Abstract. Plant hydraulics gains increasing interest in plant ecophysiology and vegetation modeling. However, the hydraulic properties and profiles are often improperly represented, thus leading to biased results and simulations, e.g., the neglection of gravitational pressure drop results in overestimated water flux. We highlight the commonly seen ambiguities and/or misunderstandings in plant hydraulics, including (1) the distinction between water potential and pressure, (2) differences among hydraulic conductance and conductivity, (3) xylem vulnerability curve formulations, (4) model complexity, (5) stomatal-model representations, (6) bias from analytic estimations, (7) whole-plant vulnerability, and (8) neglected temperature dependencies. We recommend careful thinking before using or modifying existing definitions, methods, and models.

Emergency operating procedures (EOPs) in nuclear plants guide operators in handling significant process disturbances. Historically these procedures have been paper-based. More recently, computer-based procedure (CBP) systems have been developed to improve the usability of EOPs. The objective of this study was to establish human factors review guidance for CBP systems based on a technically valid methodology. First, a characterization of CBPs was developed for describing their key design features, including both procedure representation and functionality. Then, the research on CBPs and related areas was reviewed. This information provided the technical basis on which the guidelines were developed. For some aspects of CBPs the technical basis was insufficient to develop guidance; these aspects were identified as issues to be addressed in future research.

Abstract:
The decline in national sugar cane production from 2015 amounted to 2.4 million tons and in 2016 amounted to 2.2 million tons. One of the reason for the decline in sugar cane production is the proportion of Ratoon Cane (RC) which is relatively high compared to Plant Cane (PC). The objective of the study is to analyze the technical efficiency of farming between plant cane (PC) and ratoon cane (RC). The method used in sampling farmer households is purposive by considering there is no sampling frame available in the study area. Data analysis method using the stochastic frontier production function model. The results showed that the plant cane farming (PC) was more technically efficient than ratoon cane (RC) with an average value of PC sugarcane technical efficiency of 93 percent and an average sugarcane technical efficiency of RS by 89 percent.

The fulfilment of the subject of the Act No. 76/2002 Dig. on integrated prevention reduces energy consumption and increases hygienic safety of a thermal treatment of animal tissues at veterinary decontamination institutes. By making use of a back supply of heated rendering-plant fat to the continuous disc drier KDS 250 the so-called fritting effect is induced speeding up the evaporation of residual water and reducing the redrying time of the meat and bone paste. An analysis proved a reduced consumption of specific energy, whereby the demand for the best available technique (BAT) is met.

On behalf of itself and BHP-B, Esso operates offshore production platforms in Bass Strait, a crude stabilisation and gas processing plant at Longford and a LPG fractionation plant at Long Island Point, Victoria. The Technical Surveillance Program for these facilities is implemented at both the Operator and Engineering levels. The program has been enhanced by building on existing DCS process control and process information (PI) systems and through development of a more structured engineering monitoring system. The enhanced program continues to register tangible benefits in integrity, product quality, recovery, efficiency and reliability and capacity.At the operator level, the process is monitored continuously, assisted by process alarms to maintain the plant within the normal desirable operating zone. Safe operating limits define the outside boundary of the safe operating envelope which is secured with shutdown and other automatic protective devices. Alarm and limit conditions associated with these parameters have been incorporated into the DCS control system with pre-defined operator responses appearing automatically on the screen if the condition is reached.At the engineering level, the surveillance program is a systematic periodic monitoring process focussing on optimum performance and continuous improvement. It is structured using the elements of a management system. Within this framework, engineering spreadsheets have been developed with direct links to process data via process information system software. The spreadsheets assist plant engineers to efficiently monitor the key performance variables; they also pre-define the acceptable operating range, calculate statistical performance, highlight deviations and hyperlink back to the PI system for more detailed troubleshooting. Day-today deviations and performance improvements are fed back and reviewed at the working level, more significant issues are formally investigated and reviewed with management. Key data and overall performance is summarised monthly, and formally reviewed by plant and engineering management.

Abstract:
This article off ers a method and technical solutions for using vegetable oil fuel as fuel for a diesel engine. The use of rapeseed as a fuel is hindered by its peculiarity, namely, the main problem is the high viscosity and high self-ignition temperature relative to diesel fuel. The authors propose technical solutions that ensure the use of vegetable oil fuel as a motor fuel in diesel engines. For research purposes, a two-fuel system was developed, manufactured and tested, which allows working part of the time on diesel fuel and part of the time on vegetable oil, in particular on rapeseed oil, depending on the engine operating modes. Experiments have shown high effi ciency of the two-fuel system, which excludes negative consequences for the diesel engine. As a result of the research, the team of authors obtained results and conclusions confirming that the dual fuel system allows the use of vegetable oils as motor fuel in diesel engines, while the engine operation is possible in all modes.

Abstract:
This study analyzes the factors influencing gambier productivity, analyzes the technical efficiency of gambier farming, and analyzes the factors affecting gambier farming's technical efficiency. This research was conducted in Lima Puluh Kota Regency, a gambier production center in West Sumatra. Data were analyzed using the Cobb Douglas stochastic frontier production function. The results showed that the factors that significantly influenced gambier's productivity were labor, NPK fertilizer, plant age, number of trees, varieties, and technology. The number of labor, fertilizer factor, plant age, number of trees, and seedling varieties had a positive effect on gambier productivity. In contrast, NPK fertilizer and technology had a negative impact on gambier productivity. The technical efficiency level of gambier farming started from 0.25 to 0.99 with an average level of 0.76. It means that farmers are technically efficient but can still increase gambier productivity if they use production inputs appropriately and adequately. Factors that significantly influence technical efficiency are age, farming experience, and technology. Older farmers will have a higher level of technical efficiency compared to young age. The lower the farming experience, the more technically efficient the farmer is. Farmers who use the hydraulic jack system technology are more efficient than farmers who use the jack system technology

The production of micropropagated plants in plant-tissue-culture laboratories and nurseries is the most important method for propagation of many economic plants. Micropropagation based on tissue-culture technology involves large-scale propagation, as it allows multiplication of a huge number of true-to-type propagules in a very short time and in a very limited space, as well as all year round, regardless of the climate. However, applying plant-tissue-culture techniques for the commercial propagation of plants may face a lot of obstacles or troubles that could result from technical, biological, physiological, and/or genetical reasons, or due to overproduction or the lack of facilities and professional technicians, as shown in the current study. Moreover, several disorders and abnormalities are discussed in the present review. This study aims to show the most serious problems and obstacles of plant micropropagation, and their solutions from both scientific and technical sides. This review, as a first report, includes different challenges in plant micropropagation (i.e., contamination, delay of subculture, burned plantlets, browning, in vitro rooting difficulty, somaclonal variations, hyperhydricity, shoot tip necrosis, albino plantlets, recalcitrance, shoot abnormalities, in vitro habituation) in one paper. Most of these problems are related to scientific and/or technical reasons, and they could be avoided by following the micropropagation protocol suitable for each plant species. The others are dominant in plant-tissue-culture laboratories, in which facilities are often incomplete, or due to poor infrastructure and scarce funds.

Abstract:
The feasibility study is one of the principal documents in building a hydropower plant consisting of technical, economic, and financial aspects. Contained technical studies on civil, mechanical, and electrical. This requires data on hydrologic, geology, land contours, river discharge, water catchment areas, and so on. Economic and financial studies include cost and financial parameters such as; BEP, IRR, NVP, BCR, and others. The installed capacity of a hydropower plant is given in optimization based on the Flow Duration Curve (FDC) and the Capacity Factor (CF) used the Newton Interpolation Method. The results showed that the installed power capacity was 11.99 MW. The water discharge was 31.603 m3/secs and the effective head was 37.5 meters. Annual income is around IDR 103.026 billion. Finally, HPP Lubuak Gadang is technically, economically, and financially feasible, so it is feasible to carry out the next process.

Recent advances in light emitting diode (LED) technology have provided exciting opportunities for plant lighting applications, and it is expected that LED lighting will soon overtake the still common use of high-intensity discharge (HID) lighting technology. Because LED lighting offers novel capabilities, extensive research is needed to identify optimal lighting practices for the large number of crops grown by commercial greenhouse growers. Plant scientists and growers facing decisions about plant lighting systems do not always have sufficient information about lamp performance characteristics. In this paper, we reported on various technical performance characteristics for 18 lamp types commonly used for plant production, and compared these characteristics with the characteristics of sunlight. The results showed a substantial range of performance characteristics, highlighting the importance of a careful assessment before selecting a light source for horticultural applications. The data presented in this paper can be used to assess the suitability of a specific light source for a particular horticultural application.

Abstract:
The average productivity of rubber smallholder in Banyuasin Regency is 0,89 ton/ha lower than its potential productivity 1,5 ton/ha. This study aims to analyze the factors affecting rubber productivity, the level of technical efficiency and factors affecting technical inefficiency in rubber plantation at several group of plant age. The research used purposive sampling which obtained 60 samples of farmers as respondent and was conducted in Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatera Province from April to June 2020. Data were analyzed using stochastic frontier Cobb Douglas analysis. The results showed that factors affecting rubber productivity were TSP, Fungicide, Herbicide, labour, numbers of plant (tree), plant age and clone. The level of rubber smallholder technical efficiency showed the various amount from 0.50 to 0.97 with average level 0.87. The tensile strength, specific tensile strength, breaking force, tenacity and percent elongation of some fibres extracted from eight fibrous plants found in Northern Nigeria were determined with a view to ascertaining their suitability for the replacement of glass fibre in plastic composites. Also the crimp properties and work of rupture with the specific work of rupture for all the plant fibres were analysed. The fibrous plants were Sisal (Agave Sisalana) (ASA), Lalloh (Corchorus Triden L.) (CCR), Dargaza (Grewia Mollis Juss) (GRW), Kenaf (Hibiscus Cannabinus L.) (HCB), Goruba (Hyphaene Thebaica)(HYP), Sukuwa (Sida Acuta) (SDA), Karlgo (Piliostigma Thoningii) (PTA) and Shikuri Tuggah (Urena Lobata) (ULB). Their properties were compared with E-Glass. The results show that whereas the highest tensile strength of the plant fibre (ASB) was about one-third that of the glass fibre, the highest specific tensile strength of the plant fibre (HCB) was about 5 times that of the glass fibre. The percent elongation of the plant fibres except HYB and SDA were at least 5.6 times that of the glass fibre. The specific work of rupture for the plant fibre were also found to be upto 31% higher compared with that of glass. Three of the plant fibres, (HCB, ASA and ULB) were observed to be possible replacements for the classic glass fibre.

Solar plants suffer of partial shading and mismatch problems. Without considering the generation of hot spots and the resulting security issues, a monitoring system for the health of a PV plant should be useful to drive a dynamic reconfiguration system (DRS) to solve bottlenecks due to different panels’ shading. Over the years different DRS architectures have been proposed, but no suggestions about costs and benefits have been provided. Starting from technical subjects such as differences of the topologies driving the hardware complexity and number of components, this paper identifies the cost of DRS and its lifetime, and based on these issues it provides an economic analysis for a 6 kWp PV plant in different European Union countries, in which the dissimilar incentive policies have been considered.

Abstract:
This paper describes the thermovision analysis conducted on two types of chimneys: structural steel one and reinforced concrete one located in Kielce Heat and Power Plant, Poland. As a result of the research temperature distribution obtained from the thermograms were shown on the diagrams and analysed along their horizontal direction. It proves, both of the chimneys that were examined are in proper technical condition. The article also discusses the importance of the analysis as a diagnostic tool that allows early-stage detection of structural technical conditions and thermal insulation degradation. A factory’s chimney should work constantly to maintain its operation, since modifications in the production line caused by construction works are high cost and usually difficult to implement. However, analyses are critical to ensure chimneys are well maintained. The literature presents many examples of destructive influence of high temperature on the reinforced concrete chimneys. When failure of chimneys occurs, even the whole plant unit may be closed down. Thermography is then an ideal, non-destructive and cost-effective instrument for structure testing and can therefore be a useful, initial step to locate potential damage.

CRISPR/Cas mediated genome editing is a revolutionary approach for manipulating the plant genome. However, the success of this technology is highly dependent on selection of a specific vector and the other components. A plant-specific CRISPR/Cas vector usually consists of a Cas gene, target-specific gRNA, leader sequence, selectable marker gene, precise promoters, and other accessories. It has always been challenging to select the specific vector for each study due to a lack of comprehensive information on CRISPR vectors in one place. Herein, we have discussed every technical aspect of various important elements that will be highly useful in vector selection and efficient editing of the desired plant genome. Various factors such as the promoter regulating the expression of Cas and gRNA, gRNA size, Cas variants, multicistronic gRNA, and vector backbone, etc. influence transformation and editing frequency. For example, the use of polycistronic tRNA-gRNA, and Csy4-gRNA has been documented to enhance the editing efficiency. Similarly, the selection of an efficient selectable marker is also a very important factor. Information on the availability of numerous variants of Cas endonucleases, such as Cas9, Cas12a, Cas12b, Casɸ, and CasMINI, etc., with diverse recognition specificities further broadens the scope of editing. The development of chimeric proteins such as Cas fused to cytosine or adenosine deaminase domain and modified reverse transcriptase using protein engineering enabled base and prime editing, respectively. In addition, the newly discovered Casɸ and CasMINI would increase the scope of genetic engineering in plants by being smaller Cas variants. All advancements would contribute to the development of various tools required for gene editing, targeted gene insertion, transcriptional activation/suppression, multiplexing, prime editing, base editing, and gene tagging. This review will serve as an encyclopedia for plant-specific CRISPR vectors and will be useful for researchers.

Abstract Technical due diligence as part of the bankability due diligence carried out by the bank for the minihydro power plant (MHPP) project which will be financed for its construction. This research is to determine important variables as the object of due diligence and to conduct technical due diligence based on the variables. The important variables as the object of due diligence were obtained from interviews with group of experts who have experience in the construction of MHPP. The results of the interviews were processed using the Relative Importance Index (RII) and the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method to determine the risk ranking/weight. The due diligence process is carried out on submitted project documents and onsite verification to three sample of MHPPs at West Sumatera Province, Indonesia. Based on the assesment to each variables to the sample MHPPs, we get result that one MHPP does not ready to be financed from a technical point of view.
