Full textThis dissertation is intended to contribute to the discussion of the influence on the determinants of technological intensity between low-tech and high-tech in Brazilian industries. For this analysis, we based on the database for a survey of innovation research - PINTEC conducted by IBGE in the triennium 2009-2011. The sample includes 8,578 innovative Brazilian companies were surveyed in low-tech industries (food and textiles manufactures) and high-tech (vehicles and electronics industries). A methodology of factorial correspondence analysis was used to help identify the variables that is better discriminate the low-tech industries of high-tech. The variables considered are sources of information; government support; skilled workers dedicated in R&D and degree of novelty in product and/or process. The results indicate that low-tech firms innovate more in the process, have fewer people dedicated in R&D, the most significant source of information are suppliers and they are large users in funding for the purchase of machinery and equipment. On the other hand, the high-tech industries are more innovative in products and have more people dedicated in R&D department. High-tech companies search for information on other groups of companies, customers and competitors. In addition, they also obtain more government tax incentives to invest in R&D.
