Abstract:
Scoping reviews are an increasingly popular knowledge synthesis method. While knowledge synthesis methods abound in evidence-based practices, these methods are critiqued for their reliance on positivism. Drawing on a scoping review that mapped scholarly conceptualizations of family caregivers’ information-related dementia care work, in this article, I reconcile institutional ethnography’s epistemological and ontological assumptions with the prescribed scoping review framework. I first explore the textual organization of scoping reviews. I then unpack the process of modifying three scoping review stages in keeping with an institutional ethnography method of inquiry, and in doing so, transform the scoping review into a critical knowledge synthesis tool. Through a reflexive process, I deconstruct scoping review’s textual authority and uncover that scoping reviews bring about a double decontextualization of family caregivers’ information work, removing family caregivers from their experiences of their information-related care work while simultaneously reducing them to objects of techno-scientific interventions.

Abstract:
This scoping review identifies the roles of non-textual elements and how these roles have changed in sustaining the teaching and learning of English as an additional language (EAL) in the last five years. Much of the research regarding non-textual elements has shown that they have significantly contributed to learners’ motivation, active participation, and communication. However, a systematic synthesis of how these roles have changed over the last five years, in terms of the types of non-textual elements used as a result of the growing access to technologies, is lacking. Following Arksey and O’Malley’s framework, a scoping review of 50 studies from 2018 to 2022 was carried out, filtered from the ERIC, Scopus, and Google Scholar databases. The studies were compiled considering two characteristics: the roles and types of non-textual elements in enhancing English as a second language (ESL)/English as a foreign language (EFL) in classrooms. The results show that 29 out of the 50 studies used non-textual elements in complementary roles and 21 studies used them in supplementary roles to enhance the teaching and learning of ESL and EFL in recent years. Educators prefer to utilize non-textual elements in dominantly complementary roles rather than supplementary roles to create a sustainable EAL (ESL and EFL) learning environment. Non-textual elements help learners capture and recall information far longer than texts alone. A revised dual method using non-textual elements in a combination of both supplementary and complementary roles, and also utilizing both technologically driven and traditional approaches, is the way forward in sustaining effective EAL learning

Abstract:
Infographics deal with representing data or information visually in a perceptually compelling manner. Recently, infographics have gained widespread popularity, giving rise to automated infographics synthesis from texts. Our research follows an ontological approach to automatically extract the necessary indicators from an input sentence and synthesize an infographic corresponding to it. This work includes (1) the creation of a dataset, (2) an end-to-end domain-agnostic framework, and (3) demonstrating the application of the proposed framework. The results demonstrate our framework's ability to extract the necessary textual cues from real-world textual descriptions (from various domains) and synthesize meaningful infographics.

Abstract:
The relevance of the study is determined by the need to rethink musical art as a value orientation in the period of postmodernity. The purpose of the study is to determine the features of the textual dimension of musical discourse as a feature of the postmodern value perception of musical art in combination with the information and computerization of society. The purpose of the article is to show the basic context of the textual dimension of musical discourse. This research shows a holistic analysis of musical art in the context of discourse analysis and innovative modeling, which in the future is a prospect for creating new ideas for the interpretation of musical works. The study highlights the main components of textual analysis of a musical work, as well as the perception of musical discourse as a manifestation of today’s information of social development. For a comprehensive analysis of musical art it is necessary to understand the basic theoretical and methodological approaches to the study of this concept. Therefore, the principal theoretical approaches of scientists concerning musical discourse in the context of the textual dimension were studied, and theoretical problems in musical discourse analysis were developed. Beneficial to study the complex modeling of the textual dimension of musical art, the methods of analysis and synthesis, research method and discourse analysis method were used. This study provided a basis for determining the effectiveness of computer simulation technology in the context of the musical dimension.

Abstract:
A use case is a specification of interactions involving a system and external actors of that system. The intuitive, user centered nature of textual use cases is one of the reasons for the success of the use case approach. A certain level of formalization is however needed to automate use case based system development, including tasks such as design synthesis, verification and validation. In this paper, a mapping from textual use cases to a formal model (Petri nets) is proposed. Use cases are described in a restricted-form of natural language. The abstract syntax of the language is formally defined using a tuple structure. The mapping from use cases to Petri nets considers use cases sequencing constraints defined at the syntactic-level, and provides a definition of execution semantics to use cases.

Abstract:
We produce results that bridge the gap between physical and textual study of the ancient Mesopotamian landscape in the region south and west of the city of Uruk (Biblical Erech, Modern Warka). A brief survey of gazetteers of Mesopotamia, volumes listing place-names drawn from translated and published cuneiform texts from the 2nd and 1st Millennium BCE, are presented. The various gazetteers were reviewed for relevant place-names, and the results were recorded and analyzed. These are described in detail below, as are their implications. The resulting data are then compared to the results of a recently completed archaeological survey of the same region. The synthesis of textual and archaeological surveys indicates a more exacting methodology to add geographic objectivity to textual results, while connecting physical results to the qualitative detail available within the Uruk textual record. More broadly, we demonstrate how long-term historical records align with archaeological data, delineating state-level and local land use efforts around a major Mesopotamian city. In the 2nd millennium BCE, settlements were generally small but more numerous, but in the 1st Millennium BCE there was a shift towards fewer and larger settlements connected to the city of Uruk. These shifts reflect deliberate central, government policy and local responses.

Abstract:
This article describes a set of “textual” technological practices that have been emerging over the past decade in the work of underground electroacoustic and computer music composers, focusing particularly on Florian Hecker and Russell Haswell. Guided by methodological insights from the field of software studies, the article zooms in on two computer programs, PulsarGenerator and GENDYN, presenting a genealogical analysis of them as cultural objects and outlining how these lines of descent are aestheticized in their works. In the hands of these artists, sound synthesis procedures carry an author function, and this transgresses both their legal status as technological “inventions” rather than texts, as well as their ontological status in the electroacoustic music genre. Combined with a compositional focus on “sounding” the materiality of these technologies—the particular affordances, limitations, and quirks of their operative functioning—this textual practice contributes to a new aesthetic, one that challenges the prevailing logic of secrecy, alchemy, and semblance in this music. Using the notion of “ontological politics” inherited from science and technology studies, I show how these practices highlight zones of contestation over electroacoustic music’s ontology.

Abstract:
Given limited handwriting scripts, humans can easily visualize (or imagine) what the handwritten words/texts would look like with other arbitrary textual contents. Moreover, a person also is able to imitate the handwriting styles of provided reference samples. Humans can do such hallucinations, perhaps because they can learn to disentangle the calligraphic styles and textual contents from given handwriting scripts. However, computers cannot study to do such flexible handwriting imitation with existing techniques. In this paper, we propose a novel handwriting imitation generative adversarial network (HiGAN) to mimic such hallucinations. Specifically, HiGAN can generate variable-length handwritten words/texts conditioned on arbitrary textual contents, which are unconstrained to any predefined corpus or out-of-vocabulary words. Moreover, HiGAN can flexibly control the handwriting styles of synthetic images by disentangling calligraphic styles from the reference samples. Experiments on handwriting benchmarks validate our superiority in terms of visual quality and scalability when comparing to the state-of-the-art methods for handwritten word/text synthesis. The code and pre-trained models can be found at https://github.com/ganji15/HiGAN.

Abstract:
The morphology of ZSM-5 zeolite impacts the adsorption, separation and diffusion of molecules. The morphology and textural properties of ZSM-5 zeolites were adjusted by regulating the content of ethanol in the synthesis gel. When the ratio of ethanol/SiO2 was lower than 2, the obtained crystals were isolated particles. With higher ethanol concentration, the chainlike zeolite was generated due to the condensation of terminal Si-OH groups. The crystals stacked more and more compactly with the increase in ethanol concentration, resulting in decreased specific surface area, total volume and mesoporous volume. The crystal size increased gradually with the increase in the ethanol concentration. Moreover, some other small molecular alcohols could also induce the formation of chainlike morphology of ZSM-5.

Abstract:
Dementia affects individuals, families and their relationships. While there is increasing evidence about the experiences of family caregivers of people with dementia, relatively little is known of their experiences when their relatives are living in nursing homes with dementia. This narrative literature review aimed to synthesise current knowledge about family caregivers’ experience of having relatives living in nursing homes with advanced dementia, particularly focussing on community-dwelling spouses. Using a systematic approach, textual narrative synthesis was undertaken. Four themes were identified: changing relationships, the need for companionship, adjusting to new roles and relationships and anticipating death/looking towards the future. Two additional themes were present only for spouses: changing identity – feeling married, being married; and alone but… The review demonstrates that some aspects of spouses’ experiences are different from those of other family caregivers. Longitudinal studies are required to better understand spouses’ motivations to continue caring in this context and to find ways of supporting them.

It can be challenging to decide which evidence synthesis software to choose when doing a systematic review. This article discusses some of the important questions to consider in relation to the chosen method and synthesis approach. Software can support researchers in a range of ways. Here, a range of review conditions and software solutions. For example, facilitating contemporaneous collaboration across time and geographical space; in-built bias assessment tools; and line-by-line coding for qualitative textual analysis. EPPI-Reviewer is a review software for research synthesis managed by the EPPI-centre, UCL Institute of Education. EPPI-Reviewer has text mining automation technologies. Version 5 supports data sharing and re-use across the systematic review community. Open source software will soon be released. EPPI-Centre will continue to offer the software as a cloud-based service. The software is offered via a subscription with a one-month (extendible) trial available and volume discounts for ‘site licences’. It is free to use for Cochrane and Campbell reviews. The next EPPI-Reviewer version is being built in collaboration with National Institute for Health and Care Excellence using ‘surveillance’ of newly published research to support ‘living’ iterative reviews. This is achieved using a combination of machine learning and traditional information retrieval technologies to identify the type of research each new publication describes and determine its relevance for a particular review, domain or guideline. While the amount of available knowledge and research is constantly increasing, the ways in which software can support the focus and relevance of data identification are also developing fast. Software advances are maximising the opportunities for the production of relevant and timely reviews.

Abstract:
The article presents the results of a comparative textual analysis of the Bible of Herman de Valenciennes (end of the 12th c.) and Lily, an anonymous Icelandic biblical paraphrase (the first half of the 14th c). The main thesis of the article is that Herman’s Bible served as a reference point for the skald of Lily, who took over from Herman the idea and general logic of the narrative and, apparently, was familiar with the version of Herman’s text, recorded in the manuscript Paris, BnF, fr. 2162. An essential aspect of the comparative textual analysis of Lily and Herman’s Bible is the relation of the compared texts to the national poetic traditions. While Herman immerses the audience in the atmosphere of the French heroic epic, the skald of Lily alludes to oral traditions of Iceland. Despite the composition that brings Lily closer to the skaldic drapa, Lily belongs not to the skaldic tradition, but to the European tradition of vernacular theology and is a synthesis of the elements of form and content, borrowed from various poetic traditions, both continental and national.

Abstract:
The aim of this paper is to investigate the influence of European culture on the formation of Ukrainian literature of the 14th-16th centuries. It is emphasized that the paradigm of Ukrainian Renaissance literature is a synthesis of original native ideas and Western European culture. The specific of Ukrainian boundary is represented in the absence of Ukrainian state, confessional pluralism, multilingualism, syncretic character, the popularity of humanism, and anthropocentrism. The identification boundary identity as a key feature of the Ukrainian Renaissance literature is also based on geopolitical location of the country. Methods used in the study: general scientific method (synthesis and generalization), systematic functional, textual method, and systematic descriptive. The comparative-typological and philological methods are used for the analysis of works where the border identity is represented. It is also applied the principles of socio-cultural and historical-typological analysis. The determining factor in the work is the historical and literary approach, which is based on the synthesis of cultural theories and literary analysis.

The article primarily deals with a textual connection between two admonitory texts 4QSapiential Admonitions B (4Q185) and 4QAdmonition on the Flood (4Q370). Beside the existence of this connection very little has been done to explore it and even the direction of the influence is still open to question. This connection will be thoroughly analyzed here, in order to appreciate fully its importance for understanding the purpose of the fragmentary individual texts and the applied editing practices. It will be shown that 4QAdmonition on the Flood was one of the main sources used in the composition of 4QSapiential Admonitions B that was radically edited (e. g., additions, omissions and recontextualizing) and combined with Proverbial wisdom traditions. The purpose of this editorial activity was to create a synthesis out of the more traditional wisdom thinking and the Torah-oriented deuteronomic parenesis, as was also done by, for example, Ben Sira in his own wisdom composition around the same time period.

Abstract:
Given the growth of scientific literature on the web, particularly material science, acquiring data precisely from the literature has become more significant. Material information systems, or chemical information systems, play an essential role in discovering data, materials, or synthesis processes using the existing scientific literature. Processing and understanding the natural language of scientific literature is the backbone of these systems, which depend heavily on appropriate textual content. Appropriate textual content means a complete, meaningful sentence from a large chunk of textual content. The process of detecting the beginning and end of a sentence and extracting them as correct sentences is called sentence boundary extraction. The accurate extraction of sentence boundaries from PDF documents is essential for readability and natural language processing. Therefore, this study provides a comparative analysis of different tools for extracting PDF documents into text, which are available as Python libraries or packages and are widely used by the research community. The main objective is to find the most suitable technique among the available techniques that can correctly extract sentences from PDF files as text. The performance of the used techniques Pypdf2, Pdfminer.six, Pymupdf, Pdftotext, Tika, and Grobid is presented in terms of precision, recall, f-1 score, run time, and memory consumption. NLTK, Spacy, and Gensim Natural Language Processing (NLP) tools are used to identify sentence boundaries. Of all the techniques studied, the Grobid PDF extraction package using the NLP tool Spacy achieved the highest f-1 score of 93% and consumed the least amount of memory at 46.13 MegaBytes.

Abstract:
PurposeBusiness failure has evolved a major research domain, both of corporate finance generally and of construction management, equally. Much of this attention has focused on assessing business “health” to predict longevity, but less so, on causal agents of failure. The aim of this study is to synthesise published knowledge in the subject domain to explore construction failure agents.Design/methodology/approachExtant literature drawn from both corporate finance and construction management disciplines are synthesised. Subjective, textual analysis is undertaken and causal agents thematically grouped. A failure relationship model is derived that conceptualises construction business failure in relation to its operating universe.FindingsGeneric failure agents (GFA) (ordered, based on percentage frequency among the literature observed) are shown to be: managerial, financial, company characteristics, and macroeconomic. The first three are proffered to reciprocally interact within a “universe” defined by the latter. Numerous sub‐causal agents (SCA) are attributed to each generic agent. The role of innovation is suggested to hold potential negative (as well as positive) impacts on mitigating GFA and SCA.Research limitations/implicationsLimitations relate to synthesis of contemporary published evidence, so a progressive iteration would be empirical study of identified agents within live construction environments. An implication is the call for research realignment; from emphasis on business health assessment, to that of root causal agents.Practical implicationsAdvancement of theory relating to business failure has significant implications for construction management research.Originality/valueThe failure relationship model and its linkage to innovation is novel.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to give a comprehensive review and synthesis of automated textual analysis of corporate disclosure to show how the accuracy of disclosure tone has been incremented with the evolution of developed automated methods that have been used to calculate tone in prior studies. Design/methodology/approach This study have conducted the survey on “automated textual analysis of corporate disclosure and its impact” by searching at Google Scholar and Scopus research database after the year 2000 to prepare the list of papers. After classifying the prior literature into a dictionary-based and machine learning-based approach, this study have again sub-classified those papers according to two other dimensions, namely, information sources of disclosure and the impact of tone on the market. Findings This study found literature on how value relevance of tone is varied with the use of different automated methods and using different information sources. This study also found literature on the impact of such tone on market. These are contributing to help investor’s decision-making and earnings and returns prediction by researchers. The literature survey shows that the research gap lies in the development of methodologies toward the calculation of tone more accurately. This study also mention how different information sources and methodologies can influence the change in disclosure tone for the same firm, which, in turn, may change market performance. The research gap also lies in finding the determinants of disclosure tone with large scale data. Originality/value After reviewing some papers based on automated textual analysis of corporate disclosure, this study shows how the accuracy of the result is incrementing according to the evolution of automated methodology. Apart from the methodological research gaps, this study also identify some other research gaps related to determinants (corporate governance, firm-level, macroeconomic factors, etc.) and transparency or credibility of disclosure which could stimulate new research agendas in the areas of automated textual analysis of corporate disclosure.

AbstractIn many regions of the ancient Near East, not least in Upper Mesopotamia, Syria and Anatolia where agriculture relied mainly on rainfall, storm-gods ranked among the most prominent gods in the local panthea or were even regarded as divine kings, ruling over the gods and bestowing kingship on the human ruler. While the Babylonian and Assyrian storm-god never held the highest position among the gods, he too belongs to the group of 'great gods' through most periods of Mesopotamian history. Given the many cultural contacts and the longevity of traditions in the ancient Near East only a study that takes into account all relevant periods, regions and text-groups can further our understanding of the different ancient Near Eastern storm-gods. The study Wettergottgestalten Mesopotamiens und Nordsyriens by the present author (2001) tried to tackle the problems involved, basing itself primarily on the textual record and excluding the genuinely Anatolian storm-gods from the study. Given the lack of handbooks, concordances and thesauri in our field, the book is necessarily heavily burdened with materials collected for the first time. Despite comprehensive indices, the long lists and footnotes as well as the lack of an overall synthesis make the study not easily accessible, especially outside the German-speaking community. In 2003 Alberto Green published a comprehensive monograph entitled The Storm-God in the Ancient Near East whose aims are more ambitious than those of Wettergottgestalten: All regions of the ancient Near East—including a chapter on Yahwe as a storm-god—are taken into account, and both textual and iconographic sources are given equal space. Unfortunately this book, which was apparently finished and submitted to the publisher before Wettergottgestalten came to its author's attention, suffers from some serious flaws with regard to methodology, philology and the interpretation of texts and images. In presenting the following succinct overview I take the opportunity to make up for the missing synthesis in Wettergottgestalten and to provide some additions and corrections where necessary. It is hoped that this synthesis can also serve as a response to the history of ancient Near Eastern storm-gods as outlined by A. Green.

Abstract:
The author is attempting to comprehend the cultural-evolutionary role of textual activity in the process of anthropo-socio-genesis; and to understand the place of the text in the global evolutionary-constructivistic / anthropocosmistic paradigm «text — culture — Universe». The signs of an «anthropocosmistic turn» in modern science and textual are revealed, which is linked with comprehending the laws of Universal similarity / «world-likeness» (M. M. Bakhtin) and the search for the anthropocosmistic origins of human activity, primarily textual. The theoretical and methodological foundations of the anthropocosmistic study of the text are revealed. Anthropocosmism actualizes the highest cultural ontologies of textual activity and creates an adequate metasystem methodological support on the deep ethical foundations of its criterion-categorical complex. The theoretical and methodological foundations of the anthropocosmistic study of language, culture and text are revealed. An attempt is made to carry out a metatheoretical synthesis of the scientific heritage of the thinkers of the Russian school of philosophy of the XX-XXI centuries. S. S. Averintsev, O. S. Anisimov, M. M. Bakhtin, V. I. Vernadsky, L. N. Gumilyov, D. S. Likhachev, A. F. Losev, Yu.M. Lotman, N. N. Moiseev, P. A. Florensky, N. G. Kholodny, A. K. Chizhevsky. The latest developments of modern scientists in the natural sciences and humanities are analyzed, proving the «world-likeness» of the language and its involvement in genetic-cultural co-evolution (in cultural concepts called cumulative cultural evolution, in the concepts of Russian cosmism called «ascending evolution»). The author takes the first steps towards the development of an actual anthropocosmistic methodology for text analysis, synthesizing traditional approaches and the latest scientific data on the unity of anthropic and cosmic principles in the Universe. The evolutionary-constructivist possibilities of anthropocosmism as a paradigm for the study of the highest cultural ontology of textual activity are actualized. The basis of metasystemic methodological support of text research is being created on the deep ethical foundations of the anthropocosmistic criterial-categorical complex, which meets the reqirements of modern culture and the humanistic demand of mankind at the current stage of anthroposocial genesis. The socio-evolutionary role of language, the laws of its «worldlikeness» (universal unity) are disclosed through the unity of the anthropic and cosmic principles. The ability to detect in the text a «linguized» cultural cosmologos — textual linguaculture — is the essence of the anthropocosmistic study of the text. The methodology of «detecting» in the text its culturally significant experience and the technology of defining the evolutionary-constructive potential of the text, i.e. the ability to take a look at the text through the prism of textual linguaculture allows one to see in the text the “higher spirit of the language”, the cultural «cosmos», embodied in the form of a text in order to transfer evolutionary cultural experience.

Abstract:
A mesostructured zirconium oxide was synthesized hydrothermally using cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as the structure-directing agent and ZrSO4. 4H2O as the reactant. Subsequent post-synthetic treatment with H3PO4followed by the treatment with AlCl3solutions resulted in mesoporous Zr-P-Al materials, which exhibited high BET specific surface area before calcination. The phosphoric acid concentrationaffected the textual data of the resulting Zr-P and Zr-P-Al materials greatly. 0.1-0.5 M H3PO4increased obviously the long-range order of the as-synthesized Zr-P materials while 0.76 M H3PO4decreased it. After calcination at 773 K, the Zr-P materials turned to nonporous materials except the one synthesized by 0.5 M H3PO4, which showed micropores with a BET specific surface area of 147 m2/g. Further treating the Zr-P materials (synthesized from different concentration of phosphoric acid) with the same amount of AlCl3solution resulted in mesoporous Zr-P-Al materials, but the long-range order of which decreased when the H3PO4concentration increased. Similarly, the BET specific surface area of the above-mentioned Zr-P-Al materials decreased from 462 m2/g for 0.25 M H3PO4to 394 m2/g for 0.5 M H3PO4and finally to 332 m2/g for 0.76 M H3PO4after calcination at 773 K, while the pore size increased gradually from 3.0 to 3.5 nm. It was found that about 90% of the CTAB had been removed during the AlCl3treatment and that the as-synthesized Zr-P-Al materials exhibited high BET specific surface area as well as mesopores. The AlCl3amount is another factor affecting the textual data of the uncalcined Zr-P-Al materials besides the H3PO4concentration. With the phosphoric acid concentration of 0.25 M, the BET specific surface area of the as-synthesized Zr-P-Al materials increased from 477 m2/g to as high as 734 m2/g with the increasing AlCl3amount before it decreased from then on.

Abstract:
This article aims to determine a close "polyphonic" connection between lyrics and music in choral music. The subject of this research is the synergism of literary-textual sources and polyphonic form. The object of this research is the consideration of polyphonic works for a cappella chorus by the contemporary Russian composers. Using the synthesis of research methods, which includes musicology, poetics and choral studies, the author reveals the parameters of a musical composition: literary-textual source and musical form. Detailed analysis is conducted on the dialectical interaction of constructive and destructive formants of the architectonics of musical form of polyphonic compositions for chorus. Special attention is given to differentiation of the structure of the literary-textual source and attribution of the polyphonic forms of motet, madrigal, fugue, and fugato. The main conclusion lies in the paradigm of artistic correlations between the literary and musical text as paralinguistic means that are the bearers of heterogeneous information and add additional colors to the content of the composition. Emphasis is placed on the need to explore the problematic associated with the architectonics of modern choral composition, substantiated not only by the general artistic-historical potential of choral culture, but its crucial importance for modern musical art as well. The novelty lies in the analysis of polyphonic forms of a cappella choral works as multimodal texts, synthesizing the scientific achievements of linguistics and musicology. The author’s special contribution consists in examination of the compositions for a cappella chorus of A. Koroleva and Y. Evgrafov that have not previously been the object of special research, and their introduction to modern scientific discourse.

Abstract:
Pauline theology is a well-established undertaking in modern New Testament studies, and yet it is almost entirely without precedent prior to the nineteenth century. This article explores the enterprise of Pauline theology by considering an important and overlooked exception to its otherwise exclusively modern provenance: Priscillian of Avila's fourth-centuryCanons on the Letters of the Apostle Paul. The key to Priscillian's dogmatic synthesis of Paul's thought was his innovative ‘versification’ of Paul's letters, which facilitated efficient citation and cross-referencing of epistolary data. This article uses Priscillian's literary creation to examine the intriguing correlation of technologies for ordering textual knowledge with the systematic abstraction of Pauline theology.

Comic art in Thailand is treated from macro and micro perspectives, beginning with a brief history of, and contemporary insights about, the politics and economics of cartooning. Because political cartoonists have figured prominently in the country's often turbulent times, they are discussed in sections that highlight their professional concerns and their relationship with the government. The background and current status of the comic book industry is also presented, ending with a case study of the largest comics publisher in Thailand, Bun Lour Sarn.

Abstract:
The history of reading can link intellectual and cultural developments with social or political change in the eighteenth century. Historians of the book increasingly argue that an understanding of historical reading practices is essential if we are to understand the impact of texts on individuals and on society as a whole: textual evidence alone is inadequate. Recent work on eighteenth-century readers has used sources including book trade records, correspondence, and diaries to reconstruct the reading lives of individuals and of groups of readers. Such sources reveal the great variety of reading material many eighteenth-century readers could access, and the diversity and sophistication of reading practices they often employed, in selecting between a range of available reading strategies. Thus, any one theoretical paradigm is unlikely to capture the full range of eighteenth-century reading experience. Instead, we can trace the evolution of particular reading cultures, including popular and literary reading cultures, the existence of cultures based around particular genres of print, such as newspapers, and reading as a part of social and conversational life. There is now a need for a new synthesis that combines the new evidence of reading practice with textual analysis to explain continuity and change across the century.

Background: Normalization Process Theory (NPT) identifies mechanisms that have been demonstrated to play an important role in implementation processes. It is now widely used to inform feasibility, process evaluation, and implementation studies in healthcare and other areas of work. This qualitative synthesis of NPT studies aims to better understand how NPT explains observed and reported implementation processes, and to explore the ways in which its constructs explain the implementability, enacting and sustainment of complex healthcare interventions. Methods: We will systematically search Scopus, PubMed and Web of Science databases and use the Google Scholar search engine for citations of key papers in which NPT was developed. This will identify English language peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals reporting (a) primary qualitative or mixed methods studies; or, (b) qualitative or mixed methods evidence syntheses in which NPT was the primary analytic framework. Studies may be conducted in any healthcare setting, published between June 2006 and 31 December 2021. We will perform a qualitative synthesis of included studies using two parallel methods: (i) directed content analysis based on an already developed coding manual; and (ii) unsupervised textual analysis using Leximancer® topic modelling software. Other: We will disseminate results of the review using peer reviewed publications, conference and seminar presentations, and social media (Facebook and Twitter) channels. Abstract:
Developmental and connectionist research describing a student's development of competent reading and writing skills commonly evokes the image of a normative ladder to literacy. Each rung of the ladder is believed to constitute certain sets of increasingly complex subskills. It is believed that cognitive mastery is required prior to the next step up the ladder. For people labeled with severe mental retardation, subskill mastery is often considered an intellectual impossibility. Hence, literacy is denied. In this research synthesis, however, we suggest that people with severe intellectual limitations can be understood as symbolic, and specific literacy skills can be supported. We use the term research synthesis to describe the textual weaving of two sources of understanding: (a) qualitative stories garnered from six students who were research participants and (b) published autobiographical and biographical stories by people with disabilities or their parents. These two sources of understanding underscore that a deeply caring relationship characterized by intimacy is of central importance when constructing as symbolic and literate a person labeled as having severe mental retardation.

Abstract The article presents an analysis of the phenomenon of “clip thinking” in the educational and cognitive activities of students of natural and physical-mathematical educational profile. The involvement of clip thinking in the initial stage of cognition in comparison with rational and theoretical thinking is theoretically substantiated. An empirical verification of the originality of cognitive processes of students of natural and physical-mathematical educational profile in the situation of comparing traditional linear (textual) and hypertextual way of presenting information is established. Deficiency of cognitive processes characteristic of clip thinking for results is revealed, which is characterized by characteristics of mental (theoretical) level of cognition. Therefore, the next stage of cognition should be the understanding of information through the mechanisms of comparison, generalization, categorization and re-synthesis.

Abstract:
A comparison of a 1971 popular song, Eric Bogle’s “And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda” with a 1935 poem, Hugh MacDiarmid’s “At the Cenotaph,” enables this article to produce a transnational, trans-genre and trans-historical discourse analysis of memories of the Great War of 1914-1918. While an ethonosymbolic approach allows for the discovery of resemblances and continuities, Nietzschean genealogy criticizes such monumental, associative views of the past and focuses instead on the casual connections between disperse moments in time. Critical discourse analysis, in turn, offers a possible synthesis by distinguishing historical narrative structures, cultural practices (the Anzac parades and cenotaphs to honor the heroic dead), and textual events, in this case the satirical representation of the Great War in later song and poetry.

Abstract:
This paper is based on the assumption that narratives are ongoing experiences, actions and processes that take place during the Colonial period. On these grounds, two narrative texts from the beginnings of the colonial formation period will be discussed. Narratives during this period when a vernacular, creole consciousness was being shaped are coherent with the narrations found in travel journals, relaciones and chronicles. A synthesis of factual and fictional discourses arises in these texts that represent not only the identity transformations of the Indian Spanish individual but also the emerging local, creole subjectivity that defines the new culture and its relations with indigenous world. We suggest a first stage in this cultural synthesis that includes two texts that have not been addressed literary and historiographic studies: Naufragios [1542] by Alvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca and Infortunios de Alonso Ramírez [1690] by Carlos de Sigüenza. These two founding narratives used a factual discourse that masked the fictional strategies that were later included in the textual practices that characterize the literatures of the Americas.

Abstract:
Many educators in the United States are advocates for the education profession; however, little is known about K-12 perceptions of advocacy. This article systematically scoped the literature on the types of articles that have been written on educator advocacy that include information on teacher perceptions and attitudes. A systematic scoping literature review, combined descriptive synthesis, and textual narrative synthesis were completed. A total of 9,051 articles were identified by the search strategy. Of these, 18 were included for analysis and synthesis. Twelve articles were qualitative, three were mixed methods, and three were quantitative. Articles were categorized according to research objective types, educator population types, and occurring themes. This systematic scoping review revealed gaps in the literature on the subject. Gaps included studies with small sample sizes generally limited to single academic institutions or locations. Additionally, most study results were not generalizable to larger populations, and no studies were written solely to determine educators’ perceptions of advocacy for the education profession. Studies that used quantitative methods had the highest quality and validity, and the highest quality qualitative studies were those that used multiple qualitative methods. Future studies would benefit from focusing on educators’ perceptions of advocacy for the education profession to determine what might motivate educators to be advocates.

Subsequently, in the years 2012 and 2013 small-scale geophysical prospections were carried out to assess the preservation of structural remains at the site. The investigation yielded evidence belonging to two main occupational phases. A large quantity – and wide variety – of Late Antique materials indicate the presence of a substantial settlement, that is alluded to in historical and textual evidence as well. For the High Medieval period (12th century AD) evidence was obtained for the production of pottery (ceramica a bande rosse) and lime, possibly forming part of the economic basis of a larger (private or ecclesiastical) estate.

Abstract:
Subject. When evaluating enterprises, maximum accuracy and comprehensiveness of analysis are important, although the use of various indicators of organization’s financial condition and external factors provide a sufficiently high accuracy of forecasting. Many researchers are increasingly focusing on the natural language processing to analyze various text sources. This subject is extremely relevant against the needs of companies to quickly and extensively analyze their activities. Objectives. The study aims at exploring the natural language processing methods and sources of textual information about companies that can be used in the analysis, and developing an approach to the analysis of textual information. Methods. The study draws on methods of analysis and synthesis, systematization, formalization, comparative analysis, theoretical and methodological provisions contained in domestic and foreign scientific works on text analysis, including for purposes of company evaluation. Results. I offer and test an approach to using non-numeric indicators for company analysis. The paper presents a unique model, which is created on the basis of existing developments that have shown their effectiveness. I also substantiate the use of this approach to analyze a company’s condition and to include the analysis results in models for overall assessment of the state of companies. Conclusions. The findings improve scientific and practical understanding of techniques for the analysis of companies, the ways of applying text analysis, using machine learning. They can be used to support management decision-making to automate the analysis of their own and other companies in the market, with which they interact.

Abstract:
The paper examines the problem of textual/cultural dynamics linked to the issue of semiotic literariness, to be further investigated by the authors in later papers on literary semiotics. This scientific project aims to get closer to reaching an adequate disciplinary identification for semiotics of literature and a relatively precise definition of the status of this field in relation to semiotics of culture. The first step for the project is to reveal the interrelationhip between text and culture using the notion of dynamics that can be reconstructed from a historical perspective through some essential components of Formalist and Structuralist theory (Tynyanov’s ‘function’, Jakobson’s ‘dominant’) and also works by Lotman (the ‘text–culture’ relationship) and Bakhtin (‘dialogue’). The notions of inclusiveness/integration, distancing and hierarchization, leading to transformation, are interpreted in some detail in the context of these theories. On these grounds, three basic categories of the analysability of textual/cultural dynamics are set up with the indication of further aspects of the dynamic function: (1) mediation; (2) transposition; (3) temporality–spatiality. The suggested classification and the implied conceptual segmentation are expected to contribute to a synthesis between “Structuralist” and Peircean theoretical and methodological orientations in semiotic literary studies. This also reveals the need for a coexistence of approaches (a) moving from particular cultural fields (literary culture tradition) towards general semiotics of culture, and (b) returning from universal transfield concepts to literary culture, including the historical traditions both in art (object-level) and its scientific interpretation (meta-level).

Abstract:
What is the relationship between poetry and scholarship? What can poetry add to the sum of knowledge that scholarship might not? Conceived as a coda to my 2013 study, Piecing Together the Fragments: Translating Classical Verse, Creating Contemporary Poetry, “The Library versus The Lyre” applies the same methods of critical discussion of, and commentary on, my practice as a poet and classical translator to my latest collection, The Paths of Survival (2017). This collection comprises a poetic sequence which moves backwards in time from the present-day to antiquity as it explores the fragility of the written word; how it is destroyed and how it can endure, often in surprising ways, against all odds. In particular, it focuses on the ten tiny scraps of Aeschylus’s play Myrmidons all that now remains of his tragic masterpiece written in the fifth century BCE— commencing with a tiny scrap preserved in the Sackler Library, Oxford and concluding with the Athenian tragedian himself revising his manuscript on his deathbed in Sicily in 456 BCE. Of all my collections, The Paths of Survival offers the most scholarly concerns, raising most questions about the correlations and disruptions between the poetic and the academic. “The Library versus The Lyre” examines this sometimes distrustful, often productive, relationship between the two fields as it looks forward to a new, mutually sympathetic synthesis. As it concludes: “...without scholarship Myrmidons would be lost. And without poetry it would never have been written.”

Abstract:
Computer Aided Design systems provide tools for building and manipulating models of solid objects. Some also provide access to programming languages so that parametrised designs can be expressed. There is a sharp distinction, therefore, between building models, a concrete graphical editing activity, and programming, an abstract, textual, algorithm-construction activity. The recently proposed Language for Structured Design (LSD) was motivated by a desire to combine the design and programming activities in one language. LSD achieves this by extending a visual logic programming language to incorporate the notions of solids and operations on solids. Here we investigate another aspect of the LSD approach, namely, that by using visual logic programming as the engine to drive the parametrised assembly of objects, we also gain the powerful symbolic problem-solving capability that is the forté of logic programming languages. This allows the designer/programmer to work at a higher level, giving declarative specifications of a design in order to obtain the design descriptions. Hence LSD integrates problem solving, design synthesis, and prototype assembly in a single homogeneous programming/design environment. We demonstrate this specification-to-final-assembly capability using the masterkeying problem for designing systems of locks and keys.
