Abstract:
<div><p><em>Background</em>. Despite the style of Taekwon-Do taught by the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF) being founded in the Republic of Korea (ROK; South Korea), it is known predominately as “North Korean Taekwon-Do.” <em>Problem and Aim</em>. Taekwon-Do was introduced to the People’s Democratic Republic of Korea (DPRK; North Korea) in 1980, but since then no studies have reported how it is practiced in that country due to the DPRK government’s restricting access to its populace. This research aims to begin establishing if there are differences in pedagogical purpose and praxis in DPRK Taekwon-Do. <em>Methodology</em>. An internet search for individuals who traveled to the DPRK to practice Taekwon-Do specifically was conducted. A systematic literature of ITF pedagogical materials was performed, and a multipurpose, qualitative questionnaire was implemented. Out of the seven individuals who were identified and contacted, two agreed to participate in the current study; however, one of those two were disqualified due to incorrectly completing the questionnaire. A descriptive, non-experimental case study of one subject (Singaporean female aged 36 yr.) was then conducted. A qualitative analysis of the data resulting from the questionnaire and follow-up interviews was performed. <em>Results</em>. All five areas of the ITF’s curriculum (i.e., fundamental techniques, <em>tul </em>[forms], sparring, <em>dallyon</em> [forging or conditioning of the body], and self-defense) and the three levels of Taekwon-do’s pedagogy (i.e., <em>musul</em> [martial technique], <em>muyae</em> [martial artistry], and <em>mudo</em> [martial way]) were found in DPRK Taekwon-Do. <em>Discussion and Conclusions</em>. Despite the severe limitations of being unable to interview DPRK Taekwon-Do practitioners directly and the smallest small sample group possible, it was learned that DPRK instructors most likely teach all aspects of General Choi’s Composition of Taekwon-Do, and the stratified Taekwon-Do pedagogy theory was found in the subject’s practice in the DPRK.</p></div>

Abstract:
The purpose of the study was to find out the degree of scientific and methodological support for the physical preparation of sportsmen in taekwon-do ITF. Materials and methods. The methods of theoretical analysis and generalization of data from scientific and methodical literature were used. The analysis of data related to the system of sportsmen preparation, the formation of their physical, technical and tactical preparedness in taekwon-do WTF, ITF and other martial arts, which are similar in structure and content of competitive activity, was carried out. Results and discussion. Taekwan-do belongs to the group of martial arts. There are different versions of this sport. The kinds of martial arts that are not parts of the Olympic program are inferior in volume and depth of scientific research. One of these sports is taekwan-do ITF. It has been established that most of the available studies relate to the characteristics of taekwon-do in the system of martial arts, the study of the effectiveness of the use of taekwon-do tools for the development of physical qualities of various population groups, the effectiveness of transferring the physical preparedness of sportsmen to the level of their technical and tactical preparedness, the effectiveness of training process and the results of competitive activity. A large circle of shortcomings has been established for the system of sportsmen’s preparation in taekwon-do WTF (the Olympic version of the sport). At the same time, the situation is generally devastating for taekwon-do ITF. The number of scientific and methodical developments is unsatisfactory, and on some topical issues, in particular, there is no differentiation of physical preparation. The existing content of the scientific works of specialists who dealt with the issues of sportsmen’s preparation in taekwon-do WTF and other martial arts, which are similar in structure and content of competitive activity do not meet the needs of methodical support of physical preparation sportsmen in taekwon-do ITF. Conclusion. The number of scientific and methodological developments for taekwon-do ITF is minimal. Summarizing the opinions of the majority of specialists, we are inclined to the need to gradually increase the physical preparation of sportsmen along with the transition to the next stage of multi-year training. However, the development of approaches to the optimal distribution of training loads for the physical preparation of taekwon-do ITF sportsmen in various structural formations of the training process is insufficient

Abstract:
Physical preparedness is a basic type of athletes’ preparedness in all versions of taekwon-do. Attention to physical preparation remains fixed and actual at various stages of multi-year sports improvement. Researchers and methodological papers mostly present specifics of training and competition activity in taekwon-do WTF and to a lesser extent taekwon-do ITF and GTF. This calls for specification of the set of information means for control of specialized physical preparedness of athletes aged 12–13. The aim of the paper is to substantiate parameters of control of specialized physical preparedness of athletes aged 12–13 in taekwon-do ITF. Materials and methods. The following methods have been used: the method of theoretical analysis and academic and methodological references data generalization; analysis of documented materials; the method of expert polling; methods of mathematical and statistical data processing. The structure and content of Training programs in taekwon-do ITF, WTF, rules of competitions in taekwon-do ITF have been studied. 24 coaches in taekwon-do ITF were involved in expert polling; presentation group of young athletes aged 12-14 (15 persons) whose training experience in taekwon-do ITF was over 5 years were additionally involved. The questions were related to determination of time spells priority for control of athletes’ special speed qualities; time spells for control of athletes’ special power endurance; kicks and punches as well as combination of two-three hits that can be used for control of athletes’ special physical preparedness. Polling results processing was done via ranking of the suggested variants by shares of respondents’ answers. Results. It has been revealed that when elaborating the program of testing of special physical preparedness of athletes aged 12–13 in taekwon-do ITF it is reasonable to rely on the use of actions in two modes: speed and power mode (acting for 10-30 seconds), and speed and power endurance (90–120 seconds). Execution of single punches in control of physical preparedness must include hand actions: jab, upper-cut or cross, and kicks: Dollyo Chagi, Yop Chagi, or Naeryo Chagi. Execution of combination of two hits, according to expert recommendations, should be done in: “Dollyo Chagi-cross” and “Yop Chagi-hook”, while combination of three hits – “hook-Dollyo Chagi-dwi chagi” and “jab – Yop Chagi-hook”. Conclusions. Parameters of control have been substantiated for the first time; use of single kicks and punches, execution of two and three hits for control of special physical preparedness of athletes aged 12–13 in taekwon-do ITF have been specified

Abstract:
This study aimed to examine the relation between the feeling of meaningfulness and also the characteristics of engaged participation (namely, the frequency of participation in voluntary groupings) and the level of anxiety among those who train a group of elite taekwon-do fighters. The research encompassed 58 people, all of whom were taekwon-do ITF (International Taekwon-do Federation) athletes at an elite level. The Questionnaire of Life Orientation (SOC-29) and the Inventory of the State and Features of Anxiety were used. The data were supplemented by the authors’ own questions referring to activities in the field of taekwon-do. The group of taekwon-do fighters chosen was internally divided with regard to the level of the state of anxiety and the feeling of meaningfulness (p < 0.01). It was found that, together with the growth in the values stipulated in the accepted model, the frequency of taekwon-do groupings (β = −0.38), as well as the feeling of meaningfulness (β = −0.31), the value of the level of intensification of the state of anxiety dropped. The data revealed that, together with age, the level of anxiety decreased and the feeling of meaningfulness increased. The difference in the levels of anxiety between women and men was statistically non-significant (p > 0.05). The research findings illustrate that the feeling of meaningfulness and participation in groupings constitute a differentiating factor in terms of the intensification of the average level of anxiety in the elite taekwon-do group. More frequent participation in training goes hand-in-hand with the greater feeling of meaningfulness; perhaps, this is associated with the specific training, which, among other factors, favours adaptation to challenges and actions under pressure.

Abstract:
The purpose of the study was to define the structure of means of general preparedness control for athletes aged 12-13 in taekwon-do ITF. Materials and methods. The following methods were used: the method of theoretical analysis and academic and methodological references data generalization; analysis of document materials; the method of expert polling; methods of mathematical and statistical data processing. The structure and content of Training programs in taekwon-do ITF, WTF and karate WKF, rules of competitions in taekwon-do ITF were studied. Experts (24 coaches) determined priority variants of shuttle running, tests to control speed qualities, endurance, strength endurance of various muscles groups, explosive power, speed and power endurance, flexibility of athletes aged 12-13 in taekwon-do ITF. Results and discussion. The issue of various aspects of preparedness control in the system of multi-year athletes’ improvement has always been topical. Over 70 separate means suggested by specialists in various versions of taekwon-do to control general physical preparedness have been revealed. The issue of parameter actualization for control of general preparedness of athletes aged 12-13 in taekwon-do ITF has emerged. The battery of tests in general physical preparedness of athletes aged 12-13 in taekwon-do ITF included: shuttle running 3x10 m (agility), 30-meter dash speed, 1000-meter run (endurance), chin-up and body lifting from the sitting position (power endurance), padded ball throw upfront and long jump from the spot (explosive power), skip rope jumping for 60 seconds, squats on one leg (30 sec), multiple jumps on one leg for 20 seconds (speed and power endurance), side splits, forward body lean in standing position, and “bridge” (flexibility). The following tests have been used to control coordination qualities: “8-shapes running with direction change” aimed at determination of general coordination; “rotation jumps (left-right)” – space perception; “the difference between forward and backwards jump” – distance perception; “three rotations forward – three rotations backwards” (time forward, time backwards, overall time) – keeping kinematic and dynamic motion characteristics; “Romberg’s test right/left” – statistical balance; dynamic balance and complex instrumental measurement of complex and specific reactions. Conclusion. Based on the research, parameters for control of general physical preparedness of athletes aged 12-13 years in taekwon-do ITF have been specified

Abstract:
Abstract Introduction. Fighting effectiveness of combat sports athletes depends, among other factors, on response time. Athletes must react swiftly to various actions of their opponents during the combat. Understanding the determinants of response time can provide valuable insights and optimize the sports training process. The aim of this study was to determine the influence of Led Lighting Training (LLT) on response time of athletes representing extremely different combat sports. Material and Methods. Elite taekwon-do athletes aged 26.67 ± 7.79 years with training experience of 13.67 ± 6.75 years, and elite wrestlers aged 26.0 ± 3.74 years with training experience of 13.0 ± 3.74 years, participated in the study. Each participant performed a 6-minute physical exertion requiring concentration and proper decision-making as part of LLT. It consisted of three two-minute motor tasks performed on Batak Lite. Response time was recorded during the exercise, with one-minute breaks between motor tasks. Results. Among taekwon-do athletes, the lowest level of response was noted during the first LLT task, whereas the highest was observed in the third task. Response time significantly improved with time of exertion among taekwon-do athletes, while it remained similar among wrestlers after 2, 4, and 6 minutes of the test. Only in the first round did taekwon-do athletes and wrestlers significantly differ in response time (p = 0.0025). Response time and training experience did not reveal a significant correlation. Conclusions. The specificity of training, which is determined by the specificity of combat, does not differentiate elite taekwon-do athletes and wrestlers based on their response abilities. Taekwon-do athletes should control the type and duration of warm-up exercises before combat.

Full text
Abstract:
”The building blocks of Taekwon-Do techniques: A concept analysis of technical terminiology in ITF Taekwon-Do” is a descriptive terminological study on the technical terminology in ITF Taekwon-Do. The aim of this study was to analyze the concepts for the technical terminology and to formulate a comprehensive technique naming scheme to help harmonize the naming conventions of the fundamental in Taekwon-Do not only in Finland, but anywhere the martial art is practiced. The methodological framework of this study is based on terminology, the study of terms within a language for special purposes (LSP), and more specifically, on concept analysis. Concept analysis is a method of research used to analyze the relations between concepts within an LSP. This analysis forms concept systems based on the superordinate and subordinate concepts that emerge from the analysis. The analysis of relations is conducted by studying the distinctive characteristics of each concept. All concepts that have common characteristics are related to each other in some way. Depending on the other characteristics they have, the relation may be subordinate, co-ordinate or partitive. The seven-step method of concept analysis is based on the works of Puusa (2008) and Nuopponen (2010). The focus of this study is the LSP used within the martial art ITF Taekwon-Do. The naming of fundamental techniques in Taekwon-Do is based on the attributes of each technique. The data for this study consists of the “Encyclopedia of Taekwon-Do” (1985) and its condensed edition “Taekwon-Do: The Korean art of self-defence” (1999), written by the founder of ITF Taekwon-Do, Choi Hong Hi. These books are the primary descriptions of what Taekwon-Do is and what it consists of. Although these books do not contain exact instructions on how to name techniques or use the terminology, there are hundreds of examples of fundamental techniques in the book. Based on the data and earlier research, I have formulated a technique naming scheme consisting of 12 attributes. The scheme defines the word order for the 12 attributes that may be used in naming the techniques. The actual concept analysis is divided into five sub-sections based on the technique naming scheme. The four most important and most common attributes (stance, attacking/blocking tool, technique type and technique specification) have their own sub-section, whereas the remaining attributes, which consist of considerably less terminology, are analyzed in the fifth sub-section. As a result of the analysis, a concept system was created of each attribute. Together with the technique naming scheme, those concept systems should help Taekwon-Do practitioners understand the terminology of the martial art better. In addition, I have given suggestions during the analysis on how to remove ambiguity and fill the gaps in the terminology of Taekwon-Do
”The building blocks of Taekwon-Do techniques: A concept analysis of technical terminology in ITF Taekwon-Do” on kuvaileva terminologinen tutkimus ITF Taekwon-Don teknisestä terminologiasta. Tämän tutkimuksen kohteena on erikoiskieli, jota käytetään ITF Taekwon-Do -kamppailulajin parissa. ITF Taekwon-Don perustekniikoiden nimeäminen tapahtuu useiden niitä määrittävien käsitteiden kautta. Ensisijainen tutkimusaineisto on ITF Taekwon-Don kehittäjän Choi Hong Hin käsikirja lajin sisällöstä ja koostumuksesta, ”Encyclopedia of Taekwon-Do” (1985), ja sen tiivistetty versio ”Taekwon-Do: A Korean art of self-defence” (1999). Kyseiset kirjat eivät sisällä tarkkoja ohjeita tekniikoiden nimeämiseen eikä termien käyttöön, mutta sisältävät satoja esimerkkitekniikoita. Aineiston ja aiempien tutkimusten perusteella olen muodostanut 12 määreestä koostuvan tekniikoiden nimeämiskaavion. Kaavio määrittää sanajärjestyksen edellä mainituille 12 määreelle, joita tekniikoiden nimeämisessä voidaan käyttää. Varsinainen käsiteanalyysi on jaettu viiteen alalukuun tekniikoiden nimeämiskaavion pohjalta. Neljä tärkeintä ja yleisintä määrettä (asento, hyökkäys-/torjuntatyökalu, tekniikkatyyppi ja tekniikan tarkenne) muodostavat omat alalukunsa, kun taas loppuja määreitä, joissa myös käsitteistöä on vähemmän, käsitellään analyysin viidennessä alaluvussa. Analyysin tuloksena kustakin määreestä muodostui käsitejärjestelmä, jonka yhdessä nimeämiskaavion kanssa on tarkoitus parantaa Taekwon-Do-harrastajien ymmärrystä lajin terminologiasta. Lisäksi olen analyysin yhteydessä esittänyt ehdotuksia epäselvyyksien poistamiseksi ja puutteiden täydentämiseksi Taekwon-Don käsitteistössä

(in English): The topic of this work is the characteristics of the short stories by Kono Taeko. At first I am presenting the methodology - psychoanalysis. Then, I'm describing her life for better understanding of the use of some typical features. Especially the war and the tuberculosis had influence on her work. Subsequently I present possible interpretation of her stories in term of Shintoism (effort to purify) and Buddhism (achievement of liberation). In interpersonal relations Kono Taeko deals mainly with man- woman relationships and her attitude can be considered feminist. In the most comprehensive chapter concerning masochism I am trying to prove with Freud's theory "The child is being beaten" that her work is masochistic. In the end I am generalizing my findings. This work contains Czech translations of examples of her work and contains 68 pages.

Presently, Taekwon Do has been introduced from Korea to Taiwan for more than three decades. The military has long established a special battle tactic training team to such end and the police force has also listed it as a regular training. In addition, most schools also have Taekwon Do club on campus, and hundreds of private establishments scatter throughout the island. Despite the limited development time, Taiwan''s Taekwon Do elites have attained considerable achievement in the international arena, making it worth while to examine how the sport has managed such development result within a short period. Based on the writer''s study, the following conclusions are presented: I. The introduction of Taekwon Do was forced by the historical background: given the cross-strait tension and the national defense policy of reclaiming mainland China, the military training of battle tactics was much emphasised. Both being anti-communism, Taiwan had close friendly relationship with Korea, and as has the practical function of close-range body combat, it took the interest of the late president Chiang Ching-kuo who was the minister of national defense at the time. II. Taekwon Do was first initiated with the "Marine Taekwon Do Team" in 1967 which is the base of Taiwan''s Taekwon Do. Under the military''s systematic training and compilation of teaching substances, many instructors were duly produced for the military and the private sector alike, rooted the seeds for the sport''s prosperous development in the private sector as well as for the subsequent sportsmen''s outstanding performance in the internationally community, gradually replaced the military''s position in Taiwan''s Taekwon Do field. III. Taekwon Do did not burgeon in the private sector until 1969. In 1973, R.O.C. Taekwon Do Association was established; steered by the government, Taekwon Do soon took root and fostered in the private sector. By 1984, Luo Chang was assigned the post of director-general of the National Police Administration which further generated Taekwon Do to extend to the police force, diversified the development of the sport. Meanwhile, the number of private practices has also reached the peak, evidencing the prevalence of Taekwon Do. Today, the sport is guided by the private sector, and it remains to be seen if the Taekwon Do Association will be able to win the first Olympics gold medal for Taiwan. IV. In over view of the above, the government''s strong and forceful steering during the early stage had paved solid foundation, enabled Taekwon Do''s accelerated development in Taiwan; the results are evidenced by the establishment of R.O.C. Taekwon Do Association and numerous private practices, the outstanding performance of the athletes and the police force''s active participation. Therefore, the government''s efforts were of great significance to the development of Taekwon Do in Taiwan.

Abstract:
Title: Motoric manifestation of laterality and its relation to performance in Taekwon-do ITF Author: Vaněk Lukáš Field of study: Physical training and sport Tutor: PhDr. Jan Štochl, Ph.D. Purposes: The main object is to proof the hypothesis of higher prevalence of left-handed probands in the martial arts area than in the common population and also to proof them being more succesful than right-handed probands from the same group. Methods: The tested group consisted of 51 probands on the highest performance level - members of junior and senior Czech Taekwon-do ITF national team. The group was tested with a special testing system designed specially for the purpose ofthis thesis. Results: On the basis of the results it can be said that laterality distribution in the tested group corresponds with the laterality distribution in the common population declared in literature. Differences were found only in the group "seniors-male" where the distibution tends to be higher than featured in literature. No significant proof ofthe supposed dependence of success on laterality in particular probands was found except for the male senior team where the corelation coefficient showed high level ofdependence. Conclusions: The advantage of left-handed people in martial arts is perceptible. Though, based on our research...

Purpose: The amount of trace albumin, uric acid, and urea ammonia were used as indicators of renal damage. These figures were used to discuss the changes of the body’s composition and changes of electrolytes before and after different degrees of weight loss of a Taekwon-Do players. Method: 24 subjects were divided equally into three groups (3% weight-loss group, 5% weight-loss group, and the control group) according to weight division. The weight-losing subjects were using the calorie-limit method with jogging and usual training routines. Subjects were also asked to take blood and urine samples before and after the weight loss; another urine sample was taken 5 days after ending the weight loss. Results: (1) The body fat, muscle mass, and total body water of the 5% group was obviously lower after the weight loss (p <.05). The muscle mass and total body water of the 3% group were obviously lower after the weight loss (p<.05). (2) Both 2 weight-loss groups showed an evident rising in trace albumin and uric acid (p<.05), and the 5% group being higher than the 3% group (p <.05). Both groups were recovered after 5 days the end of the weight loss. (3) After the rapid weight loss, the amount of natrium ions in the blood dropped significantly (p <.05), and the 5% group dropped lower than the 3% group (p <.05). The amount of kalium ions in the blood of the 3% group rose significantly (p <.05). (4) The kickboxing performance of the 5% group was significantly lower than before the weight loss (p <.05). The 3% group did not show significant difference from the control group (p >.05). Conclusion: This research found that short periods of rapid weight losing might cause renal damage. Although this seems to be recoverable, however, if done repeatedly in the long term, the potential permanent damage to the kidney is still unknown. The more the weight loss, the larger physical damage it causes and the lower the performance.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Successful performance and high sports achievements in martial arts depend on the various aspects of sports training - physical, technical, tactical, and psychological training. On the other hand, the increase in technical degree is related to a physical and theoretical exam. The aim of the present study is to assess the knowledge of athletes related to the history and creation of taekwon-do. Methodology: The study was carried out in April – May 2020. The research was aimed to explores the knowledge of the athletes, related to the history and creation of taekwon-do. The study involved 232 taekwon-do athletes (15.53 ± 4.30 years) with different sports experience and degree from 15 local taekwon-do clubs in Bulgaria. The online form test contains a total of 17 questions (4 personal and 13 specialized questions). Results: The largest accumulation of values (most athletes) received a result in the range of 11-16 points (68.53% of all tested). Most tasks have very good discrimination (0.40 ≤ DP ≤ 0.70). The calculated difficulty P of the questions used is in the range of 63-97%. Conclusion: Empirical data show that the test has good statistical characteristics and can be used to assess the theoretical knowledge of athletes during a promotion exam. The data obtained from the pedagogical experiment give grounds to claim that the level of knowledge and skills of taekwon-do athletes are at different levels.

Abstract:
Taekwon-do requires explosive strength, flexibility, and balance. The problem of defining factor structures and identifying the major factors for physical development and motor ability is of particular importance for the training process. The aim of the present study was to optimize the major factors of physical development and motor ability of 9–12-year-old males Taekwon-Do ITF athletes. Methodology: The study was carried out in March – May 2019. The research was aimed at studying the major indicators of physical development and motor ability of 9–12-year-old males. It was done among 99 Taekwon-Do athletes (n=99, 10.58 ± 1.13 years, 148.06 ± 11.06 cm, 42.77 ± 11.61 kg) from 9 local Taekwon-do clubs in Bulgaria. Athletes were tested along 16 indicators of physical development and 12 indicators of motor ability. Results: There were 3 factors that explained a total of 89.48% of the initial variance in physical development in males of this age. The test battery contained 16 indicators for testing physical development and after performing the factor analysis, the number was optimized to 3. There were 4 factors that explained a total of 69.15 % of the initial variance in motor ability in males of this age. The test battery contained 12 indicators for testing motor ability and after performing the factor analysis, the number was optimized to 4. Conclusion: Optimizing and reducing the number of factors for physical development and motor ability at the age of 9-12 years would improve the training process in taekwondo sports. In this way, coaches’ efforts would be able to target the highest factor weight indicators that would be most affected by the training load applied. Optimizing factors to control athletic achievement would improve athletic performance.
