Abstract:
ABSTRACT The Tec1 and Tec2 transposons of the ciliate Euplotes crassus carry a gene for a tyrosine-type site-specific recombinase. The expression of the Tec2 gene apparently uses a programmed +1 frameshift. To test this hypothesis, we first examined whether this gene has evolved under purifying selection in Tec1 and Tec2. Each element carries three genes, and each has evolved under purifying selection for the function of its encoded protein, as evidenced by a dearth of nonsynonymous changes. This distortion of divergence is apparent in codons both 5′ and 3′ of the frameshift site. Thus, Tec2 transposons have diverged from each other while using a programmed +1 frameshift to produce recombinase, the function of which is under purifying selection. What might this function be? Tyrosine-type site-specific recombinases are extremely rare in eukaryotes, and Tec elements are the first known eukaryotic type II transposons to encode a site-specific recombinase. Tec elements also encode a widespread transposase. The Tec recombinase might function in transposition, resolve products of transposition (bacterial replicative transposons use recombinase or resolvase to separate joined replicons), or provide a function that benefits the ciliate host. Transposons in ciliated protozoa are removed from the macronucleus, and it has been proposed that the transposons provide this “excisase” activity.

Abstract:
Thermoelectric cooler (TEC) merupakan komponen penghasil listrik alternatif yang erat kaitannya dengan pemanfaatan panas atau kalor untuk menghasilkan energi listrik. Modul TEC memanfaatkan perbedaan suhu untuk menghasilkan energi listrik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui potensi pemanfaatan energi panas matahari pada batu andesit terhadap thermoelectric cooler tipe 12706 sebagai alternatif penghasil energi listrik tenaga surya. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode eksperimen laboratorium. Pegujian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui nilai arus dan tegangan yang dihasilkan TEC1-12706. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa media batu andesit dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai media untuk menyimpan panas, sehingga TEC dapat dibangkitkan menghasilkan listrik. Data yang peneliti peroleh ialah terdapat 3 hasil pengujian yaitu, pegujian TEC tanpa beban, pegujian TEC dengan beban resistor 100 ohm dan pengujian TEC dengan beban 250 ohm. Dari ketiga data pengujian tersebut bahwa perbedaan suhu dan tegangan yang dihasilkan TEC lebih optimal pada pengujian TEC tanpa beban yaitu menghasilkan tegangan sebesar 175 mV dan perbedaan suhu 8,1 °C selama penyinaran 30 menit.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Aim: The aim of the study is to evaluate and compare the effect of access cavity designs on the polymicrobial biofilm disinfection of root canal system. Methods: One hundred and twenty molar teeth were selected and randomly divided into four groups (n = 30) on the basis of access cavity design: traditional access cavity (TEC), contracted access cavity (CAC), truss access cavity (TAC), and caries-driven access cavity (CDAC). After access preparation, the samples were contaminated for 2 weeks to grow polymicrobial mature biofilm. Microbial sampling from the root canals was performed with sterile paper points before and after instrumentation to determine the bacterial load. The bacterial reduction was counted as CFU/ml and analyzed statistically. Results: Both maxillary and mandibular molars with different cavity designs showed significant decreased in the number of Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans postinstrumentation. TEC group showed significantly higher microbial reduction for all tested microorganisms than TAC and CDAC groups (P < 0.05). However, insignificant difference (P > 0.05) was observed between TEC and CAC and TAC and CDAC. Conclusion: In both maxillary and mandibular molars, complete elimination of microbes (E. faecalis, C. albicans, and S. aureus) could not be achieved with any access cavity design. Highest microbial reduction was achieved with TEC and lowest in CDAC. Both TEC and CAC resulted in equal microbial reduction and were superior to TAC and CDAC.

Nechama Tec urodziła się w 1931 r. w rodzinie Bawników, od kilku pokoleń mieszkającej w Lublinie. Ojciec Roman miał dwie nieduże fabryki, matka Estera zajmowała się domem. Nechamę już w dzieciństwie interesowali inni ludzie. Do- pytywała dlaczego, co i w jaki sposób robili. Jej ojciec uważał, że dzieci powinny wiedzieć jak najwięcej, również o coraz bardziej opresyjnej, wojennej rzeczy- wistości. Zdaniem Tec, to właśnie uratowało ją i jej siostrę, kiedy jako katoliczki w kolejnych domach ukrywały się z rodzicami lub od nich oddzielone. Cała czte- roosobowa rodzina Bawników przeżyła. W 1950 r. Nechama poślubiła Leona Teca, psychiatrę dziecięcego, a dwa lata później małżonkowie wyemigrowali do USA; tam urodziło się dwoje ich dzieci ...

Abstract:
In this study, we designed and fabricated of thermoelectric solid-state air conditioner (TESSAC) within 400 BTU/hour by using a thermoelectric cooling (TEC) module (model: TEC1-12710) for 3 modules. Thermal management was carried out with the aluminum water-to-radiator system through the liquid moly coolant for controlling the temperature on the hot side of the TEC module. The cooling performance and electrical power were measured during the operating system as performed in one cubic meter for 3 h. According to the experimental results, the TEC1-12710 of one module could be generated cooling by decreasing the temperature to -8.5oC. After useful TEC of 3 modules as useful TESSAC fabrication, TESSAC could be cooled at the cold side around 9.3°C, then the temperature at the center simulation room is around 27.5°C within the ambient temperature of 33.5°C. The coefficient of performance (COP) of TESSAC was calculated to be obtained around 5.5 with the AC power used of 202.31 W.

8016 Background : Pts with TCE RRMM who have been exposed to ≥3 lines of therapy (LOT) have a poor prognosis and limited tx options. Tec is a B-cell maturation antigen × CD3 bispecific antibody being evaluated in MajesTEC-1 (NCT04557098), a single-arm, phase 1/2 study in pts with RRMM who were TCE to an immunomodulatory drug, a proteasome inhibitor, and an anti-CD38 antibody and received ≥3 LOT. Since MajesTEC-1 lacks a control arm, we assessed the comparative efficacy of tec vs tx currently used in real-world clinical practice (RWCP) by creating an external real-world control arm from LocoMMotion (NCT04035226), a prospective study of RWCP efficacy and safety outcomes in pts with TCE RRMM who received ≥3 LOT. Methods: An external control arm for MajesTEC-1 was created from pts in LocoMMotion (248 pts, clinical cutoff May 21, 2021) who met MajesTEC-1 eligibility criteria. Individual pt-level data from MajesTEC-1 were included from 150 pts treated with tec (1.5 mg/kg weekly) at a clinical cutoff of Sep 7, 2021. Inverse probability of tx weighting with average tx effect on the treated was used to adjust for imbalances in baseline covariates of prognostic significance (refractory status, International Staging System stage, time to progression on prior LOT, extramedullary disease, number of prior LOT, time since diagnosis, average duration of prior LOT, age, hemoglobin, lactate dehydrogenase, creatinine clearance, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status, gender, type of MM, and prior transplant). Comparative efficacy of tec vs RWCP was estimated for overall response rate (ORR), very good partial response (VGPR) rate, complete response or better (≥CR) rate, duration of response (DOR), progression-free survival (PFS), and overall survival (OS). For binary endpoints (ORR, VGPR rate, and ≥CR rate), relative effect of tec vs RWCP was estimated with an odds ratio, transformed into a response-rate ratio (RR) and 95% confidence interval (CI), derived from weighted logistic regression. A weighted Cox proportional hazards model was used to compute hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% CIs for time-to-event endpoints (DOR, PFS, and OS). Results: Baseline characteristics were well balanced between the 2 cohorts after reweighting the external RWCP cohort. Pts treated with tec had improved outcomes vs tx used in RWCP: ORR (RR 2.31; 95% CI 1.75–2.87; P< 0.0001), VGPR rate (RR 5.54; 95% CI 3.38–7.70; P< 0.0001), ≥CR rate (RR 91.50; 95% CI 12.66–661.43; P< 0.0001), DOR (HR 0.17; 95% CI 0.08–0.36; P< 0.0001), PFS (HR 0.47; 95% CI 0.34–0.67; P< 0.0001), and OS (HR 0.69; 95% CI 0.46–1.05; P= 0.08). Conclusions : Tec showed significantly improved efficacy over RWCP for almost all outcomes, highlighting its potential as a highly effective tx option for pts with TCE RRMM who have been exposed to ≥3 LOT.

Abstract:
One of the most important parameters in ionospheric plasma research, also having a wide practical application in wireless satellite telecommunications, is the total electron content (TEC) representing the columnal electron number density. The F-region with high electron density provides the biggest contribution to TEC while the relatively weakly ionized plasma of the D-region (60 km { 90 km above Earth's surface) is often considered as a negligible cause of satellite signal disturbances. However, sudden intensive ionization processes, like those induced by solar X-ray flares, can cause relative increases of electron density that are significantly larger in the D-region than in regions at higher altitudes. Therefore, one cannot exclude a priori the D-region from investigations of ionospheric influences on propagation of electromagnetic signals emitted by satellites. We discuss here this problem which has not been sufficiently treated in literature so far. The obtained results are based on data collected from the D-region monitoring by very low frequency radio waves and on vertical TEC calculations from the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signal analyses, and they show noticeable variations in the D-region's electron content (TECD) during activity of a solar X-ray ?are (it rises by a factor of 136 in the considered case) when TECD contribution to TEC can reach several percent and which cannot be neglected in practical applications like global positioning procedures by satellites.

Abstract:
We describe the first one-pot orthogonal strategy to prepare well-defined cyclopeptide-based heteroglycoclusters (hGCs) from glycosyl thiols. Both thiol–chloroactetyl coupling (TCC) and thiol–ene coupling (TEC) have been used to decorate cyclopeptides regioselectively with diverse combination of sugars. We demonstrate that the reaction sequence starting with TCC can be performed one-pot whereas the reverse sequence requires a purification step after the TEC reaction. The versatility of this orthogonal strategy has been demonstrated through the synthesis of diverse hGCs displaying alternating binary combinations of α-D-Man or β-D-GlcNAc, thus providing rapid access to attractive heteroglycosylated platforms for diverse biological applications.

En la actualidad, todas las personas tienen miedo de contagiarse del COVID-19, es por ello que buscan soluciones óptimas y eficientes, que no involucren tanto contacto con otras personas, por medio de las nuevas tecnologías. Además, se ha visto un incremento en el uso de metodologías y sistemas ágiles para acelerar determinados procesos, que involucran gran pérdida de tiempo y dinero. Un gran ejemplo; es el uso de los medios digitales como intermediario para contactar a un experto legal y administrativo con el objetivo de que realice determinados trámites sin necesidad de que el cliente salga de su casa, se exponga al covid y realice colas afuera de la institución para solicitar asesoría; evitando así, pérdida de tiempo y mal humor. Por estas razones, hemos visto una oportunidad de negocio para generar valor en dichas personas; la cual se basa en la resolución de trámites más solicitados en la actualidad con la ayuda de profesionales capacitados y las nuevas redes de contacto, que permiten que todo sea más rápido y eficiente. En este presente trabajo, se procederá a desarrollar una investigación con el fin de ver la viabilidad y rentabilidad de nuestro proyecto con el fin de poder proceder a comercializar dicho servicio. Asimismo, se aplicará y desarrollará los conocimientos aprendidos durante el transcurso de la carrera al tratar temas relacionados a distintas áreas como finanzas, marketing, negocios internacionales, logística, entre otros.
At present, all people are afraid of catching COVID-19, which is why they seek optimal and efficient solutions, which are not involved as much contact with other people, through new technologies. In addition, there has been an increase in the use of agile methodologies and systems for certain processes, which involve a great loss of time and money. A great example; is the use of digital media as an intermediary to contact a legal and administrative expert in order to carry out certain procedures without the need for the client to leave their home, expose themselves to covid and queue outside the institution to request advice ; thus avoiding waste of time and bad mood. For these reasons, we have seen a business opportunity to generate value in these people; which is based on the resolution of the most requested procedures nowadays with the help of trained professionals and the new contact networks, which allow everything to be faster and more efficient. In this present work, an investigation will be carried out in order to see the viability and profitability of our project in order to be able to proceed to commercialize said service. Likewise, the knowledge learned during the course of the degree will be applied and developed by dealing with issues related to different areas such as finance, marketing, international business, logistics, among others.

TESIS PARA OPTAR AL GRADO DE MAGÍSTER EN MARKETING
La República de Panamá como país no productor de petróleo, se ve condicionado a la adquisición de sus derivados con base en las oscilaciones del precio del mercado internacional. Una rebaja en los derivados del crudo nace precisamente de la competencia por parte de los oferentes (productores), entre los que extraen con tecnología tradicional y los que emplean tecnología más perfeccionada para extraer petróleo del esquisto. Esto impacta directamente a los consumidores finales, los cuales cuando conducen en la ciudad o realizan viajes más largos, desean ahorrar dinero en la bomba de gasolina. El rendimiento de motores puede elevarse o compensarse con la utilización de productos químicos que mejoran las propiedades del combustible y del aceite, permitiendo que funcionen de mejor manera. En este sentido, el uso de aditivos contribuye a eliminar las impurezas del sistema de combustión y de lubricación. A pesar de sus beneficios, en términos de ahorros y prolongación de la vida útil del auto, en el mercado panameño se puede notar una ausencia de concienciación sobre los beneficios reales que ofrece un motor de auto limpio para prolongar su vida útil así como el ahorro de combustible. Un punto no explotado en campañas de marketing, dirigidas a este segmento. Seguidamente se presenta un plan de marketing para la promoción de Engine Flush, aditivo desarrollado y comercializado por PRO TEC, el cual ha sido estructurado en tres partes. En su primera sección, se presenta un análisis situacional del mercado de aditivos en Panamá, permitiendo establecer una posición más clara respecto al tema, desde la perspectiva del Marketing, evaluando sus principales afectaciones positivas y negativas respecto al entorno y sus grupos de interés, para determinar planes tácticos de acción. La segunda parte de este documento establece el marco general de un Plan Estratégico de Mercadeo. Dicha planeación comprende, entre otros puntos, la definición de objetivos de mercadotecnia, viabilidad de la propuesta, barreras o limitaciones, estrategia creativa y de comunicación, selección de medios y presupuesto de una campaña, correspondiente de enero a diciembre 2017, que apoyará la promoción del producto antes mencionado. Finalmente, en su tercera parte, se establecen y sugieren, tanto métricas como sus respectivos instrumentos, que permitan monitorear el cumplimiento de los objetivos del plan de marketing y definir otras posibles ejecutorias.

El presente trabajo de investigación tiene por objeto la creación de una plataforma virtual útil para conectar a técnicos y clientes que deseen satisfacer una necesidad técnica a domicilio en el menor tiempo posible. Además, mediante la plataforma virtual se garantizará la seguridad y calidad de los servicios a ofrecer, ya que la selección de técnicos será minuciosa para realizar dicho contacto. En suma, para rectificar nuestro servicio de calidad, se realizará una supervisión del servicio realizado, con el objeto de realizar mejoras y ofrecer beneficios a los clientes, en caso que el cliente no esté a gusto con el servicio ofrecido. La idea de negocio surge a consecuencia de una necesidad frecuente como reparar objetos domésticos y, ello se dificulta ante el requerimiento de un experto con experiencia y que, a su vez, éste sea confiable. Añadido a esto, contratan a trabajadores informales que proliferan sus capacidades técnicas en lugares peligrosos, pero que forman parte de su marketing personal. En los primeros apartados, se apreciará los aspectos más importantes y relevantes para el entendimiento del proyecto como es el caso del modelo del negocio, sus validaciones, estudios de mercado, entre otros puntos. En el presente documento se analiza la viabilidad y escalabilidad del negocio y se desarrollara la proyección de ventas a partir del plan concierge de TEC, asimismo, la planeación estratégica, los planes entre ellos el operativo, de marketing y financiero, definidos así por áreas. Posteriormente, se presenta un análisis cuantitativo y cualitativo de dichos planes mediante los estados financieros. Por último, se desarrolla un breve resumen de lo más importante por medio de conclusiones.
The purpose of this research work is to create a useful virtual platform to connect technicians and clients who wish to satisfy a technical need at home in the shortest possible time. In addition, the virtual platform will guarantee the safety and quality of the services to be offered, since the selection of technicians will be meticulous to make such contact. In short, to rectify our quality service, a supervision of the service performed will be carried out, in order to make improvements and offer benefits to customers, in case the customer is not comfortable with the service offered. The business idea arises as a result of a frequent need such as repairing household objects and this is hindered by the requirement of an experienced expert who, in turn, is reliable. Added to this, they hire informal workers who proliferate their technical skills in dangerous places, but who are part of their personal marketing. In the first sections, the most important and relevant aspects for understanding the project will be appreciated, such as the business model, its validations, market studies, among other points. This document analyzes the viability and scalability of the business and will develop the sales projection based on TEC's concierge plan, as well as strategic planning, including operational, marketing and financial plans, defined by area. Subsequently, a quantitative and qualitative analysis of these plans is presented through the financial statements. Finally, a brief summary of the most important is developed through conclusions.

The thesis work has been carried out at Volvo Aero Corporation (VAC) in Trollhättan. VAC has entered a partnership as developing and producing partner with engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney and is currently at the starting phase of producing the turbine rear frame (TEC) to the engine PW1000.The purpose of this study was to create a report on process level that describes the conditions and the potential with PW1000 TEC to reach the product cost calculation taking into account lead times and describe alternative method solutions.The report describes a comparison between the present flow (2012), a flow based on product cost calculation (2016) and a potential flow (2016). The work has mainly been based on acquiring the knowledge and information available to inspect the present flow; this has been done by workshop observations, meetings and gathering of the information that is available on the work site for the PW1000 TEC.The information obtained has been merged into an Excel document, called Roadmap. It serves as a roadmap with current situation as the start and the potential flow for 2016 as the goal. Abstract:
It has been shown in ionospheric research that modelling total electron content (TEC) during storm conditions is a big challenge. In this study, mathematical equations were developed to estimate TEC over Sutherland (32.38⁰S, 20.81⁰E), during storm conditions, using the Empirical Orthogonal Function (EOF) analysis, combined with regression analysis. TEC was derived from GPS observations and a geomagnetic storm was defined for Dst ≤ -50 nT. The inputs for the model were chosen based on the factors that influence TEC variation, such as diurnal, seasonal, solar and geomagnetic activity variation, and these were represented by hour of the day, day number of the year, F10.7 and A index respectively. The EOF model was developed using GPS TEC data from 1999 to 2013 and tested on different storms. For the model validation (interpolation), three storms were chosen in 2000 (solar maximum period) and three others in 2006 (solar minimum period), while for extrapolation six storms including three in 2014 and three in 2015 were chosen. Before building the model, TEC values for the selected 2000 and 2006 storms were removed from the dataset used to construct the model in order to make the model validation independent on data. A comparison of the observed and modelled TEC showed that the EOF model works well for storms with non-significant ionospheric TEC response and storms that occurred during periods of low solar activity. High correlation coefficients between the observed and modelled TEC were obtained showing that the model covers most of the information contained in the observed TEC. Furthermore, it has been shown that the EOF model developed for a specific station may be used to estimate TEC over other locations within a latitudinal and longitudinal coverage of 8.7⁰ and 10.6⁰ respectively. This is an important result as it reduces the data dimensionality problem for computational purposes. It may therefore not be necessary for regional storm-time TEC modelling to compute TEC data for all the closest GPS receiver stations since most of the needed information can be extracted from measurements at one location.

Abstract:
The purpose of this thesis has been to determine experimentally how good a peltier element is to convert waste heat from wood burning. Three different peltier elements were used in a comparison study. The comparison was mainly done to know how much power could be obtained from each element. Even, a circuit with a step-up function has been created to give a higher output voltage than the peltier element itself. The result of the experiments was a low output power, the highest value reached 2.18W. Also, the Carnot efficiency has been calculated for the three different elements and the efficiency ranged between 14 and 33%. From the circuit a constant 3.3V output was delivered. The main conclusion of this project is that furthermore Studies are needed in the material field because the elements available at the market today have too low efficiency.

En este trabajo, se presenta información relacionada con dicha empresa en la que hago referencia a la visión, misión, valores, antecedentes históricos, principales proveedores y clientes de la empresa, se exponen características de las diferentes líneas de productos que se ofrecen, las áreas que conforman la estructura organizacional de la empresa, así como sus funciones, que en conjunto permitan conocer a la organización. Se elaboró un análisis FODA cuya herramienta fue identificar las fortalezas, oportunidades, debilidades y amenazas de la situación de la empresa, a fin de determinar ventajas empresariales competitivas, así como estrategias de mejoras en las deficiencias encontradas. Dentro de este trabajo también se describen las principales actividades que desempeñé en el área de ventas, y los principales problemas a los que me enfrente como administradora.

The deterioration of bridge decks is a problem typically associated with the corrosion of the reinforcing steel. This issue was partially controlled during the 1970s with the incorporation of the epoxy-coating protection system. However, research later demonstrated that the smooth surface resulting from the epoxy-coating application reduces most of the friction between the rebar and the surrounding concrete. Consequently, forces acting on the rib faces are reconfigured in such a way that the radial components increase, triggering the early development of cracks. To mitigate both the reduction of bonding and the formation of cracks, the Illinois Department of Transportation proposed a new type of coated bars: textured epoxy-coated (TEC) bars. Over the last few years, different projects have been executed to understand and improve the characteristics of TEC rebars. This report is a continuation of research performed at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign to evaluate the bond behavior of TEC bars. The experimental program starts by characterizing, qualitatively and quantitatively, the roughness of the TEC rebars. Next, their bond-slip interaction embedded in concrete is evaluated through pull-out tests. Finite element models of these tests are developed to validate the behavior observed as the textured reinforcement loses anchorage with concrete. Based on these results, the experimental program then aims to study the impact of the drying shrinkage, temperature change, and flexural demands on two large-scale bridge deck specimens reinforced, individually, with TEC and standard epoxy-coated bars. The results collected from both specimens using digital image correlation and strain gauges are compared to explore the differences exhibited by the traditional and the new type of reinforcement coatings in terms of stress distribution in bridge decks. Finally, given the specialized equipment and time-consuming procedure needed to calculate the roughness parameters of TEC bars, an empirical, weight-based approach is developed as a rapid method for assessing the rebars’ roughness on-site.
