Da molti anni i fondali marini dell’Adriatico Settentrionale sono oggetto di interesse scientifico. Si annoverano studi accademici già dal 1792 ma solamente dalla seconda metà degli anni sessanta, grazie agli studi geologici, geofisici e geomorfologici, intrapresi da alcuni ricercatori è stato possibile evidenziare che i fondali marini del Golfo di Venezia unitamente al Golfo di Trieste sono prevalentemente sabbioso-limosi e monotoni dal punto di vista morfologico e delle forme di vita animali e vegetali. Questa monocorde caratteristica del fondo dell’alto Adriatico viene interrotta solamente dalla presenza di elevazioni a substrato roccioso denominate localmente Grebeni, Trezze, Tegnùe e Scagni. I risultati di questo dottorato di ricerca hanno permesso, attraverso l’integrazione di acquisizioni geofisiche, campionamenti diretti in situ, registrazioni video e fotografiche, misure in laboratorio, di ampliare il quadro delle conoscenze acquisite fino ad ora sugli affioramenti rocciosi presenti nel fondale marino dell’alto Adriatico, e di aggiungere nuove indicazioni sull’età dei depositi cementati e sui processi diagenetici che hanno portato alla loro formazione. Dall’attività di studio morfo-batimetrico e sismostratigrafico è stato possibile trarre una prima considerazione sulla distribuzione, numero e forma degli affioramenti segnalati facendo emergere che il loro numero è diseguale nel Golfo di Venezia rispetto a quello di Trieste, con i primi di gran lunga superiori ai secondi, e che questi si presentano in entrambi i golfi eccezionalmente in forma solitaria, normalmente in gruppi di affioramenti di densità variabile da 0,5 sino a 3,25 affioramenti per km2. Dalla tipologia di questi raggruppamenti è stato possibile distinguere quelli a gruppo puntuale, quelli a gruppo allineato ed infine, quelli a gruppo frastagliato. Si è cercato infine di verificare se esistesse un rapporto tra forma di affioramento e processo genetico; è emerso che almeno al momento non si sono riscontrate relazione univoche tra forma e processi diagenetici. Questi avvengono su depositi di ambiente continentale, oppure marino con caratteri molto simili, dove il tipo di deposito sembra essere responsabile solamente di un eventuale effetto accumulo o influenzante il regime di flusso del gas attraverso i sedimenti portando ad una maggiore concentrazione di emanazioni gasose e dunque all’instaurarsi di processi di precipitazione di carbonato di calcio, tipici delle aree di seepage, lungo aree preferenziali. L’indagine sull’immediato sottofondo marino ha messo in evidenza da un lato lo scarso radicamento degli affioramenti nella coltre sedimentaria e dall’altro la presenza di numerose sacche di gas nell’immediate vicinanze degli affioramenti. Lo studio delle sezioni sottili di roccia realizzato con microscopio petrografico ed elettronico in dispersione di energia, ha portato all’individuazione di cementi riconducibili ad una precipitazione avvenuta prevalentemente in ambienti francamente marini subtidali o al limite della fascia più profonda intertidale, mentre in alcuni casi, il cemento è risultato talmente scarso da non permettere alcuna interpretazione. Confrontando i cementi aragonitici a struttura aciculare e/o fibroso raggiata individuati in alcune rocce dell’ alto Adriatico con quelli osservati in lastre carbonatiche campionate all’interno di alcuni pockmarks presenti al largo delle coste norvegesi è evidente una forte similitudine morfologica. In tal senso risulta rafforzata una genesi legata alla fuoriuscita di gas metano originatosi per la combinazione di processi di ossidazione anaerobica e solforiduzione batterica della sostanza organica presente nei sedimenti sottostanti. Dalle analisi isotopiche è emersa la conferma di quanto dedotto dalla semplice forma dei cementi. E’ risultato che il rapporto isotopico del carbonio dei campioni bulk analizzati (frazione detritica + bioclastica) si colloca in un intervallo compreso tra -26,30 / -10,28 ‰ , mentre sono risultati valori nettamente più negativi per quanto riguarda i soli campioni di cemento accuratamente prelevato al microscopio (intervallo compreso tra -49,8 / -38,0 ‰). Infine sono state condotte analisi 14C su due campioni di cemento aragonitico e su tre bioclasti inglobati sulla roccia cementata. E’ risultato che la probabile età delle torbe da cui è iniziato il processo di metanogenesi è compatibile con l’età dei cementi analizzati, che risulta variabile da 15.940 a 21.700 anni B.P., come d’altra parte supposto in altri lavori, mentre la cementazione è avvenuta in lassi di tempo inferiori da 8.220 a 4.990 anni B. P. e si è realizzata in tempi probabilmente recenti e tutt’oggi in atto. A conclusione di questo dottorato è possibile evidenziare che è stata raggiunta una esaustiva conoscenza degli affioramenti rocciosi presenti nel fondale marino dell’alto Adriatico, definendo dettagliatamente la loro diffusione, e per alcuni la loro genesi ed età. E’ stata accertata la formazione metanogenica di alcuni di questi litosomi e la loro formazione in ambiente marino. Per altri affioramenti questa definizione non è stata possibile a causa della scarsità di materiale reperibile per analisi ottiche ed isotopiche. E’ stata accertata per questi litosomi l’età olocenica della loro cementazione; rimane comunque, da accertare se questo tipo di genesi sia la sola responsabile delle migliaia di rocce sottomarine individuate, o se questa sia solamente quella preponderante su altre tipologie, attualmente non confermate. Per ultimo ma non meno importante, va sottolineato che anche in relazione a questo dottorato di ricerca si assiste oggi ad una maggior attenzione della classe politica locale e nazionale al problema della gestione e della difesa di questi particolari geo-biositi che oltretutto possono essere utilizzati e valorizzati come aree di ripopolamento bentonico e nectonico e che recentemente sono stati censiti come probabili aree SIC.

Esaias Tegnér (1782-1846) var en stor kulturpersonlighet i 1800-talets Sverige. I dikten ”Det Eviga” proklameras det att våldet inte förmår skapa något evigt, utan det som våldet skapar blir ”vanskligt och kort”. Den följande undersökningen tar avstamp ur detta, och vill sätta våldet hos Tegnér under närmare betraktelse. Detta gör den via att utgå från Helge Jordheims ”nya filologi”, som sätter språkets relation till historien i fokus, med specifik inriktning på Reinhart Kosellecks begreppshistoria – en teoretiker som Jordheim presenterar. Med denna teoretiska bakgrund antar undersökningen följande frågeställningar: Vad är det som Tegnér avser med våld? Hur behandlar han begreppet? Vad har begreppet för dimensioner – är det en nyanserad eller en platt förståelse? Sker det någon form av utveckling av begreppet med tiden? I sådana fall hur och vad är det som förändras? Undersökningen sätter två perioder av Tegnérs diktproduktion i huvudfokus: den tidiga diktningen 1799–1807, och den mogna periodens diktning 1808–1825. Ur detta kan uppsatsen visa på ett återkommande våldsbegrepp, som knyter an till Tegnérs idealistiska åskådning. I den första perioden är våldet är tillfälligt, negativt och känsloladdat, samtidigt som det finns en vilja att sätta begreppet under reflektion. När Tegnér mognar som diktare utvecklas begreppet. Den reflekterande hållningen byts ut mot en proklamerande. Våldet blir meningslöst, ondskefullt, krigiskt och ensamt.

The actor uses the body in different ways when communicating with the audience. Physical theatre focuses less on the voice and more on the rest of the body during communication with the audience. Contact improvisation serves as training for the actor or dancer so that he or she can learn more about how the body communicates. This form of movement works mostly with the inner rather than the outer feelings. The focus is not on what the movements look like, but on what the improviser experience through the movements. Lanon Prigge and Samantha Pienaar developed various exercises that make the practicing of contact improvisation easier. These exercises serve as basis for their way of jamming. Their focus is not on technique, but on the physical skills en personal growth the improvisers experience through contact improvisation. Contact improvisation is associated with dance and acting, but is also recognised for its therapeutic quality. It has the ability to give insight to the emotional state of the improviser. Therefore it is also practiced in the field of therapy.

The aim is to illustrate the opinion former Torsten Tegnér’s view of sport, culture and society, the nature of the influence he exerted primarily through his own professional magazine, Idrottsbladet, a liberal-conservative sports journalist’s attitude in confrontation with other social attitudes and some questions of principle and debates that were topical during the period within Swedish sport. Five thematic chapters demonstrate how Tegnér reacted to developments within sport that were due to social changes. Above all, the research demonstrates that the values he wished to communicate principally dealt with a healthy soul in a healthy body for the benefit and happiness of both the individual and society. Secondly, he wished to convey the culture of the middle classes. In the background, the concept of freedom was a constant overarching ideology. His reactions to the developments can be seen in the light of his passion for sport as beneficial, his family’s combination of liberalism and respect for traditions and their expectations of him, his understanding of democracy and a touch of post-Romanticism. His passion for freedom led to his political involvement against Nazism and Communism in particular. Tegnér’s means of influencing are viewed from a power perspective. As a well-qualified intellectual, by means of a significant symbolic capital, with Idrottsbladet’s position and as ‘a one-man civic educator’, he was one of those who, in the opinion of the philosopher Antonio Gramsci, were particularly important in a social power game. It is particularly interesting that his circle of readers seems to have overwhelmingly consisted of working-class youngsters.

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The visual landscape is a resource that should be managed sustainably. Sufficient tools for the effective management of visual landscapes are still lacking. Existing visualization software (including 3D Analyst) could be utilized as an aid in visual landscape management, but as such it lacks quantification functionalities. Geographical Information Systems (GIS) could effectively be used in the quantification of visual landscapes. The composition, value and experience of visual landscapes are complex and interrelated. Visual landscapes should be divided into physical and cognitive elements for management purposes. In the quantification of visual landscapes, the physical elements are effectively handled within a GIS. Insufficient research though, hampers the quantification of the visual landscape in terms of cognitive elements. Arc View GIS, including the 3D Analyst Extension, can be extended to quantify visual landscapes. Arc View's integrated development language, Avenue, was used to develop a new technique, namely The Visual Landscape Quantifier (VLQ). The VLQ-technique is an application based on a virtual landscape where a user can select observation and target locations. These locations are used to quantify the visual landscape in a chosen direction. Results are expressed as the percentage (%) of the visible land use in the selected visual landscape. The user can choose whether the results should be displayed as a list or as a graph. Wanted and unwanted elements in the landscape could be identified, aiding the management and planning of landscapes. AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Die visuele landskap is 'n hulpbron wat volhoubaar bestuur moet word, maar ongelukkig bestaan daar mm instrumente om dit effektief te bestuur. Bestaande visualiseringsprogrammatuur (insluitend Arc View 3D Analyst) kan as hulpmiddel dien in die bestuur van visuele landskappe, maar dit ontbreek kwantifiseringsfunksionaliteite. Geografiese Inligtingstelsels (GIS) kan effektief aangewend word in die kwantifisering van visuele landskappe. Die samestelling, waarde en hoe visuele landskappe ervaar word, is kompleks en interverwant. Om visuele landskappe meetbaar te maak, moet dit in fisiese en kognitiewe elemente opgebreek word. GIS hanteer die fisiese elemente van visuele landskappe effektief en gevolglik is die kwantifisering daarvan (in GIS) wel moontlik. Onvoldoende navorsing maak die kwantifisering van visuele landskappe, in terme van kognitiewe elemente, egter moeilik. ArcView GIS, insluitend die 3D Analyst-uitbreiding, kan aangepas word om visuele landskappe te kwantifiseer. 'n Nuwe tegniek, die Visual Landscape Quantifier (VLQ), is met ArcView se geïntegreerde programmeertaal, Avenue, ontwikkel. Die VLQ-tegniek berus op 'n virtuele landskap waarbinne die gebruiker toegelaat word om waarnemers- en teikenliggings te selekteer. As toepassing word die visuele landskap in die gekose rigting in terme van die persentasie (%) van sigbare grondgebruik in die geselekteerde landskap gekwantifiseer. Die gebruiker kan kies of die resultaat as 'n lys of as 'n grafiek voorgestel moet word. Moontlike gewenste of ongewenste elemente in die visuele landskap kan gevolglik geïdentifiseer word en so die bestuurs- en beplanningstaak ondersteun. Abstract:
A descriptive research project was undertaken to determine the neurological, organic and sociological causes and character of the speech impediment of children suffering from Down's syndrome in order to use singing therapy to accelerate speech acquisition and remedy indistinctive speech. The research project included a 'Dialog' computer investigation using the following key-words "singing and musical therapy, Down's syndrome and speech therapy"; a literature study and analysis of samples of beginner Afrikaans speech. According to the hypothesis the objectives of accelerating speech acquisition could be attained by methods directed at the accelerated motoric development of speech sounds and verbal and non-verbal prelinguistic skills, as well as providing a normal rearing setting conducive to communicative speech training in a meaningful and interactive manner. In order to obtain verbal content for a singing programme speech samples of 5 normal Afrikaans toddlers were compared to the those of 5 children with Down's syndrome at the same speech level. Similarities in the character of acquired speech and progression of speech acquisition was ascertained to gain guidelines for the development of a speech programme. The speech samples were used to compile a graded starter content and differences in acquisition were used as indicative of the need for special methods. The results of the research indicate that the speech problem is primarily articulative as caused by an impaired automatic retroactive muscular nervous system weakening reflexes. Impaired reflexes, a manifestation particular to the syndrome, give rise to speech acquisitional implications. The use of sensory stimuli as alternative to motoric reflexes as stimuli to start speech acquisition accompanied by singing therapy was discussed.

Abstract:
With the implementation of Curriculum 2005 (C2005) in South Africa profound changes were also made to technical education. For example, the name technical education made way for the name technology education, the senior secondary phase was replaced with the Further Education and Training band (FET), the syllabuses made way for curricula and all technical subjects were restructured, reduced and re-curriculated to four new subjects. These four new subjects are defined in the New Curriculum Statement (NCS) documents and should be taught according to the Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) principles. This study was undertaken to determine the nature of technology education in the phase, what competencies these teachers should have and what the perceptions of final year students in this phase are, regarding their vocational competencies. The above named objectives were aimed at contributing guidelines with the purpose of improving the training of FET technology teachers. In order to answer the above named questions a literature review, a qualitative and a quantitative study was undertaken. The literature revealed that technology teaching in the FET phase in South Africa has to do with education that focuses on the teaching of technological knowledge, skills, attitudes and values. The technology education in this phase focuses on electrical, mechanical, civil and design fields, with emphasis on problem solutions and the achievement of four well-defined outcomes. The implementation of FET technology in South Africa follows the international trend to place all training with a technical or technology bias under the banner of technology education because teaching only knowledge and skills were no longer sufficient. Because South Africa is still a developing country, there are unique and distinctive problems facing the effective teaching of technology. In order to train teachers effectively for the new curriculum the opinions of practicing school 'principals and experienced teachers in FET technology should be asked to determine what is expected from these novice teachers in practise. A qualitative study revealed that principals and other senior staff members of technical schools (FET) have certain expectations with regard to the competencies and capabilities of their technology teachers. These requirements, for example, includes professional competencies, general, teaching and practical skills and abilities such as subject knowledge and didactical knowledge. In a qualitative study, in which 20 of the final year FET technology students participated, it was found that according to them, they are, to a great extent, equipped for their task as teachers. With few exceptions, the students felt that they were well-equipped in terms of professional, general, teaching and practical skills as they were properly guided in subject and didactic knowledge. As for the training of technical teachers in the FET phase, it was found that the training to a large extent meets the demands of education and the needs of schools, but that there are one or two areas of training that might be improved on and that there are certain misconceptions when students need to judge the value of certain modules. These misconceptions or problem areas mainly focus on the educational programme, practical teaching, education administration and training in practical skills. Specific recommendations are made regarding the training of technical teachers for the FET phase: Recommendations from this study focus on: • Better planned, more effective and relevant workshop practical training. • Greater exposure to, or better planned exposure to, practical education. • Better definition or tuition of educational and didactical modules. • Specific modules exposing students to more imitated administrative tasks. • Promotion of workshop safety. This study focused on the nature of technology education in the FET band in South Africa, the training of teachers who must be able to teach technology in the FET band and the unique abilities they should possess. Recommendations from this study can thus contribute in improving FET technology training in South Africa.

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Deaf learners are unique and require special support and assistance. It is apparent in the literature that deaf learners are more exposed to both physical and sexual abuse. The consequences of the latter can lead to emotional problems, for example, enuresis, anxiety disorders, depression, panic attacks, anger outbursts and attention deficits. One of the biggest challenges in the life of deaf learners must surely be communication. Misunderstandings and subsequent frustrations that ensue, normally occur as a result of communication difficulties between deaf learners and the hearing person. From the literature it appears necessary to stimulate the deaf learner's language development as early as possible, as it impacts on several aspects of his/her maturation into adulthood. Communication difficulties can also influence the emotional development of deaf learners. Therapeutic support for deaf learners are a challenge. The therapist that works with the learners should ideally be able to sign. The young deaf learners do, however, not yet have a signing system and consequently communication is problematic. The learners themselves experience frustrations as he/she is not able to express his/her emotions. The objective of this study was to investigate the possibility of developmental play therapy as a psychotherapeutic technique for the treatment of emotional problems in young deaf learners. To some degree, the technique makes it possible for verbal communication between therapist and learners to be replaced by physical contact. The aim of the activities is to take learners back to the early mother-child relationship and for the therapist to model healthy relationships. The research undertaken here is a qualitative case study. It was approached from an eco-systemic perspective, in other words learners are viewed as the core system which, in turn, is part of several other systems for example the family, school, church, community, etc. The systems are interdependent, which means that change in the one system also results in change within the other systems. In the data production video recordings, unstructured interviews, observations and field notes were used. Data analysis was done using the principles of coding. The results of the study show that developmental play therapy is indeed an effective psychotherapeutic technique in the treatment of emotional problems in young deaf learners. It would appear that the technique requires adaptation for deaf learners needs in order to be effective.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Dowe leerders is uniek en het spesiale ondersteuning nodig. Uit die literatuur wil dit blyk of dowe leerders meer blootgestel word aan beide fisiese en seksuele mishandeling. Die gevolge van laasgenoemde kan lei tot meer emosionele probleme, byvoorbeeld enurese, angsversteurings, depressie, paniekaanvalle, woedeuitbarstings en aandagafleibaarheid. Een van die grootste uitdagings in dowe leerders se lewe is seker kommunikasie. Misverstande en frustrasies wat daaruit vloei, ontstaan gewoonlik as gevolg van kommunikasieprobieme tussen dowe leerders en die horende persoon. Uit die literatuur blyk dit noodsaaklik om dowe leerders se taalontwikkeling so vroeg as moontlik te stimuleer aangesien dit verskeie aspekte in sy/haar volwassewordingsproses beïnvloed. Kommunikasieprobleme het ook 'n invloed op dowe leerders se emosionele ontwikkeling. Terapeutiese ondersteuning van dowe leerders is 'n uitdaging. Die terapeut wat met die leerders werk, moet verkieslik gebaretaal kan praat. Die jong dowe leerders het egter nog nie werklik 'n gebaresisteem nie en gevolglik is kommunikasie 'n probleem. Die leerders self ervaar frustrasies, omdat hy/sy nie die vermoê het om uiting te gee aan sy/haar emosies nie. Die doel met hierdie studie was om die moontlikheid van ontwikkelende speelterapie as psigoterapeutiese tegniek in die hantering van emosionele probleme by jong dowe leerders te ondersoek. Die tegniek maak dit in 'n mate moontlik om die verbale kommunikasie tussen terapeut en leerders te vervang met fisiese kontak. Die doel met die aktiwiteite is om die leerders terug te neem na die vroeê moeder - kindverhouding en gesonde verhoudings deur die terapeut te modelleer. Die navorsing neem die vorm van 'n kwalitatiewe gevallestudie aan. Dit word benader vanuit 'n ekosistemiese perspektief, dit wil sê die leerders word gesien as die kernsisteem wat deel is van verskeie ander sisteme soos byvoorbeeld die familie, skool, kerk en gemeenskap. Die sisteme is interafhanklik wat beteken dat verandering in die een sisteem ook verandering in die ander sisteme tot gevolg het. In die data-produksie is tegnieke naamlik video-opnames, ongestruktureerde onderhoude, observasies en veldnotas gebruik. Data-analise is volgens die beginsels van kodering gedoen. Die resultate van die onderhewige studie wys daarop dat ontwikkelende speelterapie wel In effektiewe psigoterapeutiese tegniek is in die hantering van emosionele probleme by jong dowe leerders. Dit wil voorkom of die tegniek aangepas moet word by dowe leerders se behoeftes om werklik effektief te wees.

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The modern correctional agency is characterised by the extensive use of information and communication technology (ICT) (e.g. computers, close-circuit television cameras, electronic monitoring systems) and human sciences technology (HST) (e.g. psychometric tests, therapy and educational programmes) to monitor, discipline and rehabilitate sentenced offenders inside and outside of institutions and to prevent their recidivism. As a result of this combination of ICT and HST, modern correctional institutions were transformed into socio-technical environments with serious implications for the relationships between those within and outside of the institution. The use of ICT for continuous monitoring of the prison and its population, has resulted in a situation where correctional officials, like prisoners, have become legitimate datasubjects. In addition to the privacy dilemma that resulted from this, continuous monitoring has also negatively affected the relationship between the state and those under surveillance (inmate, parolee, family of parolees and correctional officials). The utilisation of sophisticated technology by organisastions to achieve certain key objectives, does not necessarily bring about the desired results. Pistorius (1996) is of the opinion that only organisations who are true learning organisations will benefit from the use of such technology. This study aims to integrate all of these perspectives in order to determine the impact of technology on a single South African correctional institution.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Die moderne korrektiewe agentskap word gekenmerk deur die omvangryke gebruik van gevorderde inligting- en kommunikasietegnologie (IKT) (bv. rekenaars, geslotebaan televisiekameras en elektroniese moniteringstoestelle) asook geesteswetenskaplike-tegnologie (GWT) (bv. sielkundige toetse, opvoedkundige en terapeutiese programme) om gevonnisde oortreders binne inrigtings en in die gemeenskap te moniteer ten einde hulle te rehabiliteer en hul terugval in misdaad te voorkom. Die kombinasie van GWT en IKT binne die gevangenis het gevolglik daartoe bygedra dat die moderne gevangenis tot In sosio-tegniese omgewing omvorm is met bepaalde gevolge vir die verhouding tussen gevangenes en korrektiewe personeel. Aangesien IKT meesal vir deurlopende monitering van die inrigting en diegene daarbinne gebruik word, word korrektiewe personeel net soos gevangenes, legitieme datasubjekte. Hierdie monitering oor die algemeen, skep 'n privaatheidsdilemma met bepaalde implikasies vir die verhoudinge tussen die gemoniteerde (gevangenes, geparoleerdes en hul families, korrektiewe personeel) en die staat. Die ontplooiing van gesofistikeerde tegnologie ter bereiking van 'n organisasie se sleuteldoelwitte, lewer egter nie outomaties die verwagte resultate nie. Pistorius (1996) argumenteer dat die optimale benutting van tegnologie slegs moontlik is in lerende organisasies. The purpose of this study is to present a comparative analysis of seven literature anthologies for the Upper Secondary School, from 1968-2004, to investigate how much space Esaias Tegnér is getting and how many and which of his works that is presented in these anthologies. The study is set against the hypothesis that Tegnér is getting a reduced space in the anthologies because of his connection to Romantic nationalism, which after World War II has been associated to the themes and ideology of the National Socialism. In view of this I have asked myself if Tegnér is getting a reduced space in the literature anthologies for the Upper Secondary School. My study shows that this is the case. One can also see clear trends in a subjective approach towards the author. In the anthologies where Tegnér have had a strong prominent role, he is retaining his position even in later editions. Over the entire period of 1968-2004 he is getting a less prominent role, although he is generally presented as the greatest poet of his time. I have also examined the discussion of Tegnér during that period to see if you can find any connection between the discussion about Tegnér and the change his work gets in the literature anthologies. The study also examines if the Upper Secondary School curriculum from 1965, 1994 and 2011, leaves any room to study the works of Tegnér in the literature teaching. The first curriculum of the Upper Secondary School, highlighting Tegnér as a writer of particular importance and a part of the required literature reading. Later, less detailed curriculums, does not mention either authors or works. However, these curriculums can be interpreted in a way that Tegnér and his works still belongs to the literature teaching in Upper Secondary Schools.

Syftet med denna uppsats har varit att studera vad som har hänt med diktverket Frithiofs Saga av Esaias Tegnérs, när det har omarbetats till fullängdsoperan Fritiofs Saga av Elfrida Andrée och Selma Lagerlöf, vilken i sin tur komprimerats till ett konsertframträdande på en timme, som gavs i Karlstad av Wermland Opera 2013. Här har det undersökts vilka olika narrativ som har skapats i dessa två bearbetningar, där en huvudfråga har varit att undersöka om representationen av kvinnligt och manligt har förändrats längs med vägen. Undersökningen har skett genom närläsning av Tegnérs diktverk, vilka sedan jämförts med notmaterialet till Fritiofs Saga, samt den direktupptagning som Sveriges radio gjorde av Wermland Operas framförande. Materialet har därefter sammanställts i tabellformat och analyserats enligt Vladimir Propps systematisering för sagor, samt genom Ingrid Åkessons teori om återskapande, omskapande och nyskapande. Undersökningen visar att bearbetningar av ett litterärt material, skapar om inte nya så åtminstone andra typer av berättelser, än den litterära förlagan, samt att representationen av kvinnligt och manligt skiljer sig åt i de tre undersökta materialen.

Studien inneholder kunnskap om noen tegn som kan benyttes for noen matematiske begrep, og hvilken virkning lærerens valg av tegn kan ha for elevers begrepsoppfatning. Oppgavens matematiske fokus er på funksjonslære, men studien kan generaliseres til begrep innen andre områder av matematikken. Studien har to overordnede forskningsspørsmål:Hvilke aspekter ved et matematisk begrep understrekes ved ulike tegnspråklige tegn?Hvordan innvirker valg av tegn på utvikling av elevers begrepsbilde?For å besvare forksningsspørsmålene er det gjort en kvalitativ studie med et fleksibelt design der forskeren fungerer som en deltakende observatør. Datamaterialet for oppgaven er dermed innhentet via klasseromsobservasjon og interaksjon i form av samtaler med informantene. I den observerte klassen foregikk undervisningen på norsk tegnspråk. På den måten kunne forskeren observere språkets virkninger på elevenes matematikkforståelse. Datamaterialet består av videoopptak av fire dobbelttimer samt notater gjort fra observasjon. Dette materialet er analysert ved hjelp av et teoretisk grunnlag samt en teoretisk analyse som binder sammen de ulike teoriene. Studien bidrar til å belyse viktigheten av språkets semiotiske funksjon for utvikling av elevers begrepsbilder. Studiens resultater bekrefter at valg av tegnspråklige tegn i matematikkundervisning er av betydning for elevers begrepsbilder. Resultatene viser at bruk av ulike tegnspråklige tegn i undervisningen fremmer ulik forståelse av de matematiske begrepene. Videre viser resultatene at tegn som benyttes kan påvirke elevens forståelse av ideen bak de matematiske begrepene. Tegnene kan være med på å kategorisere elevenes begrepsforståelse i forskjellige perspektiv, som et prosessperspektiv og et objektperspektiv. Lærerens valg av tegn kan også være med på å formalisere elevenes matematiske språk enten ved å være konsekvent i bruk av tegn eller ved å endre tegn fra det generelle til det mer formelle. Funnene antyder at lærerens bruk av tegn for dets semiotiske funksjon kan ha en større påvirkning av elevenes begrepsoppfattelse enn hva lærere selv er klar over. Lærere må derfor ikke ta for gitt at elever har oppnådd den begrepsoppfattelsen av matematiske begrep som lærerne kanskje forventer.

Lentsoane uses the title of his narrative to highlight the theme. Special attention is paid to this. The suspense is captured in the clash between the traditional attitude to life held by the Bapedi and the modem philosophy of life held by the younger generation. Lentsoane effectively uses the concept of a journey to convey his message to his reader. The visit of the antagonist Kgoteledi to the homeland is especially important in this regard, as her family there is conservative and thus strongly supports her actions. But it is also here that she becomes aware of change. Other important techniques used by Lentsoane are: contrast, symbolism, shifting of focus, mirrorimages, naming, summary and retardation, foreshadowing, but also the reference to related matters. This latter technique has an important emphasising function. Although conflict is emphasised all the time, the climax is reached with the announcement that Mihloti, Dikgoneng's girlfriend, is pregnant. The mother (and therefore also the rest of the family) hereby accept that change has also become part of their lives. Kgoteledi comes to terms with the situation and passes away. AFRIKAANS : In hierdie verhandeling word Lentsoane se novelle, Megokgo ya Lethabo, as 'n liefdesverhaal besktyf waarin die liefdesverhouding tussen die minnaars nie deur die jongman se familie goedgekeur word nie, omdat die jong meisie lid van 'n ander etniese groep is. Die beskrywings model wat vir die ondersoek gevolg word, is 'n aangepaste narratologiese model. Boonop word slegs twee van die struktuurlae ondersoek, nl. die inhouds- en die samestellingslae. In die beskrywing van die inhoudslaag is die vier epiese elemente, karakter, handeling, tyd en plek, noukeurig nagegaan, en t.o.v. die onderwerp wat die outeur gekies het, beskryf. Die onderwerp bepaal die onderlinge verhouding tussen die verskillende karakters, en verdeel die handeling in drie groot aksiekategorieë, t.w. die liefdesverhouding, die besware van die jongman se familie, en die uiteindelike troue. Die tydsbegrip word omskryf in terme van 'n tydstip, tydsverloop en tydsomstandighede. Vir die beskrywing van die samestellingslaag van die werk is daar twee kernbegrippe wat uitgelig word, nl. die temabegrip en die tegniek begrip wat 'n verhoudingsbegrip is en nie eenduidig in verwysing is nie. Die tema wat hier vooropgestel word, is die van verandering, en slaan op die voortdurende verandering in die lewe van mense en kulture. Die karakter van die protagonis, Dikgoneng, word in terme van noodsaaklike en bykomende kenmerke beskryf. Die noodsaaklike kenmerke hou met die verhaalsoort of genre verband, terwyl die outeur met die bykomende kenmerke sy Ieser tot vereenselwiging met die protagonis oorhaal. Die antagonis word slegs t.o.v. die noodsaaklike kenmerke beskryf. Lentsoane gebruik die verhaaltitel as 'n belangrike outeursmiddel om die tema van sy werk na vore te bring. Besondere aandag word hieraan afgestaan. Die spanningselement lê opgevang in die botsing tussen die tradisionele lewensopvattings van die Bapedi en die modeme lewensbeskouing van die jong geslag. Lentsoane maak effektief van die reisbegrip gebruik om sy boodskap aan sy leer tuis te bring. Hier is dit veral die antagonis, Kgoteledi, se besoek aan die tuisland, wat belangrik is, omdat haar familie daar behoudende mense is, en haar dus in haar saak sterk steun. Maar dis dan ook hier waar sy van verandering bewus raak. Belangrike ander tegnieke wat Lentsoane gebruik, is kontrastering, simboliek, fokusverskuiwing, spieëlbeeldstelling, naamgewing, tydsversnelling en vertraging, vooruitskouring, maar veral die verwysing na verwante geleenthede wat 'n sterk beklemtoningsfunksie het. Hoewel konflik deurentyd aan die orde is, word die hoogtepunt met die aankondiging bereik dat Mihloti (Dikgoneng se nooi) swanger is. Die moeder (en daarom ook die res van die familie) aanvaar hiermee dat verandering ook deel van hulle lewens geword het. Kgoteledi berus haar hierin en sterwe.

The purpose of this study is to describe a gestalt technique for therapists who are involved with children who are experiencing loss. A play therepeutic approach is described and the underlying principles integrated and applied. In the first chapter the details of the the research methodology is described. In the second chapter the gestalt approach and how it relates to play therapeutic intervention is discussed. The third chapter is a literature study which describes the child's conceptualization of death. In the fourth chapter the technique which is developed is discusssed. This technique comprises six themes which are projected by way of instructions on a card. The child chooses a card during every session and it is therapeutically played out. There is a central theme of a treasure box, and a box is made to keep memorabilia of the deceased. The therapeutic intervention helps the child to make a treasure box of memories in their hearts.

Liquid fuels provide in a large percentage of South Africa's energy requirements. Because of the vastness of the country no other means of propelling transport could take the place of liquid fuel. South Africa who has for a substantial period found herself being officially cut-off from international crude oil (embargo) and other commodities such as capital, had up to ± 1991 survive this onslaught. Alternatives for the substitution of crude oil derived products (mostly liquid fuels) has been under investigation for many years, internationally as well as locally~ Because of the recent change in the situation, the approach to new investment in this field will now only be effected should it be economically more attractive than investment in the traditional crude oil processes. This study was specifically aimed at, from a South African viewpoint, summarizing various applicable liquid fuel manufacturing processes and related raw material resources, and comparing these processes both from an economic and technological angle with that of crude oil refining. The following resources were investigated: Coal, torbanite, sugar (from sugar cane), natural gas and sunflower seeds. Processes such as coal to fuels (Fischer-Tropsch, coal hydrogenation, solvent extraction), metanol to fuels (MTG-process), metanol ex natural gas (Mobil-M), methanol ex coal, ethanol ex sugar, natural gas to fuels (Fischer-Tropsch, Shell-SMOS), esters (diesel) ex sunflower seeds, fuels ex torbanite via retorting were researched. Aspects covering the availability of resources, degree of commercialisation of processes, product quality and fuel/engine compatibility and general economic and technological guidelines were covered in the study.

Learning disability affects many learners in South Africa and its impact is exacerbated by environmental disadvantage. In a fast changing educational system within a framework of Outcomes-Based Education, where inclusion of learners from various cultures who face a wide variety of barriers to learning is a reality, the need for more accommodating teaching aids and techniques is pressing. Reading comprehension skills influence most aspects of school work, cognitively, emotionally and socially, and therefore learning support strategies to address reading difficulty are especially important. This research focused on visualization as a metacognitive reading comprehension technique for learning support to intermediate level learners with learning disabilities who suffer environmental deprivation. The aim was to help learners to develop and utilise their cognitive skills when reading by forming a mental picture of the text that is being read. Internalization and generalization of this technique was targeted. The communicative meaning of text, rather than fluent word recognition, was emphasized. Manifestations of learning disability, environmental deprivation, problems in reading comprehension and visualization as a "whole brain" approach to reading development were reviewed in the literature. In collaboration with a multicultural school for learners with epilepsy and learning disabilities, the visualization technique was formatively refined during ten sessions of practical implementation. Qualitative and quantitative techniques were used to assess behaviour and performance per learner. Clinical assessments verified the findings of the case studies.

Paratrichodorus meyeri De Waele & Killian, 1992 is extremely sensitive to surface sterilization; therefore in vitro culture could not be utilized for the mass culture of this nematode and another method had to be developed. Hermetically sealed glass containers were employed successfully for the reproduction of Paratrichodorus meyeri. With this method an average 12 times increase was achieved on tomatoes over a period of 60 days. Certain crops were evaluated in the greenhouse to establish their status as hosts for Paratrichodorus meyeri. The aim of this experiment was to determine which plants could be used as hosts for the reproduction of the nematodes in the greenhouse. It was found that tomatoes (cultivar Roma VF) and wheat (cultivar Gamtoos) were excellent hosts, tobacco (cultivar K51E) and onions (cultivar Bon accord) good hosts, tobacco (cultivar TL 38) and lettuce (cultivar Great Lakes) average hosts and sweetcorn (cultivar Golden Bantam), beetroot (cultivar Formanova) and cabbage (cultivar Sugar Loaf) unsatisfactory hosts for this nematode species. The aim was also to determine the effect of this nematode species on tobacco and cotton. Various inoculation levels of Paratrichodorus meyeri were tested on tobacco cultivars K51E, TL33 and RK and the cotton cultivar Acala 1517170. It was established that an inoculation level as low as 50 - 100ft! Qsoil had a negative effect on cotton (cult. Acala 1517170). A damage threshold value of 100ft! Q soil on the tobacco . cultivar K51E was established. It is also possible for tobacco cultivar RK to support this nematode species without any adverse effects it can even be beneficial for this particular cultlvar. It was also determined that a negative correlation exits between the initial number of nematodes inoculated and the final population.

A research gathering the inventory of public sculptures found in the Algarve dating from the 20th and 21st centuries, up to the end of 2009. The concept of public sculpture is analysed through the changes the visual arts have undergone over time. In a generalized approach, it follows that philosophy and aesthetics, which were the foundations of the works prevailing throughout Europe as well as in the rest of the country, showed up late in the sculptures found in the Algarve. Some of the great Portuguese artists of the nineteenth century are represented by public sculptures from the beginning of the twentieth century. The public sculptures up to beginning of the seventies have the hallmark of the Estado Novo and falls under the aegis of the Política do Espírito. Still during this political period, one particular sculpture was erected which broke with the traditional form of public art. Following the political revolution on April 25, throughout the seventies and the eighties, the new political opening allowed the diversification on the themes addressed and the excessive triumphalism placed on monuments gave way to all sorts of topics affecting the daily lives of populations. During the nineties there was a burst as far as creativity is concerned and the region moves towards the production of a huge quantity of sculptures, initiating a period in which new materials and techniques were used to develop the ideas. The three-dimensional works hitherto exclusively produced by Portuguese artists has the contribution of foreign sculptors. In nine years of the 21st century alone, there was a far higher number of works erected in the Algarve than in the two previous centuries put together. Several symposia on sculpture took place promoting meetings gathering artists from around the world leading to the conception and production of works of art

Orientation: Emotions at work have been considered as an important facet of employees’ work life. However, research regarding the investigation of the emotion experiences at work per se has been lacking. Research Purpose: The general objective of this study is to critically investigate what emotion events are experienced and how these events are appraised for them to result in specific emotions. Motivation for the study: Currently a lack of research regarding emotion experiences as a process exists. Research design, approach and method: To investigate emotion experiences as a process a Qualitative study was conducted among one hundred (n=100) professional mining employees using The Critical Incident Technique Approach. Main findings: 84% of the participants experienced negative emotion events and a mere 14% of participants experienced positive emotion events at work. Negative emotion events were appraised as negative and participants indicated not having control or power over the events, yet adaption was possible. Negative emotions included: anger, disgust and sadness. Positive emotion events were appraised as positive even though the participants reported not having control or power over the situation. Participant did report being able to live with the consequences. Positive emotions provoked included joy, pleasure and pride. Practical/managerial implications: When the emotion experiences of employees are investigated as a process, better understanding of emotions will be gained which will enable the implementation of the most appropriate interventions to fulfil individual needs and reaching organisational goals. Contribution/value-adding: Existing research on the emotion experience as a process has been lacking especially in the South African context. This study will thus contribute to research regarding the investigation of the emotion experience as a process and not mere independent components.

Abstract:
The objective of this qualitative study was to explore the extent to which body maps could be implemented by educators as part of the fulfilment of their pastoral role. I approached the study from a constructivistinterpretivist perspective underpinned by action research principles. I implemented an instrumental case study as research design and selected a primary school located in an informal settlement community in the Nelson Mandela Metropole. Ten female educators at this school, three other members of a research team and I took part in the process of data generation. Having acquired baseline information during the first field visit, a fellow researcher and I implemented an intervention during which the techniques of body mapping and making memory boxes (the study focus of my fellow researcher) were introduced to the participants. We then requested them to apply the two techniques (as part of a research assignment) before we undertook a second field visit. At the second visit, we attempted to explore the participants' experiences during the application of the techniques. Throughout the study I relied on focus group discussions, observation, critical self-reflection, auditive methods, visual methods, photos, a reflective research journal and field notes as data collection and capture methods. I analysed and interpreted raw data thematically. Baseline information indicated that educators were quite clear about the theoretical nature of the pastoral role, yet the practical application of this role presented a challenge. Data generated after the intervention indicates how educators understood and used the body mapping technique. This theme was refined into subthemes dealing with implementation modes, application contexts and application outcomes of the body mapping technique. The second main theme indicated the applicability of body maps in the classroom context as part of the pastoral role. This theme comprises subthemes relating to general curricula, practical considerations, alternative uses and application modes, pastoral responsibilities that were facilitated (and not) by participants' use of the body mapping technique. Research findings therefore seem to indicate that the body mapping technique could be used by educators in fulfilling their pastoral role.

Abstract:
The aim of this study was to describe the nurses‘ perception of termination of pregnancy and her perception of her conduct towards clients that request termination of pregnancy guided by Kings‘ Systems Approach and Goal Attainment Theory. A non-experimental quantitative descriptive correlational design was used. A non-probability purposive sampling method was used consisting of institutions in the Western Cape, available to participate in this study, which deliver termination of pregnancy services, gov ernment health care institutions (21) and Marie Stopes clinics (3). Non-probability convenience sampling was used consisting of registered nurses who are working in termination of pregnancy units in these facilities (N=82). Data were collected through the administration of a self-designed questionnaire. The main findings of the study indicate that respondents (personal system) appear to feel positive about the work they are doing. Formal improvement and development are however not utilised optimally. Regarding the interpersonal system, respondents also show a positive orientation to both the woman opting for termination of pregnancy and the foetus. The potential towards transaction and ultimately goal attainment reside within this system. The respondents are also positive about legislation, employers and policies (social system) relating to termination of pregnancy. This orientation creates a milieu that is conducive to transactions, interactions and goal attainment.The main recommendation is that three systems as proposed by King be continuously integrated within the termination of pregnancy setup through, amongst other measures: values clarification, management support, in service education, the inclusion of termination of pregnancy in undergraduate programmes, focus groups and the like.
Die doel van hierdie studie was om die verpleegkundige se persepsie van terminasie van swangerskap en haar persepsie van haar houding en gedrag teenoor kliёnte wat terminasie van swangerskap versoek, aan die hand van King se Sisteembenadering en Doelwitbereikingsteorie te ondersoek en te beskryf. `n Nie-eksperimentele kwantitatiewe beskrywende korrelasie navorsingsontwerp was gebruik. `n Nie-waarskynlike doelbewuste-steekproefneming van die staatsgesondheidsorg-instansies wat terminasie van swangerskapdienste aanbied, is geneem en wat beskikbaar vir hierdie studie was (21) asook die Marie Stopesdienste (3), in die Wes-Kaap. `n Nie-waarskynlike gerieflikheidsteekproefneming is van verpleegkundiges geneem wat swangerskappe in hierdie afdelings termineer of moet termineer (N=82). Data is met behulp van `n selfontwerpte vraelys ingesamel. Die hoofbevindings van die studie dui daarop dat respondente (persoonlike sisteem) positief voel oor hul werk. Formele ontwikkelingshulpbronne word egter nie optimaal deur die sisteem benut nie. Wat die interpersoonlike sisteem betref, toon respondente ook ‗n positiewe oriëntasie tot beide die vrou wat terminasie van swangerskap aanvra en die fetus. Die potensiaal tot transaksie-sluiting en uiteindelike doelwitbereiking is binne hierdie sisteem geleë. Die respondente is ook positief oor wetgewing en die werkgewer en beleid (sosiale siteem) ten opsigte van terminasie van swangerskap. Hierdie oriëntering laat ‗n milieu wat bevorderlik is vir transaksie-sluiting, interaksie en doelwitbereiking. Die hoofaanbeveling is dat voortdurend gepoog moet word na die integrasie van King se drie sisteme binne die terminasie van swangerskapafdelings deur onder meer: waarde-uitklaringswerkswinkels, ondersteuning van bestuur, indiensopleiding, die insluiting van terminasie van swangerskap in voorgraadse kurrikula, fokusgroepe en so meer.

Hierdie navorsing getiteld 'n Ontwikkelingsperspektief van vakleerlingskappe in Suid-Afrika: implikasies vir die onderwysstelsel ondersoek die wortels van die vakleerlingskap stelsel sedert antieke tye, deur die koloniale tydperk in Suid-Afrika, die "armblankevraagstuk"1922-1960, voor-demokrasie 1950-1980, 1980-1993 en post-demokrasie 1994-2014. Die studie konsentreer op die kronologiese verloop van gebeure wat gelei het tot die formalisering van die vakleerlingskapstelsel in Suid-Afrika in 1922 asook die evolusie tot in sy huidige vorm. Spesifieke aandag is geskenk aan wetgewing, beide provinsiaal en nasionaal, wat bygedra het tot die vorming van die stelsels. Die vakleerlingskapstelsel van Amerika is ook ondersoek vanaf sy wortels tot die huidige era met al sy vorme van tegniese beroepsonderwys asook vakleerlingopleiding. Daar is gekyk na al die verskillende Amerikaanse kolleges en tegniese skoolstelsel. ‘n Vergelykende studie tussen Amerika en Suid-Afrika se vakleerlingskapstelsel is gemaak met spesifieke aanbevelings vir die Suid-Afrikaanse stelsel.
This research, entitled A developmental perspective of apprenticeships in South Africa: Implications for the education system, examined the origins of the apprenticeship system from its roots in pre-history, through colonial time in South Africa, the "armblanke-vraagstuk" 1922-1960, pre-democracy 1950-1980, 1980-1993 and postdemocracy 1994-2014. This study concentrated on chronicling the events leading to the establishment of formalized apprenticeship training in South Africa in 1922 and its evolution to its present form. Particular attention was paid to the legislation, both provincial and national, that provided for the establishment of the present system. The apprenticeship system of the USA was also examined from its roots up to the present time in all its forms of technical, vocational and artisan training. Looking at the different college systems and technical training schools of the USA. Comparisons between USA and South Africa‘s apprenticeship systems was made with specific recommendations for South Africa‘s system.
