Abstract:
This study aimed to investigate the phytochemical constituents and antimi-crobial activities of the crude methanol extracts of leaves of Euphorbia re-tusa Forssk and Euphorbia terracina L. collected from Saudi Arabia (Al-Rass province). Extracts of both plants showed presence of some bioactive phyto-chemicals such as tannins, saponins, terpenoids and traces of alkaloids for E. terracina; and tannins, saponins, flavonoids, alkaloids and terpenoids for E. retusa. Among investigated microorganisms, methanol extracts exhibited some degree of antimicrobial activity towards some microorganisms; name-ly,Candida albicans ATCC 1405, Staphylococcus epidermidis ATCC 49461, Bacillus cereus ATCC 10876 and Klebsiella pneumonia ATCC 27736 respec-tively for E. retusa and towards Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923.Staphylococcus epidermidis ATCC 49461,Candida albicans ATCC 1405,Bacillus cereus ATCC 10876 and Klebsiella pneumonia ATCC 27736 re-spectively for E. terracina. MIC testing was ranged from 100 to 6.2 mg/ml, proving the antimicrobial potency of these plants’ extracts against some mi-croorganisms. Further studies regarding purification and fractionation are required since the antimicrobial activities of tested extracts were not com-petitor when compared to the antibiotics Chloramphenicol 25mg/ml or Clot-rimazole 10 mg/ml.

Abstract:
Euphorbia species possess pharmacological properties that have been widely used for medical purposes worldwide. In this paper, three plants belonging to the Euphorbia genus growing in North-East of Algeria were studied. The phenolic contents were identified using LC-MS, while the fatty acid composition of their fixed oils was determined with GC-MS. The quantification of the total condensed tannins and the leaves' entire anthocyanin content were performed using photometric methods. The main constituents of the polyphenolic compounds identified by LC-MS were ascorbic, chlorogenic, and ellagic acids. The oil yield of the seeds of E. terracina, E. biumbellata, and E. dendroides was 17.48%, 18.5%, and 20.05%, respectively. Quantitative analyses of these oils using GC-MS showed variations in the species' fatty acid constituents' concentrations and compositions. Besides, the phytochemical screening results showed that E. terracina possessed a high amount of tannin and anthocyanin content compared with other studied plants.

Abstract:
The delimitation of Limonium taxa is highly complicated due to hybridization, polyploidy, and apomixis. Many “microspecies” were described and aggregated into groups, most of which are still poorly known from both molecular and morphological points of view. The aim of this study is to investigate four endemic species from the Tyrrhenian coast of central Italy and the Ponziane Archipelago belonging to the L. multiforme group (L. amynclaeum, L. circaei, L. pandatariae, and L. pontium) by means of molecular and morphometric analyses. Molecular data by sequencing ITS and three plastid markers and morphometric data highlight new information about the taxonomy of these taxa so as to reduce them into a single specific entity. In fact, the better taxonomic choice is to consider the populations studied as part of a single species, i.e., Limonium pontium. Three subspecies are recognized, i.e., subsp. pontium [= L. circaei = L. amynclaeum; from Circeo to Gianola localities (excluding Terracina) and from islands Ponza, Palmarola, Zannone, and Santo Stefano], subsp. pandatariae comb. et stat. nov. (from island of Ventotene), and subsp. terracinense subsp. nov. (from Terracina).

Abstract:

Abstract. The area of the “Foro Emiliano”, the current “Piazza del Municipio” in the coastal town of Terracina in southern Latium, consists of an articulated group of building belonging to different historical moments. On the roman pavement of the forensic square stand out: a Roman theatre, the urban cathedral, medieval houses, a roman temple and recent buildings dating from the first half of the 20th century. Thanks to recent funding the “Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio per le province di Frosinone, Latina e Rieti” has undertaken the demolition of some modern houses insisting on the theatre’s porticus post scaenam and began an excavation of the entirely preserved cavea of the Roman theatre building. These interventions of urban archaeology were taken as an opportunity to plan an impressive 3D survey of the historic center, aiming: on one side at monitoring demolition and excavation work, offering a cartographic base for valorization projects, and on the other at the investigation of a vast monumental area. This paper analyses in detail the phases of integration, alignment, filtering and post processing of the acquired data, showing with evidence how the integration of active and passive sensors is the best approach in similar scenario.

Abstract:
AbstractCutandia maritima is a circum-Mediterranean species that inhabits sandy dunes along the coast line. It is fairly frequent on the western Adriatic coast but fairly rare and possibly even non-native in the east. In Croatia, it was discovered in 1990 in Crnika Bay on the island of Rab, which was considered until 2005 to be the only site on the eastern Adriatic coast from the Gulf of Trieste in the north to Corfu in the south. In 2009, the species was briefly reported for Velika plaža (Long Beach) in Ulcinj (Montenegro) but without details about the habitat type and synecology. The aim of this paper is thus to provide a deeper insight into the ecology and synecology of C. maritima in the eastern Adriatic part of the distribution area. On Velika plaža in Ulcinj, the species was found along the whole sea-inland gradient of sand dunes, in various types of vegetation: [1210] - annual vegetation of drift lines, [2110] - embryonic shifting dunes, [2120] - shifting dunes with Ammophila arenaria (white dunes), [2220] - dunes with Euphorbia terracina, [2130*] - fixed coastal dunes with herbaceous vegetation (grey dunes), and also [2190] - humid dune slacks.

Abstract:
Abstract Despite being only a minor member of the Neapolitan Accademia degli Incogniti and being far less known than prominent members of the academy such as Laura Terracina, Giovan Domenico di Lega published the highly significant sacred tragedy Morte di Christo in 1549. The text mirrors the classicist poetics of an Aristotelian tragedy and emphasises the belief of partial adaptability of Aristotelian concepts to the neotestamentarian content of Christ’s passion and crucifixion. Thus transforming the traditional Sacra rappresentazione into a “tragedia sacra”, di Lega choses not only a typical approach of Renaissance poetics to biblical texts, he also stages mainly the gospel according to John. In doing so he not only shows to be a philologist rather than a teller of pious legends like the authors of Sacre rappresentazioni, but he also presents himself as a supporter of a free circulation of the New Testament in its vernacular version, which was suppressed in Naples being part of the Spanish territories. In clear opposition to Spanish politics of religion in Naples, but in accordance with other members of the Accademia degli Incogniti and the former group of ‘spirituali’ around Juan de Valdés, who died in Naples in 1541, di Lega combines the major texts of a not only ‘Lutheran’ reform – the gospel according to John and the letter of saint Paul to the Romans – with the spirituali’s manifesto Il beneficio di Cristo, prohibited and burned shortly afterwards. In an increasingly orthodox environment such as Naples during the 1540 s di Legas Tragedia sacra with its combination of Renaissance poetics and explosive elements of religious reform could not be of great success, therefore there exists no further edition after the one of 1549. Nonetheless it witnesses the aborted attempts of Catholic reform in mid sixteenth century Naples.

Bone turnover and bone mineral density in young adult partients with panhypopituitarism before and after long-term growth hormone therapy. Eur J Endocrinol 1995;132:42–6. ISSN 0804–4643 We examined the effects of biosynthetic growth hormone (GH) on biochemical indices of bone turnover and on bone mineral density in a group of GH-deficient adults. Thirteen patients (eight males and five females) aged 24 ± 5 years (range 16–35) were studied before and 12 and 24 months after GH treatment (0.1 IU, kg− day−1, 6 days a week). Serum levels of insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I), calcitonin, parathyroid hormone, alkaline phosphatase, intact osteocalcin, fasting urinary hydroxyproline/creatinine ratio and bone mineral density (BMD), measured at the lumbar spine by dualphoton absorptiometry, were evaluated. After 12 months of treatment, IGF-I, alkaline phosphatase, osteocalcin and the fasting urinary hydroxyproline/creatinine ratio increased significantly. However, after 24 months of therapy, serum levels of osteocalcin decreased to pretreatment values while IGF-I, fasting urinary hydroxyproline/creatinine ratio and alkaline phosphatase remained elevated significantly. No changes were found in parathyroid hormone and calcitonin plasma levels or in BMD either after 12 or 24 months of treatment. These data demonstrate that GH, at the dosage that we used, activates bone turnover during 24 months of therapy in adults with panhypopituitarism, even if a downward trend for osteocalcin became apparent at 24 months. However, this activation in bone turnover was not accompanied by an increase in BMD. We can hypothesize that GH, at the relatively high dosage used, may stimulate osteoclastic activity to a greater extent than osteoblastic activity. It is probable that the dose of GH replacement therapy in adults plays a key role R Balducci, Dipartimento di Sanita Pubblica, Universita "Tor Vergata", Via di Tor Vergata 38, 00173 Roma, Italy

Abstract:
The paper deals with terracing techniques for multi-storey residential buildings on flat terrain. The relevance of terracing application in modern architecture is substantiated, as this architectural and planning method allows not only to radically change the visual qualities of a residential building, but also to enhance the planning qualities of apartments, supplementing them with additional individual open spaces. The paper outlines the classification of terracing techniques for multi-storey residential buildings from the point of forming their volumetric and spatial composition. An analysis of different terracing methods with examples from current world practice is presented. The presented terracing techniques demonstrate the great potential of this method in design practice both for achieving expressive architecture of buildings and complexes, and for improving the quality of urbanized residential environment in general.

Abstract:
Let X be a smooth projective variety and f:X→Pr a morphism birational onto its image. We define the Terracini loci of the map f. Most results are only for the case dimX=1. With this new and more flexible definition, it is possible to prove strong nonemptiness results with the full classification of all exceptional cases. We also consider Terracini loci with restricted support (solutions not intersecting a closed set B⊊X or solutions containing a prescribed p∈X). Our definitions work both for the Zariski and the euclidean topology and we suggest extensions to the case of real varieties. We also define Terracini loci for joins of two or more subvarieties of the same projective space. The proofs use algebro-geometric tools.

Abstract:
The impact of terracing construction on the soil moisture content of slope farmland was analyzed at three sites in northeast China’s black soil region, across a range of latitudes and hydrological, temperature and soil quality conditions. At each research site, slope farmland with terracing was compared to unterraced slope farmland with a similar shape and gradient. During the wet crop growth period (July) and dry postharvest period (October) of 2022, the TRIME-PICO64TDR soil moisture measuring instrument was used to measure the soil moisture content at depths of 0–60 cm. Terracing increased soil moisture content by up to 2.83 percentage points during the crop growth period and by up to 1.69 percentage points during the postharvest period. Terracing had a significant impact on the volumetric soil moisture content of the shallower soil layer (0–30 cm) during the growing period, and on the volumetric soil moisture content of the deeper soil layer (30–60 cm) during the postharvest period. Terracing weakens the effect of slope position on volumetric soil moisture, reducing differences in volumetric soil moisture content among different slope positions. The difference in the water conservation benefit of terracing among the sites is mainly related to soil quality: the lower the soil bulk density and the higher the silt clay content is, the greater the benefit of terracing for retaining moisture. The findings of this study can be beneficial for guiding management measures for slope arable soil in black soil regions around the world.

Abstract:
We continue the study of Terracini loci formed by x points of a variety embedded in a projective space. Our main results are a refined study of Terracini loci arising from linear projections, the description of the maximal x with a non-empty Terracini locus for Hirzebruch surfaces, and the maximal “weight”, “corank”, or “defect” in several cases. For low x, we even show which defects can occur.

Abstract:
We study properties of the minimal Terracini loci, i.e., families of certain zero-dimensional schemes, in a projective plane. Among the new results here are: a maximality theorem and the existence of arbitrarily large gaps or non-gaps for the integers x for which the minimal Terracini locus in degree d is non-empty. We study similar theorems for the critical schemes of the minimal Terracini sets. This part is framed in a more general framework.

Abstract:
In semi-arid and arid terrestrial ecosystems, terracing and vegetation may improve soil conditions and enhance habitats. Considerable recent works have focused on evaluating how terracing and vegetation affect individual ecosystem function, but none of these evaluations included soil ecosystem multifunctionality (SEMF), which has a positive significance for optimizing soil ecosystem management. Based on the survey data of six different combinations of terracing and vegetation in the Chinese Loess Plateau, 15 functional indicators related to soil fertility, nutrient transformation/cycling, and water conservation were selected. The maximum conversion of the mean value method was employed to quantify SEMF. Concerning individual ecosystem services, the capacities of half-moon terraces-Pinus tabulaeformis (Ht-P. tabulaeformis) and level benches-Caragana korshinskii (Lb-C. korshinskii) to maintain soil fertility were 43.25% and 42.01% higher than those of counter-slope terraces-Platycladus orientalis (Ct-P. orientalis). On the contrary, Ct-P. orientalis showed better nutrient transformation and cycling services, which was 9.23% higher than those of Ht-P. tabulaeformis, therefore, we observed the highest SEMF in the Ht-P. tabulaeformis. Terracing, with a 29.2% explained variation, had a greater influence than that of vegetation (12.6%), while the coupling effect of terracing and vegetation (37.9%) was the most important factor that determined the SEMF. Thus, Ht-P. tabulaeformis and Lb-C. korshinskii should be promoted in the Loess Plateau area. The results of this study have significance in terms of understanding the interactions between terracing, vegetation, and soil ecosystems.

Abstract:
Earlier work on the terraced settlements of the Bokoni area (16th to 19th century, Mpumalanga province, South Africa) focussed on the homesteads, their contents, layout and chronology. This paper suggests a terminology and typology of agrarian structures in Bokoni in order to improve comparative approaches in Africa and beyond. The typology and an excavation of the terracing permit possible preliminary conclusions relevant for the further analysis of the terracing and stone-walling in Bokoni. The terracing developed incrementally, whereby cultivation, stone-clearing and terracing were intermixed processes. This is supported both by the organic content in a section of a terrace and by a phytolith analysis. The phytolith analysis furthermore indicated that maize was cultivated on the terraces, but this should be seen as a pilot study only, and presence of maize in Bokoni must be tested with other archaeobotanical methods.

Abstract:
Fix a format (n1+1)×⋯×(nk+1), k>1, for real or complex tensors and the associated multiprojective space Y. Let V be the vector space of all tensors of the prescribed format. Let S(Y,x) denote the set of all subsets of Y with cardinality x. Elements of S(Y,x) are associated to rank 1 decompositions of tensors T∈V. We study the dimension δ(2S,Y) of the kernel at S of the differential of the associated algebraic map S(Y,x)→PV. The set T1(Y,x) of all S∈S(Y,x) such that δ(2S,Y)>0 is the largest and less interesting x-Terracini locus for tensors T∈V. Moreover, we consider the one (minimally Terracini) such that δ(2A,Y)=0 for all A⊈S. We define and study two different types of subsets of T1(Y,x) (primitive Terracini and solution sets). A previous work (Ballico, Bernardi, and Santarsiero) provided a complete classification for the cases x=2,3. We consider the case x=4 and several extremal cases for arbitrary x.

Abstract:
BackgroundRheumatoid arthritis (RA) is one of the most common autoimmune diseases and have been shown to be more vulnerable to SARS-CoV-2 infection. Numerous COVID-19 vaccines have demonstrated significant efficacy in reducing SARS-CoV-2 infection and severe cases[1]. Booster vaccinations played an imoprtant role in maintaining this protection.ObjectivesThe use of COVID-19 vaccines is considered to potentially provoke autoimmunity by molecular mimicry, and subsequently trigger flare of underlying autoimmune diseases[2, 3]. Little is known about the delicate immune responses after inactived SARS-CoV-2 booster vaccination in RA.MethodsThree RA patients who were in remission were prospectively enrolled. Peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) were collected 1 week before and after their inactivated SARS-CoV-2 booster vaccination, respectively. Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) combined with scTCR/BCR-seq analyses were performed using the 10x Genomics Single Cell technique.ResultsVaccination with booster vaccination only had limited impact on the composition of peripheral immune cells in RA patients, but significantly altered the proportion in myeloid cells, B cells and plasma cells. Transcriptomic changes, which were mostly involved in antibody production as well as B cell activation and differentiation, were observed after booster vaccination. No pro-inflammatory response genes were found to be significantly upregulated in SARS-CoV-2 booster vaccinated RA individuals. Moreover, single-cell TCR/BCR analysis showed a different clone expansion and repertoire diversity after booster vaccination.ConclusionOur study provide a comprehensive single cell atlas of the peripheral immune response and TCR/BCR immune repertoire profiles to SARS-CoV-2 booster vaccination in RA patients, which helps us to better understand COVID-19 vaccination and immunization.References[1]Bechman K, Dey M, Yates M, Bukhari M, Winthrop K, Galloway J B. Abstract:
