Abstract:
Recent advances in artificial intelligence have seen limited adoption in systematic reviews, and much of the systematic review process remains manual, time-consuming, and expensive. Authors conducting systematic reviews face issues throughout the systematic review process. It is difficult and time-consuming to search and retrieve, collect data, write manuscripts, and perform statistical analyses. Screening automation has been suggested as a way to reduce the workload, but uptake has been limited due to a number of issues, including licensing, steep learning curves, lack of support, and mismatches to workflow. There is a need to better a lign current methods to the need of the systematic review community.Diagnostic test accuracy studies are seldom indexed in an easily retrievable way, and suffer from variable terminology and missing or inconsistently applied database labels. Methodological search queries to identify diagnostic studies therefore tend to have low accuracy, and are discouraged for use in systematic reviews. Consequently, there is a particular need for alternative methods to reduce the workload in systematic reviews of diagnostic test accuracy. In this thesis we have explored the hypothesis that automation methods can offer an efficient way tomake the systematic review process quicker and less expensive, provided we can identify and overcomebarriers to their adoption. Automated methods have the opportunity to make the process cheaper as well as more transparent, accountable, and reproducible

Abstract:
Systematic review examining Third Wave Interventions for adults with epilepsy. Following review of 4 databases and gray literature by 2 independent reviewers, 4 RCT papers were selected for review based on inclusion criteria. All 4 studies reported positive effects of third wave therapy based interventions with medium to large effect sizes; intervention groups had better outcomes than control or comparator groups. Only 2 studies conducted longitudinal data collection. Research: Cross sectional survey using the Common Sense Model of Illness Representations (CSM) as a framework, 65 patients adjustment to hand injury will be examined in terms of the role of their illness beliefs and coping styles. Adjustment will be considered from a complete perspective including quality of life and functional ability as well as mood and trauma symptoms. The CSM was found to significantly predict adjustment to hand injuries with the regression models explaining between 30.4 - 67.1% variance. All 5 models indicated the strong predictive influence of illness beliefs as well as a number of specific coping styles. Illness beliefs play a strong predictive role in anticipating how an individual will adjust to their hand injury. More optimistic beliefs and adaptive coping styles are associated with improved adjustment; the significant role of psychological variables in both predicting and optimising adjustment is discussed, including the role of possible psychological interventions.

Abstract:
Systematic reviews and meta-analyses are widely used to inform guidelines, policy, and practice. Yet, there are several limitations associated with traditional systematic reviews. Potential sources of bias, such as publication bias and selective outcome reporting, can produce misleading results, and when individual studies collect different outcomes or use different measures to assess the same outcomes, this can make them difficult and sometimes impossible to synthesise. Traditional aggregate data meta-analyses give estimates about average effects, but provide limited reliable information on whether intervention effects vary across different populations, or whether differences between intervention characteristics may lead to differential effects. This is particularly problematic in an era that is steering away from a one-size-fits-all approach and toward precision medicine. In addition, traditional meta-analyses only include head-to-head comparisons of two interventions at a time when in reality, there are often more than two options that practitioners need to choose between. To explore these limitations and propose solutions, this thesis presents a series of nine manuscripts.

The deployment of warehousing facilities is seen as a source of increased level of service and reducing costs along the supply chain. This master thesis aims to analyze the state of the art regarding the design of warehouses using the methodology of systematic literature review. The period of publication raised ranges from 1999 until 2011 and Science Direct was the electronic database explored. To guide the review a conceptual model was developed considering the decisions that are beyond the scope of the design of warehouses, which was called a framework. The framework is divided into three major parts. The first part, input, represents the decisions that precede the design and deployment of warehousing operations in a facility and which directly impact at this stage. The second part is the design and deployment, and brings the most important decisions to install a warehouse and what metrics are used to evaluate the performance of warehouse operations. Finally, the last part, output, representes the the final goal of designing a warehouse for the company. The way the framework is structured suggests that levels of decisions are interactive and can not be analyzed separately, a fact corroborated by the analysis of the studies found. Finally, it is expected that the present master thesis becomes a tool to warehouse design professionals, as well as support for future research on the subject.

Abstract:
Background: Compression Tissue Flossing (CTF) is getting more and more popular. However, it is still unclear about the usability and function of CTF. Objective: The main objective was to investigate the current evidence on the function and usability of CTF by doing a systematic review. Methods: A PRISMA checklist was used to write this systematic review. Inclusion criteria; studies that examined CTF and its different effects published 2013-2021. The exclusion criteria were studies that were not published in English. The information sources used in this systematic review was done on PubMed and EBSCO (MEDLINE, CINAHL, SPORTDiscus) and as hand research. The methodological quality was assessed using the Physiotherapy Evidence Database scale and the AMSTAR. The method used to present the results is by organized tables where the study results are shown.   Results: A total of 25 articles was included in the review. A total of 509 participants (mean age 22,6) was included. The average physiotherapy database score was 56% (range= 18,1%-81,8%). 15 studies were considered as high quality, 10 as low quality. Compression Tissue Flossing showed many different significant effects as increased range of motion, countermovement jump, rate of force development, increased torque, jump height, jump velocity, reduced muscle contraction time, and perception of flexibility. Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that compression tissue flossing has a good potential to be used in different contexts of sports performance/medicine. More studies are needed to validate the use of different floss bands and use them in bigger epidemiological settings as it right now seems to lack in its consistency depending on the pressure and application.

Ajanaku, Abiola Olatokunbo. "Systematic Review of Nurse Residency Programs." ScholarWorks, 2018. https://scholarworks.waldenu.edu/dissertations/4771.

Full text
Abstract:
The first 2 years of a new graduate nurses career can be stressful and traumatic. Many new graduates leave the profession within their first 2 years of employment. Organizations have sought to implement programs that will promote new graduate job retention. Nurse residency programs (NRPs) are programs geared toward fostering and nurturing new graduates once they begin their nursing careers. Residency programs can last anywhere from 3 months to 1year, depending on the nursing specialty. A key component in retaining new graduates is to facilitate a successful transition into nursing practice. This project served as a systematic review regarding the current state of NRPs and best practices to assure a successful implementation. A total of 44 articles met the inclusion criteria identified for the project. Analysis of each article used Melnyk and Fineout-Overholt's 7 levels of evidence. Benner's novice to expert theory served as the theoretical framework for this project. This systematic review revealed variety in the length and type of NRPs. Best practices include the usage of the University Health System Consortium (UHC)/ American Association of Colleges Nursing (AACN) or Vizient model. NRPs may differ in curriculum however each program supports the increase in NG retention and job satisfaction as well as new graduate improved competence and confidence. Assuring that new graduates receive a successful orientation and transition into practice will promote positive social change within the organization, improved new graduate competence, and, ultimately, quality patient outcomes.

Abstract:
E soprattutto, come possiamo misurarlo?

Abstract:
A Thesis submitted to The University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Medicine.
Severe acute malnutrition (SAM) affects 13 million children under the age of 5 worldwide, and contributes to 1‐2 million preventable deaths each year. Malnutrition is a significant factor in approximately one third of the nearly 8 million deaths in children who are under 5 years of age worldwide. There have been many revolutions in treatment of SAM over time; however, the exact etiology of this preventable condition is not well understood. This review serves to identify the most common risk factors for the development of SAM in children and to identify the most effective treatment for the disease. There are many factors that contribute to developing and surviving SAM as a child, and this systematic review serves to highlight the most common variables that lead to this cause of mortality. An exhaustive review of PubMed was conducted to complete this review. The literature review demonstrates that the most common risk factor for the development of SAM is low maternal literacy.

Abstract:
This literature review seeks to identify the major security issues and their solutions in cloud computing security as well as identifying areas for future research. Utilising a modified version of the approach suggested by Okoli and Schabram (2010) 52 articles were considered for the review, of which 26 were included in the final product. Although many security issues and solutions were identified it has become apparent that much of the research being done only relates to the theoretical side. Thus this review shows that while plenty of issues have been identified future research should focus more on the practical implications of these security risks.

Abstract:
Software engineering research has been, and still is criticised as being immature and unscientific due to lack of evaluation. However, software engineering community is now focusing more on empirical research and there is a movement to adopt approaches from other mature fields like medical science and one such approach is Systematic Reviews. One of the major activities within the requirements engineering process is to use requirements prioritization that helps to focus on the most important requirements. There are many prioritization techniques available to prioritize software requirements; still there is lack of evidence of which technique to prefer. The reasons could be the differences in contexts, measurement of variables and usage of data sets. In this thesis, the area of requirements prioritization has been systematically reviewed in order to assess what evidence regarding different prioritisation techniques exist. The results from different studies are contradictory in nature due to variations in study designs, research methodologies and choice of different dependent and context variables. Based on the results of the systematic review, a research framework has been proposed to provide the researchers with a common background for further research with in requirements prioritization area. The goal of the framework is to develop reliable knowledge base as well as help researchers conduct and report prioritization studies.

Abstract:
Objective: ADHD may be associated with enhanced divergent thinking (DT); however, the extent to which this is a consistent finding across empirical studies is unclear. Accordingly, this paper reviews the association between ADHD and DT. Method: A systematic review of case/control studies was completed. There were 179 records identified, of which 10 met inclusion criteria for this review. Results: The majority of studies were of low-to-moderate quality and it was therefore not possible to meta-analyse the results across studies. A narrative review indicated only modest case/control differences in DT and for only some DT domains, specifically for Originality and Flexibility. Conclusions: Overall, these findings indicate that DT is not impaired among individuals with ADHD and is possibly enhanced in the domains of Originality and Flexibility; however these findings are limited by the low quality of included studies. High quality research into ADHD and DT is therefore required in future.

Abstract:
Asystematic review of health problems following tsunamis Introduction: Tsunamis are sudden onset disasters with substantial impact on human health. Toidentify the relationship between tsunamis and health problems, the evidence must besystematically reviewed. Through this, health care response can be planned accordingly. Aim: To identify the health problems following tsunamis in order to guide medical response. Methods and materials: Four databases (Medline, Global Health, Web of Science CoreCollection and Embase) were searched using an inclusive search strategy in September 2018.The inclusion criteria were published, peer-reviewed articles on morbidity with data frommedical health facilities following tsunamis, where a control or comparison group was used toanalyze the tsunami outcome. Studies on mental health problems were excluded. The studieswere analyzed through narrative synthesis. Results: Eleven articles were included in the review. There was an increase in non-traumaticconditions reported in the immediate aftermath of tsunamis. Long-term health problems on thetsunami-affected population were seen up to three years after a tsunami. There is a lack of highqualityarticles on health problems after tsunamis. Conclusions: Medical response should prepare for trauma and non-trauma care shortly after atsunami and expect an increase in certain health problems several years post-tsunami. Existing,high-quality research is limited, and this review could not capture all tsunami-related healthproblems. Future studies that identify available evidence on health care needs after tsunamisshould consider using scoping reviews to cover a broader base of literature.

Abstract:
The competitive nature of industries and emergence of newer technologies demands an improving and creative approach in the development of software solutions. Conventional approaches to software development are characterized by sequential stiffened procedures with rigid management practices. These approaches limit the potential of alternative creative processes by impeding the adoption of one’s intuition, ability to explore, knowledge sharing and collaboration among developers. Software Engineering (SE) is a complex domain that requires intense creative activities for its sustainability; hence a firm understanding of creativity is in need. Creativity is a cognitive activity that is influenced by people, process, product and place. The study identified 89 primary studies through systematic literature review conducted to analyze, synthesize and aggregate evidences regarding the state-of-art on research of creativity in software engineering with the aim of addressing the techniques, tools, factors and measurement of creativity in software engineering domain. The findings revealed that the requirement and design phases of software development are more important stages in the development process where design decisions are made and creativity is much emphasized. Factors categorized as extrinsic and intrinsic factors are said to influence creative practices in SE domain. The adoption of creativity techniques such as collaboration, knowledge sharing and brainstorming with appropriate lightweight creativity supporting tools were identified to influence creative practices in software engineering domain, while its evaluation is difficult and subjective. In conclusion, the study advocates the adoption of creative practices with flexible management style in software development towards the building of effective and timely software. However, assertive adherence to traditional practices in software development could hamper creative practices. There exists no ultimate solution to creativity, beyond the harnessing of human cognitive capability. Hence, the management of software project should seek the development of the creative mind (engineers) with an embracing management practices for continuous deliverance of effective and novel solutions. The findings could impacts decision making of stakeholders in software engineering domain towards harnessing of creative practices.

Abstract:
The development and implementation of smart grids involve developing new and improvements in existing energy technologies, introducing information systems to manage the smart grid, monitoring and controlling energy consumption, and closely related to alternative energy and decarbonization of the economy. Scientific research of smart grids differs significantly in terms of topics because they aim to solve problems in each of these areas. Thus, this research aims to present a bibliometric overview to define the current scientific production state regarding “Smart Grid.” A review of 1359 publications from the Scopus database (2008–2020) was conducted. The “Title, abstract, keywords” field of search in the Scopus database was done. The visualization of the results was made using VOSviewer program to map the material graphically. The study used the cooccurrence of keywords and co-authorship (country) analyzes. As a result, the most productive authors and journals were defined. The most cited studies were determined. Country clusters and keywords (co-occurrence) clusters were represented. The obtained results of the analysis and graphical presentations are relevant, and they form the basis for a better understanding of Smart Grid’s concept.

Business processes have facilitated and enhanced management activities, being considered an instrument capable of approximating the strategic guidance and the people who execute their work to achieve organizational goals. In this scenario, continuous evaluation procedures, compliance with government regulations and industry standards, evolutions in the business domain, stakeholders’ needs, new technologies and economic factors related to globalization pressure are examples of aspects that can foster changes on business processes. The impact of this changing environment is the variation of business processes, in a phenomenon called business process variability. The objective of this research is, therefore, to aggregate relevant studies which address the context of this phenomenon. The studies’ selection was accomplished through a Systematic Literature Review, conducting automatic searches in a set of digital libraries and manual searches in leading conferences and journals in the fields of Business Process Management and Computer Science. In total, 13619 studies were retrieved, from which 80 were classified as relevant. This set of primary studies acted as sources of evidence for answering 3 research questions and their respectively subquestions. From the analysis performed, the study concludes that despite efforts in the literature for managing business process variability, this concept is not clear and well delimited, involving additional aspects and, hence, lacking a structured taxonomy. Contributions of the current work are: to provide valuable information with respect to the main notions in business process variability field and, possible types and inductors of process variability;to identify the main challenges faced by organizations when dealing with this phenomenon and; to examine a set of proposals for process variability management, investigating the existence of tool support and empirical evaluations carried out.

Luongo, Dorothy. "Sucrose Use in Children: A Systematic Review." ScholarWorks, 2017. https://scholarworks.waldenu.edu/dissertations/4307.

Full text
Abstract:
Sucrose is a method of pain relief that can be used for children during minor painful procedures. Pain left unrelieved has been found to lead to long-term consequences such as distress, anxiety, needle fear, parental non-adherence with vaccination administration, and avoidance of medical care. Therefore, it is important to ensure pain management methods are provided to infant and toddlers. The purpose of this project was to present a systematic review on the use of sucrose in child in primary care. The comfort theory by Kolcaba served as the theoretical framework in exploring the use of sucrose in children in primary care. A comprehensive search was completed and 37 articles pertaining to the use of sucrose were identified. The articles were appraised using Fineout-Overholt, Melnyk, Stillwell, and Williamson's critical appraisal guide and then categorized using Melnyk and Fineout-Overholt's level of evidence system. This systematic review revealed that 85 percent of the articles identified found sucrose to be an effective method of pain relief for children during minor painful procedures. This systematic review gives a final recommendation that sucrose should be used for pain relief during minor painful procedures for children up to 18 months of age. Future studies should be focused on translating this evidence into practice guidelines to narrow the knowledge to practice gap. The creation of practice guidelines would bring about a positive social change for infants and toddlers by providing pain relief methods such as sucrose in daily practice reducing anxiety and needle fear for children and their parents, increasing vaccine and medical care adherence.

Ubochi, Elizabeth Ndidi. "A Systematic Review of Nurse Staffing Models." ScholarWorks, 2019. https://scholarworks.waldenu.edu/dissertations/7960.

Full text
Abstract:
Appropriate nurse staffing is essential to the delivery of high-quality patient care. Nursing leadership identifies nurse staffing model as an evidence-based staffing model following problems with nursing staff retention on 4 acute care units in a recently opened hospital. The linkage model guided the review of evidence on nurse staffing models and the relationship to nurse job satisfaction and nurse retention and to explore strategies that could lead to recommendations to nursing leadership. The 466 articles found were reduced to 7 articles, 2 at Level 1 (systematic review), 4 at Level VI (quantitative descriptive), and 1 at Level VII (expert opinion). Based on the key findings organized on 4 components of the linkage model (nurse job satisfaction, retention, burnout, and decision-making autonomy), flexibility with work schedules and a self-scheduling model were recommended, providing nurses with the freedom to organize shifts around non work responsibilities. Successful implementation of the self-scheduling model would require staff involvement and support of the organizations to improve nurse job satisfaction, confidence, professionalism, and work-life balance for nurses. In addition, the organization should foster the delivery of quality care in a work environment with an appropriate nurse staffing and patient to nurse ratio. These recommendations have the potential to (a) impact this facility's design of a more evidence-based nurse staffing model with the known benefits of patient-centered care, (b) promote nurse job satisfaction, (c) promote retention, and (d) promote social change within the organization and community.

Abstract:
Using a modified, systematic literature review I will examine issues of subjectivity, gender, and differnce in relation to psychoanalytic feminist theory. Psychoanalytic feminism evolved out of a reaction to classical psychoanalytic theory. In particular, the works of Chodorow (1978), Kristeva, (1977, 1989) and Benjamin (1988) were used. The literature revew will discuss the development of these theoretical perspectives and the understanding of subjectivity, gender and difference in psychoanalytic feminism and the implication this has for clinical practice.

Thapa, Chandra. "Integration of emerging equity markets. A systematic review." Thesis, Cranfield University, 2007. http://hdl.handle.net/1826/2076.

Full text
Abstract:
Emerging equity markets have attracted foreign investor by their higher returns and prospect of superior risk diversification benefits. In light of increasing flow of equity portfolio investments into these economies and their subsequent integration with equity markets of developed world, studies have not only shown concern over the reduction in the long term risk diversification benefits, but also there may be less of increase in the original price of securities. Local economy initiates formal financial liberalisation measures to integrate with world capital markets. However, removal of regulatory restrictions may not attract foreign investments in the presence of other indirect barriers and emerging markets specific risks. Also, the process of financial liberalisation is time varying and not one off event. This creates difficulty in pin pointing the exact date of liberalisation. These complexities cause difficulties in the development of dynamic models for pricing securities in emerging markets and measuring the impact of integration. However, with the removal of direct and indirect barriers to foreign investments, these markets are showing greater integration with world markets. With increasing integration emerging markets are becoming more susceptible to global risk factors. Higher degree of integration should reduce cost of equity capital (expected return) and increase the correlation of returns with developed markets. However, empirical works report the reduction in cost of capital to be lower than predicted by asset pricing models. It is also challenging to measure the degree of market integration because of the constant structural changes observed in emerging markets. Countries have even been found to exhibit segmentation over time. Hence, in the context of asset pricing models the findings on the degree of integration are inconclusive and conflicting.

Abstract:
Objective: To synthesize evidence from the recent interventions to improve organ donation rates and attitude towards organ donation. The effective intervention is defined as significant increases in the enrollment rate of organ donation and positive changes of attitude. And the second one is to give recommendations on feasible intervention designs based on the specific situation of Mainland China. Methods: A systematic review was conducted through PubMed, Cochrane Library, Google Scholar and reference lists. The quality of the studies was evaluated by CONSORT guideline. Results: Nine randomized control studies were included in this systematic review, and the quality of all these studies was average. The main targets of the studies were religious beliefs, distrust medical system, lack of knowledge and fear of premature death. Using lay health advisors, implementing lecture, presentation and discussion, and exposure to mass media with donation information frequently were all identified as effective components to change the attitude and improve the enrollment rate. Conclusion: Based on this systematic review, discrepant interventions could change the public attitude towards organ donation and improve the enrollment donation rate in the United States. However, given the cultural differences in China, more research is needed to see whether implementation of these interventions could improve the situation of organ donation in China.

Huang, Jingjing, and 黃晶晶. "Sleep duration and cognitive function : a systematic review." Thesis, The University of Hong Kong (Pokfulam, Hong Kong), 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/10722/206905.

Full text
Abstract:
Objective: To investigate the association of sleep duration with cognitive function in adults. Methods and Results: Relevant studies were searched through PubMed, ScienceDirect and Google Scholar using keywords of ((“cognitive” OR “cognition” OR “memory impairment”) AND (“sleep duration” OR “sleep hours” OR “sleep time”)). Studies on the association of sleep duration with cognitive function as measured by various cognitive assessment tools in adults aged 18+ years were included. The initiate search generates 415 articles, after excluding studies that were duplicates, not published in English journals and not conducted in adults, giving 10 to be included in this systematic review. These studies were conducted in 6 countries (US, China, France, Spain, England, and Finland) and most of them were cross-sectional studies (7 cross-sectional studies and 3 prospective studies). Most of the studies showed that participants with either long sleep duration (≥ 9 h per day) or short sleep duration (≤ 6 h per day) had higher risks of cognitive impairment than participants with sleep hours of about 7 hour per day. One study showed that short, but not long sleep duration was associated with poor cognitive function while four studies showed that only long sleep duration was associated with poor cognitive function. Some sleep-related factors such as sleep disorder breathing, excessive daytime sleepiness, sleep quality and sleep cycle may partly explain the association of sleep duration with cognitive functions. Conclusion: Most of the earlier studies consistently showed that both long (≥ 9 h per day) and short (≤ 6 h per day) sleep duration were associated with poor cognitive function. These findings provide evidence support for further intervention studies to examine the potential beneficial effect of normalizing sleep duration in preventing cognitive decline.

Abstract:
Background/Aim: Hepatitis C virus infection is a known risk factor of impaired glucose metabolism and diabetes mellitus. Whether hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is also associated with impaired glucose tolerance remains uncertain. The aim of the study was to conduct a systematic review on the association between HBV infection and impaired glucose metabolism Methods: Studies reporting the association between HBV infection and markers of impaired glucose metabolism were identified through keyword search in PubMed and Google Scholar. 10 studies (out of 320) were included in this systematic review. Results were included. Majority (n=7) of the included studies were conducted among the Asian populations. Of the 10 included studies, eight studies reported a significant association between HBV infection and impaired glucose metabolism, proxied by impaired glucose tolerance, impaired fasting glucose, diabetes mellitus, insulin resistance, and metabolic syndromes. The remaining two studies using diabetes mellitus and insulin resistance as outcome measures did not find a positive association with HBV infection. Conclusions: The association between HBV and impaired glucose metabolism is suggestive from the evidence compiled from included articles. However, whether the development of glucose intolerance or diabetes mellitus is linked to an infectious cause of HBV is still inconclusive. Further studies that could improve on the current understanding of the associations between HBV infection and impaired glucose metabolism are necessary.

Abstract:
The Value Stream Mapping (VSM) is one of the Lean Production tools that has been widely discussed in the literature for mapping production processes and services with a focus on reduction of waste and non-value added time. Despite the growing number of publications on the subject, the academic literature reveals the absence of systematic research to present the state of the art. Thus, this dissertation, through a systematic and thorough review of the literature, aims to gather information on the VSM to identify its main characteristics, trends and opportunities for new developments and future research. The review includes 263 abstracts and 91 articles selected for review and classification. The study proposes a synthesis in the form of framework, presenting as VSM is adopted in certain contexts and motivations, tracing a better understanding of how the tool is implemented and their outputs and outcomes that can be generated. It was noticed that the VSM is rapidly spreading to the service sector, especially health care and logistics. However, studies have reported that the implementation of the VSM in practice is a time consuming process. Problems related to resistance in improvements involving changes in the workforce and demand for limited internal resources, have stimulated some researchers to question the use of the tool. This dissertation contributes to a better understanding of the topic and provides directions for future research and VSM practices.

Abstract:

Mindfulness interventions and practice have seen a recent explosion of interest among researchers and practitioners. The present study examines the research literature on the role of mindfulness in the practice of psychotherapists, specifically in the areas of stress management for clinicians, management of countertransference, development of the therapeutic alliance and attunement, development of empathy and therapeutic presence, and client outcomes. Both qualitative and quantitative research articles published over the past 10 years have been included and meta-analytic techniques utilized where possible. Examination of these data shows that mindfulness is associated with better ability to manage stress among clinicians, better therapeutic alliance, increased empathy, and better client outcomes. These data raise important theoretical and practical considerations, including questions about what makes mindfulness effective, issues regarding the use of techniques derived from the Buddhist tradition outside of their cultural and ethical contexts, and others. Implications and ideas for further research are discussed.

Wijesekera, M. "Functional outcome measures in haemophilia : a systematic review." Thesis, University of Liverpool, 2017. http://livrepository.liverpool.ac.uk/3007208/.

Full text
Abstract:
Background: Haemophilia is an inherited bleeding disorder that results in haemarthrosis leading to chronic arthropathy in those with severe forms of the disease. It causes significant disability and affects a patient’s quality of life. Functional outcome measures enable the healthcare professionals to assess the patients’ ability to carry out activities of daily living providing an important input to the assessment of joint disease. Objectives: This study aims to carry out a systematic review to identify the existing functional outcome measures used in the adult English speaking, haemophiliac population and evaluate these instruments based on their development methodology, measurement properties and other properties. Methods: Both PubMed and Scopus databases were searched to identify suitable outcome measures. Once the search identified the instruments, each instrument was searched to identify the relevant pilot and validation studies. Development methodology of each instrument was summarised. The measurement properties were evaluated using the COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement INstruments (COSMIN) 4-point checklist. These measurement properties included internal consistency, reliability, measurement error, construct validity, criterion validity, content validity and responsiveness. The other properties that were assessed include interpretability, generalisability, precision, conceptual model, measurement model, acceptability, feasibility and burden. Results: There were three main outcome measures used to assess function in the adult haemophiliac population. These were the Haemophilia Activities List (HAL), the Functional Independence Score in Haemophilia (FISH) and the Haemophilia Exercise Project–Test- Questionnaire (HEP-Test-Q). Information on the development of instruments was only well provided in the HAL. However the COSMIN checklist proved that the HAL had not assessed all measurement properties. The FISH and the HEP-Test-Q, did not possess very good methodological quality of its measurement properties. With regards to the other properties, all three instruments were acceptable but interpretability was poor. The HAL and the HEP-Test- Q were precise. The conceptual model instruments assessed function in different forms, whereas the measurement model was treated as a reflective model in all three instruments. The HEP-Test-Q had the most amount of burden in comparison to the other instruments. The main limitation of this study was that the FISH, a performance based instrument was evaluated using the COSMIN checklist that was developed to assess patient reported outcomes. Conclusion: This systematic review suggests that the existing instruments produced to assess function in adult persons with haemophilia have not been adequately validated and that the methodology undertaken for this process consists of certain drawbacks. This suggests that there is scope for a new instrument to assess function in the English speaking adult haemophiliac population.

Abstract:
Earned Value Management is a project methodology that has powerful features, still, it is underutilized in practice. This paper presents a systematic literature review examining the extensions made by researchers to the Earned Value methodology and further compares this to the project environments where the extensions have been utilized in. The classification system used in this paper is based on the Project Process and the Project Knowledge Areas and enables in-depth examination of the different extensions. The contribution of this paper is mainly based on the collection of all peer-reviewed articles presenting extensions to Earned Value Management, as well as incorporating the Earned Value methodology into larger frameworks. It also reveals that the Earned Value methodology has been extended to include nine of the ten Projects Knowledge Areas, and three out of the five Project Processes, this means that Earned Value Management has the capability to include comprehensive features.

Abstract:
The issue of changes in requirements in software development due to fast and ever changing business condition attracts various software development processes. These development processes includes Agile, Lean software development and the recent addition of Kanban. Kanban method uses visual display (Kanban-board) to enhance software development by displaying various phases of the development process. Using explicit principles, Kanban method pulls tasks across different software development stages. This method is increasingly important, due to its many advantages, such as, reducing lead time, improving software quality, improving team communication, and increasing employee motivation. However, the knowledge of Kanban in software development is still limited. This study used a systematic literature review method, to analyze relevant literature within the field of industrial engineering; taking into consideration that Kanban originates from the field of industrial engineering. The studies reviewed were published within 1997 and 2013. The search strategy identified 1552 papers, of which 53 were identified as relevant. These studies were then grouped into five themes— description, principles, benefits, performance and types. Based on these themes, the outcomes were then analyzed using existing knowledge of Kanban as related to software development. The focus of this thesis was to uncover knowledge that can be useful in the application of Kanban methods to software development processes. The findings show the Kanban practiced in software development is somewhat the original Kanban in industrial engineering. Nevertheless, the review reveals several variants of Kanban method, driven by various production process environments. The findings also revealed that, the application of Kanban can reduce waste that exists in the form of extra-features. One of the implications of the research is the need to consider impact of context in the application of Kanban in software development process.

Avila, Diego Toralles. "Process modeling guidelines : systematic literature review and experiment." reponame:Biblioteca Digital de Teses e Dissertações da UFRGS, 2018. http://hdl.handle.net/10183/175028.

Full text
Abstract:
Process modeling is an indispensable task in the discipline of Business Process Management. The process models created in this task help its readers in to acquiring a higher comprehension of a process, allowing for the discovery of opportunities for its improvement. However, the comprehension of a process model is not guaranteed, as process modeling is a complex task that depends on the proficiency of the process modeler to avoid the creation of badly designed constructs. Process modeling guidelines are an essential tool in this regard, though they are dispersed across the many studies of the literature and not all of them have empirical evidence validating their effects. In addition to this problem, it is still an open questions if a set of process modeling guidelines makes the process modeling task more challenging and how effective modelers are in using them. It is also unclear how receptive process analysts are to the modeling guidelines. This dissertation presents a systematic literature review we conducted to collect and analyze the modeling guidelines found in the literature. It investigated a total of 520 articles, extracting a total of 45 modeling guidelines spread across 4 different categories. These 45 guidelines were simplified into a set of 20 guidelines, based on their significance to create more comprehensible process models and their practicality. This dissertation also presents the findings of an empirical experiment performed by 13 subjects that compared the results of two process modeling tasks with and without the support of the 20 modeling guidelines presented by the review, in which it was possible to observe that the subjects recognize the usefulness of the guidelines, but find them difficult to understand and use.

Full text
Abstract:
Prostate cancer is the third most common cancer in men globally, and the most common cancer among men in the United States. Dietary choices may play an important role in developing prostate cancer; in particular, a higher dairy product intake has been associated with an increased risk of developing prostate cancer. The overall positive association between milk consumption and the risk of prostate cancer development and prostate cancer mortality has been well documented in multiple epidemiological studies. However, there is limited literature on the association between types of milk, as classified by fat content (skim, low fat, and whole), and the risk of developing prostate cancer. When further examining current state of the literature on this topic, there is a number of epidemiologic studies assessing the relationship between prostate cancer and milk consumption. On the contrary, very few experimental studies explore this topic. Further experimental research may be necessary to examine the relationship between dairy and dairy products consumption and the increased risk of development of prostate cancer. At this time, there are no formal clinical recommendations regarding dairy products consumption for patients who are at risk of prostate cancer development or who have a history of prostate cancer. In this manuscript, we sought to systematically review the existing literature on the association between milk consumption classified by fat content, and the risk of developing prostate cancer. These findings may be useful for the clinicians who provide recommendations for the patients at risk of developing prostate cancer.

Abstract:
Internet technology has paved new diversion in crime and victimization. There is voluminous data related to cyber victimization of adolescents and college students, however there is dearth of research related to cyber victimization of adult women. The purpose of this systematic review was to investigate the prevalence of cyber victimization of adult women other than by intimate partner or ex-partner and to find out their risk factors as well as consequences. Articles were searched between January, 2010 to April, 2020 from ProQuest, PsycInfo, CINAHL, Web of Science, JSTOR, ASSIA and PubMed databases. A total of 2988 studies were extracted, after initial screening, 275 were left for full text review. A total of 14 studies were finally reviewed and qualitatively assessed according to Standard quality assessment criteria for evaluating primary research papers (Kmet et al., 2004). Three were discarded for not meeting the desired quality rating of > .75. Review comprised of multiethnic and multinational sample of 6019 participants, aged between 17 to 68yrs. Results revealed that women are cyber victimized more as compared to males especially sexual victimization is more prevalent among women than men. The important risk factors identified are age, sexual orientation, lack of social support, low self-esteem, control imbalance, opportunity and risky behaviors. Due to cyber victimization emotional distress, pathological ruminations and depression are reported as consequence.

Abstract:
Sleep has become less important in western society during modern times, where many have the habit of prioritizing productive activities instead of sufficient sleep. However, recent studies have indicated the importance of sleep for emotional processing. A crucial finding in literature regarding sleep and emotions has been the enhancement of negative emotions after sleep deprivation. The aim of this systematic literature review was to investigate the neural basis of the effects of sleep deprivation on emotional reactivity. In order to conduct this review, three databases were used to obtain relevant articles. Out of the total 1041 articles, 11 fulfilled the inclusion criteria and were included in the review. The selected articles exclusively contained results regarding reactivity to visual emotional stimuli. Results showed that total and partial sleep deprivation result in enhanced amygdala activity in response to negative stimuli. Enhanced amygdala activity was also found in response to positive and neutral stimuli after sleep deprivation. The insula was another brain region that displayed enhanced activity toward all types of valenced stimuli after sleep deprivation. Moreover, weaker connectivity between the amygdala and prefrontal areas (specifically the medial prefrontal cortex) was found after total and partial sleep loss. Together, these results suggest that sleep deprivation induces hyperreactivity toward emotional stimuli and disrupts top-down regulation of emotional reactivity.
