Abstract:
Inequality between strong and weak, male and female, rulers and ruled has a long history in human society. Scholars, in Nepal are paying more attention to types and degree of gender discrimination rather than the underpinnings and victims’ efforts to eliminate or lessen such discriminatory practices. The objective of this study is to explore how teenage boys and girls cope against parental gendered behaviours. One hundred and twenty-six teenage boys and girls having cross sexed siblings at home were purposively chosen through networking. Data were collected through self-reporting techniques. Open ended questions were asked to the respondents which were categorized under three main themes for the purpose of data analysis. The present study was carried out in Kathmandu metropolitan city. It was found that though many teenage boys and girls resist parental gendered behaviour, significant numbers of them consider such behaviour as normal and easily accept, many others resist against it. Age and gender play influential roles while using coping strategies. It can be concluded that as teenagers grow up, they shift their emotion focused coping to problem solving strategy. Likewise, more girls than boys cope against discrimination emotionally.

Abstract:
Relevance. Children’s safe behaviour is one of the conditions for keeping them safe and sound, healthy and socially integrated, as this is the top-priority objective of the contemporary society. Teenagers are one of the most vulnerable age groups. Th ey are frequently endangered because they show higher rates of careless behaviour. Teenagers with impaired intellectual development having this behavioural tendency cause a lot of concern in both their parents and the entire community. Objective. Th e research is aimed at studying safe behaviour in teenagers with unimpaired and impaired intelligenge. Th e research aims to defi ne peculiarities and diff erences in these teenage groups in situations that appear threatening to their lives, heath or social well-beingMethodology. Th e study involved 109 parents of teenagers aged 12–15. 46 parents are parents of children with unimpaired intellectual development (19 girls and 27 boys). 63 parents had teenage children with impaired intellectual development (35 boys and 28 girls). A questionnaire was off ered. Results. Th e researchers arranged a poll among the parents and obtained data on how safe behaviour is formed in teenagers with impaired intellectual development compared to their peers with unimpaired intelligence. Th e fi ndings show diff erence in behavioural patterns of teenagers with impaired and unimpaired intelligence in such situations as crossing a street, handling electric appliances and sharp cutting tools, acting during outdoor leisure and using gadgets. Additionally, the study defi ned gender diff erences in teenage boys’ and girls’ behavioural patterns when facing dangerous dogs, arguing or fi ghting and even during outdoor leisure. Conclusions. Th e fi ndings reveal the justifi cation basis for diff erent approaches to how to form the culture of safe behaviour in teenagers, if they have or do not have impaired intellectual development or if they belong to diff erent sexes.

Abstract:
To assess the biological age of adolescents, the special literature offers 9 methods for boys and 14 methods for girls. The aim of the article was to determine the more informative methods for boys and girls. Methods: anthropometry, somatometry, somatoscopy, tonometry, spirometry, dynamometry, Hench and Shtange tests, Ruffier and Robinson indices. The interaction of the results of different methods for the assessment of biological age was analysed using factor analysis (principal components method) for groups of subjects of the same gender and age. Boys aged 14-15 (n=102) and girls aged 12-13 (n=101) were studied. The choice of these age groups was explained by the presence of the most significant individual differences in morpho-functional features in the school students of this age. Results: among the methods for assessment of biological age in adolescent school students proposed in the literature, there is not a single one that would be statistically siginificantly related to the other methods. This applies to both boys and girls. The biological age of adolescents can be reliably determined using a set of three components: an assessment of physical development, the heterochronicity index, and the degree of manifestation of secondary sexual characteristics (for boys with a probability of 90.2%, for girls - 92.1%). The percentage ratio of these components has gender peculiarities. Methods for assessing biological age for scientific purposes and quick assessment for use in the practice of physical education and sports are proposed. The indicators in quick assessment technique include body length and the degree of development of the axillary hair. The reliability of the quick assessment technique is 81.4% for boys and 83.2% for girls. Conclusion: the development of adequate physical activity for adolescents of different biological ages will help to improve the physical health of the younger generation.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Purpose. The study is to analyze tobacco smoking among girls aged 15–17 years according to the data of the all-Russian epidemiological monitoring conducted in 2019–2020 and to identify the main aspects and directions of tobacco smoking prevention among girls.Materials and methods. In 2019–2020, on the basis of a multi-stage selection from 12 constituent entities of the Russian Federation (6 Federal Districts), secondary schools were selected by random sampling from urban areas, in which a continuous anonymous survey of students in grades 9–11 was conducted. The total number of respondents was 14084 teenagers (6535 boys and 7549 girls).Results. The data analysis showed that the prevalence of tobacco smoking among girls did not differ significantly from that of boys. Girls started smoking later than boys, but the intensity of initiation at the age of 13–14 years is higher than among boys. The structure of the motives of the first smoking test in boys and girls is the same. However, girls who tried smoking for the first time significantly outperformed boys by the motive «out of curiosity», and boys — «to feel like an adult» and «to please someone.» For most of the main reasons for smoking, girls did not differ significantly from boys, but girls smoked more often to «calm down,» and boys — «to seem more mature.» Awareness of the dangers of smoking among girls is slightly higher than among boys, and their sources of information are more reliable and scientifically based.Conclusion. In 2019–2020 the prevalence of tobacco smoking among girls for the first time in 20 years of monitoring has become the same as among boys, and in some surveyed cities — even higher. In our opinion, this is due to the fact that society’s attitude towards women smoking has changed. Tobacco smoking among women has become less condemned and quite acceptable. However, this working hypothesis requires further, more detailed study.

Abstract:
The subject of the study is the cognitive, emotional and behavioral components of the sexual identity of girls and boys of younger adolescence. The aim of the study was to study the content characteristics of the cognitive, emotional and behavioral components of the sexual identity of girls and boys of younger adolescence and to identify the relationship between these structural components. The author analyzes in detail the features of the sexual identity of girls and boys of younger adolescence. Sexual identity is a complex dynamic structure that begins its formation in early childhood, and by adolescence, due to the psychological characteristics of this period, reaches a new, significant level, which determines the need for its detailed study in this age period. Research methodology: L.S. Vygotsky's cultural and historical theory of human mental development, D.B. Elkonin's age periodization, conceptual positions and main provisions in the study of sexual problems of domestic and foreign psychologists V.E. Kagan, I.S. Kletsina, N.Y. Flotskaya, etc.The empirical base of the study is represented by 30 teenage girls and 30 boys from full families. The age of the participants was 12-13 years. For the first time, the existence of differences in qualitative and quantitative indicators determining the structure of the sexual identity of girls and boys of younger adolescence is theoretically substantiated and empirically proven. Adolescents of both sexes do not have difficulties with building a sex-and-age sequence and identifying their present sex-and-age status, adequately identify themselves according to gender and age. Teenage girls correspond to gender stereotypes to a greater extent than boys. Girls and boys are characterized by the perception of parental influence as inconsistent, unstable and generally incomprehensible to a teenager. The behavioral component of the sexual identity of younger adolescents of both sexes is characterized by uncertainty, undifferentiation, and a combination of both feminine and masculine qualities in behavior.

Abstract:
The article shows the peculiarities of the unconscious sphere and their importance in the formation of the spiritual sphere of the personality of adolescent and teenage years on the basis of instinct, archetypes and unconscious attitudes. The problem of instincts must be approached from the perspective of methodology, understanding it as a mental, unconscious phenomenon. The psychological side is currently central and important for youngsters and teenagers. Fantasies, images, desires, inducements, which can be based on archetypes and unconscious mindsets, play a special role in the formation of the spiritual sphere of the personality in adolescent and teenage years. The sexual instinct of teenagers should be treated as an unconscious phenomenon with enormous potential. The factor of ‘humanizing’ instincts in general and sexual instinct in particular, is the formation of personality archetypes, which include fantasies, images, desires, inducements of teenagers and their connection with the archetype, as a psychological determinant being the main function. In adolescence and youth, mental energy sublimates. Psychological determinants of the unconscious sphere at teenage and junior age can cause imagination, creativity, to define it as subject in a social situation of development, identification of the personality, to assist formation of personal qualities, interaction in a group of people and the ability to achieve goals. In prepubescent years and adolescent age there are appear a desire for freedom, an effort to find meaning, creative activity, a desire for integrity, love, value, an appeal to and unity with the spiritual, higher divine world, which are manifested as signs of the archetype ‘selfhood’.

Abstract:
The work reveals certain elements of the subculture supported by modern teenagers: language features, “revenge-answers”, jokes, quatrains (chants, “sadistic” rhymes), etc. Adolescence is defined as a special period of the personality formation and socialization. The study hypothesizes that social behavior of a teenager is represented through such elements of subculture as folklore genres (school, post-folklore). Teenage folklore is interpreted from the standpoint of the phenomenology of children’s self-consciousness at various stages of its develop- ment and ontogenesis. From this perspective teenage folklore is a mechanism for the development of ethno-cultural socialization and ethnic self-identification, a condition of meaning-making and cultural activity. The research has systematized the methodological base for the study of chil- dren’s folklore and its individual genres. The purpose of the article is to offer to specialists, who are engaged in psychological and pedagogical support of adolescents’ learning and personal development, the materials of relevant school folklore characterizing the specifics of the behavioral subculture. Another aim is to offer psychological and pedagogical interpretation of such materials for further modeling of their pro- fessional activity. The research methods include a survey and standardized observation. The study sample in- cludes 120 teenagers studying in the 6th-9th grades of Saratov schools (N = 120; M = 13,4 years old; boys – 42 %, girls – 58 %). The design of the study is indicated: its purpose, objectives, es- sence, prospects. For individual genres, the results of the local study are compared with the results of all-Russian surveys. The study draws conclusions about the main trends in the modern language of teenage com- munication and about psychological difficulties reflected in the supported folklore. The research sets the task of studying the artifacts of teenage culture in order to establish a holistic invariant scheme of its main elements. Psychological and pedagogical prospects of the conducted research are outlined.

Abstract:
BACKGROUND: Teenage workers are prone to a higher injury risk than adult workers, and adult men are prone to a higher risk of work injuries than adult women. OBJECTIVES: This study aims to examine whether gender differences exist in teenage work accidents, the level of the accidents, their causes, and the types of the injuries. METHODS: A survey was sent to a sample of 2,800 13–19-year-olds, randomly selected from Registers Iceland. The response rate was 48.6%. A chi-square test, CI 95%, was applied to measure gender differences. RESULTS: In total, 16.3%of the respondents had at least one work accident, and 1.2%, an accident that lead to more than one week’s absence from work. No gender differences were observed in the level of the accidents, but appeared in the types of injuries and their causes. Cuts were the most common injuries of the boys, but burns of the girls. Bone fractures were the most serious injuries of the boys, but sprains of the girls. CONCLUSION: Work accidents among teenagers are a particular threat to public health. Therefore, all stakeholders need to work together to prevent teenage work accidents in the future; and to keep in mind the gender diversity of the group.

Abstract:
Recent research on the social and gendered geographies of children and young people is filled with new insights into the social and cultural conditions under which their presence in urban space is moderated and their identity constructed. This study seeks to contribute to this research area, by exploring the ways in which teenage boys acquire and maintain a particularly gendered sense of place. The paper demonstrates that this sense of place is regulated by the support structures of all male schooling, by patriarchal family structures, and through the marshalling of the boundaries of heterosexuality amongst the boy's peer group. The paper concludes that due consideration of these issues needs to be evaluated if the experience of teenagers in urban space is to be effectively understood by social geographers.

Abstract:
Background: dating violence, or violence in teenage couples, is a socially interesting topic, due to its prevalence and its possible use in predicting violence in adult couples. The perception of violence, or the detection of abusive behaviors by teenagers and young people (which can be considered as equivalent concepts), is essential to prevent violence itself. Therefore, the main objective of this research is to determine which behaviors are identified as abusive by teenagers and young people, and the severity that they attribute to them—meaning how they perceive them. Moreover, we will be able to determine whether there are differences between boys and girls in two countries: Spain and Colombia. Methods: for this study, we used two samples from both countries, with a total of 389 teenagers (50.9% females and 49.1% males) who were, on average, 16.56 years old (SD = 1.94 years). We analyzed the factorial invariance depending on sex and country of the sample and the different profiles of violence perception. Results: we found evidence of the internal validity of the questionnaire for what concerns the perception of inter-partner violence. The results point out that the perception of violence in the relationship is composed of two factors related to each other (Multiple and Emotional Abuse), which are invariant depending of sex and country of origin of the sample. The internal consistency of the test is adequate (>0.90). The analysis of the violence perception profiles indicates that Spanish teenagers have a higher perception of it, and, also, that girls hold a higher perception than boys. Conclusions: the results of this research have shown how dating violence (or violence in teenage couples) is differentially perceived not only between genders, but also across cultural contexts. Moreover, these outcomes may enhance the development of possible evidence-based interventions approaching the social problem generated by violence in teenage couples.

Abstract:
Nine boys of secondary school age were referred with undescended testes (UDT) to paediatric surgeons over a period of 8 years. All were referred from the same community paediatric clinic for children with severe learning disabilities. UDT cause concern because of a threefold increase in the incidence of cancer. Cosmesis and reduced fertility were seen as less relevant issues for these boys. The late identification and incidence of UDT are discussed. It is suggested that awareness of this issue should be raised and screening introduced. Advice is needed on the appropriate management of UDT in this group of boys.

Abstract:
To determine growth patterns of the lung and airways in adolescents, we analyzed maximal expiratory flow-volume curves, closing capacity, and residual volume. They were obtained every 6 mo for up to 7 yr in 430 boys and 125 girls (11–19 yr), of whom 143 boys and 36 girls were classified as symptomatic; symptoms were most often minor and limited to childhood. Development of flows vs. volumes was used to investigate growth of the airways relative to lung size. A model of isotropic growth of the airways and air spaces (J. Appl. Physiol. 65: 822–828, 1988) was modified for increasing elastic recoil pressure with growth. Growth of airways relative to volume occurred faster in teenage boys than in teenage girls and was compatible with isotropic growth in 92% of asymptomatic boys and in 44% of asymptomatic girls: dysanaptic growth in teenage girls seems to be a normal phenomenon and not a unique characteristic of symptomatic subjects. Subjects with respiratory symptoms in childhood and/or adolescence have lower flows for a given lung size and airway closure at a greater lung volume when they enter adulthood. However, no difference in patterns of lung growth was observed in association with the presence of respiratory symptoms.

Abstract:
The article treats gender-related differences in addiction-prone personality traits in adolescents. The issue of addicted behavior is a relevant one, for the number of teenagers demonstrating addictive behaviors against the background of socio-economic instability is ever growing despite numerous preventive measures. The authors of the article conduct an empirical research involving 100 schoolchildren (50 boys and 50 girls) of the city of Belgorod (year 7 — year 11) and use E. V. Leus’s, G. V. Lozova’s and A. Yu. Yegorov’s methodology of diagnosing deviant behaviors in adolescents. The article maintains that both male and female adolescents are prone to addiction. Girls are more likely to develop an emotional addiction, while boys are more vulnerable to computer addiction (the internet and social media). The novelty of the research is accounted for by the fact that the article analyzes gender-related differences in adolescents in the conditions of distance learning and presents measures that can help prevent addictive behaviors in adolescents. The elaboration of effective measures aimed at preventing addiction in adolescents is a prospect for further research.

Abstract:
In the Amsterdam Growth and Health Study, 103 girls and 97 boys were studied five times on a longitudinal basis over a period of 8 years, covering the teenage years from 12 to 17 until young adulthood at 22/23 years. Measured were anthropometric variables such as height, weight (BW), and body fat, and physiological variables such as maximal aerobic power (V̇O2max) and endurance performance (max slope). During the teenage period, V̇O2max/BW remains constant in boys and decreases in girls whereas endurance performance increases in boys and remains constant in girls. By young adulthood V̇O2max/BW and maximal slope have declined in both sexes, and in the case of females are even lower than at the beginning of their teens. Boys superiority in aerobic fitness and the decline in aerobic fitness in both sexes is mainly caused by the differences in the intensity of daily physical activity level.

Abstract:
Most researchers interested in mate preference have focused on the desires of adult men and women. Few empirical investigations have been conducted on the preferences of adolescent boys and girls, despite the fact that this developmental period represents a time of awakening romantic and sexual interest. The authors asked 46 teenage boys and girls (average age = 15.09 years) to indicate their preferences for various characteristics in an ideal long-term romantic or short-term sexual partner (randomly assigned). Both sexes emphasized attributes related to physical appeal (e.g., attractive physical appearance, sexy appearance) and sexual drive (e.g., sexual passion, high sex drive, sexual responsiveness) when evaluating a casual sexual partner. Conversely, participants focused more upon intellect and other mentally appealing attributes (e.g., intelligence, humor) when considering a romantic partner. No sex differences were found, suggesting that teenage boys and girls share a similar conception of the “perfect” partner.

Abstract:
Against the background of the contention that social media use could have negative effect and impact on the mental health of users, arising from addictive and prolonged usage, this paper focuses on the reported heightened negative impact experienced by teenage girls as compared to teenage boys. It explores the possible contribution of the patriarchal socialisation of girls into acceptance of objectification and self objectification, making them more susceptible to interest in body presentation and beauty, and this likely opening them up to more engagement than boys on such issues on social media. The implication, as the paper argues, is the need to factor in the continuing importance of patriarchy and its manifestation of objectification and self objectification in the lives of women and girls as critical to understanding, explaining and addressing the heightened negative impact of social media use on the mental health of girls vis-a-vis boys.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission sponsored us to perform a human factors evaluation of existing swimming pool warning signs. Our study covered warnings which convey the messages “NO DIVING” and “WATCH CHILDREN”. These warnings are particularly intended to reduce the incidence of diving accidents involving teenage boys and drowning accidents involving children under five; population groups that are over-represented in accident statistics. Our evaluation of twenty-two existing signs uncovered deviations from warning sign design principles and identified opportunities to improve each of the signs. Following the evaluation, we developed improved signs and tested them using teenage boys and mothers of young children as subjects. We then made final recommendations to the CPSC for improved signs.

Abstract:
Adolescence is vulnerable to nutritional problems. Unbalanced nutritional needs and adequacy will affect nutritional problems, namely excess nutrition and undernutrition. Teenage girls and boys in Indonesia are currently experiencing nutritional problems. About 1 in 4 teenage boys has a stunting problem, 1 in 7 is obese, and almost a quarter have a lack of blood. This shows that the problem of nutrition in adolescent boys is still a problem that has not been resolved, so socialization is needed to overcome this problem. Socialization is carried out by conveying and explaining material related to nutrition to male adolescents. The result of the socialization that was delivered was that young male students were very enthusiastic to ask questions related to the material presented because they felt that the nutritional intake they were eating did not meet the proper nutritional adequacy rate. The final conclusion from the socialization activity was that the activity ran smoothly and the teenage boys understood what nutrients they should consume so they would not experience nutritional problems in the future. Abstract:
The purpose of the research is to study the constitutional features of teenage boys with the syndrome of vegetative dysfunction of sympathetic tonic type. A somatometry of 100 adolescent boys (70 healthy and 30 boys with syndrome of vegetative dysfunction of sympathetic tonic type) according to V.V. Bunak’s method (1941) was carried out. Determination of somatic type and severity of fat, muscle and bone components of the body was conducted by the method of R. N. Dorokhov, V., Petrukhin (1989). As results of this study the fea-tures of somatic type distribution and severity of fat, muscle and bone components of the body in the boys with syndrome of vegetative dysfunction were revealed. In boys with syndrome of vegetative dysfunction the predo-minance macrosomic type (38,4%) was found, this corresponds to high values of length and weight. In healthy boys it was established the predominance micro and intermediate types (31,5%; 28.6%) corresponding to aver-age and below average values of overall performance. To study muscle and bone components of the body, the predominance of high and average values among boys with syndrome of vegetative dysfunction sympathetic tonic and below average values - in healthy boys.

Abstract:
The paper presents the results of an empirical study on the personality traits of sexually active teenagers. The research identified the personality traits of teenagers who are inclined to look for sexual relations. The research focused on the following: motivation and values, implicit representations about sexual contacts, parent-child relations, and self-concept. The study comprised 465 individuals including 405 school students aged 14-16 and 60 mothers of the teenagers examined. The results demonstrate that teenagers' refusal to begin sexual life, provided they have this opportunity (i.e. a partner), is linked to their subjective perception of the basic values reflected in their consciousness. The research also focused on the features of teenagers' implicit representations with regard to sexual intercourse. This allowed to identify the role of sexual intercourse in teenagers' life. The factors regulating sexual relations in the age under study have been revealed. The research shows that teenage sexual intercourse is mainly driven by cognitive motives combined with the hedonistic (boys) and communicational/social ones (girls). Emotionally distant parents are another factor triggering sexual relations. The negatively critical attitude to sexual partners was also displayed, especially by girls. The attitude was expressed by teenagers even where they initiated sexual intercourse themselves, without been pressured into it by their partners. The study has an applied character and enables effective preventive and corrective work with sexually active teenagers.

Abstract:
The transition of political regime in Indonesia during 1995-2004 has implicated the dynamic discourse on gender ideology. It is reflected on the production of sex articles in Hai magazine, the only boys’ lifestyle magazine in Indonesia, for more than three decades. This paper attempts to analyze the sex articles in Hai magazine. Using Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis, we found that the articles of safe and healthy sex socialization portray sex as a pleasing activity for teenage boys. However, sexual pleasure defined by Hai does not refer to Hai’s attempt to promote sexual freedom. This pleasure actually reflects the idea of normative sexuality. It is demonstrated in this scholarly work how the discourse of sexual pleasure produced by Hai magazine became a strategy to promote safe sex. Hence, it is being challenged that the promotion of safe sex strategy is a manifestation of Hai’s compromise toward the contestation of various ideas of sexuality existing in Indonesia in the 1990s and 2000s, during the transition of political regime in Indonesia, including the conservatism and sexual liberalism.

In depth interviews were employed for data collection .The sample compromised five school girls with friends who dropped out of school due to teenage pregnancy, five girl child drop outs and three elders knowledgeable in Shona culture. The analysis was concerned with the attitudes of Shona society on teenage pregnancy and dropping out of school; in particular the girls’ family, the girls’ prospective in-laws, her school peers and the church. Findings revealed the trauma that the pregnant girl-child faces. It was noted that she suffers rejection, isolation, shame and low self esteem. Furthermore due to economic hardships the boys responsible for the pregnancy are not economically ready to start a family. Prospective in-laws discourage marriage because they feel that their boy children are not ready for marriage and are being taken advantage of. Recommendations were made that the family and the society should take a more supportive role when faced with pregnant teenagers.</em></p></div>
