Abstract:
This article seeks to develop criteria for evaluating sustainable suppliers in civil construction and to contribute to improving the understanding of the factors that influence the selection of sustainable suppliers. Organizations should develop strategies that motivate suppliers to participate in green supply-chain initiatives, as supplier selection can directly interfere with sustainability performance at work. However, there is a gap in the research that addresses the selection of sustainable suppliers in the Brazilian context of civil construction related to certifications for sustainable construction. To fill this gap, the present article used literature-review methodologies, content analysis, data triangulation, and field research through a survey. The literature review identifies the certifiable standards for sustainable construction most cited in the literature: LEED, AQUA, BREEAM, and CASBEE. The standards analysis allows us to identify seven similar supply criteria for sustainable construction certifications. The parameters of each certification were analyzed to define those related to the selection of suppliers, identifying those that qualify a supplier as environmentally sustainable. We found that 60.7% of respondents work in companies without certifications, 75% know sustainable procurement, 50% of companies had established a sustainable procurement policy, and 83% of companies had a strategy for selecting suppliers. The results of this research contribute to construction companies being able to rank the importance of these criteria when choosing a supplier, in addition to having access to the mapping of essential criteria, allowing a search for greater interaction between the links of the green supply chain and rendering buildings and supplies more sustainable.

Abstract:
Purpose Due to the ever increasing concern toward sustainability, suppliers nowadays are evaluated on the basis of environmental performances. The data on supplier’s performance are not always available in quantitative form and evaluating supplier on the basis of qualitative data is a challenging task. The purpose of this paper is to develop a framework for the selection of suppliers by evaluating them on the basis of both quantitative and qualitative data. Design/methodology/approach Literature on sustainability, green supply chain and lean practices related to supplier selection is critically reviewed. Based on this, a two phase fuzzy goal programming approach integrating hyperbolic membership function is proposed to solve the complex supplier selection problem. Findings Results obtained through the proposed approach are compared to the traditional models (Jadidi et al., 2014; Ozkok and Tiryaki, 2011; Zimmermann, 1978) of supplier selection and were found to be optimal as it achieves higher aspiration level. Practical implications The proposed model is adaptive to solve real world problems of supplier selection as all criteria do not possess the same weights, so the managers can change the criteria and their weights according to their requirement. Originality/value This paper provides the decision makers a robust framework to evaluate and select sustainable supplier based on both quantitative and qualitative data. The results obtained through the proposed model achieve greater satisfaction level as compared to those achieved by traditional methods.

Abstract:
Sustainable supplier selection is a key strategic problem in supply chain management. The aim of this research is to provide a new hybrid multicriteria model for evaluating technology suppliers and validate it with a case study in the banking sector. This approach allows companies to perform qualification, selection, ranking and sorting of suppliers on a sustainable basis. Integration of several techniques is necessary to address this complex decision problem with conflicting economic, environmental and social criteria. Analytic hierarchy process (AHP) is useful for problem structuring and weighting criteria collaboratively. Multi-attribute utility theory (MAUT) is applied to obtain indicators for product quality and supplier risks, whose utility functions are derived by data-driven models that favour evaluation objectivity and transparency. Preference ranking organisation method for enrichment evaluation (PROMETHEE) is suitable for supplier selection due to its discriminant power among alternatives. Finally, FlowSort is proposed to classify suppliers into ordered groups and the outcomes are compared with results from MAUT. Results show its applicability by increasing process transparency and reducing operational risks in practice.

Abstract:
In competitive global markets, sustainable suppliers are critical success factors for sustainable supply chain operations. Sustainable supplier selection must be based on a complex network of numerous indicators and experts’ fuzzy linguistic terms. Considering the correlation between the evaluation criteria and the ambiguity of the criteria values, this paper proposes combining the rough DEMATEL method and the fuzzy VIKOR (FVIKOR) method to solve sustainable supplier selection problem. We determine 15 sustainable supplier evaluation criteria from economic, environmental and social dimensions. We also apply the rough DEMATEL method to determine the weight of evaluation indicators that are interrelated or even conflicting and use the FVIKOR method to determine supplier rankings by converting the fuzzy linguistic terms into precise information. The practicability of the proposed method is verified by an example of sustainable supplier selection.

Abstract:
Industries have to integrate environmental, social, and economic aspects into their supply chain management to achieve sustainability. Hence, the industry needs to take appropriate actions in choosing the right suppliers. The aim of this study is to develop a framework for selecting sustainable suppliers by integrating quality management tools using the Kano model, Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process, and Decision Matrix Method. To identify the critical sustainability criteria, the Kano model by the clustering the criteria for sustainable selection supplier was used. We then used the Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process to determine the weight of each criterion and applied the Decision Matrix Method to select the most sustainable supplier. Afterward, the appropriate proposed framework was implemented in one of the palm oil industries in Indonesia to validate that the framework is applicable and useful. The study shows that the environmental dimension is the most sustainable supplier criteria followed by economy and social dimension. Quality, pollution control, and information disclosures were found to be important sub-dimensions for sustainable supplier selection.

Abstract:
In recent times, sustainability of supply chains becomes the most interested subject by customers, firms, government bodies, academia, and suppliers as the environmental resources reveal as the most valuable and limited asset for human beings. One of the most important elements determining the performance of sustainable agri-food supply chain business is supplier’s commitment. A mainly inspiring feature in this domain is the wide range of factors influencing supplier selection decision-making process in Triple Bottom Line context must be analyzed. However, it is not easy to completely integrate and measure majority of these factors in a simple optimization model. Therefore, this paper starts with a comprehensive review of literature about supplier selection for sustainable supply chains (SSCs) development. Afterwards, a new two-steps hybrid solution method is suggested. In initial step, a set of criteria for supplier selection process is analyzed built on Fuzzy Analytic Network Process (FANP). The result of the first step is fed in to the second step of the analysis to design a model with multiple objectives for selection process of supplier using fuzzy VIKOR. All three dimensions of sustainability; specifically, factors such as weather, water and soil footprint, energy and material consumption, employment, social services and finally financial performance of supply chain are considered concurrently. The suggested approach generates a comprehensive model to help supply chain managers in supplier selection process. Numerical analysis is completed via exploiting data from a Turkish agri-food company case for validating effectiveness, also and success of the proposed solution. Final analytical results of the analysis provide valuable business policy oriented, operational and practical insights on the influence of economic, environmental, and social sustainability for enhanced supplier relationship management module in sustainable supply chain structure. Moreover, by tracking environmental impact indicators such as, emission and pollution rates, footprint rates, against social and cost indicators it would be possible to perform tradeoff analysis for giving more sustainable decisions on new supply chain investments.

Abstract:
Chemical industry plays a pivotal role in the economy in every country. As chemical hazardous materials are usually characterized as inflammable, explosive, toxic, corrosive, and carcinogenic, if accidents happen in chemical company it can lead to irreversible environmental and health damage to the public. The chemical industry attaches great importance to safe production, technical professionalism, and service standardization. Nowadays, under the trend of equipment maintenance service outsourcing in chemical companies, the selection of maintenance suppliers with safe and sustainable records come first and foremost in the supplier selection process. However, these concerns from the chemical industry are currently inadequately addressed by most general supplier selection models. Therefore, this paper proposes an applicable methodology for selecting and evaluating equipment maintenance suppliers in the chemical industry, compatible with a safe and sustainable production context. To achieve the goal of “safe operation and sustainable development in the future”, we established an evaluation criteria framework for equipment maintenance suppliers by combining the general supplier selection criteria and safe production characteristics together. Eight main criteria and 24 sub-criteria based on market acceptance, resource conditions, and safe production were included. Then a fuzzy TOPSIS model was presented to select the best equipment maintenance service supplier. Finally, by analyzing a case in W petrochemical company, the empirical results indicate that the proposed framework is of great practical value to select and evaluate equipment maintenance suppliers for safety and sustainable development in the chemical industry.

Abstract:
Purpose This paper aims to identify and assess the key criteria for selecting green suppliers in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) construction industry. Design/methodology/approach A total of 20 criteria were identified and shortlisted through an extensive literature review. These criteria were grouped into four categories: technical and commercial bid, company characteristics, environmental and socioeconomic. A questionnaire was then developed and distributed to construction professionals in the UAE. A total of 39 professionals responded to the survey including contractors, consultants, owners and suppliers. The respondents performed pairwise comparisons among the selection criteria. Data was then analyzed using the Expert Choice Software. Findings The research findings highlighted that the technical and commercial bid category was ranked as the most important with a weight of 0.338, followed by socioeconomic, company characteristics and environmental categories weighing 0.239, 0.225 and 0.199, respectively. The UAE construction professionals also ranked health and safety, material’s quality and tender price as the top three most important criteria when selecting a sustainable supplier. Practical implications This research addresses the lack of literature toward green supplier selection in the UAE. In addition, it assists contractors in selecting the appropriate supplier and promotes sustainable practices in the construction industry. Originality/value Material suppliers play an important role in the successful delivery of construction projects. Selecting the appropriate supplier is of paramount importance to project success. Several methods can be used to evaluate and select the best-fit suppliers. However, the selection criteria in such methods are primarily based on traditional construction projects rather than sustainable construction projects. Recently, there is an increase in the number of sustainable construction projects in the UAE. Therefore, identifying and assessing the key criteria for selecting green suppliers is needed. This paper fills the gap in literature as to selecting green suppliers in construction projects.

Abstract:
Against the backdrop of responsible economic development, sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) is key to achieving the sustainable development for enterprise and industry. In this regard, sustainable supplier selection is crucial in SSCM. By integrating the three dimensions of sustainability, economic, environmental and social, this paper presents a new evaluation system for supplier selection from a sustainability perspective. Specifically, we design a decision mechanism for sustainable supplier selection based on linguistic 2-tuple grey correlation degree. In this proposed mechanism, the hybrid attribute values whereby real numbers, interval numbers and linguistic fuzzy variables coexist are transformed into linguistic 2-tuples. A ranking method based on linguistic 2-tuple grey correlation degree is then presented to rank the suppliers. An application example is presented to highlight the implementation, availability and feasibility of the proposed decision making mechanism.

Abstract:
The study examines how a select automobile company implement sustainablepractices in their supply chain management to achieve environmental sustainability. The focus of the study is on the two (2) most important aspects of the supply chainmanagement namely Supplier Selection and Product Design. Supplier selection isvital for 2 reasons; focal companies are increasingly being held account for theenvironmental impacts of their suppliers and more value is generated at the supplystage in the value chain. Product designs are vital because it helps reduce energyconsumption and emissions during the lifecycle (operational/use) of the vehicle. The study finds that the select automobile company has a robust procedure forsupplier selection & development using its Supplier code of conduct, SelfAssessment Questionnaires (SAQ) and a Sustainability Rating system for supplierselection and monitoring supplier compliance with environmental performancegoals. To achieve reduction in emissions from the company’s products in the use phase, the company has developed a range of products which focus on fuel efficiency, powertrains (engine) performance, renewable/alternative fuel sources andelectrified vehicles. These product designs are part of the company’sdecarbonization strategy to reduce emissions from its product use which accountsfor about 90% of the company’s carbon footprints (emissions). These products aredesigned with specific/set environmental goals/targets by working jointly with theScience Based Target Initiative (SBTi). An initiative (by WWF, CDP and WRI)which relies on the most recent climate science to help company achieve itsenvironmental goals while meeting its economic goals as well. The company’sdecarbonization strategy are directly linked to its supplier selection and productdesigns in order to achieve environmental sustainability.Overall, the study finds that the company’s practices are in line with existingliteratures on how to achieve environmental sustainability in Supply ChainManagement, for instance, the frameworks by Matthiavanan (2018) and Masoumi(2019) identified sustainable supplier selection & development, environmentalstandards, auditing suppliers, green/environmental purchasing, innovative productdesigns that reduce emissions & waste which are practices identified in the casecompany. Hence, the study reveals there is a strong link between theory and practicein the Case Company. This study has practical implications as insights provided can help other automobilecompanies address environmental sustainability challenges they face in theirsupplier selection process and product designs.

Abstract:
Background: Supplier selection is a very important choice for buyers to ensure a strategic competitiveness and increased demands on sustainability have made that choice even harder. Companies that consider themselves safeguarding social and environmental sustainability  can no longer just focus on the suppliers that offers the lowest prices. Purpose: The purpose with this study was to investigate how Hydroware and other companies within the construction industry could change their way of selecting and developing their suppliers to achieve a more sustainable business. Methodology: The study was conducted as a case study with a qualitative research method and deductive approach. The data has been collected through semi-structured interviews, both onsite and by phone. Conclusion: Hydroware is primarily recommended to implement at clearer process regarding supplier selection and development, in order to later introduce more defined measurements and criterias regarding sustainability. A supplier scorecard has also been presented in order to simplify the measurement and evaluation of their suppliers with the purpose to achieve a more sustainable business. The model will contribute with a systematic approach to follow-up on their suppliers but also with a degree of flexibility.  Because the weights assigned to the criterias can be adjusted and the criterias can be added or reduced based on possible changes in the market or changed priorities.

Abstract:
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports that global warming poses a grave threat to the world’s ecological system and the human race. This phenomenon is very likely caused by increasing concentrations of carbon emissions, which mainly results from such human activities as fossil fuel burning and deforestation (IPCC, 2007). A powerful action is required to stabilize the rising temperatures, involving many countries with a common objective. As asserted by Stavins (2008), without an effective global climate agreement no result will be accomplished. In order to mitigate global warming, the United Nations (UN), the European Union (EU), and many countries have introduced some policies and mechanisms to contain the total amount of greenhouse gas emissions. Among these, one of the primary legislations is the European Union Emission Trading System (EU-ETS). On the contrary, other nations still consider the efforts to mitigate global warming as obstacles to striving for economic growth. Therefore, without a comprehensive engagement, some actors are advantaged and more competitive in the global economy. Some others, involved in emission saving policies, have to face stronger investments and restrictions, with the risk of suffering economic disadvantages. Since the emissions released by companies’ operational activities into the air are one of the main causes of global climate change (He et al. 2015), businesses are becoming increasingly conscious of their carbon footprint and have begun to incorporate environmental thinking into their business strategy and supply chain management. In order to help managers driving companies towards sustainable and efficient purchasing decisions, in this research work the Sustainable Economic Order Quantity (S-EOQ) Model introduced by Battini et al. (2014) is improved by developing a bi-objective lot-sizing model with two different objective functions to minimize (costs and emissions) and integrating the Cap and Trade regulatory policy (characteristic of the EU-ETS). This S-EOQ model is useful in practice to support managers in understanding the Pareto frontier shape linked to a specific purchasing problem, defining the cost-optimal and emission-optimal solutions and identifying a sustainable quantity to purchase when a Cap and Trade mitigation policy is present. The model behavior is analyzed according to variation in the market carbon price and it is analytically demonstrated that today carbon prices are still far too low to motivate managers towards sustainable purchasing choices. Moreover, two innovative bi-objective Sustainable Joint Economic Lot Size (S-JELS) Models under a Cap and Trade policy are introduced (applying the Cap and Trade regulation only to the buyer or to both buyer and supplier), in order to consider costs and emissions related to a two-echelon supply chain, not only to the buyer. By considering two different objective functions to minimize (costs and emissions), both economic and sustainable issues are equally considered and integrated in the contest of a supply chain. In this way, the models lead the Decision Makers to more sustainable and efficient logistic and purchasing solutions, considering a supply chain point of view. With the purpose of helping companies analyzing the trade-offs among different supplies, the S-JELS models can be run iteratively for many sourcing options, in order to build the Pareto frontiers for each supplier and compare then the frontier shapes, the cost-optimal solutions and the emission-optimal ones. One of the two S-JELS models presented (the one with Cap and Trade regulation applied only to the buyer) is then integrated into a procedure for assessing a Sustainable Supplier Selection. The objective is to provide the managers with numerical KPI and user-friendly graphs, in order to help them on analysing the trade-offs among different supplies and on evaluating the selection criteria for each potential supplier in an easier, faster, analytical and correct way. In the end, it is presented a case study from the manufacturing industry. The objective is to help managers on carrying out a Sustainable Supplier Selection between a Domestic and a Far East sourcing, by applying the S-JELS model integrated in an AHP supplier selection procedure. The model is exploited in order to provide the Decision Makers (DMs) with the tools for selecting the best sourcing option for their company. The DMs by iterating the solution process can obtain and compare different Pareto frontiers, being able to consider trade-offs before taking a purchasing strategy decision.

The issue of sustainability, which is an increasingly important consideration in the day-to-day operations of businesses, needs to be addressed in the context of supplier selection. The use of multi-criteria approaches in decisions concerning the selection of sustainable suppliers can be a valuable approach for helping to resolve the complexity of this process. A systematic review of the literature highlighted gaps in the research in this area, such as the lack of a detailed description of multi-criteria methods, as well as a scarcity of sustainability criteria that take into account the three main perspectives (Economic, Environmental, and Social). This work describes the development and real case application of a DEMATEL (Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory) and ANP (Analytic Network Process) fuzzy modeling technique for the selection of sustainable suppliers. The methodological approach used in the research was quantitative, descriptive, and empirical. The modeling and simulations were performed using MATLAB®. Incorporation of the specificities of the process of selection of sustainable suppliers makes the model a useful tool for use by both businesses and researchers concerned with the issue of sustainability. A systematic review of the published research highlights the main state-of-art methods and criteria used for the selection of green and sustainable suppliers. The model is described in a framework highlighting each step of the application. It was subsequently applied by a major glass packaging company, where the supply chain coordinator agreed to assist in the research. The outputs of the second phase of the model showed that the Economic cluster was most important and interacted with the Environmental cluster, while the Social cluster remained practically inert, without interactions with the other clusters. For the three perspectives, the three most influential criteria were as follows: cost, compliance, and quality (Economic perspective); environmental certifications/ISO 14001, reuse/recovery, and pollution control (Environmental perspective); and stakeholder rights, respect for policies, and encouragement of the development of self-sustainable recycling programs (Social perspective). Finally, a supplier was selected using the framework presented, and the criteria that most influenced the decision were highlighted. The procedure developed here offers a tool to assist businesses searching for sustainable solutions, as well as researchers in the scientific community concerned with the development of knowledge in this area.

In recent years, enterprises have focused on improving the performance of sustainable development and satisfy customer needs while complying with environmental regulations in the supply chain management. Therefore, sustainable development has become an important issue in supply chain management. Enterprises are willing to cooperate with the company that has the same consciousness. This study proposes a decision model for sustainability supplier selection and order allocation problem. The model is divided into three phases. First, the Fuzzy Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (Fuzzy DEMATEL) is used to calculate weights of the sustainability criteria in decision process, and find the relationship between the criteria. Second, this study ranks the sustainability performance of each supplier after wights obtained by Fuzzy DEMATEL. Finally, the performance value of each suppliers is considered as one of the objective function. Then, this study uses the multi-objective programming (MOP) to establish an order allocation model. The non-dominated de-sequence genetic algorithm (NSGA- II) is applied to obtain a set of Pareto solutions for order allocation, which can provide decision makers as a reference for supplier selection and order allocation problems.

Under the current “green tide” of environmental protection and sustainable development, Taiwan’s industry, especially electronics industry is facing great challenge due to the effectiveness of consecutive EU’s directives of restricted materials on electronics products, for most electronics companies in Taiwan are OEMs or ODMs for name brand companies worldwide. Traditional supplier selection criteria, which emphasize only on the economic performance of the companies, are no longer sufficient. How to maximize the benefits from the so-called “environmental value chain” or “sustainable value chain” has become one of the most important issues encountered nowadays by electronics companies in Taiwan. The purpose of this study, hence, is to develop a set of supplier selection criteria which not just can evaluate suppliers’ economic performance, but also can assess their environmental and social performance. Literatures and greening suppliers’ approaches adopted by leading companies, such as Sony, Dell, HP, IBM, Toshiba, Panasonic, Fujitsu, and NEC were studied thoroughly. These practical practices of leading companies’s GSCM together with the contents of the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises and other corporate social responsibility requirements can synthesize a draft of sustainable supplier selection criteria. A questionnaire, based on the draft criteria, then was designed and distributed to the suitable personnel of Taiwan’s electronics companies to evaluate and finalize the criteria. After the criteria are finalized, another questionnaire was designed and distributed to several experts to determine the relative importance of each criterion by analytical hierarchy process (AHP). Although the results from the companies and experts questionnaires are consistent, i.e. they both consider the economic aspect is the most important one, which followed by the environmental and social aspects, respectively, the discrepancy regarding the importance of different aspects still exists (i.e. economy aspect, μ=4.29 and weighting =0.4046; environmental aspect, μ=3.77 and weighting =0.3302; and μ=3.28; and the weighting=0.2652). Hence, the effort still needs to be made in order to have coporations to pay more attention on the environmental amdf social aspects. In addition, since the results have reasonable reliability and validity, the proposed framework of sustainable supply chain criteria obtained in this study should be able to be the reference for the enterprises adopt in the future.

It is well known that ‘‘green’’issues began to be more importance from governments .Many countriesgovernments begin to make the regulations and the public opinions which make public pay more attention to deal with pollution problems in many countries. For example, EU passed Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE), Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS).How to determine suitable and green suppliersin the supply chain has become a key strategic consideration. The supplier selection should consider to add sustainability, establish a complete green supplier selection indicators for evaluation. Using a hybrid Multiple Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) that combines decision making trial and evaluation laboratory(DEMATEL) and analytic network process(ANP) isDEMATEL based ANP(DANP) as supplier selection methodology is based on the sustainable supplier selection,it compared with the previous supplier evaluation which less investigate the correlation between the factors, this study assesses the criteria to join the the relationship between the assessment is more complete. In the empirical research ,it’s show us a obvious result. In DEMATEL analysis whitch show that the companies should focus on business regulations and customer requirements as well as management responsibilities, and order to improve this core issue need attention hazardous waste disposal and product content limits. In DANP analysis, hazardous waste disposal and product content limits are the most important evaluation factor,it’s means the environmental protection has become an important supplier assessment indicators.

Abstract:
Abstract Asset management is fast becoming the backbone of modern production as it enables production facilities to operate at a high level of availability, reliability, and operability. One of the major challenges facing the mining sector is the identification of reliable and sustainable suppliers necessary for a matured asset management program (MAMP). This study contributes to that direction. The classical techniques have been used for the selection of sustainable suppliers for optimal operations of mines. However, a survey was conducted among executives and mine operators in the South African mining industry, the results obtained clearly illustrate that the industry employs economic, environmental, and social criteria in the selection of reliable and sustainable suppliers for asset management necessary for the optimal operation of the mining industry. This study further revealed that for the mining industry to operate at an optimal level, it requires a global MAMP, comprising of systems, people, equipment, spare parts, and services. A computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) facilitates the planning, scheduling, workflow, material flow, information flow, purchasing, and inventory management of mining operations. The effectiveness of the Technique for Order Performance by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) and Best Worst Method (BWM) was demonstrated in this study to address the challenges encountered by decision-makers in selecting a reliable and sustainable CMMS within the mining space. In conclusion, selecting a reliable and sustainable supplier that satisfies the key performance indicators of the organization is crucial in attaining optimum operational performance and meeting the business needs of the organization.

Abstract:
Purpose – sustainability in industrial organizations is becoming one of the predominant concepts in the context of modern industrialization due to global warming, economic significance, and social awareness. These have prompted a huge concern toward sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) to be adopted and promoted as an innovative business model. Supplier evaluation and selection play a significant role in SSCM for taking appropriate procurement decisions. Research methodology – a hybrid MADM model based on Best Worst Method (BWM) and Combined Comprise Solution (CoCoSo) method. Findings – a case study in the steel industry is presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. The results show the potentiality of the proposed model in resolving complex sustainability issues in the SCM environment. Research limitations – other weighting techniques like the analytic network process (ANP) and decision making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) approaches can also be combined and performances can be compared. Practical implications – the proposed model can be used by the organizations to select the most appropriate suppliers who contribute to the movement of the SC towards sustainability. Originality/Value – a multi-criteria evaluation model has been proposed for solving a sustainable supplier selection problem while considering economic, environmental and social criteria simultaneously by integrating BWM-COCOSO methods
