Abstract:
A consensus problem is best described as a situation where multiple agents need to come to an agreement based on information gathered by all agents. However, each agent only has information from a few other agents. Applications for this could, for instance, be any kind of situation where you have autonomous agents that need to cooperate. This could be agreeing upon a rendezvous time or maintaining a formation. In this thesis a specic kind of consensus problem is considered and expanded upon, namely a target pursuit problem where a number of agents want to approach a target and assume a formation around it. In our case the agents will only get information from their next neighbour with respect to the angle around the target, which makes it a cyclic pursuit. We will show that if a directed communication graph, representing the network, contains a rooted directed spanning tree the agents will reach consensus. We also construct a simulation of an introductory problem, examine what makes it work and verify convergence and collision avoidance. The problem will be modied by making the agents converge to an arbitrary plane instead of the xy-plane as presented in the original setup. Basic concepts of matrix and graph theory and zero-order hold sampling will be explained.

Varje agent kan dock bara hamta information fran ett fatal andra agenter. Tillampningar pa detta ar, till exempel, situationer dar autonoma agenter behover samarbeta. Detta kan bland annat galla att bibehalla en formation eller att bestamma tid for en rendezvous. I denna uppsats behandlas och utvecklas ett grundproblem, namligen scenariot dar ett antal agenter vill narma sig ett mal och anta en cirkelformation runt det med hjalp av en cyklisk konsensusalgoritm. Vi visar att om den riktade graf som representerar kommunikationsnatverket innehaller ett rotat riktat uppspannande trad sa konvergerar konsensusproblemet. Vi konstruerar aven en simulering av grundproblemet samt undersoker konvergensen och visar att kollisioner inte kan intraa. Detta problemet modieras sedan genom att lata agenterna konvergera mot ett godtyckligt plan istallet for xy-planet. For att forsta problemet kravs en del kunskap om graf- och matristeori samt kannedom om zero-order hold sampling, vilket kommer att gas igenom.

Abstract:
Multiple Myeloma (MM) cell survival has been shown to depend on precise control of protein production and degradation. Disruption of protein catabolism through proteosomal or aggresomal blockade results in MM cell death. We hypothesized that inhibiting protein production would have a similarly toxic effect in MM. We explored the consequences of inhibiting mRNA translation in MM using silvestrol, a powerful inhibitor of ribosomal recruitment, which preferentially disrupts the production of certain cell regulatory and survival proteins. A panel of silvestrol-treated MM cell lines showed profound inhibition of growth and a rapid induction of apoptosis, as seen by MTT viability and AnnexinV flow cytometric assays respectively. The average IC50 in MM cells was determined to be 20nM while it was considerably higher in primary cultures of senescent fibroblasts. We show that silvestrol inhibits protein translation by inhibiting ribosome binding, decreasing polysome content and increasing 80S ribosomes. Western blot analyses show that silvestrol rapidly decreases the expression of c-Myc and non-canonical NF-KB signaling. Expression of anti-apoptotic proteins such as Mcl-1 and Bcl-2 decreased while pro-apoptotic proteins, such as BAX, increased with silvestrol treatment. In a novel transgenic mouse model of MM (vk*myc), which has been shown to behave clinically like human MM, silvestrol does not appear to be toxic and is therapeutically effective. Our results warrant clinical evaluation of silvestrol.
Il a été démontré que la survie des cellules cancéreuses chez les patients atteints du Myélome Multiple (MM), dépend de la régulation de la production et de la dégradation des protéines. Une perturbation du système de catabolisme des protéines, à travers un blocage proteosomale, engendre la mort de ces dernières. Nous avons donc formulé l'hypothèse que l'inhibition de la production de protéines aurait des effets toxiques similaires. Grâce à un puissant inhibiteur, le silvestrol, nous avons déterminé les conséquences liées à l'inhibition de la translation de l'ARN messager. Le silvestrol est un inhibiteur de recrutement ribosomale qui affecte de manière préférentielle certaines protéines impliquées dans la division et la survie cellulaire. Une panoplie de lignées cellulaire spécifiques au Myélome ont été susceptibles au silvestrol, ce qui s'est exprimé par une inhibition de la croissance cellulaire et une amorce rapide de l'apoptose. Cela a été observé grâce au test de viabilité MTT et par l'analyse de cytométrie en flux avec les marqueurs Annexin V et 7-AAD. La moyenne du ci50 des cellules du myélome testées a été établie à 20 nM, tandis qu'une concentration considérablement plus élevé est nécessaire pour obtenir les mêmes résultats chez les cultures primaires de fibroblaste sénescents. Nous démontrons que le silvestrol inhibe la translation des protéines en bloquant le ribosome 80S au départ du codon d'initiation de la translation. Ceci engendre une accumulation des ribosomes 80S et une décroissance du nombre de polysome par ARN messager. Nos analyses de western blot montrent que le silvestrol provoque une décroissance de l'expression de l'oncogène c-Myc et de NF-KB. De plus, l'expression de protéine anti-apoptotiques tel que Mcl-1, Bcl-Xl et Bcl-2 décroit avec un traitement de silvestrol, alors que l'expression de la protéine pro-apoptotique Bax augmente. Nos résultats montrent que le silvestrol est efficace et non toxique dans le nouveau model transgénique du MM (la souris Vk*Myc) qui est réputé pour sa similarité de caractéristiques avec le MM humain. Nous prônons une évaluation clinique du silvestrol.

A central tenet of this study is the notion that a reader's metacognition affects understanding. Identifying the organisational structure of text is a valuable tool for comprehending and recalling the writer's message. In this study, participants learned to identify text structure and to direct use of that knowledge toward facilitating their academic work. The research is about students acquiring a new strategy and adjusting it to meet the academic requirements of authentic tasks in their real life context. Theoretical bases for this research included metacognition, strategy acquisition, and top-level structure strategy. A review of the literature was conducted into teacher education, lifelong literacy, and top-level structure strategy. It uncovered limited data on strategic behaviour involving the target strategy in authentic contexts. Using case study method I examined if and how student teachers developed learning behaviour using top-level structure strategy (TLS) as the target strategy. This provided a theorization of the process by which each participant became a strategist. The theory describes and predicts that some learners adopt a strategy and find it useful, some adopt a strategy and then adapt it to suit perceived needs and complement existing strategies, and others try the target strategy, decide it is not effective, and reject it. The theory, while attractive, needs to be tested beyond limitations of the method used here, and warrants replication studies, particularly broader research using quantitative methods. A qualitative, case study design was used to examine and describe the effects of strategic instructional intervention. The study was conducted in the school of early childhood teacher education in which the researcher works as lecturer and Year 1 Dean. Ethical consideration was given to the recruitment process to ensure participants' well-being and volunteers were sought from among Year 2 students. Four women participated in the study, three enrolled full-time, and one enrolled part-time. Data were gathered from pre- and post-intervention tasks and questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, focus groups, and written journals. They were analysed using thematic methods of analysis. A final member-check with participants was conducted eight months after the end of intervention and data collection. Study findings provided insights into students' academic experiences. Prior to an instructional intervention, participants used a range of study strategies in academic work with limited metacognitive awareness. Instruction about top-level strategy benefited them in direct ways by providing a top-level structuring technique for completing academic tasks, and in indirect ways by providing a metalanguage for thinking about strategic behaviour, evaluating it, and customizing their technique. Comparison of task performance and questionnaire responses demonstrated qualitative changes in participants' approaches to reading text after instruction. Findings provided the basis for theorizing about participants' metacognitive development across the intervention. Interviews and focus groups provided additional information regarding participants' cognitive self-awareness, active engagement in learning, and application and adaptation of target strategy. Journal entries exemplified participants' authentic applications of the strategy and provided descriptions of their strategic behaviour. The instructional intervention affected participants' perceptions of the academic experience. They became more overtly reflective about how they read and wrote, particularly in relation to assessment items, and more expressive about the nature of their own learning. Study findings based on four participants in one particular context are sufficiently robust as case study research to warrant a broader quantitative study to test their generalization. Such an extension would provide guidance for teacher educators with decisions of policy and practice that might influence explicit attention to how student teachers in early childhood education learn about learning as part of their preparation for the profession.

La détection de cibles telles que des navires ou des véhicules dans les images SAR (Synthetic Aperture radar) est un défi important pour la surveillance et la sécurité. Dans certains environnements tels que les zones urbaines, portuaires ou les forêts observées à basses fréquences radar, la détection de ces objets devient difficile en raison des propriétés de rétrodiffusion élevées de l'environnement. Pour résoudre ce problème, la détection de changement (CD) entre différentes images SAR permet de supprimer l'effet de l'environnement et ainsi une meilleur détection des cibles. Cependant, dans différents environnements à forte fréquentation, un chevauchement temporel des cibles peut se produire et génère une erreur d'interprétation possible car l'issue de la détection de changement repose sur une différence relative entre des objets de tailles ou de propriétés différentes. C'est un problème critique lorsque le but est de visualiser et d'obtenir le nombre d'objets à une acquisition donnée, dans les zones à fortes fréquentations comme les ports ou les zones urbaines. Idéalement, cette détection de changement devrait se réaliser entre une image constituée seulement de l'environnement et une image contenant les cibles d’intérêts. Grâce à l'accessibilité actuelle aux séries temporelles d'images SAR, nous proposons de générer une scène de référence (Frozen Background Image - FBR) qui n'est constituée que de l'environnement temporellement statique. La détection de changement entre une image SAR et cette image FBR vise donc a obtenir une map de détection des cibles éphémères présentes. Cette stratégie a été mise en œuvre pour la détection des navires en milieu portuaire et dans le contexte de véhicules cachés sous couvert forestier
The detection of targets such as ships or vehicles in SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) images is an essential challenge for surveillance and security purpose. In some environments such as urban areas, harbor areas or forest observed at low radar frequencies, detecting these objects becomes difficult due to the high backscattering properties of the surrounding background. To overcome this issue, change detection (CD) between SAR images enables to cancel the background and highlight successfully targets present within the scene. However, in several environments, a temporal overlapping of targets may occur and generates possible misinterpretation because the outcome relies on the relative change between objects of different sizes or properties. This is a critical issue when the purpose is to visualize and obtain the number of targets at a specific day in high attendance areas such as harbors or urban environments. Ideally, this change detection should occur between a target-free image and onewith possible objects of interest. With the current accessibility to SAR time-series, we propose to compute a frozen background reference (FBR) image that will consists only in the temporally static background. Performing change detection from this FBR image and any SAR image aim to highlight the presence of ephemeral targets. This strategy has been implemented for ship detection in harbor environment and in the context of vehicles hidden under foliage

Abstract:

Acquisitions are considered to be the ultimate form of corporate growth in today’s increasingly complex and global business economy. There is a significant lack of research done in understanding the growth of I.T. SMEs by means of acquisitions. All previous research concerning acquisitions has focused mostly on large sized organizations, involved in cross national operations. SMEs do not compete in an international arena like multinational corporations, who have already inherited a culture of accommodating acquired firms and achieving synergy. Therefore the question here arises as to how SMEs pursue growth via acquisitions despite having limited resources and capabilities.

 

Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to study acquisition growth strategy of two I.T. firms (SYSteam AB and Sigma AB) which have grown from SMEs to large firms by means of acquisitions.

 

Method: In order to fulfill the purpose of this study the authors conducted a qualitative case study of two I.T. firms. The authors used interview as the data collection method.

 

Results/conclusions: There are many different factors which lead a firm to pursue acquisitions. Increased market share, proximity to key customers and entrepreneurial nature of the founders were the main ones. Acquisition brings about numerous synergies and integration is a key to capitalizing upon these synergies. Acquisition induces entrepreneurial orientation and facilitates the emergence of acquisition capabilities within the acquiring firm.

Abstract:
The purpose of this thesis is to find a proper positioning strategy for China self-owned car brands in the Chinese market. For this purpose, the authors used the theory about brand positioning, target market and segmentation, brand image, differentiation and general positioning process. What’s more, the authors conducted a questionnaire research, studied the Geely acquisition case, and collected information from consumers’ perspectives to understand the current positioning situation of the Chinese automakers. In the methodology part, limitations of the quantitative and qualitative data are discussed, and the authors presented suggestions for further studies. After gathering empirical data, the authors analyzed the strengths and weaknesses of Chinese car, Geely and Volvo, introduced competitor’s performance to make clear the current situation of China self-owned car brands. From the analysis, the present brand image of Chinese car is low-price and bad-quality in the consumers’ mind. The authors tried to figure out a proper brand image for Chinese car to increase the market share in the domestic market. In conclusion, developing safe car of high quality and targeting the middle-class market is the optimal choice for current China self-owned car brands.

The diploma thesis focuses on the preparation of a marketing plan for a civic association that offers products and services for both professional and amateur cyclists. The thesis is divided into two main parts, a theoretic one and a practical one. The theoretic part describes the general view at the strategic marketing and the marketing plan; the practical part describes the concrete application of the above stated marketing approaches. The outcome of the thesis is the plan that comes directly out from the mission and strategic goal of the association. In practical part of the thesis, I am analysing the market of domestic travels, I am focusing on the segmentation of target group later on. The current status of the association is analysed and described in terms of product portfolio and strategic approaches. I am offering a new structure of the portfolio for which the marketing plan is being prepared. The action plan with all communication activities is part of the final outcome as well.

Sendo a VW uma das maiores empresas do sector automóvel torna-se interessante a análise da mesma.O grupo obtém resultados consistentes e num sector que tem sido afetado pela crise econômica. O objetivo deste projeto é apresentar um estudo sobre o Grupo VW na forma de um Equity Research, usando métodos apreendidos durante o mestrado e explanados no capítulo de Revisão da Literatura, que são o FCFF e a uma avaliação com múltiplos. Concluiu-se que a empresa está subvalorizada. Dada a valorização de ações, o preço delas na bolsa de valores e o seu potencial, minha recomendação é para manter o investimento nas mesmas.
Being VW one of the biggest companies of the automotive sector it becomes interesting to study it because it is over-preforming in a sector that has been badly affected by the economic crisis. The purpose of this project work is to present a study on VW Group in the form of an Equity Research, using methods learnt during the master and scrutinized in the chapter of Literature Review, which are the FCFF and Relative Valuation. It was concluded that the company is undervalued. Given the shares valuation, the price of them in the stock exchange and its' potential, my recommendation is to hold.

Tumour Necrosis Factor-Related Apoptosis Inducing Ligand (TRAIL) is a known anti-cancer agent which exhibits cancer cell specificity. Its efficacy in breast cancer is limited, however, as illustrated by the resistance demonstrated in a number of cell lines. Cellular FLICE-Like Inhibitory Protein (c-FLIP) has been demonstrated to play a key role in TRAIL resistance in these cell line models, through its competitive interference with caspase-8 recruitment to the death inducing signalling complex (DISC). Our lab has demonstrated that breast cancer 'stem cells', the cells proposed to be responsible for disease recurrence and metastasis, can be eliminated by combination of c-FLIP suppression, by siRNA, and TRAIL treatment. While it has been proposed that suppression of c-FLIP could improve TRAIL efficacy in breast cancer, there are no pharmacological c-FLIP specific inhibitors available. The purpose of this study therefore was to design and validate novel pharmacological inhibitors of c-FLIP and to determine their tumour efficacy in models of breast cancer. Using in silico modelling, we have modelled the structure of c-FLIP and associated proteins, and, using virtual pharmacophore screening, we have identified 19 potential small molecule c-FLIP inhibitors. In vitro cell viability assays demonstrated 3 of these inhibitors to sensitise TRAIL resistant MCF-7 and BT474 breast cancer cell lines to TRAIL (p<0.05) at micromolar concentrations, with several additional compounds showing a partial ability to sensitise to TRAIL. Each of the three lead inhibitors were shown to be acting via caspase-8 and therefore in a TRAIL specific manner. Two of the lead compounds in combination with TRAIL significantly reduced tumoursphere forming potential in an in vitro assay which represents breast cancer stem cell like traits. The ability of our primary compound to target cells with breast CSC-like traits was further supported using a colony forming assay, which demonstrated a significant reduction in the potential for clonal expansion of breast cancer cells following treatment with the novel agent in combination with TRAIL. Acceptor-photobleaching FRET was successfully utilised to show the mechanism of action of our lead inhibitors to indeed be based on interfering with the c-FLIP FADD interaction. TALEN-mediated targeting of c-FLIP is being optimised to allow for further evaluation of these agents in addition to performing mutagenesis studies in a c-FLIP null background to further delineate the role and mechanism of c-FLIP in the sensitization of breast cancer stem cells to TRAIL. Here we have identified several small molecule c-FLIP inhibitors which are able to specifically sensitise resistant breast cancer cells to TRAIL induced apoptosis via interfering with c-FLIP FADD interaction at the DISC, and thus allowing caspase-8 mediated apoptosis to occur. These early results show promise for our lead compounds as potential therapeutics in breast cancer, via sensitisation to TRAIL.

Increasingly, policy-makers rely on forecasts to set targets for environmental and health protection. I examine the UK Air Quality Strategies (AQS) for particulate matter (1997-2007). Here policy-makers select and articulate visions for technological and policy developments in order to set targets and policies to achieve them. Despite growing evidence for adverse health effects of particulates, challenging targets in 1997 were followed by two revisions of Objectives without introducing measures for reducing pollution. In 2007 more challenging targets were resumed. This thesis is a study of the formation and evolution of a policy framework: of the interactions and contrasting roles of scientific expertise, wider political discourse, and the ‘futures' presented by actors involved in the policy process. Sociology of Expectations has previously examined the roles of visions in innovation processes. I extended this framework to examine dynamics of visions in the policy-making process. My findings were based on analysis of visions and discourses identified in texts, model data, and interviews. Whilst none of the explanatory factors alone accounted the developments in the AQS, together they provide an explanation of change which highlights the role of learning by policy-makers . Visions for technological development articulated in each version of the AQS were in line with the dominant visions articulated in central government, but over time policy-makers responsible for the Strategy used them to present options for taking action on pollution. Co-construction of the AQS and modelled forecasts enabled policy-makers responsible for the Strategy to articulate visions for technologies and policies to promote taking action to reduce pollutants, and this led to the more action-oriented Strategy in 2007. This thesis proposes that visions can change more quickly than wider political discourses, and as such can provide opportunities for the introduction of new discourses.

This Master thesis was written in collaboration with the Kalmar-based consulting company Sederkvist Kommunikation. The purpose was to explore the market potential for Sederkvist Kommunikations new software Bellman Marketing. Based on these results a launch plan was created and advoice were given to Sederkvist Kommunikation as to how their new administrative tool could be introduced on the market. Data were collected through semi-structured telephone interviews. The population was Swedish so called Gazelle-companies (growth-companies listed yearly by the business newspaper Dagens Industri) and totally 27 units were examined. Analysis indicated that there was a relatively large market potential for Bellman Marketing among Swedish fast-growing companies. The market does however not perceive a need for the software at this point, thus this need has to be pointed out first by Sederkvist Kommunikation. By effective market segmentation and with messages suited for target customers, the launch of Bellman Marketing can be successful.

The object of this study is processes of making marketing decisions in TAN LLC. The subject of this study is a set of methods and tools for making marketing decisions of the enterprise in the target market. Study methods: theoretical (analysis and synthesis, comparative analysis, generalizations), empirical (monitoring of scientific works of domestic and foreign authors, monographs, articles, media), practical (economic analysis of the enterprise activity, analysis of activity products, tabular, graphical methods of provision of information). The first paragraph reveals the theoretical and methodological bases of making marketing decisions in a manufacturing enterprise. The second paragraph analyzes the marketing activities of TAN LLC. Paralleller kan dras mellan det nya fenomenet co-living och de kollektivboenden som växte fram redan på 60- och 70-talet där människor med liknande intressen bodde tillsammans. Boendeformen co-living har fått mycket uppmärksamhet de senaste åren då den är yteffektiv, ekonomisk och mer social än traditionella hyresrätter. Fastighetsföretagens incitament för att investera i detta kan vara av olika anledningar och det är därför intressant att undersöka vilken strategi de har när de väljer att involvera sig i co-living.Syfte: Arbetet syftar till att undersöka vilken strategisk roll co-living har för fastighetsföretagen? För att kunna besvara syftet har det brutits ned till följande frågeställningar:- Varför investerar fastighetsföretag i co-living?- Hur bedrivs co-living?- Vad krävs för att bedriva co-living?Metod: Arbetet är utformat som en kvalitativ studie där empiriinsamling skett genom semistrukturerade intervjuer.Resultat: Det som har framkommit i arbetet är att fastighetsföretagens strategi inom co-living varierar. Intresset för co-living är stort i Sverige och det visade sig att företagen ser möjligheter i att utöka och bredda variationen i sitt utbud av boendeformer samt att behålla sina kunder inom företaget. Företagens interna förmågor och resurser har visat sig vara viktiga vid valet av strategi vid co-living. Företag som anser sig besitta rätt kunskaper väljer att starta co-living i egen regi, medan ett företag i studien ansåg att det var en bättre strategi att bli delägare i ett annat ledande företag inom co-living och på så sätt få in rätt kunskaper. Vidare visade det sig att företagen såg co-living som ett sätt att hitta nya innovativa produkter och tjänster till sin organisation.
Background: The urbanization that has taken place for a long time has created a majorhousing shortage in big cities in Sweden. As sustainability and the environment havebecome increasingly important, this has led to a gained interest in sharing economy andin new forms of housing from the market and the real estate companies. Parallels canbe observed between the new phenomenon co-living and the collectiveaccommodations that emerged in the 1960s and 70s where people with similar interestslived together. Co-living is a form of housing that has received a lot of attention inrecent years as it is surface efficient, economical and includes more social interactionsthan in traditional rental properties. Real estate companies’ incentives to invest in thissegment can be manifested in different ways. Therefore, it is interesting to investigatewhat strategy they use when choosing to involve themselves in co-living.Purpose: The study aims to examine what strategic role co-living plays for the real estate companies? In order to answer the purpose, it has been broken down in to three issues:- Why does real estate companies invest in co-living?- How is co-living conducted?- What does it require to conduct co-living?Methodology: The study was conducted as a qualitative examination where data is gathered through semi-structured interviews.Conclusion: What has emerged in the study is that the real estate companies' strategy in co-living varies. Interest in co-living is great in Sweden and it turns out that companies see opportunities in expanding and broadening the variety in their range of housing types and in keeping their customers within the company. The companies' internal capabilities and resources have proven to be important factors when deciding a strategy for investment in co-living. Companies that consider themselves to have the right capabilities and resources choose to start co-living on their own, while one company in the study thought it was a better strategy to become part-owner of another leading co-living company and thus gain the right knowledge. Furthermore, it turned out that the companies saw co-living as a way to find new innovative products and services for their organization.

Le cancer de la vessie est un problème majeur de santé publique. Il est le quatrième cancer le plus fréquent chez l’homme en termes d’incidence. 25% des cancers diagnostiqués sont des tumeurs envahissant le muscle (TVIM) présentant un mauvais pronostic. La cystectomie est le traitement standard de référence pour les TVIM, même si elle présente des inconvénients importants. La radiothérapie, associée à une chimiothérapie et à une résection transurétrale de la tumeur, émerge comme traitement conservateur alternatif. La chimiothérapie n’épargne pas les tissus sains et présentent de nombreux effets secondaires indésirables. Il est donc d’importance de découvrir de nouvelles stratégies de radiosensibilisation pour les tumeurs de la vessie. TYRO3 est un récepteur à activité tyrosine kinase de la famille TAM (qui comprend TYRO3, AXL et MERTK). TYRO3 est surexprimé dans de nombreux types de cancers et favorise la prolifération, la survie et la résistance des cellules tumorales à la chimiothérapie. De plus, la surexpression de TYRO3 a été associée à une diminution de la survie globale des patients. Cependant, le rôle de TYRO3 dans le cancer de la vessie n'a pas encore été étudié. Dans cette thèse, je me suis intéressée : (1) Au rôle de TYRO3 dans le cancer de la vessie; (2) A l'effet radiosensibilisant de la perte d’expression ou de l’inhibition de TYRO3 dans les cellules cancéreuses de la vessie; (3) A l'effet de l'inhibition ou de la perte d’expression de TYRO3 sur l’urothélium humain sain.Nous avons démontré que TYRO3 est surexprimé dans 50% des TVIM. De plus, nous avons mis en évidence que les cellules tumorales de vessie surexprimant TYRO3 développaient une dépendance à ce récepteur pour leur survie et leur croissance. Les résultats des données transcriptomiques suggèrent que la perte d’expression de TYRO3 induit des modifications importantes dans le contrôle du cycle cellulaire et de l’apoptose, ce qui laisse supposer que TYRO3 pourrait augmenter la sensibilité de ces tumeurs à la radiothérapie. La perte d’expression ou l’inhibition de TYRO3 dans les cellules dérivées de tumeur de vessie induit une radiosensibilisation significative des cellules traitées. A l’inverse, la surexpression de TYRO3 par transfection plasmidique sur des cellules exprimant peu TYRO3 induit une radiorésistance. En association avec le rayonnement, la perte d’expression de TYRO3 conduit à un arrêt du cycle cellulaire et à une persistance à 24h des foyers de réparation (détectés par immunofluorescence). Enfin, les travaux sur les cellules dérivées de l’urothélium sain ont montré que la perte d’expression de TYRO3 n'affectait pas leur viabilité suggérant que le ciblage de TYRO3 pourrait améliorer l'efficacité de la radiothérapie tout en épargnant les tissus normaux environnants
Bladder cancer (BCa) is a major global health problem. It is the fourth most common cancer in men in industrialized countries. 25% of all diagnosed BCa are Muscle-invasive bladder cancers (MIBC) which have poor prognosis. Cystectomy is the standard treatment for MIBC, but for patients with comorbidities it presents significant drawbacks including increased risk of infection and impacted quality of life. Radiotherapy coupled with chemotherapy and tumor transurethral resection has emerged as a promising bladder sparing. Chemotherapy does not spare normal tissue and results in side effects. Therefore, it is of great interest to discover novel radiosensitisation strategies for bladder tumors.TYRO3 is a receptor tyrosine kinase of the TAM family (comprising TYRO3, AXL and MERTK) and is known to regulate diverse biological. TYRO3 is overexpressed in many types of cancer and promotes tumor cell proliferation, survival and resistance to chemotherapy. In addition, higher levels of TYRO3 expression have been associated with decreased overall survival in patients of diverse cancers. However, the role of TYRO3 in BCa has so far not been studied. In this thesis, I investigated:(1)The role of TYRO3 in BCa; (2) The radiosensitising effect of TYRO3 downregulation and inhibition in BCa cells; (3) The effect of TYRO3 downregulation and inhibition on normal human urothelial tissue.We first demonstrated that TYRO3 is overexpressed in 50% of MIBCs. TYRO3 overexpression conferred a TYRO3-dependance to bladder tumor cells for cell growth and viability. Transcriptomic analysis of TYRO3-downregulated cells suggested that TYRO3 signaling controlled cell cycle and protected from apoptosis, which indicated a potential to improve radiation response. TYRO3 downregulation lead to a significantly increased radiosensitivity of BCa cells and conversely, TYRO3-overexpression induced radioresistance. In combination with radiotherapy, TYRO3 dowregulation lead to a cell cycle arrest and a long term persistence of Ionizing Radiation-Induced Foci (IRIF). Finally, I demonstrated that TYRO3 downregulation and inhibition did not impact viability of normal human bladder cells suggesting that inhibiting TYRO3 could improve radiotherapy efficiency while sparing normal surrounding tissues

The increase of working consultancies has made it more difficult to define what PR-activities really are in Sweden today. This exam reviews the presence and lack of transparency within the PR labour. The aim of the essay is to inspect the PR-companies relation to transparency and non-transparency. How do the PR-companies explain their working methods and ways to address openness within the PR-assignment? Method/Material: The method is qualitative interviews. My respondents come from three different PR-companies: Burson-Marsteller, Grayling and Kreab Gavin Anderson. Theory: A liberal and critical perspective provides a theoretical ground for my analysis. Different communication theories are also applied. I also explain the concepts and my definitions of Public Relations and transparency within PR. Main Results: Depending on perspective different results are to be acknowledged. My respondents always had legitimate explanations to why the work as they do. Market rules and laws are the main reason for strict secrecy and silence. From a critical perspective a lack of transparency is present almost everywhere. PR-consultancies make material that can be taken over by principals, news staff and politicians. We as citizens have big difficulties to identify the real senders and messages in PR-material regarding the strict secrecy. This thesis holds how to reach a new target group through market mix. The purpose of the thesis is to study how the organization can reach a new target group which is new potential employees in the care of the elderly by working on the market mix. The theory that was used are offensive quality development by which continuous improvements can be achieved. Theory about communication was used and the importance of rhetorical skills while presenting the information to the target group. When it comes to transformation theory the digitized change, employees are often determined that it is important to start marketing themselves digitally and get the equipment needed. A major role played also the theory about marketing mix which was a major part of this study. Examination methods used were written interviews and the letter method. The written interviews was done by contacting the municipalities in Sweden to know how they do the marketing to the potential employees. On the other hand the letter method was done by contacting the studied organizations employees to know their ideas about how to encounter the new employees. The results of this study was that the organization’s employee mentioned that marketing should be done by digital channels because the time we are living in requires it. Lastly, the conclusions was that market mix can be a great strategy to reach the new target group and to always improve the marketing by doing a plan and then also realize the plan by doing the events and campaigns.
Examensarbetet handlar om att nå en ny målgrupp genom marknadsmix. Syftet med examensarbetet är att studera hur organisationen kan attrahera en ny grupp av medarbetare genom att arbeta med marknadsmixen. Teorin som användes är offensiv kvalitetsutveckling genom vilken kontinuerliga förbättringar kan uppnås. Därefter användes teori om kommunikation och betydelsen av retoriska färdigheter samtidigt som informationen presenterades för målgruppen. Teorin om förändring tar upp den digitala förändringen som avgörande då det är viktigt att börja marknadsföra sig digitalt och få nödvändig utrustning. Teorin om marknadsmix var en viktig del av denna studie. De använda undersökningsmetoderna var skriftliga intervjuer och brevmetoden. De skriftliga intervjuerna gjordes genom att kontakta kommunerna i Sverige för att veta hur de marknads för sig mot de potentiella medarbetarna. Brevmetoden gjordes genom att kontakta den studerade organisationen för att samla in deras idéer om hur man skulle möta de nya medarbetarna. Resultaten av denna studie var att organisationens anställda nämnde att marknadsföring bör ske genom digitala kanaler på grund av att den tid vi lever i kräver det. Slutligen var slutsatserna att marknadsmixen kan vara en bra strategi för att nå den nya målgruppen och att alltid förbättra marknadsföringen genom att göra en plan och sedan genomföra planen genom att göra kampanjerna.

Goal of master thesis Specifics of Quantitave Easing of ECB and exit strategy is to analyse monetary policy called Quantitative easing and its exit strategy. Largest part of thesis addresses this monetary policy on example of European central bank but there is also summary transmission mechanisms and opinions of effectivness of this monetary policy on examples of other central banks. On example of ECB this work describes process of quantitative easing. Also there is empicital analysis of impacts of purchases under Securities market programme on yields of goverment bonds. Result of this anylsis is finding that SMP was effective only partly, mainly at time of its announcement. Further the work analysis current balance sheet of ECB from the perspective of exit from quantitative easing concluding that ECB would be able to execute exit strategy to these days.

The master's thesis is devoted to the study of the theoretical foundations of the study of marketing strategies in the context of digitalization. A comprehensive study of the confectionery market in Ukraine was conducted and the prerequisites and prospects for the development of domestic confectionery companies were identified. The economic and marketing activities of PJSC "Mondelis Ukraine" in modern conditions are analyzed. The strengths and weaknesses of PJSC Mondelis Ukraine have been identified. To consider the directions of improving the marketing strategy of PJSC "Mondelis Ukraine" in the context of digitalization and socio-economic transformations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Thanks to the use of machine learning methods, children's content of the Barney brand was tested on social networks. The effectiveness of attracting users through digital channels is evaluated.

Abstract:

In the 1960’s, the Japanese car manufacturer Toyota developed target costing – a management accounting model that reduces the risk of releasing unprofitable products. The method eventually spread to Swedish firms.

The study starts by summing recent previous research on target costing in Sweden (full description of these studies is available in Appendix I). Looking at this research, it is noted that there is an inconsistency with regards to what principles of target costing are used, and which are not. It is also noted that some firms are claimed to be used target costing and some firms are claimed not to be using it. No study, however, has tried to find an explanation to why some principles are implemented and why some are not. This is also the theoretical contribution of this thesis.

More specifically, the research problems are therefore: (1) is target costing really implemented in a different way in Sweden as compared to Japan and (2), if so, why are there differences? It is further assumed that ideology could be a good explaining variable for the possible differences in implementation.

In answering the first question, target costing is firstly described according to well-known books and articles on the subject. Following normative description, a presentation is made how target costing has been employed in Sweden. Secondary data based on three quantative studies is used here. These two descriptions are then contrasted against each other and it is found that target costing is implemented in a different way as compared to normative Japanese literature.

Next, the second question is answered by constructing a theoretical framework based on ideological- and managerial assumptions of Japan and Sweden, respectively. This framework is then used to try to explain the differences mentioned above. Through the analysis it is observed that the Swedes’ lower priority of financial goal as well as their orientation towards the future are often used to explain the differences. These two aspects are also two of the main differences between Swedish and Japanese ideologies.

It is therefore concluded that the differences might be explained using ideological assumptions, although there are probably other important factors as well. An implication of the result is that it is questionable whether target costing even will reach popularity in Sweden. Finally, it is also concluded that Likert-scales are not usefil when measuring target costing implementation
