changing the already established relationship between different sources of funding. Summarizing the comparative data, we can say that if the management of the enterprise intends to increase its production capacity in order to increase production, it is necessary to change the financial policy. The results of calculations allow to show that at the analyzed enterprise there was a significant increase in the full production cycle and turnover as a whole. The duration of the operating cycle increased by more than 1.2 times and the duration of the financial cycle by almost 2 times. This was negatively affected by the factor of a significant slowdown in the turnover of inventories. Increasing the full production cycle in the future may cause negative trends in the enterprise as a whole, because this factor will primarily affect the amount of profit, which will affect the efficiency of production. The company activities to reduce the amount of net profit was influenced primarily by the acquisition of inventories, low-value perishable items and fixed assets, as well as repayment of accounts payable and payment of penalties. The period of turnover of the most liquid assets during the year varied from 0.04 to 17.5 days. The average chronological value in the period of saving money in the accounts of the enterprise was 7.5 days. This fact indicates that the company, despite the apparent well-being, is experiencing a serious shortage of funds. They were enough for a little over a week. Thus, with the help of analysis of economic indicators, you can describe the general condition of the company and the possibilities of its operation and development

Abstract:
The article shows that the investment attractiveness of the branches of the economy depends on the sources of their investment. The purpose. The purpose of the article is to determine the features and trends of investment attractiveness of industries. Results. The volume of budget investments has been reduced, and the state is not the main executor of the investment process and can influence it through the system of taxes, loans, depreciation, privileges, and subsidies. It is determined on the basis of the analysis of sources of investment that self-financing is of paramount importance and the main source of investment is its own resources, first of all, profit. The basic functions that make a profit and the factors affecting it are determined. The considered functions directly result from the development of the enterprise and depend on the adoption of investment decisions. The role of the profit in the adoption of an investment decision depends on its type: short-term expected profit is a complete self-financing, which implies the rapid implementation of investments. Profit is the result of the effective operation of any investment object and the basis for making an investment decision. These functions can be considered as classical interdependent because they find content only in the conditions of their existence and contribute to the development of production. The innovation activity of the enterprise determines its potential market opportunities and attractiveness for the investor, and profit growth is ensured mainly due to: production of new products; development of new markets; growth of labour productivity; use of new raw materials. In economically developed countries, the investment process depends on the impact of market conditions, sources and size of investment financing. Attracting investments in any form contributes to the development of the economy. Value/originality. Profit is considered, firstly, as the profit received as a result of production and sales of products or services; and secondly, income in the form of interest or dividends received from the acquisition/investment of securities. In the course of the study, the motivational content of profit as the main source of investment is considered. International experience shows: the volume of foreign investment entering the country’s economy determines its integration into the world community.

Abstract:
Following the financial crisis in 2001, Turkish banking sector started a ‘restructuring’ process. This led to recovery of the damage caused by the crisis and, despite the significant decrease in number of the banks, the banking sector gained quite a sound structure. This imrpovement allowed it to remain strong against the global financial crisis that took place after 2007 and caused important progress for many financial indicators, in particular the deposits and loans. Interest- free banking, which has been operating in form of participation bank through the profit and loss sharing system since 2005, become a competitor, in a different aspect, to deposit banks, an important part of the conventional banking. This study compares attitudes of the Participation Banks and the Deposit Banks against their customers before and after the crisis, in light of the financial indicators from the financial statements. The analysis concludes that Particpiation Banksa re significantly different from Deposit Bank in aspect of 'acticity ratios', which are based on the main areas of activity.

Abstract:
The development of an entrepreneurial environment and entrepreneurial initiative is a priority task for the socio-economic development of the country as a whole and its individual regions. Its implementation is possible, among other things, by supporting and developing entrepreneurial initiatives from the state. At the same time, the sustainability of economic growth in individual regions is largely determined by the effectiveness of the implementation of the economic development strategy adopted at the regional level and the practice of activities of economic entities operating on their territory. The article presents the materials of theoretical studies of areas of activity and empirical studies of the results of the activities of federal institutions created to activate innovative processes and implement investment projects in the regions. The presented results of the analysis of the activities of such institutions, expressed in the types and volumes of state support for economic entities, made it possible to identify and formulate the following conclusions: 1) enterprises of the Volga Federal District actively interact with such organizations and institutions as the autonomous non-profit organization Agency for Strategic Initiatives to Promote New Projects, State Corporation Bank for Development and Foreign Economic Affairs (Vnesheconombank), “AO Russian Export Center”, “AO Russian Venture Company”, Industrial Development Fund, Fund for Assistance to Small Innovative Enterprises in Science and Technology, RUSNANO Group; 2) due to active participation in the programs and projects of these organizations, the Volga Federal District is in the group of leaders in terms of the main economic indicators. The practical significance of the obtained research results lies in the formation of an idea of the mechanisms and instruments for the implementation of state support for entrepreneurial initiative, based on the interaction of economic entities with federal development institutions.

Abstract:
The pig population in Hungary was about 8 million in 1990, while this number dropped to only 2.8 million by 2018. The previously so successful integrated domestic pig farming has almost completely disappeared and most of the smaller farms still operating in the 1990s are no longer functioning. At present, a process of concentration can be observed, which was accompanied by the further specialization of pig farming. The main profile of most pig farms is fattening, but there is a smaller number of farms in Hungary today specialized for piglet production, the successful operation of which requires significantly more expertise and more complex technology. The main aim of this study is to present the production and economic indicators of a pig farm specialized in piglet production in Hungary as a result of a greenfield investment in the current economic environment, on a case study basis. For this purpose, an economic simulation was prepared based on primary data collection, operating on a deterministic basis, modelling the production and economic processes of the farm. The performed calculation does not derive the economic indicators of the activity from accounting records, but assigns the prices of natural inputs used on the basis of technological data. Primary data and information collection (e.g. technological data, input and output prices, unit cost items, etc.) took place between 2018-2019. At the purchase prices of pigs in the last two years, which have increased significantly due to the African Swine Fever (ASF), the majority of pig farms in Hungary have an outstanding profit-making capacity. The physical efficiency indicators of the analysed pig farm are almost identical to the average data of such farms in the Netherlands, which has one of the most developed pig industry. The income of the examined pig farm at farm level is about 734 thousand EUR, i.e. 232 EUR per sow. Moreover, this activity is profitable even without subsidies. As a result, the greenfield investment pays off in the 8th year by default (average scenario). The investment has a Net Present Value (NPVr=3%) of EUR 2,609 thousand for 10 years, an Internal Rate of Return of 8.5%, and a Profitability Index (PIr=3%) of 1.3. At the same time, risk factors such as sales prices, output and capacity utilization, and feed costs should be taken into consideration as in extreme cases the return on investment may be unfavourable (pessimistic scenario). Abstract:
Pimenta dioica L. Merrill. Myrtaceae family, known for its berries called pimenta or allspice, is one of the oldest spices in the world, widely used for its culinary and medicinal qualities. The main commercial product obtained from this spice is its essential oil, the reason for the interest in essential oil is based on the versatility of its use in different industrial areas (food, cosmetics, perfumery, and pharmaceuticals) due to its harmless and beneficial effects for health. In addition, it contains compounds that have shown broad biological activity, which turns out to be useful in the treatment of diseases related to the excessive formation of oxygen radicals. As a result, the extraction process and operating conditions have a significant impact on the bioactivity of these molecules. As a consequence, selecting the correct mix of variables to improve oil extraction and functionality is essential. The most of study on this essential oil is being focused on resolving these issues, as well as purification and identification. This chapter will cover the methods for obtaining P. dioica essential oil, as well as the chemical profile of the oil and its biological properties, which include its effects on humans, plants, animals, insects, and microorganisms.

Abstract:
Since its expansion at the beginning of the 20th century, tourism has shown its strength and importance. Tourism is a link between several economic sectors, thanks to its accumulated development potential. One of the main goals of business entities from the financial point of view is to achieve profit. The second is the maximize the value of the company, which can be affected by the achievement of profit. Companies operating in the field of tourism in the Slovak Republic are no exception. The chapter deals with the analysis of their equity, including its individual items with an emphasis on the going concern. Using Pearson’s correlation coefficient, we identify the relationship between equity and its individual items. The aim of the chapter is, based on indebtedness indicators, specifically total indebtedness and the degree of self-financing to assess the adequacy of own resources needed to finance its activities in this sector in the Slovak Republic, while marginally analyzing the impact of COVID-19 on the tourism sector in Slovakia.

Abstract:
The sharing economy developed rapidly with the increase in consumption expenditures in a period when low interest rates and access to credit were easy before the 2008 Financial Crisis and entered into serious competition with companies operating in the traditional economy. The use of sharing economy tools has increased as a result of sustainability, environmentalism, desire for new experiences, local tourism, and authentic searches. The sharing economy, whose main motivation is to reintroduce idle products to the market, has changed its priorities over time and turned into a profit-oriented structure, and large companies increased their revenues by increasing the number of users. The criticisms emerging as a result of employment losses, reservation cancellations, reimbursement requests, lack of social security of employees, and therefore not being able to benefit from COVID-19 aids have revealed the missing parts of the sharing economy.

Non-food vendors struggle to reduce customers churn when these shop for consumer goods: From simple coupons to sophisticated big-data-based loyalty systems, modern merchants undertake a range of initiatives to maintain customer loyalty to their stores. At the same time, while consensus exists on the fact that retail brands have the ability to generate store loyalty, this fact has seldom been empirically corroborated. Probably due to this lack of certainty, many non-food retailers use “private label” product strategies as a way to preserve healthy business ratios, such as revenue, contribution margin, operating profit, etc., far from the idea of developing customer loyalty to the store. This constitutes the main objective of our work: To prove the existence of a statistic correlation between Consumers' loyal attitudes and behaviors towards “private labels” and their loyalty towards The Store Brand Name that sponsors these brands.

The described project assumes the development of a new method for solving the problem of homelessness, in particular, with regard to the field of supporting people in an exceptionally difficult situation or those suffering from mental disorders and/or addictions to achieve independence and overcome problems. The aforementioned project is the first attempt at implementing this method in Poland. The basic assumption of the method is to solve the main problem of a person in the homelessness crisis, which is the lack of housing, and only then to provide support in solving other problems. The aim of the chapter is to give rise to discussion on the innovative solutions implemented by one of the local government to remedy the problems of homeless people. The issue is based on SDGs. The second described case study is the “Safe Future of People with Intellectual Disability”—implemented by the Polish Association for People with Intellectual Disability—reflecting the tested model based on support circles, i.e. social support networks in order to empower people with intellectual disabilities. The main objective of the “Safe Future” model is to develop and implement solutions that ensure legal, financial and social security of people with intellectual disabilities in situations where they have lost the support of the family. The concept of the support circles tested in this model is based on built networks of connections rooted in the social capital generated among the local community. The last example of sustainable development in the non-governmental sector is Social Cooperative Sunny Hill—as a social enterprise it is a unique entity on the market. It conducts economic activity, the main goal of which is not profit, but social and professional re-integration of people at risk of social exclusion. Contrary to a traditional enterprises, it does not distribute the profit among shareholders, but allocates it to social purposes.

Abstract:
The current manufacturing sector has the objective of maximizing profit by minimizing waste, proper utilization of men, machine and materials. Apart from this, the focus has been on implementing green manufacturing practices in operations. The lean -green topic is an emerging and the new one in the present scenario. The main aim of the green practices is to improve operational activities as well as environmental efficiency. Green practices are concerned with the environmental, social and economic impacts over any organization. Lean manufacturing has been coined by nine wastes. These wastes have an impact on green practices, leading to generation of green wastes. Some of the green waste was excessive resource usage, power usage, pollution, improper health and safety. Lean and green are concurrent manufacturing practices focusing on wastes. The present industrial scenario has been looking into implementing these practices in their operations. A few practices relating to lean-green practices, are integration of lean -green concepts, organization performance analysis, functions, assessment performance and empirical study etc. One of the primary activity of lean-green strategies is showing respect to the workforce. Human factor will be considered as one the main pillars in the lean-green practices. In this research paper a model has been proposed for identification of a Lean-Green Resourced Person (LGRP) for integrating and implementing lean and green practices in a manufacturing industry. Identification of LGRP will help the organization in implementing and executing lean-green strategies into their operations. A multicriteria decision making method has been used for finding the LGRP in the industry. The identification will result in reductions in time consumption during implementation, guiding the industry in a proper way for implementing and integrating the lean-green techniques.

Abstract:
Profit is considered to be an important source of financing the financial activity of any economic entity. The main purpose of any activity is to make a profit. As a significant part of equity, employees can be remunerated from profit (as part of their profit share) and also shareholders/associations can be also remunerated in the form of distributed dividends. The appreciation of financial performance is closely linked to the ability to make a profit. In this sense, the main purpose of this article is to analyze and describe the evolution of profit and net profit margin, as an indicator of performance appreciation, for economic entities in the field of manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products in Romania. The basis of the analysis is the annual financial statements for a number of 46 entities for the period 1999-2018 (20 years). The results of the research show that, from the point of view of the evolution of the number of entities that register profit, we are witnessing an increase from 12 entities in 1999 to 23 entities in 2018. However, referring to the increase in the number of entities from a total of 17 in 1999 to 46 entities in 2018, we notice that in 2018 only half of them register a profit. The other half falls into the category of less performing entities due to losses. However, after a period of financial decline (2008-2009) we see a gradual increase in profits recorded by economic entities in the pharmaceutical industry in Romania.

Abstract:
Abstract Turning an organization to an effective data driven decision making is vital factor to have and achieve digital transformation journey smoothly and successfully in the Energy sector, in which the energy industry has been trying to achieve the complete cycle Listen, Understand, effect and Decide rightly and quickly across the whole value chain such as HR, Finance, legal and contracts, operations, etc. since several decades where the software solutions were not in the priority list of the industry special the operations for many reasons, which created a serious of concequences which the industry is suffering from now such as listening carefully to the operations, understand the exact needs no matter how much we might save even if it’s 1 USD or 1 minute but do it correctly first time will save hours and millions later, silos in the organizations, distracted technologies not integrated, limitation of the technologies capabilities, people skills and compenetencies and the expectation the has been always set wrongly didn't support the industry to have organization reliance, security, safety, service quality and loyalty and reduce time and cost. With the current unprecedented crisis which are the COVID-19 and the massive oil crisis bundled together have created disturbance across the whole Energy industry which impacted the whole value chain not only for the Energy industry not the rest of the industries dramatically. The Panademic affect the whole key processes that the people used to for the last several decades, but the most important thing is change management process or manage to change process approach which is completely changed and from my opinion since years came true. Having the disruptive technologies will support the whole industry to come back much stronger than before as proven in other industries such as Aerospace and Defense, Telecome, Automative, Banking etc. The Intelligent Energy Platform focus on achieving what they couldn't achieve in the last decades through unique a approach towards the whole complete cycle Listen, Understand, effect and Decide, through developing and design a subway map for the whole workflows across the whole industry value chain integrating all the data sources together, by studying and remapping the whole processes, answering key four questions for each process, activity and tasks who, where, what and why, empowered machine learning with algorithms that will achieve the automation through digitizing and standardizing over a cognitive environment. There are several key pillars to get the digital transformation journey successfully and smoothly happening from my experience in the field operations, engineering, business, marketing and sales; Know and be clear on the end goal, which the Intelligent Energy Platform will include; select the right team from all the key stakholders, felexible and adoptable to change during the journey, tackle the exact needs for every process, activity and tasks, the power to change and update the solution at any given time, strong learning system, etc. In addition there are complimentary and network tool which is empowering the Intelligent Energy Platform that will expedite and support the journey massively, which is an advanced Infinity unique communication tool which is empower by all disruptive technology that will allow as an example all field engineers and management to be in one free Infinity business communication ' chatting' constructive and organize powered by disruptive solution where an example the engineer in a field and the operations has stopped for spare parts, equipment, machine, tool, etc. so he/she will send a normal message over our Infinity chatting app through the mobile or tablet and automatically this app will do a quick research in the back system, and display where it's available if it's within the country in another field, company, workshop, hence the engineer will click on the intended target, then automatically will go to the right approvals to approve on fly though the mobile or tablet, this will impact the performance of the operations massively and drop the non-productive time heavily by 20-30% and generate new business revenue in which few companies who are not utilizing all there equipment can rent to other sister companies and get revenue out of instead of just being in the workshop without any useful usage or productivity, it won’t stop by that only but will go to the contracts, legal, HR, etc. After implementing the solution and look to our demand graph, this free, perfect and instant unique communication app will allow the company immediately to see huge improvement on organization resilience which will reduce the time taken for any such request mentioned above from months to few days, organization will be more efficient, reduce cost by millions and millions meanwhile generate new business revenue by millions a well, enhance service customers loyalty and experience, improve decision making process, safety and security. this will impact directly the consumer surplus where the consumers who will be in this case the engineers will be willing to pay the gap based on the market preference and also avoiding the dead loss where the company will be financially and operationally more efficient. Not only that also transforming on people how they are communication through exchanging quickly photos expressing what they want to say, getting the attention quickly, make things faster in terms of decision that need to be taken through friends, families, and sometimes business as well with limitation. Digital is the only recourse and last hope for this industry to get out of its repeated pitfalls in the last decade and Intelligent Energy Platform will allow the industry and the whole value chain to be effectively integrated, tackle all the needs and requirements through Listen, understand, effect and decide to achieve a significant results, generate new jobs and roles and also will allow the industry to upturn again quickly and be able to face the upcoming expected and unexpected crisis. It's clear that the big players in the Energy industry are struggling because of several reasons but the most important factor is the digital path and develop digital solutions and one of the main issues is setting the right expectation which is related to the organizations, expectation and the experience across the whole ecosystem such operators, partners, vendors, etc. our Intelligent Energy Platform is focus on introducing an end-to-end platform solution focus on organization resilience, integrated technology, and completely agile complement by free, profit and instant app such as an infinity unique secured communication app, sharing experience business app, that focus on getting more and more networks to attract thousands and thousands of users and regain the trust and loyalty again in the industry. The unique secured communication app within the Intelligent Energy Platform which is n-sided with the engineers, service companies, management and business team will be zero-price quite close to the YouTube approach in terms of pricing strategy where it will be connecting n-sided with zero price and when it will expand it might be with negative price as well in which will allow 2/ 3 sided and even more to attract more users within the industries and enhance the service loyalty and quality, achieve one of the complex objective organization reliance, optimize performance, decision making and turn to data drive organization successfully and smoothly. Developing the Intelligent energy platform will allow our team to lead the platform approach in the Energy industry differently through free, profit and instant approach which will attract huge number of users who are looking for opportunities to gain the trust, loyalty again and feel secured. this will upturn the companies not only to find their ways throught the right approach but creating and developing new jobs and roles across the whole industry accompaniment significant contribution to the market revenue and profit.

Abstract:
The pharmaceutical industry is an important field of activity that contributes to the diagnosis, treatment, maintenance of the health of the population. The need of pharmaceuticals has led to an increase in both the number of drug manufacturers and the number of distributors. A significant part of the specialized studies deals with the problem of the profitability of the pharmaceutical industry. The study of the financial performance of the economic entities in the pharmaceutical field in Romania is a necessary concern in the conditions of a progressive annual increase of the profitability of this sector. The main purpose of this paper is the analysis and presentation of the evolution of profitability indicators (return on assets, return on capital, return on sales) as part of the activity of assessing the financial performance of economic entities operating in Romania in the pharmaceutical industry (manufacturing of basic pharmaceutical products - CAEN code 2110). Profitability indicators were analyzed for a number of 46 entities in the pharmaceutical industry in Romania for a period of 20 years (1999-2018). We are talking in this case about a turnover of 1.1 Billion lei (249.2 million euros), a number of employees of 3,098 employees, a profit of 135.2 million lei (30.7 million euros) - representing 0.12% of the net profit made in Romania. The research results show that in the period 2008-2009, the financial crisis left a strong mark on the evolution of profitability in the pharmaceutical industry. However, during the 20 years we talk about a positive evolution, in the sense of increasing the profitability of this field, which justifies the increase in the consumption of pharmaceuticals products.

Abstract:
Knowledge of the radiological state of processes and equipment of a nuclear facility is essential to supervise a wide variety of sensitive tasks: building of intervention scenarios in order to optimize maintenance or dismantling operations, optimization of waste categorization, monitoring the effectiveness of decontamination processes, monitoring of nuclear facility decommissioning, etc. In order to meet the diversity of the issues involved, the CEA has developed in situ radiological characterization methods and techniques to acquire reliable radiological data. The data gathered is necessary to build robust radiological models which can be used as input data for dismantling studies. Over the last 30 years, the main nuclear measurement techniques, such as gamma imaging and gamma spectrometry, have been widely deployed by the CEA on many facilities under dismantling and more recently, on the Phénix nuclear power plant. Phénix was a small-scale prototype of a sodium-cooled fast breeder reactor, located at the Marcoule nuclear site. These techniques have been implemented on this reactor in order to meet the increased need for radiological knowledge to prepare for future dismantling operations following its final shutdown in 2009. This paper will focus on the description of three radiological characterization methods which take advantage of advanced nuclear measurement techniques. For each method, an example of a specific application on the Phénix reactor will be presented. Firstly, the so-called “gamma scanning” method will be explained. The objective of this method is to determine the activity profile of equipment based on collimated gamma spectrometry measurements with compact probes like CdZnTe. This method was applied to a neutron shielding of the reactor core to estimate the 60Co activity profile. Then the measured activities helped to validate the theoretical activities resulting from neutron activation calculations. Secondly, this paper will focus on the interest of combining different measurement techniques such as gamma imaging, gamma spectrometry and collimated/uncollimated dose rate mapping to characterize complex equipment or processes. In this case, a specific methodology was developed to define the radiological state of a shielded cell used for the processing of irradiated nuclear fuels. Finally, an isotopic characterization technique using a high purity germanium detector will be discussed. This technique was applied to a non-irradiated fertile fuel sub-assembly in order to determine the level of uranium enrichment. The processing was carried out by three types of analysis: two automated, with the MGA-U and IGA software, and one manual.

Abstract:
Abstract This report presents the results of the 1998 Global New Product Development Survey, carried-out by the Warwick Manufacturing Group at the University of Warwick (UK). The survey is based on a questionnaire addressed to 637 firms with turnover greater than £ 30 million ($ 45 million), operating in the UK across key industrial sectors and engaged in New Product Development (NPD). Response rate was of 8%. Global NPD practices include product standardization, the strategy used to allocate NPD centers (related to business units and geographically), the level of centralization of tasks, the level of NPD outsourcing, the use of external collaboration and the use of Information Technology (IT) applications to support the NPD process. It was found that firms with products designed for global markets have about an 8 times greater potential to export than those firms who only standardize core components. Firms that collaborate more with external entities implement universal products more easily. Based on the “pretax profit in the last four years of business activity”, the respondent firms with losses have an average of 7 business sectors, whereas the top ten profitable firms have an average of only 4 business sectors, this relationship also applies to NPD activities. It was found that firms manage the collaborative ventures through either team members or team leaders and that top management involvement is only on a small scale. IT communication tools (e-mail and video-conferencing), followed by administration tools (project-planning and presentation software) are the main priorities in firms with widely distributed teams.

Abstract:
Travel arrangements and flight ticket booking via internet is widely used nowadays and follow already certain standards. Although increasing activity for multimedia/web education components can be observed, we are far away from standards in this important area. Statistics can possibly profit the most from e-learning since it requires a variety of skills including handling of quantitative data, graphical insights as well as mathematical ability. In this paper we take two positions – the student’s view and the teacher’s view – and discuss their relative coherence in order to propose standards for e-learning of statistics. The proposed standards are flexible with regard to content, multi-functionality, interactivity type, integration technology and design. Therefore the main focus may be directed on quality of e-learning tools in order to meet both teacher’s and student’s requirements. This is especially true for statistics which is taught in various disciplines. We present our thoughts and exemplify them via the e-learning/e-teaching tools MM*Stat, e-stat, MD*ReX and RExcel. The structure and the main characteristics of these multimedia tools will be explained. Then it will be described how such standards may be transferred to other cultures, languages or disciplines via the platform MD*Book.

Abstract:
Ansaldo Energia Low BTU engines have been accumulating more than 150000 EOH (Equivalent Operating Hours) burning low Btu Fuels on two different projects such as Isab Priolo and Elettra Servola. More over a new unit Ferrera Erbognone 3 has started to be commissioned in March 2006 burning syngas from tar gasification. This latter will be the first real commercial power plant in Italy to be operated without taking into account the high benefits once available according to the national law (CIP6/1992) specifically dealing with recovery fuel usage (alternative to natural gas). The end of the first phase of commissioning of Ferrera Erbognone 3 will give the opportunity to present the results achieved and to validate the burner design process for this specific power plant. In the IGCC gasifier island of Ferrera 3 power plant, it will be possible to separate hydrogen in variable quantity from the syngas according to the demands of the refinery located nearby the power plant, thus giving a high composition variability as output fuel. Also, if the maximum quantity of hydrogen will be separated, an integration with natural gas will be performed in order to get the maximum power output of the power plant. As a consequence, the syngas burner has been designed taking into account all the fuel characteristics depending on the different composition carried out. According to these, the burner has been optimised in order to fit the various syngas blends to be fuelled when running the engine. The paper describes the experience achieved during the commissioning activity prior to the commercial operation started in September 2006 highlighting the main results achieved with respect to the plant requirement. Furthermore a description of the functional improvement of the engine in order to face the unexpected off design conditions will be reported.

Abstract:
Drawing on thematic content analysis, this paper explores the legitimation repertoires employed by Romanian cosmetic surgeons in their in social media (Instagram) discourse. I argue that the main themes they use derive from their legitimation as psychotherapists operating for the well-being of their patients, and from their position of private medical services providers. Firstly, as surgeons need to reconcile their medical profession with the profit motive, their social media representations consist of their being shown in the avant-garde of progress as medical, and technical innovators. Their representation as innovators is legitimated as ultimately being beneficial for the patients’ surgical transformation. Secondly, their legitimation of the surgical interventions on healthy bodies draws its foundation from the psychological domain. The cosmetic surgery interventions are presented as being performed for the psychological well-being of the patient. Another dynamic that underlies this process is the pathologization of women’s bodies, in which traditionally surgeons play an important role on account of their power derived from their scientific authority. Lastly, in the context of a neoliberal consumer society, women have become informed-patient consumers. This development informs the legitimation repertoires of surgeons who willingly share their expertise with their patients. Consequently, their social media posts consist of content in which they aim to educate their audience by sharing various medical and technical aspects.

Abstract:
Politicians, activists, business-leaders and engineers alike all agree that future societal progress depends heavily on the development of sustainable cities and communities designed to achieve long-term environmental, social, and economic viability. A key factor that must be considered when planning for sustainable communities is the desirability for living and the productivity potential for industry and research. At the foundation of both is energy — from generation through transmission to consumption. Innovations and novel designs at all levels within a community — from individual buildings to system-wide infrastructure — will allow homes and offices to operate without noticeable sacrifice of comfort and convenience. An interdisciplinary team of professors and graduate students at Cornell University has formed to address the energy challenges of transforming Cornell University campus into a sustainable community. Cornell University’s main campus in Ithaca, NY is uniquely situated to serve as a model for validation and implementation of an advanced electricity infrastructure, commonly known as a Smart Grid. The campus owns and operates its electricity infrastructure powered by a combination of renewable energy, coal production and other electricity purchased from independent providers. In addition, similar to other communities, Cornell has a variety of building types, each having its unique energy consumption profile and thus providing great opportunities for interaction between buildings. This can prove to be very beneficial in our validation as all communities have variable load profiles. With new capital expenditures for new infrastructure, we expect to see a great reduction in energy costs and lowered operation costs resulting from the implementation of smart-grid in the present electric grid. Moreover, introducing demand response schemes, one of the major components of a smart-grid, would allow the community to incorporate more renewable energy sources into its energy mix, increase energy efficiency, and achieve significant monetary savings.

Kelly, Luke. Definitions, Characteristics and Monitoring of Conflict Economies. Institute of Development Studies (IDS), February 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.19088/k4d.2022.024.

Full text
Abstract:
The idea of conflict economies is a broad concept encompassing several research angles. Definitions differ according to these focuses. Some of the main uses of the concept are to understand: • economic analysis of the motives for and likelihood of war • financing of state and non-state belligerents • how the continuation of conflicts can be explained by rational motives including economic ones • how conflict affects economic activity, and how conflict parties and citizens adapt Some distinctive characteristics of war economies are (Ballentine & Nitzschke, 2005, p. 12): • They involve the destruction or circumvention of the formal economy and the growth of informal and black markets, • Pillage, predation, extortion, and deliberate violence against civilians is used by combatants to acquire control over lucrative assets, capture trade networks and diaspora remittances, and exploit labour; • War economies are highly decentralised and privatised, both in the means of coercion and in the means of production and exchange; • Combatants increasingly rely on the licit or illicit exploitation of / trade in lucrative natural resources • They thrive on cross-border trading networks, regional kin and ethnic groups, arms traffickers, and mercenaries, as well as legally operating commercial entities, each of which may have a vested interest in the continuation of conflict and instability. The first section of this rapid review outlines the evolution of the term and key definitions. Most of this discussion occurs in the academic literature around the early 2000s. The second looks at key characteristics of conflict economies identified in the literature, with examples where possible from both academic and grey literature. The third section briefly identifies methodologies used to measure and monitor conflict economies, as well as some current research and programmes on conflict economies, from academic literature as well as NGOs and other sources. The findings have been derived via a literature search and advice from experts in the field. Given time constraints, the report is not comprehensive. The review is gender- and disability blind.
