Full textThis PhD thesis is about a theoretical and practical analysis of the conceptual phases of the design process. It aims at extracting its recurrent elements in order to be reusable in different contexts and it also aims at making that process easily computer implemented. With this goal, we have studied the russian theory TRIZ, which pretends to formalize the inventive process. We conclude that this theory has a great interest for design process and we prove that this theory might be implemented in a computer-aided design system. The results of this PhD thesis can be decomposed in three parts: formalization, operationalisation and implementation. Formalization suggests an ontological modelling of one of the TRIZ methodologies, named Substance-Field analysis. Operationalisation proposes a translation of the formalization to be supported by a computer. The implementation is a software tool based on a hybrid system combining description logics and first order logic rules

Full textElectric and hybrid vehicles are among the keys to solve the problems of global warming and exhausted fossil fuel resources in transportation sector. Due to the limits of energy sources and energy converters in terms of power and energy, hybridizations are of interest for future electrified vehicles. Two typical hybridizations are studied in this thesis: • hybrid energy storage subsystem combining batteries and supercapacitors (SCs); and• hybrid traction subsystem combining internal combustion engine and electric drive. Such combined energy sources and converters must be handled by energy management strategies (EMSs). In which, optimization-based methods are of interest due to their high performance. Nonetheless, these methods are often complicated and computation consuming which can be difficult to be realized in real-world applications. The objective of this thesis is to develop simple but effective real-time optimization-based EMSs for an electric car and a parallel hybrid truck supplied by batteries and SCs. The complexities of the studied system are tackled by using Energetic Macroscopic Representation (EMR) which helps to conduct reduced models for energy management at the supervisory level. Optimal control theory is then applied to these reduced models to accomplish real-time EMSs. These strategies are simple due to the suitable model reductions but systematic and high-performance due to the optimization-based methods. The performances of the proposed strategies are verified via simulations by comparing with off-line optimal benchmark deduced by dynamic programming. Moreover, real-time capabilities of these novel EMSs are validated via experiments by using reduced-scale power hardware-in-the-loop simulation. The results confirm the advantages of the proposed strategies developed by the unified approach in the thesis

Full textModular computations involved in public key cryptography applications most often use a standardized prime modulo, the choice of which is not always free in practice. The improvement of modular operations is fundamental for the efficiency and safety of these primitives. This thesis proposes to provide an efficient modular arithmetic for the largest possible number of primes, while protecting it against certain types of attacks. For this purpose, we are interested in the PMNS system used for modular arithmetic, and propose methods to obtain many PMNS for a given prime, with an efficient arithmetic on the representations. We also consider the randomization of modular computations via algorithms of type Montgomery and Babaï by exploiting the intrinsic redundancy of PMNS. Induced changes of data representation during the calculation prevent an attacker from making useful assumptions about these representations. We then present a hybrid system, HyPoRes , with an algorithm that improves modular reductions for any prime modulo. The numbers are represented in a PMNS with coefficients in RNS. The modular reduction is faster than in conventional RNS for the primes standardized for ECC. In parallel, we are interested in a type of representation used to compute real solutions of fuzzy systems. We revisit the global approach of resolution using classical algebraic techniques and strengthen it. These results include a real system called the real transform that simplifies computations, and the management of the signs of the solutions

Full textTwo classes of hybrid systems with controlled or autonomous jumps and switchings are studied. Continuous representations of these systems are introduced, which enable to avoid difficulties associated with discontinuities. These representations are used to solve optimal control and identification problems. This approach, leading to the replacement of a hybrid problem by a continuous one, is justified by convergence theorems to either classical minima or epsilon-quasiminima with no compacity assumption, that are demonstrated by Gronwall’s lemma and Lebesgue’s theorem. These representations enable to solve hybrid problems by means of methods adapted to continuous problems. This possibility is illustrated by the use of calculus of variations. The practical advantages brought by the representations are highlighted

Full textRecommender systems are tools used to present users with items that might interest them. Such systems use algorithms that rely on the domain application. These algorithms are then executed for each user in order to find the most relevant recommendations for him, without taking into account his specific needs. In this thesis, we define a hybrid recommender system which combines several recommendation algorithms in order to obtain more accurate recommendations. Moreover, the defined approach relies on the structure of the input ontology, which makes the framework reusable, adaptable and domain-independent (music, research papers, films, etc.).We also had an interest in detecting in which kind of recommendations a user responds better in order to adapt the recommendation process to each user category and obtain more targeted recommendations. Finally, our approach can explain each recommendation, which increases the user confidence in the system by proving him that the recommendations are adapted to him. We also allow the user to correct the explanations in order to help the system to get a better understanding of him and avoid non accurate recommendations in the future. Our recommender system has been experimented online with real users and offline by performing a cross-validation on the MovieLens dataset. The results of the experimentation are very satisfying so far

Full textThis thesis deals with the optimal sizing of photovoltaic/diesel hybrid systems. An optimisation tool taking into account technical and economical considerations is developed. First, the principal characteristics of a hybrid system and its components, the interaction between the components as well as different system configurations and several control strategies are presented and analysed. Then, the detailed technical modelling of the system components and of the overall system operation is discussed and analysed. Actually, the modelling of the system is the basis of the optimisation tool and permits to do time-series simulations of the hybrid system operation under the given environmental conditions and for the chosen period of time. There are principally two goals: firstly to ensure that the given system sizing respects the operational constraints and fulfils user requirements and secondly, to supply detailed information about the system operation, in order to calculate the operating costs. The detailed modelling of all costs associated with the components and the system operation is presented as well as the discounting of future costs, which is imperative for long time analysis. The majority of the underlying models are non-linear; lots of them are discontinuous and non-differentiable. The search space is discretised and large. An appropriate method to solve this kind of optimisation problem, which is based on genetic algorithms, is used. Finally, optimisation results are presented on the basis of a well-defined case study

Full textThe "more electric" aircrafts reduce the embedded weight, greenhouse gas emissions and fuel consumption. Their development requires to adapt their electrical architecture and their energy production and storage capacity.Production and storage systems must be well dimensioned to match thevehicle energy requirements. An electric hybridization integrating alithium-ion battery pack and a supercapacitor pack can respectively respond to the energy and power demands of the load.Different electrical hybridization architectures will be studied. This research project deals with the optimal designs of these storage systems on board a helicopter. In this particular application, the overall mass of the entire storagetank system must be minimized. An optimal sizing tool is developed toachieve this objective by acting on the cut-off frequency of alow-pass filter. This frequency approach, based on the most demanding mission profile in terms of energy and power, allows the allocation of power demand between our two storage systems and, therefore, their characterization.Optimization results obtained by electrical architecture using thesimulated annealing method are presented and evaluated over the entiretemperature range. An adaptation of the energy managementstrategy is also presented to evaluate the influence of temperature on battery performance

Full textThis thesis aims to present our contributions to the resolution of two problems encountered in the field of computer vision and photogrammetry, which are camera calibration and stereovision. These two problems have been extensively studied in the last years. Different camera calibration techniques have been developed in the literature depending on the type of camera (classical or panoramic, with zoom lens or fixed lens..). Our first contribution is a compact and accurate calibration setup, based on diffractive optical elements, which is suitable for different kind of cameras. The technique is very robust and optimal results were achieved for different types of cameras. With the multiplication of camera types and the diversity of the projection models, a generic model has become very interesting. Our second contribution is a generic model, which is suitable for conventional and panoramic cameras. In this model, composed cubic splines functions provide more realistic model of both radial and tangential distortions. Such an approach allows to model either hybrid or panoramic stereovision system and to convert panoramic image to classical image. Consequently, the processing challenges of a hybrid stereovision system or a panoramic stereovision system are turned into simple classical stereovision problems. Keywords: Calibration, panoramic vision, distortions, fisheye, zoom, panomorph, epipolar geometry, three-dimensional reconstruction, hybrid stereovision, panoramic stereovision.

Full textWith the oil crisis announced in recent years, the use of alternative energy is experiencing strong growth, among them; photovoltaic energy is a promising technology in terms of supply security and environmental preservation. However, it has two main disadvantages: the production of energy is not continuous and the voltage across the PV panels heavily depends on the connected load. Through our research, we propose an autonomous photovoltaic system with storage to reduce the constraints mentioned above. On one hand, an auto-adaptive MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) algorithm allows photovoltaic panels to operate according to their optimal tension, thus providing maximum power. On the other hand, the storage device has been optimized: supercapacitors are added to lead-acid batteries to obtain a hybrid storage unit. Thus, supercapacitors perform a "power" function by facing power peaks, and batteries, an "energy" function. The addition of supercapacitors preserves the batteries by avoiding deep discharge. Finally, an effective overall management allows the system to provide optimal performance

Full textVarious Artificial Intelligence methods have been developed to reproduce intelligent human behaviour. These methods allow to reproduce some human reasoning process using the available knowledge. Each method has its advantages, but also some drawbacks. Hybrid systems combine different approaches in order to take advantage of their respective strengths. These hybrid intelligent systems also present the ability to acquire new knowledge from different sources and so to improve their application performance. This thesis presents our research in the field of hybrid neuro-symbolic systems, and in particular the study of machine learning tools used for constructive knowledge acquisition. We are interested in the automatic acquisition of theoretical knowledge (rules) and empirical knowledge (examples). We present a new hybrid system we implemented: INSS - Incremental Neuro-Symbolic System. This system allows knowledge transfer from the symbolic module to the connectionist module (Artificial Neural Network - ANN), through symbolic rule compilation into an ANN. We can refine the initial ANN knowledge through neural learning using a set of examples. The incremental ANN learning method used, the Cascade-Correlation algorithm, allows us to change or to add new knowledge to the network. Then, the system can also extract modified (or new) symbolic rules from the ANN and validate them. INSS is a hybrid machine learning system that implements a constructive knowledge acquisition method. We conclude by showing the results we obtained with this system in different application domains: ANN artificial problems(The Monk's Problems), computer aided medical diagnosis (Toxic Comas), a cognitive modelling task (The Balance Scale Problem) and autonomous robot control. The results we obtained show the improved performance of INSS and its advantages over others hybrid neuro-symbolic systems

Full textCivil aviation pursues the objective of moving people or goods through the air with an optimal level of safety. For more than thirty years, despite a stricter and stricter regulatory framework and highly reliable automation, the ratio between performance and acceptable risk is not improving anymore.Human factors are a major action lever to break this glass floor. In the constrained context of aviation, designing tools aiming at assisting pilots’ cognition is thus a promising direction. Anticipation has been identified central in the process of cognitive resources management. In a human factors engineering approach, we undertook the design of an anticipation support tool involving pilots at each step of the development. From an activity analysis performed on the basis of in-cockpit recordings and interviews we constructed a model of the actual pilots’ activity during the descent and approach phases on Rio de Janeiro airport. The state of the art highlighted the key elements related to anticipation which could take benefit of a preliminary experiment. Experimental results brought together with our hypotheses about how anticipation works completed the requirements of the functional core of our anticipation support tool. A dynamic planning algorithm was then designed and implemented within ASAP (Anticipation Support for Aeronautical Planning), Thales Avionics’ proof of concept. 36 commercial pilots took part to its evaluation in a simulated environment

Full textCurrently, it seems important to develop new antifouling coatings more efficient and mainly more environmental. Two main types of paints are used and show some disadvantages: the release of toxic molecules for one and the low efficiency during idle periods for the other. The aim of this project was to create new hybrid antifouling paints. Thus copolymers with biodegradable blocks (polyester) and one silicone block (polydimethylsiloxane) to give a low surface energy have been synthesized and characterized. Then, the copolymers have been used as binders for the formulation of antifouling coatings. Different synthesis ways was used to obtain the best results and the easiest strategy to produce an important quantity of product for a manufacture. Two polymerizations by ring opening polymerisation (with a metallic and an enzymatic catalyst) and an addition by the thiol-ene reaction were used to obtain the triblock linear copolymer. To synthesize advanced polymers architecture, the reaction thiol-yne was used. The hydration, degradation and surface properties have been studied in distilled water for the binder. Hydration and degradation properties have been compared for the film polymers and paints. Then, the release of molecules and the kind of hydration have been observed for the paint. Finally, the efficiency of antifouling coatings was assessed during their immersion in the Lorient cove

Full textOver the past decade, more and more elderly people are choosing to live alone. Therefore, in order to provide them with continuous home assistance, the notion of "intelligent home" has emerged. Our aim is to combine three technologies (Bluetooth Low Energy, Audio and LiFi) to provide an efficient and accurate hybrid indoor localization system that locates an elderly person inside a smart home. The principle of hybridization of these three subsystems is based on the combination of their respective results by proposing three new DOP-Like metrics to evaluate "precision" and "accuracy" of the result of each subsystem. This evaluation serves to constitute a weighting of the intermediate results in order to calculate the final position of the target to be localized. Thanks to the introduction of these indicators, the localization error of our system decreased from an average of 0.5m to 0.2m

This work is composed by a mobility experimental analysis part, a numerical modelization part and an optimization part of the energy management strategy. The study of mobility allow to highligth and quantify the predictibility of trips, due to a constraint mobility. The dynamic modelling of the vehicle which is necesary to study perfomance of strategies, was realized by Energetic Macroscopic Representation (EMR) which is a good methode in this case. The proposed strategy is based on the predictive control (MPC), solve by a method of Programming Quadratic, and set up resting on the cycle prediction determined from the experimental study. The perspectives of improvements of these work are consolidation of the database, and improvement of the battery modelling (imcluding thermal and ageing effects) and of the thermal engine (taken into account by some pollutants)

Full textInformation systems are in continuous development since their creation. Using these systems offers the possibility to information access and treatment. Although, the general operation is always the same: gathering non-described, unreferenced, and unoriginal data, as well as the difficulty in accessing updated data. . . We do not know where the searched information is, or who created it. The time and the number of intermediate persons that are necessary for data search, reduce the circulation of information. This is true in all domains including the medical domain. The communication of shared and temporal information remains an important problem. Our study on current systems showed three main limitations that increase the information dispersal on the same domain. The first problem is that the current interfaces do not correspond to user needs and work. The second problem is that some of information systems do not communicate. This makes impossible to generate an overall view of the information which are connected to the same project. Finally the third problem concerns the information access that requires the access to diverse resources. These last ones are generally heterogeneous within the syntax or semantic level. Complex ontologies containing thousands of terms are created to resolve the semantic conflicts. Nevertheless, the syntax and the unique data structure remain a difficult problem to be resolved. Essentially, our contribution consists in cooperating heterogeneous information systems. For this reason, we propose semantic mediation architecture. Domain meta-ontology and task meta-ontology are associated to assure the information sources convergence. We also use annotations and metadata that facilitate the information resources description in order to make correspondences between them, to resolve conflicts and finally to exploit the data themselves. The second part of our contribution concerns a new tool of graphic and chronological visualization. This system allows to represent on a temporal component the information related to a given domain, and also to show the needed and the authorized information to the user. We develop these proposals by illustrating them in an application domain that presents many complexity factors: medical information systems. Our proposals were validated throughout two prototypes development: the OR (Object Reconstruction) prototype and the Travel’In prototype

Full textSatellite communication systems are used in the context of broadcasting, navigation, rescue, and disaster relief since they allow the provision of services over a wide coverage area. However, this coverage area is limited by the masking effect caused by obstacles that block the Line-Of-Sight (LOS) link between the satellite and a terrestrial user. The masking effect becomes more severe in case of low satellite elevation angles or when the user is indoor. To address this issue, Hybrid Satellite-Terrestrial Cooperative Systems (HSTCSs) have been proposed. In an HSTCS, the mobile user can exploit the diversity advantages by receiving signals from both satellite and terrestrial components. Fixed or mobile gap-fillers are used to relay the satellite signal. Most of satellites broadcasting systems have been implemented using fixed gap-fillers while mobile gap-fillers are needed in emergency cases when the fixed infrastructure is not available. In emergency scenarios (e.g., fire, earthquake, flood and explosion), the existing terrestrial infrastructure has been destroyed. So, an HSTCS is appropriate for transmitting the information between the rescuers and the central office. This allows the rescuers to operate efficiently. In particular, a fast and flexible implementation is needed and this could be provided by deploying mobile gap fillers (vehicle or mobile handheld). Recently, the topic of HSTCSs has gain interest in the research community. Several cooperative scenarios and transmission techniques have been proposed and studied. However, most of existing approaches only provide a performance analysis based on simulation results and the analytical expression of the exact Symbol Error Probability (SEP) is generally not provided. This dissertation focuses on the performance analysis of HSTCSs. The exact closed-form outage probability and SEP of Selective Decode-and-Forward (SDF) transmission scheme with and without relay selection are derived for both M-ary phase shift keying (MPSK) and M-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (MQAM) schemes. This analytical SEP helps in designing and dimensioning HSTCSs. Our results are applicable to both fixed and mobile relaying techniques. Another part of the dissertation is dedicated to synchronization issues (time, frequency shifting/spreading). The mobility of users induces a Doppler spread in the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) signal that destroys the orthogonality of subcarriers. The loss of orthogonality produces Inter-subCarrier Interference (ICI) and hence a degradation of the system performance in terms of SEP. In this case, we present the conditions in which this degradation can be compensated for by an increase in the Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) at the transmitter side. The result depends on both the modulation scheme and the speed of the mobile users

Air renewal, which is necessary to guarantee indoor air quality, represents a significant thermal loss in the energy balance of efficient buildings. Moreover, domestic hot water (DHW) needs become more important than heating needs. In this context, solar thermal systems can produce a significant part of the thermal needs in buildings. Indeed, this work studies a solar thermal system producing DHW and fresh air preheating. The operating principle is first analysed experimentally. As the system seems promising, a co-simulation between Dymola (using the Modelica language) and EnergyPlus is used to do a detailed study of the system performances in a building based on different assumptions and for different design parameters. The results show a better collector yield and tank efficiency regarding a classic solar water heater, as well as an increase of the solar fraction including DHW production, air preheating and space heating

The cabin heating system management who has a significant impact on the consumption is considered in a different EMS than the traction system management. Optimal EMS enables to evaluate the ideal power splitting to reach the minimal consumption. If this EMS can be theoretically evaluated in simulation, it cannot be implemented in real time. Nevertheless, it is possible to deduce a real time EMS using the results of the optimal EMS. This deduction is complex and no methodology is available to structure this conception. The objective of this thesis is to propose an EMS of a hybrid vehicle who includes the management of the traction system and of the heating system. To do that, the thermal exchanges are modeled and described using EMR (Energetic Macroscopic Representation) to unify all models. Experimental validations enable to evaluate the models accuracy. To finish, a step by step methodology is proposed to organize the development of a real time EMS. The results obtained with this real time EMS are closed to the optimal theoretical result

Full textThis work is a contribution to the active research on new magnetic and electric properties of artificial heterostructures. Ferrimagnetic oxide / non magnetic metal / ferrimagnetic oxide systems have been deposited. In these systems, electrons are confined in the 2D metal layer and many electron reflections occur at the metal/magnetic insulator. Two different magnetisation alignments of the magnetic oxides (parallel and antiparallel) are required to obtain suitable magnetic properties, ie giant magnetoresistance (GMR). The growth control and the flatness of the different layers are needed to deposit epitaxial layers, in which electron scattering at grain boundaries is limited. Films are deposited by sputtering in a UHV chamber, structural studies have been made using mainly transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. An epitaxial growth of single Fe3O4 and CoFe2O4 films has been obtained on Al2O3(0001) with a [111] growth axis and on MgO(001) with a [001] growth axis. We have also studied magnetic properties (exchange anisotropy) of epitaxial Fe3O4(x nm)/NiO(66 nm) bilayers , x varying from 5nm to 50nm, grown along a [111] and a [001] axis. Non oxydable metal growth (Pt, Au and Ag) on (001) et (111) Fe3O4 crystals has also been investigated. We have achieved epitaxial growth of Fe3O4 / M(Au, Pt) / CoFe2O4 layers on Al2O3(0001) with flat interfaces and suitable magnetic properties. Electric investigations have shown that the electrons are confined in the metallic layer. We have measured a 1. 8% GMR ratio at 10K resulting from electron reflections at the metal/oxide interfaces with a large part of specular reflexions

Full textAccess to electrical power is essential for industrial and socio-economic development in every country of the world. In Benin, the issue of the electricity shortage remains a serious concern and arises strongly in rural areas of the country. Furthermore, Benin has an interesting potential in photovoltaics (PV) and hydropower (hydro), but which remains globally under-exploited. This research focuses on Optimal sizing of a Hydroelectric-Photovoltaic-Storage Hybrid System for remote rural power supplying. During this work, we modeled the main components of the hydro-PV-storage hybrid system, such as the penstock, the electromechanical equipment (turbine and generator), the PV generator, the batteries (Bat), the inverters and the converters. Indeed, the modeling and the optimization of the penstock with the genetic algorithm NSGA II allowed to note that the investment cost of the penstock (C_(inv_cond) ) increases with its hydraulic power (P_cond ). P_cond and C_(inv_cond) increase respectively logarithmically and quadratically with the diameter (D_cond ). Likewise, the modeling and optimization of the generator have shown that its total mass increases with its efficiency. As for the modeling of the electromechanical equipment cost, the taking into account of the continental factors allowed to better estimate this cost. The second part of the thesis is devoted to the optimization of different energy sources configurations, such as the hydroelectric plant, PV system, hydro-PV hybrid system and hydro-PV-Bat hybrid system. Two objective functions have been considered: the total generated energy and the energy production cost. The solutions obtained are presented in the form of Pareto front. the energy production cost of the PV system increases linearly with its total generated energy. For the cases of the hydroelectric plant and hydro-PV hybrid system, the solutions are grouped into four categories according to the number of hydropower units: {n_hyd=1,2,3,4}. As for the case of the hydro-PV-Bat hybrid system, the solutions are grouped into two main categories according to the number of batteries: {n_Bat=64,192 }. For n_Bat=64, the solutions are classified in four groups according to n_hyd: {n_hyd=1,2,3 et 4}, whereas for n_Bat=192, we have three cases {n_hyd=2,3 et 4}. The total generated energy and the energy production cost increase with the nominal turbine flow rate Q_(T_n ). Specifically, the compromise between the objective functions is in favour of the total generated energy for n_hyd=1 (the case of the hydroelectric plant), for {n_hyd=1,2} (case of hydro-PV) and for {n_Bat=64 & n_hyd=1 à 4} and {n_Bat=192 & n_hyd=2,3} (case of hydro-PV-Bat). In these cases, it is preferable to increase the total generated energy. On the other hand, the energy production cost is favored in the case of {n_hyd=2,3,4} (for the hydroelectric plant), {n_hyd=3,4} (for hydro-PV) and {n_Bat=192 & n_hyd=4} (for hydro-PV-Bat). Then we will opt for the reduction of the energy production cost
