Abstract:

Abstract:
The paper presents the restoration activities carried out at Tell Mardikh-Ebla (Syria) by the Italian Archaeological Expedition to Syria of the Sapienza University of Rome. In particular, the study focuses on the operations to preserve the mudbrick structures that have specifically suffered from erosion by rain wind which has caused the collapse of sections of walls. The programme of restoration at Ebla sought to clarify and outline a plan of excavated structures with swift, non-invasive, and reversible interventions and reconstructions. The protection of mudbrick buildings is indeed a challenge for archaeologists working in the Near East: mudbricks are extremely fragile both during the excavation and even more so after they have been excavated. Starting from the results at Ebla, the issue of preserving mudbrick structures is far from being completely solved; the lack of any archaeological research at Ebla, because of the political crisis in Syria, heavily affected the site and the restored buildings that have been seriously damaged by illicit digging and the occupation of the archaeological areas. New techniques and solutions are needed to improve the quality of maintenance and the protection of such a fragile heritage.

Abstract:
Many MBA buildings have been studied from different points of views and approaches
however, their spatial patterns were scarcely investigated. This thesis aims to assess the usefulness of Depth Analysis, a sub-method of Space Syntax, in the understanding of spatial patterns of MBA palaces. The palaces of key MBA sites, Acemhö

k, Tell Mardikh and Kü
ltepe, were selected for the analysis. In the conclusion it is suggested that Depth Analysis can be a very useful method in understanding the configuration of spaces when there is sufficient available data. An equally successful application of this method lies in the comparative analysis of different buildings.

Abstract:
This PhD research project examined some selected terms among those interpreted as function names and mostly documented in the texts of the 24th century B.C. city archives of Ebla (Tell Mardikh, Syria). The examined terms are: a-am, ib, ú-a, a-ur4, ugula, ur4, maškim e maškim:e-gi4. In order to better define the role of the people qualified by these function names, this research was conducted by gathering the attestations that recorded the analysed terms. Those attestations were collected using the glossaries and the onomastic indices found in the volumes of the series Archivi Reali di Ebla Testi (ARET) and Materiali Epigrafici di Ebla (MEE). In addition to those attestations, recordings quoted in various other eblaitic studies were gathered, reaching an amount of approximately 5000 units. A wide prosopographic analysis of the personal names of the various examined officials, which also included the names of all the people connected to officials themselves, complete the PhD research. The prosopographic analysis was conducted using the on-line projects Ebla Digital Archives (EbDA), by the Università Ca' Foscari of Venice (http://ebda.cnr.it/) and The Prosopography of Ebla, by the Università degli Studi di Firenze (https://www.sagas.unifi.it/vp-336-prosopographyebla.html). The investigated terms analysis allowed to determine which of these terms can be considered as function names, rather than professional names; which activities were the most distinctive for each function term; these functionaries' closeness to the families of the Eblaite king and of the ministers.

Abstract:
This article presents data on the Early Bronze Age (EBA) of southeastern Anatolia. The EBA chronology of southeastern Anatolia is parallel to northern Syrian chronologies. The traditional EBA I-III chronology of Anatolia is based on the Tarsus sequence and the EBA I-IV chronology of northwestern Syria on the Amuq and Tell Mardikh sequences. The distribution of ceramic groups and special vessel types reflects geographical and chronological differences throughout the third millennium BCE. The relative chronologies of geographical zones and individual periods are based mainly on ceramic distributions; absolute dates obtained from radiocarbon analyses are rare.

Abstract:
The conclusion explores the philosophical implications of ancient traditions overlapping with the current Mardi Gras Indian cultural system. Through many generations of interaction, different groups of people have learned to create new forms of language and music together. The simple ability to engage in active listening is a doorway to personal and collective transformation. Our ability to balbaha toba (a Choctaw verbal phrase defined as “become one who speaks a foreign language”) and share new forms of music reveal the possibility of experiencing intersubjectivity. Stepping outside of frozen notions of history requires the ability to understand time as both cyclical and linear, as it is sometimes impossible to tell apart what is new and what is old within cultural practices. The Muskogean origins and changing meanings of “Jockomo” in different contexts are an embodiment of the mysterious transformations which can take place whenever people learn to live and sing together.
