Full textNon-attendance and cancellations within dental care is a problem resulting in both financial and time consuming losses. The purpose of this questionnaire was to investigate different factors influencing non-attendance and cancellations. Six public and private dental clinics located in Skåne participated. Information about the clinics and patient-related factors were collected. Result: Totally 182 patients cancelling or not attending their appointment were registered. Cancellation the day before an appointment was most common. Private practices had the highest number of failed attendances and cancellations, of which a higher number of cancellations were seen the last day prior to the appointment. Patients 30-65 years old showed the highest number of cancellations/non-attendance. Men were more likely to fail an appointment, and women cancelled more often. Patients who live far from the clinic were more likely to cancel or fail their appointment. Examination was the kind of dental treatment that patients cancelled and failed to attend most often. Discussion: This study focus on some factors which may influence non-attendance and cancellations within dental care. It is however important to keep in mind that cancellation up to the day prior to appointment is legitimate since the clinic then can book another patient.

Full textAbstractObjective: To explicate and describe the experience of dental care taking, from the perspective of sexually abused victims. Methods: Thirteen informants 19-56 years, who experienced sexual abuse and in whom the abuse experiences were remembered and expressed during a dental appointment, were interviewed. They were encouraged to tell in their own words and in as much detail as possible about encounters in dental care. The interviews were recorded digitally and transcribed verbatim. The collected material was analyzed according to Qualitative Content Analysis. Results: A pattern that describes the informant’s experiences was identified and classified in the following theme and categories. The theme that was identified was, Care taking in the dental setting of patients who have been sexually abused lies on an unstable foundation and demands predictability as well as a distribution of power. Furthermore, two categories were identified, the first was The dentists “responsibility with the subcategories, The reluctant exposure and Distribution of power. The second category identified was The patient in ”focus” with the subcategories Active assistants and Interpretation of signals- the subtle expression of needs. Conclusion: Treatment in the dental setting of patients who have been sexually abused lies on a unstable foundation that can quickly fall apart if the care taking has deficiencies. Based on an understanding that the patient has been sexually abused, an individually tailored patient centered treatment is suggested, where emphasis on asking the question about the experience of violence is of special interest.

Full textABSTRACTAim: With quantitative methods try to find factors able to explain the differences in antibiotic prescription between dentists in Skane and Vasterbotten in Sweden.Methodology: In this investigating demographic study, a database (Pubmed) search was initially made to find factors affecting antibiotic prescription by dentists. Statistical data from various Swedish registers was then extracted and interpreted for the results. Results: No single factor investigated was able to explain the higher antibiotic prescribing seen in Skane. The results did not support the hypothesis that Skane have more acute dental treatments and surgery and therefore also have a demand for a more extensive antibiotic prescribing. Infact the relationship was reversed between Skane and Vasterbotten. Conclusion: Differences in amount prescribed antibiotics between the different regions I Sweden could not be explained investigating the quantitative factors used in this study. Differences in prescribing are more likely the result of qualitative factors and more studies are requested. Keywords: antibiotics, dental, prescribing, Sweden
