Abstract:

Knowing the structure of a document is the key to successful processing of a document. There exist a variety of definitions of document structures. This paper is a survey of methods describing document structures. Several novel concepts and theoretical analyses are also presented. A document not only has a concrete two-dimensional image but also a conceptual structure which corresponds to human’s thinking. The process of publishing or writing corresponds to encoding the conceptual structure into a concrete structure. Conversely, the concrete structure of the document is decoded into its conceptual one in document processing. In this paper, conceptual and concrete structures are introduced. A complete system for treating both of the conceptual and concrete structures is probably still decades away. As the first stage, this study puts some emphasis on concrete structures, for which, geometric, logical, textual, information, textural, and other structures are described.

Abstract:

The Vessantara J?taka is not only the most popular of all the Buddhist J?taka tales, but is important in the tradition as a whole, generally considered by the Therav?din tradition to display the epitome of the Bodhisatta’s perfection of giving (d?nap?ram?). While most studies have focused on philological approaches, numerous questions as to the text’s structure and how to interpret individual parts within that structure have remained unresolved (§1. The received tradition of the Vessantara J?taka). My study shall employ the theory of ‘chiasmus’ (inverted parallelism) to shed new light on both the key message of the story and also the sub-themes within it (§2. Chiastic structures as textual approach). In terms of textual criticism, I shall first elucidate the chiastic structure of the text and discuss how this structure can provide insights on text-critical readings (§3. Textual criticism: Chiastic units and structure). In terms of interpretation, I shall then see how the structure clearly demarcates the text’s scope through its prologue and conclusion with surrounding framework, its paired parallel sub-themes, and its central climax point, all in the light of its chiastic structure (§4. Interpretation: A chiastic reading). Finally, considering broader implications, on comparison with other recently discovered Buddhist textual chiasmi I shall present a tentative hypothesis as to the origins of such structures in the ‘bodhisatt(v)a’ literary genre (§5. Conclusions: Critical and interpretive implications).

Abstract:

Temporal information plays important roles in Web search, as Web pages intrinsically involve crawled time and most Web pages contain time keywords in their content. How to integrate temporal information in Web search engines has been a research focus in recent years, among which some key issues such as temporal-textual indexing and temporal information extraction have to be first studied. In this paper, we first present a framework of temporal-textual Web search engine. And then, we concentrate on designing a new hybrid index structure for temporal and textual information of Web pages. In particular, we propose to integrate B+-tree, inverted file and a typical temporal index called MAP21-Tree, to handle temporal-textual queries. We study five mechanisms to implement a hybrid index structure for temporal-textual queries, which use different ways to organize the inverted file, B+-tree and MAP-21 tree. After a theoretic analysis on the performance of those five index structures, we conduct experiments on both simulated and real data sets to make performance comparison. The experimental results show that among all the index schemes the first-inverted-file-then-MAP21-tree index structure has the best query performance and thus is an acceptable choice to be the temporal-textual index for future time-aware search engines.

Abstract:

Textual network embedding aims to learn low-dimensional representations of text-annotated nodes in a graph. Prior work in this area has typically focused on fixed graph structures; however, real-world networks are often dynamic. We address this challenge with a novel end-to-end node-embedding model, called Dynamic Embedding for Textual Networks with a Gaussian Process (DetGP). After training, DetGP can be applied efficiently to dynamic graphs without re-training or backpropagation. The learned representation of each node is a combination of textual and structural embeddings. Because the structure is allowed to be dynamic, our method uses the Gaussian process to take advantage of its non-parametric properties. To use both local and global graph structures, diffusion is used to model multiple hops between neighbors. The relative importance of global versus local structure for the embeddings is learned automatically. With the non-parametric nature of the Gaussian process, updating the embeddings for a changed graph structure requires only a forward pass through the learned model. Considering link prediction and node classification, experiments demonstrate the empirical effectiveness of our method compared to baseline approaches. We further show that DetGP can be straightforwardly and efficiently applied to dynamic textual networks.

Abstract:

Textual inference is an important component in many applications for understanding natural language. Classical approaches to textual inference rely on logical representations for meaning, which may be regarded as "external" to the natural language itself. However, practical applications usually adopt shallower lexical or lexical-syntactic representations, which correspond closely to language structure. In many cases, such approaches lack a principled meaning representation and inference framework. We describe an inference formalism that operates directly on language-based structures, particularly syntactic parse trees. New trees are generated by applying inference rules, which provide a unified representation for varying types of inferences. We use manual and automatic methods to generate these rules, which cover generic linguistic structures as well as specific lexical-based inferences. We also present a novel packed data-structure and a corresponding inference algorithm that allows efficient implementation of this formalism. We proved the correctness of the new algorithm and established its efficiency analytically and empirically. The utility of our approach was illustrated on two tasks: unsupervised relation extraction from a large corpus, and the Recognizing Textual Entailment (RTE) benchmarks.

Abstract:

Drug approval is a long and expensive process, that can take 10-15 years and more than 2 billion dollars. Therefore alternative techniques, such as drug repositioning, to identify new uses for approved drugs, has been gaining increasing attention. We examine the employment of different drug embeddings to predict successful drug repositioning. We study the employment of drug molecular structure and show that using larger chemical construct, such as large functional chemical groups, is much more effective than small sub-structures. We then study embeddings that are based on textual medical publications and compare them with the chemical-structure-based embeddings. We eventually present a novel embedding technique to combine the merit of the textual and chemical-based approaches. We provide empirical results on a repositioning benchmark set. Additionally, we present an application of such embedding as part of an ongoing repositioning research conducted with a major health care supplier, and identify a novel drug and indication. The pair has been verified on a corpus of 1.5 million patient EHR data.

The main problem of this reserach is the study of textual stucture in Hiyangan Wadian at death ceremony in Dayak Maanyan. In order to find and indentify the textual structure that build the Hiyangan Wadian in this ceremony, there are three textual sturcture by Van Dijk, such as macro structure, superstucture, and micro structure. Result of analysis on textual structure in the macro structure found that the main theme in Hiyangan kiaen tell about the journey stages to heaven that have to be passed by the spirit. The super structure of the text reveal that Hiyangan kiaen has three parts, opening part, content part and closing part. Result of analysis in the micro srtucture found that there are lexicosemantic paralelisms that reveal the words repetitions with the same meaning to emphasize that those words are important parts in the text.

SummaryA structured report for imaging exams aims at increasing the precision in information retrieval and communication between physicians. However, it is more concise than free text and may limit specialists’ descriptions of important findings not covered by pre-defined structures. A computational ontological structure derived from free texts designed by specialists may be a solution for this problem. Therefore, the goal of our study was to develop a methodology for structuring information in radiology reports covering specifications required for the Brazilian Portuguese language, including the terminology to be used.We gathered 1,701 radiological reports of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies of the lumbosacral spine from three different institutions. Techniques of text mining and ontological conceptualization of lexical units extracted were used to structure information. Ten radiologists, specialists in lumbosacral MRI, evaluated the textual superstructure and terminology extracted using an electronic questionnaire.The established methodology consists of six steps: 1) collection of radiology reports of a specific MRI examination; 2) textual decomposition; 3) normalization of lexical units; 4) identification of textual superstructures; 5) conceptualization of candidate-terms; and 6) evaluation of superstructures and extracted terminology by experts using an electronic questionnaire. Three different textual superstructures were identified, with terminological variations in the names of their textual categories. The number of candidate-terms conceptualized was 4,183, yielding 727 concepts. There were a total of 13,963 relationships between candidate-terms and concepts and 789 relationships among concepts.The proposed methodology allowed structuring information in a more intuitive and practical way. Indications of three textual superstructures, extraction of lexicon units and the normalization and ontologically conceptualization were achieved while maintaining references to their respective categories and free text radiology reports.Citation: Barbosa F, Traina AJ, Muglia VF. Using the bag-of-word model to represent the textual data of XML documents may not be beneficial in XML clustering by content and structure. Indeed, the occurrence of similar structure-constrained textual items across distinct XML documents may enforce relatedness, despite the possibly different meaning implied by the order of item occurrence in the respective contexts. We propose XML clustering by structure-constrained phrases. It is a new method that better captures the meaning of the structure-constrained textual items of XML documents, by resorting to the more accurate bag-of-phrase model for improved clustering effectiveness. In order to conduct an in-depth and systematic study of the validity of the proposed method, we develop a parameter-free approach, that projects the XML documents into a space of XML features corresponding to sequences of textual items in the context of root-to-leaf paths. Automatic feature selection allows for choosing a subset of XML features, whose relevance is assessed through an innovative scoring scheme. The devised approach can operate with representations of the XML documents over both fixed- and mixed-length sequences of contextualized textual items. A novel criterion is presented to combine XML features with mixed lengths. A comparative experimentation on real-world benchmark XML corpora reveals the overcoming effectiveness of our approach. This highlights the potential of XML clustering by structure-constrained phrases and fosters further efforts. The scalability of the devised approach is also investigated.

Abstract The article deals with sentence-initial time adverbials in English declarative sentences. Theoretically, it is grounded in functionally-oriented and discourse-based studies, trying to combine the study of syntactic structure, information structure, information flow, and cognitive-pragmatic aspects of discourse construction and interpretation. The aim is to examine some regularities regarding the interplay of their syntactic and pragmatic characteristics and their textual and pragmatic discourse functions. The corpus-based research includes several parameters: (1) syntactic – the form and functional subtype of initial time adverbials, and the syntactic structure of the sentences containing them; (2) pragmatic – related to the information status of initial time adverbials; (3) textual – dealing with semantic, formal and functional similarities between the initial time adverbials and the sentences containing them, and other adverbials and structures in the relevant language segment, as well as with the position of the initial time adverbials in the text. The identified discourse functions (textual and pragmatic) of the initial placement of time adverbials include linking with the previous and following text, rearranging the functional elements within a sentence, temporal scene-setting, creating two especially prominent positions in a sentence, signaling segment boundaries of textual units, etc. It is suggested that particular discourse functions, rather than being associated with one of the parameters examined, actually depend on the interrelatedness of several of them.

Abstract:

The textual similarity task, which measures the similarity between two text pieces, has recently received much attention in the natural language processing (NLP) domain. However, due to the vagueness and diversity of language expression, only considering semantic or syntactic features, respectively, may cause the loss of critical textual knowledge. This paper proposes a new type of structure tree for sentence representation, which exploits both syntactic (structural) and semantic information known as the weight vector dependency tree (WVD-tree). WVD-tree comprises structure trees with syntactic information along with word vectors representing semantic information of the sentences. Further, Gaussian attention weight is proposed for better capturing important semantic features of sentences. Meanwhile, we design an enhanced tree kernel to calculate the common parts between two structures for similarity judgment. Finally, WVD-tree is tested on widely used semantic textual similarity tasks. The experimental results prove that WVD-tree can effectively improve the accuracy of sentence similarity judgments.

Abstract:

This study explores the textual alterations of Arabic news structure and how it has been influenced by news texts produced in English. The paper precisely examines sentence, paragraph and text structures in terms of form and content in relation to news translation. It analyses news articles collated from Aljazeera and Al-Arabiya news networks. The collated corpus is translations from English into Arabic by these two media outlets. The analysis showed considerable changes that the form of Arabic textual structures has incurred, especially in the general layout of texts. Although it confirm Hatim’s (1997) text-type categorisation with regard to argumentation in Arabic news texts that Arabic lacks argumentative elements it news content, it exhibited significant shift in internal cohesion, paragraph transitions, and syntactic patterns. These changes could emanate from many other influencing factors, but translation is definitely one.

Searching on the web is one of the most progressive and expanding field nowadays. A large amount of information is available on the World Wide Web, motivating the need of efficient text indexing method that support fast text retrieval. In the past, two main indexing techniques: Signature files and Inverted files have been proposed. First require much larger space to store index and are more expensive to construct and update than inverted files. Second has been efficiently implemented using different structures like Sorted array and B-Tree. Sorted array was very expensive in updating the indices while appending a new keyword and B-tree method breaks down if there are many words with the same prefix. This paper presents a modified index structure for text retrieval that keeps a good result to optimize the space needed to store and time to search document. The proposed index is designed using the Wavelet Tree (WT), which was originally designed as wavelet transform for images. Experimental results show that on increasing the query length, the WT based index performs better than others.

O presente trabalho fundamenta-se na Teoria da Estrutura Retórica do Texto (Rhetorical Structure Theory – RST). De acordo com Mann e Thompson (1988), a RST corresponde a uma ferramenta teórica profícua para a descrição das relações entre as cláusulas de um texto, a análise dos sentidos de conjunções no processo de combinação de orações, o estudo da coerência e a identificação das proposições relacionais que, embora não estejam muitas vezes marcadas, acabam por emergir da estrutura durante o processo de interpretação textual. Com o aparato teórico da RST, analisamos a composição estrutural e as proposições relacionais explícitas e inferidas que emergem em uma redação do ENEM selecionada pelo INEP como exemplo de texto que obteve nota máxima em 2017. Nosso estudo é um exercício de análise textual pautado na RST, com o objetivo de demonstrar como esse aparato teórico pode orientar a análise de uma produção textual de natureza tão específica, explicitando relações entre cláusulas, bem como entre porções textuais maiores, tais como período e parágrafos. Assim, observamos que a redação do ENEM apresentou estrutura retórica condizente com a tipologia textual dissertativo-argumentativa. Foram identificadas relações que estão diretamente envolvidas no desenvolvimento temático e argumentativo, tais como evidência, lista, conclusão e elaboração.

Abstract:

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to present a thorough analysis of three complementary features of real-scale really simple syndication (RSS)/Atom feeds, namely, publication activity, items characteristics and their textual vocabulary, that the authors believe are crucial for emerging Web 2.0 applications. Previous works on RSS/Atom statistical characteristics do not provide a precise and updated characterization of feeds’ behavior and content, characterization that can be used to successfully benchmark the effectiveness and efficiency of various Web syndication processing/analysis techniques. Design/methodology/approach – The authors empirical study relies on a large-scale testbed acquired over an eight-month campaign from 2010. They collected a total number of 10,794,285 items originating from 8,155 productive feeds. The authors deeply analyze feeds productivity (types and bandwidth), content (XML, text and duplicates) and textual content (vocabulary and buzz-words). Findings – The findings of the study are as follows: 17 per cent of feeds produce 97 per cent of the items; a formal characterization of feeds publication rate conducted by using a modified power law; most popular textual elements are the title and description, with the average size of 52 terms; cumulative item size follows a lognormal distribution, varying greatly with feeds type; 47 per cent of the feed-published items share the same description; the vocabulary does not belong to Wordnet terms (4 per cent); characterization of vocabulary growth using Heaps’ laws and the number of occurrences by a stretched exponential distribution conducted; and ranking of terms does not significantly vary for frequent terms. Research limitations/implications – Modeling dedicated Web applications capacities, Defining benchmarks, optimizing Publish/Subscribe index structures. Practical implications – It especially opens many possibilities for tuning Web applications, like an RSS crawler designed with a resource allocator and a refreshing strategy based on the Gini values and evolution to predict bursts for each feed, according to their category and class for targeted feeds; an indexing structure which matches textual items’ content, which takes into account item size according to targeted feeds, size of the vocabulary and term occurrences, updates of the vocabulary and evolution of term ranks, typos and misspelling correction; filtering by pruning items for content duplicates of different feeds and correlation of terms to easily detect replicates. Originality/value – A content-oriented analysis of dynamic Web information.

Abstract:

One of the theories that seek to unravel how the human language functions is the Systemic Functional Grammar (SFG). SFG achieves its uniqueness by seeking to develop a theory about language as a social process and an analytical methodology for detailed and systematic description of language patterns (Eggins, 2004). Given its suitability for the analysis of any text, SFG was used in this study for the analysis of the poem “My Lord, Tell Me Where to Keep Your Bribe”. Though SFG shows how three different strands of meanings (ideational, interpersonal and textual) are expressed in the structures of clauses, the focus of analysis was on the grammar of textual and interpersonal meanings, hence the thematic and Mood structure analyses of the poem. The thematisation patterns identified in the poem included the use of textual themes (for inter-clause cohesive purposes), interpersonal themes (for the assignment of Mood labels to clauses) and topical themes, which altogether enabled the poet bring into thematic prominence the major issues of worry to an average Nigerian who had always thought judges and the courts of law should be immune from corruption. The Mood structure analysis showed the poet’s conscious choices of the indicative Mood, with alternating options of interrogative and declarative clause types. Overall, the SFG-based analysis showed how the poet made conscious paradigmatic choices and arranged them into linear (syntagmatic) structures to make the different meanings conveyed in the poem.

Abstract: Results from contrastive text linguistics are used to show how systematic differences between an L1 and an L2 can be applied to foreign language didactics for teaching textual skills in a methodical and efficient way. The language pair studied consists of Danish and French, which, belonging to two different language families, Germanic and Romance languages respectively, show many systematic differences in their fundamental structure – within lexicalisation, morphology, and syntax – that turn out to have a predictable impact on text structure. Thus, differences are found between Danish and French texts at the levels of referential coherence in different types of anaphoric expressions, of temporal coherence in different means for fore- and back-grounding events, and of structural coherence in different effects of framing via pre-posed adverbials, etc. Two e-learning programs, TeXtRay and NaviLire, are presented, which exploit such systematic differences between given language pairs in offering different types of navigation and visualisation exercises aimed at teaching textual skills needed at higher university education, such as reading and writing complex academic or specialised texts in a foreign language.

Current linguistic examination of allegory focuses on its cognitive structure as conceptual metaphor, with its linguistic form realised in the absence of a target domain (Crisp, 2001; 2008). The present study addresses the intersection of conceptualisation and form in examining how personification allegory functions within a literary context as either fictional world or thematic elements. Central to this is the idea of lexical priming, which suggests that readers are both textually and experientially primed to interpret personified referents allegorically or non-allegorically depending on their contextual use. In this article I draw on Mahlberg and McIntyre’s (2011) framework for literary text function to take an integrated cognitive-corpus approach to exploring allegorical function through the lens of lexical priming, with corpus analysis revealing the patterns on which these cognitive primings are textually based. To this end, real-world examples of personification allegory are drawn from the Middle English allegorical poem Piers Plowman relative to a corpus of other late medieval poetic literature. My main findings suggest that the textual functionality attributed to allegorical referents is neither mutually exclusive nor directly correlative to a particular textual pattern, but rather contingent on the degree of animacy-based priming evidenced in their core semantic meaning or textual foregrounding. These results additionally indicate that function-based primings depend on the type of allegory appearing in the text (i.e. property versus class allegory).

Abstract The article holds that textual comparison is of vital importance in translation studies. One of the key issues therefore is to identify the textual properties that are comparable and should be compared. In its investigation into the tri-stratal nature of language use in text formation, the article starts with a comparison of functional grammar and speech act theory. The investigation has led to a perception that textual meaning is a three-dimensional structure and hence to the production of a more comprehensive model, Structure of Meaning (SOM). The model is meant to offer a functional perspective on text formation in the process of translating, on a comparative basis, by examining one by one the three constituent dimensions, i.e., linguistic composition, interactional dynamic and aesthetic impact. The observation of proportionate relationships between the three dimensions of a Structure of Meaning has thrown some new light on issues such as genre, form and content, information, and effect, in the formation of the target language text.

Abstract:

In our study we presented an effective method for clustering of Web pages. From flat HTML files we extracted keywords, formed feature vectors as representation of Web pages and applied them to a clustering method. We took advantage of the Fuzzy C-Means clustering algorithm (FCM). We demonstrated an organized and schematic manner of data collection. Various categories of Web pages were retrieved from ODP (Open Directory Project) in order to create our datasets. The results of clustering proved that the method performs well for all datasets. Finally, we presented a comprehensive experimental study examining: the behavior of the algorithm for different input parameters, internal structure of datasets and classification experiments.

In recent years, judicial authorities in the Netherlands have started paying more and more attention to the linguistic and textual quality of their judgments. This is based on the assumption that a better linguistic and textual quality of court judgments leads to the content of these judgments being better understood by citizens and private or public organizations. However, to what extent is this plausible assumption empirically correct? To answer this question, an original administrative law judgment from a Dutch district court was rewritten on the basis of a number of linguistic and textual quality requirements from the literature. Subsequently, a digital survey was conducted among 106 respondents. Half of the respondents answered a number of substantive questions about the original version of the court judgment. The other half of the respondents answered the same substantive questions about the rewritten version. According to the answers to the substantive questions, the second group of respondents understood the content of the court judgment considerably better than those to whom the original version of the court judgment was presented. The higher linguistic and textual quality of the rewritten version ensured that the content of the court judgment was better understood.

Abstract This article explores dimensions of dramatic structure which the literary linguistic analysis of a play text can illuminate within an integrated model of dramatic significance. The play to be examined is John Millington Synge’s The Playboy of the Western World, known for its lexical richness, denseness of dramatic expression and not least the structural creativity of its Hiberno-English, all of which provide an abundant fund of textual semiotics for the present drama-specific literary linguistic analysis. The dimensions of the play investigated are (i) those of its ‘constitution’, which linguistically comprises dialogue and stage directions, and characterisation, plot and setting as traditional constituents of dramatic structure in their own right; and (ii) those of its ‘realisation’ as literary work, staging production and theatre performance and the associated addressivity of materially the same play text at each of these levels. As such, it will be shown that the employment of, and further development of, a linguistic model of social semiotics (after Halliday 1978; Fairclough 2003) enables a unified account to be given of the dramatic meanings a play text expresses at these two levels of its internal construction and its external actualisation.

According to Durkheim, suicide means a conscious choice of death. The only opposite of death is being, and there is no middle ground in between. Therefore, when Durkheim discusses suicide, he certainly touches on the issue of living, or a choice of self-preservation, in a cryptical way, as well. This veiled discussion has been unacknowledged by Chinese mainland sociology because the widely adopted Chinese version of Durkheim’s Suicide loses most of the textual evidence of this clue in its translation. This paper offers a textual analysis of Durkheim’s Suicide based on that textual evidence. Durkheim treats different types of suicide as extreme forms of different types of morals, and, in many places, he asks under what kind of moral condition one can achieve self-preservation. This paper argues that there is an inner connection between Durkheim’s definitions of three types of suicide and his definition of sociology. As a social scientist who studies morality, he sees sociology as the expression of a particular modern morality, the same kind of moral condition that he calls for in his book. This paper shows that for Durkheim, this moral entity signifies for self-preservation both for the modern individual and for sociology.

Despite this there have been almost no attempts to explain the reasons behind the choice of an applicative coding of an argument when there is an grammatical oblique coding strategy available. This study focuses on dynamic applicative constructions in Tukang Besi, an Austronesian language of central Indonesia, and examines a large corpus for reasons why applicative coding is chosen over oblique coding. Factors such as semantic role information and animacy are as important as textual prominence in the coding decision.

Abstract:

The thematic and information structure of scientific and technical texts are arguably different among languages. This study examines the thematic structure of scientific texts in English and Arabic to see the differences in the hierarchical organization at different thematic levels. It adopts Halliday’s functional model of theme-rheme and applies it to English and Arabic scientific texts. The paper mainly investigates the three levels of theme: textual, interpersonal and experiential with the intention of discussing their translations into Arabic. It uses a corpus data of two scientific texts. The syntactic and textual elements of those texts were compared and contrasted and professional translations were provided to study the Arabic thematic structure. The data provides English and Arabic versions which allow for a comparable analysis of structure, convention and style. The study reveals that the most frequent type of themes and thematic progression is the experiential theme. It shows that those experiential themes are almost always occupying initial positions. The structure of themes has the tendency to be reproduced in the translation. However, the findings of this investigation indicate that position of themes may change as a result of translation, or changed from experiential into textual.

On the basis of Edgar Conrad’s pioneering exegesis of the intra-textual function of the expression סֵפֶר הַתּוֹרָה‎ and similar expressions in the Pentateuch, published in the Journal for the Study of the Old Testament 25 years ago this year, I will examine the intra-textual function of the written product, called תּוֹרָה‎, in the Book of Isaiah. Striking similarities can be found between the two intra-textual functions. The textual presence of תּוֹרָה‎ in the Book of Isaiah highlights a semantic structure throughout the book. Moreover, the prophetic תּוֹרָה‎ appears to be connected to the King character in a similar way to how the King is related to the Torah in the Pentateuch. However, the Book of Isaiah also contains two elaborations. The activity of reading (and not reading) is added to the activity of writing the intra-textual document. Furthermore, the Book of Isaiah contains a number of contrasting written products.

In this paper we present DOMMLite - an extensible domain specific language (DSL) for static structure definition of data base oriented applications. The model-driven engineering (MDE) approach, an emerging software development paradigm, has been used. The language structure is defined by the means of a meta model supplemented by validation rules based on Check language and extensions based on Extend language, which are parts of the openArchitectureWare framework [1]. The meta model has been defined along with the textual syntax, which enables creation, update and persistence of DOMMLite models using a common text editor. DSL execution semantics has been defined by the specification and implementation of the source code generator for a target platform with an already defined execution semantics. In order to enable model editing, a textual Eclipse editor has also been developed. DSL, defined in this way, has the capability of generating complete source code for GUI forms with CRUDS (Create-Read-Update-Delete-Search) and navigation operations [2,3,4,5].

The differences between the processing of textual and pictorial information have been a topic of research for some time now. Previous research concerning the modality of information has often concentrated on the speed of processing rather than the organizational differences that may exist. This experiment utilized card sorting to evaluate the changes in knowledge organization that occur when information is presented in text and picture formats. In addition to this, the structure of the elicitation task was manipulated to evaluate its effects on sharedness. It was found that textual stimuli produced a greater sharedness among participants in a free sorting task. However, for a structured sorting task, results reversed, and pictorial stimuli created a greater level of sharedness. Overall, structured sorting tasks produced a greater level of sharedness than the free sorting condition, regardless of modality.
