Full text
Abstract:
The monograph presents a comparison of the results of the use of carboxyperitoneum and laparolift when performing video laparoscopic cholecystectomy and an assessment of the effectiveness of the use of the author's design tools when performing cholecystectomy from mini-access for destructive forms of acute cholecystitis. Rational surgical tactics for complicated forms of acute cholecystitis have been determined. The effectiveness of the use of laparolift in the initial surgical treatment of patients with severe acute pancreatitis with high surgical and anesthetic risk has been studied. The dynamics of metabolic manifestations of systemic surgical stress response in the surgical treatment of elderly patients with urgent pathology of the pancreatobiliary zone has been studied. Illustrated with original drawings and intraoperative photographs. For general surgeons, anesthesiologists, resuscitators, graduate students of medical universities and academies.

Full text
Abstract:
♦ The design of the surface replacement arthroplasty has evolved over the past 20 years. From cemented prostheses such as the SCAN, to cementless prostheses such as the Copeland, the basic concept and design of the surface replacement favouring maximal bone preservation has remained constant.♦ Indications and surgical technique have been refined over this period, the latest modification being the use of computer-assisted navigation to optimise the size and position the implant in situ.♦ Surface replacement prosthesis has demonstrated clinical results at least equal to those of conventional stemmed prostheses.

Full text
Abstract:
Prosthetic joint infection (PJI), a complication of joint replacement surgery, presents with fever, joint pain, erythema, effusion, and joint loosening. Many advances have decreased the risk of infection, such as the use of perioperative antimicrobial prophylaxis and intraoperative laminar airflow. Joint fluid analysis should be pursued by the orthopedic surgeons; primary and acute care providers should consult the definitive care team and refer these patients for admission. Organisms causing prosthetic joint infections often grow in biofilms, which make them difficult to treat. Surgical treatment options include one or two-stage prosthesis exchange, debridement with retention of the prosthesis, resection arthroplasty, arthrodesis, or amputation. Antibiotic therapy should be guided by intraoperative cultures and selected in consultation with the infectious disease service.

Abstract:
This book provides a concise overview of methods of assessing and managing prosthetic joint infection (PJI). It covers the classification of PJI sites, risk factors, and preoperative assessment, before considering safe patient pathways. Drawn from the authors’ clinical experience and a review of the current literature, the book also explains surgical and drug management of acute infection, the management of chronic infection, and specific microbiology issues relating to PJI. Proposed models for revision arthroplasty networks are discussed and future aims are considered. The proposed pathways are backed by illustrated case histories.
