Full textThe work of this thesis is the study of microwave power GaN technology amplification. In this, a brief description of the main properties of this material is made to justify the choice of a particular candidate for microwave power applications. The next step was to characterize and extract the non-linear model of a GaN transistor. This model served as a basic unit for the simulation of an amplifier and a polarization modulator. The combination of these two functions has allowed us to apply and study the Envelope Tracking principle at L-band and some of the main characteristics of this amplification technique have been shown. In a second step, an experimental validation at S band has been done by using a built-in GaN amplifier and a laboratory test-Bench. The efficiency improvement of the RF power amplifier is observed by this technique and linearization is necessary to improve the linearity

Full textThis Master’s thesis presents two development projects about algorithms and software tools providing practical solutions to commonly faced situations in rehabilitation context. The first project is the development of a sequence matching algorithm that can be integrated to the most commonly used control interfaces. The implementation of this algorithm provides a flexible solution that can be adapted to any assistive technology user. The control of such devices represents a challenge since their dimensionality is high (i.e., many degrees of freedom, modes, commands) and they are controlled with interfaces based on low-dimensionality sensors. Thus, the number of actual physical commands that the user can perform is low. The proposed algorithm is based on short time signals that can be organized into sequences. The multiple possible combinations then contribute to increasing the dimensionality of the interface. Two applications of the algorithm have been developed and tested. The first is a sip-and-puff control interface for a robotic assistive arm and the second is a hand gesture interface for the control of a computer’s mouse and keyboard. The second project presented in this document addresses the issue of collecting and analyzing data. In a rehabilitation’s clinical or laboratory environment, or at home, there are many situations that require gathering data. The proposed solution to this issue is a connected applications ecosystem that includes a web server and mobile, web and embedded applications. This custom-made software offers a unique, inexpensive, lightweight and fast workflow to visualize and retrieve data. The following document describes a first version by elaborating on the architecture, the technologies used, the reasons for those choices, and guide the next iterations.

Full textThis work is a research in the Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing ( CAD-CAM ) field. The aim of this research is to develop a model of tolerancing for rotational parts, according with the Concurrent Engineering concepts. The first part of this work describes the base of mechanical design with features and presents a bibliographic study about the automatic process planning generation. Our contribution is specifically based on the manufacturing problems, especially of the problems of manufacturing tolerancing. The model we propose is an extension of the "Delta L" method, initially proposed by P. Bourdet. We will study the 2D problems instead of only the 1 D problems. Our model is defined in the form of 4 couples of values to qualify the turning process. A geometry of a test part is defined, and an experimental procedure is developed. Software development completes this work. An application is proposed in example. The results of the simulation are compared with the results obtained on a real lathe. The comparison is good, and the majority of the dimensions of the machined parts are in the interval of tolerance calculated by the simulation. The perspectives are then started on. For an always reliable simulation, the events modifying the physics of the system should be taken into account dynamically. The simplicity of the proposed method is the guarantee of the possibilities of evolution and integration of this model, according with the concurrent engineering concepts

Full textThe concrete mixing corresponds to the stage of the manufacturing process which consists in homogeneously distributing and wetting (structuring) all the components present in the mixer. Parameters influencing the mixing are still relatively uncontrolled while the properties of concrete are strongly related. After a literature review, a database provided by a central ready-mix concrete plant is analyzed to identify the factors affecting the properties of concrete produced industrially. Then, a first experimental study aims to better understand the degradation of the recycled concrete aggregates during the mixing of new concretes, depending on certain parameters such as mixing speed and time, type of agitation, resistance to abrasion of aggregates ... Finally, a second experimental study brings new elements to the understanding of the mixing evolution in function of process parameters (time and speed of mixing, temperature) and formulations (water dosage, dosage and gravel type). In this context, an innovative image analysis technique allowing on-line monitoring of the concrete mixing evolution has been developed. The technique has thus been validated on laboratory scale and on real scale

Full textNowadays, image processing remains a very important step in different fields of applications. In an indoor environment, for a navigation system related to a mobile robot (electrical wheelchair), visual information detection and tracking is crucial to perform robotic tasks (localization, planning…). In particular, when considering passing door task, it is essential to be able to detect and track automatically all the doors that belong to the environment. Door detection is not an obvious task: the variations related to the door status (open or closed), their appearance (e.g. same color as the walls) and their relative position to the camera have influence on the results. On the other hand, tasks such as the detection of navigable areas or obstacle avoidance may involve a dedicated semantic representation to interpret the content of the scene. Segmentation techniques are then used to extract pseudosemantic regions based on several criteria (color, gradient, texture...). When adding the temporal dimension, the regions are tracked then using spatiotemporal segmentation algorithms. In this thesis, we first present joint door detection and tracking technique in a corridor environment: based on dedicated geometrical features, the proposed solution offers interesting results. Then, we present an original joint hierarchical and multiresolution segmentation framework able to extract a pseudo-semantic region representation. Finally, this technique is extended to video sequences to allow the tracking of regions along image sequences. Based on contour motion extraction, this solution has shown relevant results that can be successfully applied to corridor videos

Full textThe oxide scale growth in high temperature oxidation leads to generation of stresses in the oxide/metal system. It could be responsible of the damage of this oxide film causing the loss of its protective character toward the metallic substrate. The study is based on the Deflection Test in Monofacial Oxidation (DTMO) of Zr/ZrO2 system: the protection of one face of a thin foil creates a stress asymmetry. It leads to the sample curvature on the oxide scale side due to internal high compressive stresses on it. A test campaign is held as a reference for a comparison with an elasto-viscoplastic semi-analytical model describing the DTMO in isotherm. This model considers the different deformations affecting the metal/oxide system (notably creep and chemical deformations). The identified material parameters are then used in symmetric oxidation models which represent real application cases for stress field determination. These predictions are confronted to microstructure observations and to an analysis of the damage in zirconia scale. The breakaway phenomenon linked to damage initiation in the oxide scale is highlighted with an experimental multi-technical analysis. With an acoustic emission monitoring, we identify clusters of signals linked to the different oxidation kinetics regimes and with thermogravimertry, two tendencies at breakaway are observed and are differentiated afterward with different behaviours at spalling

Full textA fully static set up allowing in situ observation of the growth of functionnal oxides grown by pulsed laser deposition, is presented. Through the study of two model systems, those are the growth of thin films of La₀. ₆₇Sr₀. ₃₃LMnO₃ on pseudo-substrate of SrTiO₃/Si and thin layers of SrRuO₃ grown on vicinal substrate of SrTiO₃, the proposed instrumentation permit to achieve a precision about one unit cell (4Å) on thickness measurments, to extract physical parameters of the diffusion of species on the surface (activation energy of diffusion), but also observing and identifying growth modes. These results are in good agreement with the numerical simulation developped, based on the treatment of the reflectivity of multi-layers systems combined with effective medium theory

Full textFaces are important for social interactions as they convey important information about social environment. Impairment in social interactions is one of the core symptoms of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and has been related to atypical face processing. Here, we investigated face processing in preschool children with ASD using eye-tracking methodology. In the first study, we showed that young children with ASD, just like typically developing children are sensitive to face-like objects suggesting that processing first order configuration is intact in ASD. According to these results, the nature of facial representation might be qualitatively similar between groups. In the second study, we tested the presence of a left gaze bias in response to faces presented at central vision. A lack of left gaze bias was found in young children with ASD, reflecting atypical right hemispheric lateralization for face processing. Finally, the third study analyzed the visual scanning of static faces and showed an abnormal exploration pattern limited to the eyes. Overall, these studies argue for the presence of configural face processing in preschoolers with ASD despite differences in strategy from typically developing children. Futures studies will have to specify the mechanisms underlying atypical configural face processing in ASD

Speciation technique gas chromatography - pulsed flame photometric detection (GC-PFPD) was optimised. This technique offers a number of significant improvements : increased sensitivity, greater selectivity, high reliability and reduced the costs of the analysis. Monitoring programs performed showed a contamination background irrespective of the water considered. Concentrations at alarming levels were also measured, showing resistance of these compounds and regular monitoring is necessary. Preliminary sorption study of these compounds on sewage sludge was carried out, illustrating their high ability to adsorb on the sludge

Full textThis study seeks to shed the light on the role of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) as a management tool adopted by multinational corporations in their monitoring of the headquarters/ subsidiary performance. We have opted for a deductive approach, focusing on multinational corporations whose subsidiaries are based in Morocco and which are endowed with the ERP tool. To meet this end, we have carried out both a qualitative and a quantitative study. Qualitatively, the six semi directive interviews conducted with the subsidiaries management fit in harmoniously with the items that figure in our questionnaire, submitted to 104 subsidiaries in the framework of a quantitative study. We have found out that even if subsidiaries benefit from autonomy as far as management is concerned, the headquarters still impose the strategic vision and intervene at how ERP must be implemented. Indeed, ERP acts positively on the headquarters/subsidiary relationship by rendering data even, making coordination fluid and facilitating budget control and goals follow- up. Other merits that the ERP tool offers include: time saving, ease of use, tracking, availability and easy data exchange. Nevertheless, ERP has not been fully utilized due to the difficulty of matching its features. Basically, head offices make use of ERP in evaluating financial performance, namely reporting sales and inventory management. Otherwise, it remains less operational

Full textIn order to validate the numerical simulation of the mixing phenomena downstream a spacer grid in the reactor core, reaching the 3rd velocity component through experimental studies is of major importance since mechanical structures responses are linked to transverse velocities. Nevertheless the main difficulty relies on applying a non-intrusive velocimetry technique around obstacles composed of a vertical set of rods. So far only 1D and 2D temporal studies have been performed.Hence, numerical methods have been widely used to predict correctly those transverse velocities and the turbulence level downstream the grid. However, CFD codes are to be validated with experimental measurements leading to a better understanding of the detailed flow structure in the mixing process. Therefore we propose to present in this study the application of a 3D time resolved velocity measurement technique to a hydraulic test facility. The approach is to use a tracking strategy, in which individual particles are first detected then followed in time - 3D time resolved Particle Tracking Velocimetry. This PhD Thesis presents results obtained in a hydraulic test section using a tracking based approach with two cameras. At first, a new extension of the defocussing technique to recover particles location in time with one camera is presented and the methodology o get individual velocity vector is then described. Applications and validations of the technique in dedicated flows allow to determinate and quantify measurement uncertainties. Then the hydraulic test section is introduced together with preliminary flow characterization using Laser Doppler Velocimetry or 2D time resolved PIV analysis. Finally, two cameras measurements are reported and post-processing techniques are discussed
Nasser-Barakat, Fatima. "Automatic modal variation tracking via a filter-free random decrement technique application to ambient vibration recordings on high-rise buildings." Thesis, Université Grenoble Alpes (ComUE), 2015. http://www.theses.fr/2015GREAT044/document.
Full textThis thesis proposes a novel approach to automatically monitor the variationsof the frequencies and the damping ratios of actual high-rise buildings subjected to realworldambient vibrations. The approach aims at dealing simultaneously with the followingchallenges: multi-component signals recorded over the aforementioned buildings and havingclosely-spaced frequency modes with low, exponential and damped amplitudes of theirimpulse responses and contaminated with high additive noises. The approach relies on theapplication of the Random Decrement Technique directly over the multi-component signalunder study which leads to the extraction of a Multi-mode Random Decrement Signatureequivalent to the system impulse response. To characterize such a signature, we propose asignal model based on the physical structure of the building from where the modal parameterscan be estimated. For the purpose of non-biased modal estimate, we propose to usean iterative method based on a Maximum-Likelihood Estimation optimized by a simulatedannealing technique. In order to initialize the parameters of the latter, a first step is designedwhich can be considered as an independent estimator of the modal parameters. Theoriginality of this step lies in its ability to automatically define the number of modes of theestimated signature through the use of the statistical properties of a Welch spectrum. Themodal parameters estimated by the spectral-based initialization step are finally refined bythe Maximum-Likelihood Estimation step. The latter reduces the bias in the estimation andyields more reliable and robust results. All these steps are defined in order to be able to automaticallymonitor the health of a building via a long-term real-time tracking of the modalvariations over time without the need to any user intervention . In addition, the proposedapproach has paid very special attention to the automatic estimation of the most problematicmodal parameter, i.e., the damping ratio. Such features making two of the original featuresas compared to existing techniques. The adaptability and functionality of AMBA is validatedover six actual buildings excited by real-world ambient vibrations. From the obtained results,AMBA proved high efficiency in automatically estimating the frequencies and moreover thedamping ratios in case of closely-spaced frequency modes and very low signal-to-noise ratiolevel. AMBA as well demonstrated a good performance for tracking the modal variationsover time

The work has established on healthy patients, the features of typical maturation of visual exploration during face scanning, which was due to an expertise mechanism. A deterioration of appropriate gaze exploration was observed in subjects with autism. This study revealed that the perception was not influenced by emotional expression but instead induced a pattern of activation of each emotion in healthy subjects. Indeed, a different pattern of activation was observed for each type of emotion. These observations suggest that the perception of emotion would appeal to mechanisms mirrors. In subjects with autism, most of the areas normally involved in the treatment of these emotions are not activated
