Abstract:
‘Time’ considers the strange ways in which Shakespeare manipulates time. In 1570, Lodovico Castelvetro stated that the perfect comedy should be restricted to events lasting no longer than twelve hours and, according to Aelius Donatus, there were four parts to a good comedy: the prologue, the protasis, the epitasis, and the catastrophe. The combination of Castelvetro and Donatus thus provided a formula for a faultless comedy. Clocks, seasons, and the process of aging ceaselessly fascinate Shakespeare as comic dramatist. In the comedies, the normal laws of time are suspended. This manipulation of time is an exceptional achievement that sets the comedies apart from other plays.

Abstract:
This chapter explores the constitutional and political dimensions of the crisis that rocked the Malaysian judiciary in 1988. For the first time in Malaysian legal history, the highest judicial officer in the land was suspended and, after an inquiry to determine whether he should be removed for alleged misbehaviour, was subsequently removed. Following this unprecedented development, two other senior judges of the Supreme Court were also removed from office after an inquiry by a second tribunal. The political dimension cannot be divorced from the constitutional dimension because the legal and constitutional manoeuvrings were consonant with political skirmishes that involved, at one stage, the political survival of Prime Minister Mahathir.

Abstract:
‘The ordinary laws of Nature are suspended. The various checks with influence the struggle for existence in the world at large are all neutralized or altered. Creatures survive which would otherwise disappear.’ Headed by the larger than life figure of Professor Challenger, a scientific expedition sets out to explore a plateau in South America that remains frozen in time from the days when dinosaurs roamed the Earth. Seemingly impossible to penetrate, this lost word holds great danger for the four men, whether from fiendish ape-men or terrifying prehistoric creatures. Arthur Conan Doyle's classic tale of adventure and discovery still excites the reader today, just as dinosaurs continue to grip the popular imagination.

Abstract:
This chapter draws on data from the Generations Through Prison project to explore the familial impacts of incarceration from the perspectives of second and third generation prisoners. Focusing on the intimate relations lost, ‘suspended’, or recreated, the chapter examines how intergenerational incarceration intensifies the pains of imprisonment. The argument here is that irrespective of the ties among those who serve time with immediate and/or extended family members, the deleterious effects of incarceration outweigh the positive dimensions. Further, for intergenerational prisoners serving time ‘on their own’ — that is, without the ‘dividend’ of extended or immediate family — the search for close ties remains key to coping with prison life. As shall be seen, most of the participants in this research had very few, if any, intimates in the community who supported them while incarcerated or who would offer support once released.

Abstract:
The lack of interest in love and God in Heidegger’s Being and Time is curiously suspended in a footnote that quotes Augustine and Pascal on love and the knowledge of the divine in the course of the presentation of the important concept of “affection.” Heidegger confines interest in God to the care of a positive historical theology, and so marginalizes both faith and God at the edge of existence, which is philosophy’s proper concern. But this strategy ignores the way in which anticipatory understanding of being can converge with interest in God in human existence. Love of divine things can be interpreted in terms of Heidegger’s “care,” while his “affection” can accommodate self-discovery not only in-theworld but before-God.
