Abstract:
ON zoogeographic maps, the Solomon Islands are shown as the north-eastern limit of Australidelphian marsupial distribution in Australasia. This distinction is due to the presence of a single New Guinean marsupial, the northern common cuscus Phalanger orientalis, which was probably introduced via the Bismarck Archipelago by prehistoric human agency (Flannery 1995; Spriggs 1997; Heinsohn 1998; Wickler 2001). P. orientalis is found across most of the principal Solomon Islands, with the exception of the remote far-eastern oceanic islands of Santa Cruz (Temotu) Province. In the scientific literature, the exact eastern limit of distribution for P. orientalis is generally given as San Cristobal (Makira) Island in Makira Province (Laurie and Hill 1954; Flannery 1995), the eastern most peninsula of which extends to 162 23' E. The next landmass to the east is the small 5 km diameter and 143 m high limestone atoll of Santa Ana (Owa Rafa) which lies across a 7.5 km open water crossing.

Abstract:
This article presents data from a 2017 survey of vendors selling fresh produce at the Honiara Central Market (HCM) over a twelve week period from July-September. It aims to understand the economic contribution of vendors to their communities, and in particular of producer-vendors. Detailed geospatial mapping of the origin of produce sold at HCM illustrates the scope of production for market. Data shows that 70 percent of all produce comes from villages on Guadalcanal to the east of Honiara, with intensive production for market also to the West of Honiara, from Central Province (Savo, Nggelas), and important market trade from parts of Malaita, and New Georgia. There is very limited engagement with HCM from Choiseul and Temotu, and none from Makira and Renbel. The data also indicates that the majority of producer-vendors at the HCM are women, and that the average sale of fresh produce on Fridays generates amounts of income higher than the minimum daily wage. We examine these findings using a lens of food security with a focus on asset creation. We show the economic benefit of market selling for women tends to involve lower value crops of leafy greens, nuts, fruits and root vegetables, while men are more dominant in the lucrative cash crops such as melon.

Abstract:
The objective of the research study was to analyse the knowledge the farmers in the Opole province in Poland have on genetically modified crops and to evaluate their approaches to this issue. The vast majority of the farmers surveyed know the “genetically modified organism” term (92%) and the meaning of the ‘GMO’ acronym, although the knowledge of the younger farmers with secondary and tertiary education was at a higher level. Most often, the farmers acquire their knowledge from media and, less often, from trade journals. Even so, the majority of the surveyed (more than 70%) find their knowledge to be insufficient. The majority of the farmers polled (73,9% men i 57,1% women) are not open to such types of crops and food. Of the farmers surveyed, only a small percentage (9,2% men) admits to growing GM crops and a higher percentage (28,7% men and 20,8% women) admits to feed animals with GM fodders. Almost 1/3 of the survey participants think that the cultivation of GM crops does not confer any benefits while the rest of the surveyed point out to such advantages as, inter alia, higher yields and reducing the amounts of plant health products used. The same percentage of the polled thinks that GM crops do not pose any risk to the environment. The majority of the farmers surveyed (more than 80%) are open to training and courses in order to expand their knowledge of genetic engineering.

Abstract:
Air pollution as dust particles (TSP) is produced by nature or human activities. Some human activities that produce TSP include transportation and industrial activities. High TSP concentrations can cause disturbances ranging from visual disturbances to health problems. Temon District, Kulon Progo Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region Province is the location of Yogyakarta International Airport, so it is necessary to know the current ambient air quality, especially TSP and its source. This article shows the level of TSP concentration in the Temon District area and its sources. The analysis is done by linking the concentration of the TSP to the traffic volume and road condition. In Temon District, the level of TSP concentration ranges from 22 - 70.2 µg/m³. Traffic volume ranges from 1,720 - 2,099 passenger car unit (pcu)/hour in intersection and 19.51 -565.79 pcu/hour in the roads section. Road conditions start from very bad to good. In general, TSP parameters are still in good condition and do not cause health problems. Primary pollutant sources come from traffic and secondary pollutant sources come from road conditions

Abstract:
The Lutetium-Hafnium isotopic system represents one of the most innovative and powerful tools for geochronology and isotopic studies. Combined U-Pb and Lu-Hf in situ analyses on zircon by LA-MC-ICP-MS permit to characterize isotopically the host magma from which it crystallized furnishing significant information for sediment provenance and crustal evolution studies. In this paper e describe the Lu-Hf systematic by LA-MC-ICP-MS developed in the laboratory of Geochronology of the University of Brasilia and report the results obtained by repeated analyses of 176Hf/177Hf isotopic ratio of three zircon standards: GJ-1 = 0.282022 ± 11 (n=56), Temora 2 = 0.282693 ± 14 (n=25) and UQZ = 0.282127 ± 33 (n=11). The 176Hf/177Hf ratio (0.282352 ± 22, n=14) of gem quality zircon used as in-house standard have been also characterized. As a geological application, we analyzed two complex zircons selected from a migmatitic rocks from the Borborema Province, NE Brazil. On the basis of U-Pb and Lu-Hf data, two main crystallization events have been identified in both studied zircons. An older event at ca. 2.05 Ga recognized in the inherited cores represents a well-characterized paleoproterozoic magmatic event that affected the whole Borborema Province. A second crystallization event at ~ 575 Ma, recognized at the rims, represents a Neoproterozoic (Brazilian) high grade metamorphic-magmatic event.

Abstract:
Pacitan area is known as Tertiary volcanic arc in Java, as the result of subduction zone of the Indian-Australian Plate beneath the Eurasian Plate since Oligocene. It was superimposed volcanism which formed a wide area of hydrothermal alteration zone, resulting potential ore metals mineralization, such at Temon and its vicinities, Pacitan Regency, East Java Province, Indonesia. The aim of study was to analyze hydrothermal alteration and ore metal mineralization zones. Method was surface mapping, thin section analyses, mineragraphic analyses and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) analyses. Field study observed denuded and deformed volcanic crater geomorphology. There are ore placer deposits within the sand dunes of Grindulu River, which it consists of andesitic lava and breccia of Early Oligocene Mandalika Formation; Early Miocene lithic and vitric tuffs; and dacitic intrusion. The dikes of dacite as the last of volcanism was the host rock controlling the zonation of alteration and mineralization stages. Oblique normal faults and shear faults were cross over dilating formed fractures, which were as bodies to depositing the ore metals. There are (zone 1st) the argillic clay consists of quartz+alunite+dickite+kaolinite±illite with vuggy structures, (zone 2nd) the argillic clay consists of quartz+montmorillonite±illite zone with quartz vents, brecciated and sulfide massive, and (zone 3rd) as the chloritized zone with low grade and supergene on the edge of hydrothermal alteration. It was fluid overprinted that very acid to the core of zone 1st (pH2-4) into more netral pH 4-6 (zone 2nd) and (pH5-6) in the edge zone 3rd. The potentials ore metal mineralization are Fe and Cu by pyrite, chalcopyrite, hematite, and covellite. Other potential ore metal mineralization was also from enargite by the supergene alteration.

Abstract:
Preparation for the construction and development of NYIA airport in Temon sub district, Kulon Progo district, D.I. Yogyakarta province has caused displacement of people for their land, including farmers. Farmers affected are located in five villages that include Jankaran, Palihan, Sindutan, Glagah and Kebon Rejo. The objective of this resrarch is to analyze the impact of land conversion on farmer household incomes and food security status. The research used both primary and secondary data. Primary data was collected using structured questionnaire. Analysis of data was based on descriptive statistics and test of differences between paired samples. Results showed that land conversion has had a negative and significant influence on incomes of affected farmer households. The decline in household income of farmers in 5 villages in Temon sub district among other factors, is attributable to the reduction in farming land. Secondly, consequently, loss of farmer household income aggravated the vulnerability of the affected households to food insecurity. The number of farmer households that experienced food insecurity increased from 87 percent of all farmer households prior to land conversion to 90 percent after land conversion. Conclusions formed the basis for several policy recommendations to mitigate and if possible overcome the problem.

Abstract:
A FEW OBSERVATIONS ON LITHUANIAN LAW AT THE TURN OF THE 18TH-19TH CENTURY FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF THE SZAWLE (ŠIAULIAI) LEDGERSSummaryResearch on the legal, and especially forensic, practice in Lithuania after the dismemberment of Poland-Lithuania (1795) – an area of study embarked on only recently – should make up an important aspect of enquiry on the state of the law of Lithuania following the Partitions. In particular the aim should be to show the relationship between the former Lithuanian law and the new provisions introduced by the Partitioning Power. The specific nature of this relationship is shown by the example of the land court register (księgi ziemskie) for Szawle (Lith. Šiauliai) for 1794-1803. These records clearly show evidence of the efforts of the Russian Generals Sergei F. Golitsyn and Alexander P. Tormasov to restore the Lithuanian courts after the intermission caused by the Kościuszko Insurrection of 1794. The Russians introduced new instruments to jurisprudence including the duty to submit reports on the activities of the courts to the Russian military authorities, the use of the Julian calendar, and the issue of decisions and judgements on behalf of the Empress Catherine II. Details of these new requirements were defined in the ordinances issued by Nikolai V. Repnin, and frequently invoked. A Russian provinces act and new regulations on legal representation were also resorted to in court practice. In addition to these “foreign” elements, Šiauliai court practice shows that the old law and the 16th-century Lithuanian Statute and statutory acts passed by the Parliament of pre-partitional Poland-Lithuania still continued to be used.

Abstract:
On flora semantics in house names found in Vidzeme: materials contained in the 1826 counting of souls in Vidzeme provinceThe information of the counting of souls containing both house names and names of individuals is an essential aspect of historical onomastics. The first counting of souls in Vidzeme took place in 1782 and coincided with the 4th analogous census of the provinces of Russia. Subsequently these took place at irregular intervals, the 5th in 1795, the 6th in 1811, the 7th in 1816, the 8th in 1834, the 9th in 1850, and the final, 10th in 1858.The number of house names entered in the 1826 counting of souls in Vidzeme province (guberna) is 14,500, including those of peasant homes that had been separated from another property whilst retaining the same name. House names based on flora (incl. names of mushrooms) semantics are listed for 574 dwellings, which represent just about 4% of all house names listed for Vidzeme, providing that repeated house names are counted separately. In case of several manors data is missing (lost) for the 1826 census, information for these manors is taken from previous and subsequent censuses. In many instances (279 cases registered) house names were based on the names of deciduous trees found in their immediate vicinity: such names comprise 48.6% of all house names of flora semantic origin, i. e., ozols ‘oak-tree’, bērzs ‘birch-tree’, kārkls ‘osier’, liepa ‘linden tree’, kļava ‘maple tree’, apses ‘aspen’, osis ‘ash tree’, alksnis ‘alder’, lazda ‘hazel-tree’, vītols ‘willow’, ieva ‘bird cherry’.Names based on names of conifers are found (35 instances were recorded, or 6.1% of all house names based on flora semantics), i. e., egle ‘spruce tree’, paeglis, kadiķis ‘juniper’, priede ‘pine-tree’.House names based on names of fruit trees and bushes are only occasionally found in Vidzeme, with 8 recorded instances, or 1.4% of all house names based on flora semantics, i. e., ābele ‘apple tree’, and upene ‘black-currant’.The next sub-group of house names based on flora semantics comprises those based on names of cereals. This is one of the most widely occurring flora semantics sub-groups and contains 58 entries, or 10,1% of all house names based on flora semantics, i. e., auzas ‘oats’, rudzi ‘rye’, mieži ‘barley’, kvieši ‘wheat’, griķi ‘buckwheat’.House names have been found based on terms of 6 legumes, which represents 1% of all house names based on flora semantics, i. e., zirnis ‘pea’, pupa, ‘bean’.Names of common vegetables are the basis for a considerable number of house names. i. e. 53 instances are recorded, representing 9.2% of all house names derived from flora semantics, i. e., rutks, ruduks ‘radish’, kāposts ‘cabbage’, rācenis ‘turnip’, sīpols ‘onion’, ķiploks ‘garlic’, kālis ‘swede’, gurķis ‘cucumber’.House names also derive from terms of widely-cultivated plants such as kaņepes ‘hemp’, apiņi ‘hops’ and lini ‘flax’. These have been the basis for 40 house names, which represent 7% of all hose names based on flora semantics.House names are also based on the names of cultivated and wild herbal plants, and of garden weeds. 47 such cases have been recorded, corresponding to 8.2% of all house names based on flora semantics, i. e., dadzis ‘thistle’, āboliņš ‘clover’, and amoliņš ‘sweet clover’, dille ‘dill’, grīslis ‘sedge’, smilga ‘bent grass’, usne ‘creeping thistle’, pienene ‘dandelion’, pērkones ‘charlocks’, niedre ‘reed’, skosta ‘horse-tail’, vībotne ‘mugwart’.A total of 32 house names based on three flower terms, roze ‘rose’, magone ‘poppy’ and astere ‘aster’ have been recorded; this represents 5.6% of all house names based on flora semantics. The majority (26) of these house names are based on terms of roses.A number of house names in Vidzeme appear to be based on names of mushrooms. 6 such names have been recorded, which represent 1% of all house names based on flora semantics, i. e., bekas ‘boletus’, krimilde, and rudmiese ‘Loctarius’.House names listed in the 1826 counting of souls are based on a wide range of flora semantics, with a clear preference for lexemes associated with names of trees. It is possible that this reflects landscape elements close to these homes, as well as the place that these features have in the relationship of home owners with nature, and their work. In order to draw any deeper conclusions about the presence of flora semantics in house names it would be necessary to examine all relevant historical records up to the present time. O semantyce roślinnej nazw domostw w Widzeme: materiały zawarte w spisie dusz z roku 1826 w krainie WidzemeInformacje o liczeniu dusz, obejmujące zarówno nazwy domostw, jak i nazwiska osób stanowią istotny aspekt onomastyki historycznej.

Abstract:
W latach 1963-1976 Dębski aktywnie współtworzył szkolnictwo muzyczne w Lublinie, jednocześnie dokumentował i badał lubelski folklor muzyczny. Do cennych informatorów, zwłaszcza gdy chodzi o tradycję muzyki wojskowej, należeli Bolesław Strawa i Stanisław Zdybała. Ten ostatni pomięta wiele tytułów przedwojennych pieśni, które żyły w powojennym śpiewie wojskowym (<em>Było późno z wieczora</em>, <em>Do polskiego wojska</em>,<em> </em><em>Oj, bieda, bieda</em>,<em> Karpaccy górale</em>,<em> Tam we pękach bzu altana</em>).</p><p><strong>Echoes of the Interwar Period in Music Folklore of Postwar Lublin Province. On the Basis of Włodzimierz Dębski’s Notes</strong></p>SUMMARY<p>The article is an attempt to present the infl uences of the song tradition of the interwar period on the repertoire documented after World War 2 on the Lublin province territory. The unpublished handwritten notes of Włodzimierz Dębski (1922- 1998), a composer, theoretician of music, ethnomusicologist, animateur of music education, were the inspiration for undertaking this subject. In 1963-1976 Dębski actively co-created the music education in Lublin; simultaneously he documented and studied Lublin’s musical folklore. The majority of performers included in Dębski’s studies were born between 1910 and 1925. Therefore, they were the representatives of the generation whose school age fell on the interwar period. The construction of this paper is based on the comparison of musical culture in interwar Lublin and in the Lublin region with the repertoire of the 1970s and 1980s. The song material from the Lublin region phonically recorded and in written form (texts) in the interwar period consists of the singing of several performers. In her repertoire, Teresa Sołtys from Zemborzyce near Lublin had scouts’, patriotic, military/war, and ritual songs, inter alia, Cicho w stepie, Do polskiego wojska chłopców zaciągają, Gdy kogut zapiał w kurniku, Gdybym był hulaką, Hej, tam w karczmie,za stołem, Na nowej górze jada żołnierze, Pod Krakowem czarna rola, Przyszedł nam rozkaz stanąć do boju, Szabla dzwoni o ostrogę, W suterynie daleko za miastem, Wesoła marynarska pragnie powitać nas wiara, Zmarł biedaczysko w szpitalu wojskowym. Another source of the postwar repertoire that includes songs from the pre-war period are the recordings of Józef Struski, which comprised Christmas carols (Za kolędę dziękujemy, Nie bój się królu żadnej), wedding songs (Już ci teraz, Kasiuleńko, welon zdejmiemy, Uklęknijże córko), drinking songs (Chociaż są na świecie różne alkohole, Przyjacielu mój, rób bimber swój), military/war songs (Chcąc podwyższyć kadrę armii Beselera, Zawodzą dzwony w kościele), courtship/love songs (Szedłem sobie drożyneczką, Zaszło słonko, zaszło za góry) and others. Bolesław Strawa and Stanisław Zdybała were precious informants, especially as far as military music was concerned. The latter remembers many titles of the pre-war songs which were present in post-war military singing (Było późno z wieczora, Do polskiego wojska, Oj, bieda, bieda, Karpaccy górale, Tam we pękach bzu altana).</p>

Abstract:
Subjects of the empress. Wider context of regional history education on East Prussia and identity processes in contemporary Kaliningrad oblastPolitical, economic and social changes brought about by the dissolution of the Soviet Union have had a significant impact on Kaliningrad Oblast, the empire’s westernmost territory of geostrategic importance. Formerly belonging to the German province of East Prussia, the region was meant to become Sovietised completely. The end of the Cold War led to a complete bankruptcy of such policies. At the turn of the 80s and 90s the emergence of a grass-roots interest in the officially forbidden parts of the Oblast’s history made the question of the relation between its pre-war and post-war past up-to-date. Its topicality was strengthened after the 2005-2006 commemorations of founding the city of Königsberg and Kaliningrad Oblast, in which both central and regional authorities were heavily involved. This paper aims at identifying how elements of the history of East Prussia have been selected, interpreted and incorporated into the regional history education course books in contemporary Kaliningrad Oblast. It argues that the growing criticism of the course books’ contents has been related to Russia’s domestic situation since the 2012 presidential election and the tensions with the West after 2014. Both events have hastened the process of forming and cementing the so-called new Russian conservatism which has had a growing influence on the Baltic semiexclave. Poddani cesarzowej. Szeroki kontekst regionalnej edukacji historycznej na temat Prus Wschodnich a procesy tożsamościowe we współczesnym obwodzie kaliningradzkimZmiany polityczne, gospodarcze i społeczne spowodowane rozpadem Związku Sowieckiego wywarły głęboki wpływ na obwód kaliningradzki, najdalej wysunięty na zachód obszar imperium o dużym znaczeniu geostrategicznym. Obwód, wcześniej wchodzący w skład niemieckich Prus Wschodnich, miał zostać całkowicie zsowietyzowany. Koniec zimnej wojny doprowadził do bankructwa takiej polityki.
