Abstract:
Since the beginning of the 21st century, the world has seen a changing trend in computing power thanks to advancements in technology. One peculiar platform in the field of usability is the tablet. Due to its recent introduction, it has had a relatively short life span with few established methodologies. The tablet is gaining market share at a tremendous speed and thus there has been a big demand of the appropriate evaluation methods. This comprehensive study intention is to; through a literature survey and transformation of collected material identify what usability requisites there are when developing a user interface for a tablet application. Existing user interface guidelines from various companies involving the development of tablet software are examined and paired up with usability principles in the creation of the usability checklist. The usability checklist practical effectiveness is tested on various tablet applications and the results are compared to the results of a usability user test  valuation. The majority of the usability problems found by the user test evaluation are codiscovered, in addition, there were a greater number of undiscovered usability problems that was identified with the checklist evaluation.

Hubbard, Jerry. "Postsecondary Instructor Attitudes Toward Tablet Use for Collaboration and Critical Thinking Development." ScholarWorks, 2017. https://scholarworks.waldenu.edu/dissertations/4143.

Abstract:
Although research has identified critical thinking (CT) as an objective of higher education, limited quantitative research has focused on how postsecondary instructors view using handheld devices for classroom collaboration to support CT. There are studies examining how the use of tablet technologies influence collaborative learning (CL), showing a link between CL and CT, and connecting CT to academic achievement. However, understanding how instructors perceive the intersection of these factors has not been well studied. Applying Vygotsky's social cognitive theory as a foundation of CL, using adapted questions from two questionnaires (Technology Acceptance Model and Cooperative Learning Implementation) and two frameworks, this quantitative survey study examined the relationship between tablet application and implementation of CL, and then between CL implementation and the development of CT dispositions (CTD). An email with a link to the survey was sent to a population of 1,932 instructors in a professional education technology organization. From a sample of 59, the key findings indicated instructors accepted the use and usefulness of tablets in the classroom, and used applications for completing collaborative tasks. The Pearson's product moment correlations between tablets and CL, acceptance and implementation appear to be affected by instructor's professional views and teaching practices. Perceptions about the development of CTD were positive with limitations of statistical significance. Results of this study may provide insights into using tablets in effective ways to enhance learning outcomes as one social benefit. Improving the CT of students may support developing citizens who contribute to communities and society in positive ways as lifelong learners.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Mobile devices are becoming more common in health care and studies show that they can contribute with a lot of benefits. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate what important factors should be considered when designing an application for a tablet computer to be used at an emergency department. The project involved creating a prototype for an application that would be used as a decision support system for doctors when a stroke patient arrives to the emergency department – a case where time and accuracy are both equally important. Research was conducted by doing field studies and interviews, and the results from these helped to develop a prototype. Usability tests were conducted on the prototype and changes were made accordingly. The study showed that there are many important factors to consider; e.g. identifying the workflows, creating a non-linear system and overview support.

Abstract:
The skill of cooking a meal from start to end is becoming a stressful every day activity in many homes in Denmark. Less and less parents focus on including their children in preparing dinner because they see it as a time-consuming activity that the child would rather be left out of. In this paper we examine the importance of teaching children how to cook from a young age as well as we investigate in why it can seem like such a big task for them to actually get started with cooking. The study focuses on how to develop an interactive tablet and smartphone application that provides children with an explorative platform for them to develop their cooking skills on. The detailed process of developing a simple tablet/smartphone application is explored in order to arrive at an understand of the challenges children face when cooking, how we encourage them to cook and how we facilitate them with the best possible options for this. By doing several explorative workshops and studying previous research about how children learn, understand and explore their creativity, we arrive at an understanding of the challenges, limits and benefits there would be with an application like this.

Abstract:
Mobile devices have become ubiquitous, and are becoming replacements for personal computers as well. This brings many opportunities for software developers who want to fulfill the demands of productivity software on these new interfaces, particularly tablets. In this paper, we examine the advantages and disadvantages of the tablet, and document the software engineering and design of a mobile application for music notation, Symphony Pro. The two high-level aspects of developing a large-scale application are user interface design and software design. User interface design deals with a user-centric perspective, to allow ordinary humans to interface with the application smoothly, whereas software design deals with helping developers manage complexity in implementation.

Montgomery, Jedidiah Spencer. "A Privacy Risk Scoring Framework for Mobile." BYU ScholarsArchive, 2014. https://scholarsarchive.byu.edu/etd/4270.

Full text
Abstract:
Protecting personal privacy has become an increasingly important issue as computers become a more integral part of everyday life. As people begin to trust more personal information to be contained in computers they will question if that information is safe from unwanted intrusion and access. With the rise of mobile devices (e.g., smartphones, tablets, wearable technology) users have enjoyed the convenience and availability of stored personal information in mobile devices, both in the operating system and within applications. For a mobile application to function correctly it needs permission or privileges to access and control various resources and controls on the mobile device. These permissions can range from location and account information to access to all storage on the mobile device. A single permission, or a combination of permissions, could lead to a high risk of potential privacy invasion. This privacy invasion risk can be amplified specifically for security applications when compared to non-security applications due to the administrative privileges that security applications frequently need to moderate and protect information on a mobile device. Currently there is no defined matrix or framework for analyzing privacy risks for any mobile platform, including the main mobile platforms of Android, iOS and Windows mobile. The purpose of this research is to create a framework for analyzing mobile application permissions and identify potentially invading permission. The framework produces a Privacy Invasion Profile (also known as a PIP) for each application, which can be used to compare the risk of privacy invasion for a specific application.

Abstract:
Nowadays, the Internet and the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) transform our daily lives, promoting changes in the professional, domestic, and academic levels. The relationships are changed, as well as the ways of thinking and discovering in order to build knowledge and act socially. A simultaneity of processes makes the organization of the information and communication society a big network, full of connections and interactions. We can observe these transformations in the context of teaching and learning languages, where teacher and pupil bring to the classroom a series of internet-gathered information or experiences of interaction in social media, discussion groups, among other resources that ICT continually promote. The school is no longer the only one to transmit and construct knowledges, and new relationships are created between teaching and learning. This research was developed in a Language Study Centre in the state of Sao Paulo, in the context of teaching and learning French, in a multilevel class. Our research goals are to investigate to what extent the use of digital resources for tablets in classes can contribute to the ICT and the production of written texts in French, and, finally, identify how the role of mediator is established by the professor in the implementation of the project Mon livret de voyage, which connects the teaching of languages and ICT. Our qualitativeinterpretative research draws on methods of Action Research (THIOLLENT, 2009). The theoretical approach that guided our research refers to concepts of communicative approach and task-based approaches (RICHARDS, 2006; ELLIS, 2008; GUICHON, 2012; ALMEIDA FILHO, 2013), pedagogical mediation (VYGOTSKY, 1999, 2010; MASETTO, 2013), development of activities by tasks and the concept of pedagogical map (MANGENOT e LOUVEAU, 2006), and the use of digital resources in pedagogy (GUICHON, 2012; LEFFA, 2012; BRAGA, 2013). The results show that the pedagogical planning done by the teacher, promoting the production of written texts in French by the mobilization of pupils linguistic knowledges by using digital resources for tablets, maximized the learning of language. The research contribution, in the context of teacher training allows for the development of reflections and future actions about the possibilities of learning languages by using ICT in multilevel classrooms, having as reference a methodology based on tasks aiming at the accomplishment of a final project, in the context of this research, the Livret de voyage.

Abstract:
This thesis deals with the optimal design of variable-thickness laminated composite structures. The stacking variables define a combinatorial optimization problem and large decision spaces which are potentially multimodal. Stochastic optimization algorithms allow solving this type of problem and allow taking advantage from the performance and the anisotropic nature of unidirectional composite plies to lighten laminated composite structures. The purpose of this study is twofold: (i) developing an optimization algorithm dedicated to variable-thickness laminated composites and (ii) assessing the potential of laminated composites in influencing the aerodynamic performances of a composite CROR blade.Firstly, an evolutionary algorithm is specialized in order to optimize layup tables and handle a set of design guidelines which is representative of industrial practices. In this purpose, a specific encoding of the solutions is suggested and specialized variation operators are developed.Secondly, the algorithm is enriched with a guiding technique based on the exploitation of an auxiliary space in order to improve its efficiency and to include further composites-related knowledge for the resolution of the problem. Finally, the method is applied for the design of a reduced-scale composite CROR blade intended for wind-tunnel testing. Beforehand, iterative processes are implemented to estimate the shape of the non-operating blade and the stress state within the operating blade

With the increase of use with tablet computers comes new ways of interaction butalso new possibilities for learning. This creates a challenge for designers to create aviable interaction design. In this research, a set of interaction design guidelines andinteraction qualities are identi ed. Speci cally when designing natural user interfacesfor drawing-based modeling on tablet devices to support learning. The existingtablet computer manufacturer design guidelines are reviewed. Additionally, a webbasedtablet prototype designed and developed using an iterative design approachconsisting of design and creation coupled with design-based research and interactiondesign. The prototype is evaluated with eight representative end-users at a middleschoolin southern Sweden using a usability evaluation that is recorded with videoand analyzed through a signi cant event analysis. The results show that users enjoyworking with the prototype and they think that it can help them in their learning. The results also shows guidelines and a ordances for interaction design of interfacesfor drawing-based modeling tablet applications. The reasoning behind identifyingguidelines and a ordances is to provide researchers, designers, and others with themeans to minimize problems that may arise in the design of their own drawing-basedmodeling tools for education.

Abstract:

Includes bibliographical references (pages 59-62).
One of the initial applications of plastic theory of structures was the Morrison Shelter, an indoor air raid shelter designed by John Fleetwood Baker (1901 - 1985) during the Second World War to protect British civilians from unrelenting German air raids. Baker integrated his previous work on plasticity of steel frames into the design of Morrison shelters that employed ductility and continuity, which are key principles of plastic theory. Although Morrison Shelters have been praised for their life saving capability and use of plastic theory, a technical analysis of its design process has been lacking from the historical record. To explore the use of plasticity in the Morrison Shelter's design process, the Baker Papers stored in the Churchill Archives Centre were searched. From these materials, the impact of plasticity on the efficiency of steel frames was critically investigated. This study quantifies the savings in steel due to the use of plastic theory in the design of the Morrison Shelter. The value of savings, which was particularly significant during wartime scarcity, has been previously stated without showing technical verification. The Morrison Shelter's design objectives are still relevant today, particularly in developing nations where the use of plasticity to design steel table-shelters can protect school children in areas of high seismic vulnerability by providing shelters in the form of lightweight steel-framed school desks. The investigation of the concise, plastic calculations used to design the Morrison Shelter serve as inspiration for replication in future applications that need lightweight, simple structures that expect to experience impact loads.

Abstract:
This thesis focuses on tangible user interfaces (TUI). The first part of this manuscript is about tangible interaction on tabletop. We first introduce TUIs and tabletops. We validate an hypothesis about the specialization of the form of the tangible objects, and conclude from that consequences on TUIs design. We propose the solution of a button box to deport some operations in the context of tabletop TUI. We present the construction and development of a transportable and low cost tabletop TUI system that allows rapid TUI prototyping. We end pointing out the special features of user experiments of TUIs. The second part of this manuscript deals with an application case of a TUI for geoscience: GeoTUI. We start presenting the context of the geophysicists work and their need in term of new way of interation. We present the results of our design of a TUI for geoscience. We detail the development of our prototype. To finish, we present two user experiments we conducted to validate our design choices

Abstract:
This thesis explores how an Android application that is used in combination with tangible appcessories is capable of facilitating a learning experience for visually impaired students within the specific domain of geometry. This study’s approach illustrates how using an application in combination with a physical appcessory can provide information concerning geometry to the visually impaired. An application, called Invisible Tangible Geometry (ITG), was programmed using Android in conjunction with a 3D printed model. This thesis describes the application, the physical appcessory, as well as early stage user studies. The application enables visually impaired users to explore simple geometric forms displayed on a tablet through sound and vibrotactile feedback. A physical appcessory, that can be manipulated to adopt several forms and is dynamic, is used in addition. Its shape is sensed by the tablet adds an additional tactile layer to the application and experience. Within the thesis a methodological framework, as well as a user-centered design approach was applied. An expert interview and three user engagements with visually impaired individuals serve as early validations of the project and ideas and provide feedback that directs design and development of future work. Current avenues for the future work will include additional interaction modes in the application. For example, the ability to digitize real world forms, and improving the robustness of the tangible appcessory. The plan, for future development, is to establish an autonomous functioning application that enables the visually impaired to be able to explore, participate and interact with geometry smoothly and without the need of aid from others. The correlation of application and appcessory will allow for anything between a quick glance, through feeling the model, and gaining detailed information, by using the application. The application enhances provided information through the use of a model and enriched digital feedback.

Flight line checkout of aircraft and Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) is a necessary part of Test Range operations. Checkout systems have been designed to support the Flight Test Engineer (FTE) and aircraft technicians to validate the operations of the aircraft instrumentation systems and to help in troubleshooting problems. Current systems in use by the FTE include using range assets, such as range Telemetry Receiving system, and even home built systems. One system used at Edwards Flight Test Center is called the Instrumentation Ground Support Units (IGSU) or "Taco Carts", a system that contains the basic elements of a telemetry ground system that also has the additional capability to connect directly to the aircraft. This presentation shows advancement prototypes that enable the FTE access to modern technologies that will provide efficiencies using wireless networks, tablets and the Test and Training Enabling Architecture (TENA) TENA through activities developed as part of the TENA in Resource Constrained Environments (TRCE) project.

Mestrado em Engenharia Eletrónica e Telecomunicações
In today’s modern industry, the majority of the tasks are getting more automated, and the human intervention reduced. Despite this fact the machines used still need maintenance. This is such an important part of the area, that all industries have specialized personnel just to maintain the automation systems. The reason is that the systems used on nowadays factories are becoming more specific and demanding in technological terms. This translates in a constant interaction between the machine manufacturers and the factory maintenance team. The purpose of this study was to develop a proof of concept prototype, projected to serve as a starting point for a market product in the field of industrial automation. The product aims to bridge the communication gap between manufacturers and industrial plant personnel. The focus of the thesis is in a mobile application for an industrial Tablet PC, in order to provide new tools to the industrial operator. These new tools include technical support functionalities, like remote reprogramming of industrial devices or via video call. They additionally add the possibility to locally access to industrial devices and functionalities seen in commercial “smart” devices, like the use of the camera. The main results of the thesis were to develop a working prototype tested in a real industrial case scenario, as well to find out that no industrial manufacturer provides a turn-key solution with the stated requirements.

Abstract:

Distributed Hash Tables (DHTs) are a powerful building block for highly scalable decentralized systems. They route requests over a structured overlay network to the node responsible for a given key. DHTs are subject to the well-known Sybil attack, in which an adversary creates many false identities in order to increase its influence and deny service to honest participants. Defending against this attack is challenging because (1) in an open network, creating many fake identities is cheap; (2) an attacker can subvert periodic routing table maintenance to increase its influence over time; and (3) specific keys can be targeted by clustering attacks. As a result, without centralized admission control, previously existing DHTs could not provide strong availability guarantees. This dissertation describes Whanau, a novel DHT routing protocol which is both efficient and strongly resistant to the Sybil attack. Whanau solves this long-standing problem by using the social connections between users to build routing tables that enable Sybilresistant one-hop lookups. The number of Sybils in the social network does not affect the protocol's performance, but links between honest users and Sybils do. With a social network of n well-connected honest nodes, Whanau provably tolerates up to O(n/ log n) such "attack edges". This means that an attacker must convince a large fraction of the honest users to make a social connection with the adversary's Sybils before any lookups will fail. Whanau uses techniques from structured DHTs to build routing tables that contain O(Vf log n) entries per node. It introduces the idea of layered identifiers to counter clustering attacks, which have proven particularly challenging for previous DHTs to handle. Using the constructed tables, lookups provably take constant time. Simulation results, using large-scale social network graphs from LiveJournal, Flickr, YouTube, and DBLP, confirm the analytic prediction that Whanau provides high availability in the face of powerful Sybil attacks. Experimental results using PlanetLab demonstrate that an implementation of the Whanau protocol can handle reasonable levels of churn.

A prototype multimodal tablet application for learning the physics of motion has been developed tested and evaluated. By moving their finger across the screen the application enables the user to map its position and velocity in real-time in terms of graphs. The learning outcome of those test subjects using the application was compared to a group that had the same procedure shown to them, as well as getting an explanation of all the physics involved. There was a small but not significant difference in performance between these groups on a post-test. However, a larger (arguably significant) difference was seen between the male and female test subjects for the sub-set of questions of a more analytical nature.

This thesis contributes to the Human-Computer Interaction domain. It aims to take into account the context of use for the interactive tables. By the concept of interactive table, one can suppose a collaborative and co-localized workspace allowing several users to work at the same time but also new interactions mixing tangible and/or virtual objects. That is due to these observations and to the interest granted to these new platforms that we proposed to characterize and to list them by using a model that we proposed. The context is a concept used for a long time in the interactive applications design. Research in HCI brought many elements making it possible to define and to qualify it thoroughly. Our proposal aims so to take into account the context for the interactive tables. For that, we initially modeled the context such as it can be defined in the literature. Then we increased this model in order to adapt it to the use of the interactive tables. A set of formalisms making it possible to define the context for the interactive tables are also presented, those bring up us to propose an adaptation system to the context then a set of adaptation rules. We carry out the adaptation to the context by using the TangiSense interactive table. For that we use, and implement our suggested adaptation rules in order to allow the TangiSense interactive table to adapt itself according to the context. In order to evaluate the whole of the elements proposed in this thesis, two studies were conducted: the first one in laboratory, the second one in a natural environment in nursery school. At present, Massive MIMO, an important technology for 5G development, can increase the channel capacity without increasing the bandwidth of the operating frequency, but the isolation in a large number of antennas is a big challenge. This thesis proposes two antenna designs by using polarization diversity to improve isolation. Moreover, the second design of the antenna adds metal-frames to suitable in the recent tablet design. The First design presents a design of massive MIMO antennas by using 12 coupled-fed slot antennas to cover the WRC 15 C-band (3.4 ~ 3.6 GHz) and two multiband antennas to match eight-band operation. The design is printed on a FR4 substrate of thickness of 0.8 mm, permittivity of 4.4, and loss tangent of 0.0245. The slot antennas are with the small dimension of 33.7 × 3.4 × 7.8 mm3 and located on the corners of the ground, with the dimension of 248 × 166 × 0.8 mm3. The slot antennas on the corner are also using polarization diversity to improve the isolation. The proposed design of massive MIMO antennas is with simple structure and radiation performances shown in measured results, and therefore it is suitable for terminal device application. The Second design focus on massive MIMO antennas located on metal-frame of a tablet. It used 16 coupled-fed slot antennas to cover the WRC 15 C-band (3.4 ~ 3.6 GHz) and two multiband antennas to match eight-band operation. The design is printed on a FR4 substrate of thickness of 0.8 mm, permittivity of 4.4, and loss tangent of 0.0245. The slot antennas shown are with the small dimension of 37 × 37 × 5.8 mm3 and located on the corners of the ground, with the dimension of 248 × 166 × 0.8 mm3. The slot antennas on the corner are also using phase different 90 degree to improve the isolation, the two multiband antennas with the coupled feeds are designed to operate in GSM 850/GSM 900/PCS/DCS/UMTS/LTE 900/LTE 2300/LTE 2500.The dimension of antenna is 67 × 7 × 10 mm3, and uses coupling structure with chip inductor and capacitor to reduce antenna size.

The paper studies several types of antenna placed in the tablet PC, using the concept of diversity of polarization to find out the optimal placement distance for an antenna and further improve the antenna isolation, under the condition that without altering an antenna design. Both planar inverted-F antenna (PIFA Antenna) and coupling type antenna (Coupling antenna) are selected for this research; Moreover, 4G (LTE Long Term Evolution) is chosen as the working frequency band for it posses the attribute of MIMO (Multi-input multi-output) and multi-bandwidth which can increase users’ bandwidth, and therefore the antenna isolation becomes the focus in the paper. In addition, the variation and different parameters of antenna distances are discussed and the paper concludes with the optimal distance and performance for antennas.

ABSTRACT In this thesis, two small-size LTE/WWAN antennas are proposed for laptop and tablet computer applications, respectively. The first proposed antenna is embedded in laptop computers and has a low-profile characteristic whose height has only 8 mm. An active switch chip is used to control the lower band of the antenna, and thereby the demanding LTE/WWAN operating bandwidths (704 ~ 960 MHz, 1710 ~ 2690 MHz) can be achieved. The second proposed antenna is applied to tablet computers, and it is composed of a monopole antenna and two feeds. The two feeds are used to excite the operating modes of the lower and higher bands, respectively. By adding a matching circuit to each feed, two wide bandwidths for the lower and higher bands can be achieved, and cover the required LTE/WWAN eight-band operating bandwidths.

This paper utilizes the Planar Inverted F Antenna and Planar Inverted L Antenna structure to apply to the actual application on tablet PCs. The main research investigates two different structures of antenna on the 10 inches tablet PC, and analyzes the data of V.S.W.R., return loss, current distribution, and 2D radiation pattern of antenna, etc. Moreover, the author uses the OTA (Over The Air) test on the antennas embedded in tablet PC in order to observe and compare variances of Total Radiation power (TRP) and the Throughput. The research makes use of the advantages of aforesaid antennas, which overcomes the influences on the antenna efficacy under sophisticated environment of tablet PCs, and realizes the miniature design of antenna that simultaneously satisfies the bandwidth of WWAN (Wireless Wide Area Network) as well as the frequency range of LTE (Long Term Evolution). Based on the analysis of relevance between specific parameters of selected antenna structures and environmental factors, the research aims to provide useful reference to antenna selection in initial design stage and optimize the design schedule of antenna on tablet PCs.

Abstract:
abstract: As technology has advanced in recent years, tablet devices have started to make their way into all walks of life. Yet, many medical documentation processes still see the use of paper. Though the paper based documentation method has been shown to be effective for some purposes, the introduction of tablet devices has the potential to make the documentation processes a lot smoother. In this thesis, tablet based documentation systems are reviewed, and based on this, a new custom application is developed that medical staff can use with ease. This new application, developed for an iPad is one where users can fully customize their own forms for different uses in the intensive care unit for resuscitation scenarios. The thesis discusses the architecture behind this application along with designing different elements of the system. Through this thesis project, the application was evaluated to see if such a complex documentation process can be easily used and created on a tablet device. The medical staff surveyed, responded positively to the use of the application and agreed that the electronic documentation usage and creation is a powerful tool that could help improve resuscitation practice by making it more efficient.

"Improving Usability and Adoption of Tablet-based Electronic Health Record (EHR) Applications." Master's thesis, 2018. http://hdl.handle.net/2286/R.I.48465.

Abstract:
abstract: The technological revolution has caused the entire world to migrate to a digital environment and health care is no exception to this. Electronic Health Records (EHR) or Electronic Medical Records (EMR) are the digital repository for health data of patients. Nation wide efforts have been made by the federal government to promote the usage of EHRs as they have been found to improve quality of health service. Although EHR systems have been implemented almost everywhere, active use of EHR applications have not replaced paper documentation. Rather, they are often used to store transcribed data from paper documentation after each clinical procedure. This process is found to be prone to errors such as data omission, incomplete data documentation and is also time consuming. This research aims to help improve adoption of real-time EHRs usage while documenting data by improving the usability of an iPad based EHR application that is used during resuscitation process in the intensive care unit. Using Cognitive theories and HCI frameworks, this research identified areas of improvement and customizations in the application that were required to exclusively match the work flow of the resuscitation team at the Mayo Clinic. In addition to this, a Handwriting Recognition Engine (HRE) was integrated into the application to support a stylus based information input into EHR, which resembles our target users’ traditional pen and paper based documentation process. The EHR application was updated and then evaluated with end users at the Mayo clinic. The users found the application to be efficient, usable and they showed preference in using this application over the paper-based documentation.

This thesis dealt with high isolation antenna design for LTE and WLAN applications in a flat panel. From the system design point of view, we proposed a size reduction design on LTE and WLAN antennas so that they may be placed in a limited space. The issue of isolation between the two antennas at close proximity must be considered. Initial design is on the performance optimization and size reduction of the LTE antenna. Subsequently, the remaining space is used to design the WLAN antenna. A resonator design is also implemented to improve the isolation. In this work, theoretical design on the antenna system was simulated using the Ansoft High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) simulation software. The performance would be compared with that of the commercial products through actual measurements in an anechoic chamber. The antenna system designed for WLAN and LTE in this paper has an impedance bandwidth that complies with the related specifications of IEEE802.11 a/b/g/n (2.4GHz~2.5GHz, 5.15GHz~5.85GHz) and LTE. The low-frequency gain of the LTE antenna including the resonator is -3.6 to -5 dBi and the high-frequency gain is -1 to -4.6 dBi. The low-frequency gain of the WLAN antenna including the resonator is -2.5 to 2.8 dBi and the high-frequency gain is -0.1 to 2.1 dBi. The performance can meet the specification of the users.

Due to the rapid pace of development and innovation in information technology, a new learning tool, tablet-based PC, appears as a blend of mobile devices and laptops which combine both advantages and become a new learning pattern in campus. With the fit size, intuitive, and streamlined design, tablet-based PCs integrate various learning applications and have potential to surpass tradition learning tools by creating a better way for learning. With this trend, more and more schools have realized the value of tablet learning and began to use tablet device as an educational tool, but there is only a limited understanding about what factors drive students’ switching intentions to tablet learning. Thus, this research attempts to explore factors influencing students switching intentions toward tablet e-textbook applications. The Push-Pull-Mooring (PPM) model had been adopted to delineate students’ switching intentions towards tablet e-textbook applications by examining structural relationships among push, pull, and mooring factors on switching intentions. Furthermore, mooring factors and gender had applied into our research model to analysis whether these two variables moderate the relationship of push/pull factors on switching intentions. Our results revealed that push, pull and mooring effects all significant influence students’ switching intentions toward tablet e-textbook applications. Pull effects have the strongest power affecting student’s switching intentions while push and mooring effects relatively weaker than pull effects. Mooring effects include habit and switching cost negatively influenced switching intentions. Furthermore, moderating effects of mooring factors and gender are found to be insignificant in this study.

This study has investigated an artificial intelligence technology ¿ model trees ¿ as a modelling tool applied to an immediate release tablet formulation database. The modelling performance was compared with artificial neural networks that have been well established and widely applied in the pharmaceutical product formulation fields. The predictability of generated models was validated on unseen data and judged by correlation coefficient R2. Output from the model tree analyses produced multivariate linear equations which predicted tablet tensile strength, disintegration time, and drug dissolution profiles of similar quality to neural network models. However, additional and valuable knowledge hidden in the formulation database was extracted from these equations. It is concluded that, as a transparent technology, model trees are useful tools to formulators
