Abstract:
This article discusses how Harbin Boiler Co. Ltd (HBC) has incorporated the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code to ensure that the research, manufacturing, and servicing behind its products are in line with the international standard. HBC got to know ASME Codes in the early 1980s. In 1987, HBC became the first manufacturer of utility boilers in China to obtain ASME Authorization Certificates and Code stamps S (power boilers), U (pressure vessels), and Ш (alternative rules for pressure vessels). HBC obtained the National Board Authorization Certificate and Code stamp R (repair and alteration of boilers) in 1996. In 2004, HBC completed manufacturing the first product project with the U stamp – 24 oil tanks and gas tanks for the Three Gorges Zuoan Power Plant. During the course of obtaining ASME certificates and Code stamps, HBC also enhanced its design capability and manufacturing level, promoted its technology and management levels, further improved its quality and management system, and greatly strengthened its comprehensive competitiveness in the market.

Hiett, Elmer D. (Elmer Donald). "A State-Wide Survey on the Utilization of Instructional Technology by Public School Districts in Texas." Thesis, University of North Texas, 1990. https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc331657/.

Full text
Abstract:
Effective utilization of instructional technology can provide a valuable method for the delivery of a school program, and enable a teacher to individualize according to student needs. Implementation of such a program is costly and requires careful planning and adequate staff development for school personnel. This study examined the degree of commitment by Texas school districts to the use of the latest technologies in their efforts to revolutionize education. Quantitative data were collected by using a survey that included five informational areas: (1) school district background, (2) funding for budget, (3) staff, (4) technology hardware, and (5) staff development. The study included 137 school districts representing the 5 University Interscholastic League (UIL) classifications (A through AAAAA). The survey was mailed to the school superintendents requesting that the persons most familiar with instructional technology be responsible for completing the questionnaires. Analysis of data examined the relationship between UIL classification and the amount of money expended on instructional technology. Correlation coefficients were determined between teachers receiving training in the use of technology and total personnel assigned to technology positions. Coefficients were calculated between a district providing a plan fortechnology and employment of a coordinator for instructional technology. Significance was established at the .05 level. A significant relationship was determined between the total district budget and the amount of money allocated to instructional technology. There was a significant relationship between the number of teachers receiving training in technology and the number of personnel assigned to technology positions. A significant negative relationship was determined between the district having a long-range plan for technology and the employment of a full-time coordinator for one of the subgroups. An attempt was made to provide information concerning the effort by local school districts to provide technology for instructional purposes. Progress has been made, although additional funds will be required in order to realize the full potential of all technologies.

Siljebo, Josef. "The difficulties of the few and the challenges of the many : Understanding the use of integrated digital technologies in schools with activity theory." Thesis, Umeå universitet, Pedagogiska institutionen, 2015. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:umu:diva-105018.

Full text
Abstract:
The outset of the thesis was in answer to an underdevelopment in the research on integrated digital technologies in schools. The purpose of the thesis was to understand the activity system of using an integrated digital technology in a municipality’s school organization. The research questions regarded different perceptions between organizational levels, as well as contradictions in the activity system and the consequences of these contradictions. A qualitative approach was chosen, where interviews were conducted with seven personnel in the municipal school organization, both principals and development workers. In analyzes, an activity theoretical approach was used to expand the understanding of the activity system. Main findings included a detailed representation of perceptions of informants, as well as contradictions in the activity system. The contradictions were related to many components of the activity system with varying consequences to both organization and individual. Specifically, findings indicate that integrated digital technologies require certain institutional assumptions, and many difficulties and challenges are related to the intent of having many stakeholders of school organizations interacting in the same integrated technology.

Abstract:
The aim of this research project was to find out why the employees in the Middle East region, as a part of a large global company, did not use a project tracking information system. The research was conducted with a mixed method, starting with a qualitative study in order to gain an understanding of the problem and the current setting. Thereafter, hypotheses were tested with an e-survey sent out to the entire user group, which were around 350 persons. The outcome of the survey was surprisingly that the hypotheses, which were based on the United Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT), were rejected. The findings in this study showed that if the user experiences a relative advantage with the system it has a positive effect on use as well as good data quality. This study has found that the opinions of colleagues and managers play a role on use and also the lack of integration. This research will serve as a base for future studies to investigate how the system is used and how it supports the business process. Furthermore, these findings contribute to the criticism on Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and its successor.

Gagliano, Onelia. "Development of a "lab on a chip" platform for studying the control of the circadian clock by metabolic cycles." Doctoral thesis, Università degli studi di Padova, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/11577/3424139.

Full text
Abstract:
The aim of the thesis is developing an in vitro model that resembles the cyclic dynamic fluctuations that can be correlated to the pertinent biological networks for dissecting the effects the metabolism on circadian clock. The circadian rhythms are an adaptation to the evolutionarily conserved environment, because they allow to coordinate temporally external environmental cycles (eg. light/ dark) with internal biological and physiological processes (eg. sleep/ wake). Forced misalignment of behavioral and circadian cycles in human subjects, have been associated with increased prevalence of obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease, in addition to certain cancers and inflammatory disorders. The potential of the microfluidic approach allows dynamic study on circadian behavior of peripheral tissues, opening a new perspective in circadian field.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The technologies of Precision Agriculture - PA - are already a reality in crops throughout Brazil, using more and more productive techniques, crucial to ensure the country as the world leader in agriculture. However, there are not yet studies on the intensity of the use of PA technologies in Brazil and the determiners of their adoption. The main focus of this study was, therefore, to investigate the adoption process and the use of PA technologies in the sugarcane industry in São Paulo state. For that purpose, it was used primary data based upon a questionnaire submitted to all enterprises of the sugarcane sector in the state, aiming to figure out not only the adoption level and use of PA technologies in the sugarcane industry, but also to deepen the discussion about Precision Agriculture, obtaining therefore, more information regarding the characteristics of the enterprises, sources of information for the adoption of PA, the impact of PA technologies on the enterprise and the obstacles faced by the PA practices. In parallel, the econometric model logit was estimated to verify the influence of the variables studied on the probability for the adoption of the PA technologies. The main conclusions of this study suggest that the adoption for these technologies bring results to enterprises, such as improvement of management procedures, increase of productive, cost reduction, minimization of environmental impacts and improvement of sugarcane quality. The econometric analysis showed that the probability to adopt PA technologies is higher in decrescent order of importance in mills/distilleries of national capital, which are part of an export-driven group, of professional management and that use higher percentage of their own resources.

Jennings, Eliot A. "User Acceptance of Technology: an Empirical Examination of Factors Leading to Adoption of Decision Support Technologies for Emergency Management." Thesis, University of North Texas, 2013. https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc500162/.

Full text
Abstract:
This study examines factors that influence the intent to use and actual use of decision support software (DSS) technology by emergency management officials to facilitate disaster response management. The unified theory of acceptance and use of technology popularized by scholars from the field of information sciences (IS) for the private sector is adapted and extended to examine technology use in the public sector, specifically by emergency managers. An e-survey was sent to 1, 452 city and county emergency management officials from FEMA region VI and complete responses obtained from 194 were analyzed. Findings suggest that social influence is the strongest predictor of intent to use DSS technology by emergency managers, unlike private sector studies where performance expectancy was the strongest predictor. Additionally, effort expectancy, collaboration, social vulnerability, professionalism, performance expectancy, and gender explained 40 percent of their intent to use DSS technology. Factors explaining actual use of technology were intent to use technology, having an in house GIS specialist, and age of the emergency manager. This research successfully closes the gap in IS and disaster literature by being the first to focus on factors influencing technology use by emergency managers for decision making in disaster response. It underscores the importance of collaboration not only for post-disaster activities but also as a precursor to better disaster preparedness planning that calls for information sharing and technology acceptance and adoption across partnering jurisdictions.
