Abstract:
The front-end bottleneck is a well-established problem in server workloads owing to their deep software stacks and large instruction footprints. Despite years of research into effective L1-I and BTB prefetching, state-of-the-art techniques force a trade-off between metadata storage cost and performance. Temporal Stream prefetchers deliver high performance but require a prohibitive amount of metadata to accommodate the temporal history. Meanwhile, BTB-directed prefetchers incur low cost by using the existing in-core branch prediction structures but fall short on performance due to BTB’s inability to capture the massive control flow working set of server applications. This work overcomes the fundamental limitation of BTB-directed prefetchers, which is capturing a large control flow working set within an affordable BTB storage budget. We re-envision the BTB organization to maximize its control flow coverage by observing that an application’s instruction footprint can be mapped as a combination of its unconditional branch working set and, for each unconditional branch, a spatial encoding of the cache blocks around the branch target. Effectively capturing a map of the application’s instruction footprint in the BTB enables highly effective BTB-directed prefetching that outperforms the state-of-the-art prefetchers by up to 10% for equivalent storage budget.

Abstract:
Nun's Fret Not is a photomontage project that tells the story of a nun who, following an epiphany, embarks with her convent on becoming a “missionary artist” through a study-by-mail artist's course, and her subsequent disillusionment. A continuation of the work begun in icehouse in 2010, it re-contextualizes Kovitz's previous art work into a meta-narrative that examines recurrent themes in his art practice: artist and audience, success and obscurity, art market and art education, dominant cultures and subcultures. All characters in this project share the same face– the face of Litmus– an alter ego Kovitz made for his work based on an FBI shooting target. In the next installment of this project the nun will undergo a sex change and become a capitalist…

Abstract:
With ongoing war in the Donbas, war narratives and war images saturate public media in Ukraine, the discourse contaminated by ideological remnants of the Soviet World War II cult and by fake news. Art that deals with war wounds can subvert the familiar visual language of war propaganda, where the suffering of victims is a mere pretext for touting the inevitable triumph of the heroes. Currently in Ukraine, the most prolific art in this regard is produced by women-artists who address the trauma of war through painting and installations that offer highly personalized accounts. Often touching upon extreme circumstances, their art is about tolerance, both in terms of endurance and of the mutual understanding necessary for cohabitation. Alevtyna (Alevtina) Kakhidze’s ongoing performance creates an opportunity to comprehend the war in the Donbas from multiple perspectives, including that of a gardener. She associates the tending of plants with her mother who died on occupied territory, refusing to leave her garden. Mariia (Maria) Kulikovs'ka’s sculptures serve as shooting targets for separatists in the occupied centre of contemporary art in Donetsk. Vlada Ralko’s paintings of tortured bodies become a metaphor for scars garnered by a war that remains close to home. Paintings and sculptures by Maryna Skuharieva (Skugareva) and Anna Zviahintseva (Zvyagintseva) address the ruin of representation inflicted by war, and the conceptual performance by Liia (Lia) Dostlieva and Andrii Dostliev contemplates the healing process of war wounds. Neither making spectacle from the “pain of others” nor deeming it unrepresentable, this art seeks emphatic alternatives to traditional war narratives.

Abstract:
A performer steps onto a stage, bare save for a single microphone. She is dressed in black with a white target printed on the chest of her shirt. This target pattern is a replica of the human targets marksmen use to practice shooting. The everywoman manifests her interior monologue – she talks frankly about what’s been bothering; her in a rambling, free-associative way. As she speaks, from time to time, a prop is lowered from the ceiling to her hand. She stops speaking; as the props descend and reascend. The pulleys that move them creak as they move the objects through space. The only props that do not come from above – deus ex machina – are the red buttons which the woman removes from her hip pockets.)

Full text
Abstract:
In this paper, an intelligent water shooting robot system for situations of carrier shake and target movement is designed, which uses a 2 DOF (degree of freedom) robot as an actuator, a photoelectric camera to detect and track the desired target, and a gyroscope to keep the robot’s body stable when it is mounted on the motion carriers. Particularly, for the accurate shooting of the designed system, an online tuning model of the water jet landing point based on the back-propagation algorithm was proposed. The model has two stages. In the first stage, the polyfit function of Matlab is used to fit a model that satisfies the law of jet motion in ideal conditions without interference. In the second stage, the model uses the back-propagation algorithm to update the parameters online according to the visual feedback of the landing point position. The model established by this method can dynamically eliminate the interference of external factors and realize precise on-target shooting. The simulation results show that the model can dynamically adjust the parameters according to the state relationship between the landing point and the desired target, which keeps the predicted pitch angle error within 0.1°. In the test on the actual platform, when the landing point is 0.5 m away from the position of the desired target, the model only needs 0.3 s to adjust the water jet to hit the target. Compared to the state-of-the-art method, GA-BP (genetic algorithm-back-propagation), the proposed method’s predicted pitch angle error is within 0.1 degree with 1/4 model parameters, while costing 1/7 forward propagation time and 1/200 back-propagation calculation time.

Abstract:
Radar target classification is an important task in the missile defense system. State-of-the-art studies using micro-doppler frequency have been conducted to classify the space object targets. However, existing studies rely highly on feature extraction methods. Therefore, the generalization performance of the classifier is limited and there is room for improvement. Recently, to improve the classification performance, the popular approaches are to build a convolutional neural network (CNN) architecture with the help of transfer learning and use the generative adversarial network (GAN) to increase the training datasets. However, these methods still have drawbacks. First, they use only one feature to train the network. Therefore, the existing methods cannot guarantee that the classifier learns more robust target characteristics. Second, it is difficult to obtain large amounts of data that accurately mimic real-world target features by performing data augmentation via GAN instead of simulation. To mitigate the above problem, we propose a transfer learning-based parallel network with the spectrogram and the cadence velocity diagram (CVD) as the inputs. In addition, we obtain an EM simulation-based dataset. The radar-received signal is simulated according to a variety of dynamics using the concept of shooting and bouncing rays with relative aspect angles rather than the scattering center reconstruction method. Our proposed model is evaluated on our generated dataset. The proposed method achieved about 0.01 to 0.39% higher accuracy than the pre-trained networks with a single input feature.

Abstract:
This paper proposes a new approach to enhance the realism and interactivity of shooting simulation systems by integrating a three-degree–of–freedom (3-DoF) platform with sensory and interactive elements, as well as digital content. The system employs visual effects computers and servo controls, utilizing network packet messages for communication based on different scene definitions. When the control handle sends commands, the visual effects computer transmits control parameters to the image generator. Additionally, AI-controlled aircrafts act as enemy planes, autonomously determining flight paths, tracking targets, and engaging in combat, thereby enhancing realism in interactive mechanisms. An iterative learning control (ILC) is designed to provide the platform with good dynamic response, load capacity, and tracking ability when operated by a manual control handle. The core control uses a TMS320F28377D digital signal processor from Texas Instruments, integrated with visual effects computers for three-axis control, controller computation, finite state machines, and network communication operations. Experimental results demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the developed three-axis shooting platform, achieving immersion and coordination with AI enemy aircrafts.

Abstract:
Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma (HNSCC) is often aggressive, with poor response to current therapies in approximately 40–50% of the patients. Current therapies are restricted to operation and irradiation, often combined with a small number of standard-of-care chemotherapeutic drugs, preferentially for advanced tumour patients. Only very recently, newer targeted therapies have entered the clinics, including Cetuximab, which targets the EGF receptor (EGFR), and several immune checkpoint inhibitors targeting the immune receptor PD-1 and its ligand PD-L1. HNSCC tumour tissues are characterized by a high degree of intra-tumour heterogeneity (ITH), and non-genetic alterations that may affect both non-transformed cells, such as cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs), and transformed carcinoma cells. This very high degree of heterogeneity likely contributes to acquired drug resistance, tumour dormancy, relapse, and distant or lymph node metastasis. ITH, in turn, is likely promoted by pronounced tumour cell plasticity, which manifests in highly dynamic and reversible phenomena such as of partial or hybrid forms of epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT), and enhanced tumour stemness. Stemness and tumour cell plasticity are strongly promoted by Notch signalling, which remains poorly understood especially in HNSCC. Here, we aim to elucidate how Notch signal may act both as a tumour suppressor and proto-oncogenic, probably during different stages of tumour cell initiation and progression. Notch signalling also interacts with numerous other signalling pathways, that may also have a decisive impact on tumour cell plasticity, acquired radio/chemoresistance, and metastatic progression of HNSCC. We outline the current stage of research related to Notch signalling, and how this pathway may be intricately interconnected with other, druggable targets and signalling mechanisms in HNSCC.

Abstract:
Visual object tracking in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) videos plays an important role in a variety of fields, such as traffic data collection, traffic monitoring, as well as film and television shooting. However, it is still challenging to track the target robustly in UAV vision task due to several factors such as appearance variation, background clutter, and severe occlusion. In this paper, we propose a novel two-stage UAV tracking framework, which includes a target detection stage based on multifeature discrimination and a bounding-box estimation stage based on the instance-aware attention network. In the target detection stage, we explore a feature representation scheme for a small target that integrates handcrafted features, low-level deep features, and high-level deep features. Then, the correlation filter is used to roughly predict target location. In the bounding-box estimation stage, an instance-aware intersection over union (IoU)-Net is integrated together with an instance-aware attention network to estimate the target size based on the bounding-box proposals generated in the target detection stage. Extensive experimental results on the UAV123 and UAVDT datasets show that our tracker, running at over 25 frames per second (FPS), has superior performance as compared with state-of-the-art UAV visual tracking approaches.

Abstract:
The improvement of small target detection and obscuration handling is the key problem to be solved in the object detection task. In the field operation of chemical plant, due to the occlusion of construction workers and the long distance of surveillance shooting, it often leads to the phenomenon of missed detection. Most of the existing work uses multiple feature fusion strategies to extract different levels of features and then aggregate them into global features, which does not utilize local features and makes it difficult to improve the performance of small target detection. To address this issue, this paper introduces Point Transformer, a transformer encoder, as the core backbone of the object detection framework that first uses a priori information of human skeletal points to obtain local features and then uses both self-attention and cross-attention mechanisms to reconstruct the local features corresponding to each key point. In addition, since the target to be detected is highly correlated with the position of human skeletal points, to further boost Point Transformer’s performance, a learnable positional encoding method is proposed by us to highlight the position characteristics of each skeletal point. The proposed model is evaluated on the dataset of field operation in a chemical plant. The results are significantly better than the classical algorithms. It also outperforms state-of-the-art by 12 percent of map points in the small target detection task.

Abstract:
The threat of terrorist attack posed to the Republic of Poland is of a potential character and possible targets for such attacks include also objects located in the area of the Baltic Sea. Terrorist activities may be carried out in order to destroy or render vessels such as passenger, cargo and the navy ships, hydraulic structures and port facilities inoperative, as well as to take control over them. A terrorist attack may also aim at causing an environmental disaster. Direct targets of terrorist attacks may be passengers or crew members, but attempts of cargo seizure may also be expected. Potential forms of terrorist attack possible to carry out on the sea include among other things: bomb attacks, hijacking, shooting incidents, mines, and underwater sabotage. Terrorist attacks may be undertaken by both separate terrorist groups and the ones that are linked with international terrorist organizations serving their ideological purposes. Activities performed by organized terrorist groups may mainly aim at money extortion. Perpetrators of terror attacks may also include special forces of foreign countries that conduct their activities in order to deteriorate the economy of the other country, disparage it or complicate its internal or international situation. To combat terrorist threats on the sea effectively it is necessary to undertake complementary and coordinated activities, and the tasks of preventing such threats and counteracting the effects of possible terror attacks are to be carried out by relevant forces and entities that act under particular government departments, as well as government administration bodies and special forces.

Abstract:
Backgroun/rationale: Adults with physical disabilities are an underserved population among Americans who participate in adaptive shooting sports. A basic rifle marksmanship clinic has potential to promote a low impact outdoor physical activity for adults with physical disabilities as leisure skill development. Methods: This grant-funded service project of a therapeutic recreation (TR) graduate student utilized program design and evaluation. The specific program design included best practices for teaching basic rifle marksmanship and measured participants’ performance outcomes related to shooting skills and knowledge. A half-day rifle marksmanship clinic was conducted as a university-funded community service grant which provided rifle instructor certification, ammunition and supplies. The clinic was a collaboration between physical therapy (PT) and TR faculty and PT, OT, and TR majors. Results: All participants gained shooting knowledge and skill through this program. A shooting clinic format with classroom instruction followed by practice on a live firing range was effective. The use of a leisure partner for each participant helped sustain interest and continued support to develop skill after the clinic. Doing an in-home exercise program prior to the clinic reduced muscle soreness from the intensity of target practice in a clinic format. Conclusions: TR specialists may promote shooting sports as treatment for functional improvement or as leisure skill development. They may collaborate with physical and occupational therapy to emphasize psychosocial aspects of shooting sports.Recommendations: Shooting skills instructors could expand live fire training time at clinics, start training with virtual shooting or air or laser rifles to assess participant readiness, promote inclusive practice specific to shooting sports, and apply empowerment evaluation as a signature program strategy.

Abstract:
The “First Ray” project was launched in 2009. According to the idea and concept developed, the shooting takes place in the high mountain systems of the Himalayas, Karakoram, and the Cordillera at dawn. The shooting aims to capture the first rays of the sun illuminating the snow-capped mountain peaks. A prerequisite for shooting is no later than two minutes after the first touch of the sun's ray to the peak. Since the sun is still deep below the horizon at this time, the lighting at the shooting point corresponds to twilight conditions, although the subject is in daylight conditions. This provides additional opportunities for creative reinterpretation of the scene and presentation of the result as an art object. The prerequisites for achieving the result are that the photographer should be located mostly at an altitude of 4000 metres. The height of the peaks to be photographed is from 6500 metres above sea level. The exposition is arranged according to the light, which allows for detail and draws the viewer’s attention to the idea of the project. Additionally, to enhance the impression, the sky was “dulled” in post-processing until details and colour disappeared completely.

Abstract:
. During shooting operations in garrison shooting ranges, a phenomenon of random deflection of the bullet flight path was noticed which may cause secondary reflections from accidentally hit technical and ballistic shooting range elements and the ground of the actual plane of the shooting range (ricochets posing a threat to people and property within the shooting range and safety zones). Minimisation of this phenomenon must be considered during the design and operation of the shooting ranges. In 20202022 the Military Institute of Armament Technology (Zielonka, Poland) carried out tests with the aim of determining the impact of the shooting target or military target material or design (hereinafter referred to as the targets) on the risk of occurrence of modifications of bullet trajectory that cause the bullets to leave the shooting zone. The paper presents example results of these tests that show, but are not limited to, that the reasons to modify the direction of the bullet path after target penetration and any ricochets include: target material (flat or corrugated sheet metal, cardboard, plywood, etc.), target wooden legs, and even metal elements fixing the legs to the target. On the basis of the test it was shown that the metal targets prohibited on intermediate lines may cause significant deflections of the bullet flight path after penetration and dangerous ricochets. Due to the reason presented above, the metal targets are placed on the last line of targets before the main bullet trap only where the technical and ballistic parameters of the bullet trap ensure that any ricochets are captured. It was stated that the contact targets used on intermediate target lines and provided with wooden legs may cause bullet trajectory changes comparable to or even greater than in the case of the prohibited metal targets. To this end it is advisable to establish legal framework covering the ballistic inspection of the target materials to be used in garrison shooting ranges.

Abstract:
In this paper, we introduce a computational procedure that enables autonomous LEO laser trackers endowed with INSs to increase the current accuracy when shooting at middle distant medium-size LEO debris targets. The code is designed for the trackers to throw the targets into the atmosphere by means of ablations. In case that the targets are eclipsed to the trackers by the Earth, the motions of the trackers and targets are modeled by equations that contain post-Newtonian terms accounting for the curvature of space. Otherwise, when the approaching targets become visible for the trackers, we additionally use more accurate equations, which allow to account for the local bending of the laser beams aimed at the targets. We observe that under certain circumstances the correct shooting configurations that allow to safely and efficiently shoot down the targets, differ from the current estimations by distances that may be larger than the size of many targets. In short, this procedure enables to estimate the optimal shooting instants for any middle distant medium-size LEO debris target.

Mathematical support for constructing the relief of a shooting range from an image with support for the height and range of each point and taking into account the screening of targets by folds terrain for tactical optical-electronic simulator of the small arms 'Inhibitor' developed at Institute of mechanics UdmFRC UB RAS and at Computer facilities department of Kalashnikov ISTU jointly with JSC «Kalashnikov Concern» was described. The tactical and technical task for the functional capabilities of implementing the relief of the shooting range is given: hills, ravines, mountains at a distance of up to 2 km in the sector up to 60°, shielding targets with folds of the area. A relief model is proposed in the form of a bilinear interpolated matrix of heights with a pitch of 10 m, and an editor is developed that allows interactively specifying range boundaries and terrain height along the front on the image of the shooting range. Screening the visibility of targets by folds of the terrain is implemented using the central projection of all relief profiles for a single workplace of shooters, and for the implementation of trenches, a mechanism for the height of the target above the surface of the shooting range is proposed, which optimizes the 'quality-speed' ratio. Studies of the «projector-screen-observer» system showed the presence of factors of errors in the virtual shooting range, some of which are of a fundamental nature, and the rest can be compensated for by the regression model of the target point recorder and taking into account its cumulative error by reducing the tabular ballistic dispersion of simulated shots. Based on the prospects for further research and development of electronic shooting simulators and thanks to the improvement of computing tools and the development of software graphics libraries, it is necessary to expand the functionality of the simulators and reduce the cost, which means to increase competitiveness, for example, improving the realism of simulating the terrain of the shooting range with screening of targets by folds of the terrain.

Abstract:
The aim of this study was evaluated the progress of shooting efficiency of elite biathletes fifteen years ago. Shooting efficiency was computed as a proportion of hit targets and number of fired cartridges during all races of World Cup. Values of shooting efficiency in each season were averaged and compared together. It was not able to characterize the shooting efficiency of men by any trend which can describe progress of shooting efficiency. In women category it was recorded progress of shooting efficiency apart from three last seasons. Most of medalists achieved the values of shooting efficiency about 84 – 85. Some biathletes can win with lower shooting efficiency cause of excellent cross country skiing performance. In the average the best three biathlete’s women extend to higher shooting efficiency than the best three biathletes. Shooting and physical performance of average ten elite men is more equaled than by women, probably it is the reason why biathletes have to shorten shooting velocity. Finally it can lead to decrease of shooting efficiency.

Mathematical support of target layout with pre-scaling during storage and mixing of target image boundaries is described when displaying on a shooting range for the optical-electronic shooting simulator 'Inhibitor' developed at Institute of mechanics UdmFRC UB RAS and at Computer Engineering department of Kalashnikov ISTU jointly with JSC «Kalashnikov» Concern». The tactical and technical task for the implementation of the target layout is given: support for all targets from the Shooting Course and realistic targets, the angular dimensions of objects on the screen must correspond to the real ranges to them, and the speed of visualization algorithms allows simultaneously displaying at least 32 targets with a frequency of at least 25 frames/s. When developing mathematical support, the BMP format for storing TrueColor images with the scale of 1 pixel = 1cm2 was chosen, scaling targets to speed up further processing and the obligatory mixing of object-background border colors when displaying fractional coordinate support with pixel fractions of greatly reduced targets on the screen (so a thoracic target 50 cm wide at a distance of 100 m should be 12.8 points wide, while at a distance of 600 m - 2.13 points only) was emphasizes. The carried out studies of mathematical support performance for the target layout images formation confirmed compliance with the tactical and technical task requirements and recommended a pre-scaling factor of 0.5 (1:2) for optimal «quality-performance» ratio. Based on the prospects for further research and development of electronic shooting simulators and due to the improvement of computing tools and the development of software graphics libraries, it is necessary to expand the eficiency of simulators and reduce costs, which means to increase competitiveness, for example, by increasing the target layout display realism.

Abstract:
The article describes mathematical tools and algorithms for preparing for a shooting exercise with selection of a combat scenario and setting the parameters of the shooting range (special effects) for the optical-electronic shooting simulator 'Inhibitor' developed at Institute of mechanics UdmFRC UB RAS and at Computer facilities department of Kalashnikov ISTU jointly with JSC 'Kalashnikov' Concern'. The tactical and technical task for displaying various types of shooting ranges (steppe, wooded, mountain and urban) is given, taking into account the season (summer/autumn/winter/spring) and time of the day (morning/day/evening/night) with possible illumination of the area at night and support for the 'atmospheric effect' by reducing contrast and possibly of fog with precipitation (rain/snow). As a result of the work done, all the problems are solved using the gamma function and other image transformations outside the main cycle of animation of the target environment. When choosing a shooting exercise scenario, one can combine two features for different types of weapons and execute them simultaneously at different workplaces, one can view and edit the script and configure parameters (for example, disable the random location of targets or group them at short range, change the order of display, allow special combat effects and active behavior of targets, set air temperature and pressure and wind speed, etc.). A gamma function study was carried out to change the time of day of the shooting range image and models of the application of fog (translucency) and precipitation (ripples images). The literature review confirms the promise of further research and development of electronic rifle simulators through the improvement of computing tools and the development of software libraries with the aim of improving the accuracy of simulating a shooting range and flexible adjustment of both atmospheric and combat parameters of training exercises. It is necessary to constantly expand the possibilities of realism of the target situation and reduce the cost, which means to increase the competitiveness of electronic shooting simulators.

Abstract:
The last decade has seen several of the most heinous acts imaginable committed against our educational facilities. In light of the recent shooting in Sandy Hook Elementary School in Monroe (Newtown), CT, which took the lives of 20 children and six employees, a new heightened sense of awareness for safety and security among our educational facilities was created.1 The law enforcement and public-safety community is now looking to work together with many of the educational representatives across the nation to address this issue, which affects the educational environment now and in the future. The US public and private elementary and secondary school systems’ population is approximately 55.2 million students with an additional 19.1 million students attending a 2- and 4-year college or university. These same public and private school and degree-granting institutions employ approximately 7.6 million staff members who can be an enormous threshold of potential targets.2 A terrorist's act, whether domestic, international, or the actions of a Lone Wolf against one of our educational facilities, would create a major rippling effect throughout our nation. Terrorists will stop at nothing to advance their ideology and they must continue to advance their most powerful tool—fear—to further their agenda and mission of destroying our liberty and the advanced civilization of the Western hemisphere. To provide the safety and security for our children and those who are employed to educate them, educational institutions must address this issue as well as nullify the possible threat to our national security. This thesis used official government reports and data interview methodologies to address various concerns from within our nation's educational system. Educational personnel along with safety and security experts identified, describe, and pinpointed the recommended measures that our educational institutions should include to secure our nation from within. These modifications of evaluating and updating their current emergency operations plan, if implemented correctly, will bring heightened awareness, as well as define roles and responsibilities, to everyone involved. In addition, these implementations will assist in coordinating and strengthening a multiagency partnership's among the public-safety community that will mitigate the risk to our student body, faculty, and staff, and strengthen our national security.

A mathematical support of target layout animation on the image of the shooting range with shielding by nearby objects and without flickering for the optical-electronic shooting simulator'Inhibitor' developed at Institute of mechanics UdmFRC UB RAS and at Computer facilities department of Kalashnikov ISTU jointly with JSC «Kalashnikov» Concern» is described. The tactical and technical task for the implementation of realistic target layout animation is given: support for all exercises from the Shooting Course with emerging-disappearing and moving targets on the surface of the shooting range with local objects that shield them, as well as folds of the area and other targets. Movements should be realistic in speed and angular dimensions of targets, smooth without jerking and correspond to the exercise scenario from the Firing Course: targets up to 2 m/s, armored vehicles up to 4 m/s at an angle of 15-20 from maximum ranges to minimum ones. The animation frequency should be maintained at least 25 frames/s, with the priority of the target layout (at least up to 32 at the same time) over special effects and local objects. The conducted studies of the animated target positioning accuracy with strong reduction in their size at longer ranges to ensure the realism of aiming at such images confirmed compliance with the requirements of TDP (significantly less than 0.3 thousandth range or 1.5 mm). Abstract:
Abstract Shooting with the available weapons is a determining and defining element of armed combat, and the mysteries, practice, art and, above all, the science of shooting are learnt during shooting training, a discipline of overwhelming importance in the process of training troops and, implicitly, their preparation for combat. Nowadays, the construction of (fire) weapons has reached unprecedented technical and technological levels, with lethal and destructive accuracy and capability that were unimaginable a few decades ago. In this context, the maximum exploitation of the characteristics of the available weapons and the training of instictual shooting is an indispensable requirement coming from the reality of the military conflicts in which the Romanian military have taken part, a reality that has generated the need to develop the existing training facilities in order to create the best conditions for training the necessary skills. This development can be done either by purchasing training systems incorporating state-of-the-art technologies, at high cost, or by modernizing the existing ones at relatively lower costs and bringing them to the level of the accepted training requirements.

Abstract:
Objective: The purpose was to determine if Soldier rucksack load, marching distance, and average heart rate (HR) during shooting affect the probability of hitting the target. Background: Infantry Soldiers routinely carry heavy rucksack loads and are expected to engage enemy targets should a threat arise. Method: Twelve male Soldiers performed two 11.8 km marches in forested terrain at 4.3 km/hour on separate days (randomized, counterbalanced design). The Rifleman load consisted of protective armor (26.1 kg); the Rucksack load included the Rifleman load plus a weighted rucksack (48.5 kg). Soldiers performed a live-fire shooting task (48 targets) prior to the march, in the middle of the march, and at the end of the march. HR was collected during the shooting task. Data were assessed with multilevel logistic regression controlling for the multiple observations on each subject and shooting target distance. Predicted probabilities for hitting the target were calculated. Results: There was a three-way interaction effect between rucksack load, average HR, and march ( p = .02). Graphical assessment of predicted probabilities indicated that regardless of load, marching increases shooting performance. Increases in shooting HR after marching result in lower probability of hitting the target, and rucksack load has inconsistent effects on marksmanship. Conclusion: Early evidence suggests that rucksack load and marching may not uniformly decrease marksmanship but that an inverted-U phenomenon may govern changes in marksmanship. Application: The effects of load and marching on marksmanship are not linear; the abilities of Soldiers should be continuously monitored to understand their capabilities in a given scenario.

Abstract:
Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) equipped with intelligent gimbaled cameras can take images and identify specific targets from them in real-time. However, the targets in the images are generally small and difficult to be seen. This paper proposes an Online Target Close-up Shooting (OTCS) method to solve the problem of taking high-definition (HD) close-up images of the targets. Firstly, we build an online target close-up shooting model, which uses deep learning (DL) algorithm to identify the targets from the images taken online. Then, an intelligent control algorithm is presented to control the gimbaled camera to take a close-up shot of the target, which considered the target being fixed on the ground statically and moving at an ununiform speed. Finally, we build a UAV-based prototype system and conduct a series of experiments to verify our proposal. Experimental results show that our proposed method is feasible and outperforms traditional methods in effectiveness.

AbstractOne-hundred-and-ninety-nine shooters in England, Wales and Scotland shot at fox-shaped targets in 35 shotgun regimes including .410 and 12 bore using No 6, BB or AAA shot sizes at 25, 40 or 60 yards, with open and full choke barrels, and skilled, semi-skilled or unskilled shooters. A further 16 regimes used rimfire rifles at 50 yards (both supported using a gun rest and unsupported) and centrefire rifles at 100 and 150 yards, by day and by night. The targets were life-sized paper foxes, traced from a longitudinal section of a real fox and mapped with the internal anatomy. For shotgun trials, the targets were moved across a gap, allowing the shooters 3 or 3.5 s to take aim and fire. For rifle trials, the static targets were raised up for 4 s and then lowered. Fifteen dead foxes, shot with the same ammunition, ranges and angle as in the shooting regimes, were assessed for internal injuries caused by each regime. Ammunition was tested in comparative card-penetration tests. A total of 1085 shotgun shots and 885 rifle shots at the targets were scored as ‘killed’, ‘seriously wounded’, ‘lightly wounded’ or ‘missed’. As shooters' skill level increased, the ‘kill’ rate increased, the ‘miss’ rate decreased but the ‘wounding’ rates stayed much the same. No 6 shot ‘wounded’ because of poor penetration. AAA had poor pattern density at ranges beyond 40 yards. At ranges of up to 40 yards, both AAA and BB shot performed well, BB being the optimum. .410 shotguns with No 6 shot ‘wounded’ but seldom ‘killed’. Rifles ‘killed’ better than shotguns and ‘wounded’ less. There was no regime that had no probability of ‘wounding’; however, the latter varied dramatically across the trials with different types of gun, ammunition and shooters' skill level. Mitigating factors such as the use of second shots or dogs are discussed.

Abstract Aiming at the problem of resource allocation in multi-task scheduling of phased array fire control radar, this paper proposes an adaptive scheduling algorithm based on comprehensive priority, that is, the shooting advantage degree of phased array fire control radar to different targets is calculated by using Analytic Hierarchy Process, and then combined with the priority of the work mode and the task deadline to carry out the comprehensive priority planning of the task. In the performance evaluation algorithm, the index of shooting value rate is proposed to evaluate the performance of the scheduling algorithm for high shooting advantage degree tasks. The simulation results show that, compared with the traditional scheduling algorithm, the proposed scheduling algorithm significantly improves the shooting value rate and the comprehensive scheduling ability of phased array fire control radar.

Abstract:
Primary objectives of neurofeedback training (NFT) are to improve concentration, stress and anxiety management, and performance optimisation. This narrative review examines the role of NFT as a tool to improve mental and cognitive skills of target shooting and archery athletes. Current research discusses how neurofeedback training can act on brain waves by influencing specific EEG frequency bands in order to improve cognitive flexibility. This contribution reports studies that have applied neurofeedback protocols in precision disciplines such as archery and shooting. The results of the studies considered showed that neurofeedback can lead to faster reaction times, more sustained attention, and better emotion management, contributing significantly to athletes’ performance. Furthermore, it is emphasised that neurofeedback could be combined with other techniques such as motor imagination to maximise effectiveness in precision sports training. This review emphasises the importance of future studies that focus on the integration of neurofeedback with biofeedback in neuromodulation protocols. Current perspectives and limitations of research in this area are also indicated. Neuromodulation by means of neurofeedback represents a promising strategy to improve the overall mental and cognitive abilities of target shooting and archery athletes with an interesting potential for high-level performance. Future research should focus on integrated approaches and customised protocols to optimise the use of neurofeedback in a precision sports context.

Abstract:
This article addresses the film Partido alto (Leon Hirszman, 1976–1982), a Brazilian music documentary that showcases two sessions of partido-alto, a traditional, improvisation-based genre. The film highlights a separation between the diegetic music world, which is based on improvisation, and the technical approach to register it. First, it foregrounds the process of recording popular music through the noticeable presence of a microphone that strives to follow each singer’s unpredictable interventions. Then, the young professional singer Paulinho da Viola joins in on the performance with nonprofessional singers, working as a mediator between the official music scene and popular traditions. I suggest that, by using cameras and microphones to approximate a popular, nonrecorded form of art, the film raises some crucial issues in the history of samba. In particular, the ways in which cinematic techniques such as the sequence shot and voiceover are employed in the film allows us to reflect on the dichotomy between improvisation and recording, as well as the role of cultural mediators. Paulinho da Viola lies at the centre of these strategies, for he assumes an expert commentator and interviewer role, while also being a participant in the popular community.

Abstract:
The theory of enclothed cognition proposes that wearing physical articles of clothing can trigger psychological processes and behavioral tendencies connected to their symbolic meaning. Furthermore, past research has found that increases in power are associated with greater approach orientation and action tendencies. In this study, we integrate these two literatures to examine how embodying the role of a police officer through wearing a uniform would affect responses on a reaction-time measure known as the Shooter Task. This first-person video game simulation requires participants to shoot or not shoot targets holding guns or objects. The task typically elicits a stereotypical pattern of responses, such that unarmed Black versus White targets are more likely to be mistakenly shot and armed Black versus White targets are more likely to be correctly shot. Based on the relationship between power and action, we hypothesized that participants who were randomly assigned to wear a police uniform would show more shooting errors, particularly false alarms, than control participants. Consistent with our hypotheses, participants in uniform were more likely to shoot unarmed targets, regardless of their race. Moreover, this pattern was partially moderated by attitudes about the police and their abuse of power. Specifically, uniformed participants who justified police use of power were more likely to shoot innocent targets than those who were wary of it. We discuss implications for police perceptions and the theory of enclothed cognition more broadly.

Abstract:
Mobile devices have been increasingly used to take pictures without leaving a trace. However, the application system can lead to confidential information leaks. A framework for screen-shooting-resilient watermarking via deep networks (SSDeN) in the frequency domain is put forward in this study to solve this problem. The proposed framework can extract the watermark from the leaked photo for copyright protection. SSDeN is an end-to-end process that combines convolutional neural network (CNN) with residual block to embed and extract watermarks in the DCT domain. We simulate some screen-shooting attacks to ensure the networks embed the watermark robustly. Our framework achieves the state-of-the-art performance on existing learning architectures for screen-shooting-resilient watermarking.

Abstract:
Individual biathlon competition as an event consists of a number of segments (variables), i.e. cross-country skiing time, range time, so-called time difference, and shooting accuracy. In the research part, the study analysed the interrelations of these variables and their correlations with competitive performance at the Biathlon World Championship individual competition. Regression analysis showed that total cross-country skiing time was the most important determinant of competitive performance (55%). Total shooting performance prone and standing explains 39.5%, total range time accounts for 5% of the criterion variable, and time difference for 0.5%. The contestants hit 80.5% of all targets in this competition. Factor analysis determined seven factors that logically completed the competition outcome in a biathlon individual competition. These factors are: cross-country skiing performance; shooting time and range time; time difference; accuracy shooting 1 and total time in lap 1; accuracy shooting 2 and total time in lap 2; accuracy shooting 4 and total time in lap 4; and accuracy shooting 3 and total time in lap 3. Although we found in this competition a somewhat dominant contribution of the cross- country skiing itself to the final competitive performance, shooting accuracy is also very important in an individual biathlon competition. The results of men’s individual biathlon competitions at the last Olympics and World Championships show that it is still possible to win a medal with only one missed shot (two missed shots can only be afforded by the rare biathletes who are extremely fast skiers).

Abstract:
The paper investigates the problems of creating a multimedia simulator with a laser emitter for training the correct use of various weapons in order to acquire the skills of targeted high-speed shooting. Specialized Software is designed to train novice shooters and improve the level of fire training in learning the techniques and rules of small arms shooting. The software component consists of separate software modules that allow the user to configure the interactive shooting range, create and run shooting exercises. Hitting the target is determined by the coincidence of the central pixel of the laser response (spot) on the projection image with one of the target pixels. Note that the laser emitter is attached to a real weapon and when you pull the trigger, a spot appears on the screen as a result of the shot. Along with the use of real weapons, computer graphics tools are used to create appropriate virtual environments and simulate a variety of situations in it, as close as possible to real conditions. Hardware and algorithmic shooting errors have been studied and methods for their reduction have been developed. Hardware depends on the parameters of the laser emitter, the size and characteristics of the projection screen, resolution and characteristics of the receiving camera-sensor. Algorithmic depends on the selected algorithm and frame processing methods. The hardware and algorithmic errors of shooting have been investigated and methods have been developed to reduce them. The analysis of the spots from the laser emitter on the projection image and the search for the centroid of the spot are carried out. An algorithm for determining the centroid of a spot through two-stage binarization of the image has been developed and tested, the thresholds of binarization that are optimal for solving the problem have been determined. The test results showed that the obtained accuracy is within the hardware component of the error, and the speed in decision-making is performed in real time.

Abstract:
Introduction/purpose: The paper presents a solution for overcoming a possible problem - breach of safety measures when operating the BVP M80A Infantry Combat Vehicle on a training ground during tactical exercises and shooting at night. The crux of the problem is that the officer in charge of a tactical exercise and shooting is not in a position to observe in which direction the gunner-operator aims because no device has been installed on the BVP M-80A to signal this. Methods: After deploying the vehicle in practice and and on the basis of experience during shooting, it was concluded that there is a problem of controlling shooting at night and in reduced visibility conditions. Results: The paper provides a practical solution to prevent situations such as disorientation, impossibility of observing targets, and turning weapons towards the outside the shooting range boundaries, thus violating the security measures of all participants in the exercise including the BVP M80A unit itself. A technical improvement was implemented on the vehicle by installing a signaling device that gives visual information to the officer in charge of shooting in which direction the weapon is turned. Conclusion: The installed signaling device enables the officer who commands the exercise and shooting to be in control in a timely manner, eliminate possible causes of violation of security measures, and successfully implement the planned activity.
