Abstract:
In March 1982, the United Nations Commission on Human Rights initiated the appointment of a Special Rapporteur on Summary or Arbitrary Executions. The Special Rapporteur on Summary or Arbitrary Executions has done far more than merely study that grave human rights problem; he has received complaints about impending and past executions, issued appeals to governments about threatened executions and the need to investigate past killings, and reported publicly on much of his activity. The Commission on Human Rights not only has renewed the Special Rapporteur on Summary or Arbitrary Executions in its subsequent annual sessions, but has followed this precedent by appointing in 1985 a similar Special Rapporteur on Torture and in 1986 a Special Rapporteur on Intolerance and Discrimination Based on Religion or Belief.

This article has two related aims. First, it examines the most up-to-date studies relative to Italian military justice during the First World War, and seeks to set them in the context of the historical debate since the late 1960s. Secondly, and more specifically, it focuses on recently uncovered evidence regarding staggeringly high numbers of previously unknown summary executions in the Italian army. It explores the significance of these findings for understanding the character of the Italian military justice system as well as that of the war conducted by Italy's ruling élites between 1915 and 1918.

Abstract:
The article elucidates some of the issues surrounding the payment of succumbence fees as a result of enforcements of judgments and their challenges, especially when the enforcements are brought against the public treasury. Initially, he presents how these issues were dealt with in executions of individual judgments against private parties governed by the CPC/1973 and how they are now dealt with in executions of individual judgments against private parties governed by the CPC/2015. It then presents how these issues are dealt with in the enforcement of individual judgments against the public treasury. It then presents how these issues are dealt with in individual enforcement of collective judgments against the public treasury. It concludes that Precedent No. 345 of the STJ is unlawful and inconsistent with other precedents of the STJ itself, with precedents of the STF and with the legal order as a whole. It should therefore be revoked or revised.

Abstract Summary We introduce Tibanna, an open-source software tool for automated execution of bioinformatics pipelines on Amazon Web Services (AWS). Tibanna accepts reproducible and portable pipeline standards including Common Workflow Language (CWL), Workflow Description Language (WDL) and Docker. It adopts a strategy of isolation and optimization of individual executions, combined with a serverless scheduling approach. Pipelines are executed and monitored using local commands or the Python Application Programming Interface (API) and cloud configuration is automatically handled. Tibanna is well suited for projects with a range of computational requirements, including those with large and widely fluctuating loads. Notably, it has been used to process terabytes of data for the 4D Nucleome (4DN) Network. Availability and implementation Source code is available on GitHub at https://github.com/4dn-dcic/tibanna. In the Spring 2014, while in Paris, I happened to enter an exhibition about summary executions of French soldiers during World War I. The soldiers had mainly been executed for mutiny, although in fact they had rarely contravened orders or rebelled. Rather, these soldiers were deeply traumatised young conscripts, operating in unbearable conditions, and often, had simply protested against the conditions, fought in a way that minimised risks to their personal safety, or surrendered to the Germany enemy (so-called Boches in France at the time).

The Hungarian Republic, which emerged from of the ashes of Austria-Hungary, experienced two revolutions between October 1918 and April 1919. However, neither the democratic regime nor the more radical Soviet Republic born in these revolutions was able to solve the country's most pressing economic and social problems. The collapse of the Soviet Republic at the end of July 1919, in turn, was followed by a rapid rise in extra-legal violence. Freikorps units (szabadcsapatok) and civic guards (polgárőrségek), aided by the members of the local police, set up kangaroo courts, organized summary executions, and ignited pogroms in the central and western parts of the country.

Abstract:
Summary Introduction: The study aim was to construct a technical and tactical analysis of women’s volleyball based on notational analysis in top-level and junior women’s European volleyball matches, to compare these two levels, and to clarify the differences between the winners and losers of a set. Material and Methods: Four matches from the 2010 FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Championships and 2010 CEV Junior Women’s European Championship 2010 were analyzed using Data Volley software. The number and performance level of different skills were recorded in total and were grouped according to the role of the players. Methods of scoring and attacking zones were also analyzed. Results: There were only slight differences between the two levels in terms of success in different skills. When the skill executions were compared between the winning and losing teams of a set within the levels, less successful skill executions and more errors in different skills were found for the losing teams. Conclusions: The results seem to indicate that there are only minor differences between adult and junior women’s volleyball at the highest level. Attacking seems to be the most important skill concerning winning in both levels. The efficiency of attacking seems to depend upon the quality and versatility of the setting and also from the physical abilities of the players.

Abstract:
Summary The huge and dynamic amount of bioinformatic resources (e.g., data and tools) available nowadays in Internet represents a big challenge for biologists -for what concerns their management and visualization- and for bioinformaticians -for what concerns the possibility of rapidly creating and executing in-silico experiments involving resources and activities spread over the WWW hyperspace. Any framework aiming at integrating such resources as in a physical laboratory has imperatively to tackle -and possibly to handle in a transparent and uniform way- aspects concerning physical distribution, semantic heterogeneity, co-existence of different computational paradigms and, as a consequence, of different invocation interfaces (i.e., OGSA for Grid nodes, SOAP for Web Services, Java RMI for Java objects, etc.). The framework UBioLab has been just designed and developed as a prototype following the above objective. Several architectural features -as those ones of being fully Web-based and of combining domain ontologies, Semantic Web and workflow techniques- give evidence of an effort in such a direction. The integration of a semantic knowledge management system for distributed (bioinformatic) resources, a semantic-driven graphic environment for defining and monitoring ubiquitous workflows and an intelligent agent-based technology for their distributed execution allows UBioLab to be a semantic guide for bioinformaticians and biologists providing (i) a flexible environment for visualizing, organizing and inferring any (semantics and computational) “type” of domain knowledge (e.g., resources and activities, expressed in a declarative form), (ii) a powerful engine for defining and storing semantic-driven ubiquitous in-silico experiments on the domain hyperspace, as well as (iii) a transparent, automatic and distributed environment for correct experiment executions.

Abstract:
Beginning in January of 1946, trains filled with Sudeten Germans—forty wagons, thirty passengers per wagon—left Czechoslovakia daily for the American Zone of occupied Germany. By the end of 1946, the Czechoslovak government completed the “organized transfer” of almost 2 million Germans, and it did so in a manner that in many respects fulfilled the mandate of the Potsdam agreement that the resettlement be “orderly and humane.” But a focus on these regularized trainloads of human cargo obscures the extent of the humanitarian disaster facing Germans during the summer months of 1945, immediately after the Nazi capitulation. By the end of 1945, Czech soldiers, security forces, and local militias had already expelled over 700,000 Sudeten Germans to occupied Germany and Austria. As many as 30,000 Germans died on forced marches, in disease-filled concentration camps, in summary executions, and massacres.

The review discusses N. Perlina’s monograph about the problem of ekphrasis in Dostoevsky’s ‘most mysterious’ novel The Idiot [Idiot] (1868) and highlights advantages and disadvantages of her study. The review contains a summary of key Russian bibliography about ekphrasis in literature (L. Geller, R. Poddubtsev, E. Novikova, O. Dzhumaylo, etc.). It is noted that, despite studying ekphrasis, many philologists may not actually use the term in their research. The review touches on Perlina’s polemic with another renowned scholar of the novel, T. Kasatkina. Perlina’s monograph is structured into six discernable parts: Excursus into the Theory of Ekphrasis, Meetings with People and Portraits, Pictures of Executions and Conversations about Faith, Cervantes – Dostoevsky, Myshkin – Don Quixote, The Triangle Nastasya Filippovna – Myshkin – Aglaya: Pictures of Struggling Hearts, and Implied Ekphrasis Stories in the Novel’s Fourth Part. A vague authorial position is deemed the biggest downside of Perlina’s book.

Abstract:
Widespread forced disappearances, summary executions, and torture practiced by the military regimes in Argentina and Chile came to define human rights abuse during the 1970s and 1980s. Opposition to these practices and their parent regimes helped to shape the contemporary human rights movement and, by extension, human rights norms and institutions. Thomas C. Wright's State Terrorism in Latin America contends that the movement's struggle with the Argentine and Chilean dictatorships resulted in an era of greater deterrence and enforcement power for human rights institutions. Sonia Cardenas' Conflict and Compliance, however, maintains that despite the advance in norms and the creation of supranational structures to promote accountability for human rights abuse, the mechanisms for changing state practice have remained remarkably constant throughout the past three decades. Both in Latin America and elsewhere, domestic forces and cost-benefit analysis—at times aided by international pressure—continue to be the principal determinants of state behavior in the field of human rights.

AbstractThis year in review will first discuss the major developments that contributed towards the formation or enforcement of international humanitarian law. Despite the many positive developments in the elucidation of international humanitarian law, 2009 witnessed the continuation of violent armed conflict around the world, not least in Sri Lanka where the long standing armed conflict came to a bloody conclusion amidst allegations of summary executions and other serious violations of international humanitarian law. Two other conflicts involving Israel/Gaza and Russia/Georgia which took place in 2008 and early 2009, resulted in the release of two influential international investigative reports, each of which alleged serious violations of international humanitarian law and called for the enforcement of criminal accountability. The election of Barack Obama marked a significant shift in the attitude of the United States to terrorism and detention with the new President immediately announcing on taking office, the closure of Guantánamo Bay.

Abstract:
UN human rights mechanisms continue to proliferate, producing numerous decisions and voluminous reports. This article reviews the ways in which such mechanisms apply international humanitarian law, including the law of Geneva and the law of The Hague. In doing so, it focuses mainly on the practice of the rapporteurs appointed by the UN Commission on Human Rights to investigate the human rights situations in specific countries and on that of the thematic rapporteurs and working groups which the Commission has entrusted with monitoring specific types of serious human rights violations wherever they occur, in particular the Special Rapporteur on Extrajudicial, Summary or Arbitrary Executions and the Representative of the Secretary-General on Internally Displaced Persons, whose mandates most often lead them to examine abuses occurring in the context of armed conflicts. Reference is also made to two innovative mechanisms which functioned in El Salvador: the first UN-sponsored “truth commission” and the first human rights monitoring body established as part of a comprehensive mechanism for monitoring compliance with a UN-sponsored peace agreement. Certain observations made by treaty monitoring bodies are also mentioned.

Abstract:
The consolidation of the international regime of absolute prohibitions (belonging to the domain of jus cogens) of torture, summary and extra-legal executions, and enforced disappearances of persons has counted on the contribution of the case-law of contemporary international tribunals, such as, notably, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACtHR). The jurisprudential construction of the IACtHR to this effect has taken place mainly in the period 1999–2004. The IACtHR began by addressing issues pertaining to its competence ratione temporis, duly distinguishing their bearing on responsibility and jurisdiction. The IACtHR singled out the aggravating circumstances surrounding enforced disappearances of persons, bringing about the enlargement of the notion of victim (comprising the next of kin). The IACtHR duly acknowledged and asserted the absolute prohibitions of jus cogens in the conformation of an international legal regime against grave violations of human rights and international humanitarian law (such as enforced disappearances of persons). The IACtHR became the first contemporary international tribunal, in this connection, to sustain that the enlarged material content of jus cogens encompasses nowadays the victims’ right of access to justice lato sensu, properly understood as the imperative of the realisation of objective or material justice.

Abstract:
Summary Proving properties of distributed algorithms is still a highly challenging problem and various approaches that have been proposed to tackle it [1] can be roughly divided into state-based and event-based proofs. Informally speaking, state-based approaches define the behavior of a distributed algorithm as a set of sequences of memory states during its executions, while event-based approaches treat the behaviors by means of events which are produced by the executions of an algorithm. Of course, combined approaches are also possible. Analysis of the literature [1], [7], [12], [9], [13], [14], [15] shows that state-based approaches are more widely used than event-based approaches for proving properties of algorithms, and the difficulties in the event-based approach are often emphasized. We believe, however, that there is a certain naturalness and intuitive content in event-based proofs of correctness of distributed algorithms that makes this approach worthwhile. Besides, state-based proofs of correctness of distributed algorithms are usually applicable only to discrete-time models of distributed systems and cannot be easily adapted to the continuous time case which is important in the domain of cyber-physical systems. On the other hand, event-based proofs can be readily applied to continuous-time / hybrid models of distributed systems. In the paper [2] we presented a compositional approach to reasoning about behavior of distributed systems in terms of events. Compositionality here means (informally) that semantics and properties of a program is determined by semantics of processes and process communication mechanisms. We demonstrated the proposed approach on a proof of the mutual exclusion property of the Peterson’s algorithm [11]. We have also demonstrated an application of this approach for proving the mutual exclusion property in the setting of continuous-time models of cyber-physical systems in [8]. Using Mizar [3], in this paper we give a formal proof of the mutual exclusion property of the Peterson’s algorithm in Mizar on the basis of the event-based approach proposed in [2]. Firstly, we define an event-based model of a shared-memory distributed system as a multi-sorted algebraic structure in which sorts are events, processes, locations (i.e. addresses in the shared memory), traces (of the system). The operations of this structure include a binary precedence relation ⩽ on the set of events which turns it into a linear preorder (events are considered simultaneous, if e1 ⩽ e2 and e2 ⩽ e1), special predicates which check if an event occurs in a given process or trace, predicates which check if an event causes the system to read from or write to a given memory location, and a special partial function “val of” on events which gives the value associated with a memory read or write event (i.e. a value which is written or is read in this event) [2]. Then we define several natural consistency requirements (axioms) for this structure which must hold in every distributed system, e.g. each event occurs in some process, etc. (details are given in [2]). After this we formulate and prove the main theorem about the mutual exclusion property of the Peterson’s algorithm in an arbitrary consistent algebraic structure of events. Informally, the main theorem states that if a system consists of two processes, and in some trace there occur two events e1 and e2 in different processes and each of these events is preceded by a series of three special events (in the same process) guaranteed by execution of the Peterson’s algorithm (setting the flag of the current process, writing the identifier of the opposite process to the “turn” shared variable, and reading zero from the flag of the opposite process or reading the identifier of the current process from the “turn” variable), and moreover, if neither process writes to the flag of the opposite process or writes its own identifier to the “turn” variable, then either the events e1 and e2 coincide, or they are not simultaneous (mutual exclusion property).

Abstract:
The period after June 2014 has seen forces from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), an armed group, spread quickly across Iraq. This process has led to massive displacements in which affected over two million people. Indeed, the primary targets of ISIL have been religious and ethnic minorities. Some of these groups include Yazidis, Shabak, Kaka’i, and Christians. Also, ISIL has abducted or injured many people, with thousands also killed. Examples of adverse actions that the armed group has committed include severe human rights abuses such as the looting of property, the abduction of children, the destruction of places of worship, sexual enslavement, rape, forced conversion, and summary executions. Whereas the period before the insurgency group’s entry still witnessed minorities exist as a vulnerable group, the violence led by ISIL has threatened to eliminate them permanently from regions such as the Nineveh Plains, have lived in these areas for several centuries. The main question purpose of this paper is to examine the future status of minorities in post-ISIL Iraq? ISIL. I will argue that although ISIL had been defeated in Iraq, their impact will be critical on Iraqi Minorities Even after the demise of ISIL. Currently, informal settlements, abandoned buildings, and camps in which the displaced persons live reflect deteriorating humanitarian conditions. With international agencies experiencing limited resources and also the government failing to offer an effective response, most of the international displaced people (IDPs)[1] do not have enough shelter, health care, water, food, and other essential items. Indeed, most vulnerable groups include children and women. At a time when the majority are contemplating emigration out of Iraq, their survival in the immediate and far future rests upon collaboration among four groups that include the international community, the Iraqi government, Kurdish authorities, and minorities themselves. Some of the specific areas that need to be addressed include the asylum dilemma, reconciliation and restoration, preventing future abuses, legislation, and humanitarian issues.

Summary Objectives: In this paper we study the impact of executing a medical image database query application on the grid. For lowering the total computation time, the image database is partitioned into subsets to be processed on different grid nodes. Methods: A theoretical model of the application complexity and estimates of the grid execution overhead are used to efficiently partition the database. Results: We show results demonstrating that smart partitioning of the database can lead to significant improvements in terms of total computation time. Conclusions: Grids are promising for content-based image retrieval in medical databases.

Abstract:
Performance management in the public sector, including local government, has become far more pervasive in recent decades. Often performance indicators are summarized into a single score to enhance understanding and ease dissemination. However, the summation of performance indicators caries a risk that the rating assigned may largely be an artefact of the summarization strategy rather than an accurate representation of municipal performance. We employ the recent evaluation of New South Wales’ municipal performance to demonstrate that the performance indicator compilation strategy is indeed a major determinant of the ratings assigned to local councils. Moreover, we illustrate how ratings may exert a constitutive effect on municipalities by altering organizational behavior. A number of policy lessons are drawn from our empirical analysis, including significant methodological considerations and the need for higher levels of transparency.

English Abstract: In recent (post-)conflict scenarios, the diversity and complexity of mass violence, including acts of enforced disappearance and extrajudicial or summary executions, have transformed how knowledge about such crimes is performed and produced socially. In inquiries into human rights violations, the search for, exhumation and identification of missing bodies often buried in mass graves have led distinct applications of forensic work to emerge. These have some differences from traditional crime scene investigation approaches. Novel interactions between forensic science practitioners and the communities where they operate have given place to unprecedented sociocultural, affective and scientific understandings of evidencing mass crimes. Drawing on different ethnographic experiences of unearthing human remains around the world, this collection considers how, in its judicial but also its extrajudicial application, forensic expertise has been transformed in connection to other epistemologies, collective and individual mourning, kinship, memory and a new politics and ethics of care in distinct state- and civil society-led pursuits to account for the dead and missing.

Abstract:
Testing is an important activity in software engineering, especially with the growing adoption of software systems in safety-critical domains. Testing research, however, is mostly focused on deter- mining which test inputs to use (e.g., proposing and evaluating test coverage criteria or automatic test generation tools). Re- gardless of the used coverage criterion, we need to know whether a given program executes correctly on a given input. Indeed, a test execution for which we cannot discriminate between success or failure serves little purpose. This corresponds to the so-called øracle problem", the problem of knowing whether a program be- haves correctly for a speci c input. Although the importance of the oracle problem is well understood, only a few alternatives exist to manually deriving test oracles. This makes automated test or- acle generation one of the main bottlenecks for achieving full test automation. Therefore, novel approaches and tools are needed to address this important problem.

Abstract:
Continuing Health Education (CHE) represents a dynamic and multifaceted process, where learning and teaching are harmoniously intertwined with the organizational routine. In summary, the primary objective of Continuing Education, which emerges as an intermittent practice, is to enable professionals from different areas to improve their knowledge, stay up to date and develop crucial skills for the benefit of their careers. This is an experience report regarding the implementation of a Continuing Health Education (CHE) extension project in a hospital located in southeast Goiás, with the participation and execution of intervention actions by 12 medical students from the Federal University of Catalão, developed from August 1, 2021, to July 31, 2022. During the execution of the project, results were obtained regarding the application of evidence-based behaviors, such as adherence to the use of scales and greater standardization of health actions in this institution. However, the high turnover of professionals in the project's sectors within this hospital generated difficulties in planning and executing actions, which did not allow for permanent longitudinal education. Nevertheless, the CHE action enabled a reflective analysis of professional experience, transforming practices to make them more strategic and grounded in shared care and community needs.

Abstract:
This article shows the negative impact of the development and vote of the budget by the provincial parliament on the socio-economic development of decentralized territorial entities by confirming that there is a gap between the budget forecasts of the province and that of planned execution. The procedure taken since 2006 by the national authorities, that of opting for retrocession instead of withholding tax, does not allow national revenues to return to the provinces as allegedly, because for the budgetary year of 2021 only 67619004585.00 FC out of 842889362525.00 FC that is 8% were mobilized outside the province in 2019. This article is particularly interested in the deputies, the heads of the provinces and the Decentralized Territorial Entities (DTE in acronym), it is also interested in the heads of the tax services responsible for revenue collection and the impact of the budget, the merits of its development and its vote by the provincial parliament. It first presents the summary of revenues and expenditures for the budgetary years 2019, 2020 and 2021. It proposes what the ministry responsible for executing expenditures should do after the budget forecasts, taking into account three fields of investigation: 1) contributory capacity 2) demography 3) surface area. The article also examines the relationships between the distribution estimate in expenditure execution and the variables of these three fields.

Abstract:
The objective of this concept paper is to enumerate the diverse strategies implemented by the fast-food industry on a global scale in light of the economic downturn. Assessments and adjustments are made to the various metrics for Sri Lanka, which is now grappling with a severe economic crisis and the highest inflation rate in its recorded history. Before now, no attempt had been made to develop a generic model that a firm might adopt to assure commercial sustainability during recessions. This study provides a model or scorecard that any company can implement. In conducting research on the topic, a literature review was undertaken, measures were identified, and numerous middle and upper-level executives met and discussed in order to determine the most effective approaches a business could implement across all operations in order to contain costs and manage without closure. Abstract:
Previous studies have shown that some negative emotions hinder estimation strategy execution. However, these studies rarely investigate the influence of negative emotions on the estimation strategy execution in individuals with trait anxiety. The present study examines the relationship between negative emotions and trait anxiety in individuals’ estimation strategy execution. Moreover, it looks into the influence of different emotion regulation strategies on their estimation strategy execution. In October 2010, 803 college students were evaluated using the Trait Anxiety Scale. From these participants, individuals with high and low trait anxiety were selected to complete the double-digit multiplication estimation task. The results showed that the estimation strategy’s execution speed in individuals with high trait anxiety was slower than those with low trait anxiety under negative emotions (t (113) = −2.269, p = 0.025, d = 0.427). Both expression inhibition and cognitive reappraisal could significantly improve the execution speed of the estimation strategy in low trait anxiety (p < 0.001). For individuals with high trait anxiety, cognitive reappraisal regulating negative emotions can promote the estimation strategy’s execution speed (p = 0.031). However, the use of expression inhibition has no significant effect on estimation strategy execution (p = 0.101). In summary, the present study revealed that different emotion regulation strategies moderated the arithmetic strategy execution of individuals with trait anxiety, and cognitive reappraisal had a better effect in individuals with high trait anxiety.

Abstract:
SYNOPSIS Since the early 2000s, expectations have increased for organizations to strengthen corporate governance with enterprise risk management (ERM) processes, with the accounting profession playing a major role in these efforts. The ultimate goal of an effective ERM process is to help boards and senior executives to manage risks in the context of strategy so that the organization is more likely to achieve its key objectives. We conduct semi-structured interviews of 15 ERM champions to provide insights about whether the ERM process is integrated with the strategic-planning and execution processes of the firm. We find that while the decision to launch ERM often is based on a desire for ERM to provide strategic value, the integration of ERM with strategy typically is limited. We then examine the ERM implementation process to identify possible ERM implementation practices limiting ERM's integration with strategy. We find that organizations' (1) culture and approach to preparing for ERM's launch, (2) ERM leadership structure, and (3) management of key risks appear to limit the intersection of ERM and strategy. Our summary of key findings highlights important considerations for boards of directors, executive management, and auditors as they assess the effectiveness of their risk oversight efforts in overseeing the strategic direction of the enterprise.

Abstract:
Summary Objectives: In order to implement clinical practice guidelines for the Department of Neonatology of the Heidelberg University Medical Center we developed a modular framework consisting of tools for authoring, browsing and executing encoded clinical practice guidelines (CPGs). Methods: Based upon a comprehensive analysis of literature, we set up requirements for guideline representation systems. Additionally, we analyzed further aspects such as the critical appraisal and known bridges and barriers for implementing CPGs. Thereafter we went through an evolutionary spiral model to develop a comprehensive ontology. Within this model each cycle focuses on a certain topic of management and implementation of CPGs. Results: In order to bring the resulting ontology into practice we developed a framework consisting of a tool for authoring, a server for web-based browsing, and an engine for the execution of certain elements of CPGs. Based upon this framework we encoded and implemented several CPGs in varying medical domains. Conclusions: This paper shall present a practical framework for both authors and implementers of CPGs. We have shown the fruitful combination of different knowledge representations such as narrative text and algorithm for implementing CPGs. Finally, we introduced a possible approach for the explicit adaptation of CPGs in order to provide institution-specific recommendations and to support sharing with other medical institutions.

Abstract:
Designing integrating systems for support, real-time monitoring, and executing of complex missions is challenging, since they often fail due to high levels of complexity and overwhelming volume of input data. Past attempts have resorted to “ad hoc” solutions, which face issues of being non-updatable, non-upgradable, and not applicable to similar missions, necessitating a complete redesign and reconstruction of the system. In the national defense and security sector, the impact of this reconstruction requirement leads to significant costs and delays. This study presents advanced methodologies for organizing large-scale datasets and handling complex operational procedures systematically, enhancing the capabilities of Decision Support Systems (DSSs). By introducing Complex Mission Support Systems (CMSSs), a novel SS sub-component, improved accuracy and effectiveness are achieved. The CMSS includes mission conceptualization, analysis, real-time monitoring, control dynamics, execution strategies, and simulations. These methods significantly aid engineers in developing DSSs that are highly user-friendly and operational, thanks to human-reasoning-centered design, increasing performance and efficiency. In summary, the systematic development of data cores that support complex processes creates an adaptable and adjustable framework in a wide range of diverse missions. This approach significantly enhances the overall sustainability and robustness of an integrated system.

Abstract:
Summary A tertiary alkaline/surfactant/polymer (ASP) pilot flood was implemented during 2010 in the Illinois basin of the US, and is continuing currently. With initial discovery of the Bridgeport sandstone formation in the early 1900s and more than 60 years of waterflooding, the pilot was designed to demonstrate that ASP flooding could produce sufficient quantities of incremental oil to sanction a commercial project. Laboratory experiments, including corefloods, were performed to determine the optimal chemical formulation for the pilot and to provide essential parameters for a numerical-simulation model. Polymer-injectivity tests, single well chemical tracer tests (SWCTTs), and an interwell-tracer-test (IWTT) program were all performed to prepare for and support a full interpretation of the pilot results. A field laboratory was run through the duration of the pilot to monitor the quality of the injection and production fluids, which turned out to be critical to the success of the pilot. We present the results and interpretation of the ASP pilot to date, the challenges faced during the project, and the lessons learned from the field perspective.

Abstract:
Summary Objective: The goal of this research is to provide a framework to enable the model-based development, simulation, and deployment of clinical information system prototypes with mechanisms that enforce security and privacy policies. Methods: We developed the Model-Integrated Clinical Information System (MICIS), a software toolkit that is based on model-based design techniques and highlevel modeling abstractions to represent complex clinical workflows in a service-oriented architecture paradigm. MICIS translates models into executable constructs, such as web service descriptions, business process execution language procedures, and deployment instructions. MICIS models are enriched with formal security and privacy specifications, which are enforced within the execution environment. Results: We successfully validated our design platform by modeling multiple clinical workflows and deploying them onto the execution platform. Conclusions: The model-based approach shows great promise for developing, simulating, and evolving clinical information systems with formal properties and policy restrictions.

What constitutes successful management of public enterprises? Executives of successful enterprises from 14 commonwealth countries exchanged their experiences and outlined strategies at two roundtable meetings under the auspices of the Commonwealth Secretariat, London. This paper is a summary of the views of the executives presented at the two meetings. In recent years, public enterprises in developed and developing countries have been criticized for not fulfilling the expectations placed on them. The case studies and the discussions at the two meetings, however, reveal that many public enterprises have been managed, successfully. The strategies outlined by the executives relate to managing the external environment, the enterprise-government interface, internal management, building enterprise culture, managing human resources, and the role of leadership.

Abstract:
The creation of transgenic livestock is a complex multistep procedure the successful execution of which demands a high level of skill and application. Useful animals have been generated by transfer of genes to zygotes by microinjection, but further extension to livestock breeding is severely limited by the present low efficiency and lack of precision in gene transfer procedures. There are major developments in alternative approaches to gene transfer and those based on embryonic stem (ES) cell lines show particular promise as a broadly adaptable means of allowing precise manipulation of specific genes within the animal genome. Rapid progress is being made in adapting ES cell technology to livestock species but as yet no one has demonstrated the totipotency of the putative cell lines so far generated. The demonstration of the feasibility of the chimaeric route for reinstating an ES cell genome into the germ line of the pig is a major advance. For other livestock breeds, particularly those with long generation times and bearing single young where the chimaeric route is much less useful, there are encouraging developments in nucleus transfer (cloning) technology which could provide practical solutions. Overall, there are now good reasons to be optimistic that transgenesis will eventually be available to all livestock breeders with the proviso that there are no further unanticipated phenomena such as the effect of tissue culture on imprinting, to be discovered to threaten the predictability of outcome of ES cell-derived pregnancies and further limit the potential usefulness of this futuristic technology to the livestock industry.

Abstract:
This study intends to investigate the application of the MapReduce (MR) framework based on serverless computing in big data processing. By combining the MapReduce model with serverless computing, efficient data processing is achieved. In this framework, the phases of Map task execution, reduce task execution, etc. are accomplished through stateless serverless functions, and data storage is realized with the help of cloud storage platforms (e.g., OSS). In this paper, the author introduces the basic theory of MR, the basic theory of serverless computing, describes the framework implementation process, and discusses the role of OSS in distributed computing. The outcomes of the trial indicate the average execution time of the framework for a WordCount task on 100 pieces of TOEFL English reading data is 6.81 seconds. The discussion analyzes the frameworks advantages (high elasticity, resource utilization) and disadvantages (cold start latency, unsuitable for long time tasks). Future research directions encompass performance optimization, long-time task processing, state management, etc. In summary, this study provides valuable insights for the practical application of serverless computing in big data processing.

Abstract:
‘DAMNATIO AD BESTIAS’ – KIND OF DEATH PENALTY OR MODE OF EXECUTION? Summary Damnatio ad bestias was one of the most amazing institutions of Roman criminal law. It was closely connected to gladiatorial games and this relation caused and influenced its dynamic and complex nature. The goal of this paper is to answer the question about the legal characteristic of damnatio ad bestias, whether it was a kind of death penalty or only a mode of its execution. On the basis of legal sources one can affirm that, at least in the roman jurists’ opinion, damnatio ad bestias was a poena, although sometimes it was omitted in the legal catalogs of penalties used in the field of Roman criminal law. This fact may be reasonably explained by the nature of this punishment – it depended on organization of the games with wild animals, so not everywhere there was appropriate infrastructure and necessary beasts. On the other hand, texts describing this penalty, mostly concerning martyrdom of Christians, may suggest that it was a mere mode of execution. But as it seems, these sources refer to the moment of infliction of damnatio ad bestias and other aggravated forms of death penalty, like burning alive and crucifixion, and to the governors’ jurisdiction. All these three penalties were interchangeable accordingly to the circumstances, which fact may create an idea that they were only forms of execution.
