Abstract:
Purpose Humanitarian supply chain management (HSCM) in today’s environment faces the challenges such as information availability, inventory management, collaboration, logistics related issues and preparedness. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the HSCM performance, considering the consequences in terms of operation, recovery and responsiveness based on the fuzzy estimates of the components presented. Design/methodology/approach In the study, triangulation approach was adapted for collecting data and developing a hierarchical structure for humanitarian supply chain performance assessment. The relationships between HSCM performance and its suddenness and required preparedness are depicted by cause and effect diagrams. The concepts of fuzzy association and fuzzy composition are applied to identify relationships. Findings In the hierarchy presented, the performance in a disaster situation, preparedness and suddenness of the situation and factors that influence the above are modeled. The taxonomy is developed for describing the relationship between factors, their likelihoods and impacts to achieve consistent quantification. Research limitations/implications The study considers case studies from Indian conditions; however, conditions in other countries and their practices for the disaster management may vary to certain extent. Practical implications A methodology presented for evaluating the exposures in considering the consequences in terms of responsiveness, operations, recovery, mitigation and emergency response. The study may help the humanitarian relief practitioners to understand the insights of the disaster situations using the proposed framework. Originality/value A common language for describing the different factors of HSCM is presented, which includes terms for quantifying likelihoods and impacts. The concept of fuzzy association and fuzzy composition has been applied to identify relationships between sources and consequences on HSCM performance. The use of descriptive linguistic variables is ensured through the implementation of fuzzy logic.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this study is to empirically investigate the impact of institutional pressures, institutional logics and institutional complexity on Sustainable Supply Chain Management (SSCM) practices across mixed public and private sector supply chains. Design/methodology/approach Multi-case study data were collected from three tiers of food and catering supply chains: the customer/consumer tier; focal public sector UK Universities; and private sector suppliers/contractors. Findings The findings indicate that: normative and mimetic pressures are more prevalent in focal Universities, compared to suppliers; there is typically no single dominant logic across these supply chains; and the multiplicity of institutional logics (e.g. sustainability logic versus financial logic) increases institutional complexity. Therefore, in the typical case of homogeneity in terms of institutional pressures and logics, e.g. with a dominant sustainability logic throughout the supply chain, radical change in SSCM practices is facilitated. In contrast, in the more typical case when there is heterogeneity, with competing logics at different supply chain tiers, this limits SSCM to more incremental changes in practices. Research limitations/implications This study is limited to three tiers of the food and catering supply chains of UK Universities. Practical implications To aid in the successful implementation of SSCM, this study suggests a need for managers to develop an initial understanding of the prevailing institutional logics and pressures at different tiers of the supply chain. Social implications A number of the SSCM practices studied address social sustainability. Originality/value No previous studies have empirically investigated the impact of institutional complexity in the context of SSCM practices across supply chains, involving both mixed public and private sector organisations.

Abstract:
Reverse supply chains represent an opportunity to create a value stream, not financial loss. Reverse supply chains deserve as much attention at the corporate level as forward supply chains and should be managed as business processes that can create value for the company. Many manufacturing firms have not yet adapted reverse supply chain but view it as the great nightmare to their organizational system. Like many other system, reverse supply chain has also its critical success factors. This research aims to identify the barriers of reverse supply chain management which invariably present in the system. Among the critical success factors, those perform below the threshold were identified as barrier using fuzzy logic technique.

Abstract:
The paper provides an application which is a combination between decision making technique and fuzzy logic to build a supply chain performance measurement system in textile industry in Ho Chi Minh City. The methodology is a combination of theoretical analysis, Delphi quantitative method and Combined Fuzzy Multiple Attribute Evaluation (CFMAE) method. First of all, based on theories on textile supply chain, we developed a hierarchical system for performance measurement. After three Delphi rounds to seek opinions of experts on the system, the CFMAE which consists of two phases (fuzzy integral and fuzzy analysis hierarchy process – FAHP) was conducted to build a supply chain performance measurement system in textile industry with general attributes. The study has constructed a supply chain performance measurement system in textile industry in Ho Chi Minh City with suitable attributes. The weight of attributes is determined as a general viewpoint of the industry of the importance of the attributes to the supply chain performance. In terms of practicality, this paper provides an approach in the performance measurement for the textile supply chain that serves as a framework for a centralized and effective improvement. The scientific meaning of this paper is the application of the fuzzy logic in economics and management to eliminate the subjectivity in the decision making process.

Abstract:
A major assumption in the supply chain management literature is that there is an economic rationale to the integration of processes across firm boundaries. In essence, it is assumed that there is a benefit in adapting and coordinating the activities carried out in sequence by the actors in the supply chain. The purpose of this paper is to further develop and evaluate this fundamental assumption. Based on a theoretical framework regarding interdependencies and the analysis of five different supply chains, it is proposed that there are theoretical as well as empirical reasons for enhancing the underlying logic of process integration in supply chain management to capture pooled and reciprocal interdependencies. It is argued, that by enhancing the logic, one might better understand how managers prioritize their firms' strategic actions and therefore also actual organizational behavior.

In this paper, the conceptual model of risk-based cost estimation for completing tasks within supply chain is presented. This model is a hybrid. Its main unit is based on Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS). Due to the fact that the important and difficult to evaluate input information is vector of risk-occur probabilities the use of artificial intelligence method was proposed. The model assumes the use of fuzzy logic or artificial neural networks – depending on the availability of historical data. The presented model could provide support to managers in making valuation decisions regarding various tasks in supply chain management.

The issues of evaluating and improving supply chains are among the complex issues due to the diversity of factors affecting performance, as well as the gap between these factors and how they are applied. The current study aims to evaluate the performance of the Supply chains of the dairy factory, College of Agriculture, using artificial neural networks and fuzzy logic by relying on the balanced scorecard as a basic methodology for evaluation, which consists of five main aspects (financial - customer - internal processes - learning and growth - Suppliers). Each aspect has several sub-criteria and by obtaining the opinions of experts in evaluating these criteria for several days and then training the network to make a decision related to evaluating the supply chain and processing the outputs of the neural network with fuzzy logic to classify performance into four main categories, each of which represents the state of the supply chain and what distinguishes the model its ability to continuously evaluate the supply chain and employ artificial intelligence tools in managing the supply chain.

Abstract:
Purpose A plethora of studies focused on the cause and solutions for the bullwhip effect, and consequently many have successfully experimented to dampen the effect. However, the feasibility of such studies and the actual contribution for supply chain performance are yet up for debate. This paper aims to fill this gap by providing a holistic system-based perspective and proposes a fuzzy logic decision-making implementation for a single-product, three-echelon and multi-period supply chain system to mitigate such effect. Design/methodology/approach This study uses system dynamics (SD) as the central modeling method for which Vensim® is used as a tool for hybrid simulation. Further, the authors used MATLAB for undertaking fuzzy logic modeling and constructing a fuzzy inference system that is later on incorporated into SD model for interaction with the main supply chain structure. Findings This research illustrated the usefulness of fuzzy estimations based on experts’ linguistically and logically defined parameters instead of relying merely on the traditional demand forecasting based on time series. Despite the increased complexity of the calculations and structure of the fuzzy model, the bullwhip effect has been considerably decreased resulting in an improved supply chain performance. Practical implications This dynamic modeling approach is not only useful in supply chain management but also the model developed for this study can be integrated into a corporate financial planning model. Further, this model enables optimization for an automated system in a company, where decision-makers can adjust the fuzzy variables according to various situations and inventory policies. Originality/value This study presents a systemic approach to deal with uncertainty and vagueness in dynamic models, which might be a major cause in generating the bullwhip effect. For this purpose, the combination between fuzzy set theory and system dynamics is a significant step forward.

Abstract:
PurposeThe purpose of this research is to determine the convenience of using a contract model as an integration mechanism for decision-making in a decentralized supply chain of small agricultural producers in a developing country, taking as hypothesis coordinated chain achieves better management. The analysis is based on information obtained by direct inquiry to 99 small producers in the region, about planning, production, marketing and distribution in the chain, supplemented with secondary information sources.Design/methodology/approachAs a methodology an analysis of maturity in the chain based on the Capability Maturity Model Integration is done, whose evaluation is later analyzed as a fuzzy logic model, with the support of the fuzzy logic of the MATLAB toolbox, to study the convenience of the use of the contract against the other mechanisms, and to establish an approximation to the level of readiness of the chain toward integration.FindingsResults obtained show that the small farmer supply chain studied, from a maturity perspective, has a strong disposition for the use of contracts as an integration mechanism.Research limitations/implicationsThe supply chain for small producers presents a high dispersion, little consolidated offer capacity and lack of coordination. Limitations in terms of information and criteria unification are a challenge for future research. Results have socioeconomic implications for small producers and can serve as a guide to formulate policies by the governments in Latin American countries.Practical implicationsAs practical implications, it can be stated that the use of supply contracts is a real mechanism that can be implemented in this type of chain, to break the mistrust between the echelons and improve the supply chain performance. This research will allow to establish support programs from local governments for the sustainability and improving income of small producers. In addition, contracts will allow to formalize the linkage of small producers to a sustainable commercial network.Social implicationsSmall agricultural producers in developing countries live in unfavorable conditions, with socioeconomic limitations. This work offers an alternative for their productive activity development that will allow them access to marketing chains in a safe way and improve their living conditions.Originality/valuePrevious studies related to the maturity toward the chain integration and fuzzy logic as a hybrid methodology, were not found in the literature, and less even applied to a chain of small agricultural products.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to propose an approach that integrates three complementary perspectives, multi-agent systems, fuzzy logic and case-based reasoning. Unsatisfied customers, information overload and high uncertainty are the main challenges that are faced by today’s supply chains. In addition, a few existing agent-based approaches are tied to real-world supply chain functions like supplier selection. These approaches are static and do not adequately take the qualitative and quantitative factors into consideration. Therefore, an agent-based framework is needed to address these issues. Design/methodology/approach – The proposed approach integrates three complementary perspectives, multi-agent systems, fuzzy logic and case-based reasoning, as a common framework. These perspectives were rarely used together as a common framework in previous studies. Furthermore, an exploratory case study in an office furniture company is undertaken to illustrate the value of the framework. Findings – The proposed agent-based framework evaluates supply offers based on customers’ preferences, recommends alternative products in the case of stock-out and provides a collaborative environment among agents who represent different supply chain entities. The proposed fuzzy case-based reasoning (F-CBR) approach reduces the information overload by organizing them into the relevant cases that causes less overall search between cases. In addition, its fuzzy aspect addresses the high uncertainty of supply chains, especially when there are different customers’ orders with different preferences. Research limitations/implications – The present study does not include the functions of inventory management and negotiation between agents. Furthermore, only the case description and case retrieval phases of the case-based reasoning approach are investigated, and the remaining phases like case retaining, case reusing and case revising are not included in the scope of this paper. Originality/value – This framework balances the interests of different supply chain structural elements where each of them is represented by a specific agent for better collaboration, decision-making and problem-solving in a multi-agent environment. In addition, the supplier selection and order gathering mechanisms are developed based on customers’ orders.

Abstract:
<p>Nowadays small, medium and severe disasters are threatening our world. One of the important role players in alleviating these traits are humanitarian relief supply chains. The increasing number of disasters in our planet earth urges the humanitarian relief supply chains to focus on the assurance of safety of the victims. In order for this to occur, these supply chains should work effectively and efficiently. This can be possible through considerable evaluation of their supply chain performance. In this paper a literature review on supply chain performance evaluation in general and humanitarian relief supply chain performance in particular is presented. Previously conducted researches from the year 2000 until the present time have been reviewed. The works were categorized according to writers, publication year, publishing journal, technique utilized and objective intended. Then an analysis was made on humanitarian relief supply chain literature with respect to the publishing journals and the research technique applied. The result shows that humanitarian relief supply chain evaluation is almost an untouched area which needs further study. Recent supply chain management techniques can be applied for the improved performance of these supply chains. Based on this result, Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR), Fuzzy Logic System, and Artificial Neural Networks are found to be the areas which need further study.</p>

Abstract:
PurposeThe purpose of this study is to examine how multi-tier suppliers respond to the institutional pressures for the implementation of sustainable supply management (SSM) practices in supply chains, and what institutional logics allow them to do so.Design/methodology/approachThis study employs a qualitative research design, drawing on data from semi-structured interviews with 46 owners and managers of multi-tier suppliers and 18 key informants of diverse stakeholders. Following an abductive approach, institutional theory conceptually guides the analytical iteration processes between theory and interview data.FindingsThe findings demonstrate two kinds of thematic responses to institutional pressures – coupling (good side) and decoupling (dark side) of the supply chain – used by the factory management of multi-tier suppliers. This paper also identifies multiple institutional logics – market-led logic, values-led logic and holistic sustainability logic – that are perceived to conflict (trade-offs) and complement (synergies) the SSM implementation.Research limitations/implicationsBy investigating the perspectives of the factory management of upstream apparel suppliers, this study enhances the understanding of the connection between (de)coupling responses and institutional logics inside the multi-tier supplier firms. Further research would be required to include more downstream tiers including the ultimate users.Practical implicationsThe findings may be of particular attention to brand-owning apparel retailers, industry leaders and policymakers who are seeking to understand multi-tier suppliers' challenges, conflicts and (de)coupling responses, and become aware of how they can be dealt with.Originality/valueThis study contributes to and expands the embryonic research stream of sustainable multi-tier supply chain management by connecting it to the wider application of institutional theory.

Abstract:
Dairy and dairy processing industries are included in the group of food products and high-risk industries. Decision making in relation to risk management in dairy industry supply chain is significant. This study aimed at designing a Intelligent decision support system (DSS) for risk assessment of dairy agroindustry supply chain and the estimation of dairy price in the risk-based farmer level. The risk assessment is analyzed by fuzzy logic approach which is Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) and Fuzzy Assosiative Memories (FAMs). The basic knowledge of this system is obtained through the preparation of rule base of risk assessment and the relation of production cost and risks at the farm based on the expert arguments variables. There are six outputs yielded from RSDA, that is risk assessment in accordance with priority issue, risk assessment for delivery activity, risk source exploration, risk performance, risk management partially and the estimation of production cost and price with risks. The system provides several alternatives which will help decision making in preparing risk management in dairy agroindustry supply chain. Moreover, this system also provides several scenarios of dairy price estimation at the level of farmer who includes risk factor in the farmer. By this system, it is expected that the opportunity of risk and risk impact of dairy agroindustry supply chain can be minimized.

Eco Design integrates environmental thinking into product design and packaging including in its production, consumption and disposal of the product life cycle in the supply chain. In today’s scenario eco design is very important for saving our environment. This papers aims to investigate the technology, organization and environment factors of the eco design that influence the adoption of Green Supply Chain Management using Fuzzy Quality Function Deployment (FQFD). Quality function deployment (QFD) is a planning and problem-solving methodology used to translate customer requirements (CRs) into technical requirements (TRs) in the Course of new product development (NPD). In the proposed model, fifteen fundamental requirements of customers are identified and eight main factors of eco design are derived to satisfy the overall requirements as detailed. The importance of the customer requirements and relationship strength were identified as linguistic data. We have collected data for the criteria from the decision makers of the automotive industry. Under different situation the values of subjective data are often inaccurate so we have applied Fuzzy Quantitative Approach to overcome this deficiency of high subjectivity and low reliability. This study shows the fuzzy logic using Quality Function Deployment for easy decision making. So this proposed method shows the final ranking of the important eco design factors that influences the adoption of Green Supply Chain Management in the automotive industry. The final result of paper gives Stakeholder Cooperation is the most important factors of eco design.

Abstract:
Many organizations must adjust their supply chains and business environments to remain competitive and retain market share. However, despite the benefits of such developments for organizations, they can lead to supply chain disruptions in many cases. An essential aspect of modern organizations is closed-loop supply chain management, which reduces risk by coordinating processes. This paper presents a mathematical model of a closed-loop green supply chain under uncertain conditions. A detailed description of the model and current assumptions for a specific industry are provided. Consequently, the model is developed with several relevant objectives for the design of the network. Our proposed model has the following characteristics: being multiobjective, multiproduct, and multiperiodic. Our analysis indicates that the applied model can be used both to increase profitability and to reduce environmental damage. The problem was made more uncertain using fuzzy logic. Torabi and Hassini (TH) method is combined with Jiménez’s proposed method to solve the problem.

Abstract:
On the backdrop of lower transportation cost, outsourcing paved the way for borderless production activities and ushered in the era of Supply Chain Management (SCM). For many organizations, achieving the goals of their Supply Chain (SC) is constantly threatened by increased competition and disruption. In this study, the aim is to identify, and rank, SC threats in a developing country using Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) with Fuzzy Logic (FL). FMEA parameters were derived for 44 supply chain threats (SCT1 – SCT44) and their Risk Priority Number (RPN) determined. Subsequently, the Mamdani Fuzzy Inference system was utilized to arrive at a Fuzzy-RPN with 125 rules using severity as a determining factor. The rules were ranked to prioritize SC threats. From the conventional FMEA, demand variation (SCT42) and long-distance sourcing (SCT27) had the highest and lowest RPN, respectively. After fuzzification and defuzzification, Fuzzy-RPN identified raw material delay (SCT1), government policy (SCT11), poor transport infrastructure (SCT18) and political instability (SCT19) as threats with the highest Fuzzy-RPN (210) and product recalls (SCT28) with the lowest Fuzzy-RPN (99). Based on these results, it is concluded that a Fuzzy-FMEA approach can identify and rank SC threats with the use of an RPN devoid of sentiments and inaccuracies.

Abstract:
There are many inevitable disruptive events, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, natural disasters and geopolitical conflicts, during the operation of the container port supply chain (CPSC). These events bring ship delays, port congestion and turnover inefficiency. In order to enhance the resilience of the CPSC, a modified two-stage CPSC system containing a container pretreatment system (CPS) and a container handling system (CHS) is built. A two-dimensional resilience index is designed to measure its affordability and recovery. An adaptive fuzzy double-feedback adjustment (AFDA) strategy is proposed to mitigate the disruptive effects and regulate its dynamicity. The AFDA strategy consists of the first-level fuzzy logic control system and the second-level adaptive fuzzy adjustment system. Simulations show the AFDA strategy outperforms the original system, PID, and two pipelines for improved dynamic response and augmented resilience. This study effectively supports the operations manager in determining the proper control policies and resilience management with respect to indeterminate container waiting delay and allocation delay due to disruptive effects.

Abstract:
Minimizing supplier base allows better supplier relationship management, but any supplier failure will interrupt the supplies chain. Earth quake in Fukushima, Japan and flood in Bangkok, Thailand, caused supply chain breakdown and affect the global production. Decision tree method is recommended to determine optimal number of supplier in supplier base with the risk of supplier failure. This paper presented an approach to integrate fuzzy logic in decision tree approach by rating the supplier risk in linguistic terms for imperfect environment. Numerical example and sensitivity are carried out and presented, and optimal supplier base was identified.

Abstract:
Supplier selection is one of the important processes in supply chain management. Regarding the emergence of sustainability issues in recent decades, companies have incorporated these issues in conventional supplier selection in order to meet governmental legislations and market demands. These issues have been noticed by various researchers. However, there are limited research activities which considered all aspects of sustainability for supplier selection problem as an integrated assessment. In this paper, an integrated approach of Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process and fuzzy logic has been proposed in order to solve sustainable supplier selection problem. Fuzzy analytical hierarchy process has been used to calculate the weight of sustainable criteria and sub criteria. Then, fuzzy logic was utilized in order to assess the suppliers based on the weights acquired by Fuzzy analytical hierarchy process. Finally, a case study of petroleum industry has been carried out in order to show the validity of proposed approach.

Abstract:
Petronika.

Abstract:
Prominent influence of transportation costs on supply chain overall profit indicates the importance and emer-gence of transportation optimization models. Regarding this issue and in view of realistic situation consisting of non-de-terministic information, in this research optimizing inbound and outbound transportation costs of a multi echelon supply chain has been considered. To deal with uncertain time deliveries and pricing strategies adopted by different members of supply chain, in conjunction with unpredictable demand rate, fuzzy logic and specifically Trapezoidal Fuzzy Numbers (TrFNs) are included. After designing a fuzzy binary multi objective model based upon structural assumptions, the solving approach is proposed and the model is employed on Iranian steel supply network to illustrate the potential and advantages of our scheduled model. The bi-objective mixed integer fuzzy programming model presents and encompasses many realis-tic circumstances making the model applicable in network transportation cases.

Abstract:
The number of research papers interested in studying the social dimension of supply chain sustainability and resilience is increasing in the literature. However, the social dimension is complex, with several uncertainty variables that cannot be expressed with a traditional Boolean logic of totally true or false. To cope with uncertainty, Fuzzy Logic allows the development of models to obtain crisp values from the concept of fuzzy linguistic variables. Using the Structural Equation Model by Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) and Evolutionary Fuzzy Knowledge, this research aims to analyze the predictive power of social sustainability characteristics on supply chain resilience performance in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic with representative cases from Mexico and Chile. We validate our approach using the Chile database for training our model and the Mexico database for testing. The fuzzy knowledge database has a predictive power of more than 80%, using social sustainability features as inputs regarding supply chain resilience in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic disruption. To our knowledge, no works in the literature use fuzzy evolutionary knowledge to study social sustainability in correlation with resilience. Moreover, our proposed approach is the only one that does not require a priori expert knowledge or a systematic mathematical setup.

The context of the paper is to examine S-D logic in global supply chains. Design/Methodology:The paper is a theory driven conceptual piece.Findings:Globalization emphasizes complex interconnected systems, while S-D logic emphasizes the importance of leveraging operant resources in order to achieve sustainable competitive advantage. Both S-D logic and globalization apply in the supply chain context. This paper focuses on the global supply chain and the importance of leveraging service based operant resources. Because the focus of management has shifted from a domestic to a more complex, three-dimensional network, it is critical for practitioners and researchers to understand how to optimize service based operant resources in the global marketplace.Practical Implications:Because the focus of management has shifted from a domestic to a more complex, three-dimensional global network, it is critical for practitioners and researchers to understand how to optimize service based operant resources in the global marketplace. We suggest that in this dynamic marketplace, both globalization and S-D logic are required to fully explain supply chain performance. Specifically, we suggest that managers develop a global ‘supply-chain management’ perspective allowing for the key operant resource – human capital – to create synergistic partner relationships and customer experiences resulting in superior performance.Originality/Value:This is one of the first (if not the first) paper that examines S-D logic in a global context. Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to propose an improved hesitation fuzzy multi-attribute decision-making method to realize green supply chain member selection under green innovation vision. The method uses hesitation fuzzy sets to express decision information of decision makers, takes green innovation capability as the evaluation perspective, and selects green innovation input, synergy of subjects in green supply chain, green innovation output capability, institutional innovation capability of enterprises in green supply chain, and green innovation sustainability as the indexes to evaluate the green innovation capability of enterprises. The multi-attribute decision method proposed in this paper takes into account the shortcomings of the original hesitant fuzzy multi-attribute decision method considering attribute weight optimization in the determination of attribute weights and scheme ranking, then proposes a three-point estimation method for scheme ranking and optimizes the attribute weights by quantifying the balance coefficients of the original decision method. Finally, an example is used to verify the rationality and effectiveness of the proposed method, and a comparison with the original method is made to highlight the advantages of this paper’s method. This paper provides a certain theoretical basis for the selection of members in green supply chains, which helps the selection of members in green supply chains and provides some insight for similar hesitant fuzzy multi-attribute decision-making problems in other fields. In future research, the method proposed in this paper can be considered to combine with probabilistic hesitant fuzzy sets and some other fuzzy sets for method extensions to solve multi-attribute decision-making problems.
