Abstract:
Excessive accumulation of free radicals can cause a variety of diseases. According to reports, chalcone has the activity of scavenging free radicals. In this study, we synthesized a chalcone derivative CZM-3-5 and evaluated its antioxidant activity using a chemical assessment method (2,2and#39;-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) (ABTS•+) assay, 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH•) assay and total reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assay) and a cell model of oxidative damage induced by hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). The chemical evaluation results show that the compound CZM-3-5 has good antioxidant capacity and free radical scavenging ability. MTT analysis showed that the compound has cytoprotective activity in H2O2-induced PC12 cells, and the mechanism may be related to the cytoprotective substance superoxide dismutase (SOD) is related to the level of glutathione (GSH). Overall, our findings indicate that compound CZM-3-5 has potential antioxidant activity in vitro.

Abstract:
A series of novel benzamide derivatives according to fluopicolide were designed and synthesized following the rule of combination carboxylic acid amides and amines derivatives together. The antifungal activity of the 15 new compounds were evaluated in vitro against five pathogenic fungi, including Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, Gibberella zeae, Rhizoctonia solani, Helminthosporium maydis and Botrytis cinerea. Almost all the structure have not been reported, except compounds 3, 5 and 6. A surprising finding is that all the five tested fungi breed faster than negative controls when supplementary with compound 715 , respectively.

Abstract MCM-48 mesoporous materials were hydrothermally synthesized according to the 22 factorial design by varying the crystallization time and temperature of the synthesis gel, and characterized by means of X-ray diffraction analysis and adsorption of N2. In the crystallization temperature and time conditions used, specific areas between 924 to 1102 m2.g-1, pore volumes between 0.015 to 0.087 cm3.g-1 and pore diameters between 3.2 to 4.0 nm were obtained. It was observed that for the syntheses performed at high temperature, the crystallization time should be reduced so that the material structure is formed.

Abstract:
To develop effective anti-tumor and analgesic drugs, a series of novel 7-azaindole derivatives were designed and synthesized through a four-step reaction. 18 target compounds were obtained and characterized through Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and High Resolution Mass Spectrometry. Their anti-proliferative activities and analgesic effect were evaluated. When the 1-position was a methylsulfonyl group and the 5-position was a nitro group, compound 4f demonstrated the best activity. Furthermore, there was a dramatic difference between the IC50 values of compound 4f in tumor and in healthy cell line. The IC50 values of compound 4f in MCF7 breast cancer cell line was 5.781 μmol/L and 8.077 μmol/L in HepG2 hepatoma carcinoma cell line, but more than 100 μmol/L in HL7702 liver cell line. Preliminary results showed that compounds 3a, 3g and 4i had significant analgesic effects in mice, which were stronger than aspirin. These compounds have good prospects for new drug development.

Abstract:
Platform-based design faces an essential tension: it wants to reuse previous designs to leverage IP; but new designs must necessarily include work that is not complete or well-characterized. Synthesis and analysis methods are therefore important elements in platform-based design methodologies. This paper describes two aspects of this problem. First, we consider the first-generation dilemma, in which we must use additional analysis in order to create the first generation of a platform. Second, we describe a synthesis method that creates accelerators for platforms whose clock periods have been optimized for the system characteristics.

Abstract:
The field of computational design synthesis has been an active area of research for almost half a century. Research advances in this field have increased the sophistication and complexity of the designs that can be synthesized, and advances in the speed and power of computers have increased the efficiency with which those designs can be generated. Some of the results of this research have begun to be used in industrial practice, yet many open issues and research challenges remain. This paper provides a model of the automated synthesis process as a context to discuss research in the area. The varied works of the authors are discussed as representative of the breadth of methods and results that exist under the field of computational design synthesis. Furthermore, some guidelines are presented to help researchers and designers find approaches to solving their particular design problems using computational design synthesis.

Abstract:
The work deals with the design, synthesis and biological activity of new carbamate cholinesterase inhibitors. It is focused on selected syntheses of new carbamate derivatives, which were tested for their anticholinesterase activity against acetylcholinesterase as well as butyrylcholinesterase. Despite various theories in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease, drugs that can inhibit these two enzymes still represent the major approach to the treatment of this neurodegenerative disease. Many of the newly synthesized compounds have unique chemical structure. Recently, the approach to the synthesis of new cholinesterase inhibitors has focused on the preparation of potential drugs, containing in their chemical structure fragments of already known drugs, commonly used in the pharmacotherapy of Alzheimer's disease, but also other diseases. The aim of preparing these compounds is to affect several biological systems simultaneously. These multipotent compounds have been termed "multi-target-directed ligands"; the molecules of drugs used to treat Alzheimer's disease always contain a pharmacophore acting as a cholinesterase inhibitor, which represents the mainstay of therapy.

Abstract:
The Wieland–Miescher ketone, Hajos–Parrish–Eder–Sauer–Wiechert ketone, and their analogues are bicyclic diketones essential as building blocks for the synthesis of several natural and bioactive molecules. For this reason, since 1971, when Hajos and Parrish and Eder, Sauer, and Wiechert reported the stereoselective synthesis of these compounds promoted by L-proline, numerous methodologies and organocatalysts have been studied over the years with the aim of identifying increasingly efficient asymmetrical syntheses of these bicyclic ketones. This review will outline the methodological and stereochemical features of the organocatalytic stereoselective synthesis of these bicyclic scaffolds based on the different organocatalysts employed from 1971 until today. Particular emphasis will be given to the structural features of the catalysts and to the reaction conditions.

Abstract:
This paper presents the authors’ perspectives on some of the open questions and opportunities in Process Systems Engineering (PSE) focusing on process synthesis. A general overview of process synthesis is given, and the difference between Conceptual Design (CD) and Process Design (PD) is presented using an original ternary diagram. Then, a bibliometric analysis is performed to place major research team activities in the latter. An analysis of ongoing work is conducted and some perspectives are provided based on the analysis. This analysis includes symbolic knowledge representation concepts and inference techniques, i.e., ontology, that is believed to become useful in the future. Future research challenges that process synthesis will have to face, such as biomass transformation, shale production, response to spaceflight demand, modular plant design, and intermittent production of energy, are also discussed.

Abstract:
This paper applies evolutionary design techniques to the reversible logic synthesis, and proposes a reversible logic synthesis-oriented multi-objective automatic design method based on evolutionary design techniques. Firstly, build a gate-level array model of reversible logic circuits (RLC) in order to model the synthesis problems as ones of constrained multi-objective optimizations. Then, encode the candidate RLC to a set of binary evolutionary individuals which are solved by the specialized Pareto-optimal multi-objective evolutionary algorithm. In addition, adopt “pre-bit priority” mechanism to repair infeasible individuals and adopt the rule-based local transformation method to simple the redundant RLC. The results of synthesis experiments demonstrate that the proposed method is feasible and effective, and can automatically synthesize the better RLC.

Abstract:
ABSTRACTThe early conceptual design (CD) phase of space access vehicles (SAVs) is the most abstract, innovative and technologically challenging phase of the entire aerospace design life cycle. Although the design decision-making during this phase influences around 80 percent of the overall life cycle cost, it is the most abstract and thus least understood phase of the entire design life cycle. The history of SAV design provides numerous examples of project failures that could have been avoided if the decision-maker had had the capability to forecast the potential risks and threats correctly ahead of time during the conceptual design phase. The present study addresses this crucial phase and demonstrates a best-practice synthesis methodology prototype to advance the current state of the art of CD as applied to SAV design. Developed by the Aerospace Vehicle Design (AVD) Laboratory at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), the Aerospace Vehicle Design Synthesis process and software (AVDS) is a prototype solution for a flight vehicle configuration–flexible (generic) design synthesis capability that can be applied to the primary categories of SAVs. This study focusses on introducing AVDS, followed by the demonstration and verification of the system’s capability through a sizing case study based on the data-rich Boeing X-20 Dyna-Soar spaceplane.
