Full textThis doctoral thesis aims to assess the consequences of the integration of the new information technology and communication media (NITC) on the workforce in Gabon, concerning both the organisational field and the field of workforce health. More precisely, the objective of the current thesis focuses on three aspects. The first aspect concerns the factors which are bound to facilitate the use of NITC by the employees. The second aspect assesses the changes triggered by the use of NITC in the organisation of the employees’ work. Last but not least, the last aspect assesses the impact of NITC on the physical and psychological health of the employees. A questionnaire was applied on a sample of 136 employees who worked in the banking system in Gabon. The designed tool is structured in four parts: (A) an identification part comprising the socio-demographic variables (age, sex, marital status) and the socio-organisational ones (seniority, daily length of use and frequency of use of the NITC); (B) the Brangier and Hammes scale (2007), which measures the relation man-work-organisation starting from the model of symbiosis; (C) a 30-item questionnaire designed according to the research needs, based on the analysis of the categorial-thematic content of the discourses provided by employees in Gabon while describing their daily work routine. It focuses on the influence of NITC on the organisation of work (efficiency in work, communication practises, autonomy, information overload and professional isolation); (D) a questionnaire built in the same manner as the previous one, exploring the perceived connections between NITC and health at the workplace (physical issues, professional stress and professional well-being at work). Globally, the obtained results show that the connections that the employees in Gabon have with the NITC are strongly correlated with the way in which they use them. However, they do not indicate any connection between the use of NITC inside the organisations in Gabon and the organisation of work. Moreover, these results show that on the one hand the NITC are perceived as the source of physical health issues (particularly musculoskeletal issues) and psychological issues (particularly professional stress), but on the other hand they are also perceived as causing a certain psychological well-being (particularly when it comes to the working environment and the involvement in work/self-accomplishment). Finally, our work highlights two mediations: the sharing technologies (vs. assistive technologies) constitute a total mediator of the relation between the perception of the symbiosis between man-work-organisation and the perceived occurrence of the TMS (vs. depression). Our research also has an applicative dimension on short-term, but it opens the gate towards future research patterns aiming to improve the integration and development of NITC in Gabon on mid-term

Full textThis dissertation aims to empirically study the business and societal consequences arising from the usage of emerging information technologies. The first chapter examines the unintended spillover effects of health information technology integration in combating the opioid crisis. I find that for a focal county, its neighboring state’s integrating Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) into local Electronic Health Records leads to an increase in the focal county’s consumption of prescribed opioids, an undesirable spillover effect. Moreover, this undesirable spillover effect is mitigated when prescribers in the focal county have access to the neighboring state’s PDMP data via interstate PDMP data sharing. In the second chapter, I explore the effect of opting out of cookie tracking on consumer behavior on a news website. I find that consumers increase the quantity and diversity of their news consumption after disabling cookie tracking. This effect could be attributed to consumers' intrinsic value of enhanced privacy control. The results imply that protecting consumer privacy can add business value to firms

Full textThe distribution of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and HIV / AIDS prevalence in Canada presents large inequalities between different socio-cultural groups. Aboriginal people are, among the population, which pay the heaviest price. The First Nations of Quebec and Labrador Health and Social Services Commission (FNQLHSSC) has identified sexually transmitted infections, including HIV/AIDS, as a priority health issue. The Aboriginal Strategy on HIV / AIDS estimates that to be effective, interventions to prevent HIV / AIDS must target various groups, among which Aboriginal youth is a particular target. In this sense, the familiarity of the younger generation with technology positions especially the use of information and communications technology (ICT) as a highly promising avenue for HIV / AIDS prevention among adolescents and young adults. We conducted a knowledge synthesis in this innovative field following the methodology suggested by the Cochrane Collaboration to highlight the effectiveness and the adoption factors of interventions using ICT for the prevention of STIs/HIV/AIDS and for the promotion of sexual and reproductive health among adolescents and young adults. The results of this systematic review were used to develop and conduct, in partnership with the FNQLHSSC, a research project aiming at studying the feasibility of interventions using information and communication technologies (ICT) to promote sexual health among adolescents and young adults of Quebec First Nations (FN) communities. As a complement to this feasibility evaluation, a study was conducted in order to formulate exhaustive recommendations for the development of evidence-based interventions that also take into account the characteristics of the target population. This study aimed to identify the factors underlying condom use among 13-18 year olds from FN communities of Quebec. We discussed in this thesis the results of those studies, as well as various issues of our research partnership with the FN stakeholders who participated in our project. The practical implications of our results, in terms of research and intervention, are to be discussed with our main partner, the FNQLHSSC, in order to maximize benefits for the populations of PN.

Full textDesigning product or services for healthcare system is highly complex, costly and risky. It combines constraints such as being a multi decisional and multilevel system with specific financial model linked to the state the healthcare system organization belongs to. In the highly marketing-time sensitive context of innovative products or services, there is challenge for designers to be able to match the new design to the users’ needs, answering to their context or usages while integrating all system stakeholder components. Telemedicine (TM) is the use of ITtechnologies to provide medical care or medical advice. It is considered a care delivery transformation combining medical, technological and organizational innovation. Using the example of Teledermatology a dermatological application of TM, this PhD develops a methodology based upon users contexts and usages to design integrate and provide an assessment model to decision makers. The opportunity to implement and integrate the service in French department of dermatology is discussed

Full textRecently applied to the consumer behaviour field, regulatory focus theory suggests that two motivational states, called promotion and prevention, determine judgment and behaviour. Our research intends to assess its contribution to health behaviour and to health information processing traditionally inspired by the cognitive paradigm. The literature review and an exploratory study underline the interests regulatory focus theory could provide in the health domain but argue in favour of the necessity for adaption in such a context. A specific scale measurement of health regulatory focus is constructed and validated on a sample of 1600 consumers. Consequences of the construct on health locus of control, health risk and health behavior provided further validity evidence. Antecedents of health regulatory focus included health experience, subjective health state, optimism and neuroticism. In order to test the role of health regulatory focus on health information processing, an experimentation consisting in manipulate verbal and non-verbal communication of a functional food is conducted. Our results show that health regulatory focus influences the understanding of information, perceived efficacy of the product and purchase intention. Complementary analysis aiming at replicating past researches confirmed the main influence of motivation to process information and nutrition knowledge

Full textNew informatic tools appear. Do they have an impact on the organization of the companies ? It is what we have to examine in the present thesis. Its is advisable to find the applications which make it possible to use these new tools with effectiveness. In a first part, we observe the fields of the problem : it will be seen how to conceive an information system and we question about the way in which the companies set up the new system. Then in a second part, we analyse the problem of the impact of this new system on the whole of the organization by proposing a method which can be appropriate for the companies to improve their performances

Full textThis dissertation analyses information based technologies usages in organizations and their influence on control assemblages. An existing structurational view of technology usages consequences is adapted to an approach of control that is also informed by structurational principles. The resulting model of analysis is mobilised for studying a collaborative technology appropriation process. A preliminary study based on 34 interviews is carried out to outline the appropriation context of this technology. The main case study is grounded on 44 interviews and 14 days of non participative observations. This research shows that usages as they develop, are similar to successive negotiation steps that progressively revise control. This process entails two main revisions. On the one hand, administrative control can be seen as updated as they coalise to obtain a systematic and spontaneous reporting from individuals. On the other hand, appropriation brings the dissolution of social control and integrative devices split from the group they originate from. These revisions can be seen as the diffusion of an advanced 360° accounting logic

Full textInformation has become a new demand in healthcare. Confronted to such claims – dialogue, transparency, communication – officials had to find solutions to help the citizens-users of healthcare to regain confidence towards their physicians as well as toward healthcare system. Information is a means enhanced by law-maker to reach the global aim of health democracy. The information of users is a tool favouring access to healthcare protection, thus the base from which springs the principle of citizen and equality towards health. It contributes by its double side – preventive information and curative information – to deeply restorer the medical link, both collective and individual. Since the 4th march 2002 law, healthcare users have been awarded a genuine power of action and of self decision. They are fully committed in management of their health. As actors and thanks to information, they can manage their own therapies as well as healthcare policies. Medical relationship have thus transformed the outdated “fathercare manager” into autonomy and finally into partnership, therefore transforming the basic notion of “patient”. Healthcare has become a field of codecision. Information helps to reach a goal of quality, equality and balance among its various actors by different tools : highlighted consent, medical file, secrecy, medical policies. Information has become a regulating tool of medical relationship

Full textThe use of New Information Technologies (NIT) has been very popular these last years in teamwork within firms. This popularity is a consequence of a both technological and cultural phenomenon : The Internet and its derivatives (Extranet, Intranet). The Internet phenomenon has led to the rise of new ways of working, communicating and managing knowledge in organizations. Yet to the firm, using NIT or not is a strategic choice : A wrong decision may lead to death. That is what came to happen to several firms that went though NIT adoption without first analysing the eventual consequences on their competencies. This might be the reason why 48% of the CEOS we met still have negative prejudices about the impact of NIT on learning and communication in their firm. This emphasizes the necessity to study the actual impact of NIT on communication as well as individual and collective knowledge within the firm. Data in this research were collected before and after the implementation of NIT in a Management Information System. Two methods were used : The first one is qualitative, and was based on an action-research. The second one is quantitative, and used statistical analyses of means and variances differences. The main result of this research is that NIT integration in a Management Information System may facilitate access to accurate information and knowledge, and booster performance in the workplace, while not necessarily improving interpersonal cooperation and collaboration
