Full textThis thesis deals with the fault detection/estimation and fault-tolerant control challenges through integrated design. The aim is to design control strategies able to maintain robust and acceptable performance even in the presence of faults. The considered systems are dynamic in nature and are multi-model. The approaches proposed in this thesis consist in formalizing the integrated design of the detection/estimation and fault-tolerant control units in the form of linear matrix inequalities to overcome the difficulty posed by the observer/controller coupling. These approaches provide the ability to consider the different interactions between the system, the detection/estimation unit, and the control unit. Therefore, ensuring a global stability analysis of the closed-loop system and robust performances in terms of detection/estimation, control, and fault compensation. The thesis is mainly composed of three parts. In the first part, results on the control in the presence of sensor or actuator faults are established for switched linear systems. In the second part, extensions to switched nonlinear systems with sensor and actuator faults are proposed. Finally, the third part consists of a complete study of a renewable energy system. It is a multi-source/multi-load system designed to meet multiple demands and is subject to the intermittency of renewable energies

Full textVisualization takes an important place in CAD-CAM systems. It is often the best way to understand the results of a number of processes. The CPU times of realistic pictures including reflections, transparences, shadows and so on, are still very large, which forbids their use during interactive phases. To reduce these CPU times, we propose, in a multi-model approach, a method lying on a new visualization model, called VSG (visual solid geometry). This model has intrinsic properties that improve visualization algorithms and we have specially tried to adapt the ray-casting to it because of high quality images this method produces

Full textThis thesis deals with analysis and synthesis of multiple model structures for model simplification, state estimation and diagnosis of nonlinear systems represented by one or several time-scales. This work aims, at first, to develop a systematic procedure to transform a nonlinear system into a multiple model form, by avoiding some major drawbacks : the transformation causes no information loss, the choice of the different operating points is no more necessary, the choice of the premise variables is realized in a more systematic way. Furthermore, the method gives the possibility of choosing between different multiplemodel structures. This degree of freedom will be used to ease the controllability, observ-ability, stability analysis studies. Secondly, the derivation of a singularly perturbed form for a multiple time scale non linear system is proposed, by eliminating some structuralconstraints and by making the identification and the separation of the time-scales independent to the model structure. Thirdly, the robust observer synthesis with respect to perturbations, modeling errors and unknown inputs are presented for state and unknowninput estimation. The difficulty of these studies comes from the fact that the multiple model depends on unmeasurable premise variables, this case being not intensively studied, whereas it results naturally from the method of transformation nonlinear system - multiple model. Afterward, fault diagnosis is performed using banks of observer to generate andstructure residual signals. Finally, this works are applied to a model of wastewater treatment plant, Activated Sludge Model No.1 (ASM1) that is largely used in the concerned fiel

Full textThe work carried out in this thesis concerns the design of robust nonlinear observers with model uncertainties as weIl as unknown inputs. The developed methods concern a class of a nonlinear systems represented by a multiple model. The stability conditions of the proposed observers are formulated using exclusively the second method of Lyapunov and its formulation in Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) form. The synthesized observers can be grouped into two categories: The first one is based on explicitly eliminating the effect of the unknown inputs (disturbance of additive nature) in state estimation error. However, this approach is unpractical when the considered multiple model is subject to parametric uncertainty (disturbance of multiplicative nature). The second category attempts to handle the difficulties encountered previously. The underlying principle is to compensate the effects of the different disturbances. This is achieved by introducing the concept of sliding mode, which is robust against the model uncertainties, in the observer structure. The developed observers are used to implement sensor and actuator fault detection and isolation pro- cedure for the class of nonlinear systems represented by a multiple model. For this purpose, we have adapted and transposed the existing fault detection and isolation methods developed in the context of the linear models. The efficiency of the proposed methodology is verified through an interesting application of turbojet engine described by a multiple model

Full textThis thesis deals with the diagnosis of switching systems (a special class of hybrid dynamical systems) with nonlinear modes. Some modes correspond to the normal operation, i.e. the fault-free case. The other modes may represent the system behavior in the presence of sensors, actuators or internal component faults. A general representation called multimode/multimodels is proposed. It models each nonlinear mode by a set of linear models. A weighting function is used to determine the contribution of each local model. A design method of robust residuals based on projection techniques is proposed. It uses only inputs/outputs data and the weighting functions. The knowledge of local parameters is not needed to compute the residuals. The fault detection and isolation with the data projection method includes firstly, the sensor faults in a nonlinear mode and secondly, the actuator faults or internal faults by detecting the mode switching and by recognizing, at each time-instant, the active mode.Discernability conditions between modes are established and a discernability index computed online is introduced in order to reduce the complexity of the current mode identification method. Academic examples are taken all along the thesis in order to illustrate the effectiveness of the different proposed methods and tools

Full textThe porosity of a composite plate in carbon / epoxy of type RTM is known by used of tomography X. A method of determination of this porosity by measure of the mitigation of the longitudinal waves through the thickness of this kind of plate is proposed. These measures are made on surfaces of different sizes (from some cm2 to some mm2) and allow the obtaining of cartographies. A correspondence porosity (tomo X) - Mitigation (US wave) is deducted and analyzed according to the structure of the composite material. In every case, we estimate the quality of the obtained relations and we deduct the limits of validity of the correspondence between porosity and mitigation. First results of acoustic tomography are obtained

Full textThe realization of dexterous manipulation tasks requires a complexity in robotic hands design as well as in their control laws synthesis. A mecatronical optimization of these systems helps to answer for functional integration constraints by avoiding external force sensors. Back-drivable mechanics allows the free-space positioning determination of such system as far as the detection of its interaction with a manipulated object thanks to proprioceptives measures at electric actuator level. The objective of this thesis is to synthesize a control law adapted to object manipulation by taking into account these mechanical properties in a one degree-of-freedom case. The proposed method is based on a robust control according to structural non-linearities due to gravitational effects and dry frictions on the one hand and with regard to a variable rigidity of manipulated objects on the other hand. The chosen approach requires a precise knowledge of the system configuration at all time. A dynamic representation of its behavior enables a software sensor synthesis for the exteroceptives variables estimation in a control law application purpose. The different steps are experimentally validated in order to justify the chosen approach leading to object manipulation

Full textThis thesis is devoted to the analysis of the instability phenomenon that may appear on the DC bus of DC microgrids. Indeed, interaction between the different electrical subsystems of the grid (source, load, filters) can lead, under certain conditions, to the system instability. From the "Constant Power Load" (CPL) hypothesis for the loads, this thesis presents studying methods for "small-signal" and "large-signal" stability analysis of electrical systems. This highlights that a DC microgrid cannot power the loads more than a maximum limit without becoming unstable. This power limitation depends on the structure of the grid, the value of its passive components, and its bus voltage. In order to improve the microgrid stability, stabilization methods are presented in this thesis. They propose to adapt the loads control to ensure the system stability. This is achieved by the addition of a stabilizing signal to the reference of each load. This signal is only visible during the load power transient mode to not change the requested operating point. However, a good trade-off must be found to ensure system stability without affecting the dynamic performance of its loads. Two approaches are investigated to generate the stabilizing commands. The first one is based on the establishment of a centralized stabilization block. Two centralized methods have been developed: the first one is based on the Takagi-Sugeno theory while the second is based on the Lyapunov theory. This latest permits to guide the stabilizing effort on the desired loads. For example, stabilizing effort can be oriented on the energy storage device. The second approach is based on the establishment of a multi-agent stabilizing system. It consists of a decentralized structure in which each agent corresponds to a stabilization block. These will locally compensate the destabilizing impact of their respective load on the microgrid, and their combined actions ensure the system stability. To design the system, the use of a constrained optimization algorithm is proposed. This permits to minimize stabilization efforts while considering faulty events such as the failure of one of the agents or a reconfiguration of the microgrid
