Full textThe main existing monitoring systems are using vibrations as indexes to detect fault in the global system. In this way, several vibration sensors should be installed on the generator, the gearbox, and the bearing. The main problem with existing condition monitoring systems is that numerous sensors are installed in the turbine which makes the monitoring system complex and expensive. It is shown that the high rate of missed fault detection (about 40%) of gearbox fault exist in the wind turbines equipped with vibration based condition monitoring systems even with employing so many vibration sensors. This shows that vibration based condition monitoring systems are not reliable enough and a new or complementary condition monitoring system are needed. In this work, a potential approach for detecting drive-train mechanical faults using generator electrical signals has been introduced. Since the generator provides electromechanical coupling, the monitoring of its output power could lead to electrical and mechanical fault detection. In this regard, we studied the effect of the gearbox on the electrical signature of the generator for a variable speed wind turbine generator with a wound rotor and partial power converter (known as type -3). For which, we have developed the wind turbine simulator using MATLAB / Simulink. The dynamic of the planetary gearbox in hardly ever considered in the wind turbine model in the literature. Therefore, generic dynamic model of planetary gearbox for condition monitoring and diagnostic purposes is presented in this work. The model of gearbox is using minimum number of parameters, which includes essential non-linearities such as time varying mesh stiffness, transmission error and damping force. The proposed gearbox model is a generic model and is adapted for all possible power flow configuration of single stage planetary gearbox with any number of planet gears and could also be used in other applications than wind turbine

Full textThe natural evolution of hydraulic concrete as well as the effect generated by pathogens (i.e. chloride ions) have a direct impact on the durability of reinforced concrete structures. This thesis project aims at implementing a new SHM approach to engineering structures. This approach is based on the development of a passive, autonomous and low-cost sensor, directly integrated into the concrete coating of the structures and communicating wirelessly with external interrogators. This technological solution aims at establishing a predictive maintenance process based on the monitoring of chloride penetration fronts and therefore of reinforcement corrosion. A preliminary phase of digital modelling and experiments allowed us to optimize the choice of the sensor topology. The first prototypes of drowned antennas insensitive to changes in the dielectric states of healthy and degraded concrete were produced. These antennas were then coupled to loads on the periphery of their radiating surfaces. These fillers are sensitive to chlorides. The combination of these two elements defines the architecture of the passive and autonomous sensor. The operating principle of the sensor is related to the length reduction of its load, which is in direct contact with chlorides due to corrosion. his degradation induces a change in the resonance frequency of the sensor, which acts as an indicator of degradation of the concrete coating. By reflecting the EM waves emitted from an antenna on the surface of the structure, it is possible to recover information about the corrosion state of the load. This defines the principle of our technological solution, without power supply and without integrated electronics. Finally, extensive experimental campaigns on laboratory-controlled concrete test bodies which represent the regional fleet of structures, enabled us to validate our approach

Full textThe Silicon Carbide (SiC) power transistors are more and more used in electric energy conversion systems. SiC power semiconductors devices such as SiC MOSFET can operate at higher frequency and higher temperature compared to Silicon power MOSFET or IGBT. However, the maturity of the SiC technology is moderate compared to the well-known Silicon-based power semiconductor devices. Recent research works on reliability of SiC power MOSFET identified ageing indicators such as the rise of the gate leakage currents or the on-state resistance. The monitoring of these parameters during normal operation can prevent damages and simplify the maintenance on the energy conversion systems. The gate drivers are required to provide an optimal and safe switching of power semiconductor devices. Nowadays, the gate driver boards include more and more features such as short-circuit detection, soft-shutdown, temperature sensing, on-state voltage monitoring… In this context, embedded measurements circuits are proposed for the online monitoring of ageing parameters. The instrumentation of the gate driver board supposes the integration of communication features to transmit the monitoring data. A specific communication method is proposed to avoid the circulation of additional common mode currents due to high dv/dt. A compact demonstrator was designed and tested on a 1.2kV SiC module

Full textThis thesis research work focuses on the maintenance operations scheduling and the development of a design methodology for maintenance. The aim is to suggest a customized maintenance service offer for each vehicle and able to adapt to user constraints. In the transport industry, these constraints are defined by a limited number of maintenance opportunities and vehicle unplanned stops with significant financial consequences. This service offer should enable both to improve the vehicle uptime and to reduce the maintenance impact on operating costs. In this framework, the developed maintenance policy ensures, with a given risk probability, maintenance free operating periods for a multi-component system. During these periods, the system should be able to carry out all its assigned missions without maintenance actions and system fault. And the end of each period, the considered policy evaluates if a maintenance action is required to ensure maintenance-free and fault-free operation on the next period with a specified confidence level. When a maintenance action is mandatory, decision criteria considering the maintenance costs and the maintenance efficiency are used to select the operations to be performed. This form of dynamic clustering, called time-driven clustering, integrates both the component reliability models, the system structure and the available monitoring information. In our case, the monitoring information refers to the component state information and information on the component operating conditions. The process flexibility makes possible to make a maintenance decision in using different information levels for system components. The policy parameters, namely the period length and the confidence level value, are optimized based on the total maintenance cost. This cost, evaluated on a finite horizon, is composed of directs costs related to maintenance operations and indirect costs generated by system immobilizations. In order to reach a significant operating costs reduction, the maintenance policy optimization alone is not sufficient. It is essential to have a broader approach to involve the system and its maintenance since the conception. In this context, the developed design methodology suggests to prioritize the components impact on the operating costs. This prioritization is performed thanks to a defined importance factor. Then, multiple design options are evaluated by simulation in priority component. The selected options lead to reduce the operating costs. This work contains simulation results that illustrate the methods mentioned above. Moreover, a heavy vehicle sub-system is used as a test-case

Full textWith the emergence of new technologies, we are witnessing the development of techniques to improve dependability and in particular the maintainability of static energy converters and their components. In these conversion systems, the electrolytic capacitors, ensuring a stable DC network, represent an important element in the AC / DC and / or DC / AC electrical energy conversion chain. In operation, they are subject to electrical and environmental constraints (ambient temperature, current ripple, applied voltage, humidity, vibrations, etc.). These capacitors undergo redox reactions, which consume and evaporate electrolyte. The lifetime of the capacitor is thus affected. Therefore, it is interesting to estimate the state of health of these components in order to be able to schedule maintenance operations. It is therefore useful to develop tools for applying conditional monitoring. In the context of this work, the objective is to propose a system for monitoring the state of health of the electrolytic capacitors. We have therefore developed evolution models of their aging indicators which are the variations of the equivalent series resistance ESR and equivalent capacity C. The prediction algorithm is based on the evolution of these indicators to estimate the state remaining life of the capacitor module. The real-time monitoring system developed does not include additional sensors to those already existing in the energy converters considered and does not require prior accelerated aging tests. In this manuscript, we first detail the experimental procedure for accelerated aging, the different stages of characterization, the aging process and the associated results. We propose a simple and effective method to identify ESR and C aging indicators in real time. The proposed algorithm is based on time scaling and on a reference frame of temperature and voltage constraints. Subsequently, the results of the simulation of the surveillance system and the forecast of the selected state of health are presented. Experimental tests have been carried out on capacitors integrated into an industrial speed controller with a power of 15 kW. The algorithms implemented and their respective implementation constraints, for a real-time application, are detailed

Full textShaping processes by material removal, also known as machining, are the manufacturing processes most commonly used for the production of mechanical parts, particularly in industrial sectors such as aeronautics, automotive, railways, etc. Although these processes are widely used in industry, the prediction of the characteristic sizes of the machining process is not always accurate, and a poor choice of cutting conditions can lead to abnormal tool wear or even to a deterioration in the quality of the machined part. The fine simulation of machining parameters, aiming at detecting anomalies, is a good example of this problem, as it represents the general problem of optimizing metal cutting to obtain cutting accuracy and anticipate rapid tool wear. This thesis is a contribution to the modelling and simulation of metal cutting, with a view to assisting mechanical parts manufacturing companies in their decision-making, based on knowledge extraction from simulated data. An efficient implementation of an analytical model of orthogonal cutting of metals, able to predict cutting parameters in a reduced time was proposed. The performance of this model was studied by comparing its predictions with the 1045 and carbon steel machining data that are available in the literature. By using the high speed resolution obtained from the proposed implementation, a large quantity of data simulating real cutting conditions was generated, and allowed the elaboration of a machining monitoring approach, based on a deep unsupervised learning method. The implementation with the simulated data highlighted the ability of the proposed detection approach to identify combinations of input parameter values (from the analytical cutting model) that could generate an abnormally high internal temperature; this was considered in the thesis as an indicator of the health of the machining system. Implementation of the proposed learning model gave an accuracy of 99,96 % and a precision of 96%, reflecting its ability to effectively predict the outcome
