Abstract:
This pilot study explored Māori (Indigenous peoples of Aotearoa (New Zealand)) and Tauiwi (non-Māori) nurses’ perspectives of anti-racism. A critical qualitative design was utilised, informed by kaupapa Māori (Māori philosophical approaches). Senior nurses with more than 7 years experience were recruited for focus groups. Two focus groups, one Māori ( n = 5) and one Tauiwi ( n = 4), were conducted September 2019 in Auckland. Data were analysed using the framework of a continuum of praxis which included themes of (a) problematic or racist, (b) variable and (c) proactive or anti-racism. Problematic praxis included examples of racism and White fragility. Variable praxis included Māori language and commitment to professional development. Proactive praxis included Māori workforce and reflexivity. These overarching themes illustrate a broad spectrum of anti-racism praxis within nursing. This continuum illustrated with examples is a potentially useful tool to assess and build proactive anti-racism praxis in nursing.

Abstract:
Aotearoa/New Zealand is divided between the mainstream news media and the fast-gowing Māori media with different perspectives. New Zealand journalism graduates need to be taught different media systems and news values. In the New Zealand news media now and beyond 2000 the biggest growth area is in the Māori media. For many years Māori have been saying the news media ignores their perspective on news and is not reporting Māori events properly. The news media failed to take notice of these claims and in frustration Maori set up their own media. In the last 19 years—but more so in the past five years there has been a huge growth in the Māori news media. There are now nine Iwi newspapers, 26 Iwi radio stations, a Māori radio news network and several Māori magazines, the most prominent being Mana.

Abstract:
In my recently published book Rebuilding the Kāinga, I championed the idea of kāinga in a contemporary sense: integrated housing; cultural and communal facilities; sustainable use and management of whenua, awa, and moana; and sustainable economic activities. If implemented widely, the kāinga model will also have profound impacts on how we in Aotearoa New Zealand (Māori, Pākehā, and Tauiwi—all of us) plan our homes, towns, and cities. In this intervention, I expand on, and seek to further develop, this idea in relation to current discourse regarding economics, decolonisation, and, in particular, urban planning in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Abstract:
In the bicultural context of Aotearoa New Zealand, Māori (people of the land) and Tauiwi (the other tribe, i.e. Pākehā and other non-indigenous New Zealanders), continue to be represented in binary opposition to each other. This has real consequences for the way in which health practitioners think about and respond to Māori. Reflecting on ideas explored in my PhD thesis, I suggest that Māori identity is much more complex than popular representations of Māori subjectivity allow. In this article I offer an alternative narrative on the social construction of Māori identity by contesting the idea of a singular, quintessential subjectivity by uncovering the other face/s subjugated beneath biculturalism’s preferred subjects. Waitara Mai i te horopaki iwirua o Aotearoa, arā te Māori (tangata whenua) me Tauiwi (iwi kē, arā Pākehā me ētahi atu iwi ehara nō Niu Tīreni), e mau tonu ana te here mauwehe rāua ki a rāua anō. Abstract:
Pakiwaitara (Elkington, 2001) came about as a gap identified in social service delivery between western, middle class, dominant culture and the healing of Māori whānau in crisis. While education has responded to this gap by offering bicultural training, ensuring more Māori components within degree programmes, etc, social services statistics are still high for Māori and indigenous peoples. It has helped to shift the definition of cultural supervision to inside the definition of specialised professional supervision (Elkington, 2014), but now continued invisibility of values and beliefs, particularly that of Tauiwi, exacerbate the problem. The challenge must still be asserted so that same-culture practitioners are strengthened in same-culture social work practice (eg, by Māori, for Māori), and to avoid when possible, or otherwise by choice, white dominant-culture practice, for all-and-every-culture social work practice (eg, by Pākehā, for everyone).

Abstract:
In Aotearoa New Zealand there is limited research exploring the tensions for Indigenous Māori nurses when integrating cultural priorities into clinical practice. This study explores how Māori nurses navigate delivering culturally responsive care to iwi, hapū, and Māori whānau across different healthcare settings. A qualitative Indigenous narrative inquiry was used to obtain data. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 12 Māori registered nurses and nurse practitioners. The thematic analysis was both inductive and deductive. The narratives provide insight into the nurses’ holistic Indigenous world view by contextualising their professional practice experiences. Four main themes were derived from data: te tuakiri Māori - cultural identity; kawenga taumaha - bearing the burden; te kaikiritanga - racism; and tauutuutu - reciprocity. Māori practitioners routinely experienced compromises within biomedically oriented healthcare services. Practitioners witnessed discriminatory practices that may negatively impact on healthcare outcomes. Sustained cultural dissonance may also negatively impact on retention of Māori nurses. Māori practitioners value tauiwi colleagues who work as allies and affirm culturally shaped care for Māori.

Abstract:
The development of Māori (Indigenous New Zealanders) research capacity over the past 20 years now begs the question of how Māori and Tauiwi (non-Māori) researchers might authentically partner and undertake transdisciplinary research that upholds the integrity and aspirations of both parties. In this article, the notion of interstitial space is suggested as a middle ground whereby researchers can acknowledge their own worldviews and come together for fruitful transdisciplinary engagements. Seven community-up research values set an engagement context in which researchers are called upon to respect one another, share and listen, be cautious and humble, acknowledge ontological and epistemological differences and build commitment to the development of mutual understandings. A scale is proposed to encourage researcher self-reflection on their readiness to join a multicultural, transdisciplinary research group. The readiness of group members to appropriately engage has the potential to spark successful transdisciplinary research in order to provide strategic solutions to complex, real-life problems.

This commentary was developed around two interconnected meditations sparked by Chris Milton’s paper: firstly on the idea of poetry as complementary to the healing alchemy of analysis and secondly on how the encounter with a new landscape and culture in Aotearoa New Zealand forms the ground of transpersonal life for Pākehā, especially those of settler descent. The language of poetry, with its capacity to connect us with the mythopoeic world, is offered as a way of contextualising the arrival of Jungian analysis in this land and imaginal ground. Abstract:
The art installation common/room explores human‐digital‐human encounter across cultural differences. It comprises a suite of extended reality (XR) experiences that use technology as a bridge to help support human connections with a view to overcoming intercultural discomfort (racism). The installations are exhibited as an informal dining room, where each table hosts a distinct experience designed to bring people together in a playful yet meaningful way. Each experience uses different technologies, including 360° 3D virtual reality (VR) in a headset (common/place), 180° 3D projection (Common Sense) and augmented reality (AR) (Come to the Table! and First Contact ‐ Take 2). This article focuses on the latter, First Contact ‐ Take 2, in which visitors are invited to sit at a dining table, wear an AR head-mounted display and encounter a recorded volumetric representation of an Indigenous Māori woman seated opposite them. She speaks directly to the visitor out of a culture that has refined collective endeavour and relational psychology over millennia. The contextual and methodological framework for this research is international commons scholarship and practice that sits within a set of relationships outlined by the Mātike Mai Report on constitutional transformation for Aotearoa, New Zealand. The goal is to practise and build new relationships between Māori and Tauiwi, including Pākehā.

Abstract:
The return to Otautahi | Christchurch in 2015 provided an opportune moment for us to participate, observe, ponder, and reflect on the partnership agreement between Waka Oranga and the New Zealand Association of Psychotherapists (NZAP). Otautahi is significant as the place where, in 2009, the membership of the NZAP voted for a constitutional change which recognised Waka Oranga, an allied Māori organisation, as its bicultural Treaty partner. This article reflects on a journey taken thus far and discusses the shifting ground that emerges as a consequence of bicultural partnership, specifically with the NZAP which is predominantly Pākehā and Tau Iwi. The opinions expressed are based on the authors’ personal experiences and engagement with both Waka Oranga and the NZAP. Abstract:
This article discusses issues in treating the historical trauma of Māori, the colonised peoples of Aotearoa New Zealand. The advent of Māori psychotherapy has enabled valuable insight into the needs of such clients, but, even as it helps define a space of safety and nurture for Māori, questions arise about how non-Māori practitioners might treat Māori clients from outside this largely intra-cultural process. The article focuses on the response from New Zealand Pākehā (that is, New Zealanders of European descent), due to the fact that they are in the most primary bicultural relationship with Māori, in which an inherent white privilege and coloniser status complicates the relational process. Finally, the article discusses the difficulties Pākehā experience in bridging intercultural divides around cultural competency, power structures, and the importance of cultural self-awareness, which may also have a wider multicultural relevance to other tauiwi (non-Maori) practitioners. Abstract:
The brown marmorated stink bug (BMSB) Halyomorpha halys (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) is an invasive pest in North America and Europe that damages many plant species and invades human dwellings. It is regularly intercepted at Aotearoa/New Zealand’s borders but is not yet known to have established. Māori are partners in New Zealand’s biosecurity community and an understanding of the potential impact of any invasive alien species to their interests is essential. The known impacts of BMSB in published literature were reviewed with a focus on Māori plant taonga (valued or treasured plant species) in: (1) Māori commercial enterprises; (2) mara kai (food gardens); and (3) the natural estate. Many fruit and some vegetable species are likely to be affected by BMSB in commercial and non-commercial Māori horticulture but the impact of BMSB on indigenous/native and other taonga plant species in mara kai and the native estate is difficult to evaluate. BMSB poses a serious economic threat to some crop species of commercial value to Māori, as well as threat to some native taonga species. A kaupapa Māori approach examining unpublished mātauranga (knowledge) would considerably broaden this understanding. Abstract:
Our research aims to assess the chestnut tree health status in three various locations: Baia Mare, Tauti Magheraus, Baia Sprie, in order to find the most efficient methods to prevent and to combat the bark cancer which develops in the clime conditions of Baia Mare basin. The primary assessment was performed through the determination of the attack degree (AD %), of its frequency (F%) and its intensity (I%) . We took in observation 10 chestnut trees from each location. We determined the number and size of both trunk and branches lesions for each chestnut tree. The intensity of the attack in the three studied areas ranked from the highest intensity 47.5% for Baia Sprie location followed by the intensity of 33.0 % for Tautii Magheraus, to the intensity of 26.5% for Baia Mare. Our analysis performed after the administration of the combat chemical method, we found that this measure was not efficient because the infection did not diminish; thus we recommend the dry chestnut tree elimination, its hygiene cuts, using the biologic combat.

Abstract:
‘Badging’ is the awarding of a digital badge that represents an accomplishment, interest or affiliation (Gibson, Ostashewski, Flintoff, Grant, & Knight, 2013). Such badges are awarded and stored online, and may contain metadata to clarify the context and criteria of the awarded badge. Badging is generally argued to be a considerable motivator in learning (Gibson et al., 2015; Mah, 2016), not only in the formal educational environment but particularly in the gamification movement (Nah, Zeng, Telaprolu, Ayyappa, & Eschenbrenner, 2014; Glover, 2013). Current issues with digital badging systems suggest limitations in adapting to the needs of both tauira and teachers. The driving forces behind this study were two-fold. Firstly, as digital badging is used increasingly in schools world-wide as a motivator for learning in both primary and secondary school contexts, how might the use of digital badges be modelled in teacher education courses; and secondly, are digital badges of similar value to tauira in the tertiary space? The third driver was to explore ways to engage both undergraduate and postgraduate tauira in meaningful synthesis of their course readings, course content and teaching experience. This study developed and trialled the incorporation of an existing ‘badging’ platform, Badgr, into tasks delivered through CANVAS in the context of teacher education. The primary aims of the study were: to determine how motivated tertiary tauira were by digital badges; to establish a digital badging process that was both engaging for tauira and manageable for the lecturer; and to design online tasks that scaffolded tauira through their synthesis of course readings, content and experience. The badged tasks were administered via the Discussion and Quizzes features within CANVAS, with all tauira submissions being moderated by the lecturer before any badges were awarded. An overview of the structure, key elements, findings and implications of the trialled approach will be presented.

Kesimpulan, sistematika mushaf Al-Qur’an bersifat tauqifi berdasarkan dalil nash.

During TMT, no chemicals are introduced into the wood, which distinguishes this method from a number of wood modification methods. The iroko and tauari wood were subjected to volumetric densification in a hydraulic press. The wood was densified in a radial direction at a temperature of 100 and 150 °C. The wood color parameters were measured using the mathematical CIE L*a*b* and L*C*h color space models. The roughness parameters of Ra and Rz parallel and perpendicular to the grain were investigated. The contact angle (CA) of the wood with distilled water was determined based on the sessile drop method. The equilibrium moisture content (EMC) and dimensional changes of the wood were determined for a climate with a temperature of 20 °C and a relative humidity (RH) of 9%, 34%, 55%, 75% and 98%. The tauari wood was less prone to color changes under the influence of TMT than the iroko wood. After densification, the iroko and tauari wood displayed a different character of roughness changes. The iroko wood featured the lowest level of roughness after TMT at 100 °C, and the tauari wood after TMT at 150 °C. The densified iroko and tauari wood were characterized by weaker dynamics in the changes in their respective contact angles than the non-densified wood. The higher the temperature of the TMT, the lower the EMC of the wood. Higher EMC values were observed for the tauari wood than for the iroko wood. This was due to the lower content of chloroform-ethanol extractives. Similar dependencies were obtained in the case of hot water extractives. The thermo-mechanically treated wood displayed a greater tendency towards dimensional changes in a climate with high relative air humidity, i.e., above 70%, compared to the non-modified wood.

Abstract:
A review of the main results from the MACHO project for RV Tauri stars and Type II Cepheids in the LMC is presented. In light and colour curve behaviour, the RV Tauri stars appear to be a direct extension of the Type II Cepheids to longer periods. A single period–luminosity–colour relationship is seen to describe both the Type II Cepheids and RV Tauri stars in the LMC.Follow-up low resolution spectroscopy of the LMC RV Tauri stars has been undertaken. The spectra of the longest period RV Tauri star in the MACHO sample show that this star has strong C2 bands with a pronounced phase dependence, their strength being greater at minimum light. This and other spectral features are similar to those observed in proto-planetary nebulae. This LMC star therefore appears to combine the main spectral anomaly of the proto-planetary nebulae with RV Tauri-like photometric variability. This is an intriguing result which indicates a possible link between RV Tauri stars and proto-planetary nebulae, and strengthens the post-AGB interpretation of the RV Tauri stars.

Abstract:

The infrared colours of the RV Tauri stars fall in a well-defined and thinly-populated region of the IRAS [12] – [25], [25] – [60] diagram. This provides an alternative method of searching for such stars. Stars with these IRAS colours as well as the K and L excesses which are also typical of RV Tauri stars have spectral types from B to M. The characteristic variability of RV Tauri-type has been found for several stars with spectral types typical of known RV Tauri stars, while stars of different spectral types do not vary in this way. RV Tauri stars are the stars with these colours, probably indicative of a dusty circumstellar disk, which lie within the Cepheid instability strip.

AbstractT Tauri stars are low mass, pre-main sequence stars. These objects are surrounded by an accretion disk and present strong magnetic activity. T Tauri stars are copious emitters of X-ray emission which belong to powerful magnetic reconnection events. Strong magnetospheric shocks are likely outcome of massive reconnection. Such shocks can accelerate particles up to relativistic energies through Fermi mechanism. We present a model for the high-energy radiation produced in the environment of T Tauri stars. We aim at determining whether this emission is detectable. If so, the T Tauri stars should be very nearby.

AbstractWe present surface magnetic field maps of the two accreting T Tauri stars, CV Cha and CR Cha. Our magnetic field maps show evidence for strong, complex multi-polar fields similar to those obtained on young rapidly rotating main sequence stars. Both CV Cha and CR Cha show magnetic field patterns that are more complex than those recovered for the lower mass, fully convective T Tauri star, BP Tau.By comparing our maps with previously published maps of classical T Tauri stars, we infer that magnetic field patterns on T Tauris, and their underlying magnetic field generation mechanisms evolve quickly as they develop radiative cores. This may have implications for the efficiency with which T Tauri stars can effectively lock onto their surrounding disks under the magnetospheric accretion model scenario. This, in turn, has implications for the angular momentum evolution of T Tauri stars as they evolve towards the main sequence.

Abstract:
Anthropogenic pressure on the forest resources of the Brazilian Amazon, partly caused by illegal logging, has contributed to increase the list of endangered Brazilian flora species, as is the case of some representatives of the family Lecythidaceae. In this way, aiming to contribute to the control of the illegal cutting of the trees, the objective of this study was to identify and characterize samples of wood marketed as belonging to the “tauari” group, in order to provide support for species-level identification. Samples were obtained from 15 sawmills in 10 municipalities in the state of Pará in June and July 2016. The species identification was confirmed by comparison with standard samples from the wood collections of Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi and Embrapa Amazônia Oriental. Three samples were identified as not belonging to the “tauari” group: Eschweilera sp. (matamatá-branco), Cedrela sp. (cedro) and Erisma uncinatum (cedrinho). The other 17 samples belonged to the “tauari” group with three distinct species: Couratari stellata, C. oblongifolia and C. guianensis. All species from Lecythidaceae family presented similarity in anatomical structure of wood, at macroscopic and microscopic level. The adoption of a single popular name by logging companies in the state of Pará to designate timber from the “tauari” group masks information about the diversity of species traded and compromises the end use of timber and the trust between buyer and seller.

AbstractRV Tauri stars are luminous population II Cepheids which show a characteristic light curve of alternating deep and shallow minima. There are 126 RV Tauri variables in our Galaxy. Using WISE [3.4]-[4.6], [12]-[22] diagram we show that Galactic RV Tauri stars show three main types of IR properties in their SEDs; disc-type, non-IR and uncertain, which does not show a clear characteristic in the SED. We also show that there is a strong correlation between disc-type SED and binarity (Gezer et al. 2015). RV Tauri stars were linked to post AGB stars in early studies (Jura 1986), however, recent studies show that their evolutionary nature is more complex than previously thought (Kamath & Van Winckel 2014, and Manick et al. 2018). In this study, we intentionally selected two RV Tauri stars, GK Car (disc-type) and GZ Nor (uncertain), with different IR characteristics to compare their chemical and photometric properties.

AbstractThe Nobeyama Millimeter Array Survey for protoplanetary disks has been made for 19 protostellar IRAS sources in Taurus; 13 were invisible protostars and 6 were youngest T Tauri stars. We observed the 98 GHz continuum and CS(J=2-1) line emissions simultaneously with spatial resolutions of 2.8”- 8.8” (360 AU-1,200 AU). Unresolved continuum emission was detected from 5 of 6 T Tauri stars and 2 of 13 protostar candidates. The continuum emission arose from compact circumstellar disks. Extended CS emission was detected around 2 T Tauri stars and 11 protostar candidates. There is a remarkable tendency for the detectability for the 98 GHz continuum emission to be small for protostar candidates. This tendency is explained if the mass of protoplanetary disks around protostars is not as large as that around T Tauri stars; the disk mass may increase with the increase of central stellar mass by dynamical accretion in the course of evolution from protostars to T Tauri stars.

Woods from an important group of Lecythidaceae species called “tauari” can hardly be identified in the field by their gross and general features. In this study we show that, when properly delimited to the genera Allantoma, Cariniana and Couratari, wood anatomical characteristics can be used to identify the species known as “tauari”, even though it is not possible to separate all species. In addition to anatomical characters, wood colour is an important character to help distinguish species of Cariniana and Allantoma from species of Couratari. Detailed wood anatomical descriptions from “tauari” woods Allantoma, Cariniana and Couratari are given and a table with diagnostic differences is presented. Common characters of this group are axial parenchyma in narrow continuous bands, prismatic crystals in chambered axial parenchyma cells and silica bodies in ray cells. Microscopic features that help in species identification are: fibre pitting (minutely or distinctly bordered), traumatic intercellular canals, average vessel diameter, vessel element length, axial parenchyma strand length, and ray height and width.

T Tauri stars show linear polarization typically between 1–3%. A two band linear polarization survey of some T Tauri star was reported earlier by Bastien (1982). Most of the stars show pronounced time variability in polarization and position angle (Bastien, 1980; 1982). Wavelength dependence of polarization is important in determining the specific mechanism(s) producing polarization. For a systematic study of polarization in T Tauri stars, we have taken up an observing programme to measure linear polarization of some stars in Taurus-Auriga region. Polarization measurements of 9 T Tauri stars are reported here. Observations were made on January 8–11, 1984 with MINIPOL (Frecker and Serkowski, 1976) on 61“ telescope of University of Arizona.

Although interactions between microalgae and bacteria are observed in both natural environment and the laboratory, the modalities of coexistence of bacteria inside microalgae phycospheres in laboratory cultures are mostly unknown. Here, we focused on well-controlled cultures of the model green picoalga Ostreococcus tauri and the most abundant member of its phycosphere, Marinobacter algicola. The prevalence of M. algicola in O. tauri cultures raises questions about how this bacterium maintains itself under laboratory conditions in the microalga culture. The results showed that M. algicola did not promote O. tauri growth in the absence of vitamin B12 while M. algicola depended on O. tauri to grow in synthetic medium, most likely to obtain organic carbon sources provided by the microalgae. M. algicola grew on a range of lipids, including triacylglycerols that are known to be produced by O. tauri in culture during abiotic stress. Genomic screening revealed the absence of genes of two particular modes of quorum-sensing in Marinobacter genomes which refutes the idea that these bacterial communication systems operate in this genus. To date, the ‘opportunistic’ behaviour of M. algicola in the laboratory is limited to several phytoplanktonic species including Chlorophyta such as O. tauri. This would indicate a preferential occurrence of M. algicola in association with these specific microalgae under optimum laboratory conditions.

A single P – L – C relationship describes both the Type II Cepheids and RV Tauri stars in the LMC. The derived high intrinsic magnitudes for the RV Tauri variables supports the proposition that these objects are luminous stars evolving off the AGB. Preliminary analysis of the long time-series MACHO photometry indicates one star (MACHO*05:37:45.0–69:54:16) has an obvious ‘period-quadrupled’ periodicity, which is supporting evidence for a period-doubling bifurcation transition to chaotic pulsations.

The derived magnetic field strength are 2.0 ± 0.6 kG and 2.6 ± 0.8 kG for the classical T Tauri stars Lk Ca 15 and T Tau, respectively. An upper limit of 0.6 ± 0.8 kG is found for the weak-line T Tauri star Lk Ca 16. Abstract:
Ostreococcus tauri is an easily cultured representative of unicellular algae (class Mamiellophyceae) that abound in oceans worldwide. Eight complete 13–22 Mb genomes of phylogenetically divergent species within this class are available, and their DNA sequences are nearly always present in metagenomic data produced from marine samples. Here we describe a simplified and robust transformation protocol for the smallest of these algae (O. tauri). Polyethylene glycol (PEG) treatment was much more efficient than the previously described electroporation protocol. Short (2 min or less) incubation times in PEG gave >104 transformants per microgram DNA. The time of cell recovery after transformation could be reduced to a few hours, permitting the experiment to be done in a day rather than overnight as used in previous protocols. DNA was randomly inserted in the O. tauri genome. In our hands PEG was 20–40-fold more efficient than electroporation for the transformation of O. tauri, and this improvement will facilitate mutagenesis of all of the dispensable genes present in the tiny O. tauri genome.

Observations (in UBV) were also collected in China at the Yunnan and Shanghai Observatories to get a long base line in time. To search for differences in the properties between the brightness variations of classical T Tauri stars (CTTS) and T Tauri stars with weak emission lines (WTTS) we performed simultaneous photometry (in the UBV and Strömgren systems) and spectroscopy of 6 young stars during two observing periods at ESO La Silla. The study concerned mainly short-term variability on time-scales of minutes to a few hours. The sample contained two CTTS, SY Ori and VW Cha; three WTTS, San 1, SZ Cha and ADA 481 and one post-T Tauri candidate, HD 70309B.

AbstractThis article aims to reveal the role of one of the historical pesantren in Garut West Java, that is Pesantren Cipari. This Pesantren since beginning of its the development is closely related to the struggle of nationalism. K.H. Yusuf Tauziri and some other kiai leads movement Sarekat Islam in Garut in 1920 until 1930s. Examination of fidelity to the Republic occurred when movement DI/TII in 1948 to fight against the government. Pesantren Cipari firmly supports the government, as in the attitude of the leaders, K.H. Yusuf Tauziri. Thus, the conflict between Pesantren Cipari and forces DI/TII inevitable. This paper is largely derived from oral testimony of Pesantren Cipari leaders and other written sources. Understanding the role of Pesantren Cipari also means understanding the nationalist struggle as a whole, especially during social conflicts after independence.

Abstract:
AbstractA program to obtain photometric and spectroscopic (high and medium resolution) observations of a number of southern RV Tauri stars has been undertaken over the past two years at the Mount John University Observatory (MJUO). Eleven RV Tauri stars of both RVa (constant mean magnitude) and RVb (varying mean magnitude) photometric type have been chosen as well as normal and weak metal lined RV Tauri stars. Most program stars display the alternating deep and shallow semi-regular light variations as well as the light curve - colour curve phase lag characteristic of RV Tauri stars. Fourier analyses of the light curves have revealed the dominant periodicities (see figure 1) and allowed phasing of the spectroscopic observations.High resolution échelle spectra obtained of these stars around the Hα region display the complex emission and absorption structure of the Hα line at various phases. Metallic lines show emission and line doubling or ‘splitting’ - profiles characteristic of the shock wave that propagates through the line-formation regions of these stars during a pulsational cycle. Spectra at specific phases will be used in an abundance analysis of selected RV Tauri stars.

AbstractMany, perhaps most, accreting T Tauri stars show evidence for magnetically dominated accretion flows near the stellar surface. I discuss the implications of this for the rotation rates and long-term photometric variability of T Tauri stars.

We focus here on those T Tauri star properties that make it worthwhile to Doppler-image these young stellar objects, namely magnetic structures and accretion features. We then comment on recent results obtained for two bright, fast rotating weak-line T Tauri stars.

Abstract:
The CS (J = 2 — 1) line and 98 GHz continuum emission have been observed for 11 protostellar IRAS sources in the Taurus molecular cloud with resolutions of 2.6″−8.8″ (360 AU—1200 AU) using the Nobeyama Millimeter Array (NMA). The CS emission is detected only toward embedded sources, while the continuum emission from dust grains is detected only toward visible T Tauri stars except for one embedded source, L1551-IRS5. This suggests that the dust grains around the embedded sources do not centrally concentrate enough to be detected with our sensitivity (∼4 m Jy r.m.s), while dust grains in disks around the T Tauri stars have enough total mass to be detected with the NMA. The molecular cloud cores around the embedded sources are moderately extended and dense enough to be detected in CS, while gas disks around the T Tauri are not detected because the radius of such gas disks may be smaller than 70 (50 K/Tex) AU. These results imply that the total amount of matter within the NMA beam size must increase when the central objects evolve into T Tauri stars from embedded sources, suggesting that the compact and highly dense disks around T Tauri stars are formed by the dynamical mass accretion during the embedded protostar phase.
