Abstract:
Automotive designers' long-term ambition of combining high performance and excellent liquid and gas fuel economy in the same automotive vehicle, seems to be on the verge of fruition by Cracow University of Technology's Automotive Mechatronics Research-and-Development (R&D) Team with their revolutionary concept of new all-round energy efficient tri-mode supercars (advanced ultralight hybrids). This all-round, energy efficient, tri-mode supercar concept had been conceived shortly before October 1993 when the US President Bill Clinton's Clean Car Initiative launched a commitment by America's Big Three automotive manufacturers in Detroit that are to be assisted by America's national weapons laboratories in a 10-year program to develop environmentally-friendly supercars. Reporting this, the New York Times named President Clinton's teenage dream car as a 1952 Buick "Kaiser Henry J" gas guzzler. The development of the tri-mode supercars at Cracow University of Technology began in the early 1990s on a very much restricted budget, compared with similar projects in other countries, with emphasis on lengthening the operating distance and enhancing the image of them. Longer running distance will be achieved by designing an energy-saving full-time Four-Wheel Driveable (4WD) propulsion, Four-Wheel Brakeable (4WB) dispulsion, Four-Wheel Absorbable (4WA) suspension, Four-Wheel Steerable (4WS) conversion and ultralight chassis and body with an aerodynamic drag of around 0.2, as well as the use of high-performance unconventional combustion engines, modern electronically-controlled electromechanical/ mechanoelectrical Steer-, Autodrive- and Autoabsorbable Wheels ( SA 2 W ) with the AC-AC, AC-DC-AC and/or DC-AC/AC-DC macroelectronic converter commutator (macrocommutator) wheel-hub motors/generators and high-density mechanical energy-storing high-speed Autodrive- and Autoabsorbable Flywheel ( A 2 F ) with the brushless AC-AC, AC-DC-AC and/or DC-AC/AC-DC macrocommutator twin composite-flywheel-hub motors/generators and chemical energy-storing advanced chemoelectrical storage battery. Called the Poly-Supercar (or Polytechnic all-round energy efficient tri-mode supercar), i.e. the advanced ultralight hybrid, it will be the product of four year's R&D to design an experimental four-seat supercar of advanced specification, performance and economy, and with functions which include lane keeping, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, obstacle detection, collision avoidance, blind spot detection, and day/night vision enhancement.

Abstract:
Background:Despite the thermal challenge of demanding workloads performed in high cabin temperatures while wearing heavy heat-retardant clothing, information on physiological responses to racing V8 Supercars in hot conditions is not readily available.Purpose:To describe the thermal, cardiovascular, and perceptual strain on V8 Supercar drivers competing in hot conditions. Methods:Thermal strain was indicated by body-core temperature using an ingested thermosensitive pill. Cardiovascular strain was assessed from heart rate, hydration status, and sweat rate. Perceptual strain was estimated from self-rated thermal sensation, thermal discomfort (modified Gagge scales), perceived exertion (Borg scale), and perceptual strain index. Results:Prerace body-core temperatures were (mean ± SD) 37.7°C ± 0.4°C (range 37.0°C to 38.2°C), rising to 39.0°C ± 0.4°C (range 38.4°C to 39.7°C) postrace. Driver heart rates were >160 and >170 beats/min for 85.3% and 46.7% of racing, respectively. Sweat rates were 1.06 ± 0.12 L/h or 13.4 ± 1.2 mL · kg−1 · h−1, and postrace dehydration was 0.6% ± 0.6% of prerace body mass. Drivers rated thermal sensation as hot (10.3 ± 0.9), thermal discomfort as uncomfortable (3.1 ± 1.0), and perceived exertion as very hard to very, very hard (8.7 ± 1.7) after the races. Overall physiological and perceptual strain were 7.4 ± 1.0 and 7.1 ± 1.2, respectively. Conclusions:Despite the use of cooling, V8 Supercar drivers endure thermal, cardiovascular, and perceptual strain during brief driving bouts in hot conditions.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the influence that adopting open innovation (OI) has on the innovativeness and performance of specialized small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). This paper also examines the adoption of OI within a firm’s practices and models, and within the three dimensions of firm sustainability. Design/methodology/approach Survey data from 48 specialized SMEs manufacturing supercars were analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling. SmartPLS software was used to conduct a path analysis and test the proposed framework. Findings The findings suggest that high adoption of OI models tends to increase firm innovativeness. Similarly, the adoption of OI practices has a positive effect on innovativeness but to a lesser extent than OI models. The moderation results of innovativeness further show that OI models and practices can benefit the performance of SMEs. Specifically, two dimensions of performance – environmental and social performance – were found to be greatly influenced by OI. Research limitations/implications Due to parsimony in the investigated model, this study only focuses on OI adoption as practices and models without considering its drivers or other contingency factors. Practical implications This paper could help practitioners in SMEs better understand the benefits of adopting OI to be more innovative but also more sustainable. Originality/value This study contributes to the literature on the role of OI practices and models regarding the dimensions of firm sustainability performance by being the first paper to investigate this relationship in the context of small and medium manufacturers of supercars.

Abstract:
Review on using DLC in making tyres. DLC films have been used as protective coatings for various applications. We can use DLC to improve the tyre’s life especially for sports cars and supercars like Lamborghini and Bugatti Chiron. And also in military vehicles for making the tyres bulletproof. DLC is a class of amorphous carbon material that displays some of the typical properties of diamond. DLC is usually applied as coatings to other materials that could benefit from some of those properties but we can use DLC in the synthesis of tyre’s rubber (for making threads) and ply thus improving the overall quality of the tyres.

Concepts of the electronically-controlled electromechanical/mechanoelectrical Steer-, Autodrive- and Autoabsorbable Wheels (SA2W) with their brushless Alternating Current-to-Alternating Current (AC-AC), Alternating Current-to-Direct Current-Alternating Current (AC-DC-AC) and/or Direct Current-to-Alternating Current (DC-AC)/Alternating Current-to-Direct Current (AC-DC) macroelectronic converter commutator (macro-commutator) wheel-hub motors/generators with the Application Specific Integrated Matrixer (ASIM) macroelectronic converter commutators (ASIM macrocommutators) and Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) microelectronic Neuro-Fuzzy (NF) computer (processor) controllers (ASIC NF microcontrollers) for environmentally-friendly tri-mode supercars (advanced ultralight hybrids) have been conceived by the first author and designed by both authors with the Cracow University of Technology’s Automotive Mechatronics Research and Development (R&D) Team. These electromechanical/mechanoelectrical wheel-hub motors/generators, respectively, for instance, can be composed of the outer rotor with the Interior Permanent Magnet (IPM) poles and the inner stator that has the three-phase armature winding. The macroelectronic converter commutator establishes the AC-AC cycloconverter, AC-DC rectifier-DC-AC inverter and/or DC-AC inverter/AC-DC rectifier ASIM macrocommutator. The microelectronic NF computer (processor) controller establishes the ASIC microcomputer-based NF microcontroller. By adopting continuous semiconductor bipolar electrical valves in the high-power ASIM, it has been able to increase the commutation (switching) frequency and reduce harmonic losses of the electromechanical/mechanoelectrical wheel-hub motors/generators, respectively.

Abstract:
Radio-labelled free radicals were formed by the addition of muonium-a radioactive hydrogen atom with a positive muon as its nucleus-to benzaldehyde, as adsorbed in cation-exchanged zeolite X. PhCHOMu• radicals were the major species formed and the activation parameters associated with their reorientational motion were measured using longitudinal-field muon spin relaxation (LF-MuSRx). Two distinct adsorbed fractions were detected in each of the samples containing Li+, Na+, K+, Ca2+, Sr2+ and Ba2+ cations, believed to be from (1) an effectively bulk benzaldehyde component with an almost common activation energy for molecular reorientation of ca 3kJ/mol, and (2) benzaldehyde adsorbed inside the zeolite supercages. MgX showed only the supercage fraction clearly.

Abstract:
Chemical composition and technology of experimental Ni based binder-tungsten carbide particles composite have been worked out to increase corrosion resistance of conventional supercoarse WC-Co type sintered carbides. All the sintered WC cermets, both with Co and Ni-based binding phase have been manufactured using identical supercoarse WC powder. Grain size evaluation was performed using light microscope images and grain chord length measurements, samples of commercial WC-Co coarse and supercoarse grades being included into analysis for comparison purposes. The obtained statistical and geometrical distributions of the chord length revealed certain differences. The performed statistical analysis allowed to state that the investigated experimental grades of Ni-based sintered WC carbides are materials of microstructure significantly more coarse than the reference coarse commercial grade (i.e. they can be classified into supercoarse group of sintered carbides).

Abstract:
A stepwise synthesis method was used to encapsulate tetrachloro-tetramethyl porphyrin in NaCoX molecular sieve supercages. Characterization of the encapsulated porphyrin was carried out by UV-vis and IR Spectroscopy, DTA, SEM and EPR. A comparison was made of the activities of tetrachloro-tetramethyl porphyrin, its Co ( II ) complex, NaCoX molecular sieve and the encapsulated porphyrin as catalysts in the oxidation reactions of styrene and p-cresol. The stability and catalytic capability of the metalloporphyrin were increased after combination of the porphyrin with the molecular sieve. In addition, this new type of catalyst, tetrachloro-tetramethyl porphyrin encapsulated in NaCoX molecular sieve supercages, not only possesses the advantages of both the porphyrin and the molecular sieve, but also makes up for their respective deficiencies. In this study, another method called sealing–melting was also used to encapsulate the Zn ( II ) complex of meso-tetraphenyl-tetrabenzoporphyrin into NaY molecular sieve supercages. The catalytic capabilities of the free Zn ( II ) complex of meso-tetraphenyl-tetrabenzoporphyrin, the Zn ( II ) complex encapsulated in NaY molecular sieve supercages and the NaY molecular sieve itself in the oxidation of styrene by hydrogen peroxide were also studied. The experimental results again confirmed that both the stability and catalytic capability of the metalloporphyrin encapsulated in molecular sieve supercages are increased.

Abstract:
Aims and methodThis paper investigates the relationship between cluster (Mental Health Clustering Tool, MHCT) and diagnosis in an in-patient population. We analysed the diagnostic make-up of each cluster and the clinical utility of the diagnostic advice in the Department of Health's Mental Health Clustering Booklet. In-patients discharged from working-age adult and older people's services of a National Health Service trust over 1 year were included. Cluster on admission was compared with primary diagnosis on discharge.ResultsOrganic, schizophreniform, anxiety disorder and personality disorders aligned to one superclass cluster. Alcohol and substance misuse, and mood disorders distributed evenly across psychosis and non-psychosis superclass clusters. Two-thirds of diagnoses fell within the MHCT ‘likely’ group and a tenth into the ‘unlikely’ group.Clinical implicationsCluster and diagnosis are best viewed as complimentary systems to describe an individual's needs. Improvements are suggested to the MHCT diagnostic advice in in-patient settings. Substance misuse and affective disorders have a more complex distribution between superclass clusters than all other broad diagnostic groups.

Abstract:
In this paper we consider a superclass of automaton grammars that can be represented in terms of paths on graphs. With this approach, we assume that vertices of graph are labeled by symbols of finite alphabet A . We will call such grammars graph-generated grammars or G-grammars. In contrast to the graph grammars that are used to describe graph structure transformations, G-grammars using a graphs as a means of representing formal languages. We will give an algorithm for constructing G-grammar which generate the language recognized by deterministic finite automaton. Moreover, we will show that the class of languages generated by G-grammars is a proper superset of regular languages.
