Full textThe thesis aims at analyzing the model of company emerging from the new Consolidated law on public bodies owned companies, coming at the conclusion that the reform has chosen for a private characterization, according to the types envisaged by the Civil Code. Conversely, the need of pursuing public interest has permanently lost the ability to denaturalize the company. It represents an extrasocial interest, that may be satisfied only during the public law phase. To fully appreciate the importance of these results, the analysis of the Consolidated law is preceded by a reconstruction of the tortuous itinerary of public bodies owned companies in the Italian legal system, which over the years has seen oscillations between opposite polarities and deep interpretative contrasts, result of the complex relationship between public authorities and the economy.

Full textIn the Italian legal framework, the question concerning the regulation of procedures and contents of collective bargaining represents one of the major labour law issues, which has not found a satisfying solution yet. The abovementioned topic is, in addition, strictly connected to the selection of criteria aimed to determine the actors of the bargaining process. The purpose of the present dissertation is then to examine, first of all, the historical development of the debate on the aforementioned issues in the Italian context, to focus attention, afterwards, on the most recent instances to enact a clearer regulation of the bargaining process, in reason of the crisis of trade unions’ cohesion and of the fragmentation of production originated by globalisation. Finally, the last part of the dissertation will be centred on a comparative analysis with the French regulative context that, in opposition to the Italian one, disciplined by law prerequisites and procedures to accede to collective bargaining process already at the beginning of XX Century. In particular, the first chapter starts from the matter of contention at the base of the whole national discussion referred to the regulative process of arrangements executed between employers’ and workers’ organizations: the incapability of the Italian legislator to enact a law concerning the collective bargaining proceeding respecting, in the meantime, the criteria set forth by Article 39 of the Constitution, that has been at the base of the consequential declaration of illegitimacy of all the legislative attempts to generalize the efficacy of the considered agreements, circumventing the provision of the Fundamental Chart. The analysis continues focusing on the evolution of collective agreements regulated by civil law in the national legal framework: highly centred during the Fifties, then organized on two ordered levels in the brief period of “contrattazione articolata” – introduced initially in public industries with the Protocol Intersind-Asap of 1962 and soon extended to the private field – until the total independence between company and sectorial bargaining level in the years between the end of the Sixties and the beginning of the Seventies, and to the particular characteristics assumed by the said agreements during the oil crisis and in the following years, when the practice of the three-side covenants executed between main trade unions, employers’ organizations and the government, with different outcomes, perdured until the middle of 2000’s. In this context, particular attention is devoted to the collective agreements executed at national level in July-December 1993 that, during the following twenty years, have been considered the fulcrum of the two-level collective bargaining system, and which attempted, in the meantime, with the introduction of Trade unions’ Unitary Representative bodies (in Italian, Rappresentanze Sindacali Unitarie, RSU) to contrast the deep crisis of representativeness of workers’ organizations, whose gravitas has been highlighted, several months after, by the national referendum held in 1995 on Article 19 of law no. 300 of 1970. The last section of the first chapter founds an ideal continuation in the second one. In this field, the main topic become the most recent issues concerning the Italian bargaining system, and significantly the one which moved social actors of the industrial sector – on the base of the crisis of the system of 1993, showed by the Fiat dispute of 2009-2011, followed by the connected judgment of Constitutional Court that in 2013 modified another time the interpretation of Article 19 of law no. 300 of 1970, expanding the criteria to admit workers’ organization to benefits provided by the law, and by the enactment of Article 8 of law-decree no. 138 of 2011 – to affirm that is come the time to set new rules to try to govern the bargaining system. On this point, the dissertation focuses attention on the three national collective agreements held on 28 June 2011, 31 May 2013 and 10 January 2014 and on the further arrangement of 28 February-9 March 2018 and on the respective debate centred, in a perspective of reform, on the opportunity to introduce a bill able to completely fulfil the requirements of Article 39 of the Italian Constitution. The third chapter, finally, follows the scheme of the precedent ones, from the point of view of the French legal framework. Therefore, firstly is described the evolution of the said juridical context, from the loi of 1919 concerning collective agreements regulated by civil law and the regulations of 1936 and of 1950 on the extension erga omnes, through an administrative decree, of collective agreements signed by representative trade unions, until the new model of “citizenship in the company” promoted by the laws Auroux enacted in 1982 and to the fragmentation of the labour law system occurred between the 80s and 2000s, characterised by measures without a systematic approach and, sometimes, in contrast between each other. The attention is focused, then, on the reforms that, recently, heavily redefined the structure of the French labour law framework consisting in the introduction, in 2008, of objective criteria to select representative trade unions, in the extension of this model to employers’ organizations in 2014-2016 and, with reference to the bargaining structure, in the disputed reform responding to the name of loi Travail, held in 2016, and in the ordonnances promoted by the new President Macron in the late 2017, towards the direction of a relevant and decisive expansion of company collective agreement, to the detriment of sectoral level. The arrival point of the path traced above regards the attempt to reply to the issue concerning the opportunity to provide or not, in the Italian context, for a law regulating collective bargaining and the related obligations and rights of social actors, to clarify and stabilize the arrangement system. Secondly, also on the base of the comparison with the French frame of reference, the dissertation is closed by a reflection on the possible legal institutes to be introduced in the Italian juridical framework, in order to assure a general extension of collective bargaining, in the light to allow an harmonious development also of the company level.

Full textCredit derives etymologically from "believe". People who have money can easily demonstrate to be able to repay a loan and therefore not is hard to get it. Those who do not have adequate financial resources, those who are not "bankable" are excluded. If the credit is "micro", trust instead is "macro". In addition to trust, in the concept of microcredit there are a number of essential ingredients that can not miss. First, there must be a loan small. Then, the start of production and business activities can help to overcome individual temporary crisis situations that may provide minimal resources essential to stop the cycle of poverty . Microcredit who was born in underdeveloped countries has expanded rapidly in modern economies. Even the Italian legislature in 2010 adopted national discipline of microcredit. However, it’s hard to find the rules to regulate the microcredit and the risk is to delete the results achieved in practice. Even in agriculture microcredit can be a valuable aid for development. The rules and logic of microcredit work well in rural economies of developing countries, as shown by several projects for example in Uganda, but in modern economies the characteristics of the activities and the enormous initial capital required make the instrument of microcredit little usable. However the development of this tool is very important because microcredit can really be a valuable tool for fighting poverty even in advanced economies.

Abstract: A large amount of Waldemar Henrique¿s compositional works are based upon folklore themes, and this is due to the fact not only of his origin but also to the influence of intellectuals of his time, through Mário de Andrade and his ideas about ¿national¿ art song. The folkloric characteristics of Waldemar Henrique¿s works lead us to approach his compositions through the process of analyzing a group of seven songs, all based upon Amazon legends. The composer, through his statements and compositions, demonstrates great concern with the relationship of text and music, in the use of the language of the art song, which is constructed through the union of a linguistic component and another musical. Due to the strong interaction between these two components in his songs, our analysis of these seven songs is focused, mainly, on the relationship of these two components. Our analysis is theoretically based on the model developed by Luiz Tatit, used to analyze popular music

Abstract: The fabrication of a passively fitting framework over abutments and fixtures, maintaining its structural integrity and with a low costs, is the ultimate goal of the construction process of a multi-unit implant-support prosthesis. Furthermore, the accuracy and reliability of the passive fit determination methods have a crucial hole on framework misfit analysis. The objective was to evaluate the passive fit by the single-screw test method of cast commercially pure titanium (CP Ti) implantsupported frameworks after the corrective finishing of cast cylinders fitting borders and screw seats. The hypothesis tested was that finishing procedures could affect the single screw test measurements reliability. Were fabricated 40 frameworks by onepiece casting method, being 20 CP Ti frameworks and others 20 Co-Cr frameworks. A metallic index containing 05 Branemark-type multi-unit abutment analogs and respective calcinable cylinders were used to frameworks fabrication. The CP Ti and Co-Cr frames were assembled in 2 sub-groups (n=10) accordingly with the finishing sequence proposed: Group A - corrective finishing of cast cylinder borders followed by corrective finishing of cast cylinder screw seats - and Group B - corrective finishing of cast cylinder screw seats followed by corrective finishing of cast cylinder borders-. This conduct produce 4 experimental groups (CPTi A and B; Co-Cr A and B). The marginal gaps, assessed over the metallic matrix using a traveling microscope, were carried out before and after each corrective finishing step accordingly with one screw test protocol. The marginal misfit means of each framework was considered as a unit to statistical analyses. The Friedman¿s test was used with significance level set as 5% to analyze the effect of the different corrective finishing steps over frameworks passive fit. In the CPTi A and B Groups, and in the Co-Cr A Group, there was no significant differences between experimental conditions (Group CPTi A, p=0.9048; Group CPTi B, p=0.273 and Grupo Co-Cr A, p=0.4966). However, in the CPTi B Group, a significant difference was found after cast cylinder fitting borders corrective finishing (p=0.0015). It was concluded that the finishing process does not show any effect over Ti framewoks misfit values. However, to a group of Co-Cr frames, the fitting borders corrective finishing has a deleterious effect over passivity. The corrective finishing procedures seamed do not influence the single-screw test reliability, nevertheless, it should be used carefully and requires further improvements to guarantee a sever usage

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of remnants endodontic filling material in root canal on the bond strength of fiberglass posts cemented. Sixty single-rooted human teeth were used.Crowns were removed. The roots were prepared by crown-down technique with Reciproc system. For fillings, the roots were divided (n = 10) according to the sealer used: SO- without fillings; GP-gutta-percha without sealer; AHP- gutta-percha + AHPlus; SLP- gutta-percha + Sealapex; IRT-gutta-percha + iRoot SP; ERZ-and gutta-percha + EndoRez. Single cone obturation technique was used. After root canal fillings, the teeth were kept in an oven 37 0C for 7 days. Cementing fiberglass posts Rebilda n.12 was performed with fiber adhesive system Futurabond DC and cement Rebilda DC in 10 mm of root length, getting stored in an oven at 37 0C for 48 h. After this period, roots were sectioned obtaining 1 disc of 2 mm thickness in each third of the root (3 discs per root), this discs were underwent to push out test, analyzed by means of a stereomicroscope (40x) to identify the presence of remnants of filling material in the lumen of the canal, and then evaluated by energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) for identification of chemical components remnants sealer present in the dentinal tubules. Datas were analyzed with Kruskal-Wallis test, Chi square test, and also Anova and Tukey test, 5% of significance. There were no significant differences in push-out bond strengths among the different groups in the coronal (p = 0.49), middle (p = 0.28) or apical third (p = 0.09). Sealeapex and EndoRez groups showed significantly less remnants of filling material at coronal (p = 0.045) and apical levels (p = 0.006).Significant differences of chemical components remnants were found in AHP, IRT and SLP groups on apical third. It is concluded that residual endodontic filling material does not influence on the bond strength of fiberglass.

_______________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT
This study evaluate bond strengths of a new multi-mode universal adhesive system to dentin, with different pre-treatment methods (etched-dry dentin, etchedmoist dentin, and self-etched dentin) as compared to other commercially available systems. 144 extracted bovine incisors were embedded for shear bond test and ground flat to expose middle dentin. The teeth were randomly divided according to the dentin pre- treatment strategies: Group DRY (etch-and-rinse + dry dentin), Group MOIST (etch-and- rinse + moist dentin), and Group SE (used in the self-etch mode). These groups were further subdivided into subgroups according to the adhesive system used (n=12). All adhesives were light-cured with an LED light-curing unit (Gnatus Optilight Max, Brazil) for 20 seconds. The specimens were placed in an Ultradent Jig with a cylindrical Teflon mold with 2.38 mm diameter (Ultradent, USA). The mold was filled with a 2-mm increment of Z100 composite resin (3M ESPE, USA), and light-cured for 40 seconds. The specimens were stored in water at 37°C for 24 hours. Shear bond strength was tested using a Shear Tester (Bisco, USA) at crosshead speed of 0.5mm/min. Failure modes were evaluated using a stereomicroscope at 40x (Stemi 2000, Zeis, Germany) and classified as adhesive/ mixed, or cohesive in dentin. All data were analyzed with one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and pairwise comparisos were made with the post-hoc Tukey’s test (p<0.05). The new multi-mode adhesive system showed statistically similar bond strengths to etch- and-moist, etch-and-dry dentin, and in self-etch mode. These results were similar to the etch-and-rinse gold standard on moist dentin, and to the two-step self-etch gold standard when used in the self-etch mode.

This study evaluated the push-out bond strength of two self-adhesive resin cements and a conventional etch-and-rinse resin cement on root dentin. Sixty human third molars were endodontically treated and a glass fiber post was cemented with one of three resin cements. Each root was cut transversely to obtain three slices (dentin-post) of 1 mm thick. The slices of the cervical, middle and apical root canal were stored in deionized water at 37 °C for 24 hours or 30 days. After storage, the push-out test was performed. The values of bond strength were evaluated by ANOVA three way and Tuckey’ test (p = 0,05) and the types of fracture were evaluated by scanning electron microscopy. The bond strength of the self-adhesive resin cement RelyX U100 was superior to the RelyX ARC etch-and-rinse cement, after the two storage periods (p > 0.05). The analysis of 24 hours showed that at the cervical third, the values of bond strength of RelyX ARC were higher than that of the middle and apical thirds (p < 0.05). After 30 days of storage, the values at the three root thirds did not differ. The values of RelyX U100, on the three regions of the root canal did not differ, in both evaluations (p > 0.05). After 24 hours, BisCem showed higher bond strength at the apical third, followed by cervical. After 30 days, the values of bond strength at the three root thirds did not differ (p > 0.05). RelyX U100 did not exhibit changes in bond strength values after 30 days of storage (p > 0.05). BisCem showed no differences in the values obtained after 24 hours and 30 days of aging at the cervical and middle thirds (p > 0.05). The storage time of 30 days reduced the values of bond strength at the three root thirds of RelyX ARC. RelyX U100 e BisCem had the highest number of cohesive failures of the zone of interaction. RelyX ARC presented a higher number of cohesive failures of the hybrid layer were observed. It was concluded that the RelyX U100 self-adhesive resin cement showed higher bond strength than the conventional resin cement RelyX ARC, on the three root thirds, in both periods. BisCem showed bond strength comparable to RelyX U100. The storage time for 30 days caused changes on the bond strength of the RelyX ARC and BisCem resin cements.

Full textThe aim of this study was to evaluate the bond strength of epoxy resin- and methacrylate-based sealers to root dentin, using the material testing stage (MTS) coupled to a micro-computed tomography (μCT) device and to qualitatively assess the root-filling mass rupture by μCT images. Additional analyses were conducted using the 3D element finite method and confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) to verify, respectively, the stress distribution and percentage of gaps on dentin filling material interfaces. Maxillary canine roots measuring 17 mm were subjected to biomechanical preparation with nickel-titanium rotary instruments under constant irrigation with 1% NaOCl and final irrigation with 17% EDTA. Canals were filled by the lateral condensation technique with gutta-percha cones and the following sealers: AH Plus, Epiphany SE or RealSeal XT. The roots were stored (100% humidity, 37 °C) for a period three times longer than the setting time required for each sealer and then sectioned transversally to obtain two 2-mm-thick slices from each root third. One slice of each third was subjected to the push-out test using the MTS coupled to the SkyScan 1174 μCT (50 kV, 80 mA) with 13 μm isotropic resolution, 0.5 mm Al filter and 360° rotation. After the initial scanning of the slice, the mechanical test was performed until material dislodgement occurred. A new scanning was performed using the same initial parameters. The axial sections obtained were used for qualitative evaluation of the root-filling mass rupture. Failure modes were assessed by CLSM and classified as adhesive, cohesive or mixed. 3D μCT based finite element models were generated from cervical, middle and apical root thirds to simulate the push-out test. The second slice of each root third was used to assess the percentage of gaps between the filling material and the root canal walls, using CLSM with the aid of the OLS 4000 software. The data were analyzed by parametric and non-parametric tests (p<0.05). AH Plus presented higher bond strength [1.89 (1.01/2.39) MPa] to dentin (p<0.001) than Epiphany SE [0.36 (0.29/0.44) MPa] and RealSeal XT [0.43 (0.32/0.54) MPa]. For AH Plus and RealSeal XT sealers, the cervical and middle thirds showed higher bond strength to dentin than the apical third (p <0.001). The ruptures occurred in the margins of the root filling mass for AH Plus, while Epiphany SE and RealSeal XT had this type of rupture as well as in the root filling mass itself. AH Plus showed stress concentration on bond interface, while in Epiphany SE and RealSeal XT the stress was mainly distributed on the root-filling mass. Adhesive and mixed failures were the predominant fracture modes in all sealers. Regarding the percentage of gaps between the filling material and the root canal walls, AH Plus presented the lowest means (11.14%±4.03), differing significantly (p<0.05) from Epiphany SE (55.39%±13.46) and RealSeal XT (62.50%±6.72) sealers. The epoxy resin-based sealer (AH Plus) presented the highest bond strength to dentin, which had different behavior from other sealers regarding root-filling mass rupture and interfacial stress distribution. Moreover, AH Plus resulted in the lowest percentage of gaps between the material and the root canal walls

The aim of this study was to evaluate the adhesive characteristics of two kinds of geopolymers (G1 and G2) among five well known cements used in Dentistry: two conventional self-cure cements zinc phosphate (FZ), glass ionomer (IV) and three resin -based cements, one of them with light cure RelyX Veneer (RV) whereas the other two are dual cements RelyX ARC (RA) and RelyX U200 (RU), which is a self-adhesive product. Before the execution of the experiments themselves, forty-five non-carious molars were selected for afterwards analysis. The teeth were sectioned along the cervical line, and the crown was split along the mesial-distal line, creating 90 halves of teeth crowns. Each one was placed inside of the lumen of a segment of a regular 25mm PVC pipe. Once that was done, self-cure acrylic resin was poured into the pipes until the full submersion of the half crowns. Each block was transversally sliced, creating specimens in the shape of 2 mm thick discs. Thereupon, conic cavities were drilled into the dentin using a diamond bur. Ten samples were used for each cement and each geopolymer was used in twenty samples. These materials were inserted into these cavities, avoiding their overfill. Randomized 24h storage under relative wetness and room temperature for the selfcure cements and one sample of each geopolymer (G1u and G2u) was set. As a matter of comparison, other ten samples of the geopolymer (G1s and G2s) were stocked in a dry room, for the same period of time, so that it could be possible to analyze its adhesion without the wetness influence. Afterwards, the push-out experiments were made in a universal testing machine. The results were made under the ANOVA and Tukey tests, which showed that the best adhesive strength were showed by G2S and followed by G1S. Among the resin cements, RV obtained the best performance. G1u and G2u showed the lowest adhesive levels, without any relevant statistical differences between them. The conclusion is that the geological cements mechanical characteristics are promising, although they re very susceptible to wetness. The rational application of geopolymers in Dentistry must face an correction of is hidrosolubility, so that its clinical usage can reach a good effectiveness.

This study evaluated if the irradiation of dentin trough the adhesive applied on it affected micro-tensile bond strength of composite to this tissue. Flat dentin surfaces were created in 37 extracted human third molars. Thirty-six teeth were selected and received surface treatments. Single Bond (SB) and Clearfil SE Bond (CSEB) systems were individually applied after dentin had been acid-etched or not, with phosphoric acid for SB or self-etching primer for CSEB. Immediately after adhesives application and before light curing, surfaces were lased, except for controls, using two power settings, 0.75 and 1W. So, 12 groups were designed, 6 for each bonding system. After that, composite crowns were built-up over the treated surfaces and the teeth were stored in distillated water, at 37ºC, for 24h. The teeth were serially sectioned in beams with cross-sectional area of approximately 0,49mm2, and the specimens were stressed to failure under tension using a testing machine. Representative fractured specimens were selected and had their dentin surfaces observed under scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Interfaces of two untested beams were also observed under SEM. Moreover, the dentin surface of one additional tooth received SB application (with neither acid etching nor laser irradiation), a composite crown was built-up on it and the tooth was cut longitudinally in two halves, which had their dentin/resin interfaces observed under SEM. This study showed that laser irradiation increased micro-tensile bond strength only in Groups 5 and 6, where SB was applied without previous dentin acid etching, in comparison to the group where this adhesive was used alone (Group 4 - no etching / no laser). However, these values were lower than those found when dentin was etched. There was not an improvement in bond... (Complete abstract, click electronic address below)

The aim of this study was to evaluate the microtensile bond strength of self-adhesive resin cements to polycrystalline zirconia. Eighteen 3Y-TZP ceramic blocks (9 LAVA and 9 LAVA Plus) were sandblasted with 50 m Al2O3 powder for 20 s with a pressure of 28 psi at a working distance of 10 mm. The ceramic blocks were duplicated in composite resin (Point 4, Kerr) using a silicon mold. Composite blocks were bonded to sandblasted zirconia using different self-adhesive resin cements: (1) RelyX Unicem 2 (3M ESPE); (2) SmartCem 2 (Dentsply); (3) Speedcem (Ivoclar Vivadent). After 24 h immersed in distilled water at 37oC the bonded specimens were cut into microtensile bond sticks of 1 mm2 0,2 mminterface areaand loaded in tension until failure. Data were analyzed by two-way ANOVA and LSDtest for multiple comparisons (α=0.05). The fractured surfaces were observed using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and the failure mode was recorded. Surface topography of the sandblasted and the as sintered zirconia materials were analyzed under an atomic force microscope (AFM).Bond strength of Speedcem cement to zirconia was significantly higher than that of RelyX Unicem 2 and SmartCem 2, irrespective of the ceramic used (p<0,05). Bond strength was not significantly influenced by the ceramic factor. Interactions were significant (p<0,05). The mode of failure of SmartCem 2 was almost exclusively adhesive, while RelyX Unicem 2 and Speedcem exhibited a good percentage of mixed fractures. No cohesive fractures were observed. AFM did not reveal differences in the topography pattern of the two ceramics before or after sandblasting. It was concluded that Speedcem presented superior adhesion to polycrystalline zirconia ceramics.

Full textThis work evaluated the bond strength of glass fiber posts to dentin using a conventional and a self-adhesive resin cement. Thirty bovine incisors had their roots sectioned 17mm from their apices, endodontically treated and assigned into 3 groups (n=10): group 1, conventional resin cement RelyX ARC + ScotchBond Multi Purpose Plus (SBMP) light activated + glass fiber post; Group 2, RelyX ARC+ SBMP chemically activated + glass fiber post; Group 3, self-adhesive resin cement RelyX U100 + glass fiber post. After luting, specimens were stored for 24 hours in distilled water at 37oC. Roots were sliced under water irrigation to obtain 1mm thick slices. Push-out test was performed on each slice with a universal testing machine with a crosshead speed of 0,5mm/min. All fractured specimens were observed using a light microscope to identify modes of failure. Values were submitted to two-way ANOVA and Tukeys test (p0,05). Mean values (MPa) and standard deviation for groups 1, 2 and 3 were, respectively: 4.87 (±3.65); 5.89(±3.72); e 8.50(±4.52). Regional bond strength values for the cervical, medium and apical were: G1- 5.26(±3.44); 5.11(±3.33); 5.01(±3.17); G2- 7.45(±3.82); 5.88(±2.50); 4.91(±2.74); G3- 10.11(±3.11); 9.12(±3.70); 4.99(±3.28). The highest bond strength values were obtained using the self-adhesive cement. Regional bond strengths were similar in the cervical and medium region in groups 2 and 3. All cements had the same performance on the apical region. Bond strength was influenced by the type of cement used and radicular region, but was not altered by the activation mode of the bonding system.

Full textFour ceramics (VMK 95, Omega 900, IPS d.Sign and Cergogold) were tested regarding: 1) tensile bond strength to human dentin of ceramic cones (6 x 3 x 5mm), cemented with zinc phosphate, and resin cements, Rely X and Panávia F (n=10); 2) roughness by means of parameters Ra, Rt, Ry, Rz and Rp, of HF (10%) surface treated and polished surfaces (n=10); 3) Knoop and Vickers hardness (n=4); 4) atomic force microscopy; only of polished surfaces (n=5). Data were analyzed by ANOVA and when necessary were used Tukeys tests. Tensile bond strength with zinc phosphate cement and Ra roughness parameter were analyzed separately because of their low variances when compared with those of resin cements and the other roughness parameter. Results showed that tensile bond strength of zinc phosphate was very low (1.61 to 2.91MPa) in this test condition (tensile test). Resin cements presented tensile bond strength at range 16.61 to 18.47MPa. Cement Rely X presented lower strength, but it depends also of ceramic. HF (10%) treated surfaces presented much higher roughness than polished ones. In HF (10%) treated surfaces parameter Ra ranged from 2.15 to 4.26µm and the other parameter ranged from 10.99 to 21.93µm. Roughness of polished surfaces Ra ranged from 0.53 to 0.84µm. Range of the other parameter was from 2.01 to 5.23µm. Knoop hardness ranged from 418.9 to 493.8 kgf/mm2 and Vickers from 492.5 to 572.2 kgf/mm2. This type presented higher values. Atomic force microscopy permited good vision of surface irregularities. Main conclusions were: zinc phosphate cement at test conditions (tensile) presented low bond strength; resin cements presented high tensile bond strength; surface treatment with HF (10%) led to high roughness but in polished one it was low; Vickers hardness presented higher values than Knoop one.

Full textThis study evaluated the push-out bond strength of glass fiber posts adhesively bonded to intraradicular dentin using a standard unfilled resin as luting agent in combination with an experimental and a commercially available adhesive. Twenty extracted single-rooted human teeth were endodontically treated. Specimens were assigned to 4 dentin bonding strategies: Group 1 (co-monomers to ethanol on ratio 1:1) and Group 2 (co-monomers to ethanol on ratio 1:2): Experimental adhesives applied in accordance with the simplified ethanol-wet bonding technique; Group 3: One-Step Plus (OSP) applied in accordance with the simplified ethanol-wet bonding technique; Group 4: OSP applied following manufacturers instructions. Bonded specimens were sectioned in 1-mm-thick slices and the push-out test was performed. Representative specimens were selected for ultrastructural examination. No statistical differences in push-out bond strength were found among the tested bonding strategies (p>0.05). The major failure pattern was between the post and the luting cement. From this study the ethanol technique should be considered as a promising approach in the luting of fiber posts into the root canal due to the possible benefits of highly hydrophobic resins. Further studies are needed to validate the use of the ethanol-wet bonding technique when luting a fiber post.

Full textThe purpose of this study was to observe the influence of dental fluorosis on the characteristics of the acid etch pattern and penetration of adhesive systems into enamel, by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and on the bond strength of adhesive systems to enamel, through microtensile testing. In order to do so, 196 permanent posterior teeth were classified according to the Thylstrup and Fejerskov Index (TF= 0.1 and 4) and 69 of them were selected. Two-steps adhesive systems, one self-etching, Clearfil SE Bond®, and one total-etching, Adper Single Bond 2®, were used. For SEM analysis of the etch pattern and of the resin replicas, 27 premolars were sectioned mesiodistally and divided into 9 groups (n=3). The buccal surfaces were selected and longitudinally sectioned, using the half for each analysis. Specimens of the phosphoric acid gel at 37% (Magic acid®) group were etched using the two etching times (15 and 60 seconds), washed with air/water for 20 seconds and dried. Specimens of the Clearfil SE Bond® group received application of the material?s primer followed by a treatment to remove it. In order to obtain the resin replicas, the surfaces were outlined (2x2mm) using insulating tape, they were treated with each adhesive and underwent the building of a resin block (Filtek Z250TM ? 3M ESPE Brazil) of 2mm height. These specimens were immersed in 18% HCl for 48 hours and washed with distilled water under ultrasonication for 15 minutes. Microtensile testing was conducted on the intact buccal surface of 42 third molars that were divided into 7 groups and subdivided according to the degree of fluorosis and to the type of adhesive system, being that two etch times (15 and 60 seconds) were used in the TF4 group. After prophylaxis with pumice, washing and drying, the adhesive systems were applied and the composite resin blocks (Filtek Z250TM ? 3M ESPE Brazil) of 5x5mm were built upon a treated surface. After 24 hours, the blocks were sectioned in the X and Y directions perpendicular to the bond interface in order to obtain stick-shaped specimens with an area of approximately 1mm2. The sticks were submitted to tensile forces at a speed of 1mm/min and the values obtained underwent variance analysis (p<0.05). The etched surfaces, the replicas and fractured sticks were processed for analysis by SEM. There was a statistically significant difference between the adhesives (p = 0.008), being that Single Bond 2® presented the highest bond strength values. The severity of fluorosis did not influence the bond strength values, the etch pattern or the formation of resin tags. The increase in etch time, tested in TF4, influenced the bond strength, showing lower values for the 60 seconds time. In conclusion, the total-etch adhesive presented better results than the self-etch one in terms of bond strength, etch pattern and penetration of adhesive systems, regardless of the degree of fluorosis. The increase in etch time for the most severe fluorosis (TF4) cases impaired bond strength.

The aim of this study was to assess the hardness and elastic modulus of resin-dentin bonding area formed by an ethanol/water-based (Adper TM Single Bond 2 [SB]) and an acetone-based system (One Step Plus [OS]), under different moisture conditions and application methods. On 24 human molars, a flat superficial dentin surface was exposed by wet abrasion. Two coats of SB or OS adhesive were applied on either a dry (D) or rewetted surface (W), under active (AA) or inactive (IA) application. After polymerization of the adhesives (600 mW/cm2/20 s), composite build-ups were constructed incrementally and specimens were stored in water (24 h). They were cross-sectioned perpendicular to the resin-dentin interface to obtain slices of 1.5 mm thickness that were embedded and polished before the test. Nanoindentations were made on composite resin, adhesive system, hybrid layer and dentin regions. The results of hardness and elastic modulus (GPa) of adhesive system and hybrid layer were analyzed by a three-way ANOVA and Tukey’s multiple comparison tests (α=0.05). The mean and standard deviation of hardness and elastic modulus values of composite resin were (1.02 ± 0.07) and (14.94 ± 0.67) respectively. In dentin, the hardness was (0.69 ± 0.10) and the elastic modulus (17.94 ± 1.84). In the adhesive layer, the highest hardness (0.38 ± 0.06) and elastic modulus (6.93 ± 0.93) of SB were obtained in W group. In this same area, the elastic modulus of OS (5.91 ± 1.12) was lowest in AA group. In the hybrid layer, the hardness of both adhesive systems was highest in AA group, however statistically significant just for OS (0.51 ± 0.2). In D group the highest hardness (0.47 ± 0.24) and elastic modulus (10.98 ± 4.65) of hybrid layer were obtained with AA. It was concluded that the active application of both adhesives in dry dentin resulted in higher hardness and elastic modulus values in the hybrid layer and the moisture increased hardness and elastic modulus values of Adper TM Single Bond 2 in the adhesive layer.

Full textThis study evaluated in vitro the hardness of the adhesive layer and the hybrid layer interface between composite and human dentin using nanohardness test (DUH). Was evaluated the bond strength by microshear test (MC) in order to observe the relationship of this resistance with the hardness property. The variation factors consist of four adhesive systems (Adper Scotchbond Multi-Purpose, Adper Single Bond 2, Clearfil SE Bond and Single Bond Universal) and two dentin depths (superficial and deep dentin). The experimental units consisted of 144 dental fragments obtained from molars vestibular area, which were divided into 16 groups, 8 groups with n = 6 for DUH test and 8 groups with n = 12 for the MC test, so the four adhesive systems were applied on dentin fragments of superficial and deep dentin. After the construction of the composite resin restorations and 24h storage at 37 °C, DUH analysis were performed using a nanoindentation device DUH-211S (Shimadzu) with load of 1mN/mseg. The MC tests were performed in a universal testing machine Instron 5942 (Instron Co) with speed 1mm/min followed by analysis of the failure site in digital microscope. Statistical analysis was performed by ANOVA (p <0.01%), Tukey, and Pearson correlation (p <0.05%). The system SB Universal (M = 31.82 ± 4.72) showed higher values of bond strength and Clearfil SE (M = 26.75 ± 3.73) lower. The Single Bond 2 (M = 28.83 ± 4.07) and Scotchbond MP (M = 28.53 ± 4.61) did not differ among themselves and had intermediate values, not differentiating the largest and the smallest value. The bond strength of superficial dentin (M = 30.45 ± 4.40) was higher than in deep dentin (M = 27.52 ± 4.01.) Universal Systems SB (M = 22.57 ± 2.42) and Scotchbond MP (M = 22.13 ± 2.89) did not differ among themselves and showed hardness values in the adhesive layer higher than Clearfil SE (M = 19.11 ± 1.23.) The system Single Bond 2 (M = 20.11 ± 1.49) showed intermediate values of hardness and was not different from the largest and smallest value. The hybrid layer in superficial dentin (M = 38.23 ± 3.08) was harder than the hybrid layer in depth dentin (M = 33.09 ± 1.85.) It can be concluded that both the adhesive system used as the dentin depth influenced the bond strength. The hardness of the adhesive layer varies depending on the system used and the SB Universal adhesive and Scotchbond MP showed higher hardness values. The hardness of the hybrid layer was influenced by the depth of the dentin substrate. We observed a direct correlation between the hardness of the adhesive layer and the bond strength.

Full textThe objective of this study was to evaluate ex vivo the Bond strength of glass-fiber posts (GF) and carbon-fiber posts (CF) to cervical, medium, and apical thirds of root canals after luting with two types of resinous cements: Self-adhesive (RX) and conventional (CP). Forty maxillary canines were divided into 4 groups (n=10) according to the luting cement and fiber post used. After roots were perpendicularly sectioned in 2mm-thick slices, bond strength teste (0.5mm/min) were perform in coronal, midlle and apical thirds. Five specimens were selected from each group for analysis in Scanning Electron Microscopy to observe the type of fracture. The data were analyzed by 2-way ANOVA (Bonferonis test, p<0.05). The results showed that highest bond strength values to GF, for both luting cements (RX and CP). Regard the type of luting cement, posts (GF and CF) luting with RX had the best performance (p<0.05) that CP. For all groups, bond strength values were higher at cervical third, followed by midlle and apical thirds. The failure analysis demonstrated a predominance of post-cohesive failure for RX, and dentin-adhesive-cement and mixed failure for CP. It was concluded that bond strength was affected by the type of fiber post and type of luting cement, where the highest bond strength values were showed by GF-post and RX-luting cement.

Full textThe aim of this study is to evaluate hardness and elasticity module of adhesive region of adhesive systems of different formulations immediately and 6 moths after the adhesive procedures. Those values will be compared to microtensile bond strength to human dentin. The hardness and elasticity module of composite resin next to adhesion region, adhesive layer, hybrid layer and dentin were evaluated. Forty sound human molars were used and prepared in order to obtain flat dentin surfaces in which the adhesive systems were applied following manufactures instructions (n=10). The groups were divided according the four adhesive systems: Adper Scotchbond Multipurpose, Adper Single Bond 2, Adper SE Plus and Clearfil SE Bond. Resin blocks of 5mm were constructed in those surfaces. After 24h of storage in distilled water at 37°C restored teeth were sectioned in order to obtain specimen with a bonded area of around 1mm2. Two specimen of each tooth were submitted to nanohardness and elasticity module test of adhesive interface. Half of the specimen were immediately submitted to the test with a crosshead speed of 0,5mm/min until fracture, the other specimen were stored for additional 6 month in 37ºC water prior to the test. The values resulting of all variables of the study were compared using ANOVA two-way. For the time factor, it was detected statiscal difference between groups in microtensile bond strength values (p=0,042), adhesive elastic modulus (p=0,000) and adhesive nanohardnes (p=0,000), the lowest values were observed in 6 months of storage. For adhesive factor, all groups presented statistical difference (p=0,000), except hybrid layer nanohardness (p=0,255). Clearfil SE bond and Scothbond systems presented the best values of bond strength and hybrid layer elastic modulus. The worse performance was demonstrated by Adper SE Plus adhesive system. For the interaction, only the adhesive nanohardness presents difference between groups (p=0,028). The Pearson correlation test detected positive correlation with microtensile bond strength tests and hybrid layer elastic modulus and negative correlation with bond strength and adhesive elastic modulus. The methodology and the results allow us to conclude that the studied mechanical properties (bond strength, modulus of elasticity of the adhesive and hybrid layer, nanohardness adhesive system and the hybrid layer) may vary depending on the adhesive system and time storage after the bonding procedures have been performed. Moreover, when an adhesive system presents a high elastic modulus of hybrid layer, it will present a high bond strength and low elastic modulus of adhesive layer.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of surface treatments on microtensile interfacial bond strength of a composite Artglass (Kulzer) to resin cement RelyX (3M). Methods of surfaces roughening or preparation included microetching with aluminum oxide (AO), Artglass Liquid (AGL), Silane (S), hydrofluoric acid (HF), and fosforic acid (AF). Five specimens, each consisting of a pair of cylinders (10x10 mm) were fabricated. The bonding surfaces were finished with 600-grit silicon carbide paper. Specimen pairs were randomly assigned to one of five surface treatment groups: group 1 (AO/AGL), group 2 (AO/AF), group 3 (AO/AF/S), group 4 (AO/HF), and group 5 (AO/HF/S). Specimen pairs were cemented with a dual resin bonding and a dual cure resin cement, in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Specimens were light-cured, then thermocycled 500 times at between 5º C and 55º C. Using a diamond disk perpendicular to the bonding interface, sticks with 1.0 mm2 cross-sectional area were obtained. Microtensile bond strengths were determined using a MTS 800 Materials Testing Machine at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min. Results: Means (n=20) and standard deviations of bond strengths (MPa) were: group 1 (29.39 +- 5.13), group 2(27.49 +- 5.32), group 3(29.49 +- 4.94), group 4 (24.41 +- 2.67), and group 5 (22.19 +- 2.33). Data were analyzed with ANOVA and Tukey Test at p<0.05. There were no significant statistical differences among the groups 1,2, and group 3; groups 4 and 5; and groups 2 and 4. Microtensile bond strengths were significantly higher in groups 1 and 3 than in groups 4 and 5; and in group 2 than in group 5. Conclusions: AO and AGL was an effective surface pretreatment; silanation may improve the bond provided by AO and etching with AF; and etching with HF is not recommended, as it decreases bond strength.

Full textThe bond strength of a glass fiber post luted to dentin with four luting agents was evaluated using the push-out test, after 24-hours and six months of storage. Eighty human single-routed teeth was selected, endodontically treated and randomly divided into four groups (n=20), modifying the luting agent used: group I: resin modified glass-ionomer (Fuji PlusTM, GC Corp., Tokyo, Japan); group II: resin cement using total-etch, three step adhesive system (RelyX ARC + Scotchbond Multi-purpose, 3M ESPE, St Paul, MN, USA); group III: resin cement using self-etch one step adhesive system (PanaviaTM F, Kuraray, Osaka, Japan); and group IV: self-adhesive resin cement (BisCemTM, Bisco Inc., Schaumburg, IL). Each group was, then, subdivided into two subgroups (n=10) modifying the storage period (24-hours and six months). The push-out test was performed with a cross-speed of 1,0 mm/min, and the results expressed in Mega Pascal (MPa). After the test, all specimen interfaces were examined with the aid of a fluorescence optic microscope (40x) to dertemine the type of failure at the complex post/cement/dentin. The mean values of the bond strength (MPa) were analyzed with the two-way ANOVA and Tukey test (p<0,005). The statistical analysis showed: 1) Significant difference in the bond strength between the luting agents, in wich the mean total value of the resin cement RelyXTM ARC + ScotchbondTM MultipurposeTM was the highest after 24 hours; 2) The bond strength of the resin cement RelyXTM ARC + ScotchbondTM MultipurposeTM and PanaviaTM F were higher than the others luting agents when evaluated after six months, and there was no significant difference among both of them; 3) An increase in the bond strength of all luting agents after six months of storage in distilled water; 4) That the cervical third had a higher bond strength compared to the middle and apical thirds for all materials, during third analysis after 24-hours and six months of storage; 5) Predominantly, it was observed mixed failures, in the majority of the cases, with a combination of adhesive failure in the post/luting agent interface and in the luting agent/radicular dentin interface. Therefore, can be concluded that the bond strength of a glass fiber post luted to dentin with different luting agents can increase after six months of storage, possibly contributed by hygroscopic expansion and the increase of the frictional retention.

Full textThis study aimed to evaluate the influence on the bond strength of glass fiber posts (GFP) with mechanical retention (WMR) and without retentions (NR), associated with three materials: RelyX ARC total-etching resin cement dual cure with Adper Single Bond (ASB) adhesive system, conventional 2 steps; RelyX U200 self-etching resin cement dual cure, and flowable resin SDR, activated by light, with Prime & Bond 2.1 adhesive system conventional 2 steps in the cervical (C), medium (M) and apical (A) thirds by the \"push-out\" test. Were selected sixty bovine incisors, had the crowns sectioned to root was standardized 17mm, were submitted to endodontic treatment, for cementing the GFP later. Were randomly divided into 2 groups (N=30), according to the GFP: WMR - with mechanical retentions (Glassix+plus ≠2) and NR - without retentions (Exacto ≠2). All GFP had conic shape. Each group was divided into 3 (N=10), according to material: RelyX ARC+ASB, RelyX U200 (self-etching) and flowable resin SDR+PB. All guidelines of manufacturers to handling time and cure time of the material were strictly adhered. The roots were kept in artificial saliva and 24 hours after GFP cementing it were sectioned perpendicular to the long axis, obtaining nine slices of approximately 1mm, which identification was done according to the corresponding third. The \"push-out\" test was performed with a universal test machine, 50N load cell; crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min, the load was applied in an apical to cervical direction until the post dislodged from the specimen, respecting the conical shape of the root canal. Subsequently, all specimens were analyzed with optical microscopy 200 times increase to evaluate failure modes. Data were tabulated considering the materials used for cementing, presence or absence of mechanical retentions in GFP and root thirds. The bond strength values (BS) were submitted to Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test, three-way ANOVA and Fisher\'s LSD test (p<0.05). The values showed statistically significant differences in thirds C, M and A, respectively for the ARC with Glassix+plus, average and standard deviation (MPa): 8.50 (4.76); 6.99 (3.55); 4.71 (2.13) and U200 with Exact post: 9.40 (4.93); 8.02 (4.67); 4.67 (1.86). SDR resin does not significantly interacted with GFP WMR 6.78 (2.72); 5.97 (2.45); 2.67 (1.55) and NR 7.24 (3.55); 6.86 (2.84); 4.10 (1.90). The microscopic analysis showed predominance of failure between cement and dentine and mixed for all groups. U200 cement with Exacto post had the best performance, followed by ARC with Glassix+plus post, SDR resin has similar performance for both GFP. All groups showed BS values higher in the cervical third, intermediate in the middle third and smaller in the apical third.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of associating root canal dentin treatments to different systems of adhesive cementation in the retention of root canal fiber resin posts (FRC Postec Plus Ivoclar Vivadent). Single root canal premolar health teeth which had their coronal part removed and root canal treated were selected for this study. Spaces for posts were prepared using specific drills. Teeth were randomly divided according to the cementation system used and root canal dentin treatment executed in the following subgroups: Variolink II, RelyX ARC, RelyX Unicem, Multilink, and zinc phosphate, used according to the manufacturers# instructions. After Variolink II and RelyX ARC cements, in association with dentin treatment solutions: 2% chlorhexidine, and 17% EDTA. After cementing, teeth were cut in six 1 mm slices, two slices per third: cervical, middle, and apical. Specimens were subjected to push out test at 0.5 mm/min speed and results analyzed using ANOVA2 and Tukey test. The type of fracture also was evaluated. Results showed that the type of cement system used, the alternative treatment used, and the root canal third region may interfere in the retention of fiber resin posts to root canal dentin.

Full textActually different alternatives to restored teeth with endodontical treatment are propose, otherwise with the advented of adhesive systems their use as luting endodontical cements and bonding resin cement for fiber posts are common. However the inherent characteristics behavior of these materials and the different variances presented at root canal, turns them sensible to failure. The aime of the study was to evaluated: a) the influence of two luting cements: containing eugenol (Endofill) and containing resin materials (Ahplus) on dentin bonding strength using push-out test at cervical, medium and apical root dentin regions, using two different 37% phosphoric acid viscosities: gel and liquid: b) the effect of the total-etching acid process on the pattern observed of the conditioned dentine substrate, c) Characterize the dentinal surface at different root regions d) Classify the fracture patterns between the substrate and the resin cement at three root regions. One hundred and four uniradicular teeth without caries lesions, extracted by orthodontics or periodontal reasons, with 7mm of diameter and 14mm of length were selected, disinfected in 0,5% chloramine and storage in distillated water at 5ºC. Endodontical canal treatments were performed using the Step-back technique and obturated with Endofill and AHplus. The preparation of the post space was 11mm depth using standardized rotary instruments. The total-etching with the gel and liquid acid were performed. The fiber posts were marked at the same depth, cuted, dry and silanized. Then two coats of Prime&bond 2,1 previously mixed with the self-cure activator, were applied at the post surface and into de root canal, after 1 minute the post were photocured (halogen light intensity of 450mW). The resin cement was mixed and placed into de canal using a lentuloespiral instrument. The posts were placed and a static force of 5kg for 10 minutes were applied, after words both adhesive and cement were photocured for 40 seconds, storage for 24 h in 37ºC, and embedded in a poliestyren resin. Cross-sectional cuts were obtained for the push-out test. The test were performed at a crosshead speed of 0,5mm/min, and a plane 20 cylindrical point was applied at the post centre. The maxim load was calculated in Mpa. The adhesive area was calculated using a tapered-cone shaped formula. The results were subjected to statistical analysis using a ANOVA test for multiple variables and a Pos Doc test(p<0,05) Statistically significant differences were detected between all the evaluated criterias: acids, cements and regions, and when they were inter-relationated between them. It was concluded that the use of 37% of phosphoric acid in a liquid form, allows a better penetration into the root canal, a uniform decalcification, consequently enhancing the bonding strength of the root dentine, particularly at apical region.

Full textThe aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of different surface treatments on resistance to degradation between In-Ceram Alumina and two resin-based cements. Sixteen experimental groups were formed according to ceramic treatment: Sandblasting (S), Rocatec System (R), Nd:YAG Laser (Nd), Nd:YAG Laser plus Rocatec System (NR); luting cement: Panavia F (Kuraray) or Relyx Unicem (3M ESPE); and aging method: water (W) or sodium hypochlorite (H). Sixty four In-Ceram Alumina blocks (10x10x6mm) received four surface treatments: Al2O3 sandblasting; Al2O3 sandblasting + Rocatec Plus; Al2O3 sandblasting + Nd:YAG Lase; Al2O3 sandblasting + Nd:YAG Laser + Rocatec Plus. Each conditioned ceramic block was bonded to a composite block using a resin cement system. After 24h storage time, the blocks were sectioned to obtain sticks with cross-sectional area of 1.0mm2. The specimens were loaded to failure in a universal testing machine at a crosshead speed of 0.5mm/min. The fractured surface morphology of the debonded specimens was observed (40X) to evaluate the fracture pattern. Failure modes were classified as adhesive, cohesive in ceramic, cohesive in resin cement and mixed. The ceramic treatment and the aging method significantly affected the microtensile bond strength. Nd:YAG surface treatment resulted in the best bond strength values. To groups luted with Panavia F cement the microtensile bond strength values were: SW: 27,71±6,3; RW: 35,67±5,13; NdW: 42,49±6,8; NdRW: 37,41±4,76; SH: 22,27±6,05; RH: 27,49±8,83; NdH: 32,24±6,94; NdRH: 31,75±7,77. To groups luted with RelyX cement: SW: 26,74±6,34; RW: 35,07±6,02; NdW: 41,05±7,71; NdRW: 33,85±6,03; SH: 22,77±7,37; RH: 27,84±6,26; NdH: 36,42±5,08; NdRH: 27,6±5,8. Nd:YAG laser was the most effective surface treatment, followed by Nd:YAG+Rocatec, Rocatec and Al2O3 sandblasting. Resin cements presented similar behaviors in spite of aging. NaOCl 12h-immersion decreased Bond strength values.

Full textThe restoration of endodontically treated teeth commonly presents a challenge in cases of extensive crown-root destruction. Due to their ease of handling, lightactivated composite resins present a better option for intracanal reinforcement before the use of a fiber posts. The aim of this ex vivo study was to evaluate the influence of filling materials in the root reinforcement of weakened experimentally roots restored with composed resin and quartz fiber post by means of push-out bond strength evaluation and scanning electronic microscopy (SEM) analysis of the dentin/resin/cement/post interface. The crowns of 50 upper maxillary canines were removed and the length of roots standardized in 17 mm. After root canal preparation, the specimens were randomly divide into one control (n=10) (normal post preparation with no previous filling) and one experimental groups (n=40). All specimens in the experimental group had their canals enlarged in such a way as to produce a circumferential space of approximately 1.0 mm between the fiber post and the circumjacent dentine walls, using diamond tips. Then, the specimens of the experimental group were subdivided into four subgroups (n=10), according to the filling materials: (G1) Endofill + gutta-percha; (G2) AH Plus + gutta-percha; (G3) Epiphany + gutta-percha; (G4): Epiphany + Resilon. After 24 h of the root canal filling, the canals of all specimens were prepared into 12 mm. The intracanal dentine was etched with 32% phosphoric acid (15s), rinsed with deionised water (30s) and gently dried with absorbent paper points. A 3-step etch-and-rinse adhesive system (All Bond 2) was applied to the slightly moist dentine with disposable microbrush tips. For root reinforcement, each canal was bulk filled with a translucent composite resin (Bis-Core) and a fiber post (DT Light Post) was centrally inserted into the resin mass along the whole post space extension. Light-curing was performed with a conventional device by placing the tip perpendicularly through the post for 20s. After 24 h of the post cementation, the specimens were sectioned perpendicularly to its long axis in 3 slices, with 1 mm of thickness. The bond strength was performed by the push-out test and, after dislodgments, the failures were observed in the stereomicroscope. The specimens were processed for SEM analysis to observe bonding interface formation, hybrid layer quality and resin tag density using a fourstep scale method. The statistical analysis of the bond strength, in MPa, after the push-out test, indicated difference between control (15,4 ± 6,91) and experimental groups (GI - 11.41 ± 4.66; GII - 9.97 ± 3.41; GIII - 10.12 ± 4.18; e GIV - 9.0 ± 4.17) (ANOVA, post-hoc Tukey test, p<0,05), but not between the evaluated regions (p>0.05). The adhesive failures were frequent in the weakened groups as either in the control group. In SEM, the qualitative analysis showed formation of hybrid layer, resin tags and lateral branches in all the analyzed regions, independently of the group. The quantitative analysis (Kruskal-Wallis test, α=0.05) indicated that previous root canal filling did not influence in the hybrid layer and resin tags formation. Within the limitations of this study, it may be concluded that previous root canal filling have reduced the bond strength in the weakened group, but the type of sealer did not influence in the results.

Full textThis study aimed to assess, through dentin hardness analysis, push-out tests and laser confocal microscopy, the influence of root canal final irrigation with 0.2% chitosan and 15% EDTA among endodontic cement adhesion and penetration through the dentinal tubules. Fifty human upper canines were selected. After crowns cut off and removal, roots were instrumented with Reciproc® and 1% sodium hypochlorite. The specimens were divided into 5 groups (n = 10) according to final irrigation protocol: G1- conventional irrigation with 15% EDTA; G2-EndoVac use + 15% EDTA; G3- conventional irrigation with 0.2% chitosan; G4-EndoVac use with 0.2% chitosan; G5- control group (without final irrigation). Roots were filled by lateral condensation technique with AH Plus and sectioned transversely. The first slice of each third was reserved for bond strength shear extrusion (SE) tests, and the second slice for dentin microhardness and laser confocal microscopy analysis. Data were submitted to descriptive statistical analysis with absolute numbers, means, standard deviations and Kruskal-Wallis variance analysis followed by Tukey\'s test. A significance level of 5% was considered. Results showed that in all groups there was a reduction in dentin microhardness, with significantly difference if compared with the control group (p=0.001). In intra-groups comparisons between G1, G2 and G3, cervical third sealer penetration was higher than apical third (p<0.005). In the G4 there was no significant difference between thirds (p=0.481). In the SE cervical and apical thirds comparisons, showed to be similar among all irrigation protocols, with statistically difference from the control group (p<0.001). The bond strength observed in the cervical third was statistically higher to the other thirds (p<0.001). In specimens cervical third, there was a predominance of mixed failures (55.4%) and adhesive failures on obturation in the middle (58.8%) and apical (56.8%) thirds. It can be concluded that regardless of the protocol, the studied solutions reduced the microhardness in the three root thirds, favored tubules cement penetration and increased dentin walls cement adhesion if compared to the control group.

Full textObjective: verify, by finite element analysis (FEA) and laboratorial tests, if the torsion bond strength test is able to lead adhesive interface to fracture under shear stress and if it would be more advantageous than wire-loop shear test. Material and method: for stress analysis by finite element method, the 3D models of both tests consisted of a resin composite cylinder, an adhesive layer and a dentin cylinder with a larger diameter. The specimens were simulated with both conventional and micro sizes, in a 5:1 ratio, except for the adhesive layer, kept in a constant thickness. Two values of elastic modulus were simulated for the composite cylinder (hybrid and flowable). For the shear models, different distances were simulated between the load point and the adhesive interface. The values of maximum principal and maximum shear stresses and the ratio between both types were analyzed along the adhesive interface, as well as the maximum principal vectors direction and the local of stress peaks. For the laboratorial tests, cylinders of hybrid and flowable resin composite, in both micro and conventional sizes, were adhered onto dentin surfaces by means of 3 adhesive systems. The shear load was applied with a metallic wire-loop at distances from the interface based on literature and, for the torsion test, the torque was applied by specific apparatus developed for that. The values of bond strength were submitted to analysis of variance and Tukeys test. Fracture surfaces were analyzed by scan electron microscopy. The frequencies of fracture types were compared by Fishers test and its relationship with bond strength values were verified, as well as the relationship between fracture features and stresses results obtained by FEA. The experimental parameters for comparison between both tests were: ability for detecting significant differences among the 3 adhesives, change of adhesives ranking while varying the test configuration and frequency of fracture types. Results: both tests showed non-uniform stress distribution. It was not noticed a lower sensibility of torsion test results to changes of the test configurations, nor a major ability for detecting significant differences among the adhesive systems than showed the shear test. The torsion test showed to be more difficult to execute and exhibited a higher frequency of cohesive fracture, however, that occurred most of the time in the composite cylinder, while it occurred mainly in dentin in shear test. There was no certainty about the kind of stress that lead to specimen fracture in both tests. Conclusions: although there was no certainty about the kind of stress that lead to specimen fracture and the major difficulty of execution of torsion test, this test exhibited a feature that suggests future studies: the occurrence of cohesive fracture mainly in the composite cylinder, which could be solved, maybe, by reinforcing the cylinder material.
