Full textNowadays, the use of Additive Manufacturing processes keeps growing in the industry. Among the numerous kinds of AM processes, metallic additive manufacturing processes, and metallic Additive Layer Manufacturing in particular, are the most interesting from a mechanical designer point of view. Several research studies have been conducted on the topic of Design For Additive Manufacturing, mostly discussing the choice of AM processes or presenting the redesign of parts. There is no specific design methodology for ALM processes that takes their specificities into account.During this PhD thesis, the changes that ALM processes bring to the design space were investigated. The designer has the opportunity to easily manufacture thin parts, complex parts, lattice structures or mechanisms that don't need any assembly. These processes also have specific manufacturing constraints compared to conventional processes. The heat dissipation is the most important factor since it can cause distortions and porosities. Powder removal, surface and geometrical quality also need to be considered during design. A specific design for additive manufacturing methodology is necessary to take these changes into account. This work focuses on the Electron Beam Manufacturing process. Experiments were conducted and analyzed to assess the manufacturability regarding the thermal phenomena (during melting), the powder removal and the quality of the parts produced by EBM. The impact of the part geometry on manufacturing duration and manufacturing cost was also established. In order to use allow designers to use these pieces of information, we suggested a designing methodology. From the requirements of the parts, one or several parts are generated by the designer or by using topological optimization tools. The orientation of the part inside the manufacturing space is set before designing a refined parametric geometry. This parametric geometry is optimized in order to meet the user requirements as well as the EBM requirements. The last step is the modification of the geometry to comply with the finishing operations (machining allowances for example) and the placement of supports, if needed. This methodology was illustrated with the redesign of two example parts and showed important mass savings from the parts (while meeting user and process requirements). The prospects discovered and highlighted during this work, some of which were preliminary investigated, are presented in a specific chapter

Full textThree-dimensional (3D) laminated composites are increasingly used in different industrial areas. Their mechanical characteristics are advantageous, in particular by their better through-the-thickness strength and stiffness. Tufting is an ongoing technology, which not only adapts to various materials but also easy to achieve various patterns and shapes. This thesis is dedicated to the development of tubular assembly composite by tufting technology, the analysis of the influence of tufting parameters on mechanical performance by the plate assembly composite instead of the tubular assembly is to simplify the experimental study. In addition to the shear properties of the tufted preform and the tufted composite are introduced, the degradation behaviours of tufting thread are also studied. Then,an improvement tufting mechanism is proposed. The configurations of 3D tufted products have been designed and the significant parameters can be adjusted on the home-designed tufting device by GEMTEX. The influence of tufting density on Mode II in-plane shear properties of the tufted preform and the composite promised to the optimisation of the tufting process. Tensile test and the image-observation methods of tufting thread are carried out to determine the degradation behaviours, meanwhile to improve a novel tufting mechanism. Moreover, in order to discuss the tubular assembly, the tests on the plat assembly are carried out. These works open up the development of the new applications under this assembly technology

Full text. The use of near-field optical microscopy SNOM is still very limited due to difficulties in instrumental work. The probe is the heart of the microscope and control its use (removal of optical settings number) is the technique key to access this method to a larger number of users. This thesis work is realized in the context of a project to achieve a concept proof for an innovative probe organic / inorganic hybrid material, lever type, incorporating an optical function. In the first part, the history of microscopy and the principle of the optical near field are described in a literature study. Then, the various commercial probes of optical fiber or cantilever type, with aperture or apertureless, or otherwise, their advantages and disadvantages, their manufacturing techniques and the main materials used are presented. Based on this literature study, we propose a new probe full tip hybrid material that combines the advantages of each type of probe. The choice reasons of the hybrid material as base material of the probe and its characteristics are also presented in this part. In the second part we detail the manufacturing process of the material (synthesis) as well as each step role in this process and changes made in response to changes in the synthesis parameters. Characterization of this material is also carried out in this part by measuring its refractive index and its Young's modulus. The third part is devoted to the determination of the probe dimensions to maximize the optical transmission and collection power based on a theoretical study through simulations. Several parameters effect on the light propagation in the probe is also studied (length, width, thickness and stiffness of the lever and aperture towards the end of the tip). The fourth part is dedicated to the probe achievement in hybrid material and associated mechanical and optical characterizations. It presents the manufacturing optimized process of optical probes coupling masking defining method probes and releasing method by reactive ion etching and etching xenon fluoride "DRIE + XeF2". Using this process, optical waveguides were realized and characterized for the determination of optical losses and therefore the absorption coefficient of the developed hybrid material. The conclusion presents open perspectives as part of a larger project

In a second phase, the problems of transfer of tolerances in manufacture in 3D are treated with a new method being based on graphic tools such as the graphs of manufacture and the variations fields. Full textPower Electronic converters are now widely used in all areas of energy conversion. They are tools that cannot be ignored in any process of managing electrical energy transfers from the lowest powers levels (a few mW) to several tens or even hundreds of MW. Power electronics technologies are currently undergoing a double mutation linked to the possibilities offered by integration technologies on the one hand and the arrival of new Wide-Band-Gap power semiconductor components on the other hand.In this thesis supported by the French ANR, we studied and evaluated the potentialities associated with the integration of traditional power components (Silicon) as well as those based on Wide-Band-Gap materials (GaN). We have developed new technological processes for the integration of GaN components with a lateral structure and silicon components with a vertical structure. The application context of this thesis is linked to the problematic of increasing the level of electrification in new generation of aircrafts. For Wide-Band Gap GaN type power devices with a lateral structure (low voltage), we proposed a new method of device-attachment to a metalized ceramic substrate (DBC) and we demonstrated that this solution made it possible to considerably improve the thermal management of these components. On the basis of these structures, we also presented and evaluated modeling methods allowing the design of the whole packaging. This modeling, using numerical tools based on finite element method or analytical equations, deals with two aspects of the design: the predetermination of the thermal behavior and the predetermination of the electrical and electromagnetic behavior (with regard to the conducted aspects)For components with vertical structures (high voltage), we have demonstrated the technological feasibility of an alternative solution to traditional packaging (assembly on a DBC substrate and electrical connection by wire bonding process). The proposed process allows, by embedding the power dies in the PCB, to carry out a 3D interconnection making it possible to reduce the parasitic loop inductances mainly linked to the parasitic inductances of the bondwires. This has been demonstrated on a converter prototype. Embedding power devices is thus particularly suitable in the case of components with very fast switching capabilities

Full textWork presented enters within the framework of the design of mechanical systems and more particularly within the framework of the taking into account of knowledge "trades" in design. Work consisted in analyzing the data and the knowledge of design and machining. On the basis of the technological choices of solutions carried out by the designer, we tried to justify a maximum of the product data by "knowledge". Within this framework, we set up the concepts of QFS and QFR to integrate part of knowledge. We also described a method of design applicable to the bearing assemblies. This one allows to help the designer at the time of the choice of the axial thrusts and of the chains of dimensions. We finally set up functions to bind parameters of the tolerance range, of dimensional quality and roughness in this integration context

Full textProteomics, i.e. study of three-dimensional structure of proteins encoded by genome and their alterations under the influence of environment, diseases and drugs, is of great interest for the scientific community. Understanding of changes in proteins expression is an important challenge as they can be used as a biological indicator for illnesses and drug therapeutic effects estimation. But nowadays, only few of them have been characterized, their considerable number requiring faster analysis, with the development of devices compatible with automation and integrating numerous functions: lab on a chip (LOC). Mass spectrometry appears to be the most powerful tool for proteomics researches. It relies on ionisation of a liquid by an electrospray source emitting tiny droplets collected by a mass spectrometer which carries out proteins identification. However, usual sources suffer from numerous drawbacks: poor control of dimensions, incompatibility with automation and LOC. In this context, we have made use of micro and nanotechnologies for new low cost miniaturized silicon sources mass fabrication, integrable in LOC. Characterizations show that these sources are more sensitive and a thorough study of droplets emission is suggested in order to enhance electrospraying control with the aim of other applications as direct writing by nanolithography

Full textSolar energy is the most promising and powerful energy source among renewable energies. Photovoltaic electricity is obtained by direct transformation of the sunlight into electricity by means of photovoltaic cells. The objective of this work is to develop photovoltaic cells with back interdigitated contacts. In the first chapter, we recall the principle of operation and the fundamental parameters of a photovoltaic cell. In a second part, we explain specificities of the interdigitated back-contact solar cells, as well as the advantages and the disadvantages of such cells. In the second chapter we study the operation of interdigitated back-contacts solar cells by two dimensional numerical simulation in order to optimize the geometry and doping profiles of the cell. The third chapter relates to the techniques and the methods of characterization of photovoltaic devices and components. In the fourth chapter, we describe the elaboration of interdigitated back-contact cells. Three technological processes are presented in order to develop a simple technology for cells realization. In particular, we develop the auto-aligned technological process, which enables to elaborate the cells by using only one lithography step. In the last chapter we examine various approaches to reduce the surface recombination: SiO2, silicon nitride deposited by UVCVD, hydrogen annealing, etc. .

Full text[The shrinkage of the VLSI circuits size, requires research in new gate and dielectric materials. The refractory metals and their silicides advantageous because of a higher conductivity than aluminium and polysilicon. The electrical characterization of tungsten and tungsten silicides gate MOS structures, allows to exhibit the influence of the technological deposition parameters : sputtering and post deposition annealing induce a diffusion of impurities in the oxide and at the interface deforming the capacitance voltage characteristics. The oxide nitridation yields a dielectric better adapted for the VLSI requirements than the simple oxidation of silicon(higher breakdown field impurities barrier). Electrical analysis (capacitance measurement Tunnelling and avalanche injection) ,of the plasma nitrated oxide MIS structure, gives the evolution as a function of the nitration time,of the trapping in the insulating volume and at the silicon insulating interface,as well as the traps characteristics. Plasma nitration improves the dielectric quality when the nitration time does not exceed one hour. Trapping in the volume is decrease and the interface degradation limited. ]

Full textControlling the manufacturing costs of integrated circuits while increasing their density is of a paramount importance to maintain a certain degree of profitability in the semi-conductor industry. Among various components of a circuit, we are interested in vertical metallic connections known as “vias”. During manufacturing, a complex lithography process is used to form an arrangement of vias on a silicon wafer support, using an optical mask. For manufacturing reasons, a minimum distance between the vias must be respected. Whenever this is not the case, we are talking about a “conflict”. In order to eliminate these conflicts, the industry uses a technique that decomposes an arrangement of vias in several subsets, where minimum distance constraints are respected: the formation of the individual subsets is done, in sequence, on a silicon wafer using one optical mask per subset. This technique is called Multiple Patterning (MP). There are several ways to decompose an arrangement of vias, the goal being to assign the vias to a minimum number of masks, since the masks are expensive. Minimizing the number of masks is equivalent to minimizing the number of colors in a unit disk graph. This is a NP-hard problem however, a number of “good” heuristics exist. A recent and promising technique is based on the direction and self-assembly of the molecules called Directed Self Assembly (DSA), allows to group vias in conflict according to certain conditions. The main challenge is to find the best way of grouping vias to minimize the number of masks while respecting the constraints related to DSA. This problem is a graph coloring problem where the vertices within each color define a set of independent paths of length at most k also called a k-path coloring problem. During the graph modeling, we distinguished two k-path coloring problems: a general problem and an induced problem. Both problems are known to be NP-hard, which explains the use of heuristics in the industry to find a valid decomposition into subsets. In this study, we are interested in exact methods to design optimal solutions and evaluate the quality of heuristics developed in the industry (at Mentor Graphics). We present different methods: an integer linear programming (ILP) approach where we study several formulations, a dynamic programming approach to solve the induced case when k=1 or k=2 and when the graphs have small tree-width; finally, we study a particular case of line graphs. The results of the various numerical studies show that the naïve ILP formulations are the best, they list all possible paths of length at most k. Tests on a snippet of industrial instances of at most 2000 vertices (a largest connected component among those constituting an instance) have shown that the two problems, general and induced, are solved in less than 6 seconds, for k=1 and k=2. Dynamic programming, applied to the induced k-path coloring when k=1 and k=2, shows results equivalent to those of the naïve ILP formulation, but we expect better results by dynamic programming when the value of k increases. Finally, we show that the particular case of line graphs can be solved in polynomial time by exploiting the properties of Edmonds’ algorithm and bipartite matching

Full textDuring these last decades, Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) techniques, well developed for transistors, have been used for the Micro ElectroMechanical Systems (MEMS) devices. Thanks to the combination of different physical properties (such as electronic, mechanical, optical etc.) the fabrication of various kinds of miniaturized sensors has been made possible. The sub-µm downscaling of MEMS has allowed the emergence of a new kind of devices called NEMS (for Nano ElectroMechanical Systems) and the possible use of the electromechanical systems in specific applications in which a high level of sensitivity and resolution is necessary, such as gas sensing, mass spectrometry and molecules recognition, to replace traditional bulky machines. Nevertheless, the use of these NEMS requires a CMOS electronic to enhance NEMS resonators readout and to implement closed-loop oscillators (e.g. phase-locked loop or self-oscillating loop) that provide real-time mass measurements. The integration of the electronic circuit with the resonators is a critical aspect for the fabrication of high performance sensors. The best way consists in monolithically processing these two parts on the same die allowing a size reduction of the sensor and an optimal signal transmission between the NEMS resonators and the CMOS circuit. In a first time, this thesis proposes to analyze the interest of this co integration from an electrical point of view. In a second time, this thesis deals with the development of a 3D co integration in which the nano resonators are fabricated above the CMOS circuit and the interconnections. The final part is focused on the layout design considerations for the implementation of a compact mass sensor based on a NEMS array co integrated with a CMOS

Full textThis thesis aims to improve the understanding of the evolution of the production systems of firms by analyzing their choices in production equipement. Specifically, the increase in automated equipement is compared to the improvement of production organization as a way for evolution. The basic assumption of the study is that the choice between these two ways depends on the spreading features of automated equipement in the industry and on the internal strategy of each firm. When applied to the case of the processed seafood industry, the study also considers as a factor the existing variation, in quality and quantity, of the supplies, due to the unstable nature of seafood and to its production mode, i. E. Fishery. In a first part the analysis points out the strategic context of the processed seafood industry, then, it shows the existence of a technological barrier, and explains it as a consequence of two factors : the specific features of seafood and of seafood and of its processing, the supply conditions of automated equipement. Eventually, a link is shown between the strategic specificities of the firms, e. G. The size and stability of supplies, and their behaviours against automation. Consequently, the behaviour of the firms depends on their stage of development. But, to explain the whole range of observed behaviours, both technological and strategic features must be jointly taken into account

It is industrially employed from the 28 nm node. However, theimplementation of ESD (Electrostatic Discharges) protections in these technologies isstill a challenge. While the standard approach relies on SOI substrate hybridization (byetching the BOX (buried oxide)), allowing to fabricate vertical power devices, we focushere on structures where the current flows laterally, in the silicon film. Full textThe manufacturing dimensioning intends to determine the intermediary geometrical and dimensional state of the part during its manufacturing process. This manufacturing dimension also permits to respect the functional requirements given by the design drawing on one hand, and the manufacturing constraints on the other (the machine precision, minimal machining extra thickness. . . ). The TMT method (Three-dimensional Manufacturing Tolerancing) is a three-dimensional approach of manufacturing dimensioning with the concept of small displacements torsor. This approach permits to treat the specification to definition drawing defined by the ISO norms. The purpose is to analyse the impact of the manufacturing deviations on each specification to be considered. This method uses a precise definition of the reference systems in each phase in correlation with the machine adjustment process. The nominal part model is directly fixtured on the datum system of the studied requirement so as to minimize the number of the unknowns. This approach puts into evidence the obtained calculation simplifications, which permits a simple writing of the dimensions chains resultant to verify each requirement

Full textThis thesis is devoted to the characterization of an innovative inkjet printing technology for the fabrication of multilayer and multi-material structures. We will use this technology to create printed single and multilayer interdigitated filters. The multilayer aspects open the way to work on tunable structures that could be the same type as the interdigitated multilayer filter. The first chapter consists of a literature study on multilayer technologies and in particular the inkjet printing technology. In the second chapter, we tested this technology by printing 2-D patterns with –made with a silver ink in order to establish different design rules to be applied for the creation of RF components. A multilayer printing approach (silver and ceramic inks) is validated after a development of the ceramic-based ink developed with the Heraeus 51K65 dielectric material which can be fired at low temperature (800°C). The third section presents a multilayer filter fabricated by this technology in order to achieve footprint reduction compared to a silver monolayer interdigitated filter. The fourth chapter presents a simple planar system to easily retrieve an equivalent model of a varactor (Rs and Cj) to serve as a component of frequency tuning. Different examples of tunable resonators using such varactor are finally presented

Full textNowadays the scaling of bulk silicon CMOS technologies is reaching physical limits. In this context, the FDSOI technology (fully depleted silicon-on-insulator) becomes an alternative for the industry because of its superior performances. The use of an ultra-thin SOI substrate provides an improvement of the MOSFETs behaviour and guarantees their electrostatic integrity for devices of 28nm and below. The development of high-voltage applications such DC/DC converters, voltage regulators and power amplifiers become necessary to integrate new functionalities in the technology. However, the standard devices are not designed to handle such high voltages. To overcome this limitation, this work is focused on the design of a high voltage MOSFET in FDSOI. Through simulations and electrical characterizations, we are exploring several solutions such as the hybridization of the SOI substrate (local opening of the buried oxide) or the implementation in the silicon film. An innovative architecture on SOI, the Dual Ground Plane EDMOS, is proposed, characterized and modelled. It relies on the biasing of a dedicated ground plane introduced below the device to offer promising RON.S/BV trade-off for the targeted applications

Full textThe integration of passive components on silicon is one of the solutions to meet the concerns of miniaturization of electronic radio frequency systems. Another response to these evolution is provided by the introduction of microelectromechanical systems to replace electronic functions. This project explores a mixed approach to simultaneously integrate passive components and MEMS resonant. The manufacturing process of passive chips is the starting point for making resonators as an alternative to quartz. Work on three types of structures are detailed in this thesis: aluminum rings with out-of-plan vibrations, a tubular geometry made of silicon vibranting on a contour mode and single-crystal silicon contour-mode resonators. The operating principle is explained, as weIl as the means to achieve them without resorting to a SOI substrate. The comparison between electrical measurements and various analytical or numerical models has guided the work towards a solution with good performance. With quality factor exceeding 50000 at a frequency of 24 MHz, motional resistance of 2 kiloohms. and power dissipation of 16 µW for a polarization of 5 V the latest prototypes show the potential of such an approach

Full textSolvent nanofiltration is a potential technology to recover solvents. For this application, a chemically stable membrane that can endure continuous exposure towards organic solvents is required. This thesis deals with the preparation of chemically stable NF membranes through modification of mesoporous ceramic substrate by means of grafting and studying of their solvent and solute transport properties. In Chapter 1, the background of the grafting technique as well as studies on the SRNF transport behavior found in the literature was presented. In Chapter 2 and 6 of this thesis, mesoporous y-alumina UF membranes were grafted by hydrophobic and hydrophilic organic moieties to decrease the membrane pore diameter of the existing y-alumina UF membrane down to the nanofiltration range. In Chapter 5, the use of coupling agent to couple the grafted moiety forming a polymer network inside the ceramic pores during grafting results in a smaller membrane pore, but at the cost of a lower solvent permeability, when compared with PDMS-grafted alumina membranes where no coupling was applied. In Chapter 6, the grafting performance of γ-Al2O3 powder with various PEG grafting agents having different molecular weights, alkoxy groups, and ureido functionalities were analysed by TGA, 29Si-NMR, FTIR, and BET. The grafting densities are influenced by the molecular weights, the presence of the ureido functionality, and the number of hydrolyzable groups of the grafting agents. The transport behavior of PDMS grafted ceramic membranes and PEG grafted ceramic membranes were studied in Chapter 3, 4, and 6. In Chapter 3, the solvent transport behavior of PDMS grafted ceramic membranes was described by incorporating solvent sorption terms in the Hagen-Pouiseuille equation. A more closed membrane structure is realized when the solvent is strongly sorbed in the grafted moiety. In Chapter 4, the applicability of the existing solute rejection models based on size-exclusion mechanism to describe the solute rejection of membranes towards different types of solvent and solute were assessed. A strong function of rejection behavior with the ratio of the solute diameter versus the membrane pore diameter was observed, indicating that the size-exclusion mechanism may be applicable. Three rejection models based on size-exclusion, namely the Ferry, Verniory, and SHP models were used to predict the rejection of several solutes using pore diameter information from the N2 physisorption measurement when no solvent is present. For dye, PS, and PEG solutes in toluene, the experimental data fall well above the predicted σ for Ferry, Verniory, and SHP model suggesting that the membrane actual pore diameter in the presence of strongly sorbed solvent like toluene is smaller than that when no solvent is present, assuming that there is no important solvent-solute or solute-membrane interaction present in the observed rejection behavior. This may explain the higher rejection of solutes in nonpolar solvents like toluene than that in polar solvents such as isopropanol for PDMS grafted ceramic membranes. In Chapter 6, the permeability behavior of PEG grafted y-alumina membranes with respect to different types of permeating solvent (polar and nonpolar) was studied. A linear relationship between flux and TMP was observed, as was also found for PDMS grafted y-Al2O3 membranes. This indicates the absence of shear-flow induced behaviour in the applied TMP. A higher selectivity of Sudan Black in ethanol than in hexane accompanied by a lower permeability of ethanol than hexane were observed. Here also this phenomenon is explained by the difference in solvent sorption of the grafted moiety for different types of permeating solvents. Finally, the general conclusions and future work are presented in Chapter 7

Full textNXP Semiconductors (Caen, France) planed to invest in TFEAR project involving industrialization of low cost, integrable and tunable RF MEMS resonator, based on a laboratory process using piezoelectric properties of AlN. This resonator should replace quartz resonator due to its compactness. The resonance frequency can be easily tuned by changing the photolithographic masks because the resonator works in the extensional mode. It is made up of aluminum based AlSiCu that is standard electrodes in industrial process and piezoelectric AlN, both prepared by DC magnetron sputtering. Exploring the deposition conditions of layers forming the resonator allowed d33,f coefficient of 2 pm. V-1 (for a theoretical maximum of 3. 93 pm. V-1). At the same time, adaptation of the process to industrial tools required feasibility study. The poor etching selectivity between aluminum and AlN during etching of AlN was found to be the main difficulty. However, electrical characterizations of resonators showed the industrial feasibility of such a project since quality factor of 1400 and motional resistance less than 1 kΩ were measured, for resonance frequencies between 15 and 20 MHz. The closing down of NXP Semiconductors factory of Caen diverted part of the PhD work into more microstructural characterizations in laboratory. This allows the more detailed study of relationship between d33,f coefficient and AlSiCu crystalline quality, as well as AlN crystallite sizes and stress (shear) in AlN layers

Full textThe mobile connected devices have a prominent place in our everyday life but energy autonomy is limited. Thus, the development of efficient and miniaturized energy storage devices is an expanding field. The performance of these systems depends on the used electrode materials and the electrolyte. This thesis is focused on the fabrication of micro-supercapacitors with interdigitated electrodes composed of sputtered vanadium nitride (VN) thin films. The modulation of the deposition parameters allows densifying the thin films in order to increase their electrical conductivity or, on the contrary, leads to the synthesis of porous thin films to increase the surface capacitance. X-ray absorption spectroscopy of VN thin films tested in aqueous KOH in operando configuration coupled with surfaces analyses (XPS/ ToF-SIMS) show that the high capacitance of the VN is due to the presence of thin layer of vanadium oxide at the VN surface. Micro-supercapacitors reporting state-of-art performance in interdigitated or face/face topologies were fabricated using optimized VN films: the film thickness was varied to increase the energy density. The Atomic Layer Deposition of VN layers was also achieved in the frame of this study in order to ensure the formation of thin layers on high specific surface area 3D substrates. Finally, different ionic liquids have been tested as electrolyte, the purpose being solid electrolyte formation based on ionogels technology

Full textThis work deals with the technological development of miniaturized micro- (10 µm) and milli- (1 mm) fluidic tools for in-situ investigations of frontal filtration processes, in collaboration with Solvay. The tools that we developed, make it possible to monitor visually the formation of the filter cake, operating at constant-pressure or constant-flow rate filtration, on various colloidal suspensions, and up to trans-membrane pressures of 7 bars.We performed a millifluidic study of the filtration of industrial silica colloidal dispersions (Solvay, Silica), and we evidenced the growth of compressible cakes. We correlated these data to the pressure signals obtained at imposed flow rates. The comparison with theoretical predictions given by the classical laws of cake filtration theory, shows that such conventional models cannot reproduce the observed behaviors. The second part of this thesis reports the development of high pressure-resistive (several bars) microfluidic tools integrating nano-porous hydrogel-based membranes. These membranes are fabricated in situ by photo-polymerization of aqueous formulations containing PEG-diacrylates and porogen agents. We reported precise characterizations of their permeability in function of several parameters (formulation, exposure time, geometry). The same membranes were used to monitor frontal filtration of nanoparticles at the microfluidic scale, and thus to quantitatively estimate the permeability of the formed cakes

Full textThis work focuses on the study of silicon nanowires made by a top-down approach. The context of the study is the miniaturisation of the components and the understanding of the transport in 1D systems. Two fabrication approaches are studied : AFM lithography (Atomic Force Microscope) and e-beam lithography. The latter being more reproducible, the final devices are fabricated by this technique using a SOI substrate and multiple steps of etching and metallization.Transport characterization of the Si nanowires allows us to highlight a depleted area at the interface Si/native SiO2. Using nanowires with different widths and lengths, we can determine the depletion width, the surface state density as well as the doping level of the nanowires. The evolution of the nanowires resistance with temperature is also investigated, showing a dependence associated with surface phonons scattering. In the last chapter, three applications are described : a decoder, a current switch and a biosensor. The use of a local etching allows the modulation of the conduction band of the nanowires, opening the way to build a decoder using two local gates. Crossbar structures, where lateral gates which can derive the current in the di_erent branches, lead to the fabrication of a current switch. Finally, thanks to the large surface to volume ratio in these structures, the nanowires are used to detect electrically the interactions between molecules (ovalbumine detection)

Full textThe use of two-phase solid-liquid secondary refrigerants (ice-slurries) is an interesting solution for the refrigerating industry, which has to integrate new norms of safety and environmental aspects. However, the dispersed solid phase generator remains expensive and difficult to use. In this work, we study two direct-contact heat transfer methods, which could lead to an economic and optimal ice-slurry technology. These methods are vacuum evaporation and direct injection. This work deals with different aspects related to the sizing of this type of generators. Solid-liquid-vapour equilibria are required for vacuum cooling applications. We evaluated both theoretically and experimentally the ice-liquid-vapour equilibria for aqueous solutions whose use is considered in ice-slurry systems. Moreover, we propose an introduction to the estimation of vacuum evaporation mass flow rate. Regarding direct injection, an important bibliographic review is presented on the evaporation of one fluid in an immiscible medium. We compare this review with our experimental results on direct contact evaporation. This comparison leads to the construction of a simplified model of the evaporation. This comparison leads to the construction of a simplified model of the evaporator. Finally, some results obtained with a direct injection experimental facility are presented
