Abstract:
Jean Buridan donne du syllogisme catégorique élémentaire une théorie qui diffère notablement de la théorie scolastique traditionnelle, dont celle de Guillaume d'Ockham peut être considérée comme représentative. Je n'en veux pour preuve que le fait suivant: alors que selon Ockham il y a six modes «utiles» de prémisses syllogistiques de la première figure, selon Buridan il y en a huit. Mon propos sera ici d'expliquer cette divergence et d'en dégager la portée. Pour ce faire je me propose de reconstituer la théorie buridanienne du syllogisme catégorique élémentaire, c'est-à-dire d'en exposer les composantes essentielles en rendant explicites les concepts et thèses qu'elles contiennent parfois implicitement.

Résumé Le terme de moment est omniprésent dans l’oeuvre de Hegel, et les commentateurs n’ont pas suffisamment insisté sur le sens dynamique du « Moment » hégélien qui n’a rien de temporel, mais dénote plutôt le momentum ou moment cinétique de la mécanique newtonienne. Hegel a donné vie à ce concept de moment et en a fait le moteur de sa dialectique qu’on interprète ici comme une syllogistique dynamique de la sursomption des moments du procès de la conscience et du devenir de l’esprit. Une logique dynamique pourrait récupérer avantageusement cette dialectique des concepts. Mais la lecture critique de Hegel veut montrer comment un concept physique est transformé en notion métaphysique et comment une science de la logique « Wissenschaft der Logik » est dévoyée dans une ontologie où c’est une philosophie de la nature qui devient mécanique en assujettissant la physique à un idéalisme objectif supraphysique. Un épilogue sur le vocabulaire hégélien termine l’article.

Abstract:
Ibn Rušd devoted a certain number of works to Aristotle's Prior Analytics. In a series of opuscules written over a period of twenty years and following upon his Middle Commentary on Aristotle's Prior Analytics, he faced a problem particular to the modal syllogism – that of the mood of the conclusion in mixed syllogisms.The problem can be stated as follows: At the beginning of the Prior Analytics, Aristotle established a formal deductive principle – that of universal attribution (Pr. An. I.1.24b26–30). Applied to the modal syllogism, this principle is inadequate as stated. It is too general to be applied in a univocal manner in all modal syllogisms. To preserve a sense of coherence in Aristotle's declarations, the commentators had to interpret it. Presenting the interpretations of the commentators, primarily al-Fārābī and Alexander, on the basis of al-Fārābī's Large Commentary on Aristotle's Prior Analytics, Averroes criticizes them. Applied according to Alexander's interpretation, the principle of universal attribution is valid only for modal syllogisms one of whose premises is necessary and the other assertoric; according to al-Fārābī's interpretation, it is verified only when the minor premise is possible. Averroes proposes two preliminary solutions. Either this formal deductive principle must be applied differently according to the modal differences of the minor premises in mixed syllogisms (first solution) or would be used in two ways, generally or in keeping with each mood (second solution). These solutions are not satisfactory, for they call into question the unity and universality of the principle of universal attribution as established by Aristotle. What is the utility, Averroes asks, of a principle which does not hold for all modalities or does not apply to all the premises when the Pr. An. ought to furnish formal and universal principles of deduction? And why did Aristotle define the principle of universal attribution without distinguishing its application according to each of the three modal premises? Returning at the end of his career to a literal exegesis of Aristotle's propositions and without harkening back to the earlier solutions, he proposes a theory of making the terms modal (fourth solution) in order to save Aristotle's declarations with respect to the principle of universal attribution and the mood of the conclusion of mixed syllogisms (Pr. An. I. 9.30al5–20). Though formally inadequate, this solution, which had a continued history, proposes a new way of looking at the classification of modal propositions.

Réésuméé: Il s'agit ici d'analyser la faççon dont al-Fāārāābīī (870––950) a interpréétéé l'ēēthos aristotéélicien dans les Didascalia in Rethoricam Aristotelis ex glosa Alpharabii, introduction de son Grand Commentaire àà la Rhéétorique d'Aristote. Alors qu'Aristote organise ses moyens de persuasion en fonction du critèère de technicitéé (pisteis entechnoi vs pisteis atechnoi), al-Fāārāābīī choisit de les classer selon un critèère formel puisqu'il distingue les moyens de persuasion syllogistiques des moyens de persuasion non syllogistiques. Pour êêtre cernéée au plus prèès, l'interpréétation farabienne de l'ēēthos aristotéélicien néécessite la prise en compte des conditions dans lesquelles la transmission de la Rhéétorique d'Aristote s'est opééréée dans le monde oriental, ainsi que le contexte culturel, politico-religieux et philosophique propre àà la composition des Didascalia.

Abstract:
Notre essai analyse les limitations des interpretations formalisees et axiolatiques des theories de l'ancienne logique, notamment du systeme d'aristote:-d'une part, en rapport aux presupposes philosophique qui fondent epistemologiquement les besoins theoriques et la nature semantique des systemes de logique ancienne. Car, ces systemes s'inscrivant dans des trames philosophiques de leur auteur qui les orientent, leur formalisation et leur axiomatisation operent une sorte d'abstraction methodique a l'interieur des problematiques philosophiques qui dirigent leur portee. D'autre part, en fonction de la relativite des notions et des propositions premieres choisies facultativement comme des indefinissables (notions) et des indemontrables 'axiomes) dans l'exposition formalisee et axiomatique du systeme d'aristite. Pour conclure que la syllogistique d'aristote n'etant pas un systeme de lois logiques, serait comme la dialectique des stoiciens, un systeme d'inference prescrivant des regles logiques assurant la securite du raisonnement. De ce fait, leurs lectures modernes comme des systemes de lois ou theses logiques, n'auraient qu'une valeur reductrice corrigeant et adaptant approximativement les theories de l'ancienne logique aux concepts et methodes logistiques de la pensee logique contemporaine s'inspirant des demarches mathematiques
Our essay analyses the limitations of the formalized and axiomatic interpretations of the theories of the ancient logic, spcially the aristotle's system. On one hand, in relation with the philosophical purposes which found epistemologically the theorical requirements and the semantical nature of the systems of the ancient logic. For, these systems coming within their author's pjilosophical conceptions, their formalization and axiomatization produce a kind of methodical abstraction inside the philosophical doctrines which express their reach. On the other hand, according to the relativity of the foremost notions and axioms which are freely choosen as the indefinable concepts and undemonstrable theorems in the formalized and axiomatic presentation of the aristotle's system. Thus, we settle that, the aristotle's syllogistic could not be interpreted as a formal axiomatic system which brings to the notion of thelogical law. So, like the stoic logic, it should be considered as a inferential system built on the formal inference rules which warrant the security of reasoning. Thereby, their modern readings as the systems of logical laws or thesis, would only have a reducing value which rectify and roughly adapt them to the methods of new logic

Cette thèse développe une analyse formelle de la syllogistique assertorique d’Aristote selon une démarche historiquement et herméneutiquement fondée. Une logique dialogique moderne est proposée dans laquelle les résultats d’Aristote et sa manière d’y arriver sont reproduits,fournissant ainsi une alternative aux approches de la syllogistique fondées sur la déduction naturelle. L’idée principale de cette thèse est que la logique d’Aristote se comprend au mieux avec une approche dialogique. Elle est soutenue par une démarche historique fournissant une interprétation dialogique de sa syllogistique et de sa théorie de l’enquête scientifique, à partir d’une étude de ses textes. Cette interprétation de la syllogistique est ensuite formalisée dans un cadre dialogique, lui fournissant ainsi un soutien supplémentaire
This dissertation develops a formal analysis of Aristotle’s assertoric syllogistic that is historicallyand hermeneutically sensitive. It provides a modern dialogical logic that has the same results asAristotle and that develops them in a way akin to Aristotle, providing an alternative to naturaldeduction approaches of syllogistic. The main claim of the dissertation is that Aristotle’s logic is best understood from a dialogicalapproach. It is backed by a historical approach of Aristotle’s texts, providing a dialogicalinterpretation of his syllogistic and theory of scientific inquiry. This interpretation of syllogisticis then formalized in a dialogical framework, thus giving further support to the claim
