Abstract:
Tennis is a challenging sport to learn. Novice children players (5-8 years old) need a certain amount of practice to reach both consistency and mastery in their strokes. In an attempt to support the coach and help the players to remain active, ©Artengo designed an equipment consisting of increasing the hitting volume during a practice session: The Tennis Wall. The objectives of the present study were i) to propose a practice session including the use of the Tennis Wall, ii) to evaluate the influence of adding the Tennis Wall on the hitting volume in a practice session with novice children tennis players. A practice session with the Tennis Wall allowed to hit about 3 times more balls for each young tennis player compared with a traditional practice session. Although the results of this study need to be confirmed with a larger sample of participants and more training sessions, they suggest that the Tennis Wall can be an interesting support to learn tennis due to the increased repetition of strikes which contributes to skill acquisition.

Abstract:
The aim of this study was to identify the differences in body composition and physical fitness between children who played table tennis regularly during a two-year period compared to physically active children who were not engaged in a regular activity. Three hundred seventy-four children aged 10 to 11 years were divided into two groups: table tennis players (n = 109 boys and 73 girls) and physically active group (n = 88 boys and 104 girls). Anthropometric analysis included body mass index, skinfolds, perimeters and bone diameters. Somatotype and body composition were determined according to age-specific equations. Physical fitness assessment included hand grip dynamometry (strength), sit-and-reach test (range of movement) and maximal multistage 20 m shuttle run test (cardiovascular fitness). The result show that children who regularly played table tennis had greater bone development and superior physical fitness compared to those who were physically active but not engaged in a regular physical activity. This is the largest study to date presenting data about the potential of table tennis to benefit health in children. These results constitute an important first step in clarifying the effectiveness of table tennis as a health-promotion strategy to encourage children to undertake regular physical activity and limit sedentary behavior.

Abstract:
MULTILATERAL COORDINATION EXERCISE SYSTEMS IN THE TENNIS FIELD WITH CHILDREN AGED 8 TO 12 ABSTRACT This research work seeks to improve multilateral coordination through a system of multilateral exercises that are relevant in the field of play tennis actions with children. At the present it is very important, because the work is carried out at the level like: motor, cognitive and psychological that in turn are essential in the training stage, if we analyze all the skills and abilities to be developed, because we see that coordination is present in all of them, in children the development of the motor area is fundamental for the performance of their daily activities, also to optimize since the development from training, one of the limitations for many teachers and coaches is the variability in the development of exercises and pedagogical processes in the field of tennis, which it constitutes in one of the fundamental pillars to improve this capacity, whereby this research proposes a methodology for the multilateral coordination in the practice of the field tennis in children from 8 to 12 years old, focused on the exercise system that develops this sport. From the theoretical point of view, the subject finds a great support in the Physical Activity Sciences literature, in search of the coordinative capacity, which is why this work allowed us to base the practical proposal of multilateral coordination exercises with great objectivity; offering a systematization to the diversity of ideas, opinions and scientific results of researchers who have dealt with the subject; attesting to the scientific nature of this research work where its theoretical pertinence and scientific value and relevance lies. Abstract:
The heart rate intensity during 20 minutes of sports participation by circumpubertal children was monitored several times over a season. The competitive games’ mean absolute heart rates for basketball, badminton, netball, and tennis were 170, 159, 168, and 162 bts·min−1 (or 72, 75, 69, and 67% of heart rate maximum), respectively. The mean abolute heart rates for 20 minutes of participation under practice conditions for badminton, basketball, netball, and tennis were 149, 157, 144, and 135 bts·min−1, or 73, 75, 69, and 67% of heart rate maximum. At the 0.05 level of probability there was a significant difference between the heart rate intensities under competitive game and practice situations in the badminton, netball, and tennis groups. The difference between intensities of competitive games and practices was nonsignificant in the basketball players. The study concluded that participation in practice and game conditions was positive in providing the potential for a training stimulus.

Abstract:
Changes in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rulebook at the beginning of 2019 regarding the special ranking for pregnancy or parental start and the uprising in sports psychology investigations regarding this theme in elite sport, inspired this study. The aim was to explore whether the changes in the WTA regulations modifies the vision of the possibility to combine motherhood and professional tennis career in both current and former elite tennis players. Participants were 10 Spanish female elite tennis players, some mothers (n = 3) and others non-mothers (n = 7). For data collection, a semi-structured interview was used and, through thematic content analysis, three themes were defined: (a) game, set and match: is it enough just by changing the rules? (b) Centre court: to serve tennis player and mom vs. at the return tennis player and (c) warning coaching: tennis as a team sport. The results of the study revealed that motherhood and an elite tennis career is possible to combine even though it is still a feat for the mother athlete. Our study suggests strategies that could favour motherhood with an elite tennis career: (a) have the support from the athletes’ entourage, (b) having financial support or funding, (c) have some areas or rooms destined for children in tournaments and (d) provide basic services for children in tournaments.

Abstract:
Aim: The purpose of this pilot study was to quantify the effect of a continued active video games (AVG) playing on the tennis forehand and backhand technique development. Methods: Altogether 24 tennis players (7 – 9 year olds) were randomly divided in two different groups, both involved in a 12-week tennis training program (twice a week for an hour). The participants in the experimental group received an additional twice a week (20-minute) AVG Virtua Tennis 4 game intervention at the end of each regular tennis training hour, while the participants in the control group received no additional intervention. Pre- and post-AVG intervention, the Tennis Rating Score for Children scale (TRSC) was applied to detect tennis training-related changes that occur in each specific stroke. Results: Our results at the post-test show that participants in the experimental group did not significantly improved in one element (TRSC12; p = 0,317) in the forehand stroke and two (TRSC10; p = 0,157 and TRSC12 p = 0,157) in the backhand. The control group significantly improved in all the fifteen evaluated elements in both the forehand and backhand stroke. The experimental group had a higher effect size in all the kinetic chain section in both the forehand and backhand stroke compared to the control. The same happens for the TRSC7 (point of contact – height). Conclusion: Prolonged AVG playing seems to improve visual attentions skills (perception of a moving object) in young tennis players, giving them the opportunity to be able to prepare themselves for the oncoming ball sooner as compared to their control counterparts. From the other perspective, AVG were shown to negatively affect correct players positioning, especially at the beginning and at the end of a stroke. Abstract:
Tennis 10 is a method based on the principle of "Game Based Approach", used mainly for children between the age of 7-10 (sometimes in the case of adults also) and using game materials adapted to the players' age (lower nets, sponge balls, smaller wooden or plastic rackets), thus making it easier for the players to learn the game. The method is effective for the quick learning of tennis because the use of materials adapted to the players' size allows more time to react, giving the players self-confidence and increasing their motivation to play and progress. The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of the Tennis 10 method on the development of general motor skills in children, considering that the general physical training helps develop the body harmoniously, being also a premise and a condition for getting remarkable results in tennis.

Abstract:
This article analyzes the data of the scientific and methodological literature on the use of table tennis classes for the purpose of strengthening the physical health of middle-aged schoolchildren. The current state of health of middle-aged schoolchildren requires changes in the system of physical education, which will diversify the process of raising children and have a positive effect on the further development of the personality. The maximum rates of cognitive and physical development of children of secondary school age will always require special attention of scientists regarding the correctness of the organization of physical education lessons in this period. Playing table tennis is one of the sports that affects the development of children's basic physical and mental qualities. Table tennis improves movement speed, reaction speed, prediction speed, develops operational thinking, as well as the ability to concentrate and switch attention. A systematic analysis of the state of health of the school-age population of Ukraine shows that in recent years the incidence and prevalence of diseases have been destabilizing, which, despite the positive trend, remain high [2; 4]. Therefore, there is a need to use sports equipment, namely table tennis, to provide recreational and recreational activities for children in institutions of general secondary education to increase the physical activity of school-age children.

Abstract:
Previous research on contextual interference theory in controlled laboratory situations consistently illustrated that random practice was superior to blocked practice when learning motor skills. However, when considered in relation to physical education class settings the findings of the contextual interference experiments were not as uniform. Furthermore, the results of the contextual interference research were ambiguous when an open skill was used as the experimental task, with no definite trend evident. Random practice was found more effective for learning (del Rey, 1989) whereas French, Rink and Werner (1990) demonstrated blocked practice to be superior. In the present study, the influence of high and low contextual interference as practice schedules was investigated within an applied sports setting using an open sports skill as the experimental task. Two groups of boys and girls, 8-9 and 10-12 years of age, were taught a forehand tennis groundstroke using both their preferred and non-preferred hands over a ten week coaching and practice period. The findings showed that male subjects were significantly better at the experimental task than female subjects at the pre-test stage only. The result also demonstrated that the 10-12 year old subjects were significantly better than the 8-9 year olds at the task with the exception of the preferred hand at the post and retention test stage. The contextual interference effect was demonstrated in the retention phase on the preferred hand of the 10-12 year old subjects where the random practice group was significantly better than the blocked practice group in an applied sports setting. These findings were discussed in relation to the role of cognition in the learning of these motor skills and the influence of the subjects related background experiences.

The purpose of this study was to examine parental involvement and children’s motivation to tennis based on the parents’ perspectives. The study was related to Tennis Syds ongoing project Tennis10s. There were 64 parents involved in age 31-58 (m= 41.69 sd= 5.14) of which 26 were women (m= 40.08 sd= 4.98) and 38 men (m= 42.79 sd= 5.01) who had children in ages 6-11 playing tennis. The study used the instruments Motivation To Sports and Parental Involvement Sports Questionnaire. The results indicated that parents rated friendship, team spirit, enjoyment and competence as the main motivational factors why their children are playing tennis. Parents rated praise and understanding and active involvement as the most frequent behaviors in their perceived involvement about their child's tennis participation. The results also indicated that fathers used instructive behavior more often than mothers. The results were discussed based on previous research and theoretical framework.

Abstract:
Promoting participation in sport to achieve sporting excellence and health outcomes is a national policy of Australia. Organised, club-based sport at community level is important as it provides a pathway to elite sporting success and contributes to health and wellbeing of participants. Dropout from all forms of club-based sports including tennis occurs specifically during adolescence in Australia and internationally. Little is known about the factors that collectively influence this age group in their choice to continue playing club-sport or to drop out. This PhD program of research investigated the trends and determinants of retention and dropout among children and adolescents playing community level club-based tennis in the Australian state of Victoria. The program of research used the socio-ecological model underpinned by Leisure Constraint Theory and Fun Integration Theory to understand the different factors that influence retention. The mixed-methods explanatory sequential research design comprised of two consecutive phases of quantitative study that involved secondary data analysis of state-wide club-tennis participation and an on-line survey that examined the determinants of retention and dropout with a socio-ecological perspective. This was followed by an informed qualitative study to explore the key findings in depth. Players aged 10-18 years who were or had been registered players at tennis clubs in Victoria were invited to participate. Analysis of survey data and interviews identified a range of factors that influence and impact the decision of young players to continue playing club-based tennis or to drop out. The result from this program of research highlighted the two intrapersonal determinants ‘enjoyment’ and ‘competency’ as ‘core’ determinants of young players’ choice to be retained or to drop out. Many previous studies have listed enjoyment and competency and several other socio-ecological factors as determinants influencing retention. This research created new knowledge by explaining how each individual socio-ecological element influenced retention through enhancing or diminishing the two core determinants. Mapping of the interaction of multiple socio-ecological elements in leading to retention or dropout while presenting enjoyment and competency as core determinants is unique. Improving retention in club-based tennis during adolescence is important for maintaining participation as a habit into adulthood. As a practical way to achieve this, factors that are identified in this study as influencing enjoyment and competency can be targeted through interventions at various levels through policies and strategies in delivering club programs, coaching and competition. Competency and enjoyment are interconnected in promoting retention. Increasing access to affordable and good quality coaching promotes enjoyment through improving competency and hence should be prioritised to sustain children’s interest and passion for the game. The knowledge about interconnectivity of several apparently distinct elements reiterates the importance of a holistic approach in sport retention studies. It provides the theoretical backing for strategies aimed at retaining more children and adolescents in organised sport which is important for carrying regular physical activity habit into adulthood and ensuring sustainability of organised sports.

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The purpose of this study is to investigate the role of sport psychology injunior tennis and to determine: • whether coaches make use of psychological interventions, • whether coaches consider psychological interventions in junior tennis to be important, • what kind of psychological interventions coaches make use of, and • what kind of problems coaches encounter while teaching psychological interventions to junior tennis players. Questionnaires were mailed off to all professional tennis coaches who are registered with Tennis South Africa. The questionnaire which the coaches voluntarily answered, was an abbreviated, revised version of the questionnaire used by Gould et al. (1999a) for their study. \ The results of this study show that coaches: • regard the teaching of psychological interventions to junior tennis players as very important. • perceived the following as the most important psychological dimensions for junior tennis players: motivation, concentration, enjoyment, self-confidence and goal setting. • find the teaching process of psychological interventions to junior tennis players difficult. • encounter practical problems in the teaching of psychological interventions to junior tennis players. Lack of time is mentioned most often. Based on these outcomes, it is concluded that sport psychology has an important role to play in junior tennis. More research is needed to develop techniques and methods to effectively teach psychological interventions to junior tennis players.
Beak, Samantha Louise. "Children's use of haptic information in wielding tennis rackets." Thesis, Manchester Metropolitan University, 2001. http://ethos.bl.uk/OrderDetails.do?uin=uk.bl.ethos.393288.

Abstract:
This programme of work was designed to examine the use of moment of inertia during the perception of haptic information in support of action. There has been limited empirical work examining children's sensitivity to haptic information and how this supports their actions during dynamic touch. Experiment 1 examined children's ability to perceive changes in moment of inertia across different tennis rackets through the process of wielding. The results found the children to be sensitive to moment of inertia information. Experiment 2 examined the effect of development over 12 months upon children's preferred choice of racket for a given task. Over 12 months, based on variability data, the results suggested a trend for children's preference of racket to change under the visual condition. Experiment 3 examined if sensitivity to moment of inertia information becomes more attuned through experience gained through everyday manipUlatory activities and more so through task specific experience. The results suggested that sensitivity to moment of inertia did increase with experience. Experiment 4 examined whether sensitivity to moment of inertia differs with changes to its components, mass and mass distribution. Regardless of experience, the results found that perception of moment of inertia was not effected through any changes in mass or mass distribution. Experiment 5 examined if children were able to judge which racket would afford an optimal performance in a maximum striking task, in advance of executing the task. It also examined individual differences in both perceptual and movement behaviour and how these related to constraints imposed on the individual. The results suggested that children were not able to judge in advance the affordance of a racket for the given task. The results also highlighted a high level of intra-individual variability. In conclusion, the findings of this programme of work highlight the importance for practitioners to consider children individually and to recognise the many different constraints acting upon their systems at any given time. Further research is still required to identify informational constraints and understand how they affect an individual's performance. By identifying these constraints more effective learning and practice environments can be designed to facilitate and enhance skill acquisition.

Munthali, Justice. "Food Accessibility and Nutrition Status of Tenant Women of Reproductive Age and Under-Five Children on Smallholder Tobacco Farms in the Northern Malawi." Diss., University of Pretoria, 2017. http://hdl.handle.net/2263/63282.

Full text
Abstract:
Introduction: Lack of evidence-based information is an impediment to improve the food security and nutrition status of vulnerable tobacco tenant women and their children on smallholder farms in Malawi. Aim: To assess and describe the food accessibility and nutrition status of the tobacco tenant women of reproductive age and their under-five children on smallholder farms, as well as to determine and report correlational relationships amongst demographic and socio-economic factors, food accessibility measurements and nutrition status indicators. Design: Quantitative cross-sectional descriptive correlational study. Setting: Bwengu, Engucwini and Njuyu Extension Planning Areas, Mzimba North district, Malawi. Sample: 110 women of reproductive age sampled through a proportional systematic random sampling technique, and their 139 under-five children. The sample size was calculated using nQuery version 7 software based on 47% prevalence of malnutrition among under-five children in Malawi, estimated at 95% CI to the accuracy of 10%. Methodology: Data were captured through face-to-face interviews during the hunger season. Food accessibility was captured using the Household Food Insecurity Access Scale (HFIAS), Household Hunger Scale (HHS), Months of Adequate Household Food Provisioning (MAHFP) and Individual Dietary Diversity Scale (IDDS). Nutrition status was measured using anthropometry according to standard protocol. WHO Anthro software was used to compute Z-scores (W/A, H/A, W/H and BMI/A) for children, based on WHO standards. Microsoft Excel was used to calculate BMI for women, based on WHO cut-off points. Stata software was used to compute regression analyses to establish correlational relationships between independent and dependent variables. Ethical approval was obtained from the University of Pretoria, Natural and Agriculture Science Committee (Number EC151215- 028), as well as from the Mzuzu Agriculture Development Division in Malawi. Results: Mean age of the women was 27.3 ± 6 years and 28.8 ± 15 months for the children. The experience of food insecurity access was severe for 75% of the households. Nearly onefifth of households were severely hungry, and had adequate food for only about eight months of the year. The women and their children consumed a mean of two food groups in the previous 24 hours. For the women, 21% were malnourished. For the children, 20% were wasted, 31.3% were stunted and 34% were underweight. More male children were malnourished. For food accessibility measurements, the multivariable linear regression analysis was used. The significant factors influencing the severity of the experience of food insecurity access were loan access (P = 0.015) and household size (P = 0.000). For the prevalence of hunger, the significant factors were food security and nutrition training (P = 0.046), marital status (P = 0.045) and household size (P = 0.000). For the annual prevalence of hunger, the significant factors were labour (P = 0.038), income (P = 0.008) and household size (P = 0.001). For the dietary diversity, the significant factors were labour (P = 0.001), food security and nutrition decisions (P = 0.004), mother’s age (P = 0.033) and income (P = 0.000). Using the multivariable IV regression analysis, the significant factors influencing the BMI of the women were their age (P = 0.054), loan access (P = 0.004), HFIAS scores (P = 0.007) and HHS scores (P = 0.001). For the children’s weight-for-age, the significant factors were the mother’s BMI (P = 0.014), child’s sex (P = 0.005), assets (P = 0.014), mother’s age (P = 0.001) and child’s age (P = 0.015). Using the multivariable random-effects GLS regression analysis, the significant factors influencing the children’s height-for-age were the mother’s age (P = 0.004), child’s sex (P = 0.005), assets (P = 0.028) and HFIAS scores (P = 0.006). For the children’s weight-forheight, the significant factors were the mother’s BMI (P = 0.032), MAHFP scores (P = 0.029), child’s age (P = 0.008) and income (P = 0.001). For the children’s BMI-for-age, the significant factors were the mother’s BMI (P = 0.030), mother’s age (P = 0.029), income (P = 0.002) and assets (P = 0.047). Conclusion: The food accessibility and nutrition status of the tobacco tenant women and their children were seriously poor. The significant factors influencing food accessibility and nutrition status were loan access, household size, food security and nutrition training, marital status, labour, income, assets, food security and nutrition decisions, mother’s BMI, mother’s age, child’s age, child’s sex, HFIAS scores, HHS scores and MAHFP scores. The study findings offer clues to policy makers on where to direct interventions to improve food accessibility and nutrition status of the tobacco tenant women and their children in Malawi.

Abstract:
AbstractIn kindergarten, outdoor playtime is usually a break from more structured activities. It is leisure time and an opportunity for children to engage in free play with friends. Previous research indicates that time spent outdoors facilitates playful physical activity and that playing in nature inspires children’s creativity, imaginations and play across age and gender. In short, play and social relations are crucial for young children’s development and cultural formation. This study investigated children’s play activities during outdoor playtime in nature and on kindergarten playgrounds. Its empirical materials consisted of video observations of 12 four-year-old’s activities in nature and on a kindergarten playground and interviews with two kindergarten teachers. One child, Benjamin was the primary focus, and five more were also included. Two examples of one child’s social play in nature and on the playground were analysed to illuminate the different conditions and challenges he encountered. The findings indicate that children’s play in nature tends to be more creative and inclusive than that on kindergarten playgrounds, that kindergarten teachers participate more in children’s play in nature than on playgrounds and that children are sensitive to and try to engage in what they view as a correct form of discourse with their teachers. The author argues for further research on the subject to learn more about children’s social relations, creativity and cultural formation during outdoor playtime in nature.

Abstract:
Disorder within Dialects is a new framework that has helped guide a series of studies on childhood Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) within African American English (AAE) and Southern White American English (SWAE), two dialects spoken in the southern region of the United States. In this chapter, I review the basic tenets of the Disorder with Dialects framework, contrasting it with the traditional Dialect vs. Disorder framework. Then, focusing on children’s use of finite markers within AAE and SWAE and using data from several published studies, I demonstrate how dialect-informed materials and strategic scoring systems can be used to identify children with DLD within these dialects and perhaps within other linguistic varieties spoken in the United States and elsewhere.

AbstractIn this article I will summarize some of the main findings over the past three decades of a research program on emergent mathematical thinking in young children. The program is based on a cultural-historical activity theory perspective (CHAT), and focused mainly on identifying the productive conditions that may promote mathematical thinking in young children (4–8 years old). After clarifying briefly the methodological starting points of the research program, and explaining some theory-based tenets, I will list a number of productive conditions (play format, schematizing, narrative competence and intertextuality) that empirically turned out to be positive in promoting meaningful mathematical thinking in young children, especially elaborating the importance of communicative tools that help children to exchange their meanings regarding mathematical objects (like number, numerosity, quantity, relations and changes).

Abstract:
AbstractUsing interviews with various families and mediators/lawyers involved in three types of out-of-court procedures in England and Wales, this contribution assesses, first, to what extent the interests of the child are in focus in such procedures. And second, whether in certain types of cases, the interests of the child are better protected by means of in-court procedures. The authors find that, while out-of-court procedures are generally child-focused, it is less common that they are child-inclusive or that the clear voice of the child is represented in the adult decision-making. Further, in the out-of-court context, ‘child welfare’ tends to be understood in terms of ongoing contact with both parents and co-parenting. Consequently, the protection of children from an abusive parent can be under-emphasized. In some instances, concerns about children tend to be overshadowed by the financial dispute. Additionally, given there is growing evidence that many children would like to be consulted in out-of-court family dispute resolution, and that (where it is appropriate and safe) this can be a positive influence on their wellbeing. Consideration is given to how current practice in family dispute resolution fits with the rights expressed in Article 12 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. In conclusion, the authors highlight a need for distinguishing between different types of conflicts and adjusting procedures accordingly. For example, in high-conflict cases and/or those involving issues of child safety, the interests of the child might be better protected in court, rather than through out-of-court dispute resolution. Whereas in other situations, barriers to hearing the child’s voice out-of-court must be overcome.

AbstractThe generally accepted standard conception of the family today tends to look like this: a man and a woman (greater acceptance if same race, same religion, and similar age), hopefully with a sound mind and a strong body, are getting married (mainly in a publicly staged spectacle called wedding). How will the family change in the future? What about multigenerational families or families without children? How will the concept of family change? Are marriages with robots and the artificial upbringing of children the future? Will traditional values still exist, and how will the perception of “family” change in the foreseeable future? And what about marriages of love and marriages of convenience?

AbstractALL is a malignancy of lymphoid progenitor cells, with a bimodal incidence, peaking in early childhood and in older age. In children, ALL tends to have an excellent prognosis, with more than 85% of patients achieving long-term survival. The outcome of younger adults has improved considerably as well. However, overall survival decreases with age (Dores et al. 2012), partially due to the different genetic background of adult ALL, with a higher proportion of Philadelphia chromosome-positive (Ph+) ALL and Ph-like and KMT2A rearrangements in comparison to childhood ALL (Iacobucci and Mullighan 2017). The introduction of paediatric-inspired regimens has improved outcomes in adults, but these regimens are less tolerated in older patients (Curran and Stock 2015).

AbstractThis chapter discusses the construction of family and family law as central tenets of gender equality projects in law and society. It begins with a review of the evolution of family institution from the traditional nuclear to the models that are not constituted through either heteronormativity or marriage contract. Hence, it draws on LGBTQIA+ family formations including parenthood and intimate partnership. Furthermore, the chapter elaborates on the development of gender equality in family law and marriage contract in various social settings through an intersectional analysis of rights and responsibilities of partners, parents, and children. The chapter also explores domestic violence as a matter of gender equality in family law. It discusses how legal protection and prevention of domestic violence in family law can reduce harmful effects on family members, who are the victims of violence directly or affected by domestic violence as witnesses.

Abstract:
Coronavirus started in 2019 and it’s still a major problem today [1]. This disease led to the start of pandemics around the world, in which some students are still using online learning platforms today, and their guardians leaving them unattended to provide for their families [2]. However, with the lack of supervision children are taking advantage of these times to perform unproductive activities such as gaming. During school days, there are also many breaks provided for students to relax and reset their mentality, which allows a student to be focused during class, but this doesn’t seem to be the case students are spending this time indoors after many hours of staring at a device, instead spending it outdoor can relax their eyes also preventing eye damage. This paper proposes software that tracks a student's productivity based on their tennis racket movement and speed using a particle board, accelerometer, and tracker [3]. With a tracker, guardians would be able to get constant updates on their children's activities. We applied our application to a real-life scenario and conducted a qualitative evaluation of the approach. The results show that students spend less time indoors performing nonproductive activities, students spend more time outside playing their sport of desire, and parents are less stressed about their children's educational and physical health.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT In many methods in different sports, mobile games are used to improve the motor abilities of adolescents. We have developed and tested a methodology based on mobile games in tennis training. The study aims to optimize the physical preparation of the 10 years old boys who are training tennis in school in an extracurricular form of education through the tools of the moving games. The оbject of study are 40 boys, 10 years old (3rd grade) divided into two groups of 20 children - experimental and control. The subject of the study are the signs of physical development and motor skills. To establish the effectiveness of the applied methodology, testing was carried out twice with all participants in the study (at the beginning and the end of the experimental period) on six tests, two physical development indicators, and BMI. The results were subjected to mathematical and statistical processing by Variation analysis, Comparative t-criterion of Student, BMI. The analysis of the results shows that, at the end of the experiment, the experimental group has higher achievements in all studied indicators. Unlike the first test, however, in which there were insignificant differences between the two groups in the level of development of the studied traits, in the second test - the ratio changed in favor of the experimental group. It can be argued with a high guarantee probability that the specific work with the means of mobile games applied by us has led to a significant increase in the level of development of the boys in the experimental group speed endurance, the explosive force of the lower limbs, both in vertical and horizontal efforts. As the main conclusion of the study, we could conclude that the experiment, through the means of mobile games in general, has positively influenced the development of basic motor skills, physical ability, and health status of students.

Abstract:
Tennis is a sport in which body type is not the only condition for success, but in any case, it is a very important factor that will determine an individual's playing style. The aim of this work was to determine the differences in the anthropometric characteristics of the winners of the tournament. The sample of respondents consisted of seniors, winners of Grand Slams in the last 40 years. All data such as tournament winners, players' height, and weight are taken from the official ATP website. For the statistical processing of the data, the basic descriptive parameters of height, weight and BMI for all 4 Grand Slam tournaments were taken into account. To determine the differences in the anthropometric characteristics of the tournament winners, a T-test was used for two independent groups. The results show that there is a statistically significant difference between the two time periods (1980-2000) and the time period (2001-2020). Also, from the results, it can be concluded that BMI gradually increased from year to year. Innovations in terms of equipment, changes, and improvements along the field led to a change in technique and tactics. In the future, children should be selected based on their anthropometric characteristics.

Abstract:
We investigate in this work the relationship between the perceived demands of the teaching profession and the general sense of teachers’ self-efficacy in on-site and online teaching contexts. We present the results of a study with N= 127 Romanian teachers, with ages ranged from 19 to 55, with a mean age of 39,26 years, SD = 9,20 (123 females, 4 males; 73 from urban area, 54 from rural area). Our results show that the self-efficacy of teachers is lower in online professional activities, compared to the self-efficacy of teachers perceived in the on-site professional activities. In the case of the online teaching environment the teachers with high scores on teachers’ self-efficacy tends to consider as being more challenging when dealing with different levels of children's development, working with children with learning disabilities, who have a small number of attendances, who do not follow the received instructions and with children who need more time and energy compared to other children. We discuss implications of our results for policies and strategies to enhance the quality of teaching practices.

Abstract:
The theory of attachment brought to front stage the need of the child to form stableconnections with persons capable to offer protection, love, acceptance. Sometimes, during this process, the child has give up parts of his/her authentic self in a lenghtyprocess of adapting to the harsh reality he/she lives in. The pattern of attachment, formed in early childhood, relative to the representative persons in his/her life, tends tobe maintained also during the lifetime and to influence the manner of interacting withothers. In the case studies I have indetified personality traits, learning problems, maladaptative behaviours, attitudes towards parents, peers and the environment and Ihave correlated them with the information acquired in anamnesis and with thepersonality profile of the mother in order to identify the manner in which the childrensself was formed. Thusly, we have analysed hypothesis regarding the manner in whichearly development influences could have led to the establishment of certain emotionaldisorders and maladaptive behaviours which visibily affect the functionality of the childin several areas of development.

Abstract:
The evaluation of indicators that characterize the features of the formation of population’s health over a long period of time such as general and primary morbidity, disability and mortality in children, and the population of older working age. The obtained data indicate that in the Republic of Belarus and in the Gomel region the incidence of the given group of diseases tends to increase. Gomel region is one of the three regions for this indicator. Diseases of the musculoskeletal system and connective tissue occupy one of the leading positions among the causes of disability among the population in the Republic and in the Gomel region. This indicator tends to grow. The mortality rate due to diseases of the musculoskeletal system and connective tissue in the Republic of Belarus and in the Gomel region is quite small. There is no mortality among children.

Mats, Mats, and Karin Zetterqvist Nelson. Listening to children: theories and ethics of listening. Linköping University Electronic Press, June 2024. http://dx.doi.org/10.3384/report-204274.

Abstract:
In many societal contexts, the importance of listening to children is underscored, not seldom with reference to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and especially Article 12 on the right to be heard. But what does it mean to listen to children? A plethora of books on listening to children aimed at professionals and others who meet children in their daily lives are published on a regular basis. However, we miss a critical discussion of listening as such, and more specifically about (good) listening to children, framed within a larger theoretical context. The aim of this article is to discuss listening in relation to monological and dialogical perspectives on communication, as well as in relation to different notions of children as similar to or different from adults. Also discussed is how different theoretical perspectives on listening and listening to children tends to lead to different ethical conclusions regarded what constitutes good listening and listening to children. This is an English translation of an article that was originally published in Swedish in 2022 as “Att lyssna på barn. Om lyssnandets teori och etik” in the Nordic journal Barn (volume 40, issue 3). Abstract:
Health and health care are critical issues for many children and adults on the autism spectrum. They may experience more frequent use of services and medications. They may need more types of routine and specialty healthcare. And their overall health and mental health care tends to be more complex than people with other types of disabilities and special health care needs. This report provides indicators of health and health care for autistic persons across the lifespan. Topics covered include overall health, health services, medication, insurance, and accessing services. We need to understand health and healthcare needs across the life course to support recommendations on how to improve health and health care at critical points across a person's life. The purpose of this report is to catalogue indicators to aid in decision making to this end.

McKenzie, David, and Hillel Rapoport. Migration and Education Inequality in Rural Mexico. Inter-American Development Bank, November 2006. http://dx.doi.org/10.18235/0011113.

Full text
Abstract:
This paper examines the impact of migration on education inequality in rural Mexico. Using data from the 1997 National Survey of Demographic Dynamics (ENADID), we first examine the impact of migration on educational attainment for males and females aged 12-15 and 16-18. We then build on the results on attainments to compute education inequality indicators for a large sample of communities throughout Mexico. After instrumenting, we find no significant impact of migration on educational attainment of 12 to 15 year olds. In contrast we find evidence of a strong disincentive effect of migration on schooling levels of 16 to 18 year olds, resulting in less education. This effect is strongest for males and for children of highly educated mothers. As a result of this, migration tends to lower educational inequality, in particular for females, but changes in inequality are driven mainly by reductions in schooling at the top of the education distribution rather than by increases in schooling from relaxing liquidity constraints at the bottom.

Bénin: Target men to increase use of health services. Population Council, 2001. http://dx.doi.org/10.31899/rh2001.1001.

Full text
Abstract:
After initiating health sector reforms in 1994, the Bénin government established the Integrated Family Health Project, known as PROSAF. Funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development, PROSAF operates in the Borgou region, which is mostly rural and has the country’s most severe health problems. PROSAF managers wanted to understand why local people were not using health services, despite their poor health. As noted in this brief, managers requested that the African Population and Health Research Centre (APHRC) study the way households and communities make decisions on health care. In a study conducted in 2000 with support from the Population Council, APHRC identified sociocultural factors that might impede access to health care in the region and recommended approaches to overcome these obstacles. Study findings included that adult men make unilateral decisions in household resource allocation and health care; people prefer alternative health care, mainly traditional healers or self-medication, because of their low cost; use of modern medicine tends to occur as a last resort, and only when symptoms are advanced; communication about FP is limited, both between husbands and wives and between parents and children.
